Warm, honest, and informative. A wonderful vet with wonderful people, highly recommended.
Highly recommended. Everyone is kind and caring, and the vets have always been very intelligent and upfront with prices.
Such caring, amazing, thoughtful and informative people. Always go above and beyond to ensure you understand the processes, expected results and truly care for your furry loved ones. They even call to check up on how you and your pet are doing post visit. Love them.
Took my cat today for a second opinion today, which confirmed my suspicions that a previous diagnosis from a different doctor was inaccurate. It was a nice touch that as we can not go into the clinic right now, Dr. Yuen met us outside in person for a quick pre-appointment chat. Her assessment was thorough and she spent a generous amount of time on the phone with me following the appointment. The techs were also lovely and everything was smooth and professional. With other pets and different vets, I've experienced what felt like all sorts of upselling all sorts of unnecessary products and treatments. Today this was not my experience and I felt like there was genuine and honest care. The only thing I left with today was a receipt for the appointment and a calm cat. Looks like we're here to stay and I look forward to our next visit. Thanks to Dr. Yuen and the Amherst Veterinary Hospital.
The best vet with amazing doctors and staff. In house specialists keep costs way down
Lovely people, really care for pets!
A very good vet. Lots of attention, both for the pets and the owners with lots of information. Good followup too.
Kind, compassionate vets. Everyone on staff is really lovely and responsible. I'm a second generation client
Dr. Safonia? Probably spelling that wrong, don't know what I would do without her. We trust her totally, and a great staff
Everyone is professional and loving at Amherst. I highly recommend Nina Speyer - she's amazing!
Great staff and vets know what they're doing
The girls at the front are super friendly and the Veterinarians are knowledgeable and caring. I've recommended them to 2 of my clients for their dogs dental work and both of them said they quoted them a quarter of the cost of what other vets had told them. I love taking my dog here :)
I called and asked if they had a specific hypoallergenic dog food in stock. They told me yes but that it needed a vet's recommendation so could I ask our current vet to call in. They also told me they would put the food aside for me. After my vet called in I checked to buy the food later that day and they told me they would only sell it to their current clients after all. I understand if that's a policy but they should be forward about it because it doesn't seem very professional to waste everyone's time.
Amazing vets. I feel fully taken care of knowing they are in the best hands.
Great and caring staff, we're ver supportive when our golden passed away and they genuinely love animals
Took "The Minkers" in for an eye issue and Dr. Kong was the perfect vet for my sweet, mellow kitty. We ended up having to get some tests done but they were done efficiently and with very little stress to Minky. In addition to being impressed by her calm and gentle manner with my cat, I appreciated Dr. Kong's clear explanation of what needed to be investigated, why, and what the potential results might mean for my senior cat's quality of life going forward. I could not have asked for a better first experience with Amherst.
We love Amherst Vet Hospital, and so does our dog Pot Roast. In particular, we love Dr. Jill Meecher, who always takes good care of us and doesn't show any bias towards our bully breed English Bull Terrier. Our dog loves her and despite having some SIGNIFICANT issues early on (was bitten by another dog), where he had to be at the vet about three times a week for three weeks (having his face cut open to release infection), he still is happy to go in there and visit the friendly staff as well as Jill. As for people who think Amhert is expensive, we are in Vancouver, which is by far the most expensive place I've ever had a dog! But that being said, I did a lot of research before bringing my puppy anywhere and Amherst has great prices. I often find I can get in with short notice and the staff always make a fuss over my dog. They are compassionate and caring when I've been worried about Pot Roast and always follow up to see how he's doing. Dr. Meecher has even called after hours, just because she was concerned. We've also found that they haven't tried to up-sell us by making us feel guilty. Dr. Meecher is honest when she thinks we should try a cheaper method first and progress from there. So far, we haven't paid for anything that wasn't necessary. Overall, we bring our dog back again and again because we know he receives great care there.
A medical professional at the local BC SPCA Vancouver Animal Hospital discovered liver dysfunction in our 6 month old puppy and suggested to do ultrasound scan, biopsy and later maybe surgery. First we did ultrasound scan. Results were negative and everything was normal, which lead to the suggestion of a biopsy. Frightened by the sound of another stressful event on a small puppy we were hoping for another option such as a diet, however, the doctor rejected any other possibility and suggested biopsy because blood test - bile acid was upnormal (like she said) and printed out an estimate for the biopsy more expensive then before. This did not appeal to us and we decided to get a second opinion from another Vet at the Amherst Veterinary Hospital. The medical professional's at Amherst saw the results from BC SPCA Vancouver Animal Hospital and also recommended make a biopsy. Again we asked for special diete. The doctor at Amherst accomodated to our needs and guided us through a healthy diet that could prevent the need of a biopsy. Two months later our puppy blood (bile acid test) results showed up normal and there was no need for any original biopsy.
Our neighbour hood vet. We mainly go here because of the great Doctor Kong. We had a Westie with renal disease and had many difficult visits over a year span with Dr Kong who was always very helpful, caring and compassionate. It really made a difference and we are so grateful. The staff is friendly and helpful. The only con is that they are on the expensive side, but thankfully we can afford it and still have positive experiences. Def recommend it .
Exceptional and caring staff.
The nicest people. Efficient courteous competent. I don't like going to the vet almost as much as my dog, but when we have to go this is a very fine option.
Treats you pet like family
This vet hospital is so great. All the guys there are helpful, nice, friendly and professional. That environment is also perfect. I can see that they really love dogs. They deserve five-star!
