I've been taking my rabbits to Algonquin Animal Hospital for over 8 years. All of the vets have been great - it can be hard to find someone with in-depth experience with small animals. I've found all of the staff to be very knowledgeable, and the service I've received is always attentive and compassionate. Efforts are made to provide complete care at minimal cost. Highly recommended.
I just walked in today for my pups first vet appointment. The front desk receptionist asked my name but no hello, no smile she didn’t even acknowledge my puppy. She told me I was early and I could stay or come back. She asked for his stool sample and simple walked away. No way am I going to bring my pup here. She looks like she can’t stand her job.
We started bringing our cats here when we moved to the area in 2018. We had no complaints in the beginning, but we've grown extremely dissatisfied this year and have since switched vets. Here are the main reasons why: Even after bringing our 5 cats here, we felt the service very cold. Although we've been here plenty (4 kittens and a senior kitty!), we always felt we were treated like brand new clients. Since COVID protocols have been in place, the level of service has declined significantly. For instance, we would book the first available appointment and arrive on time to check-in. However, we would need to flood the phone lines upon the clinic opening in order to get our pet inside, often waiting 10...15... mins in the parking lot since the phone lines were busy. If staff need a few minutes to get settled, that's fine... just start booking later instead of keeping us waiting outside! Dealing with the front desk was always an unpleasant experience. Whenever I called, I had the impression that I was bothering them. They do not empathize with client concerns and are very condescending. For example, earlier this year, I had made arrangements with my vet to get my kitten neutered despite operations being paused due to COVID. The receptionist refused to listen, ask the vet for clarification, or even consult my file to confirm what I said. She just kept repeating that they weren't booking operations as I was clearly getting frustrated. I told her that I would call back and she answers "Uh-huh you do that"... YIKES. I called back another day, talked to a different receptionist and got him in no problem. We probably should've cut our losses at that point but we wanted to wait until our last unspayed cat was fixed... which brings us to our final negative experience here. We called to book a consultation for a spay. This kitty HATES going to the vet and so we mentioned that we wanted to minimize the visits required for this procedure. The receptionist mentioned that she was also due for a rabies shot and so I said great, we can do that too during this appointment. Apparently she only put down the rabies shot as the reason for the appointment because we were unable to complete any pre-op bloodwork, even though that was the initial purpose of this appointment! The wanted us to come back for the bloodwork at a later date for a total of 3 visits when it was a struggle to get her to just the consultation and the spay. After a long conversation with our vet, we came to a mutual agreement and we booked the spay. Over a month later, they call us because they booked us for two separate spays (?) and tried to get us to come in for bloodwork again. We refused to book another appointment for the OPTIONAL bloodwork since she is a young healthy cat who's been under before without complications. We wanted to go ahead with the spay accepting our risk, and the front desk tried to convince us that we "misunderstood" and they would not perform the operation unless she completed the blood test. After some back and forth with the front desk (seeing a pattern here?), refusing to let us talk to our vet and now holding us hostage over this - optional - blood test, we cancelled "both" appointments and took our business elsewhere. No bloodwork needed and she'll be spayed next week. There was no attitude, no gaslighting, and no pressure to do something that we didn't want to do. We are very happy with our new vet and wished we'd made the switch sooner.
Wonderful staff and Dr. Dennis is fantastic. He tried a couple of different treatments for our cats ears problem before suggesting surgery. Great.
Great and friendly environment - the vets are very knowledgeable and the assistants are super friendly and great with our pets. The place is always clean and tidy. As a bonus, you get greeted by two very friendly cats who reside there! I can always be sure that my babies are in great care here. Thanks!
I would never wish anyone to bring their animal here. We brought my dog in to get a skin tag removed. From what we were told right before her surgery they put her outside to go to the bathroom and run around before her procedure and she “dropped dead” (their words). Therefore I guess having a heart attack and they didn’t help her. Another note, they NEVER CALLED US to tell us she passed. My mother went to pick her up and they told her hours and hours later. Terrible service, uncaring of emotion or contacting when something goes wrong. Their lucky we didn’t go to the legal side of things.
I've been bringing my babies here for years. The Drs and staff are very friendly and compassionate. They are always ready to answer any questions i might have.
I love this animal hospital they make you feel at home and treat your animals with love I would recommend this place to everyone searching for an amazing vet
They charged ear cleaning and nail trimming for $50 without telling me before they actually doing. So expensive!! A young doctor didn't explain clearly to me.she just said few words about my dog's allergy symptoms, and then ordered prescription food for my dog. It seems like she doesn't quite sure whats happening on my dog. Unpleasant experience. My friend goes there too. They are fine with the service and staff, but they are considering change hospital recently.
My wife & I have taken our pets here for about 30 years & have always gotten the best of care from all the vets. The staff have always been very good & we have nothing but good things to say about everyone there. We would recommend them for anyone who needs the services of a veterinary hospital.
Dr Ramoutah made my dog in great shape for weight, teeth and anal glands. She has a soothing temper (which is great when you are panicked after what is happening with your doggy) and she seems to know a lot (experience). I know they have made a mistake on a prescription once, but even if this could have been very bad it was not because the dosage they told me to use was half strength of what it should have been but Chanel healed perfectly anyway. They apologized sincerely. Humans make mistakes. You and I do too. This is life. I do recommend this clinic for taking good care of dogs. They are not the cheapest but they are not the most expensive ones either and I feel like they really care about my Chihuahua and not only my wallet. Every time I went there I was satisfied of results, advice and environment. Thanks Algonquin Animal Hospital!
I have been bringing my animals to the Algonquin Animal Hospital for the past few years and love it there!! The staff are friendly, informative and SOCIAL! All of the Doctors and Technicians I have dealt with have been a pleasure ..... So obviously, I'm a fan and highly recommend them :)
We have been going to Algonquin Animal Hospital since at least 1980. They have provided excellent care for our three dogs, Kessie, Toby, and Theo. Dr. Walker is very knowledgable and loving towards are pets, and the entire staff at the hospital are very caring and compasionate. :-)
Doctor Verbickas was excellent in dealing with us and our cat, taking the time to answer our questions concisely.
We've been clients of Algonquin Animal Hospital for about 20 years now. Always great service and care for our cats by everyone at the clinic. Highly recommended.
Really loved my experience here! As soon as you walk in you feel the warmth and love for animals they have. I had Dennis Verbickas as my vet for my kitten and he was very sweet and kind with her. He’s very professional and doesn’t proscribe anything the animals don’t NEED. With this clinic you get the close knit, small town vibes, without having to compromise on professionalism and competency.
