Staff are friendly and accommodating. I have two cats that I normally bring together in one large carrier. For whatever reason, one of my cats was especially crabby after a visit and attacked my other cat when I put her in the carrier. The vet let me borrow one of their spare cases so that I could separate them for the drive home, which was extremely helpful. I have always received great care for my pets here.

Thorough - your pet will be examined thoroughly. Even though the clinic is very busy, your time in the exam room never feels rushed. Everything they do is explained in detail, and their follow-up is superb! 2. Professional - every single person affiliated with the clinic is at the top of their game. They understand the relationship people have with their animals, and they are committed to providing exceptional care to both the patient and the client. 3. Compassionate - we deal primarily with Dr. Blair, and we consider her one of our blessings in life. When the time came to put our Old English Sheepdog (nearly 13 yrs old) down, Dr. Blair came to our home. Her care and compassion was evident throughout. We were so grateful, and feel indebted to her for this kind gesture. 4. Educative - when lab/test results become available, you'll receive a call and every treatment option will be communicated to you as well as estimated costs, possible side effects, and other considerations. In addition, they'll take time to answer ALL of your questions, and are totally respectful of your choices. I've always found the accompanying notes typed up to be thorough and "on point," so that I can explain things to my partner, or do additional research on my own. 5. Collaborative - you will feel like you've found a true partner in the care of your pet. You will not be "talked at." You will be listened to - and decisions that need to be made feel honored and respected.

This really is a great business filled with kind people who love what they do. I have been trusting St Francis with the care of my dogs for about 10 years. Over that time, I think I have seen all the vets at least once and have been happy with my experiences with all. If I need to bring my pet in, all my many questions get answered thoroughly, with an abundance of patience, genuine care for my pets, and friendliness towards me. If there is some procedure they recommend, I don't feel pressured to do them -it is clearly always my choice- and the costs for those types of things (for example, x rays or ultrasounds or additional bloodwork) are always discussed up front, as well as any other potential avenues for treatment. Any time I call with questions, I get clear answers, or someone gets back to me quickly if they don't know the answer and need to talk to a vet first. Again, with patience and friendliness. I am very very happy with my many experiences at St Francis!

I think this is a locally owned and run place, but if it isn't it's run like one. Chains are becoming more popular among vets these days and my experience with them has been poor - price lists and "optional" treatments seem more important than medical care. This is NOT the case at St Francis. They take their time, provide good care and in my experience are good at providing context to recommended treatments so you can make an informed decision. This is a good place to bring you pet! (I have a 65 lb lab mix).

It can be difficult to find a good, trustworthy animal clinic -- a clinic where you feel comfortable with both the staff and the medicine they practice. SFAB is a GREAT practice, and its staff consistently go above and beyond the call of duty for their patients AND clients. Despite the busy atmosphere, appointments never feel rushed. The doctors perform thorough exams, and it's evident that they and the amazing techs truly care about what they do. I'd trust any one of them with my animals, and I would (and do!) recommend them to anyone.

The three things I like most about St Fransis and Katie Cartledge our Vet are: 1. They truly care about my pet cat, BabyGirl 2. They don't mess around. They get right to solving the problem with a good sound approach which they discuss with you in detail first. 3. They are willing to work with you to keep the costs down even when you would like to assume some of the direct medical care responsibilities including purchasing your medications elsewhere. Our cat has Kidney Disease which can be a long expensive process. Keeping the costs under control is an important part of being able to provide the best pet care.

The staff are kind people, however, I had written notes when I made my appointment about my concerns. I work a very physically and mentally demanding job, meaning I was incredibly tired by the time I got to the vet (I am working a lot of overtime) I told the first person my concerns on top of the written notes in their system. Those concerns were never passed onto the Vet. Instead of addressing my concerns about my cats eating habits and her anxiety when it comes to cars (we will be taking a long road trip soon), they were more focused on trying to sell me heartworm medications and other things I had no interest in. My concerns for coming in were never addressed even though I have verbally and even wrote what my concerns were, they did not give me or even tell me what options there were. They are salesmen instead of vets. I have wasted my hard earned money just to have them try to sell me things I did not need. Now I can not afford to take her somewhere else. These positive reviews are misleading. Please do not make the same mistake for your pet.

