My dog has been going to these wonderful people since henwas 2 months old and he’s now 5! He loves them! We only trust them with his care. They are gentle and loving towards him, they give him time if he has a little meltdown. They are just amazing! Living in Alberta now we actually went back to Winnipeg for a visit and made sure to stop in for his nail trim and it was great to see them as usual!!! Definitely recommend them to everyone!!!!

They called me to follow up with his recovery progress. I wish that they had told me about the side effects of the medication he was given (Convenia), I did not expect him to be so lethargic after, but that passed after 48 hours.

We have been going to this vet pretty much since they first opened. They have seen most of our pets over the years, from first checkups to exams on our rescues, to kindly and professionally assisting us when one of our beloved pets passed on. I cannot say anything bad about them, they are wonderful people first and actually listen to you and give a thorough check up before any diagnosis. If you are looking for an animal hospital that does all the little things, like calling to see how the pets are doing and sending pet birthday cards while maintaining the utmost professionalism this is the place for your pet and you.

I called in to get a quote on a cat spay. I was asked to be put on hold for the "other girl". I waited 10 minutes to be told that they don't give quotes for a spay and would have to come in for an assessment first for 70$. I'm not sure why I had to be put on hold for someone else to tell me that. The women on the phone sounded unsure of what to even say on why I she couldn't give me a quote. I almost wanted to ask for someone else but I had already been on hold for so long. Im going to opt to go somewhere after reading the other reviews online becuse obviously they are trying to get your more of your money before I'm even in the door. It's sad when you can tell an office cares more about money then they animal.

I have been bringing my Mini Schnauzer and my Tea Cup Chihuahua to the clinic for over five years. When I had to put down my Schnauzer they were caring and understanding and helped me through my bad time. I continued to bring my Chihuahua there. I find that they are friendly and great with my dogs. They have examined my dogs without trying to add additional costs to my vet bill. I have been to many vets where I tests where done that were not needed and only told that it is just a precaution to have the test done. Example one vet wanted to have my dog give a blood test that cost over $200.00 because she was getting dental surgery to have her teeth cleaned a tooth pulled. When I go see my dentist I don't have to have a costly blood test. So what is the dentist needing a blood test unless he is doing more than a teeth cleaning and pulling one tooth. That is why I started coming to Fort Garry Vet. I am told exactly what is and not needed to save me that extra money and make me a loyal customer. I thank all the friendly and good vets for their good service and care for my pets.

A friend had recommended Fort Garry Vet Hospital. On that particular day, our dog needed to see a vet because of an upset stomach. I called thinking we would have to make an appointment for the following day since it was after noon. The receptionist said we could come right away. I was impressed. So the two people and two dogs went right over. The receptionist was very welcoming. The tech was wonderful, kind and very patient with all my questions and worries. When Dr. Bhandari came in I was very worried about hearing another Vet's opinion about my 17 year old dog. Dr. B was wonderful and very informative. He gave us medicine and we headed home. He was very, very comforting and very supportive. I happened to visit another vet hospital in the city about a month later. The friend I was with said her vet is the best. Of course, I had to go into the appointment and observe. Although the other vet was good, I would not change from Dr. Bhandari; besides the other vet hospital had charges that were twice more than the prices at Fort Garry Vet Hospital. If you have a loved one that has 4 legs, I would highly recommend that you make an appointment with Dr. Sanjiv Bhandari.

I took my medium sized black lab Border Collie whos fully trained and the most friendliest dog you'll ever meet to get checked out from a veterinarian here after she was attacked and Bitten on the back leg from another dog There veterinarian was so scared, nervous and anxious to come close to my dog it was ridiculous my dog was picking up on her energy and becoming nervous and anxious herself which is not like her personality at all I ended up walking out of the examination due to the fact that how could a human who is that physically scared, nervous and anxious properly do their job on a injured animal I truly believe animals pick up on your emotions and energy and when you are too stressed or anxious your animal will be a veterinarian you should know how to hold there composure around animals potentially this may not be the right job for this individual Again Ridiculous

I will never go back after my horrible experience!! My cat was sick and the doctor examined her and prescribed medication. This alone cost me almost $400. Then the doctor called me the next day recommending a whole bunch of other tests and surgery to have my cat spayed to the tune of over $900! I declined and said I will treat her at home with the medication. The receptionist then told me if I didn’t opt for it my cat could die. I treated my cat with the medication for 14 days as prescribed and she got better and is now doing very well! No one called me back in the two week period or at all since then to see how my cat was doing!! Such a money grab!!

I love Fort Garry Vet. I have been bringing my dog, Mars, there for almost 3 years. They treat me like family and they have a great system to let you know when you need to update vaccines. Going to the vet can be so expensive but here, I know I can trust my vet to give me advice to actually help me save money. For instance I've had concerns about my dogs oral health, and I was planning on buying chews from the vet - she said the much better option would be to find the time to brush his teeth once a day. She could have made $60 dollars off me but she reccommended otherwise. They take such good care of my boy and deal with his craziness. Sometimes I get them to cut his nails, something he is so scared of, and they do a fantastic job. I never fear being judged whereas a groomer at PetSmart made judgements about his oral health and his nails thinking that I don't care. The truth is most places can't even cut my dogs nails because he's really afraid, but at Fort Garry they get EVERYONE to help out and take it on, it's like a 5 man job. I appreciate it a lot. They even give me tips to help reduce his fears. It's not even the closest vet to me, there might be 4-5 in between but I don't even consider the switch. Dr. W and her team are so good to us, and we will be lifetime clients ❤.

