The best care you could ask for. Our Sphynx was sick and ultimately took a turn for the worst. They were compassionate and caring every step of the way, including when we had to make end of life decisions for him. This was so beyond difficult and heartbreaking. With all of the time they took with us and my support animal, they went above and beyond to make sure we were as ok as possible. Thank you for your care given to my baby.

Had to bring our cat in for emergency treatment on Christmas day. The staff were so wonderful. They kept us in the loop, gave our cat amazing attention and best of all we got to bring him home. So thankful for these amazing people who gave up their Christmas to take care of animals in need. Cannot say thank you enough.

The VCA Canada Ottawa Team provided emergency care for our family pet (family member) in the last hours of his life. Pogo, our 14 year old Jack Russell Terrier was provided with serenity and dignity by everyone on the Team. We, my wife and I, were cared for too—patience, guidance, empathy and understanding. We are sincerely grateful for their thoughtful and professional care today.

We ended up here at 10pm for our Beagle. Unfortunately we had to put down our13 year old beagle because he had aggressive cancer. We didn't even know he was that sick. But VCA vet was so helpful, quick service, and very comforting for our situation. Thank you very much VCA Vet.

Don't expect help from them unless your pet is on the verge of death. Open 24h? Odd since I was unable to come in for help. Telling me to go and call my vet isnt helpful, and telling me can't take more patients when you're open 24h makes no sense. Thank you for not helping me at all, not taking my call seriously and asking no followup questions. Next time I'll make sure to not call you since I now understand that you will be of no help. Next time I recommend being nicer and actually listening regardless if you believe it's an emergency or not, since for others it may feel like it. Maybe ask how long it's being going on for? Maybe if the pet is eating ? Idk maybe anything other then go somewhere else since that's unhelpful and not useful.

Very impressed with this initial visit - an emergency for my beloved kitty. Response has been immediate and she'll be with them for 48hrs at least. And I'm totally okay with that, even though we've never been there before. So nice to move here from the West Coast and immediately feel so comfortable and confident leaving my Lovey there.

In summary: Dissapointing for emergency appointments. Our puppy ingested something he shouldn't have and we only had a 2 hour window to get him to throw up before digestion and blockage began. The vet didn't bring him in immediately so we had to take matters into our own hands. If you want your dog to throw up buy Hydrogen Peroxide 3% from the drugstore for $6 and use a turkey baster. Save yourself the time and money! Long version: 10:20pm our puppy ingested a plush squirrel tail, he chewed it off at the base and ate the tail whole. We drive 20 min here and are on the phone with their receptionist at 11pm. Remember we have until 12:20am. While we're waiting we research things on our phones and find out there's an at home method (hydrogen peroxide 3%), a fantastic article from the AKC. We wait for the phone call but time is ticking so at 11:40pm we make the decision to drive to the 24-hour Shoppers and then back home. We get in the door at 12:03am and the hydrogen peroxide is in his mouth a few minutes after. Around 12:20am he throws up the squirrel tail!!! Can't believe how easy and effective that was. Since he last ate around 6pm we gave him a bit of kibble so that his body could throw something else up. Worked like a charm. If something is THIS time sensitive we should have received a call saying they can't serve us in time and/or telling us the hydrogen peroxide method. Instead we got a long wait time. In fact I'm writing this at 1:30am (same day) and we still have not received a call. We didn't even tell them we left so they think we're still in line....extremely disappointed in the lack of consideration for our specific situation.

I brought my 17 yrs old cat there, I knew after the first interaction with the staff then the doctor that I should have brought my cat there months ago when his health problems started first time, instead of to Prince Of Wales Animal …

I was referred to VCA Ottawa by a friend who had been through the process of putting down a pet. The time had come for my elderly cat, and I wanted to ensure that the procedure would be done in a professional and caring environment. The wonderful employees helped educate and provided me with various options. I was contacted via phone throughout the whole process, and was provided a sense of closure at the end. The veterinarian and staff truly made this difficult process that much easier. Thank you so much!

This location has an exceptional and compassionate team of experienced vets. I will never forget the over the top care Foxy had on her last days especially from Dr. Guay. After Foxy passed I am overly anxious about my dogs health. Once I expressed my concerns they went over and above to make sure we were both comfortable, and never made me feel stupid for being so concerned over a routine operation. Nolah spent the night there after her spay and they even sent me picture updates. Nolah has a very clean tiny scar and is healing well, we were sent home with medication with detailed instructions. Also there was very little wait time from booking to operation day. Highly recommend.