I stayed with St. Francis because the service and care my dog and I received were amazing. After I moved many miles from the clinic I continued to go to St. Francis because I feel like they appreciate my business and they really cared about me and my dog. I feel like the care we received allowed my dog to go old gracefully and the doctors helped me with the tough decisions about quality of life and end of life that we all have to face with our beloved furry friends. I could not have asked for more care or compassion when that final time came. It was truly a blessing to be at St. Francis. Before my dog passed, an amazing cat found her way into my life and Neve Kitty has been a patient at St. Francis for almost 9 years. St Francis is the only clinic she has been to, and she is as happy and health as a kitty can be. They know her, love her and care as deeply care about her health and wellness as I do. Bottom line: St. Francis has provided me and my two pets with exceptional care and unmatched service for over 17 years. I would never go anywhere else. SFABH is simply the best there is! Their doctors and staff are extraordinary. Very few clinics take avian patients and it is genuinely hard to find veterinarians who keep current on avian medicine and are even willing to see a bird-client. Over the course of many years I've brought them my birds for not only routine care but for some very difficult and hard to diagnose conditions. My neighbor recommended this office and we have been taking our 2 cats here for about 2 years. We have always had amazing experiences, mostly with annual check-ups/vaccinations, and with a few other issues (barbering, limps, bare spots, eye infections, etc). All of the doctors are extremely nice and knowledgeable. They give you straightforward advice about how to proceed with the treatment of your pet, with upfront info about costs and time. The vets are great about following up by phone or email. Overall, the best experience I've ever had at a vet office.

The staff at St. Francis has always been incredibly helpful and supportive. It's clear that they care about our pets just as much as we do. What impresses me most about them is that they check in with you about your pet to see if you need anything. After having my cat neutered, one of the vets called a few days later to make sure he was healing ok. And when we made a trip to the emergency vet one weekend, they called again to see if everything was going well in the healing process. There's no one I'd recommend more!

We have always had the best care from every vet and assistant at St. Francis – for more than 20 years, 3 cats + 1 dog. It does feel like it is getting "expensive" but realize that running a hospital is costly (and there is never any judgement if you can't afford to do annuals, for example). Staff is so compassionate – they take the time to call in person to keep us informed, and especially, check in when the going is rough. I am ever grateful to everyone there who helped at the end.

I have been going to a different vet for 18 years but was unhappy with the service and someone recommended St Francis Bird and Animal Hospital to me. I was reluctant to switch because Roseville is miles form where I live but I am so glad that I did make that switch in the end. The level of service which I'd received from Dr Blair, is unmatched to anything which I'd experience before especially given that I was going to be short term client since my pet was coming to the end of her life. I had taken my pet in a couple of times only for a visit because she hated the vet's office and we were trying to spare her the agony. Dr Blair would call to find out how she was doing from time to time, sometimes out of normal hours to help us through the stresses or what our dear pet was going through. I can't say enough good things about them. The staff of the clinic, just wonderful, so accommodating and understanding. Thank you Dr Blair. I am forever grateful to you.

The service and care provided at St. Francis is truly unparalleled. Dr. Kevin Roeser is so great to work with and is extremely knowledgeable and articulate, and clearly cares about his patients. I brought my conures in for a general exam and was very happy with the entire visit. I really liked that the birds were examined right in the room and it was great to be able to watch the entire process. Dr. Roeser explained everything thoroughly and clearly and I left feeling great about my birds' health and wellness. My birds were calm and happy throughout the whole exam. I hope Dr. Blair does not mind me telling this story. It is so endearing that it had made me tear-up. While at the clinic one day I happened to see Dr. Blair eating her lunch. What was so special is she was eating with one hand, while rocking a "patient" with the other hand/arm. (The patient was recovering from surgery & anesthesia.) Wow! It made my heart melt. THE FOLLOWING IS A REVIEW OF DR BLAIR: We have Dr. Blair, who is also the owner, and she is incredibly thorough. From day one with our puppy GSD, we felt welcome. All of our concerns were addressed, as Dr. Blair shows a broad range of knowledge and provides excellent advice. We spayed our puppy at 7 months in which she did NOT receive an infection (which is the best indication of a thorough, clean, surgeon, who in this case was Dr. Blair). As someone (myself) who use to work hand-in-hand with surgeons, I've seen how many Dr.s have little regard for being as sterile as possible. Our puppy did however suffer diarrhea, lack of appetite, and a mild bleeding disorder, which Dr. Blair provided successful cures for all. Dr. Blair is kind and doesn't waffle on advise (Meaning she tells you exactly what she feels is best). THE FOLLOWING IS A REVIEW OF THE STAFF: The staff is great, loves smiling and playing with our puppy. They are cognizant of being gentle yet firm with our puppy and they too provide great advise. We had issues with crate training in the beginning and a staff member recommended a wire crate instead of the plastic. I didn't think it was good advice as all I had read before said "Get a plastic Crate". She was spot on. Turns out our puppy loves looking around while being in her crate and our crate training woes disappeared instantly. At 4 months, our pup had an issue in which another DR. (cant remember the name) was spot on with the diagnoses.

