This is a review for both Clayton Park veterinary hospital and Petfocus hospital, Bedford South. My cat, Harley, recently had a nasty urinary tract issue that took him to emergency. He got unblocked and sent home a few days later with meds (they were very good to him there too). He was still not doing well after a few more days. I took him to the Clayton Park hospital where he was seen by Dr. Timothy Farrow. He drained his bladder again and gave him 3 different types of medicine. The next day, however, he seemed to be blocked again. So I took him to Bedford South as the other place (closer to where I live) was very busy. I met with Dr. Heather Rintoul who showed her concern and gave me some options for short and long term care. This cat is less than a year old so I wanted to do whatever I could to keep him alive and well. She took her time to go over different treatment options with me and let me think about which way to go. I left him there to get treated again where she put a catheter in to unblock him again. I took him home later and continued to give him his medications for the next couple weeks. A month later, I am happy to day Harley seems to be back to his normal playful and healthy self. I have him on a special diet and he is doing great! I truly believe without the help of Drs Farrow and Rintoul, Harley may not be here today. Thank you!

Dr. Kersey is the best veterinarian my family & I have ever taken our pets to. She's so easy to talk to & her explanations of things are very clear. She shows a lot of empathy & and seems very understanding when we're not able to get every procedure done right away due to limited resources. She's not pushy at all & genuinely seems to care a lot about our pets. The rest of the staff is great too! Always very helpful & friendly. Update May 26, 2019: I want to add that my cat & dog ended up being seen by Dr Heather Rintoul instead for some reason at one point and both have been seeing her ever since. She is an excellent veterinarian. She is very professional, genuinely cares about my senior pets, is definitely not pushy, and puts the best interest of pet and owner above all else.

I've been told that another doctor is treating it and I will get a call with an estimate for a surgery. Two days passed and when they didn't call me back I have called them. The receptionist told me that the other doctor hasn't come to work since but she will that day and they will get back to me.... Guess what? two more days and nothing... When I called again I've been told that they don't do it and will refer me to a specialist who will contact me. It's been more then a week since, didn't get any call or email. I don't understand why I needed to call them twice to find out they don't do it and why they didn't even care to call me and tell me they will refer me to someone else. nevertheless checking on my dog. Very bad experience and service.

Buyer beware! Here's our experience: my daughter booked her young male cat here to be neutered and asked me to drop it off. She had called and got a quote and booked the appointment. When I dropped it off I was given a paper to sign to confirm the cost. I thought little of it, knowing that my daughter had called. BUT... as it turned out my daughter had received a quote of $85 but the final bill was over $300. For a male cat neutering. When we tried to discuss this with the counter person we were told that it's not possible anyone would give out the figure of $85. When I asked if they had any new staff she said "yes but we're with them all of the time". But my daughter DID call to get that quote - 3 people heard her - and she DID call that clinic, the number is recorded in her phone. Breaking down the bill further we found the fee was $180 for the neutering (which I now know is REALLY high), and $80 for the pre-screen blood testing of our very healthy, no-problems-reported, 1-year-old cat. When I told her I was going to post this on social media the staff member FINALLY broke from her "I don't care" composure and went and called her manager. Obviously she cares about the clinic image more than anything else. But alas, the manager said "they signed the paper - tough luck". So whatever their compassion for animals, they don't have the same for customers or customer service. The way this was dealt with is textbook corporate, not what you expect from a local business that cares about its customers. We were reasonable and polite throughout, but the "get out of my waiting room" attitude was palpable. For the prices they charged you'd think the staff would have a better manner while dealing with an unhappy customer. I expected they might take a least a little bit of responsibility for some confusion of which they were obviously part. Not to mention show a bit of compassion rather than a stone-faced 'no'. Instead they lost a customer -- one with 2 dogs AND a new neutered cat who seems fine. But we need a new vet. Recommendations?

We have 2 English Mastiffs, each pushing 200lbs. Dozer has had 2 TPLO surgeries done here by Dr Rushton and Timber has had 1 last week. The staff at Petfocus has been more than amazing. As hard and as terrible it is to leave our loved ones somewhere for the day to have a major procedure performed is, it warmed our hearts to see how our boys were handled. The staff genuinely cares about its patients and treats them as if they were their own family. As If this level of care wasn't enough the quality of their procedures is second to none. We have had amazing results and they gave Dozer a new lease on life. Timber will no doubt De the same when his recovery time is up. I very highly reccomend Petfocus Bedford South to all of my family and friends and thank everyone there so much for all they have done and continue to do for our family!

I have been a fan of the PetFocus staff since my first visit a few years ago. However, it was when my dog Rocky started having seizures that I truly developed a deep appreciation for the staff. Dr. Kersey has always provided us with knowledgeable solutions, but most importantly, she takes the time to work with our family and help us understand our pets' needs. 10/10 recommend!!!

