First, I would like to say how friendly the ladies at the front were. Thank you for everything. I was accepted pretty fast to bring my baby skinny pig in for an eye infection that we have been battling since December. So for that I am grateful. However, I did not like the idea that I could not be in the room with my boy as he was being looked at. I am very nervous when it comes to vets as I haven't had the best experiences with them since moving to Vancouver. I have found that 100% of them, so far, have been all about the money and not the care of the animal and so, I would have preferred to have been in the room with my boy as the exam was happening. With the Doctor not being concerned on wearing a mask himself, the risk of COVID should not have been used in not allowing the owners in the room with their pets. Everything felt very rushed on the Doctors part. He was good in giving us eye drops but sadly my boy had already been on these and the infection had not cleared up, which I had explained but the Dr. was not concerned about that and was quick to say I would have to see someone else if these drops didn't work for the second time. I'm not convinced that I should bring him back at this time and may be looking into a second opinion.

Our darling dog Sydney had advanced kidney disease and was deteriorating quickly before our eyes. We knew the end was near and that we wanted to say goodbye to Sydney compassionately in our home on his favourite couch. Dr. Harry was so calm, emphathetic and understanding, quick and professional with the procedure so Sydney did not suffer, and allowed us the time the grieve and say goodbye. We cannot thank him enough for this beautiful gift of compassion and professionalism. It helped my children and I immeasurably. Highly recommend.

Very relaxed doctor not in a good way, doesn't look like he cares about your pets. Last time we came for an appointment he made us to wait for 30min, however he didn't have any clients.Yes, the examination is twice cheaper than other places, but the service.. have the feeling it's all about money and not the right examination and diagnostics. Don't think I'll go there again because no trust...

Julieanne Caley

Had an emergency with my kitty and the staff and vet were the most kind hearted people.. They reduced my price so it was very manageable and they showed her and myself so much kindness. I don't think I would go anywhere else, will recommend them to ALL my animal owning friends. I don't have a single bad thing to say about them.. If you want your pet and family member to be treated with respect and have that feeling of trust for a vet, please, I highly recommend here !

Dr Makkar come to our house to do a quality of life assessment of our 15 year labradoodle. He took her temp and listened to her heart and that was the extend of the examination which took approximately 20 minutes. For that he charged us $367.50 qualifying the cost for travelling to our home. The round trip from his practice to our home is 26Km. I would not recommend Dr Makkar for his services.

Be careful when going here since we were warned by an assistant working at this animal hospital to seek another vet.

Only money charge comes first. Aggressively selling medicines with higher price and Does not really care pets conditions. Good luck.... Harjeet! ㅠㅠ

Reasonably priced and willing to work with customers in a pinch. Dr. Harry is the best!

Would not recommend, continuously pushed additional testing ($1000K+) on multiple visits, that all came back negative. Dr Harry provided contradicting answers as to why these tests were needed, and had little interest in helping our dog.

Dr. Harry is an excellent doctor. He will tell you what he can do and give you full disclosure on the cost. The staff are great, empathetic, knowledgeable, kind. I highly recommend this business for your pet.

Very kind and caring vet! Highly recommend Dr.Harry.

I took my cat here for an irritated bladder because it was same day appointment. He suggested a urine test and we agreed to give my cat under the skin fluids so he would pee. Ive had this done before with another vet, and it works. When I got my cat home, his chest was shaved so close to the skin that it was bleeding. I dont know how roughly it was done, but it didn't look normal. I wouldnt bring him back here, especially for the fact that I cant go in the exam room to see how he is being handled.

Christopher Herbert

Polite staff with really reasonable prices!

Nick

Made a house call to bring my ailing cat's life to a close. Great service and "bedside manner". Would definitely recommend.

DO NOT BRING YOUR PET HERE. Extremely unsanitary and unsafe conditions, vet is abusive to animals.

Deborah Devereaux

Nope.. after a few visits decided this wasn't the right vet for my dog.

I wouldn't recommend this hospital to anyone. My 18 month old dog, Aru had bloody diarrhea for 2-3 days and I took him to Hemlock Animal Hospital because the vet hospital that I usually go to was not available at the moment. Dr. HARRY examined him while asking questions regarding bloody diarrhea. He mentioned a few possible reasons for hemorrhea and started write down tests that Aru needs to get. The tests included x-ray, blood test, urine test and pancreatitis. He also recommended subcutaneous IV hydration and an over night hospital stay. Even if I was freaking out and worried about my dog, I was suspicious and hegitatnt about all the recommendations he made. I mean, I understand blood test 'just in case' and iv hydration for his ongoing diarrhea but why pancratitis test or urine test? My dog was peeing OK and he was having bloody diarrhea, not bloody urine. Overnight stay was $250 and of course I did not feel necessary to leave my dog with them overnight. In doubt, things got decided so quickly, and I ended up paying $500 for nothing. Everything was within normal range, and I did not get Aru's diagnosis after all. I got antibiotics and low fat feed for Aru and he became better right away. After sampling Aru's blood and urine and while providing IV hydration to Aru, I became curious the purposes of the tests. Dr. Harry said urine test is for kidney an x-ray is for possible foreign substances in Aru's body. Why kidney test for hemorrhea? During the examination interview, I mentioned there is no possibility that Aru ate something unusual. Why x-ray? I can't stop thinking that I wasted money because the doctor could not narrow down without running every single test. Even though colitis was suspected, he wanted to run all the tests to make sure. If he was confident with his examination or if he considered customers financial burden, he would have come up with the most likely diagnosis and narrowed down to only necessary tests only if needed and minimize the cost. I keep thinking about his comments and still feel bitter about the whole visit.

Erica Espinosa

Nice Vets and kind receptionists. Nice environment and were upfront about prices for a low income person like me and making allowances to lower the cost with the best service.

Jesse Godwin

Vet doesn't examine dogs well, and doesnt explain the reasons for tests. I had multiple interactions where it was clear he was suggesting things only because it would make him money, not because it was in the best interest of my dog. Strongly recommend going elsewhere.

Rory St Clair

Shameful practices. How can you trust a vet that puts money before the wellbeing of animals? I adopted my cat from Hemlock animal hospital and we thought he was sick so we contacted the vet and he told us the kitten was fine and we shouldn’t worry. A week later, my girlfriend discovered worms coming out of his butt! We took him to the vet and demanded an explanation and he said that these things happen and that he wasn’t liable! He made us pay for the worm medication and the antibiotics, the cheap scoundrel. Legally, he’s right, he wasn’t liable, but that doesn’t make him less of a sleezebag. You could tell all he cared about was money. How sad that he’s still in business, he should retire with all the money he’s scammed.

They gave very good and prompt service, I called a few vets in vancouver before here, for a urinalysis for my cat who has a history of crystals, but they all wanted to charge me a consult fee which is a rip off anyways, they take 10 seconds to look in their ears and take their temperature, and that costs over $100 for, but Hemlock Hospital was very accommodating, they even waived a handling fee for me, thanks for everything, I will continue to come here in the future.

We adopted Cali from Hemlock Animal Hospital in November and were told that her spay/neuter procedure was included in the adoption fee we paid them when we picked her up. We dropped her off this morning for her procedure and when we picked her up they dropped $220 worth of additional fees on us that they did not discuss prior. They claimed they had told us on Friday about these fees when we made the appointment with them face to face, that however was a lie as the employee told us the entire procedure was free. We refused to pay as this was not part of the deal. The vet “Dr. Harry” (Harjeet Makkar) then came out and told us he would not give us our cat unless we pay them $220!!! I am livid and will never go back to this vet clinic. To top this off, every visit prior to this they have forgotten to charge us for something and end up charging us for what they missed on the next visit. Continuously misinforming us! On the bright side, Cali is doing well and napping on the couch ????

I take both my kitten, and my dog there after having adopted a kitten from the clinic. From regular to urgent appointments they have been very accommodating. Dr Harry takes the time to explain to you what is happening with your fur babies and him and his staff genuinely care. They also are really helpful in showing you the costs of everything beforehand.

Had originally given them 5 stars but reduced the rating due to finding out they had given my two rabbits the weakest pain medication after being spayed. In the following days my rabbits were biting each other, which was not normal, and acting crazy. One also had not pooped in almost three days but the vet let me know everything was ok. After Doing my own research and calling around to various animal hospitals they all said that was NOT normal and my animal needed critical care immediately. If I didn’t bring my rabbit to another vet yesterday, he wouldn’t be here today. His body started shutting down but after the care of the other hospital, managed to fight through it. We also received the proper pain medication and they are acting like the loving, happy rabbits they were before.

Dr. Harry and his fabulous staff have been our vets for years now. I can always depend on them to provide the utmost care and quality of services bar none and my Pomchi Teddy actually looks forward to going in and hanging out with them which I think says a lot about the kind of people that they are. I find Doctor Harry's price point on the services they offer very fair and he will go above and beyond, he even came to our house to put our older white Persian kitty to sleep, so that it would be less stressful for him, so you know there aren't that many veterinarians that kind and caring so 5 Paws Up

We adopted our Kitten, Figaro, here. We can't thank them enough for introducing us to our new little best friend. They've always taken great care of him and the pricing is reasonable. The staff is very friendly, and there always seems to be free parking available right out front. They're also conveniently located very close to Granville Island if you need something to do while your pet is in the clinic. Highly recommend!