We have been going to SFAH for many years, since 1990! They have taken great care of 4 pets, 1 dog and 3 cats. The expertise of the doctors and staff is wonderful, and they have helped us through some tough cat and dog illness! Most recently our beloved cat of only 10 years developed stomach cancer and had to be put down. The whole process was compassionate and caring. Our old lady, 20 year old cat is the medical challenge which SFAH has managed wonderfully well. She is allergic to chicken, losing weight, has an acidic stomach and . . . well, enough. She is doing very well only because of the skill of SFAH. This is a great animal clinic!!

Our rabbit Poppy almost died due to chewing and ingesting a stereo wire that contained lead solder (unknown to us). She completely shut down in GI stasis. No one know the cause of the illness, but SFAH would not give up, not because her care gave them income, but because they honored her as a living being in the spirit of Saint Francis. The young woman doctor (I forget her name) researched tirelessly and actively for a cause writing Universities and more for a cure while implementing triage measures. The doctor knit together disparate pieces of symptomatic and academic information. She would take the rabbit out of her cage and hold her, talk to her to encourage her and kiss her on her head regularly, then let her down for short times to hop to try to get things moving. Empathy was critical and frequent communication to the worried family was also a comfort. She told us Poppy hopped around her feet "like a puppy." We finally ended up taking Poppy Rabbit home after weeks to continue the treatment. She still was not processing her bowels quite normally and they showed us how to do everything at home. Poppy hated her prescribed 'food' and medicine but took it so good because she was never made to feel afraid at the hospital! They made her care feel loving - a vital medical practice. This took great care, high character and patience on their part. I am sure Poppy survived because of the quality of care. I am proud to report that despite a very harrowing time, that our Poppy is now on her 5th birthday and full of health and life. We will never forget the kindness, respect and commitment of SFHA! How we treat the smallest creations (domestic or wild) and their natural needs,is a testament to our humanity.

The best veterinary office I've been to. I brought my Chihuahua as well as two fancy rats here, and always had the absolute best service. I came here because they were recommended for rat owners, and found that the vets took me and my pets seriously each and every time. When it came time to euthanize my rats due to age, they were very compassionate, kind, and patient. They were there to help when I first adopted my dog, who suffered from some problems from being homeless, and then, when I moved out of the country and brought my dog with me, they helped me every step of the way with his vaccinations and paperwork. I had a wonderful experience with St. Francis Aninmal hospital. We took our cat in because he wasn't eating, and it turned out that he had a mass in his abdomen. The vet, Dr. Knep, was great. He explained right away what the possible causes of the mass were, and the different things they could do to confirm a diagnosis. He was very up front about both the cost of the different procedures and the efficacy (or in this case, lack thereof) of treatment. Although I was devastated to hear that my cat was dying, I appreciated that he didn't try to give me false hope so that I would pay him to do pointless surgeries on my cat. The staff was friendly and kind when we made the euthanasia appointment, and even sent us a sympathy card afterwards. If I choose to get another pet in the future, I will definitely be returning to St. Francis.