My cat recently had an abscess in one of her teeth. VCA took such good care of her and of us as inexperienced but overly dramatic cat "owners". I'm so grateful to them for saving her with just antibiotics so we didn't have to discuss surgery :)

First of all, I took my precious cat Luka here on December 1st due to unusual weight loss and slight muscle weakness in his lower body, he was having difficulty supporting himself with his legs to stand properly. I was spoken to who I am supposing was a vet tech named Dr. Donnelly who I informed I may have financial difficulties after she informed me of the bill of seeing him since they didn't know his physical status, and required to have him for more than one night. After I had informed her of this she just brushed his condition as best to be euthanized. I spoke to her the next day and was again advised he wasn't worth keeping alive, and should put down, I asked to be given some time to consider and call them at a later time. At this point I was able to speak to an extremely kind and empathetic vet, Dr. Schroeter, who informed me my cat was optimistically alert and aware enough to be given the chance of at home care. I was able to prolong his life comfortably, and give myself a chance to spend even a small amount of time with him before his untimely passing. From that time I experienced unprofessional and curt phone experiences with staff just to get refills of medicine, as well as answers to concerns I had. I went back to this clinic on January 9th, alarmed that he was giving me signs he was in too much pain to continue. I was seen by a woman named Emily who was kind, but more interested is showing us aftercare options of urns and cremation vs home burial. Our designed person to give Luka his final fluids never introduced herself, just informed us she would start his process of being euthanized. After uncomfortable moments of watching her inject fluids into him and her informing me it isn't painful, I watched in horror as he went from sitting up to falling over at an alarming speed, eyes still open, but his breath has stopped. I didn't inform them that this was my first experience having an animal put down, but to experience such trauma after coming to this clinic in hopes that I was relieving him of his earthly pain is indescribable. The only reason I even give this clinic a modest 2 star is for Dr. Schroeter, who was extremely caring and optimistic about my cats health and well-being, and for the continued care outside of only his physical condition. I had overheard from some employees at this location of his attentive care to Luka, which was extremely heartwarming as the pet owner to hear. Thank you again Dr. Schroeter, if you do see this review. I'm so extremely thankful of your care of my Luka in his final days.

A brilliant, hardworking and compassionate team. It can take some time for them to get to your furbaby if not an urgent or life-threatening emergency, but remember that is because they are treating the other animals in their care with the …

Unfortunately had to put my dog down. They were very helpful and supportive through this tough time. With covid couldn’t be inside when we first brought her they were great answering our million questions. So we could make an informed decision

They take very good care of my dog. They try to give advice to help you on costs. They have a good pet care plan. And my dog trusts them now with nail trimmings( no muzzle). Before no one anywhere could do his nails. Aussie/border collie. He loves them so much he jumped out of car window to see a staff member before leaving the vet. First time ever to jump out. He was leashed. Caught my mom off guard.

Really clean and unlike other emergency hospitals, they do no pressure you at all but instead educate you on your best options and then their professional opinion as to what would be best. I had to bring my cat in three times and they were so genuine that they didnt charge me the third time for an examination. Everyone was friendly and loving towards my pet. They also asked me to bring him during midnight to check him as there would be no charge and I would ahve peace of mind. Highly recommend.

Just wanted to say a huge thank you again to everyone at VCA, what a caring, compassionate and professional team!! It was a really hard moment in my pet's life (rest in peace, my sweet Spicy) and they all went above and beyond for us both. Thank you so much again, Dr Aaron & everyone at VCA, all the very best to you all <3

24/7 emergency hospital. As you would expect with 24/7 medical facilities, there can be a wait time if your pup isn't urgent as there is an emergency based queue during busier periods; however, they will immediately triage your canine family member to give you accurate readings on the animal's vitals and status, provide an admittance timeline, as well as sound advice for those of us who are unexperienced and worried about our canine's random 1am tummy troubles. Although our case wasn't serious, the 1am trip was definitely worth the peace of mind of knowing that we weren't facing something overly serious. The staff was very nice, and we left feeling reassured. If something does happen in the future, we will definitely be taking our pup here in the future.