I have never ever had a problem with this place. The staff do an amazing job in making you feel comfortable and treating your pet as one of their own, not just a client. I will never even look for another vet. And i recommend them any chance i get. Thank you for everything you do. Monty and Zuchi actually love visiting :)
Just moved here from a previous vet and I am impressed with the staff's level of caring, commitment and willingness to explain what they feel needs to be done - and costs associated with each possibility - before asking me to make a decision.
I recently tried to make an appointment for the following day. I went to the appointment and was told I never called back to confirm my appointment though I was never asked to do so. Instead of apologizing for the miscommunication and attempting to find a solution, they turned me away. I can't speak to the quality of care provided by the medical team because I never was able to see a vet. I was extremely disappointed with the reception service. I've worked in customer service so I'll chalk this up to a bad day, but I won't be returning. Having a sick pet is stressful as it is. It doesn't need to be made worse by unhelpful or unfriendly staff.
I am very happy that you were and had room to take me in as a new client ..I am very happy with the service you are providing me ...All staff is very friendly and approachable.....Thank-u for what u do ..Saffron, Banjo,Tanzy Yoshi ..Wisper and Mimzy also Thank-u !!!
We are so pleased with the staff and veterinary doctors. They are genuine in concern for our pet’s health and providing excellent tips on maintaining our pet’s well being.
Nothing but great things to say about Algonquin animal hospital. Very friendly staff and they are great with both my dog and cat. Wouldn't take them anywhere else
good service - caring doctor - the receptionists forgot to give me the nutrition information and the bill was a bit of a shock although i was told some prices which i agreed to before they were added on to the bill - bottom line it's a caring and professional clinic
From the minute we entered Algonquin Animal Hospital, to the moment we walked out the door, we were thoroughly impressed!!! We switched to this vet after a few terrible experiences at another vet (near Fallowfield and Greenbank) and our experiences were night and day. The team at Algonquin Animal hospital were incredibly friendly and greeted us right away. Their vet techs were wonderful and helped us trim our wiggly 4 month old puppies paws for free!! The vet, Dr McIntosh, is clearly an expert in his domain and had amazing bedside (puppyside?) manners. He got down to greet our dog, spent a thorough amount of time examining him, and was patient in answering all our questions, and he made sure that our puppy was comfortable for all his vaccines. We could not be happier with the level of service care here, and will now be lifetime customers. We are happy we took the risk to switch vets, because our experience blew our expectations away!
Normally pretty good service, but pretty expensive. During the pandemic they vaccinated my dog before the vet called me to verify what I wanted her to get. They later corrected the mistake, however I find this representative how how pushy they are to sell things to you during your visits.
All the staff I've met at Algonquin Animal Hospital are kind, responsive and knowledgeable. The vets genuinely care about you and your pet, and they take the time to explain things clearly and completely. I've been taking my cat here for almost two years now and I wouldn't go anywhere else.
Friendly staff but you never get in to see a vet until at least 30 minutes after your appointment time. I've been going here for 10+ years due to its location. Overall I've had great experiences but sitting in the waiting room with a squirming, barking dog for that long kills me.
Compassionate and great service. I would recommend this place to anybody.
Such an amazing place, every single person I've dealt with (and there has been a lot) has been delightful and very helpful. One small mistake happened (no harm to me cat was done) and they took full ownership of it and went above and beyond what they had to (Thank you Tama). After my girl was spayed they called to check in on her and even when I was worried and came back in two days later, they put me at ease and even called before my appointment to see if they could walk me through anything I could do at home. I very highly recommend this place. And their cat boarding is fantastic as well. 6 stars. Thank you everyone who works there!
Dr. Walker is wonderful and shares her knowledge with us. She has been seeing our dog since he was born. The staff and other Veterinarians are wonderful. Our dog gets excited when he knows we are going to the vet.
What a breath of fresh air this place is... Our previous furry family member went to another vet for 15 yrs... That other place pushed upgrades till he passed.. Even after he passed... But this place has been nother short of amazing w our new furry family member... Educating us but not pushing anything onto us.. Glad this place is here... Great staff and great vets!
I cannot tell you how amazing the staff are at Algonquin Animal Hospital. Our cat had severe periodontal disease and needed 17 teeth extracted! They only extracted what they had to and removed the infection from her gums. She had her surgery last night and is already back to normal. She's playing and eating on her own for the first time in a long time. We had to force feed her before and she should could only eat the gravy from canned cat food. Dr. Ha performed the surgery along with the assistance of Cheryl. Everyone from the reception to the doctors are friendly and courteous. Even with all of the work our baby required the price was lower than 3 other vets we consulted with in the Ottawa area. This is definitely our new vet for our fur babies. Thanks for everything!
Always very professional and knowledgeable. When my dog needs immediate attention they have always been able to fit me in.
Kind, generous animal lovers work here. They are thoughtful, compassionate and give great advice. I drive across the city to bring my little buddies there.
Sick pet goes in, sick pet with a wellness plan comes from out. Covid procedures do require a cellphone so be aware.
We are very happy with the attention and care our pet receives there each time we are their. Dr. Mackintosh is one of the best vets our pet had in her life so far.
We have been going to Dr. McIntosh at the Algonquin Animal clinic since we got our now 2 year old Rottweiler. Dr. McIntosh has been great with dealing with him. He has some fear based aggression and is especially nervous at the vet, but Dr. McIntosh has made an effort to get him to warm up to him. He is very good at directing us with what to do at the appointment so he can do a thorough check up on him and give him his vaccinations. He has also been very helpful with referring us to trainers/behavioural therapists, as well as helping with us our insurance coverage. He has up to date knowledge on specific questions we ask, he also shows genuine care and we never feel rushed at our appointments. Great vet, I would highly recommend!
I have been going here ever since my dog was a puppy, and he's almost 10 now. All the staff and veterinarians I have dealt with have been very helpful and knowledgeable.
I went there for a check up with my cat and it went well, no issues. I did find the worm pills kinda pricey... But otherwise good. Also I told them he had been to an initial check up once before so I probably didn't need the worm pills. Just a comment. Otherwise everything was great and the vet answered all my questions
I bring Kenya here for all her med stuff and they've always been very nice. We also buy her veterinary food here as well and I have never doubted that they treat her very nicely while she's in with the vet
I love the staff and vets at Algonquin Animal Hospital. They are compassionate and take great care of my lil dog. The service is always curtious and goes above and beyond what I've experienced at other vets. I would recommend fully. As for stars, 4 is the most I offer any service as there is always room to grow. :)
The hospital is a well maintained facility, the doctors are very knowledgeable and good with the animals, the overall staff management however needs work as there is a great deal of inefficiency in the flow from when a patient/owner arrives to when they leave. An appointment to receive a single shot for instance should not take 1.5 hours to complete.
We have been dealing with the Algonquin Animal Hospital for over 13 years now and I am more then happy to recommend them to anyone looking for a vet. Dr. Walker is an amazing person and vet. The techs and desk staff have always been friendly and helpful. They have taken care of 3 pets for us in that time and where amazing when we had to make the hard decision to put our first dog to sleep. Highly recommended.