I first visited St Francis about 8 years ago when my cat experienced urinary crystals. The vet I was using at the time had very limited hours and did not have the capacity to see us. I was referred to the AERC. A friend encouraged me to give St. Francis a try. I was able to get my cat in that very day for an exam and begin the recovery process. What impressed me SO MUCH was the follow up by St Francis staff members. After referring me to the AERC, the vet I had previously been using never reached out to check on my cat. When I adopted a rescue puppy 7 years ago, several of my neighbors recommended St. Francis. I did not solicit their advice, they just came out and said that was the place to go. They all had great things to say about the clinic so I took him there for his first checkup. Dr. Knep impressed me from the first moment he came in the room. He was not like other vets I'd had in the past. He got down on the floor and met my new pal with such enthusiasm, as if he was the only pup in the world! When some health issues were discovered due to the poor conditions my pup had been living in out of state, Dr. Knep got us through it all and my dog has been healthy and happy ever since. All the staff at St. Francis are friendly and caring, and I would not go anyplace else. They always take all the time you need during an appointment to answer questions and never make you feel like your being rushed out. When my ancient little Pomeranian suddenly got very sick, I tried to get him in for an urgent appointment on a Saturday at my regular vet, but they couldn't see him until Wednesday. I called St. Francis and they saw my little guy within an hour of calling. Dr. Blair is very good, and very compassionate. She even delivered antibiotics to me herself the next day, Sunday, when they were closed but lab results had come in. The next morning, my dog passed away in my arms but I wanted Dr. Blair to check him to make sure he wasn't just in a coma or something. I was able to come in right then, which was appreciated very much considering it was Christmas Eve (my regular vet was closed and completely unreachable that day, so I couldn't even cancel my Wed appointment). She checked him and didn't charge me for that or for the antibiotics that she brought to me the previous morning. He had what appeared to be a brain tumor, so there was really nothing that could have saved him, but it is obvious that Dr. Blair cares first for her patients and customers, not first about money which is something I've run into several times while searching for a good vet. I couldn't have asked for a better experience (considering) and I will be going to Dr. Blair from now on with the rest of my canine crew.

I agree with a recent review that the staff is nice enough, and I never had a necessarily unpleasant interaction with anyone at the clinic. But there is a major lack of details and personal attentiveness. We just move to Roseville from South Minneapolis, and had an amazing clinic (Lake Harriet Vet) that knew us and always went above and beyond, so perhaps my expectations were just too high. I have 3 dogs, therefore am always in and out for different things. I foster with a local rescue and have been in and out of the U of M ICU many times over the last few years, but I was treated by tech's (not Doctors) like I was an idiot when it came to dog care. Nobody cared to get to know me, our story, or my pups. Dr. Roeser was/is great, and knows his stuff, I wish I could see him with my dogs under different circumstances/clinic. I've had dogs for 15 years, and I've never in the past felt hurried to talk to a vet, but I felt very rushed without time to discuss anything with the doctor while he was in the room. The conversation was mostly with the tech, who was new. Lake Harriet would allow more than enough time to discuss any and all behaviors, concerns, and the vets took time to get to know me and my dogs. As they should- it's a business, and I spent over $6k with them last year. Therefore should be treated as such. I'm used to one on one conversations with the doctor, no assistant or tech present that only distracts from conversation. I never received follow up results from either of my dogs exams/tests, so when I called a month later, they told me they emailed me, but they had the wrong email on file, even after I emailed them many many records on multiple occasions previously. Additionally, I asked to have an appointment with the doctor either on the phone or a double/extra long appointment in person to discuss a very highly sensitive case with my tiny 3lb dog that I have with major issues with. They basically told me that they don't do that, so there isn't a chance in this world that I'd make another appointment for a check up with the experience I've had with my other two dogs. 5 minutes with the doctor isn't nearly enough time to cover 50+ pages of all really important and relevant medical information on her. Long story short, after moving and transferring to St. Francis, I will now be going back to Lake Harriet Vet despite the distance/drive.

We had to put our beloved kitty down a few days ago after ~12 years due to cancer that came on quite quickly. Dr. Blair is our primary doctor and has always been so sweet and professional. We unfortunately had to put her down on a day that Dr. Blair was not there, but Dr. Knep was wonderful. The only interactions he had had with her were when he took the radiographs and told us the news of her mass and when he put her to sleep. I don't know him but he was very caring and patient. I am so grateful for all the care we have gotten for our cat. We don't live in Roseville but I can't imagine going to another practice. I want to thank the doctors and staff from the bottom of my heart. It may not be the cheapest place, though I don't know because I've literally only gone there for care, but it is well worth it. RIP Spock. Thank you again, Dr. Blair.

