We went to Rose Canyon as a recommendation from a friend and saw Dr. Romero for our first wellness visit. I have a 10 week old aussie shepherd. Raely & I had the best first experience ! He was so sweet with her as if she was his own little pupper. His dog bedside manner was so great!!! He was also very patient with me (being a new dog mom) as I asked 21 questions without making us feel rushed and was very super attentive and informative. The vet techs and front desk were also very sweet! I also mistakenly forgot some papers I needed filled out and sent them via email today and the turn around time was great, so thank you! I am so happy with the service here. Can't wait to continue our care :) 10/10 recommend Dr. Romero and Rose Canyon vet

Love Dr. Michael and all the staff at Rose Canyon. I've been taking my many cats & dogs there since 2009 even though I have since moved to the College area. The front desk and tech staff has always treated me and my animals professionally and with kindness. Several times, my pets have been squeezed in same day to accommodate emergencies. Dr. Michael has made himself available via email where we've conducted long convos re: a particular pet's needs. He's followed some of my pets' ongoing health issues with concern and care for years now. Dr. Michael has kindly worked with me and all my rescue animals, often giving me price breaks and comp-ing me certain services due to my high number of rescue cats and dogs and fosters. Dr. Michael has been our vet for several years. Before finding Rose Canyon Animal Hospital I tried other vets and was very unhappy with the experience. Dr. Michael is the absolute best. like most of my personal health care picks, my vet was a random 'close my eyes and point' choice (oh the pre-yelp days) which landed me at rose canyon. ive been very very lucky with this method. rose canyon has been a fabulous pet health care establishment for our two cats. they have gone here for basic check-ups to minor surgeries and ive always felt they were in very good hands. friendly, knowledgeable staff who never try to get you to do a bunch of unnecessary shots or other things. When the animal needs to go under for a procedure they give you a form with 'extra' things that can be done while they are having 'a cocktail,' like clipping nails, teeth cleaning or something else thats hard to do while awake. Very discreet and no pressure. The location is slightly odd on the bend of a hill, which could easily be missed...so drive slow if you aren't familiar. Always plenty of parking and very clean inside. one little bonus is they do a pet calendar contest every year which is cute. one of our cats was a runner up the first time we entered!

We have been coming to Rose Canyon Animal Hospital for over 10 years. While we initially chose it for the location (less than 2 miles from our home), we have become loyal fans. Dr. Michael is very caring and sits on the floor with our big dogs rather than having to put them up on the examination table, which definitely lowers their stress levels. Plus, prices are very reasonable. That is why we continue to come here even though we have moved to North Park and have a number of vets much closer.

My husband and I LOVE this clinic for our dogs. Dr. Michael is the best vet we've ever had for our puppies. Him and the staff take such good care of them and they are always very helpful and accommodating!!! Even during these crazy COVID times they have remained the absolute best. The love and care they give our dogs is just better than we could've expected. Recently we had surgery for one of our oldest pups and when he healed he was a millions times healthier and happier! I love that Dr. Michael brought my grumpy lump out of his funk and made him feel better.

Just Superb! I have been taking my pup here since he was a 1 pound un-weaned lil' abandoned plop. Dr. Michael is the animal whisperer. Such a sweet and knowledgeable man. Friends referred me here and I have been pleased for years. The staff are always responsive and make sure to alert the doctor if you have to call in with an urgent need. Always plenty of office staff to assist with check out, check in, record copies, prescriptions, etc. My dog gets a crazy excited whimper when we pull up. He LOVES the vet! Even when my pup has had issues, he seemed to always know that this was the place that would make it all better. He is always calm and trusting as we enter the doors to Dr. Michael's care. The various assistants always talk to the pets lovingly and understand how concerning it can be for the human owner/mama. I have always felt good about the care we get here and my dog's excitement speaks for itself (not to mention his overall great health!). Dr. Michael always explains various options (and it's not just drug 'em up and he'll be ok). Some things are just normal doggie stuff. Thank you for loving my pup as much as I do!!

Service was good. The price of an exam is 51.00 which is alot of money for those who are struggling financially. I was charged my first visit when I was told by one of their customers that have been going to this doctor for a couple of year's. That first time patients get a free exam. That was not in my case. Before you go for first time please inquire about the first visit exam being waived.

My daughter asked me to take her dog here, she was vomiting and had diarrhea..the front staff said they couldn't take her, she had no appt, and the Veterinarian was out performing surgery. That's it, no caring, compassionate words for us or the dog. We had to ask where the closest animal emergency hospital was and they gave us a card. I was so furious. I'd give this place 0 stars if that were possible. I ended up bringing the dog home and googling remedies myself, which worked. The appearance of friendliness and caring of this place is a facade, not meant for all, it seems. Very Poor Customer Service!