I wouldn't recommend this hospital to anyone. This is the second time when we came to see him with our dog, and each time he gives only one solution - surgery... No proper exams, explanations

I've had very varied experiences here depending on who I am interacting with. I wanted to give a thought-out review after several interactions with the team, and not my kneejerk reaction. First, I've been to Hemlock about 4-5 times now. I believe two or three were procedural or diagnostic, and a few were picking things up. Dr. Harry seems very hurried. He may be an incredible vet. Maybe he has won some awards and is a genius. I don't know. Maybe he's average. But I do know that during the process, I felt like a dollar sign and not the owner of a pet. I do believe he had some genuine care for my cat, but even that wasn't always present. I had to learn about her terminal illness almost entirely on my own. When you learn your pet is dying, it's hard to accept that you'll be paying a ton of money to someone who barely takes a second to elaborate on what's happening. If I could review separately, I would not give Dr. Harry more than three stars. However, his staff has been pretty great. They've even seemed to pick up on my frustration with Dr. Harry and gone above and beyond to be kind, helpful, and compassionate. Even my most mediocre interactions with his team have been positive. At one point, I came in to pick up medication that was locked up, so I had to come back - but even that feels like the problem of a hurried clinic, and not the failure of the support team. I doubt there is a perfect animal clinic, and I think I got the outcome I needed. But be advised that it's suited for a pet owner who is ok with brisk bedside manner. Which I was not particularly prepared for after receiving devastating news. Thank you again to the team. You're the reason this review is a net positive on the clinic's score and not a net negative.

Watch out for this hospital! They will gouge you every chance they can! I recently had my dog put down and was charged close to $500 for the procedure and private cremation for 5lb dog! The Vet was late returning back to the clinic and the cost was never reviewed with me prior. I was so distraught with grief afterwards I didn't think to question it and just paid it with no questions. A couple days later i started to question such a high cost. I called around to 5 different hospitals in my area and the highest cost was around $300 and that was if the pet wasn't a current client and needing a consultation. My dog's passing wasn't as peaceful as i had anticipated. Once the sedation medication was given, she twitched and looked like she was gasping for air. The euthanasia med was given but then he said he needed to give more as she didn't pass quickly. So he brought in the bottle of med that was labelled euthanasia on it and drew more up. Very unprofessional! Firstly he couldn't calculate the correct amount dosage! She was a 5lb dog. The receptionist told me i could bring my case of dog food for refund. Then when I returned with the food, the vet told me no because it was special order food and my dog was only one that ate it. which i know for a fact is untrue. If pet owners are looking for a peaceful death at a reasonable cost, don't come here! I wished I had taken my dog else where. She deserved better.

Paid for a home visit for my cat as she gets very anxious and fiesty at vet clinics. I was able to book an appointment on short notice, and was glad some of the basics were covered promptly (e.g. temperature check) but will not book here again. The vet's two assistants/techs (they didn't introduce themselves) seemed quite inexperienced which certainly did not help the situation. The vet had to repeat simple instructions for them numerous times while they remained mostly silent. While I was completing paperwork, one assistant rushed to try to take my cat's temperature, which switched her initial curiosity to defensiveness, instead of giving her a moment to warm up. The visit was no less stressful than a clinic visit in the end. The vet's assessment and recommendations were not very clear. In fairness, this may have been in part due to assessment limitations from my cat's behaviour. I was told I "could" bring my cat in for extra investigations, but it was unclear if this was a strong recommendation/deemed necessary. I was left with a stressed out cat and lack of clarity.

I feel it is important to write a review on my experience with this clinic as I personally would never recommend this clinic to someone. (I am so happy I got a second opinion) I started going to Hemlock animal hospital because of the affordable drop-in rates to have my dog checked out. For basic check-ups, I thought this would be fine, but every time I would go into the clinic dr.harry would try to sell me on expensive dog food and medications that were not necessary for my dog, then roll his eyes when you were not interested. *FIRST RED FLAG* I decided to find a new vet after bringing my dog Hemlock Animal Hospital because of a injury my dog was dealing with in his neck. (pulled muscle). After mulitiple visits, blood tests, and unnecessary x-rays, Dr.Harry found nothing, He chalked this up to a neurological issue, saying we would ultrasounds and specialist to find out. Essentially making me feel as if there was nothing I could do to save my dog and they couldn't help. It only took 2 visits to another vet (2 road animal hospital) for them to rule out a neurological issue, they did not try to sell me anymore pain meds, in fact they took my dog OFF the meds. All my dog needed was 2 weeks of no activity and some manual stretching exercises to fix him up. ** No specialist, no ultrasounds, no extra medication, no more blood tests, JUST REST** I would NOT recommend Dr.Harry as a vet, I never once felt good about going to see him. His priority is your money over your dog, and although this clinic is cheaper than most, you get what you pay for.

Just took my dog in for a teeth scaling, she is older and I was a bit worried about the anesthesia. They put my mind at ease with all the knowledge and compassion the staff had. They loved and pampered my dog! Treated her like a princess and even brushed her during the surgery. I brought my cat in for vaccinations when I picked my dog up and Dr. Harry was very nice and works great with the animals. Amazing experience, no surprised with cost (completely transparent from the first call on what the cost would be) and my animals experienced minimal stress! Pricing was great! Everything was just great!

First of all, the doctor told us that we could not go to the examination room because of Covid, even though he did not even have a mask. Secondly, we had an appointment and we also had a confirmation email, but they said it was not available in our system, we've been waiting for more than 1 hour. We had vaccine appointment but they charged us for examination However, they did not even recognize the Infection of earwax , Not even asking if he has a particular problem or not? or maybe they asked my pet.

This is NOT a review for the OVERALL BUSINESS, however this is a DIRECT review for a particular employee, ROBIN/ROBYN. Ive only spoken to her once over the phone prior to this terrible customer experience. Robin/Robyn sounded like a nice nurse and was able to offer me some helpful insight to a question the first time Ive spoken to her (keep in mind I never met her in person). Not long ago I asked my mom to bring my dog in so Dr. Harry can give him a quick nail trim. I've done this before and it was so simple. The Korean gentleman who works there on Sundays is amazing and empathetic and knows how to talk to people with respect. So back to this lady, my mom brought my dog in and I had told her previously to give my information to the front desk and they will have all historical records of my visits. However my mom had called me right there and then saying this lady was EXTREMELY RUDE AND UNHELPFUL. Do people not understand that one small trivial action or unprofessional behavior not only is detrimental to your workplace development, but the livelihood of the business as well?! Wake up people, the internet is one of the leading tools for customers to be smarter and have the ability to choose a BETTER business with the reviews written. She is the one working on the other side of the desk, she as an employee should ask for the patient's information not asking them to REFILL the patient information sheet. I understand that people get busy, but still that is not the way to professionally handle a repeat customer/patient. Dr. Harry, if you read this you should really look into proper basic human communication training for this Robin/Robyn (and all staff to avoid this type of review) cause clearly her behavior has triggered this infuraiation in me to write this brutally honest review.

This vet is an absolute JOKE. They dont care about the well being of your pet what so ever and only care about how much money they're going to make off of you. Absolutely disgusting.

I went to apply for a job here several months ago and was shocked by this veterinary clinic. They did not require any prior experience or training to become a vet assistant and employees there actually warned me against working there when the vet was out of the room - stating that the vet was not skilled and was not kind to the animals - safe to say, I left pretty quickly and did not want the job!

It's a trap! The doctor wants you to pay for analysis before doing them!! I had to harass him to be refund when finally I noticed I don't need these analyses.

Hi all animal lovers. We wanted to adopt a kitten and found this place. When we asked about where did they get these kittens and their family history like if the parent cats had some sickness etc they stopped answering us and they suddenly said the kitten we wanted to adopt was given to someone else! They didn't answer our questions and when we went to store to talk with Dr to find out what happened the receptionist said the doctor is so busy but we could actually see he was just watching us behind the window. He appeared at the front desk as soon as we left the shop and just watched us leave. It is so disrespectful. They just needed to be clear and honest. Parent cats might have some sickness or not, totally normal but you should just tell the truth, don't try to scam people!!! Seeing other reviews about this place and other people's complaints about how their newly adopted cat was sick eventually, it is obvious to me that these guys are selling poor ill cats and just care about the $$$. and if you happen to ask about their history or origin before the adoption that cat you want may suddenly be taken by someone else! Totally untrustworthy and disgusting...

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. As I am writing this I am furious with how "Dr." Harjeet Makkar treated me and especially my dog. I tried to book a vet appointment at several other places and everywhere was booked up until Aug. I knew right away something was off when they could take me in "whenever." However, with my dog's ear infection, I knew I had to see a vet asap, so I booked an appointment at Hemlock Animal Hospital. First off, my dog is a rescue who just arrived from Shanghai, still extremely terrified of random people, etc. They took my dog in (I should have asked to go in with him but it all happened so quick).. a few minutes later "Dr." Harjeet Makkar comes out without introducing himself and annoyingly says "your dog needs to be sedated" without giving me any other option. I asked to go inside with him to comfort my dog and then we proceeded by putting a muzzle on him. "Dr." Harjeet Makkar seemed annoyed the entire time and was extremely rough with my poor dog. It was unnecessary to be rough especially because his assistant was holding him, he had a muzzle on, and I was there to comfort him. Everything there seemed dirty including the tools used on the animals, even the towel my dog was on had dirt and a bunch of fur on it from other animals. This place was honestly disgusting. ALL "Dr." Harjeet Makkar cared about was MONEY. Listing things we needed to purchase for our dog that would rack up our bill and not even give us any real reason. I could even feel that his assistant/receptionist was even embarrassed to be there working for him. As I was paying, I asked if that's how he treated all animals and she was so uncomfortable to say no.. all she said was "I think he's having a really bad day." and apologized several times for his behavior / actions. I do have to give props to his assistant as she was very calm, sympathetic and caring towards my dog. I don't know how I would have gotten through that appointment without her. I hope she finds a job somewhere else where they treat animals how they deserve to be treated. "Dr." Harjeet Makkar (Harry) LACKS empathy, compassion, patience, and a passion for helping animals. I truly felt like he wanted to hurt my dog more than help him. HOW DOES A PLACE LIKE THIS EXIST?! He had the audacity to come back out after and said I needed to come back in a week for a check-up. HA, as if I'm coming back! I hope this place shuts down. PLEASE if you are looking for a vet, go elsewhere. Do not take your pets here.

