As a new reptile owner, we brought our bearded dragon here for a wellness check. I chose this animal hospital based on the reviews and I wasn't disappointed. The vet was very knowledgeable on reptiles and was gentle and kind with our pet and answered our many questions. We'll definitely bring our beardie back here if he has any issues.

Unfortunately they left me very disappointed. I called them because my rattie was having a difficulty breathing and his body was cool when I arrived home from work. We rushed to them and left him with hope but I was really nervous about my rattie life. After one hour of waiting in the parking lot, I was histerical and decided to call them, as I didn't hear from them. I was told that "i'm a squeeze in appointment so I have to wait". My phone call helped though, as I received a phone call shortly from dr.Lisa McKinnon. She was talking VERY FAST and because I was nearly crying at that point, I had a hard time comprehending her words and theories from the beginning. She wasn't sure what caused my rattie to have such a difficulties breathing, so I explained what I've been told by my original vet and because I have a lot of expierence with rats and their health issuses I even suggested what can be done. Doctor finally decided on a course of treatment, with steroids, injection of diuretic and I was told that my rat need a trim on his teeth. 15mins later I received another call saying that she was unable to do the trim due to an excessive bleeding from the mouth (how the bleeding occurred I have NO IDEA, as I brought him without any issues). The staff informed ma that they cleaned him up nicely, we booked an appointment for next day for a trim and I went home. Upon arrival, I noticed that the bleeding is actually very bad, and as an educated rat owner (I knew that rats don't have a lot of blood) I decide he might not survive the night, so I made a quick decision to go to Guelph Campus Estate, as I have always recieved a proffesional help from them. When the doctor saw my rattie, he was surprised that I was not told to eutanize him at the Burloak A.H...and also that steroids can actually do more harm in his condition!!!. So i made one of the hardest decision in my life and kissed my last rattie goodbye, as he begun the journey to the rainbow bridge. I'm devastaed after what happened to him in Burloak, basically the money spent for nothing and obviously I can't recommend this clinic to anyone with rats.

It was my first time going to Burloak Animal Hospital with my pet rabbit. From the assistants, vet techs, and to the doctor, I felt very welcomed and I left feeling very assured of my rabbit's well-being. We've been going here for nearly 10 years and we are never ever disappointed with the care our pets receive. The staff are so caring and knowledgeable and we always feel as though we are in good hands. It's a 40 minute drive from where we live now but we won't go anywhere else. It's worth it to know my fur babies are getting the best care. And they do so much more than just cats and dogs - we took our reptiles here too! They also offer grooming and training. They're great about answering emails when you have a question about your pets health and will always do their best to advise if they can or set up an appointment if necessary. We've seen pretty much every doctor they have and they are all great, as are all of the technicians and support staff. Definitely a well-deserved 5 stars!

Such a friendly, professional and knowledgeable team! I have a small rabbit that has went a whole year being misdiagnosed by other vets. Her condition escalated today, and through a chain of telephone calls, I ended up with Burloak Animal Hospital. They were so quick to help me get in my bunny into the ICU until she could be seen. The doctor promptly figured out her issue and recommended a feasible action plan. Everything was communicated to me in such clarity and it was clear they cared about the animals they see. Their prices were reasonable too, the assessment fee for a small animal was $114, really worth the quality of care. Also, Burloak is taking great precautions for Covid-19 restrictions, and I really respect the effort they've put in to ensure everyone is safe while pets are taken care of. I'll definitely visit here again for follow-ups and if I need a vet in the future.

An informative and enjoyable experience when I brought my daughter and her pet Gecko in for a wellness check. As someone who rescues cats, the Gecko world is foreign to me and I can genuinely say I was thoroughly impressed with the veterinarian and staff members who shared their knowledge and expertise with us. We left with confidence and a better understanding of Geckos and their needs. We are grateful for their willingness to help and ensure ALL pets have their medical needs met!

Staff are very friendly. Brought my small parrot for a general checkup and was offered if I wanted to have chlamydia testing done on my bird. The vet had mentioned that birds can pass it on to humans but she didn't really describe what the illness would entail, and I was mislead thinking that the illness would was the same as human chlamydia. When it was time to pay the bill, the testing came to $152 +tax on top of the $100 +tax checkup fee. I was notified the next day that my bird didn't have it. Of course, I want my bird to remain healthy but a little background knowledge on such an expense would very much be appreciated. I feel like I was scammed.