Worst waiting times and excessive fees. They expect you to WAIT 7 HOURS+++ I arrived at 8 pm, was told 3-4 HOUR wait. Four hours later at 12 AM, I told the receptionist I would like to LEAVE. She assured me I would be next, convinced me to stay, it wouldn't be much longer. It was another HOUR before we saw the vet. Vet did a quick test on the animal, and told me the results would be ready in HALF AN HOUR. Another HOUR went by and my results were still NOT READY. At this point it was after 2:30 AM. 3 AM I had to go, with or without results. I asked for my animal back and to pay the bill so I could go. They would not give me my cat, they would not let me leave. They brought me to a room in the back where they tried to make me wait EVEN LONGER. No one would take my payment. It felt like they were trying to torture me now, I was in tears. I eventually told them they can keep it the cat and I went home. 8 HOURS in this HELL HOLE, turned me off pets forever. I spent about $500 at that visit, for some antibiotics, when BTW they were such LITTLE help to my animal. Then I put my 2 cats up for adoption so I will never be in a situation like that ever again. I miss them I'm but glad I will never step foot in a place like this ever again. Lucky I didn't lose my job over this, the next day because I had no sleep, I was so upset, I was a total basket case, crying at work.

The staff showed so much compassion and love to me and my pet and I will be forever grateful. The system to get in due to covid was a huge hassle but I understand they're doing the best they can.

I have been taking my dogs here for years, and they are my regular vet for annual vaccinations. I have always received top notch service and care for my dogs, except for one visit in which I was very disappointed. I would have given them 5 stars, but for the visit in which I was disappointed. With that said, after posting my previous review here, the office manager, Kelly, contacted me on the phone to inquire about my disappointing visit, and did in fact convince me that I would and should receive better service in the future. Fast forward to today, I took my dog in for her annual vaccinations, and they took us in on time, and provided the same care and service that we were accustomed to receiving. So, I wish I could give 4 1/2 stars, but Google does not allow for half star increments. My one suggestion to the company that now owns this vet hospital....while I understand that you are busy with emergency visits, don't make it difficult to book appointments for regular/annual vaccinations. If you are not willing to provide excellent service as a regular vet, and not just emergencies, customers will find another vet that is willing to provide ongoing regular care, and once a customer leaves, it's not easy to get them back. That goes for any business these days.

We called during the holidays as our puppy had an ear infection. All veterinary offices are closed due to outbreaks so they recommended an ear cleaner and arranged curbside pickup. My previous dog saw a vet at this clinic (Dr Rodgers) and he was wonderful.

Our new puppy had a seizure and we rushed him in. They took him right away to check his vitals. Their calmness helped calm me down. They recommended 24 hour care in case he seized again. Hes currently still with them and doing great. The vet tech called me first thing this morning to give me an update. Im so thankful for them being there to help my puppy.

Rapid decline of our 14yr old kitty on Saturday necessitated euthanasia on Saturday night. Despite being short-staffed due to Covid, etc, we were shown expedience, professionalism and compassion. After calling ahead to ascertain pricing (which was cheaper than our usual vet), we arrived on site, parked and called to let the front desk we were there. Two of us, masked, were allowed to be in the room with kitty. We took care of payment and paperwork beforehand so our exit could be swift. The room had a plastic divider screen between the exam table/ doctor's area and our two seats. Nevertheless, one of us was allowed to stand next to and pet kitty while the doctor administered sedative via a very long catheter from across the room. The doctor showed caring and an interest in our kitty's story and was open to hearing how we wanted things to happen. Even though the whole event lasted less than 30mins and left us heartbroken, it was exactly as we needed/wanted and we are very thankful to both of the staff members we interacted with that night. We asked for ink paw prints to be made and picked them up this afternoon, about two days later. This was our second end of life service with this facility. The first was in 2009.

