I had Jeanette Roberts, DVM out to my house on Oct the 4th to euthanize one of our two favorite cats, a Siamese Cat, Serene Sky. I called Dr. Roberts early that morning and she replied that it would be in the afternoon before she could come if that was ok. Dr. Roberts stayed in contact with me throughout the day and came that afternoon. Dr. Roberts was total compassion as she explained the procedure and what would happen as Serene Sky crossed the “rainbow bridge”. I thank Dr. Roberts for her services and again for her compassion. We chose to have Serene’s body cremated and Dr. Roberts facilitated the cremation and the return of Serene Sky’s ashes.
As a personal note, I still have regrets that I did not explore more extensively all possible conditions and medical options, in our situation waiting a little longer, however the outcome likely would have eventually led to Euthanasia at home or in the Veterinary hospital. This said I do think going with the euthanasia at home made it more warm and less stressful for Serene Sky as she was in familiar settings and with her brother in attendance. Dr. Roberts informed us that it would be good for Stormy Gray, Serene Sky’s brother to know what happened to his sister, that she was not left somewhere or simply disappeared. When Serene passed from this life, we set Stormy Gray down and let him smell and know that Serene was no longer with us. Serene and Storm were together since we adopted them at six weeks and for the next 16 plus years, they always had each other for company. When Storm does come to the end of his life, hopefully years from now if and when the condition warrants, Dr. Roberts will be my first choice to call.
I again thank Dr. Roberts for all of her assistance with Serene Sky and again I fully recommend Dr. Roberts for at home euthanasia. As with all hospice workers and end of life workers whether with people or animals, end of life issues are complicated and trying for all involved. I am very glad to know however, that special people like Dr. Roberts are there to assist and provide as comfortable an end of life as possible. I would give Dr. Roberts a 10-star rating on a scale of 5 being the best if possible.