This is the best vet clinic in Ottawa, hands down! My dog comes home happier and healthier than when he went in, the staff is amazing, and they're very accommodating with small emmergencies and quick questions. Best customer care for dogs AND people!!!
I cannot say enough good things about this hospital. We have been going to Prince of Wales Animal Hospital for years with our cats, and when we got our lab puppy, it was easiest to book an appt at Algonquin instead. Both are owned by Dr. Macintosh and he is truly a godsend. Out of the hundreds of animals he must see every year, he always remembers ours and greets my husband and I like old friends. We got our lab puppy a few days before the province went into lockdown, and thus we have never been able to go into the vet with her. Regardless, she LOVES going to the vet and is so excited to go into the building every time. That should tell you all you need to know about how they treat animals here. During the phone calls for the Covid appointments, the vets are always super communicative and Dr. Macintosh in particular listens to any possible concern we might have, even about training or other concerns that don't particularly have to do with healthcare. The vets here are all very knowledgeable and stay up to date on the latest science and animal health studies, and Dr. Macintosh has talked to us about these studies on many occasions to help us weigh our options when it comes to making a decision. All the vets here inform you of every possible road and the pros and cons of both before letting you make the decision, and only give their personal preference on the matter if asked directly. I trust the staff here completely and never have to worry about what is going on behind closed doors. They socialized my puppy amazingly with vets and continue to provide exceptional care for our two elderly cats. One is 16 and in amazing health, because any health issues she has had are caught and treated early. They work so well with our budget and are compassionate and understanding even when money is tight. I will never take my animals anywhere else. Thank you so much to all the staff here for your hard work and compassion, especially during the Covid protocols! I can't imagine how difficult your jobs have been, and yet you never let it show. You are truly all angels!
Thank you for the amazing experience, Coal was “treated” very well and he appreciated all the attention! He was very pleased and is looking forward to his next visit! Thank you
When it comes to my pets I can only recommend Algonquin Animal hospital for theirs professionalism and advertency. Specifically doctor Kevin McIntosh is the one of a kind. Highly recommended!
Hands-down the best vet clinic I've ever been to. The staff remember my dog from visit to visit, and have always taken such good care of her. They are careful to tell you the cost of everything in advance, and for procedures like surgery or dental they will provide you with a low estimate and a high estimate just so you don't get sticker shock if they have to pull teeth or administer additional medications during the procedure. I always know exactly what I'm getting into and there are no surprises. They are also fine with being contacted by email rather than over the phone, which is amazing for people like me who are partially deaf. The staff have even pulled strings to get me more of my dog's daily medication (which they usually have to order in advance) within 24 hours when our at-home supply spilled and got ruined. I could not be happier with them! I just wish they had the ability to do ultrasound and physiotherapy on-site because the other vet clinic they had to refer me to for those made me miss them tremendously. I recommend AAH to everybody. :)
Dr. Marcuzzi was amazing with my cat Leroy. Leroy can be very shy and anxious around new people. Heck, he hissed at a vet last year. I was shocked when he actually allowed this stranger to pick him up and carry him to another room with no issues. Clearly this vet has a "way" with animals. I was also very appreciative of the fact that he actually spoke to me about my cat's health and habits. Thank you Dr. Marcuzzi!
It's a great place, I would certainly recommend! Staff was very friendly, patient, knowledgeable and accommodating. I'm not a fan of going to a vet in general and was nervous at first since my cats don't do well with new people but it was a very pleasant experience!
I have been taking my cat Brodie to Algonquin Animal Hospital for almost two years. I have had nothing but wonderful care for her while there. Dr. Turnquest and the staff are wonderful. I never feel pressured to buy any products or feel roped into anything. It is a great environment. The front desk staff are very accomodating and always pleasant. I would recommend this hospital to any new pet owners in the city.
I haven't been here in a couple of years as my dog passed away, but feel the need to leave a review because: better late than never! My dog was very nervous at the vet, and my vet before Dr. Walker didn't seem "in tune" with my dog. He didn't try to connect with her and his body language was rigid and cold: it seemed to make her more nervous. When I switched to Dr. Walker it was like night & day. She clearly loves animals and wants to help, as opposed to just being in it for the money. She was very respectful and communicative with my dog throughout appointments, using good body language and tone of voice. When I get another dog I'm definitely going back to her!
They are very fast with appointments and this is my place for my pet for long time. They have good staff and very friendly. Obviously its bit expensive as pets are expensive to have.
I have always been very pleased with the service I received at Algonquin Animal Hospital. When I brought Wheezer into the Clinic Dr. Ha was kind, sympathetic, sincere and comforting. Having Wheezer euthanized was heartbreaking. Dr. Ha was sincerely sympathetic. The note I received from Dr. Catherine Ha touched my heart.
I've been going to Algonquin for over 12 years now for a few cats and a dog. The whole staff is very friendly and accommodating. The vet I deal with (Dr. MacIntosh) is wonderful and always very helpful!
Very good care from Dr McIntosh. Our dog crawled into the doctor's lap while he was examined! Only complaint would be the wait time
Used to love this place. We had perfect service until the young trainee tried to tell us our dog was 25 pounds overweight just a few weeks after we were told (in writing) that she was only 5-7 pounds overweight. The obvious aim was to scam us into buying into some weight loss program. Total trust lost in this establishment after that. Our pets are now being taken care of elsewhere, where there are no corporate-sponsored money grabs aimed at their clients.
Tried calling to get cat food, and see how the place was since it's closer to my home then where I used to go. The lady literaly told me they only to clients and refused to sell me catfood. I was trying to become a client and they just turned me away. Weird buisness model if you ask me.
I’ve been to a few vets over the years and the prices here are definitely the best. Their service is excellent as well. They’re always booked up since they’re so good though so call in advance!
Dr. Mac and Dr. Walker are knowledgeable, kind and always take the time with the furpeople and us owners. Front staff are efficient and friendly.
Brought my cat in for dental surgery. Everything went smoothly, and my cat is recovering nicely. The vet as well as the technicians were very informative and answered all of my questions.
We have been taking our pets to AAH for years. Being an allergy sufferer I find the facilities quite clean. The waiting room has a half wall devider which is great for pets who might be anxious or excitable as it creates a safe space to wait for appointments. The front staff are always friendly and helpful. We have also had great experiences with the vets and their techs. Of course there is also the vet clinic mascot cat who roams freely and will come to say hi. I highly recommend AAH and will continue to be a loyal client.
Dr McIntosh provides stellar care for my cats, he is extremely thorough and cares for his feline charges, highly recommend this clinic, never had a complaint in over 7 years.