I brought my dog Levi in at 12:30am Monday December 13th due to a few seizures the previous day. Since this is a very new condition for him, I had no meds at home to help him. The initial vet was Dr. Martinho and I can't express how grateful and appreciative I am for not only how she took care of Levi, how thorough she was in explaining what they were doing and why it was best that he stay there until later that night but also how extremely understanding she was in regards to my REALLY bad anxiety. She wasn't dismissive, impatient or annoyed by the fact. (Thank you!!). They texted me before 7am to let me know how he was doing and called me at 11am to go over medications and discharge information. I picked him up around 7pm that night since the clusters/seizures were under control by medication. They gave me in depth detailed material on his new meds, protocols and home care. The vet tech that was taking care of the discharge was the same person I spoke with when I originally called to get him in. (I'm sorry, I don't recall your name but you are fantastically AWESOME and empathetic, thank you so much for all the time you took to answer my questions). I also spoke with Dr. Armstrong before leaving and she was very kind and understanding as well. As someone with an anxiety disorder and obviously being generally worried and stressed out about what was happening with Levi, I couldn't have asked for a better team! Levi was very tired and happy to be home, but I felt comfortable knowing he had been in the best place possible if he had more seizures that day. THANK YOU all so much, every single one of you; the vets, the vet techs, the people at reception, anyone who comforted or monitored Levi, those I spoke with after he was home with further questions.

Our older family pet, Jackson, was in excruciating pain & in a constant state of seizures on a Sunday morning. I called VCA Veterinary Hospital & they asked me to bring him in asap. When I arrived they triaged him right away. Brandy brought my family into a private room so we could speak to her and shortly, Dr. Ashley Marshall. Jackson prognosis was not good. He was 14 and long story short we never felt rushed and were welcomed to spend as much time as we liked with Jackson before deciding that Euthanasia was the only/best option. I'm tearing up writing this but I have to because I want others to know that we are lucky to have this 24/7 hospital in our City and especially such compassionate people working in the industry. Dr. Marshall made us actually feel better about the terrible decision we had to make. The Hospital made, free of charge, a ceramic paw print and Dr. Marshall sent us the sweetest note of condolence. Thank you so much!

Dr. Halway and all the staff were very reassuring even with the challenges of COVID rules, when we had to bring our cat in for urgent treatment. They provided us with excellent aftercare information, medication and we were much relieved when we took Mr. Socks home. Thank you!

Andy Akangah

took really great care of my puppy and gave me frequent updates. incredible friendly and helpful team. thank you!

I cannot say enough how amazing VCA Ottawa Veterinary Hospital was for us and our beagle pup, Matilda! A special thank-you to Dr. Galway, who we had the pleasure of working with most often over the almost 5 days that Matilda was in + out of care. So extremely kind, thorough and thoughtful of our situation! The staff have so many high-stress situations to deal with — and they always took time to explain everything and make us feel as stress-free as possible. From answering the many phone calls to check on our girl, to texts and pictures about how she was doing — this clinic is just so amazing. Thank you so much for taking such good care of our girl. I will recommend VCA Ottawa Veterinary Hospital to anyone. ????

I just wanted to thank the team for taking care of my cat last night. He is already feeling better thanks to your help. OVH is really well-organized considering all the pandemic restrictions. Everyone I interacted with last night was professional, understanding, and empathetic. When I left my cat with them he was feeling very crummy. When I brought him home I could tell they took good care of him!

I got all the support needed for my dog. They have all equipment necessaryaction in either operation or examination.

DO NOT USE THIS CLINIC!!! My in-laws brought their 6 month old pup in today after thinking he possibly got into something they didn’t see. The pup was lethargic and vomiting, no energy to move. After filling out an online form they proceeded to the clinic 40 minutes from home. When they arrived and called in it took the staff member a long time to find the form that was filled out online and they were told to wait. They waited…they called, form hadn’t gone to the back yet for the technician (1 hour), they waited they called…”it’s busy, you will have to wait” (2 hours), watch people go in and out, in and out…3.5 hours and they accuse my in-laws of not answering their phone 2 hours previously, there was NO CALL!!!!! On the pups 6 month birthday they finally took him into the clinic where he collapsed and his heart stopped!! And where does the blame go??? They blame my in laws, say heat exhaustion!! They magically cannot find the intake form and had NO IDEA what the pup was there for! Very unprofessional staff and should not be labeled an emergency vet if you are going to treat your patients that way!!! A beautiful pup gone because this clinic is too busy to get their stuff together and work as team! ????

Kathtastic Morris-O'Donoghue

Takes way too long and way too much money just to get no tests or answers. The entire industry of animal care, in particular emergency care, is way too expensive. Staff here is fabulous, kind but the overall experience in an emergency is disappointing and too expensive.