I came here for a second opinion on my very ill senior diabetic shih tzu. She was a disaster with a skin infection, allergies, fever, antibiotic resistance, and hyperglycaemia. It was a very scary and heart wrenching few weeks. The dr was so kind! He was gentle with my dog and he was so knowledgeable and great at explaining everything to me. He is realistic but optimistic. His treatment plan is very well thought out weighing in pros and cons of each aspect. She just started her new treatment plan but I’m already seeing an improvement. I will absolutely be continuing my pet’s care at this clinic.

Prices are alot higher then other vets. Was 70$ more expensive for identical tick and flea tablets. Asked for a prescription to get elsewhere. They would only write one for a fee cause its their polic. Outrageous. Makes you wonder what else they charge you for according to their "money grabs"

I would recommend this vet clinic. They have always been kind compassionate and caring toward my dog. The vet has always explained procedures and /or alternatives. ** See update below for 2020 Update. The care of the animals is still excellent. However their pricing has gone up astronomically. I is my understanding that many vet clinics in Winnipeg have been bought out by some Toronto based corporations. They are now charging Ontario prices for services and supplies including prescriptions. I am seriously considering changing vets for this reason. Cannot recommend due price gouging. As an example I wanted to get my dog's insulin prescription filled by another clinic for convenience sake. They wanted a $15 fee just to give the OK to the other clinic. Had an argument about the $1,000's I have spent there already. They backed down this time but said it was only one time deal. Also their insulin prices have increased by about 30% in the space of less than 6 months. This tough on a pensioner.

I called the Fort Garry Clinic today to ask a question regarding the tail docking procedure. Back story: We've had our dog since she was 2 months old, she is now a whopping 90lb, 1 year old beauty. The tip of her tail started cracking recently and we've been wrapping it for a few weeks now - she keeps chewing off the wrapping to get to her tail. She's since created more damage and my husband and I aren't sure what we should do beyond the constant wrap/bandage - clearly it isn't a long term solution. When I called today I spoke with the receptionist, I told her I wasn't sure but thought that the tail docking procedure was likely what is in store for our pup - not something I ever wanted to do but wasn't (still not) aware of our options. The receptionist ask me questions regarding the reasoning behind my thoughts - I explained the "back story". The receptionist then placed me on hold. When I was taken off hold I was now speaking with a technician who had ‘been filled in on my intent to have my dog's tail docked’. This technician explained to me that the tail docking procedure is considered an amputation as it severs vertebrae. I had no idea as this was the first time I had ever inquired about tail docking. "You wouldn't want your back chopped off would you", says the technician. Are you serious? Yes, that is what she said to me; and no she wasn't polite. I'm a concerned owner, calling in regarding my animal's health. I wasn't asking to have the tail chopped off for aesthetics, I'm not a veterinary, don't have a veterinary friend, haven't ever gone through veterinary training/schooling, have never worked in a veterinary clinic. How am I supposed to know what to do with my situation other than calling in and simply asking for answers? I didn't get any answers from her, I got attitude. Just some advice Fort Garry Technician; when a pet owner calls in for answers and mentions a procedure that you don't agree with - bite your tongue, pull your head out from where the sun don't shine and do your job. Give advice, suggestions and answers. Well done - you just lost a client.

I went to Fort Garry Veterinary for a second opinion on the condition of my dog Bailey. Unfortunately they confirmed what I already knew (but hoped I was wrong) and that Bailey was not going to get better. They were very forthcoming with information and compassion. They were supportive of the decision that had to be made. As my daughter told me Bailey is in "doggy heaven" and I appreciated their support, assistance and compassion.

My dog has always received great care here. The staff has never talked down to me, assuming I know nothing, or tried to puff up an explanation with unnecessary jargon. I've never felt pressured to pay for treatment or medicine my dog didn't need. I think my dog likes it at FGVH, too; every time we drive by on Pembina, she gets very excited and her tail almost wags right off her rear end! Considering she's had an eye surgery and lots of vaccinations and still loves going back...pretty high praise from the canine client who would know best.

Our girl is a monster when coming to get her toenails done. Although scared at Fort Garry Vet Hospital like she is at any vet's the staff is always, kind, gentle and patient with her. I don't have to hold on like I'm trying to catch a greased pig!! The clinic is always clean and I find the staff very friendly, polite and professional.

The only good part about the experience was that they were promptly on time. When we had originally called, we were quoted at a price just below $200 with the understanding that the price could go up a bit based on his weight. We gave full disclosure, that our dog was over 100lbs. so they ought to have had a reasonable expectation of what we were to be charged. When we got to the appointment the new quote that appeared was for almost $450 which we were told was based on his weight. Because he was over 45kg's it knocked the price up that much. When we weighed my dog it was determined that he was 52kg's so I have a hard time understanding how those 7kg's were worth over $200. Although we proceeded with the appointment, I found the vet to be very timid and not what I'd expect from a veterinarian at all. I would expect a vet to show true affection for a dog and give me the sense they are a genuine animal lover. I didn't feel that way at all. My overall experience with this clinic is that they're run like an autobody shop, or a mechanic, where they'll quote a reasonable price to get you through the door and then blindside you with a price that is inflated by more than double. I wish now that I had just walked out and took my dog elsewhere.

Fort Garry Veterinary Hospital is the best! The staff is compassionate and understanding. The care is exceptional and the cost of services is much better than other veterinary hospitals. They always provide a quote and there are no "hidden" fees. Bring your fur babies here; you won't be disappointed!

I have been going to this vet for about a year and i was not aware that i was getting RIPPED OFF! After this vet, i went to 4 other vets, and found out that they charged almost half of what this vet charges. They charge to much for the checkups and make you get x-rays for the animal when its not really needed. Now i go to the Alpine vet clinic which is amazing! He charges about 30% of what this vet used to charge and handles the cases with way more care. This vet only wants to make money. Their rip offs. If you want to find a good vet, then do not go here.