Maël Cocault

The Vet knows his stuff , doesn't try to rip you off and goes straight to the point .

My sister and I had an extremely unpleasant encounter with the doctor who was very unprofessional. We went to pick up our kitten for adoption and was told that the kitten had screened positive for leukemia. When my sister asked him questions of whether the test screens for antibodies or the actual virus, the doctor didn’t answer the question and insisted that we have to pay another 200 dollars on top of the 85 that we had already paid for the screening for a proper diagnosis. It seemed as though he knew that the kitten was already sick, but wanted us to pay for the extra tests anyways, eventhough we would not be taking the cat home or getting a refund. We will never be returning to this clinic with any of our pets and we will warn our friends and family about this cruel practice.

Christopher James

Never go to this vet! I adopted my cat from here and every experience with them since has been terrible. The worst of it went as follows. I was taking my cat in for a checkup and when we arrived there was a very upset couple in the waiting area. It was obvious that they had just lost their pet. When it was our turn to head to the opperating room they had a this couples dead dog strapped to a table, with his eyes still open and tongue hanging out. They gave us no warning or anything. Not only was it shocking and sad, it was unprofessional to not warn us or perhaps cover the poor guy up? The place was also straight up disgusting. There was an overflowing garbage can full of half eaten McDonalds beside the dog and trash all over the place. They also sent my cat home dripping wet after getting neutered with really some questionable stitching. I will never go back and truly think this place needs to be shut down for sanitary reasons.

Dr. Harry and staff are my the best in the city IMHO. My 12 year old dog has been to see many, but this place offers a more personal atmosphere than other places. Having gone through two emergency situations which required surgery, I can tell you that Dr. Harry is an excellent surgeon. From diagnosis to aftercare a good experience for me and my pup. She us always happy to go there.

Hemlock Animal Hospital is amazing at what they do with quite reasonable prices. The receptionists were very kind and the doctor was very patient to answer all of my questions before going ahead with my dog’s treatments. Definetly recommend others to bring their pets to this hospital.

Anastasia Polianskaia

Good price on visits but they dinged you on other things. Great staff though

Amira Farrell

Just beware of this place

Sarah May

All I can say about this clinic is you get what you pay for. The prices are probably some of the cheapest in the city, particularly for an examination. However the vet isn't thorough, he doesn't really seem to care about the animal, and frankly he's just plain rude. Any time I asked questions I was made to feel like a bad pet owner. When I had to hospitalize my senior cat for an unknown illness, it was terribly difficult to get updates from the clinic. I didn't feel confident they were even trying to feed him regularly or giving him his meds. Honestly you end up wasting your money because they don't explain things and don't make educated choices. And all the staff seem fresh out of high school and clueless. Would never go back.

Nancy Kuchta

Dr. Harry has done an amazing job with my pets. I took my little girl there, in an emergency situation, and he saved her life. I was so thankful. We also had a little dog, and when he started having some serious problems, we took him there, and unfortunately our little guy passed away, but not because of anything Dr. Harry did, because of incompetence and misdiagnosis from other vets we saw prior to. Dr. Harry performed 15 minutes of CPR on our little guy, and didn't charge us for this. He had tears in his eyes on this day as well, and he called to check up on how we were doing after this as well. My boyfriend noted that when he was there, even though Dr. Harry was busy with a lot of patients at the time, and super busy, everytime he came thru reception he stopped to talk to the cats that were in front for adoption, and to see how they were doing. That was very nice. Thanks so much,

Drew Barry More

There are some that collect and gather fees but, not here. The nurses Care for your pets right from entering the door and, the Doctors care. enough to call within a few days for check ups. The prices are a huge relief. This is where to bring in your for babies.

DO NOT ADOPT KITTEN I'm writing this review so people who want to rescue a cat won't end up having a sick kitten..it's very hard on the poor kitten and hard on the owner going back and forth to the vet. I found Hemlock Animal Hospital through Kijiji, they advertise kittens on this website. I've been searching Spca and Vokra but no luck for over a month so this was my last option. I went there to see the kittens and they told me I need to put $100 to hold if I like to get one of them and fill out an adoption form, if I'm eligible to get it, I will pay the rest of $175 and get the kitten next day. Since they had 3 of them, I took the form and went home to talk to my husband (bec. I read some bad reviews about adopting before I went there, didn't want to decide right away.) Oh, by the way, $275 had to be paid ONLY cash. Next day, I called them and said 'I'm only 20 min away and I will pay to hold the female kitten but I have one last question.' I asked 'where did you get the kittens and how is their health background?' Their staff didn't know and he said he has to ask the doctor who brought them here, I said 'ok, then can you ask and give me a callback, if everything is ok then I will come down'. He said 'Ok, Dr. will be in the office soon' and they never called back..an hour later I called back and another person said female kitten has adopted half an hour ago. How could this happen? What happened to the process? If somebody is really there to adopt, how come you forgot that I'm waiting for your call to come and get the kitten? After I explained what happened, I asked to speak to the doctor. This person also said he will call me back, of course, nobody did. We ended up going to their clinic to understand what is going on. Their staff who supposed to call back said he is 'very sorry' no other explanation, nothing else...Dr was inside, actually looking from the window mirror, didn't bother to come out and explain the situation... whatever we asked his staff, the only thing he kept saying was 'he is sorry' with an insolent, disrespectful and far from sincerity attitude. 20 min of just saying 'sorry' that's it..can you believe??..there is no explanation of why they never called, why they give the kitten! I fail to understand why Dr didn't come out and explain what happened and told us there are 2 other kittens to adopt? They don't even mention it..and that's all because I asked 'where did you get them..what is the health background?'...combining the yelp reviews from past about selling sick kittens and this rude and nonsense attitude the only thing I can think of is they're really selling sick kittens..probably they thought I'm somebody who had already had an awful experience and digging it that's why they never answered anything. Don't bring business to people who don't care animals or pet lovers...Horrible experience!

The day that my cat broke it's leg was the worst of my life. I phoned Dr. Harry as soon as it happened and he told me to come in right away. I showed up and they had pain medication ready as soon as I walked in and x-rays were done straight away. Monty had to stay at the hospital for several days until he was okay to have his leg surgically repaired. After 1 week, he was able to come home. 6 months later he has made a remarkable recovery. Dr. Harry and his team at Hemlock Animal Hospital are simply amazing. They took phenomenal care of Monty and took great care of me. They accommodated all of my questions, phone calls, and visits and I have always felt taken care of by them. I cannot recommend this place enough. Monty will not go to another Vet, Hemlock is his home. Thank you all!

BEWARE - we adopted two kittens - one just passed away. The vet failed to disclose their true age or health conditions. Both kittens turned out to be very ill and the vet won't return my calls.

Christian Johannsen

Made themselves available on short notice for euthanasia. Caring and compassionate. Thank you.

I have nothing but utter thanks and respect for the Team at Hemlock. Every single visit and examination has been nothing but positive for my cats and myself. Weve had two emergency situations now and on one occasion my cats life saved, so thanks to everyone involved, especially Dr Harry.

Dr. Harry is a very compassionate and caring vet. I had used the same vet for many many years and when she retired I didn't know where to go. I tried a couple of other vets and was very dissatisfied but when I went to Dr. Harry, his kindness, his thorough explanations and the fair fees won me over. I'll be going there from now on.

Absolute butcher shop. Had to take my dog in for an ultrasound and he was left with abrasions and bruises from the process. Ended up being charged $400 more than what was quoted. Will never bring my dog back, and if you love your pet you should stay far away.

Trevor scott

Very good clinic service is good and they have low prices

Josh Tam

They love animals . Never push unnecessary tests. Very reasonable. Very dedicated and thorough Vets.Love them and god bless them!

We bring our cat and dog in on a regular basis, the staff is very friendly toward us and our pets.. They are very reasonably priced compared to other places... They always try and go above and beyond, and always willing to provide a second opinion... Highly recommended

Susan Anderson

Bad service. He just wants your money and doesn't care about your pet

Natalie Dadyes

Excellent care given to my pom with trachea problem. They don't push for too many unnecessary diagnostics just to make money.m Highly recommended!

Dr Harry took care of my dog for nearly 14 yrs and put him down in the comfort of my home. Great vet, never overcharges and is kind.

Marzi Peck

The staff at this clinic are amongst the best I have seen in the veterinary field. We were new patients with a problem and they took us in immediately and treated us and our pup as if we were long-time clients. The information we were given was clear and concise, leaving no doubt whatsoever that we had made the right decision in taking her to them. Dr. Harry was informative, but I think the thing I appreciated the most was his honesty in explaining that certain tests did not HAVE to be done, but were our choice. We have complete trust and will be taking our little one back for a much-needed surgery within the month. She will be in good hands. Thank you so much!!