Tanya MacCallum

Had to leave my puppy overnight. She was so well taken care of that when they called me to give me an update, my puppy was getting love from a tech and having the time of her life.... didn't seem to miss me at all! Lol …

Cassandra Lavigne

After my pup had seizures we brought him here and the staff and doctor on rotation that night were amazing. They answered all of my questions and tried as best as possible to work with the budget I had. All and all it was a great experience despite what was going on.

Sharon Amos

It's hard to get appointments but will consult on phone and got allergy medicine for my dog. Makes me wish I had pet insurance. Nice people to deal with.

Brianna Boucher

Always takes really good care of my pets, and isn't pushy about expensive care. They always ask before doing procedures or tests to make sure you're ok with it first.

Holly Johnston

I had to bring my girl, Mya, in on an emergency basis early Sept. All of the staff, the front desk staff, the technicians and the DR’s have been so amazing since then. They are so helpful and professional, and they look after your pet, like they are their own. They are truly wonderful and Mya and myself are so fortunate that we found them.

jessica theron

These folks were so amazing with my dog. My dog is a husky with some serious anxiety, so you can imagine how loud he can get in a vets office. The vet was very friendly, and Very calm. My emergency was at 2am, and I’m so glad I came to this location. Highly recommend.

Emily Nesbitt

I brought my cat in for an exam after viewing vaginal discharge. Diagnosed her with Pyometra, insisted on an urgent spay. I found a vet for the surgery on Monday, blood work was good - seemed to have no sign of infection. During operation it turned out to be simply that she was pregnant. Bad diagnosis and very sad outcome.

Lisa Middleton

Much love to VCA Ottawa. I have brought my dog here twice for their emergency service with ongoing seizure activity (she has epilepsy). Their response was thorough, compassionate and reasonable. This week we brought our old guy to their emergency services for ongoing vomiting and rectal bleeding. Dr. Armstrong provided 3 treatment plans including one with euthanasia, which we ended up choosing. Dr. Armstrong and her staff were so compassionate, caring and held space for our old guy and us as Sawyer ran over the rainbow ???? Thank-you for making tough, terrible choices a little easier.

Leslie Robert

Unfortunately our cat became very ill very quickly. We called the hospital desperate for someone to see her. They were able to take her in and assess her condition. While we ender up having to make a very tough decision to euthanize our beloved pet, Dr. Schroeder was kind, compassionate and empathetic through the entire process. He walked us through the steps and was patient with us during a very emotional moment. I can't thank him enough for taking care of our beautiful girl in her last few hours of her life. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Brendan Coffey

The only reason I gave 1 star was because I do not have the option to give zero. Avoid at absolutely any cost. They prey on panicked pet parents and provide mediocre to atrocious service. Our dog had a bad cut on her paw. We brought her in, panicked, at 3pm on a Sunday. Did not receive a call until 12:30 am the next day. They sedated and cleaned our dog’s paw. Did not glue the wound shut. Did not stitch it. They bandaged it and handed her back to us to the tune of $800. The next day her bandage was oozing. We brought her into after hours to have the bandages changed. We were turned away and told she was fine. As recommended, we followed up with our vet 48 hours after the incident, only to find out that: 1. Her paw was never closed; 2. The wound is now infected; and 3. They applied the wrong bandage. Avoid at all costs.

Justin Springer

I wish I never came to this place. Their triage process is based on weight. They put on a facade of an establishment that knows what it is doing, but treat distraught, hurt and panicked people like garbage, and relish in doing so. Don't be fooled by any semblance of competence in this veterinary clinic. There are a large number of glaring problems that are often missed about this place that many wouldn't realize due to the situations that are in. First, they are extremely expensive, and quick to point the finger. Should you request or recommend a payment plan or payment later, they have often been reported as to have called locale SPCA on the owner, for various reasons, but commonly abuse. They have been known to use this as a threat in their tactic to have the pet surrendered. Certainly they must understand that this comes off as money grubbing, and greedy? But, no it does appear as though they work on commission. Next, I have also gathered many outside opinion that their triage is weight based, should you have a pet cat in danger or at risk of death, I have been warned that they prioritize the larger animal, such as dogs, over the smaller animals, such as cats, when administering positions in queue. Personally, I find them rude and disrespectful. They act as though you are an inconvenience to their lives. Many of which seem disinterested in even being there, much less the well being of your animal. I am concerned that they only have a single doctor and nobody on call for being an emergency establishment. Should you go here, I'd recommend not. There are plenty of other establishments that are finer and more passionate about what they do for your animal. Please seek help somewhere else.