This place is more interested in your money than the well being of your pet. Went in with a specific issue that needed dealing with and the vet treated it like a checkup for a car and handed me an estimate for work I didn’t need done right away. I never received an estimate for what I went in for and had to follow up with reception several days later. I was provided a ridiculous price and it was way more expensive than the vet led on during the check up. Fast forward to this month when the issue became an emergency situation and I had to take my dog to another vet for last minute surgery. Not only was the surgery a third the cost of the Algonquin estimate, it was also done on the spot during the time of the appointment I booked. Save yourself the heartache and stress and go to a more caring clinic
When we first started bringing our three dogs here, they were great. But the service has recently declined, especially since the pandemic started. Due to their complete lack of caring and money grabbing ways, we recently had to put our dog down. Everything that was discussed in the appointments was completely different than what was written in the appointment details. Many things were listed in the appointment details that were never discussed with us and had they been, our decisions regarding our ailing dog would have been very different. Take your pet elsewhere if you want them to live a good, happy and healthy life. The reception staff is completely rude to their clients then turn around and put it on the owners, stating their dealing with a tremendous stress due to working in a pandemic......my whole family are essential workers and not once have I ever treated any of the people I deal with on a daily basis the way we have been treated here. As well, the owner of this clinic owns a secondary clinic on Prince of Wales, I'd saty clear of that one too. Oh, and I wouldn't be surprised if the office manager (who refuses to take client complaints seriously), responded to my negative review making it seem like we were the problem....as she has with every other negative review. Our dog was put down on November 21st, 2020. The clinic was notified on November 23rd. They have yet to reach out. Disgraceful.
First time came a year ago with my dog for regular vaccination and spent 40 minutes waiting for the doctor. Today I came 8 minutes late and they refused to accept us. Probably will check other places. A good - at least they aren't annoying asking for your pet's poo for the lab analysis as other places :-)
1st., off, I rarely write reviews but Everyone, from the Owner, as well as everyone I have ever interacted with at A.A.H., has been leaps and bounds above amazing, compared to Alta Visa, oops., sorry for the type-O, it's likely because my Visa always seemed to be more important, at our previous Animal Hospital. It really is a night and day comparison between where we used to go, compared to the people, at Algonquin but the warm and friendly attitude of the Girls at the front desk, coupled with the fact that everyone at A.A.H., is noticeably happy, everyone has a big smile on their face and really do whatever they can to be helpful, means we are lifers. We feel like we are among close Friends or Family whenever we have things that need taking care of, instead of dreading, having to go to a Veterinarian, we look forward to our visits, there is no doubt whatsoever, we will be clients for life, this place, is the best you could ever hope for.
Best Vet's in the city, never pushy and only recommend what your pets need to live a great life. I recommend this place for anyone who is looking for a new Vet in town
I have been taking my pets to Algonquin animal hospital since May 1986, so 28 years in all and if they were not the best I would not have stayed with them for so long. For over 26 of those years, Dr.Walker was the Vet taking care of first a sweet cat that I had for 16 years and then my little dog, Shadow. Dr. Walker is missed by many. Dr. Kimberly Turnquest is now Shadow's vet and he is very comfortable in her hands. I know that Shadow will get the same loving and caring from her as he did from Dr. Walker. I would also like to say that the staff are wonderful too. The receptionists, who are the first contact on entering the building, are great. They greet you with a smile and are pleasant and professional. As I one time receptionist, I know that they are doing a terrific job. I am so happy that I have a good and safe place to take my dog when he needs any kind of treatment. Because I know that he will be give the very best of care at The Algonquin Animal Hospital.
I had my first appointment with my cat that I adopted from the OHS about a year ago. The staff was very kind and understanding. The vet I had knew exactly how to properly deal with a timid cat and it made me feel a lot less stressed. She gave great advice and knew what she was doing. They followed up on blood work within hours of having my appointment. I'm so happy I chose to bring my cat here!
One of the best vets I've been to. I usually take my dog here to get his nails trimmed. They always say how he was an angel and didn't put up a fuss at all. It's a little pricey compared to a groomer, but groomers always make him upset and he whines in pain. A check up will run you about $75 not including any shots, etc., but again, always great staff, vets, and service.
I've been taking all my pets to Algonquin for about 10 years. I've always been nothing but pleased with the care Dr Walker has given us and when she is not available the other Drs have also given us great care. We have been there for happy and sad times and I have been just as pleased in both cases.
Was referred to Algonquin Animal Hospital through the Ottawa Stray Cat Rescue. We have been seeing Dr. McIntosh for almost 5 years now, and will definitely continue to do so. He’s so good with the animal, knows exactly how to handle him and very caring. Staff are friendly and excellent, and clinic is very clean!
5+ Stars Dr. MacIntosh is great and your staff is friendly and helpful. Your professional approach to diagnosing my dog really needs to be mentioned. I had brought my dog in for a second opinion on some ongoing concerns. The Dr spent more time getting to know my dog than I had expected. He explained everything to me until he felt I understood the diagnosis as well as our options. It's also worth noting that my dog loves going to visit the clinic. Thank you for helping my dog!
Our experience at this clinic has been poor with the exception of Dr. Walker. The front reception staff, present as cold and judgemental. Communication can be quite poor and sometimes rude. We had three pets served at this clinic and only stayed for Dr. Walker's warm, caring service. However, the rest of the clinic service matters, especially when you have a sick animal. We will now go to another clinic where the overall culture is warm, friendly, and respectful. Dr. Walker is 5 stars. The rest of the clinic makes us walk away.
Finding a great, compassionate and knowledgeable vet is like discovering a hidden treasure. Dr. McIntosh is so wonderful, and I never feel like I'm an atm with him, like I have felt with other vets. He truly cares about your pet, it's why you see so many great reviews.
A little but pricey but exceptional service. I always feel that they are looking out for my pets and they do try to help minimize the cost as much as they can. I have not had any issues with staff and they are always friendly answering my questions.
Dr Alder has been so wonderful to our family! The entire staff at the clinic is also extremely helpful, positive and reassuring. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for top of the line pet care. Dr. Alder has helped my senior pup feel much more like himself. They are honest and upfront about costs, and give you options to choose from. Communication has been consistent as well! I can't say enough good things. Thank you!
They treat you like family and while they try to push for extra stuff, they don't push too hard and respect your decision.
Dr. Walker is a gem who really cares about her patients. I don’t know about most of the other doctors save for one who spent most of the appointment trying to get a number of tests done that would not change the care plan. The front reception staff are generally cold, and the practice manager indifferent and unprofessional. The clinic owner seems to not care about resolving issues between his clients and his staff. The result despite the amazing care provided by Dr. Walker, we are going elsewhere with our animals for care. It is a shame that the clinic, as some reviewers have noted, seems only to care about money and expects that people will just come in. Take your pets elsewhere. One good vet does not make up for a poor staff and indifferent owner.
