I have a one year old Siberian Cat named Leeloo. Leeloo loves Dr Adva Barkai-Ronayne (although she does not like the car ride). As a pet momma, I love Russell Lake Animal Hospital. Dr. Barkai-Ronayne knows her stuff and is happy of share her knowledge. At our first visit, she gave me an after hours number for emergencies and they are happy to answer. Like most people, our dog Frank is like a family member to us and we love him so dearly. New to the Halifax area, we were determined to find Frank the best care possible. After some research and a survey of the veterinarians in the Halifax area, we decided on Russell Lake for both their excellent reputation and reasonable costs. Our visit yesterday affirmed our decision. Dr. Barkai is incredibly patient, sweet, and caring with Frank. He has never had such a positive and calm experience at a veterinarian clinic before. Her patience and compassionate disposition ensure us that his health is in the best care. Plus, she always makes a personal phone call to check up and see how our guy is doing. Honestly - sweestest vet ever! We will definitely be coming back here and would recommend them for your animal's care. Oh, and they take Air Miles! ;)

The vet tech was very rude and inconsiderate to the fact that I had to say goodbye to my beloved pet.. told me that I should've brought him in earlier and he would've been worth saving, which broke my heart even more given I had brought him in as soon as I found out he was sick.. however the vet was very kind, reassuring me that it in fact was not my fault and that guinea pigs hide their illnesses very well and that my guy was 7 and basically dying from old age.. but what that vet tech said really doesn't sit right with me.. try and learn some compassion, with the job you have you'd think she'd have some..

I recently had to get my dogs food on short notice. This was the only place close by that was open and carried his food. Purina Pro Plan EN Gastoeneric. I was a little dismayed by the cost but since I didn’t have any comparison i went with it. Here is the difference among Dart Vets. This is for the 2.72Kg bag Russell Lake $59.19 Village Vet E Pass $37.25 Burnside Vet $37.25 Companion Animal Hospital $36.54 Vetwise $37.90 Today i called to see what warranted such a difference, over $21. The receptionist could not provide an answer so i asked the owner to call back. She did Dr B, she offered no rationale other than it was based on their cost and that they were private, not incorporated. She was actually quite rude and basically said there were three other vets in the area people can choose...so i suggest you choose somewhere else as my thinking is if they mark up their food prices...imagine what they are possibly doing with their other charges. Buyer be WARE!

Was a customer for over five years. They handled two of my dogs. However I voiced my dissatisfaction recently and was told by the owner to look for another vet. They refused to calculate my refund and prescribed me urinary food that my dog was allergic to (she’s allergic to chicken and they have been told this). They said they were too busy to calculate my refund, didn’t know when they could. Surprisingly they sent me a letter and email within 24 hours saying my cheque was in the mail and to find a new vet. VERY unprofessional. Guess they have too much business…..

I consider my cat a part of my family so trusting other people to take care of her is not a decision I take lightly. Russell Lake Animal Hospital has been my vets for my five-year old silky terrior over the last year and a half. She has developed allergies (environmental or food or both) and the doctors and staff at the hospital have been a tremendous help to myself and my little silky. The very best vet I have ever gone to. I have a bullmastiff who has had very bad allergies since birth, went to 4 different vets before this one, they all said the same thing, paid so much to have them send me away with no answers and always the same meds, and she would be just as sick after the meds were done. This vet answered an hour's worth of questions and was so kind. And sent me with an actual plan to make her better, not just a bandaid. Best vet ever ! Highly recommend.

On a Friday evening, our cat some how got her let entangled in a blanket.We phoned a few vets but they had no appointments. Finally, I found Russell Lake Animal Hospital on the web. They said to bring her in right away, examined her, relieved her pain and gave us directions to bring her back in for an x-ray. When we moved back to Halifax, Russell Lake was one of the most highly recommended vets to us. We've taken our dog there twice now, and we were not disappointed! I was nervous about bringing my dog to a brand new vet during the quarantine as I wouldn't be able to go in with her, I was worried communication would be tricky. However, Russell Lake has been absolutely incredible. I've spent multiple hours on the phone discussing my concerns about my dog, and talking through assessment possibilities, the results of those assessments, and a strategy to move forward. They've been so patient, and kind, spending as much times as I felt I needed to ask as many questions as I wanted, and get the answers I needed. I cannot recommend Russell Lake enough to anyone looking for in-depth, compassionate care. They truly do go above and beyond. They also have extremely reasonable prices, I've paid a lot more for worse care.

My experience with Russell Lake animal hospital bar none has been the best Vet clinic in a long time for me. My Vet has been super along with her staff. I usually accept new staff when my vets move on with their lives, however after rescuing at least 15 cats in the past 10 years I assumed I would receive the same service from the staff when my vet moved on. I did not feel comfortable as when you take on another stray, bills come with it. This leads to stress & concern and I did not feel right in staying as I felt "strays" didn't sound good to them. Russell Lake's employees show compassion when you walk in the door are only too happy to listen to your concerns for your pet. Dr. Adva Barkai-Ronayne and her staff are superb to my 4 cats AND ME.

We had been taking our animals to another large local vet clinic for almost 20 years, but we knew it was time for a change for many reasons. A couple years ago I had read a wonderful article about Dr. Barkai in the newspaper and wanted to give her a try. When we got our new kitten I knew this was the perfect opportunity to make that initial visit. Two years later I am still 100% happy! Dr. Barkai truly is a knowledgeable vet. She takes the time to explain things so clearly, and doesn't mind answering questions. Last month we had to say goodbye to our dog of almost 16 years. The care and compassion I witnessed was so sincere it left me speechless. The clinic is spotlessly clean and all the staff are great. I highly recommend this clinic!

I see a lot of excellent reviews on here but I want to inform people of their rights. You have the right to request your prescription. When you buy your prescription here you are paying twice, as much, then simply going to a pharmacy of your choice. I was very recently charged twice for the very same issue. First time antibiotics, second time simple cream that was made up of the very same ingredients that you can purchase yourself, over the counter at any pharmacy. The office manager will try really hard to make excuses to try to justify being over charged because of what the FDA allows or doesn’t allow. One would have to assume that, if it’s sold over the counter, and safe for humans, it would be safe for pets, when it comes to treating skin issues.. I am extremely happy to say, I treated my own dog with over the counter cream and her dermatitis is beautiful healed. Be very careful, know your rights and don’t allow yourself to be over charged. If money is more important to a vet establishment then the well being of an animal then move on and find one that puts the well being of animals first....not the other way around...PS. I was actually fired from going here by the office manager, did you honestly think I would even consider paying you for any further services, once I realized and understood your greed.

Last year a new vet gave our dog 3 immunizations in the same area and he woke up with what seemed to be a hematoma near his spine and was paralyzed, albeit the paralysis was temporary, the heart murmur he also developed was not. We received very little accountability from the vet, and they deferred the blame by saying it must've been a reaction to the vaccine - that he's gotten several times before with no adverse effects. We had to request several times and almost argue with them to get the subsequent exam refunded, and even then they continued to place blame on the vaccine company. I will say that Dr. Barkai had always been great, but it seems as though she has stepped back from clinical duties and taken more of a managerial role. The staff we have primarily dealt with since then have been less than ideal. Because of covid and not being able to actually enter the facilities, it's hard to know who you're speaking to - whether it's the tech, desk staff, etc. and for that reason we can't point fingers, but it could be said that there hasn't been a particular staff member that left us with an amazing lasting impression.