Carolyn Bradford

Thank you for taking such amazing care of our Bugsy! It was an emergency and we were very worried. Your night staff were wonderful...Bugsy thanks you!

Steven Robbins

We were very concerned for our fur baby Harley, but it became very clear very quickly that she was in good hands. Dr. Ilacqua and the entire team at VCA were very diligent and caring. Our sincere thanks to you all!

Shauna M.

The wait time was crazy long but it was like that all over the city for some reason. My dog was "triaged" and seen last but went to emergency surgery; which begs the question of how good the triage is. BUT the doctors did a great job with my pup. It's certainly not their fault he has cancer. I give them only four stars mostly because I feel like they took advantage of the COVID days where the dog parent was not in the room. Over the phone the implications of what is happening and the options are not conveyed as well. I feel almost like they knew the $4500 surgery was for nothing but let me go ahead because I didn't fully understand and they didn't have enough time to fully explain.

I arrived at Boyd animal Hospital on 25/11/21 at 9pm. My dog had a grand mal seizure and was still post ictal. I called from my car and said my dog had new onset of seizures. I was told 1st seizures are not treated. No one looked at my dog, I never even got out of my car and I was turned away. Within a short period of time he seized again. This time I went to Alta Vista a competent and caring hospital. As I entered the building they took one look at my dog and ran him into ICU. An IV, O2, meds, BW were started. He had a 3rd seizure before the meds kicked in. I did not need my stethoscope to listen to his chest sounds. He sounded like he had aspirated. In the human setting he would have been RACED because the "golden hour" makes a difference. I mentioned to the vet I had been turned away from one hospital. He replied "seizures are always a medical emergency". Goals of care were discussed, but he never recovered from the 3rd seizure. If Boyd had done what they should have my dog would not have died. He may not have mattered to them, but he did to me. He would have got meds that broke the cycle. The work up was negative for cancer and neurologically clear. I appreciate the exceptional care and speed Alta Vista gave my dog. As for Boyd I think they are disgusting and uncaring. How many other animals have died from their neglect.

Leah Riley

Not impressed with their service. We went in with our young cat and they were pressuring us to keep her there and pay upwards of 5k. Told us if we brought her home she would die that night (she didn't). They had our kitty for 5 hours just to do blood work and give her some saline. They would tell us that they would be done in 20 minutes and we would call and they were not done. We were told that a puppy that came in AFTER our cat, who required immediate care, took their attention. They played with our emotions and were trying to gouge our money. Never going back. If you go there, make sure you get a second opinion elsewhere or someone who has medical knowledge because they play off of ignorance.

They took our very sick and panicked cat in on Christmas Day. They discussed everything they planned on doing and gave the price associated with it. Our cat came back the next day fatigued, but on the right track for healing. They care about post visit care and want to check in on him. I’d recommend them to anyone in the unfortunate situation of having to get their pet taken care of

Susan Sloane

Our second visit to this location and again excellent service. They care about our pet and about us. Great to keep in touch. Staff is friendly. Decent price. Not overcharged. This trip was an over night stay and we were kept informed of every step. This is our top go to for emergency pet service. Only regret is not finding them 7 years ago. Thank you for being top notch and keeping your personal touch.

Mary-Ann Harrison

The staff were kind and conpassionate and the vet kindly worked within budget constraints. I went from being worried that this might be the end for my senior girl, to cuddling with her now, a few days later, watching her recover. Thanks so much for the excellent care and service to my best friend! <3

Louise St-Pierre

The staff were amazing when I had to euthanize my 13 yr old dog in an emergency situation. Very understanding and compassionate.