I went in because my dog was limping. Arthritis was the result. He's about 15, so it's normal. During the exam they found some other maintenance issues. Not as expensive as I thought. They helped my furbaby to continue with his happy life.
Absolutely love this place and the staff! They are so kind and fun to interact with. Also love the kitties that walk around ????✌
Very poor communication between staff and customers. I was given varying answers on pricing and scheduling pet pick-up depending on who I spoke with, and had a surprise charge added to my bill with no apologies or care shown when I asked about it. Next time, I would definitely go somewhere more organized and professional.
Dr. Mac and staff have been great to Casper (the Beagle) over his 8 years. We were at a cottage this past fall and noticed, after our return, a tick on Casper's eye. I thought I would have to go to emerg but they took us in right away and removed 7 ticks that were unseen to me. I nearly cried when I was given the bill - it was fractions of what I expected! My co-workers are in disbelief. I have been with Algonquin for nearly 20 years and there has been nothing but compassion when we have had to put our past friends to rest. Great staff, superior care and compassionate prices. Never a pushy sales pitch what-so-ever.
I was very worried after my Cooper was throwing up but Doctor MacIntosh and the staff took care of him. Doctor MacIntosh is a delightful person and puts your mind at ease. Thank you.
We just had our Cairn Terrier neutered at Algonquin animal hospital. The service was fantastic as always. The doctor called right after the surgery to let us know how things went and to answer any questions. Pre and post operation a Veterinarian technician spent time with us going over the surgery and recovery process, she was very helpful and thorough. We are very happy with the experience and have total confidence in Dr. McIntosh and his staff. A big thank you to all.
Dr. Marcuzzi is clearly a cat loving person, not just a doctor. From the moment he entered the room, he was ever so careful to make my cat Frost feel safe, loved and comfortable. He made suggestions. Some I took, a couple I declined for now, but he was never pushy. I also always find the staff at Reception helpful and friendly. I am happy I chose Algonquin for Frost.
This was my first time taking my cat Eggroll to have surgery. The staff here are very kind. The always let me know how he was. Also made sure I had what I needed once I brought him home.
I always find the staff friendly and knowledgeable. My cats come to Dr Macintosh and I find him most supportive and empathetic.
I have been a client of Algonquin Animal Hospital for nearly 30 years!! Dr. Stewart has been the primary vet for all my dogs during this time. I cannot say enough good things about the Hospital and especially Dr. Stewart and Dr. MacIntosh!!! Yes, pets are expensive to have, and none of us like the costs involved in keeping our "loved ones" happy and healthy. I have never had a bad experience with Algonquin Animal Hospital or either Dr. Stewart or Dr. MacIntosh. They are kind, caring and compassionate. My two little ones love them both!! I would never take my kids anywhere else!!!!
We have been taking our cats to the Algonquin Animal Hospital for more than ten yrs. The care they recieve from Dr. Walker and the staff has always been excellent. Dr. Walker is very knowledgeable, experienced and friendly. I have two cats with special needs and I wouldn't trust their care to anyone else.
This is the best Vet's office I have ever been to (and I have been to several Vet. offices since I move a lot). Their Receptionists and Vet. Techs are awesome - professional, organized, and respectful. Their Vets are also awesome. My dog's Vet is Dr. Sparks and he is honestly the best Veterinarian. He performs a thorough examination and takes the time to explain everything he has checked in immense detail. He will not rush you and he will think about and answer every question in great detail as well. He is so friendly and knowledgeable. Although I only moved to Ottawa for a short amount of time, I am considering not moving from Ottawa because of the great Vet. services provided by Dr. Sparks and the team at this great office. Honestly the best Vet's office I (and my dog) have ever been to.
I have had only positive experiences at the Algonquin animal hospital. I have been going there for over 18 years with different pets and have never been disappointed with the service I received while there. All the doctors as well as staff are very knowledgeable and caring. I would recommend the Algonquin animal hospital to everyone.
New to this vet (just moved from Toronto), I had a unpleasant experience from the front staff. I was unable to get an appointment in a reasonable time frame (5 Days wait) for my dog who needed a refill of her medication which ran out that night, (Friday). She had been on this medication for pain due to arthritis for over two years now. Her medical records had already been sent to Algonquin Animal Hospital. The only options they gave me was an appointment in 5 days or find another vet who could get me in sooner. The Business manager and other lady and the front desk showed no compassion or caring that my Dog would be without her pain pills. I went to another vet who gave me an appointment the next morning. This vet will be taking care of my Dog, who I feel will care for her.
Amazing team that works here. The staff are absolutely the kindest and most caring people. They treat your pet as if it's their own. There's always an appointment when I need it. I've seen the majority of the vets and they're all amazing. what I really like about them in particular is that they give you all of the options, are very upfront about everything and support the decision you believe is the best (as long as it's safe for the pet, obviously). I feel comfortable asking any question, even if it might be silly. I've never owned dogs before, and they've helped me raise two beautiful healthy pups. I can't say enough great things about these guys :)
We always receive the best care here. They make every visit pleasant. They are kind caring and professional
They simply are the worst just money grabers who dont care. They refused to see my dog when she is ill even though she has only ever gone to them stating that covid were only seeing our recent patients. The receptionist was extremely rude and didnt seem to even care that my dog was sick (someone doing her job should learn to show empathy). Thanks for nothing. Please nobody ever take your animal here you can do so much better. Now the owner has the audacity to come on here and reply stating that they are booked solid. The receptionist told me flat out that it had been too long since we had been there and we could not be seen as a result. She made no mention of being booked solid ever on the call. The the owner goes on in his coments to make it appear as though i was harrasing an employee this simply shows the unprofessional nature in which they operate. All I wanted was to have my dog seen by her vet she has gone to since she was a puppy. Sad that someone who is supposed to be caring for animals chooses to run a business so poorly.
During a difficult time, they were very compassionate and caring.
I know my cat is in good hands.
Only go elsewhere in an emergency, and only office's related to Algonquin. Dr. Walker and the rest of the staff treat my dogs the same way they treat their own. The best!!
I have been taking my pets to Algonquin Animal Hospital for over 23 years, and I will continue to go there, even after moving quite a distance away from the site. My first cat was 19 1/2 years old when he died, and I have also been taking my present cat there for the past three years, since she was a kitten. Dr, Walker has always been our attending vet., and I think she is not only an outstandingly competent practitioner, but she is also an extremely caring and compassionate person. She always makes me feel better once I have spoken with her! Thanks also to all of the staff at Algonquin Animal Hospital. I have always been treated promptly and in a professional manner whenever I have to call for an appointment, etc. I would highly recommend your facility to anyone who is looking for a veterinarian.