DON'T GO HERE. EXAM TABLE had a ratty towel with holes in it that I wondered if it had ever been washed. Had to ask for a clean towel! *Most concerning was he put the used needles on the exam table by a wriggly dogs feet where he just about stepped on them!! ???? It took 2 stabs with the needle to inject successfully. Assistant couldn't hold the dog properly secured.

We're so grateful that we chose to bring our dogs here! We've worked with both Dr. Harry, and several members of the staff. In November 2020, one of our dogs became seriously ill very quickly, and we were able to get into an emergency opening and the staff acted very quickly to ensure that we were able to get him to a specialty emergency hospital and the urgent care he needed. Our other dog is extremely nervous around strangers (especially vets) and the staff always goes above and beyond to make sure that his best interests are always first, and that the experience is as quick and calm as possible for him. They've also answered questions by phone or email (to avoid bringing him in), and take the time to explain complex medical jargon to the "parents." I wouldn't hesitate to bring my dogs to the doctors and staff here!

Kristina Heath

Terrific vet!! I am super particular about choosing anybody that cares for my dogs. Over 6 years, Dr. Harry and his team have exceeded my expectations with their kindness, understanding, compassion and devotion! Dr. Harry is an absolutely a lovely person and the best vet. The clinic is open 7 days a week and has $29 office visits. Take your pets here!

Amanda Irani

Extremely nice and friendly atmosphere. Front desk is always smiling and makes you feel at home. Doctors are professional and thorough. Very reasonable price wise and they don’t do unnecessary testing. Very caring doctors and staff! They explain everything up front and make sure you’re comfortable with the treatment plan. Everyone working there is friendly and professional. Highly recommended!!

jermome 69

I'm very surprised with all the negative reviews. Our dog has been treated here for several years with nothing but good experiences. Our dog is a scared guy unfortunately, but we are very lucky that Dr. Harry is willing and able to work with him.

Austin He

Doctors are ignorant and not helpful. My cat died there but they did not even give any emergency procedure. If you love your pets, please don’t take them to this vet!

Perry G

Very nice staff and the Doctor was great with my dog. Very reasonably priced services without any unnecessary charges. Will be going there from now on. Great place to visit for any pet medical needs. Dr. Harry is very knowledgeable and experienced. I'd highly recommend this place if you got a pet and want honest advise/consultation/medication/treatment.

Melissa Sherlock

I felt like the staff truly loved what they were doing. You can tell that they genuinely care for and love animals. I saw Dr. Harry and he was friendly, informative, and extremely nice. He addressed all my questions and concerns, and explained everything very well. I will definitely be back with my other pets and with my dog when needed. I also would absolutely recommend others to Hemlock vets!

LEO GUY

The best veterinarian I have ever come across. They TRULY CARE!!! I will never go to another. Customer for life!

Evan Graves

Bought a new kitten from Hemlock recently and had a very poor experience with Dr. Makkar. After insisting we needed to pay for further tests that are in fact not necessary for kittens this young he added a bag of kitten food without even asking. We later found out that the food he recommended is extremely unhealthy compared to other brands. Makkar is obviously being paid to recommend this brand and knowingly giving an inferior product to his clients. Extremely unethical practice, please for your animals sake, do not go here.

The entire staff at Hemlock Animal hospital are top notch. They've always been very good to me and my furry family. All of the doctors there, especially doctor Harry have always gone above and beyond for us and their care an attentiveness are unparalleled. I would recommend the Hemlock Animal Hospital to everyone.

Called the clinic for a simple inquiry. Very rude from the get go. I would not rely on them to provide services for my fur babies, especially with the latest review. if the clinic comes with a warning, take it to heart.

Mike Berry

Very kind staff, and Dr Harry seems to genuinely care for the well-being of the animals. After having terrible experiences with dishonest vets in the past, I was pleased to find that Dr Harry charged a reasonable price compared to other vets and did not try to push unnecessary services. Will recommend to friends and family.

Kristina Fletcher

Amazing visit, so glad and happy this is my Vet!! My dog Moose was chasing a stick and it punctured her tongue. She was a bloody mess. I was anxious and upset and worried. They calmed me down, treated me and my dog like gold and even called to check up. Very thorough service, at a very affordable price!

Nick Pashmak

I love that you are open later to accommodate work schedules. The staff is always available by phone and so friendly and helpful. The vet is very kind, kept me updated as he was assessing my cat, and asked me before doing any tests/treatment. Highly recommend!

Heather Gorodetsky

Hemlock Animal Hospital is a great animal hospital. They take their time when you go in, to listen to you and your concerns, and they treat your pets with respect. I should've switched animal hospitals to Hemlock long ago. I can't thank Dr. Harry enough for the kind and compassionate treatment he gave to not only our cat Buddy but us as well. Explaining everything as we went along and helping us make a difficult decision. You have totally chosen the right profession that you're in...

Tammy Harasyn

I was VERY impressed!! We saw Dr. Harry and I could not have been more pleased by his service and care for my chihuahua x mini dachshund Presly. Not only did he take the time to listen to me prior to making assessments, but took the time to assess my pups conditions without rushing. He made a thorough evaluation of my pup, wrote it all down (even though it was not pertaining to our visit) ! Dr. Harry did not push procedures on me, instead told me honestly what he would do in my situation. Previous vets I have been too always push ALL procedures even though they may not be necessary. He took his time, did not rush us out of the room .. and I trusted that he was giving me honest service. Also pricing was superb! My puppy got blood work done and Dr. H himself called me with the results the following day! Most vets get reception to call with the information. This small detail went a long way for me. If you want a vet that clearly cares about your pet and gives honest service. 100% go with Dr. H who will go above and beyond to take care of your baby. I will be recommending Dr. Harry to anyone who asks!! Thank you!! :) ***If there was an option of HALF stars, I would dock half a star toward the waiting room that left much to be desired. However this is likely a reflection of their main focus being on your fur baby, great pricing and service! Look past the sad waiting room, and focus on the service! They deserve the recognition - so 5 stars it is! A++

Alex Heard

We brought our new puppy to this clinic. Everyone was amazing to her. Great energy, very gentle and the doctor answered all our questions. I highly recommend this clinic :)

Nadya B

I'm only giving one star here because giving zero is not an option. I adopted 2 kittens from Hemlock Animal Hospital about 2 years ago. Upon bringing them home, they were super skinny, vomiting and having diarrhea. I brought them back in and the vet said "they probably have worms" and gave me some de-worming tablets. Not happy with the care, I brought them to another vet that found they had giardia, ring-worm, AND ear mites!! It was a long road to recovery, but they made it. If you read some other reviews on google about this place regarding kittens, many many people have had bad experiences with them adopting out sick kittens. They do not lead an ethical practice here. These poor kittens. It appears they are using them for profit. They also asked for e-mail transfer to a personal e-mail for the payment of the kittens which was $300 each. That is pretty sketchy. Don't trust this place!! If you adopt a kitten from here, IMMEDIATELY take it to another vet for a health check up.

A T

The Indian veterinarian here continued to take out medications unrelated to us . The worst veterinarian ever

Ryan Liu

We've been taking our pets here for many years after not being able to see a Vet in our previous clinic during an emergency for our husky/malamute. We were given an appointment within 20 minutes and have been bringing our furry family members here since. Dr. Harry is fantastic and very caring. He's super knowledgeable and doesn't push unnecessary treatments. From the friendly front line staff who seem to know everyone and their pets to the techs and the Vets. They all genuinely care for you and your pet!

michelle ritchie

We took our dog here because they were able to get him in the same day and their assessment fee was cheaper than some other animal hospitals... We wish we would have just spend the $50 more and taken him to a different vet. Our dog went in for a minor surgery we were never told if he was okay when he got out. I had to ask when approximately when he would be ready for pick up. I also had to ask for an approximate invoice prior to being ask to sign a form where the $$ was blank. I did not receive a phone call for over 5 hours. I ended up calling in and they seemed unorganized and had to double check who my dog was. We ended up being able to pick him up 4-5 hours after the estimated time. Whenever I called back with concerns or questions their response was just to bring our dog in... and get charged the fee for small questions and follow up appointments. When I did bring him in the Vets answers always seemed to be either give pain meds or perform more tests. No advice for home; when to come back, what signs and symptoms to look out for... etc. I am only giving 2 stars because the cracked toenail has since healed post surgery. I'm thinking there is a reason this vet always has appointments available same day. We have since been to another animal hospital where we paid the same amount and received several follow up phone calls with the Vet himself as well as the office managers who answered our questions, and gave advice free of charge.

Donaldson Tracy

I thank to all the caring staff and Dr Harry for all the great service over the years. They always handled my dog with kindness and care and always felt well informed to make the right decision. This clinic goes above and beyond I thank you for your compassion during and after my dogs final days. Highly recommended .

Jonathan Diaz

Best Clinic in Vancouver. They did emergency surgery on my dog and removed tumour. My dog who my previous vet was advising to put down us back to normal God bless them.

John Henry

We have been going here for two years now and I highly recommend Dr. Harry and his staff. They always take such good care of our pets and helped my dog with an emergency surgery last minute before Christmas. They diagnosed what was wrong and it it like he is a puppy again. We are so grateful for their service.

Mathew Scott

I adopted a kitten and am very happy as the kitten is very healthy .Great service, this medical issues were thoroughly explored and all my concerns were discussed. I was provided with a ton of info to help ensure my dog was being fed a proper balanced diet. Highly recommended!!