love this hospital! Everyone is always very respectful and kind! Easy to schedule an appointment with. Always on time! Doctors are friendly and sweet and loving towards my pets. I even had not been charged once when I had a question about my pets growth on the foot. The doctor looked at it, took care of it quickly and let me leave without charging for the visit, because it was quick and easy. St. Francis has been our veterinary clinic for approximately 25 years, and I so appreciate the quality and extensive range of medical services they provide, including acupuncture, massage, palliative care, and hospice. I currently have a 12 1/2 year old beagle, Missy, whom I adopted from a rescue after she had been abused her first year and a half of life. Subsequent to adopting her she was diagnosed with heartworm disease, a gastrointestinal condition, and recently stage 2 kidney disease, which have required many clinic visits over the 11 years. For the first few years Missy was afraid to enter the clinic, but because of the friendly and loving attention she's received from the doctors and staff all these years, she now very willingly enters the clinic, where the staff get down on their knees to welcome, talk to, and pet her. I can't thank the St. Francis doctors and support staff enough for the great care they provide my beloved pets, and the time they all take to answer my multitude of questions. Thank You!!!

During this Covid 19 time, you have set up a very safe procedure for all. Keeping us informed about how our fur kid, Tabby, is doing. The checking in and picking up procedure while in your parking lot is fantastic. We have been bringing our cats to St Francis Animal and Bird Hospital since 1997 when we got our cat Xeno (also known as Jack) At age 19 years old we loss Xeno, a very rough time. We also brought the school's classroom guinea pig and our guinea pigs during this time too. My only regret is that we didn't know about St Francis earlier so we could have brought our dog to them too. When I look at how our dog was treated at another pet clinic and compare them to St Francis.....there is no comparison. St Francis' staff over all these years continue to give excellent care to our fur family members and so much love too. We have had our share of sadness being faced with saying goodbye to our dog, Pepper and cat, Kitty. During these last moments the staff at St Francis again made this time special and gave us a quiet place to say goodbye. We found a mother cat and her kittens(we found homes for all) with us keeping mom cat Kitty and one of the kittens, Sweetie. Fast forward we loss both Kitty and Sweetie over the years due to cancer. Our current cat, Tabby found us, she appeared in our yard and we took her in....she is now 11 years old. Added to our fur family another cat, Eli (age 3 years) who we enjoyed for 8 plus years (we loss Eli in 2019 due to cancer). Our daughter and her husband adopted cat brothers, Beaker & Bunsen. Unfortunately, at age 2 yrs they loss Beaker who had a heart attack. Their time saying goodbye to Beaker was hard; however, the St Francis staff eased the stress and pain. They then took in a grandmother's cat Rosie who is also a joy to our family. She and Bunsen have come to like each other. They also adopted a Great Dane puppy named Grand Duchess Fiona, who is now turning 3 years old in November 2020. So when you walk into St Francis Animal and Bird Hospital, you feel welcomed right away. Know your pet will receive excellent care and be loved....

I have been going to St. Francis for about 9 years. I would not go anywhere else. I utilize their holistic services quite often. My 12 year old dog started acupuncture and laser treatment on her hip. She has severe hip dysphasia from her previous life before adopting her. This has done more for her than I ever could have expected. She’s been going for a few years and it went from her not able to get on the couch and in a great deal of pain to being much more manageable. She was able to stay off lots of pain meds which I would prefer not to use unless it’s a last resort. It’s been amazing how well this has worked. Dr. Blair who does the acupuncture is hands down the most wonderful vet and person. I absolutely trust her with my dogs. It has definitely given my dog extra years that she can have a great quality of life as well. She goes up north and runs like a crazy lady. I can take her on regular walks without her not being able to finish. I highly recommend it!!!

I have been going to Dr Blair at St. Francis for I believe about 20 years. I live in S. Mpls and the care at St Francis is clearly worth my time to go that far. I started going there when my lab Sammy was about 5 and I wasn't impressed with the vets near me. Sammy lived to 17 yrs old - Dr. Blair and her staff was so involved with Sammy - caring and extremely personable throughout his life and then when we had to make the tough decision at the end - I couldn't have asked for a better Dr to help me. I now have 2 cats who are 6 and I tried to stay close to home for their visits - but within 3 mths I was back at St. Francis. I won't take my pets anywhere else! Dr. Blair is awesome!