Zoe Walker

I wish I could give 0 stars, absolutely awful service. I called this morning because my dog had gotten stung by a bee, she then vomited multiple times, her gums were white and she was behaving odd. The receptionist told me this was not an emergency and that it was a normal shock reaction (she compared it to us getting a piercing in our mouth). I then told her I didn't want my dogs throat to swell up and for her to die and she told this can happen and then proceeded to tell me they could not take my dog. I called Eagleson Vet next and they told me that the white gums was a clear sign of an emergency and since they were full they asked me immediately where I was and told me the nearest vet and told me to go there immediately do not call. Eagleson vet never fails to amaze us, they have amazing receptionists, vet techs and vets. AVOID BOYD VET at all costs unless you want someone who is highly uninformed telling you your issue is not an emergency when it clearly is, definitely don't want the lives of your pets in the hands of these people. Not sure what kind of people they are hiring these days, google provides better service. What a joke. Once again horrible place, definitely recommend Eagleson Vet they continue to amaze me with amazing service and they are highly knowledgable, they know how to deal with every issue and provide valuable information. I've been to Eagleson vet a few times before and the same amazing service every time without fail.

Avoid at all cost. They are running a scam. Morally corrupt staff and doctors will prey on desperate pet owners looking for help for their pets. The fees are way too high for simple things. Our cat had a really small scratch and the doctors here were trying to bill us north of $1200 for it. We refused their services and brought our cat home while it's paw was still bleeding. Our local vet booked an appointment for us for $90 bucks and cat's wound was healed in 3 days.

My 16+ year old cat was loosing weight, not eating and generally "fading away". I contacted the Ottawa Veterinary Hospital - the only veterinary hospital open over the Christmas/New Year holiday period - and they took him in right away, …

Top notch service . Our Cat was going to die within the last 24 hours. Dr. Leger and her team deserve tremendous Kudos! The communication by phone and Texts was professional with stressful updates and options. We took the advice from Dr. Leger and her team to which was the best decision we made. We understood that there is always a risk but Mr. Bobo our Cat pulled through. They are sincere and take their work and love for pets to the next level! Thank you!!

This is supposed to be my animals' primary vet for wellness appointments. I recognize that they are also dealing with emergencies, but my dog who has an injury keeps getting turned away because it isn't life-threatening. They refuse to see him as a regular client or as an emergency client. I was told that they couldn't refuse to see an animal brought in on emergency but was turned away after arriving at the hospital and to bring him back if it becomes life-threatening. The vets are great once you are in, but if you can't get your animal seen it doesn't matter how good the care could be.

By far the best emergency animal hospital in Ottawa. Kind, sweet, understanding staff, the vets are all thorough and explain things so well. Had two pets come here so far and I always come away very happy with their services. Best of all, prices are low for the quality of care they provide!! Can’t recommend them enough!!

Do not go here. Terrible service. My mom took our 1 year old puppy who has been lethargic all of last night and today. We were up with our pup all night because she was throwing up repeatedly and still is and has very low energy and keeps coughing as well. When my mom took her to the clinic she was asked to fill out an online form and only then they would possibly consider triage in 30 minutes. When she asked if she could fill out the form inside because she couldn't see the online form in the sun she was yelled at and told very rudely that this was not an emergency by a woman who we think is the technician. I do not understand how this was not an emergency? She is repeatedly throwing up and is in pain. So unbelievably rude. I can understand referring us to go somewhere else if you are full capacity but literally yelling at your customers?? Yikes.

We live in Kemptville and had an emergency with our cat, Bear, when most emergency vets were closed a few days before Christmas due to covid outbreaks. I was in complete panic, calling every emergency vet in Ottawa and VCA Canada Ottawa was open and immediately took him in. They empathetically listened to my concerns and calmly explained their emergency procedures to me (I was a crying mess on the phone) which immediately put me at ease. It was found that he had a severe blockage that needed emergency surgery, and they were amazing every step of the way. Our boy is now recovering at home, and we are incredibly grateful to all of the staff for every aspect of the treatment we, and our sweet boy, received!

My cat was taken in through the ER last night. We thought he broke his back legs. The vet took x-rays, and kept him 6 hours, only to let us know he had potentially torn ligaments in his front right paw. This didn't make sense because his back legs were dangling before he was brought to the vet. We took him home, and they still were. Today, we have been informed his is paralyzed and now the vet refuses to answer any questions before he is "busy". This is completely unacceptable and I wouldn't recommend this location to my worst enemy. The vet should have caught this when my cat was under his care for several hours yesterday. He didn't. I will never bring an animal here again, and we will be going to the emergency vet on Alta Vista because they atleast know what they are doing. Editing to add: after taking him to Alta Vista, they discovered he had nothing wrong with any limbs and was throwing blood clots into his spine. If the vet would have caught this, he wouldn't have suffered for two additional days.