Katlynn Elmes

He did not acknowledge any of my concerns, was very rough with my small dog. No bedside manner at all.

Wu Jennifer

Always take great care of us and our pet. The doctor drove from home before work hours to tend to our dog and were very caring during the whole procedure. Highly recommended.

Lorene Potter

Jen, Cindy,Celine, Dr Harry and all the staff at Hemlock are awesome. Have been taking our dogs, cats, and rabbits there for years. When we finally had to put down our very old dogs they were so compassionate and caring and made such a difficult time just a little bit easier. During exams they always take the time to explain everything and answer all your questions, which is reassuring when your loved one is not well. I definitely can't recommend them enough

Johannes Theuns

Hemlock Animal Hospital, while not doing anything illegal, manages to bleed you dry. After telling us to come back at a specific date to get our new pet spayed, they inform us that we were too late, and that there would be extra costs. We informed them would be travelling with our pet, nevertheless they gave the various vaccinations before inserting the microchip, making them legally invalid and forcing us to get the shots re-done (more $$$). The "nurses" are kind and attentive but often give inconclusive advice, the "doctors" are aloof and buisness minded. If you care for your pet and don't want unforseen costs due to their mistakes and negligence, go elsewhere.

Christina Green

Was able to get an appointment with very short notice. In and out very quickly. Price of food and for services rendered was extremely fair. This is my new vet and I highly recommend them. Thank you Hemlock Animal Hospital!

Peter Cheung

All of the staff here are extremely caring and have always taken very good care of my animals. They always call to check up on my cats after they have had their annual vaccinations, or any type of medical procedure done. Jen is very friendly and I always enjoy hearing stories about her animals while I am paying my bill, or waiting to pick up my cats. I am guilty of calling to check up on one of my cats when she had dental work done, and Jen put my mind at ease by letting me know that everything had gone well and Luna was back to her normally loving self again. I have been coming to this vet since at least 2014 if not longer and I can't imagine going anywhere else now. Every experience I have had with Hemlock Animal Hospital has been a positive one. I know that when my cats get brought in, they receive amazing care from all of the staff.

Sydney Ambrosi

What an great experience. The person at reception was friendly, witty, kind and helpful. The veterinarian, Dr. Harry, was thorough, knowledgeable and very sensitive to the needs of both the dog and the humans. I have a large breed dog which can make extra attention necessary in assessment and diagnostics. All our questions were answered well, nothing 'pushed', and pricing was right reasonable with an estimate provided for upcoming treatment. Highly recommended for all pet lovers!!

Cathy C

I would avoid this place at all cost. Brought my dog here back in the winter due to a cut on her paw. Vet suggested a surgery to stitch it up. Being a worried parent I decided to go with the recommendation. However, after that my dogs paw took over a month to heal. I would have just opt for getting antibiotics cream to put on her paw but vet didn’t give me such recommendation. His only reco was to go with the surgery. My experience was similar to many people here - felt like the vet did unnecessary surgeries.

Aman K

Saved my dog after eating rat poison. Very helpful people and wonderful staff and doctor. Pure animal lovers. 100% recommend!

The skill and level of experience are what I was looking for Also compassion and gentle care of my much loved dogs was superb. Vet techs are super as well... OUTSTANDING!!

Dave Ryan

I recently took my dog there for a severe ear infection. The Vet was such a patient and understanding gentleman. He understood, that I was cost conscious, and worked with me the best he could. Definitely recommend Hemlock Animal Hospital to anyone who's looking for a veterinarian who is still genuinely passionate about caring for animals.

John hwen

I brought my doggie for spay procedure and all went great. Very informative at the moment of release and great after release follow up on my doggie status. Thanks!

Anicia Cruz

We love HAH! Our cats love them too! Great vets. Great staff. A fantastic team. We are very pleased with the care and affection they give our pets. Top notch.

Newton Jeff

I recommend this vet clinic to anyone and everyone with a pet. I have two dogs, a large breed with kidney failure and a small dog. The entire staff here are fantastic, the vets take so much time to ensure you understand what's going on with your animal and that you know how to care for them. Once, we received a call to check in on our dog who had just had surgery from Dr. Harry on his day off, when the place was closed. When the large dog was diagnosed with kidney disease, they made sure we were fully comfortable with giving him fluids and let us practice with saline solution. They give the best care of any veterinary clinic I've ever been to.

Phone yesterday and the receptionist was Incredibly condescending and rude. Serious attitude. Looking at all the reviews below seems like my initial call is a good indication of this clinic. Not a very inviting welcome for a possible new client. Dogged a bullet.

I brought in my 8 week kitten ,Voldemort, in after getting referred here. He was underweight, not eating at all and very lethargic. I was really worried about him and very confused as to what was going on as I had just adopted him the previous week. Once I got here, I was greeted by one of the VAs. She spoke to me calmly and seemed to sympathize with me about my concerns. After we talked about his history, he was brought into the back for a physical exam. Dr. Harry returned after just a few minutes and explained that he must of gotten something from the litter he was in before I got him. He was given antibiotics and hospitalized on IV fluids. A few days later and he was more active and eating on his own. I am blown away from the results and extremely happy from the results. He’s doing really well currently and I’ll definitely be back for future appointments.

Shannon Robinson

We cannot say enough good about this animal hospital. Dr. Harry and the team recently helped us through a grave illness with our dog and were so kind and comforting to us as she passed. They have always been fair in getting us in quickly, and in all aspects of billing. They have a very skilled and competent team of people who truly care. We have been with them for 5 years and would not hesitate to use them in the future.

Samantha gabriela

Very caring and supportive staff at this location. We brought her a three and a half pound chihuahua in for dental care and they were exceptional. We will return

Devon Waves

I'm new to the area, so was looking for a new vet. I have been to many Vets over the years. The friendly service at Hemlock clinic was hands down the best I've ever seen. Gabby the veterinary assistant (I think that was her name) was so friendly, polite and professional and so good with my dog Amigo. Best reception service I've ever had at a veterinary clinic. Will for sure be going back when needed.

Jordan Bourque

They genuinely care for your pet and provide options and clear explanations during difficult times of pet illness. Very reliable, sincere and friendly. Would highly recommend for your furry friends.

Cara Echino

If i could do no stars, I would. This vet is clearly only in the business for the money. Dr Harry is completely useless and offers ZERO solutions... just keeps saying to do more things that cost a lot more $$$, and STILL with no solutions. I have never met someone so uncommunicative, unknowledgeable and unwilling to find solutions. I will never go back, and I will make sure to tell all my dog owner friends to never go here as well. I feel very awful about bringing my dog here and worry about what happened to him while he was behind closed doors. I never thought i would ever have to worry about such a thing! Disgusting

Nav singh

Five stars !! All of the Vets and staff at Hemlock Animal Hospital are knowledgeable and friendly. I generally see Dr. Harry (love, love him!!) but I have seen others when he was not in. I have also referred other people who have worked with different Doctors and they have been pleased. Their prices are very reasonable and they genuinely care about the dogs. Other Animal Hospitals I've been to in the Vancouver area seem to only care about the $$. They do not take the time to treat each dog as an individual. I have never felt that at Hemlock Animal Hospital. They also accommodate special needs clients.

Laura Lima

Took my puppy Karma to get spayed with Dr Harry, and it was just the best service ever, she was up and running by the next day. Dr Harry was so helpful and thoughtful, listened to my concerns, treated her like a princess.

Tamara Lim

Hemlock Animal hospital gives unparalleled care to every pet they see. I have been in many times with both my dog and my cat and the staff are always so pleasant and kind, and have been able to resolve complicated health issues that other places overlooked. They also send follow-up and reminder emails to make sure everyone is doing well and that medication is never missed. I cannot say enough good things about this place, if you want top-notch care for your fur babies, trust the Hemlock Animal hospital.

Amelia Petit

very professional and caring vet

Eva Lee

First of all, I would never trust a doctor or a vet who puts money before their practice. My sister and I finalized our adoption with a kitty that we got extremely attached to because we spent over three hours in a span of 2 consecutive visits with it. Today, we were supposed to pick up the kitty at 4 o clock. We waited for 45 mins and the doctor finally came late and he told us that the cat had tested positive for the leukemia screening. He then went on to tell us to pay another 200 something dollars to send the results to a lab for a comprehensive exam. We had already agreed to pay 78+tax for the screening at this point, so I asked him what happens if the cat comes back positive. He then told us that we would not get any of our money and the cat will be put down. I was so shocked that he would say this infront of a child who had gotten attached to this kitty. After much thought, I asked him what would happen to the kitty if we decided to not take him, he then told us that he would wait for another person to come in and do the testing and if it screens positive, he would euthanize it. This is a definite red flag. If you know that the kitten has a high chance of leukemia and is in suffering as we speak, isn’t the ethical thing to do as a doctor is to test the kitten as soon as possible and then treat or stop the suffering and not wait for how many more days or weeks for someone else to pay for it? Knowing that the cat has leukemia, but not treating it or stopping the pain because he doesn’t want to pay for the test and would rather make more families pay for the screening numerous times when everyone knows that the test result will not change, is extremely cruel in all aspects. At the end, we weren’t able to adopt the kitten and the doctor refused to return the money for the testing. In retrospective, I feel like the doctor knew the whole time the kitten was indeed positive for leukemia, but still insisted we get the testing to collect the extra cash. we had initially gone in on Sunday and Monday to pick up the cat without getting the screening test (because they ran out of the testing kits), but he kept insisting that the testing can be done on Tuesday and we MUST get it. At the end, we were left with a broken heart and scammed of our money. The workers there besides the doctor were wonderful though. They couldn’t do anything because they are under supervision, but they gave us emotional support and got us through the tough time. All in all, I do not recommended the practice of this veterinarian and I hope the kitten the best.