We are posting this on behalf on one of our clients: I brought Norman(long-haired red Persian male with ”catitude”) to get a lion cut on Tuesday. I can’t say enough about the professional, caring, wonderful women I met. I was taken into the “Cat Room” which was super comfortable for owners and pets, very quiet, had a fish tank, subdued lighting and a stool for a cat to look out the window. Norman is usually very skiddish when entering a vet. Here he sat on my lap watching the fish and purring. No one rushed us through, I could tell everyone I met on that day, loves animals and when they handled him, it was exceptionally gentle. I have never been treated this well and have been to at least 10 different vets since owning animals. I would highly recommend anyone taking their animal to you. It was a relaxing, fun outing instead of the stress I encountered elsewhere. And I was pleasantly surprised about the cost. I was willing to pay more but the procedure was explained very well and in the end it cost less because Norman was more relaxed than usual. And the follow-up call the next day was unexpected as well.

This is one of our first experiences at a vet. It was far. And that is the only negative thing that I can say. They looked and treated Twig, one of our chameleons. And the experience was excellent. Everything from the casual conversation, to the minimal wait time to the knowledgeable herp vet, to the ambiance of the animal hospital. While they were alive we took our two gecko's here for care, the animal hospital was always very good and followed up with us. Can't say enough good things about Kandis here, literally allowed us to keep our feisty chihuahua Foxy. Foxy recently had some kind of stomach issue (blood in her stool) and the kind Dr. Garcia came back to help us out and give us some food to help her stomach, and sat with us to explain everything. I believe that we have worked with all the vets there at some point in the past 5 years, and we have always been satisfied with the service.

I have been going to Burloak Animal Hospital since 2003. Dr. Garcia is absolutely amazing. His demeanour with our dogs always puts them at ease, and his level of compassion is second to none compared to all other vets we have used. When my first dog Bailey was being treated for cancer, Dr. Garcia used to bring his dog in to keep Bailey company during treatment days. He even came to our home in Bailey's final hours so that he could be put to rest in my lap in a safe and comfortable place. I moved to the US, and over the last 9 years have moved 6 times, each time having to find a new vet. We are back in Ontario now, and the first thing we did was to go to see Dr. Garcia with our dogs. No one can compare!! We also have a bird, and Dr. McKinnon has always been wonderful with our feathered babies. I have the utmost confidence in having her care for our newest cockatiel. As well as the amazing vets, the techs and staff at the clinic are always extremely pleasant, caring and careful with our pets, and eager to help in whatever way we need. We live further away than we used to (almost in Hamilton) but won't take our babies anywhere else. It's worth the drive!

They take such good care of my rabbit Jasper. We go in for regular nail trimmings and Burloak Animal Hospital goes above and beyond everytime! Last time, we found Jasper baddly injured a nail. I had to run to work and was worried about it bleeding again and leaving him alone. They offered to hold onto him to monitor him, and I pick him up later. Not only did they cut his nails, they took care of his injury, and kept him for 3 hours. So when I went to cash out I expected a boarding fee, vet visit, etc etc. But NO! Just a nail trimming charge! They obviously really care about our pets' well being and just wanted me and my pet to be happy. Most recent visit, I asked for them to check a few extra things, and the same outcome happened. They take their time, are very thorough, and reasonably priced. Thank you Burloak Animal Hospital!!

I was really stressed out about bringing my sick Linnie to the vet due to regulations around covid meaning I couldn't come in with my bird. The staff here are super kind and attentive though. I had to wait in the car for quite a while but the doctor called me a couple times to update me on my birds condition, potential next steps, the risks associated with different procedures. This care and patience alleviated my concerns. My bird is not hand tame but seemed to be pretty perky afterwards despite certainly being manhandled during her appointment. We left with some medication and directions to check out a YouTube video on how to administer it, and the video was very clear and professional too. I'm very pleased to have found this vet through necessity, and I'll be happily coming back.