New to area and initially contacted Algonquin for their boarding services for the cat I had recently adopted; however, I quickly learned that there is a great team of caring vets and assistants. They are now my go-to for all vet services.
We had an excellent visit with both dogs. The vet was patient and informed, and the staff very welcoming.
Amazing staff, everyone wanted to love the dog even though he isnt good with strangers. The vet and assistants were all good with animals
Wonderful and attentive front desk staff, techs, vets - just everybody. They really care about both the animals and the people who bring them. Have brought both my two cats in since I got them two years ago, and I will continue to do so, even though it's definitely not the closest vet to me - which just goes to show how much I like them!
Well my dog Lilly felt very comfortable and seemed happy after her visit. She is a very good judge of character I trust her judgement. So we will definitely continue going to this veterinarian. I would recommend this place to everyone. Very clean and staff was friendly, pleasant and patient enough to explain all procedures. Made me feel assured.
I was not happy at all with new vet. He was arrogant, rough, unkind, and unfriendly with our dog.
I have been a client of Algonquin Animal Hospital for 35 years. Four cats and one dog over the years. I have always experienced excellent service and compassionate care, from both the doctors and the front desk staff. Very happy with this clinic.
I called a couple of times and was treated like garage! I was in distress about my pet and on a couple different occasions Ronda and Tama both disregarded my concern and were very lacking in help and compassion! Clearly hate their job. Luckily I found Lynnwood Animal Hospital, they were absolutely amazing!
I have been a client of Algonquin Animal Hospital since 1984. My first pet was well cared for there and eventually put to sleep there. My next pet, Australian Shepherd, again was well looked after by the staff there. Then as he aged and experienced health issues, Dr. Walker took him on as her patient and worked diligently to help him with his health. Dr. Walker wanted to be there to ease our best boy to sleep when the time came. I have another Aussie Shepherd mix who is a patient there. For me and my pets, Algonquin cares.
We have been clients of Algonquin Animal Hospital since 1999. Even though we have moved away from the area, we refuse to change where we get our veterinary care because of the exceptional service we have received the years. Dr. McIntosh is an amazing vet. He is always very knowledgeable (and up to date in his knowledge) and very thoughtful and conscientious pursuing any treatment required (no unnecessary and stressful tests or procedures for our pets and no unnecessary expenses for us). All of the staff that we have dealt with over the years have been very professional, warm, friendly, loving and caring towards both our pets and us. There is a beautiful, warm, caring spirit in the building because of all of those who work there which you can feel when you walk into the building. In the last 3 years we have boarded our 17 year old cat, Zoe, whenever we are going to be away and have come back to find her very happy and relaxed at this facility to the point that she isn't upset and distressed we she sees us. It has given us great peace of mind to know she is very well cared for by all the staff! We highly recommend this facility for veterinary care!!!
Service was great and vets and staff very helpful. Best of all my cat had no problem when checked over and receiving her shots.
Amazing staff, we truly feel like they care about our pets.
I have been a client of Dr. Walker at Algonquin Animal Hospital for over 10 years. She has provided excellent care to my 3 cats, my son's dog and now my new dog. The staff are also very friendly and extremely helpful.
Between my wife and I we have taken two dogs in a row, that's almost 30 years of care that they have provided. The pricing was a little uo there but the service was good. When our last puppy got sick at the age of 14 we called to get some help and was refused any kind of help by Tama the manager. She just said we can't see him we are to buzy'. We took him else where and had him looked at. We tried to call the manager back but she was to buzy. 5 day later we had to put him down yet again with another vet. They call Algonquin animal to get some some information about our puppy. They knew what we were doing and have still not heard from them. We called Dr Walker twice and was told she would call up to 48 hours later. It is now at least 72 hours. Still nothing. 30 years,God knows how much money and not even a call,e-mail or text to say sorry for your loss. We went there regularly with him. This is a disgrace. I have no respect for them anymore and would never recommend them
You cannot get better service in Ottawa or even Eastern Ontario than Algonquin Animal Hospital. We have had our German Shepherd here since we had her at 8 weeks and every step of the way we have been given the best possible care for her. Of especial note was her operation in January where most Vets would have given up and let the pet die but Dr. McIntosh and Dr. Ramatour and the well honed team performed above and beyond saving her life ! My family owes a great deal to the experienced and dedicated staff at Algonquin and send a well deserved "pat on the back" - keep up the great work you do . Sincerely, Stuart Busat
Reviewing for my 88 year old mom who adopted a cat called Dexter two years ago. Mom's past pets have always been cared for at Algonquin and she would not think of taking them anywhere else. She loves seeing the clinic cat and talking with the friendly staff when we take Dexter in for his nail trims. She says thank you for your caring hands over the years!!
I have been a client for many years and through various pets. Recently a problem arose that was unusual and difficult. Throughout the months it took for my pet's health to improve I consistently felt that all of the staff were rooting for me and trying to help manage a difficult and unusual situation. I really felt like I had a whole team to help my pet and it was very reassuring. Everyone cared about the progress we were making and everyone was flexible about appointments. I have also found that potential problems are identified early and treatment suggested to alleviate symptoms. I have absolute trust in the treatment and advice I receive at Algonquin.
Amazing team at Algonquin Animal Hospital. I have trusted them completely to look after my fur babies for 30 years. All are kind, take the time to listen to your concerns, give great advice and truly care for you and your pets. I can't imagine taking my dogs anywhere else
The front desk staff were so courteous and so polite. They were always positive and smiling, which made the office feel very welcoming. Dr. McIntosh is always fantastic. He’s always so knowledgeable, courteous, sympathetic and easy going. He never makes me feel rushed, and always takes the time to explain things thoroughly. This is by far the best vet I’ve ever been to. I am beyond grateful to have found Dr. McIntosh and his team. I couldn’t be more lucky to have my dog see such an honest and knowledgeable veterinarian clinic.
Dr. Walker takes the best care of my dogs and schedule always permits for great appointment times. Very reasonably priced as well!
We have been using the services of Algonquin Animal Hospital for almost 20 years. At the beginning we had a cat and saw Dr. Stewart, then a Westiepoo and currently a Shibi. We consider Dr. Diane Walker to be the best vet in town. She is warm, friendly and extremely competent. At least 2 of our friends also use Algonquin and love it. The administrative staff at the clinic are amazing, so efficient and friendly. Our pets are treated with the utmost kindness and when the time came for our beloved Westiepoo to leave us, Dr. Walker helped us get through the experience with great care and empathy. We love Algonquin and recommend it highly.
Monty doesn't like going to the vet, but he is always treated with kindness and love. From the reception staff to the techs and vets, we feel the care for him.