Saiyed Khan

Extremely professional & experienced team at hemlock animal hospital. Thank you Dr. Harry for your great service!

Nancy Chahal

Such a positive experience. My daughter's cat came down with what we thought was a bit of an infection and Hemlock Animal Hospital were so attentive and responsive. They were kind, warm and communicated very well. Great team including vets and support team. Thank you so much!

Dariush Koorush

The prices were cheap compared to other clinics. The staff are very caring and professional.

Had a 9am appointment this morning. Its currently 9:20 and there is no one here. Drove over from North Van.

david liang

it was really good plus cheap prices

Henry Yuan

Awesome experience here! I was very worried about bringing my senior cat to the vet as he is pretty skittish around new people but he did amazingly here! The smaller exam room helped him feel safe and less exposed and the ladies who checked him did a fantastic job!! He stayed very calm the entire time even during the blood work. Dr. Harry was very kind and explained everything thoroughly. I really appreciate the amazing service from everyone at this clinic! You can tell they all really care about their clients and of course their pets! This is my go-to clinic from now on. :-)

Jessica Lall

I have been taking my pets to hemlock Animal hospitals for 5 years. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Very warm and welcoming. Prices are fair and service is great . Advised to go and try.

Chelsie McEachnie

Amazing place! They're so kind and compassionate with our fur babies. They take the time to explain all procedures, treatments and medications. Impeccable and outstanding service. Ty for your service!!!

Ron Murray

My dog I had a great experience from the start!!! As soon as we walked in, the woman in the front desk as very polite and very sweet. We filled out the paper work and immediately went to our room. I explained all the symptoms my dog was experiencing to the doctor and he almost knew immediately what it was. He explained everything very clearly and in detail, and gave me tips on how to make me dog feel better and look out for future signs. The doctor and nurse were very gentle with him. Really a great place to take your pet! Very genuine prices.I can tell Hemlock Animal hospital cares for their paw patients. THANK YOU!

Megan Mckay

I took my cat to hemlock a few weeks ago for vomiting and diarrhoea. They didn’t recommend unnecessary tests and prices were decent as well. My cat was hospitalised for a few days and got better. I will be returning back to this clinic and recommending it to friends as well!

Ginny Sims

Thank you to Dr.Harry and to the rest of the team. My dog has only received fantastic service from this clinic over the last 2 years. When my 14 year old dog child had to be put to sleep everyone was extremely kind, considerate and accommodating. There is a genuine care and love for animals which is obviously felt by the pets and their owners. "Dogs' lives are too short. Their only fault.”

Andrew Simpson

I have been a client of this vet clinic for many years. It is small and personable and the staff always remember who you are and treat you like a friend. They are very good with the animals and are gentle with the fearful ones. Love it there !!!

Jennifer Wang

If you love your pets, then take them to Hemlock Animal Hospital. Very compassionate care at affordable prices. Highly recommended.

Amazing staff and vet. Very knowledgeable and extremely patient and caring. Optimal experience for my pet but the staff didn't stop there. They were amazing with engaging my children and the price was super reasonable. Trust this vet.

I wish there were 10 stars. The folks at Hemlock Animal Hospital are amazing. Dr. Harry is a very caring animal doctor as are the others there. The doctors and staff are very compassionate. The kindness and professionalism is always evident. HIGHLY recommended!!

Simran Singh

Being open for every day of the week meant easier time to choose my clinic. Affordable and nice. Will recommend to my friends.

Mohammad K

The best Animal hospital in vancouver in my opinion. Really good customer experience. I felt like me and my pet mattered. I will be reffering my friends and family here.

Sarah Hval

Great doc, great staff, they were all super kind to us and my kitty and not pushing unnecessary things on us. They seem to actually care about the animals and their comfort. I've never had a good experience at a vet before today as they usually seem to be rushing to get through it and even act annoyed to do their jobs most of the time, this is not the case here, everyone here is truly wonderful 1000% will be back again and am recommending to anyone and everyone And a big huge thank you to all the staff here!

Amanda Smith

Super great with our pup! Caring staff and good atmosphere. No wait time and reasonably priced. Happy to find a good vet in the city!

hohgan spuklt

A warm and caring clinic. The Techs are considerate, knowledgeable animal lovers and the vets have excellent bedside manner. I highly recommend.

hi hoi

Caring and compassionate folks. Staff are well trained and give simply worded and to the point information. They provide all the options and do not pressure you when dealing with the health of your pet. I have an elderly dog and they have provided excellent care. My dog had to be admitted, they invite you and encourage you to visit and check in anytime.

Cindy Mann

The staff here are amazing! Honestly I’ve never felt so looked after - would definitely recommend coming here.

Was so happy and relieved to have found a vet that I am very comfortable with and could trust. The staff here are very friendly and professional. You can really tell they love animals. Not only do they have compassion in treating your pet, they also empathize with the owners as well. It is always a good feeling to know things will be okay with your pet.

Debbie Jubb

We got our beautiful kitten here. Staff were very nice. We weren't too impressed when we took our cat in to be spayed though. About an hour after we dropped her off, the doctor phones to say she should have blood tests and that they will take two days.??? If she needed preoperative tests , they should've been done sooner. I also brought our own cone for her to wear and get charged 16.00 for it. We're taking her back to our other vet now. If you adopt through here from kijiji make sure you have at least $900.00 .

Lin Valdez

Took more x-rays than I thought necessary, otherwise 5*.

Caro ro

Absolutely untrustworthy and seems they only want to make a quick $. Our 8 month old puppy had a bump that looked like an infection or giant "pimple" where the top of her cut had healed from her spay surgery. We brought her in to ask what was going on and Dr. Harry immediately told us she needed surgery (which costed us over $1000 on the spot). He said it could either be a tumour or an infection, either way it needed to be cut out. No tests or anything were done prior to suggesting the need for surgery. We didn't know what else to do since it seemed urgent and unfortunately we should have gotten another opinion but at the time he told us no matter what it had to be removed so we went ahead and trusted him. It was a same day surgery, now looking back, this doesn't seem to make any sense. How they could do this surgery on the same day without doing any tests? After the surgery they asked if they wanted to send in the test result to confirm if it was a tumour or not, which seemed pointless since we already got the procedure done. This seems really backwards and in hind sight doesn't make any sense. In the end, we are not coming back here again because of this experience. Would not recommend at all.

Randy Gladstone

A really great experience! Dr.Harry was so gentle and caring with my dog. My appointment was on time. I went in worried and found out that I had nothing to worry about. I also had his vaccinations updated while I was there. It was really affordable and I felt like we were in good hands with a caring and informative vet. Thank you!

Jeff Gladstone

I am very, extremely vigilant when it comes to choosing my Vet and the clinic. My best friend is a vet in Dublin and I used to work for her when she had a practice in Calgary. I am in love with my dog, Louis, who's very healthy. I randomly needed a vet in Jan/18 on a Sunday. I called Hemlock thinking they would be closed - no they weren't and they saw my dog right away. There was no way I was taking my dog to the Emerg Clinic because their charges are ridiculous. A short exam, blood taken, my dog was fine. The blood results were emailed to me in their entirety, not a summary, but the full blood panel results. My dog was fine. Then my dog was having mouth sensitivity. I went back to Hemlock in Feb/18 because Dr. Harry is amazing. As it turned out he needed a full teeth cleaning. I was expecting the charge to be well over $1K - not even close. Louis was under anesthetic, x-rays taken, two teeth removed, which couldn't be saved, more blood work and the little guy was fine. On top of the amazing price, I received another bonus for paying in cash. Today, I took poochie in to have his eye checked. Dr. Harry explained the procedure completely. I stayed in the exam room holding Louis. No problems. My dog was not uncomfortable or agitated. The examination was thorough and smooth. The price for the exam, eye drops, and a can of food was well below $100. Dr. Harry is thorough, a good vet - he will book a specialists if an issue is outside of his expertise or outside of the equipment he has on hand, Hemlock has an x-ray machine, full operating theatre and ultra-sound equipment. Dr. Harry can pretty much do anything. The exam rates are beyond reasonable. You don't need to pay $80-$120 for an exam fee. I was reading a couple of the reviews. If you feel your dog is being held too tightly or if you don't understand something that is happening, you have a voice. Dr. Harry will explain anything and everything to you. He's open to questions, the Vet Assistants are open to questions. I HIGHLY recommend Hemlock Animal Hospital. On top of the goodness at Hemlock, they have kittens for adoption. Check out the front Kitten room

They are very friendly. I asked about pet insurance for my puppy when I brought her to get her first shots. They gave me information I needed and a one month link to insurance for free trial.

Hemlock team are fantastic, always caring. There’s never any pressure to spend a ton of money like other vets I’ve been to in lower mainland. They will tell you what you need to do and will work with you to make sure you feel comfortable with everything that needs to happen and makes sure you understand and know your options. It’s great to have a vet you don’t feel dreadful calling because you know they are going to take care of your pets and the fees are very reasonable. Highly recommended!!!