I don't think I have the proper words to express how WONDERFUL the staff are. We used to live in Oakville and moved 30 minutes west but still kept them as our vet. We made the right decision. Dr. McKinnon (she was extremely compassionate when we had to end the life of our boy Courage due to cancer), Dr. Garcia (who our boy Ollie LOVES to go see, regardless of what poking and prodding needs to be done to him) Margaret, Kandis, and ALL the staff are truly amazing. When we lost our boy Courage in November, they ALL went above and beyond. Our eldest Ollie is 11 and not doing well and his treatment has been nothing short of spectacular. Their kindness and caring is what makes them different than all the rest. I hope Dr. Zenker realizes how truly wonderful his staff are. I highly recommend! There's an exotic vet within 10 minutes of me but anytime I need a vet I'll always drive the almost hour to Burloak instead. I booked an appointment for my snake as a new patient due to an ongoing issue. When I later called with more concerns, the appointment was moved up and fit into the end of the day. Dr. McKinnon stayed over an hour after closing to thoroughly examined my snake, explain what could be done, and patiently answer my questions. They called me the next two mornings to check in. When the prescribed medication didn't solve the issue, we were booked for another appointment to try other options. Dr. Hale saw my snake and was also very thorough and patient. Everyone at Burloak is professional, knowledgeable and genuinely cares about all animals. I was very impressed and happy with the care my snake received. Thank you!

The best place to take exotics! Finding a vet that will see a ferret is hard enough, but they go above and beyond to make sure your loved ones are well taken care of. I've had several ferrets in the past and I've taken every one of them to Burloak, it's well worth the drive for me! The staff are some of the nicest people I've met. It's obvious how much they care about animals of all shapes and sizes, they'll even check in to see how your little one is doing after their visit. They have most treatments onsite, and they'll give you options for how you'd like to proceed with your fur babies treatments. I honestly wouldn't take my babies anywhere else.

*** Phenomenal Staff *** Unfortunately, we had to make the difficult decision to put our 9 year-old rabbit down. Dr. Patrick Garcia and Natasha Brunst were so very compassionate, informative and simply amazing during such a trying time. We have owned a variety of pets over the years but never had such a wonderful experience at an Animal Hospital until now. I highly recommend Burloak Animal Hospital. On July 22 we went to the vet because of Kira's fedder picking . Kira was a happy and silly bird , that love to love When we came to the vet at 7 pm they had us wait in the room and the technician asked us about her improvement since the last visit which took place 1 year ago . During the passed year we had been giving her 3 medications however nothing helped. Other then being a bit bold here and there , she was very healthy and vibrant. The vet came to the room and ast the technician to hold kira from the neck so she can hear her heart checked her ears and other routine checks and said :"she is ok , i dont see any problem " we decided to do some examinations to check maybe the problem is not on her skin . Maybe its from inside so the vet recommended to do a blood test however we just wanted to send her poop to the lab to rule out that it’s not an internal issue, the vet said its better to do a blood test. At the same moment i asked :"how safe is that ?" And the vet said :"totally safe" its really easy just will leave her a little bruised . Who am i to not believe a professional veterinarian?. She had probably done that many times in the past and it was just a simple blood test not a surgery They took my bird to another room and after 15 min the vet come back with straight cold face and i already knew what happened... "im sorry " she said I start crying and left the room . After that i came back and asked to talk to the technician and asked her what happened, she said that they held her from the neck put the needle in her neck she got overwhelmed they took it out to relax her but she stopped breathing. Then i took the vet to the side and asked what happened and she said we held her put the needle in and she got overwhelmed we let her relax and did it again . Why would you try again if you could clearly see that the bird had anxiety?? Why wouldn't you give her back to me so I can calm her down??? Why whould you keep stabbing my baby if you see she became more anxious?? Just to make that 500$ ?? Every question i have been asking was the same (worded differently) but i got totaly different answers Apparently after that we realized we had to sign a consent letter that explained the risk in taking blood from a little angel like this but instead of printing us that they print us the bill of the 500$ ...... if i would never go to them kira still would be alive, we would of find a way to grow her fedder back without killing her .because the vet said multiple times "its a behavior problem " you go to the vet to help your littel angel that trust you so much cuz they dont have a voice . But we the good people do . And we will fight against all the evil people that know how to take money but not blood.

They care about your pets and it shows. Dr. Garcia has the greatest bedside manner and is very knowledgeable. He's also thorough in his assessments over the phone after your pet's appointment is complete. Staff is always friendly and attentive. Expect higher rates though.