We have four pets, and I trust Dr. Kevin MacIntosh and the other staff at AAH completely to give me the best possible advice. They remember just about everything about our animals (and us) and I consider them to be extended family. You really can't do any better than to trust AAH with your pet care needs.
Dr. Jen took great care of my kitty. He's usually afraid of other people, but she was calm and soothing, and he was a perfect gentleman with her.
This place is so well run! From the technicians to the vets everyone knows their job and knows it well! Dr. McIntosh is amazing at what he does and we couldn't ask for a better Vet! Definitely a great place of you're looking for transparency and honesty.
My beautiful Golden Retrieve Abbie has been looked after by the caring and professional staff at the Algonquin Animal Hospital for 3 years now. I wouldn't change a thing.
i had my first puppy, and i was looking for a vet hospital near me. Algonquin vet hospital was the best option i could pick, here the staff is very professional and friendly, they treated emoji like part of the family to the point i thought emoji wasnt mine anymore hahahaha... Dr Sparks also, very friendly, lots of knowledge and professional, he helped me and coach me very well, and explained to me stuff so i could understand. Emoji and i will keep coming here, we are very happy (GOLD STAR) For everybody.
We've been coming to this vet clinic for many years with many pets. The staff are very caring and helpful, with special kudos to Dr. Diane Walker.
Dr Mackintosh provided wonderful and compassionate care for my old Labrador. Unfortunately he was away when the time for the end came, so my dog was put to sleep at home by another vet. Some time later Dr Mackintosh must have heard about it. He sent me a carefully chosen card of condolence. So here you will receive caring care during your pet's life, and afterwards.
The care is a bit expensive, but Dr. Marcuzzi seems to genuinely care about the welfare of the animals under his care. They did charge for everything, but he let us know thoroughly how much before hand, and did come in slightly under what he had quoted us. Dr. Marcuzzi also asked us to call him to let him know how our cat was doing, and even called us on his own time to make sure everything was alright and to offer further suggestions for care. I can't speak for any of the other vets, but there is at least one vet who really goes above and beyond to take care of his patients.
I have been seeing Dr MacIntosh for about 6 years now for my two cats and more recently have had helpful from Dr Sparks for my Bengal cat. They have both been tremendously helpful and generous with their time. I love that doctor MacIntosh gives me options and I don’t feel any pressure to choose one over the other. I highly recommend them.
I recently got a puppy and only live a 5-10 minute walk away, so I figured this would be a good first option for my first fur baby purely due to location. When I called to book her first appointment they were very quick to fit Coco in the same day. Upon our arrival Coco was greeted with smiles and lots of love, and all of the staff was friendly and helpful. A very positive first vet experience to keep me wanting to go back!!
Compassionate, friendly care from true animal lovers. I drive all the way across town to keep them as my vet clinic.
I have been using this veterinary clinic for years and have appreciated the excellent level of care and compassion my pets have received. The vets have taken time to research my pet's symptoms, consult specialists, and outline our options in a way which respects my choices, my pet's comfort, well-being, and life expectancy, and my available funds. I am very satisfied.
Thoroughly impressed by the care our pet received at this clinic. Within an hour, they had explored more possibilities regarding why our animal was sick than the vets at VCA did while keeping him for over 24 hours. Most importantly, they did it for literally a quarter of the price and our cat has seen better results! The vet we saw, Dr. Ramoutar, was the epitome of friendly while maintaining a very obvious professional demeanor. In appreciation of her work done, I have prepared an acrostic poem to describe her as a veterinarian. D - darn, she did good work. r - really good veterinarian. R - really, really good veterinarian a - awesome doctor. m - man, that's a good vet. o - oh my goodness, that was affordable. u - utterly impressive. t - top notch doctor. a - again, really good vet. r - really, really, really good veterinarian.
We have used Algonquin, and their sister clinic for YEARS. They always treated our animals as individuals, and when we had 2 emergencies in two weeks with two different pets, they definitely worked to keep costs down for us. Their vet tech who does weight control is a little bit aggressive with weight loss goals. When we had our consultation with her, she said that our dog should weigh what she did when she was 5 months old. The vet said that she needed to lose 1-2 pounds. The tech said 8-10 pounds. That's a HUGE difference on a dog that is starting at 19 pounds (at 4 years old). We decided to go with the vet's recommendation, and not do their weight loss program. That was the only time that I ever felt like this clinic was just trying to sell us something (their diet formula food). For these reasons, they are losing one star.
DO NOT take your pet here. To briefly explain, my cat had an emergency situation and needed what was quoted at a $2000.00 surgery. Did not have those type of funds on hand-asked to make payments-they would not negotiate. Said only euthanize or surrendering was an option- since I could not afford $2000.00 upfront then and there. I surrender and come to find out there are supports that could have helped me that they neglected to tell me about. Try and get my cat back and they say within 48 hours someone came with the money and adopted him. NOT PLEASED! very inconsiderate and cruel animal hospital.
If you're putting your pet down, don't expect any type of compassion from the front desk staff member by the name of Tama. It's amazing to me how insensitive someone can be to someone who is about to put down their dying dog. Losing my best friend was hard enough and she made it 10 x harder by her poor attitude and lack of COMPASSION . Shame on you. The only reason we continued to take our dog to Algonquin was for Dr. Mcintosh. If I adopt another dog I will be going somewhere else. I'd give this place 0 stars if I could. Perhaps train your staff on the covid protocol as well. It's almost October.. UPDATE: I called Monday morning at 8:30 am and I am assuming Dr,Mcintosh was not given my message. (I wa told he was not in until 2pm) I never received a call.
Great service. Attentive and helpful staff. Dr. McIntosh is amazing. Very knowledgeable and loves animals.
We have been relying on DR. Walker and the Algonquin Animal Hospital for over 15 years and have been entirely satisfied with the services received. The staff and veterinarians have always been very knowledgeable and friendly. We entrust the health and well being of our dog and three cats to this knowledgeable and professional team.
If you are moving your pet from another clinic don't bother transfering your records over the people won't even look at them and constantly suggest things that that you've already tried with previous vets or specialists. Had multiple medication issues , one time charging us for them and not even ordering them until a week later when we called to ask about them. You will constantly see different Vets and none of them seem to share information. It takes the clinic an hour to do a simple injection once they take the animal to the back not counting the wait time. Would definitely not recommend them one bit
Always get first class care for Luigi. Everyone is professional and knowledgeable. They are caring and it shows in their approach to their work. We always get an appointment when we need one.
Incredible staff, from front to back; friendly, caring and compassionate. We've been with Dr Walker for over 20 years and 5 cats, she has consistently gone above and beyond for us and our our furry family. We're so looking forward to being able to get back to face to face visits. Best clinic in town, IMO.
I’ve been going here for 5 years with my dog and now with my puppy. The whole staff is amazing, I would recommend Algonquin animal hospital to everyone!