Robert Ly

Kind and attentive staff members. Doctor Harry is friendly. Awesome place

0/10 . Would NOT recommend this place. Very poor care for my poodle. I brought her in for possible joint pains and the Vet without even assessing her, started listing pricing for treatments . I asked the Vet (Harjeet Makkar) if he would do a initial checkup to confirm what the issue was. He said to leave her with them. So I waited there in my vehicle and after about 10mins it seems he brought her in for only a minute and calls my phone telling me she needs surgery and it was gonna cost a few thousand dollars. I quickly walked inside to find my poodle back up front in her cage , at that point I asked the lady upfront what did they find wrong , the lady herself seemed confused and asked if I spoke to The Vet (Harjeet Makkar) . I said yes but was a little confused and needed clarification. I asked to speak with the Vet so the lady went back there and came back about 3minutes later to tell me that the Vet ( Harry Makkar ) had to leave . Frustrated I paid the fee for the assessment and went to another Vet not far from this one got another opinion and found out that my poodle had a bruised knee which the Vet recommend and gave me some medicine for . This place is a joke ........................ Pet owners DO NOT BRING YOUR pets HERE !!!!!!!!

The vet seemed irritated with my cats. My one cat was very afraid of Dr Harry. The Dr at one point grabbed the back fur of my cat to pick him up and put him on the table. My poor cat was so traumatised he was foaming at the mouth and his whole body was like a rock. I understand if my pet is stressed but I was disappointed that the vet wasn't more compassionate and gentle. They also kept forgetting to give me everything I had come there for. I had to keep repeating things they were missing. I was just very disappointed. I will go back to my old vet at cats only clinic. Sorry guys :s

The staff there are awesome, caring and put the animals needs 1st. Just what you should want in a vet hospital.

The Best Care for my pets so far! I have taken my animals to other area veterinary clinics over the last decade, but none compare to the consistently high standard of care and concern that I have experienced at the Hemlock Animal Hospital. The Dr's and the Veterinary Assistants have spent time researching alternative foods and medicines for my animals.. providing me with multiple choices when possible. They also understand that cost is a consideration and that most people don't have unlimited funds. If that isn't enough, they actually care about the animals and their quality of life. It is Very common to receive phone calls from the Drs, checking on my pets and the progress of any treatment and inquiring about their comfort. They do understand that many people regard their pets as family members and are respectful of that. I highly recommend this group of Caring Professionals.

Wow what great place and people to deal with. Dr Harry and his assistant are really polite and friendly. They helped out great with dogs travel documents.

Fantastic care for our dogs and cats for almost 2 full years now!! I have had all the routine stuff like nail trims and immunizations for all... Plus more tricky stuff like my dogs ear and eye surgeries. They've helped my cats eyes clear up. Soon they're even going to clean my other cat's teeth and pull one that's broken off. They've taken GREAT care of our animals!! The prices are reasonable, too. Thanks Hemlock Animal Hospital. We will gladly keep coming back!!

Kelly Lam

I adopted my cat from them 2 years ago. Took my cat in for a growth on her side. place was clean and friendly. the room was nice and warm and my scardy cat was comfortable enough to sit in the corner under the chair. The Vet was super nice and so sweet with my cat. checking her teeth and giving her a wellness check. I was told the growth was a wart and it is normal for cat as they age. was given a quote and was given time to think about it - surgery was same day and 2 growths were removed. she was bundled up nice and warm in the back and I took her home. she was happy and running around. stitches look amazing and the quote was very reasonable and affordable.

They have the best Staff and Vet doctor. I was very happy how they treated my rabbit Flopsy. 5 stars

Dr Harry is who I go to when I need full and straight answers, compassionate service, and a very high standard of competence and care. I have almost 20 years of experience with companion animal care and over those years I have seen many veterinarians, and Dr Harry is very high on my best-of list. I don't live anywhere near the clinic but I travel there because I know that my animals will receive excellent service, and I do not have to worry about what he isn't telling me or considering (because he explains everything in great detail and answers every possible question I can come up with, which I really appreciate!), what options we haven't explored (he gives me all the options), or whether I'm being overcharged. Veterinary care is not cheap but I know from experience that what I get from Dr Harry is top notch care at a fair price. Thanks Dr H (and everyone else at Hemlock AH!)!

Amy Lee

I have only had the best experience with all of the staff at Hemlock Animal Hospital. They have truly saved my little Bella a few times!!! She would not be alive today, if it weren't for the entire teams devotion and time!!! I will only ever come to this vet, they are AMAZING:-)

*DO NOT GO HERE* I made an appointment for 4:15pm. As I was pulling up about 5 mins early, I saw a man leaving the clinic. I went in and the receptionist said that the doctor was busy. I sat and waited. About 4:30pm, I asked how much longer he would be, she said that he left for an emergency. That's when I realized that the man I saw leaving was the Veteriniarian. I mentioned that it would have been a courteous to call to let me know about the delay, especially since no one was waiting and they weren't busy. She said that she didn't think that the Vet was going to take this long and that she called him to come back. Around 4:50pm the Vet finally returns. About 5 mins later, we go into the exam room. I ask him if he knew that our appointment was at 4:15pm and he said that they tried to call me to let me know that they would be delayed. I let him know that that wasn't true since his receptionist already said that they hadn't called. He apologized. He asks a couple of questions, takes my cat's temperature (no fever) and lets me know that he'll need blood work, urine test and x rays. Keep in mind, I came in thinking that my cat either has a UTI or crystals. Then, he asks me if I want antibiotics. In my opinion, he didn't fully assess or provide me options as an expert. I'm going to get a second opinion.

We have been going to Dr Harry for the last three years. He helped us with our two senior dogs with grace, compassion and practicality. He approached caring for the senior dogs with a transparent information process and gave us helpful guidance in decision making. When it was time to say goodbye to our Lab, Cisco, Dr Harry was kind enough to accommodate an in home euthanasia so that we could all have a more meaningful and relaxed experience. Now we have two young pups that visit the Hemlock Animal hospital and always get the best care from Dr Harry and his team. They have great long hours that make it easy to schedule an appointment and they always are friendly, helpful and keep us informed. I'm a nervous dog owner and when my chihuahua went in for teeth cleaning I was a wreck. The vet assistant called me to update me on the status of my dog almost ever hour that day, which helped calm me. He came out with sparkling teeth! The prices seem to be fair as well. We would highly recommend Hemlock Animal Hospital to anyone looking for a good vet.

We've taken our cats to the Hemlock Animal Hospital for all check ups, vaccinations, treatments and boarding for over 5 years. I sincerely do not believe you will find more compassionate or caring veterinarians anywhere else in BC let alone Vancouver. The care our cats have received has kept us coming back even after we moved out of the city, and will keep us coming back for years to come. From my wife and I, and Hank & Coco, a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Harry, Dr. Gurmeet and all the supporting staff.

Uneducated about over-vaccination. Please do your own research, this vet and their staff especially, and don’t just take whatever advice the vet gives you.

I've never felt compelled to write any Google review until my visit to Hemlock Animal Hospital. Dr. Harry and his wonderful staff treated my cat on very short notice when other local clinics were refusing new patients. Dr. Harry understood my cat was in distress on account of neck wound preventing him from eating. He offered to see him between patients when all other clinics directed me to emergency as my only option. Many thanks to Dr. Harry and knowledgeable staff at Hemlock Hospital. This is the clinic you can trust to care for your beloved pets. 5 stars. Highly recommended!

Best Animal Hospital in Vancouver. Not only was it the best experience ive had with a veterinarian but also incredibly affordable pricing, you wont find a combo like this anywhere else in Vancouver. Thanks Dr.Harry!

Shelly Edwards

Such a good place to get my animals checked at, the prices aren't too bad either! I highly recommend you to go here to get your animals checked as well.

Dr. Harry and Dr. Gurmeet are rock stars....have treated our dogs with the highest level of care for years....same goes for the staff. Our dogs are rescued and came with very obscure & complex health issues....They always get it right and fast, saving our furry family members any unnecessary suffering.... Not to mention Dr Harry's mad surgical skills.....the tumour removal surgery he performed on our German Shepherd gave her back an amazing quality of life for her last year's ......priceless You can use their services with the utmost of confidence .. I adopted a kitten from Hemlock Animal Hospital. in May,2016. The kitten(now a cat) is very friendly and healthy. I always take him to Hemlock AH for updating her shots and all other treatments. These guys are angels.

I'm very happy with this veterinary practice. The staff are kind, compassionate, and competent. The facility is clean and well organized. The front desk staff are great. I'm very happy that someone pointed me in their direction when I needed to find a new vet. When I've needed urgent appointments for a pet they've worked us in quickly and got to the bottom of the problem.

Krista Nielsen

very friendly staff. i went in with my cat who got in a fight, they told me he needed 650$ surgery that i opted out of, he healed just fine on his own with the antibiotics.

Nomo Akisawa: I had such an awful experience at this place. I brought my dog to the hospital. She wasn’t feeling well and had been puking the night before. The doctor looked at her for 2 seconds (lifted her tail up) and told me he knew what it was (after his many many years of experience). He said it was not good at all and she needed to go into surgery. He told me the price of the X-ray and blood work. I told him I wasn’t comfortable with paying that amount of money with what he just told me by just looking at her butt for two seconds. He then said “ok if you don’t want to pay the price of the X-ray and blood work let’s just go straight to surgery”. Then he asks “how much do you want to pay?”. I was floored. It’s not about the price I want to pay. It’s about me wanting to make sure my dog is getting to correct diagnosis and in the best hands. I am not putting my dog straight into surgery when you don’t even 100% know what it is. As I was walking out he says to me “you come back to me when you realize that we are the cheapest place out there”. I do not recommend going here for your pet. The vet does not care and all he cares about is how much money he can get. Sure enough I went somewhere else and found a vet that actually cared about my dog and in much better hands.