On Sat morning, we woke up to find our little budgie sick and distressed. Panicking that she was dying, looking like a painful frightening death, I Googled Avian Vets near us, and called Burloak asking for urgent help, even though our pets were not registered with them. They immediately said to bring Blue in to their office. On arrival, they took her inside to examine her. We were kept updated several times by staff and the Vet (I'm sorry in my distress I didn't remember this Vet's name). After examination, tests/xray, it was determined that the kindest decision was to euthanize Blue and end her suffering, give her peace. My son and I agreed and we gave our consent. This was a very stressful, painful decision for us, especially my son who bravely dealt with Blue during this awful day. To the staff and Vet who took such tender care of Blue, we are eternally grateful. Professional, informative and caring every stage of the way. Thank you for taking care of Blue at such a distressing time.

This is the only hospital in Oakville that specializes in exotic and pocket pets. Unfortunately, the value of this hospital ends there. I have a preferred vet who occasionally refers me to this hospital to treat my pocket pets (hamster and guinea pigs). I have had multiple pets treated here. There was almost always a red flag or issue in my experience. 1.) I never receive follow-ups after treatment and even surgery. I have had surgery and medication administered by this hospital and received no follow up and no post-surgery care. I had to research post-op care on my own. This patient ended up passsing away. 2.) they don't take emergency situations seriously. The patient mentioned above did not receive the necessary surgery for over a week after the pre-op appointment. The staff refused to treat the patient sooner, despite the fact that the surgery was needed right away. I guess because I'm not a regular client then my pets' lives don't matter as much. 3.) I have arrived to my designated appointment time only to be left waiting for 20 minutes while clients arriving after me were being seen. I ended up having to remind the front desk staff of my appointment. 4.) When setting up appointments, I expect a registered vet to examine my pets and take the time to answer my questions. Instead, I have ended up only with a vet tech. Don't get me wrong, vet techs are very knowledgable and great at what they do, but the fact that the vet I am paying for can't take the time to speak to me or examine my pet just shows a disregard for me and my pets. 5.) Poor bedside manner. It seems clear this hospital prefers quantity over quality. I never felt that my pets' health, comfort and safety were a priority simply because I wasn't a regular client. This is a summation of my experience. Unfortunately because exotics/pocket pet vets are difficult to come by, I have no choice but to rely on this semi-reliable business.

they’re great for any “exotic”pet needs. staff is super friendly and they usually will try to help you keep your budget. all in all i’d recommend them over any vet in the area. i wish they were a bit more upfront about their costs because our last bill was $250 over what we were told

As a bird owner, I wasn't sure I could find a vet who'd a) see a bird at all and b) give my feathery friend the care she needed. I am happy to say that I found this place! Mine was an emergency situation, during their regular business hours, and although I wasn't a current customer and I didn't have an appointment, they still told me to come in. The receptionist took my concerns, told me the best way to transport my pet in the chilly weather, and upon arrival I was taken right into a room. They took the bird away immediately to put her in an oxygen tank, just in case, and brought her back in after ten minutes so she could be examined. The vet was careful and gentle with the bird, and very patient with my questions and very thorough. They did a stain test while I waited, and medication was given to me, along with detailed instructions on how to administer it. After going home, I received two follow up calls to check on the status of my pet. I would recommend this clinic to anyone for their attention to detail, thoughfulness, and genuine affection for animals.

Dr. Garcia has been seeing my dog since he was a 4 month old puppy and has been so great with him! He gave us great training tips when we first got him as he was our first dog and is always so helpful with any questions. Dr. Hale has seen my parrot on a couple occasions recently. One of the visits was an emergency. They took her in right away and called (due to covid) to explain what was going on. Dr. Hale was extremely understanding and explained everything in an easy to understand way and answered all my questions fully. The staff at the clinic are beyond amazing as well. They always seem so excited to see the animals again , they are so welcoming and friendly. I am so glad we chose Burloak as our clinic!

I give burloak zero stars dr mckinnon removed my guinea pigs bottom incisors and roots without my permission and as a result he lost a lot of weight and has to be hand fed for the rest of his life now. He was a lot healthier before I brought him to burloak. I regret bringing him here. She didn’t even have the curtesy to call and check up on him at all. First they mess up your pets health, take your money and then forget about you.

Burloak Animal Hospital is the very best veterinary clinic I have ever been too. They are helping my puppy "Poppy" as she gets treatment for epilepsy, and the support we have received has been outstanding.