Love the staff at Algonquin animal hospital. My dog has been battling allergies for years and they always make each visit as stress free and easy as possible for both me and my dog. They genuinely care about his well being, and are encouraging and efficient. Together we always find a solution. I know my baby is in good hands with Dr.MacIntosh.
Honestly, this is more than a 5 star rating. The amazing team at Algonquin Animal Hospital time and time again continue to go above and beyond for my dog, Elvis. Ever since he came home with us, he's been getting himself into trouble. Every single time, the team works together with us to find a solution that is effective and budget conscious, even calling to follow up and see how he is recovering. They've been so good to us and I would 11/10 recommend them to anyone looking for a vet who is caring and inquisitive.
After having dealt with other vet hospitals found this extremely efficient and dedicated animal hospital... so very happy. Very impressed with Dr. Sparks... so very thoughtful and willing to explain and give you time to ask questions... thank you to the entire staff... kudos to each one of you!
I know vets are money grubbers but this takes the cake! My puppy was 1 week overdue for her third distemper shot and they told me we would have to start all over again. Ok, so your REALLY don't want my business. Bye!
Dr McIntosh is fantastic with our cats. He truly loves what he does and is very patient with our questions. I would highly recommend him and this clinic!
I recently adopted a shih tzu 7 year old rescue dog, I also wanted to have her fully checked up and life style vaccines give, and a Animal Hospital close to home and decided to go with Algonquin Animal Hospital on Baseline. Booking appointment was easy, first visit was welcoming and efficient, and Kahula had a chance to check out the place and meet other dogs. Dr. Rebecca was gentle and answered all my questions. Kahlua was relaxed, but happy when she was off the table and back down to her level. First impression, excellent and lived up to expectations. We will be back.
Great service, efficient... and all during the Covid-19 Pandemic. Last year they were there and today, they stood up to the test, by be i g there to answer and see my Max in no time. the only reason I can't give 5 stars is because , my dog is, or I'm kind of new to dog owning. and I'm not sure , or rather it's taking some getting used to paying for a vet and of course a few other things I may have suggested in the past that I haven't verified if implemented on their website. but excellent reception today. thank you
Devon the “manager” has some serious attitude. Very unpleasant to deal with; would benefit from customer relations training. She would not even tell me if they can perform a surgery, instead kept on insisting that I have to come in and pay for a consult. Why would I pay 90$ for a consult if I already know my pet needs the surgery from another vet office and not even guarantee they can do it!
I recently had to have a difficult discussion with Dr. McIntosh regarding my senor dog Pal's quality of life and Dr. McIntosh was so knowledgeable, kind understanding, compassionate and helped me with my decision about his future. I'm happy to say that Pal is still alive and well and each day he is alive is a gift! I would like to thank him so much for his professionalism and kind bedside manner! Thanks very much to Dr. Verbickas and Dr. Sparks as well for prescribing Pal with the antibiotics that helped him! I would highly recommend Algonquin Animal Hospital to all the pet lovers out there!
I love this place.Everyone is nice and friendly. My dog loves everyone here.We have been coming here for four years. They will light a candle so everyone will respect that a family is paying their respects to their beloved pet
My cats are relatively new clients ( I received my first cat in April, 2015 and my 2nd cat Dec 22, 2015) and I have had a very positive experience with the Algonquin Animal Hospital. All staff are pleasant, helpful and seem genuinely caring of animals. My first cat has stayed 2 nights in the "Presidential Suite" while I was away, which worked out very well. I am a new cat owner and any questions I have had have been answered by staff.
!!!!!!!!DO NOT BRING YOUR PET HERE!!!!!!! It seems that the staff is more concerned about the money than the health of my cat. My cat has an eye infection and I planned to go there this week for a checkup. The women on the phone informed me (saying due to COVID) that I had to pick between my two vet clinics because it was an inconvenience for them to have to continue to transfer my cats file and they prefer clients who are consistently coming to them. However! if it concerns my cats health and the other clinic can’t get me in until next Friday, yes of course i am going to call YOUR clinic that she’s been to before to get her in earlier? However, your receptionist didn’t seem to care very much at all about my pets health and that’s all the information I really need when choosing a veterinary clinic.
I am normally not one to write a negative review but I feel I need to warn people to steer clear of this vet clinic. First, they should let you know that you must wait in your car until they are ready for you. I wasnt told this at the time of booking and was given attitude when I first arrived and tried to enter the clinic. It’s covid, and I get it but they really shouldn’t be rude when I was not informed of this ahead of time. I arrived the next day to pick up my dogs medication and food. When I got home I realized that I had someone else’s bill. I called back to let them know and make sure I didn’t pay for someone else's pet. I hadn’t, they had just mixed up the bills. Fine. No big deal. I then took a look at the quote they had provided me and it was for yet another persons pet. I called back again. The receptionist put me on hold for a while and when she came back on she said that I had the right quote. I said that’s not possible because the name, address, dogs name, breed etc was not correct. She finally said that she would get the dr to send it by email. Eventually we received the correct one. Two weeks later I called to make a follow up appointment. I was put on hold for a long time (again…it’s covid and things move slowly), however, someone picked up and said hello and when I responded they hung up. I called back, waited again and finally made the appointment. An hour later they called back to say that I would need to pick up some medication that I had to administer prior to my dogs appointment. So the next night I called and said I was on my way to pick up the meds…it was close to their closing time and the receptionist seemed annoyed. When I arrived she asked if I had paid for it. I said no because it was part of the quote and I didn’t realize that I would have to pay for the treatment before I even dropped her off. I had driven over without my wallet because I was under the impression I was just picking up some medication. I said that I wish someone had of told me that when I called. She responded “I didn’t realize that I would have to explain to someone that when you take something you have to pay for it” in a tone that was so rude I actually couldn’t believe someone would speak to another person like that. It was now 5min to close so there was no time for me to drive home to get my wallet. I asked what I was supposed to do since my dog needed to take the medication the night before her appointment. She shrugged her shoulders. At that point I swore under my breath (not at her) simply out of frustration. She told me that I needed to leave and slammed the door. This was over a $20 medication, after I spent $600 the week before and I was about to drop another $360 the next day. All that being said, the vet was great. It is very unfortunate that the receptionists are so unprofessional and rude. There are many amazing vet clinics in the Ottawa area. Learn from my experience and go somewhere that is more organized and competent.
My family and I have been taking our pets to Algonquin Animal Hospital for almost 20 years now. Dr Walker has and continues to be an amazing veterinarian who goes above and beyond for her patients. She is so meticulous in her work and always strives to make both the clients and their pets have positive experiences while at the clinic. The front desk staff are always so nice and help break down the bill for us. Thank you for such great service!!
Very friendly and competent. And Dr. McIntosh is the best!