Michelle Edmundson

While I see mixed reviews here I just want to say that all Vets seem "rushed" because there are so many pets that need help. Especially when you're in for shots but a pet in the back needs life saving surgery. Take it all with a grain of salt and remember that although your pet is the most important to you, there may be another one in need too. They are extremely fair priced also, which means more people going to see them. Dr. Harry is a wonderful vet and person. He was there for me and so supportive when my dog was dealing with, and ultimately passed from Cancer. The whole staff really made the experience (though horrible) a bit better. Dr. Harry did a house call to euthanize her and he didn't rush me to say goodbye or make me feel anything but supported in the decision. I had multiple surgeries for her and my other dog goes to see him as well. Even though I now live in Poco I will still drive out to Vancouver to see him as I trust him with my pets. Sometimes it is the little things of just standing by someone in their time of need that makes an amazing vet. I found this here.

Gary Hagan

I have owned a lot of cats in my life and have been to several veterinary hospitals during those many years. Sometimes for a quick check up, sometimes for cancer treatment, and sadly sometimes for euthanasia. I moved to the neighbourhod and found Dr. Harry, his wife and the staff at Hemlock... and they were all a blessing. The care is considerate and compassionate, the hours are great and the prices are the best I have found in 20 years. Of course a little knowledge goes a long way in avoiding unnecessary expenses, (ie: x-rays first, follow up test afterwards) and taking the time to go through all the options with the doctor. I would and have recommended Hemlock to my friends and we are all very pleased with the care, the service and the quality there.

Victor Bautista

We have never been let down by this clinic - incredibly trustworthy and attentive. From the reception staff, to the animal assistants, to the vet techs, to the veterinarians, everyone is kind and helpful. We have had our dog's shots updated here, had yearly examinations and come in twice for emergencies Every time we left with piece of mind knowing our pup was in good hands. We have had excellent experiences with Dr. Harry and Dr Gurmeet.

Moe Sharif

From my experience this is the best vets in Vancouver. I think you should go to Hemlock Animal Hospital in Vancouver because they provide outstanding vet services. I have never been disappointed with their customer service. I refer a lot of people to this location, definitely well deserved 5 star rating for a Veterinarian in Vancouver.

TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE DO NOT GO HERE EVEN IN AN EMERGENTCY After booking an emergency appointment we arrived on time and proceeded to wait for 45 minutes with no explanation or apology for the delay. When the vet arrived he almost seamed scared of our dog( a 10lb Chihuahua) and then proceeded to perform the most unprofessional exam I have ever seen. Our dog loves everyone and was instantly scared by his lack of any empathy or bed side manner. After asking us the same questions repeatedly he check her ears causing her huge discomfort and making her yell several times. After then telling us there was no blockage he performed the same exam again causing her more pain. When he then went to carry out the same ear exam for the third time I had to intervene and suggest that "if there was no blockage and no visible swelling why would he do the same exam again knowing it was hurting her?" After a quick awkward check of her vitals he suggested giving her a pain injection which filled us both with terror at the thought of him with a needle and confusion as she was only in pain during the ear exam. On asking for ear drops or something of that nature he suggested several options and opting for one we found out it was 55 dollars and he also requested a follow up consultantion in a week. We of course will NOT being doing that. Quite simply the most unprofessional animal health care professional I have ever encountered. I can not comprehend how a gentleman of such poor calibre is able to operate. He is a predator , preying on the love that pet owners have and exploiting this to continuing working in such an appalling manner. DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU LOVE YOUR PETS

Recently my dog went in for surgery and I was terrified. Dr. Harry was the veterinarian that did the surgery. I have a very small light weight petite dog and I have been to several places to get quotes on teeth removal. After, a lot of thought I decided it was the best decision for my pet. I only felt confident with this Dr. He kept it real with me and was understanding to my dogs needs. I am extremely impressed with the whole procedure and outcome. My little dog seems like a whole new dog since the surgery. He is a very good Veterinarian and he will now be my dogs doctor. If I could give more then five stars I would! Thank Dr. Harry!

Zahra Askary

Would not recommend. Didn’t seem like the vet knew what was going on...then ran a test without authorizing it and prescribed a 40 dollar ointment that is Neosporin..

Jenny Hansen

Seriously tho kindest Veterinarian I have ever dealt with. When my cat was ill, he spent a few nights there and the Dr. kept me updated the whole time. He was gentle with her and very compassionate. I have been to a handful of Veterinarian offices in town over the years with my pets and this one is hands down the best! I would recommend 110% Also, the staff are very friendly and polite. Helpful and also very kind to the pets.

Wendi Ma

Purchased Hill's Prescription Diet Canned food for my dog from the clinic, and my dog had allergic reaction. They would not refund us the money fully, though on the food it clearly states satisfaction guarantee, full refund if not satisfied. Their reason of no full refund is also very iffy. Every time we call, they give us different reason. They first told us it's because of COVID, and now they are telling us that they have a company policy and can't give us full-refund. They should have let us known before suggesting us to order it with them.

Karen Billard

Dr.Harry is so wonderful with our fur baby!

Michelle Charles

A perfect blend of professionalism and compassion. The quality of care is tops and the staff are really great. The vets have great reputations for a reason, my dogs love Dr Harry and my pup even forgives him the needles after a treat. I really appreciate that this clinic takes time to clearly go over all costs and the reasons why... giving the best options for my pets. The procedures are clearly explained so I can make conscious and informed decisions. I really appreciate that. I feel good understanding what is happening and how best to treat it. We are lucky to have this vet hospital in Vancouver. I highly recommend this vet hospital

Hemlock Animal Hospital Dr. Harjeet Makkar (AKA Dr. Harry) We have been going to Hemlock Animal Hospital for approximately 6 years with our two beautiful golden doodles Tico and Sunny. We have always been impressed with the great care our dogs have received at this veterinary clinic compared to others we’ve visited. As soon as we arrive we are greeted by one of the friendly veterinary assistants. Shortly after when Dr. Harjeet Makkar arrives (aka Dr. Harry), his relaxed demeanor puts our dogs at ease. He always approaches our dogs with kindness and respect and they have come to trust him. Recently Tico acquired a very bad prostate infection that was quickly diagnosed by Dr. Harry and as a result, Tico is back to his usual happy self again. As a skillful surgeon, Dr. Harry repaired Tico's tail from an injury. He was up front with us and told us that it would be a difficult surgery and that he may lose his tail. Dr. Harry skillfully worked on his tail and saved the whole tail. We were so pleased to see him afterwards…tail intact! Sunny had a psychological issue that caused her to gnaw on her legs and tear the skin open. Dr. Harry also repaired these injuries perfectly but more importantly, he knew that this was a psychological issue. This was instrumental to us as it helped us deal with her recovery! He has spayed and neutered both our little ones with no post-operative complications. Dr. Harry is an experienced veterinarian/surgeon. He is not over-reactive with his diagnoses and his prices are very reasonable. Dr. Harry always has the best interest of our little ones in mind. Often times, while we are in the waiting room, we meet other clients that bring their pets to see Dr. Harry. We always hear good things from them as well. We would not hesitate to recommend his veterinary clinic to anyone looking for a great veterinarian for their pet. Tony, Karin, Tico and Sunny

Jordan Scherzer

A great Vet. Very knowledgeable, caring and compassionate. Reasonable as they don't try to oversell extra stuff that you don't need. Been a customer for closing in on 5 years. Would not hesitate to recommend this get to anyone.

If you care about your pet even slightly, I’d stay away from this place. The “vet” Dr. Harry was extremely dismissive and defensive when I simply raised questions on the well-being of my dog. He was also not wearing a mask and had a strong unpleasant BO. When asked, the “vet” was clearly unaware of my dog’s weight, her dental health or her ear condition after the “physical checkup” that took them less than 2 minutes behind closed door. When I think it couldn’t get anymore worse, the male vet tech was unnecessarily rude and unprofessional - as I quote word to word “ya I know what I’m doing”. He was also extremely rough to my dog, when was then a puppy - she was terrified and was extremely calm; I don’t see the necessity of being rough when an animal is clearly cooperating. I was in the exam room and the condition was extremely disgusting, which is clearly an UNDERSTATEMENT. It resembles me of a meat market in Thailand! The female receptionist was helpful though and she seemed genuinely embarrassed for them and I don’t blame her, I would be too if I was working there. As any sane person would, we switched to a new vet - whom my sweet Lexi now adores! I am more than happy to pay triple of the exam fee to see an actual COMPETENT and qualified vet. Oh and the best part - they withheld my girl’s Lexi’s medical record by not sending them over to my new vet for TWO weeks. My new vet office emailed and called numerous times and when I called they denied ever receiving anything and raised his voice at me, “ give me their email now”. I ended up having to call them myself with the “motivation” of pursuing legal action, and there - they sent it within the next half an hour ????

Jett Mannings

Drove my sister and her cat here. She had a terrible experience, doctor was rude, cat was given vaccines it didn't need (ones for outdoor cats, when it is a fully indoor cat etc.) Cat was terrified afterwards, wouldn't come out of crate. Her roommate and her mom took other cat in and heard banging noises in the back when they took the cat back.