The staff at Amherst are kind and caring, from the front of house staff to those behind the scenes. This is just as you would expect from a veterinary team. We're so happy that we chose Amherst! I disagree with another reviewer that Amherst is expensive. I think Amherst's prices are very reasonable! Their team's priority is the welfare of your pet, as it should be yours as an owner - it certainly is mine. If your priority is your wallet, you shouldn't own a pet. Thank you to the Amherst team!
thank you so much for saving my dog. I moved animal hospital for my dog today to here. they saved my dogs life. I been goinf to university vet next to ubc. they are over priced and almost killed my dog for wrong result. I would recommend this place on alma. they saved my dog. they are very smart and fast and charges are reasonable too. it is very important to find a good vet. and this is the right place.
Door was locked ...lady came to open eventually..tried to buy cat food ...she tried to talk me into a check up for my cat. Because I asked for a specific type of food. Yet I buy it anywhere else. She claims I needed a prescriptions to get it. So uninviting...goes with the times...you'd think people would try and promote a friendlier environment especially dealing with people....it was like I was bothering her....I think it was because she had to get off her tookus
Doesn’t even take in new customers don’t bother asking.
I've been to a great vet on the V island so measuring to amherst i think the vets here are pretty competent, maybe a bit on the cool side .(towards your pet) however, I'm not sure about the front staff..? I did get a follow up call from the vet the next day about my pups recovery from an eye infection which i totally appreciated. Prices for services and meds seem fair though i cant say ive been to other vets in the van area. There is free parking here in the small corner mall.
I have been taking my cat to Amherst for a few years. As an indoor cat, she has required very little care. However, that recently changed and she has a very rare condition - incontinence. The doctors have gone above & beyond trying to find answers and suggested treatments. They have been in touch with me regularly and have spent lots of time researching her condition. We haven't got it figured out quite yet, but I feel that they are doing absolutely everything in their power to help me find answers and treat my furry friend. Also, every single person that works at the Clinic is without fail cheery, friendly and helpful - on the phone and in person. If you are looking for a vet that isn't about dollars & cents, that truly cares about your animal, pick this one!!

Fantastic staff and services for our pets. They are caring and very helpful.
Always great service, kind vets and vet techs. Happy with price of vaccines too.
Pricey but good. Will go back
Reputable and reliable.
The staff and doctors at Amherst truly went above and beyond in caring for our kitty throughout her long life. They are friendly, kind, incredibly knowledgeable and skilled. In particular, Dr. Beneke was exceptionally empathetic and thorough in helping us to manage care in late stage kidney disease. Our family will always be grateful to everyone at this office for the kindness and quality of care they delivered.
I’ve had great experiences with Dr Jill and the rest of the staff who I’ve met, they’ve taken really good care of my dog. I was looking for a highly rated vet in my area and I wasn’t disappointed.
Great Veterinary hospital. We had a bad experience at another clinic in point grey and ended up coming here after a recommendation. Above and beyond levels of care by doctors and staff who you can truly tell care about animals. Would not hesitate to recommend this place to anyone to take their pets.
love this vet clinic they are the best!
The staff at Amherst are amazing. My dear 19 year cat had come to the end of her life and I had to make a very difficult decision. I selected home euthanasia and needed to find a vet in Vancouver that would accommodate my request..... I came across Amherst Veterinary Hospital. The compassion and kindness that was extended towards me and my dear little Kiah far exceeded my expectations. They brought a gentle and caring attitude into my home. I thank them from the bottom of my heart. Shortly thereafter I received a personally hand written card from these two women expressing their condolences. Nothing else to say....but thank you.
Our family has taken all our pets to Amherst, cats and dogs, from 1990 until recently when we moved to Victoria. It is no exaggeration to say that the staff at Amherst, Drs. Cumberbirch and Speyer and their team, are one of the biggest losses in this moving transition. They always provided our animals with the most attentive care while also seeing to our needs as pet owners concerned about our dear animals. Over the years they provided thoughtful discussions that left us understanding important choices about treatment as well as the assurance that they would back us up in our decisions. Four dogs and two cats later I can say that never once did I experience anything but excellent and competent care from the beginning of our animals' lives to their last moments with us. Thank you Amherst!
Amazing service and small clinic feel
You do not realize how important having proper veterinary care is until there is an emergency. Emergency care was provided elsewhere and took an unexpected turn. Dr. Kong was professional and respectful with questions from myself and our kids. She was able to turn things around in 48 hours and I am happy to report our dog is great. Our family highly recommends Dr. Kong!! Dr. Yuen and the other staff are also amazing. Thank you to you all.
Wonderful vets and staff!
Love the vets and front desk staff:)
Very professional staff and doctors. We feel our baby is in good hands.
My dog went through a very difficult period of treatment at this clinic. At first my dog had a small cut and I took him to the clinic for treatment, but the doctors here didn't have any surgical treatment, they just prescribed anti-inflammatory drugs for two weeks and told us to clean the wound at home to see if we could heal on our own. The ineffective treatment alone cost more than $600. Of course, after two weeks the dog's wounds had not improved and he was still vomiting from the antibiotics. Then the clinic had our dog undergo an operation that cost thousands of dollars. Will never come back to this clinic.Very poor service and unprofessional doctors. My dog is depressed because of the ugly stitched wounds on his body.
All staff is incredibly nice and helpful. Will trust them with all my animals. Highly recommend anyone on the team.
Caring and kind
Wonderfully available and supportive! Lots of support over the phone and in-person and I have been so grateful.
Great doctors. Not pushy. Excellent care