For many years, I have searched for a vet that I felt truly had my dog's best interest, as well as my pocket book. My search ended sometime ago at Rose Canyon Animal Hospital. I have several dogs and have gone in with descriptions of symptoms... as I described them Dr Michael would listen to me and watch my dog. Then he would say "I don't think x rays are necessary. I don't see those symptoms as indicating the need. However if that is what you would like, I will have them done." I am very pleased and grateful I finally found a vet that will work with me rather than just try to run tests to make money for the practice... just my humble opinion.

Staff is super friendly and responsive. Appointments can usually be scheduled within a week even though demands for vet visits are high nowadays. Most important of all, Dr. Michael is very knowledgeable and genuinely cares for his patients. He really takes time with his patients during a visit. My sweet puppy recently was tragically killed by a car. We were devastated and heard from a friend that Rose Canyon was a very caring, wonderful hospital and would be able to take his little body. Never having previously been to this hospital, we were so touched by the kind and attentive staff who met our grief and took excellent care of Muffin. We were especially touched to receive a handwritten letter from Dr. Anthony Michael a week later offering his condolences. I know this is a strange review because most people who read this are looking for a Vet/animal hospital to take care of their *living* animals but the loving, gentle, respectful way the whole staff - from the Admin, to Techs, to the Vet - cared for my sweet baby, even in death, speaks volumes about this business and about the ideals they embody. I have great things to say about Rose Canyon- all the Drs have been great! The last Dr. sat indian style on the floor with my pup for the entire time while doing a check up- giving him hugs and more importantly being patient and comprehensive with our silly questions. I have recommended to all of my friends! However, as much as I like them- the last time we called to make an appt for an injury, nothing overly crazy, but something that I wanted to be seen within the next 24 hrs in fear of internal issues. They said they had “no availability until the following week”. This was off-putting. I thought that’s the reason you pick a location and doctor as your pups primary. For the comfort to know they’re there for the scary/big moments. Not to go searching elsewhere at the last minute- frantically trying to find another doc to trust. I’m not sure if this is normal- but in PA where I grew up, if you called your vet you were in that day- maybe the following. :/ hoping this isn’t the case next time I have an injury. I do enjoy the staff. Just worry for our next potential injury- will be have support?

Great vet, but inadequate and poor communication by receptionists has led to a huge headache situation. Brought my dog in because she has been itching and I also needed her fecal sample tested so that she could be boarded. I specifically called hours before her appointment and asked if they could test her sample for boarding, and the receptionist said yes. My girlfriend brought my dog in, handed them the bag full of feces, and said that it was for the testing that I had called about earlier. The vet she met with was friendly and great. Two days later, when my dog needs to be boarded, I call the vet and ask about the test results - they indicate that they did not run any test results because they did not know what the feces was for. Ummm... hello. A client calls hours before the appointment, hands you a bag full of poop, and specifically says this is for the testing that was called about, and you don't know what to do with the bag of poop? The receptionist then blamed the "miscommunication" on my girlfriend. Incredibly frustrating experience, and now I have to rush to figure out how to get this test done.

Dr. Michael and the staff at Rose Canyon are just GREAT people who provide high quality animal care. I have a 10-yr old dog I fostered for a rescue -- the rescue group knew he'd need major dental work before they pulled him from the shelter -- they discovered pretty quick they had bitten off a little more than they could chew with this guy (no pun intended, lol) and were too cash poor to get his much needed dental surgery done. The cost estimates were $1500 to $2000! I needed to schedule the dog for his post-shelter exam and had been told where to take him by the resuce, but I'd had a very positive experience with Rose Canyon and Dr. Michael with my doxie when we first moved to SD so I figured why not take him there! During the free exam I asked Dr. Michael to quote the dental work. His quote was $600 --- less than half of ANYONE else. The rescue still struggled even with even the reduced cost. Concerned this dog might not get what he needed, I decided to make him a permanent member of the family and just adopt him so I could be sure he got what he needed. To help me out Dr. Michael allowed me to break the bill down into 2 payments of $300 each. When the dental surgery was done the bill came in at $450 instead of the quoted $600 and I was thrilled ... and recognized it was a wonderful favor for me and this little dog. I wrote the check for $225 and asked what date I should put on the second check and just cried when I found out that first payment of $225 was going to be the total. Only $225! A 50% "discount" was on the invoice. What other vet can you find with a heart that big? The follow up appointment earlier this week shows Foster (yes that's his name now) is healing well from the dental surgery (11 extractions and a oral/nasal fistula). The little dog now excudes energy! Removing those rotten teeth did wonders for him. His life would have been much less without that dental surgery. The truth is simple. Dr. Michael is a skilled vet with skilled staff and they just happen to have amazingly big hearts. Big enough to truly care for their animal patients. I can't say enough about the kindness they extended to me and my little dog. Dr. Michael is our vet from now on. I'll be taking all of the boys to him -- all 4 of them.