Amazing service and care, even with COVID-19 protocol implemented. Had to drop off my cat for an emergency as she wouldn't stop throwing up for no apparent reason. I was regularly updated over the course of about 20h, and was explained everything about her condition as well as potential issues to look into and why. The doctor gave me options in terms of treatments/solutions, and once we were back home a nurse followed up a few days later to ensure everything was going well. Not sure why people complain about the price to investigate their pet's condition. Obviously running the tests + using employees' time and expertise costs money... ???? Everyone there is extremely friendly and educational. I will not hesitate to go back in case of an emergency. I am super grateful as it's always hard to leave your pet in an unknown place and to strangers, but she wasn't traumatized by the event, quite the contrary. She left feeling much better! Oh and the total ended up being a bit less that the estimated quote, and then ran A LOT of tests.

Thank you for looking after My border Collie Yuma last night and keeping my informed although the night. All of you are amazing and really caring. I could not imagine having to do your stressful jobs. Keep up the great work.

Ten stars. They were so helpful when we took our dog in for an emergency. Professional and organized. Definitely recommend.

Recently had to admit my puppy in the middle of the night here, and I'm so thankful I made that choice. From the first second she was admitted, they took great care of her and brought her back to her normal self sooner than expected. Treatment plans, updates and pictures of my puppy were shared consistently and kindly. Really grateful for the care and love this team shared with her and other animals.

Went for my cat emergency. came 4:06 pm and left 2:30 am almost 12 hours my cat waited to be treated. they do not allow owners to enter, only pets enter, they speak with the owners by phone. to pay allow to enter obvious. They took too long. Told us to go home that they would call us in 5 hours to pick it up and it was not like that That was my experience

My spouse and I have been bringing our pets (dogs and cat!) here over the past 10 years and have had many positive experiences. We recently had to say goodbye to our beloved cavie, Harrison, due to his worsening heart condition, and it was such a difficult time for us. Words cannot express how grateful we are to Dr. Schroeder (such an amazing human being!) and the staff who helped care for him during his final moments. We will never forget the kindness, compassion and support we were shown – it helped make things a bit easier during one of the saddest days of our lives. Dr. Schroeder even followed up with us a couple weeks later to ensure we were doing okay and offered kind words of support. Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts! <3 -Steph and Will

With everyone and every interaction we had, the staff at VCA were polite, accommodating, proffesional and curteous. Thank you VCA.

Every year we need to get flea and tick medication for our dog. Last year being covid, we were not able to book any appointments at the vet to get our dog a check up. So in may this year I contacted the location to tell them that we needed a refill. The person on the phone said we need a check up to get a refill, so we booked one for July. When we got there for appointment (which we have a confirmation email for) they told us they have no appointment and someone contacted us to cancel it. Neither myself or my wife were contacted, we both checked our phone records to confirm. The person on the phone was convinced that we were lying about this and would not take responsibility that clearly one of her coworkers made a mistake. This is not the first time this has happened to us, and we have had nothing but trouble trying to get appointments right with them in the past. I would not recommend going to this place at all.

It was one of the saddest days in my life when this innocent little kitten had to be let go due to congenital heart disease. But this institution made is possible and took every step to manage our deep sorrow.

We had such a great experience with this team and our ill cat. I was so impressed with photo updates and text updates... I knew the person messaging me truly cared about my animal and cared that I was informed. I had a volume of communication with this clinic (about a week) over the well-being of my cat. He ended up needing a blood transfusion which was given to him by another one of our cats. At one point, all three of our cats stay overnight at VCA and we had no concerns about their quality of care. Every time I called after my first interaction, the techs knew my animal by name and ALWAYS asked about how he was (if he wasn't already there!) Would highly reccomend this clinic especially for an after hours emergency. Their staff team and vets forever have a special place in our hearts

I got a new pup that came from a bad breeder. They were CKC registered, so my advice is don't rely on that. Pup came sick, I called VCA and they had me come in. They say the operate like a human hospital with triage and that's absolutely true. Even with COVID19, they handled the intake and handling professionally and with care. The follow ups they've provided and the genuine care combined with their professionalism is honestly refreshing and mind blowing. My pup is now much healthier and happy and on the road to recovery thanks to them. I could not say enough good things about the process. I've attached some pictures of my pup just because he's also happy we went.