I can't say enough just how amazing Dr. Rushton and his staff at this location are. We were referred to Dr. Rushton by another vet. The diagnoses was not what we were hoping for (Large, inoperable tumour instead of a simple ACL surgery). It was a very tough time for our family but thanks to Dr. Rushton / Staff for their extensive knowledge and level of compassion it made the situation as good as it could have been. This will be the only Vet clinic that we use going forward.

Unreasonably Expensive! Talked for 10 minutes and that costs 92 dollars. Went here last year for my cat's vaccine. The doctor came and briefly checked my cat and told me there's no need for vaccine if I barely take him outdoor. I was charged $92 dollars. We only talked for less than 10 minutes plus a very brief physical check, and that costs $92 dollars. Don't visit this vet, it is too overpriced.

I never write reviews but I want to share that my experience here was one of the best veterinary experiences I've had. We found Dr. Heather Rintoul after our 12 year old lab/border collie mix had had a mis-diagnosis at another vet. His sprain turned out to be a cruciate tear and he's was recommended for surgery. Dr. Rintoul took us patiently through all the options and thoughtfully examined the pros and cons of such an expensive procedure for an elderly dog. Given that Ben was in very good shape for his age we went ahead with the surgery which was scheduled promptly. Ben's recovery has been incredibly swift and his leg is strong even 4 weeks post-op.I want to thank the entire staff, and especially Dr Rintoul for her kindness, skill and care. We were visiting NS for work and we feel so lucky that we found such a great vet while here to take care of this problem and give Ben another chance to play and run on all 4 legs!

Took my dog Marley for her first appt this week. She is a senior dog that I recently adopted and she wasn't feeling to good. Dr Sanford was the doctor we saw. She was kind and reassured Marley and myself, we got some medicine, and a check up and it was a great visit! The staff at this clinic are amazing, friendly and efficient. We recently began bringing both of our dogs to this clinic - one is a 3 month old puppy and the other a 10 year old dog. They have both addressed issues (a uti and an allergic reaction) as well as administered routine immunizations. All the staff have been great and there are no crazy wait times to get in for an appointment. Prices also seem quite reasonable compared to the previous clinic we had been to. It is a little further away from us but we will certainly continue to use them as our vet!

This is a great facility that I would readily recommend to anyone! The staff are knowledgeable, kind and they go far out of their way to accommodate their clients/patients. Our family was looking forward to spending 2 months in Halifax (we are from Ontario) but our dog started to develop significant liver problems about 2 weeks before we were scheduled to leave. Our local vet felt that he was likely dying from liver cancer and made the prognosis seem pretty bad. Getting a liver ultrasound was recommended but we couldn’t arrange for this before we left Ontario as it was a few week wait time. I turned to the internet in search of some place to get an ultrasound done in the HRM area and this clinic was recommended. Dr. Kersey at PetFocus Bedford willingly took on our dog as a patient and did an ultrasound (in a couple days within our arrival from Ontario vs the weeks quoted to us in Ontario), did an open liver biopsy (a pretty major surgery) and diagnosed him with a copper toxicity (this is very rare in his breed and difficult to diagnose). During the entire process she kept us updated on the results of testing and she provided us with a great deal of reassurance. She and her staff did a number of check-in calls just to make sure our little one was doing okay over a period of weeks. We had left Ontario completely demoralized as we felt that we were heading out to Halifax with two dogs but only returning to Ontario with one. Now he's doing great and you would never know he has an underlying chronic illness. He will be on medication for life, but that life will hopefully be 12+ years instead of the 6 years it would have ended at if it wasn't for this clinic. However, the ups and downs of our story didn't end there. A few weeks after he started treatment for the copper toxicity, he tore his ACL in a very non-dramatic walk down a hill. This required surgery which was done by Dr. Rushton. They were able to book us in urgently before we left Halifax. Both the surgery and the recovery were both straight forward with great results. We are very grateful for all the care that PetFocus Bedford gave us. If you're looking for a great vet team, give this place a shot.

I have been taking my pup Sarge to Pet Focus since we got him at 8 weeks Old. From the moment I walked in and was treated by the staff up front I knew I would like this spot, because Sarge loves them all. He is now 10 months old, we have had many trips to the vet for check ups and a shoulder injury and the dreaded “neutering”. We have been to 3 vets there and are pleased with all the care that has been provided to us and Although Sarge has become a big chicken, he loves them all. We think he has a big soft spot for Dr Golding! Everyone there is always kind and patient with our nervous big boy, the vets the techs, everyone and that means a tremendous deal to us. I can't say enough good things about this clinic. Several years ago when our dog was very sick this clinic went over and beyond to help both our dog and support us during this scary time. My dog Memphis is a 7 year old Bernese/Mastiff cross. He has had TPLO surgery on both of his knees performed by Dr. Rushton at age 2 and 4. Memphis is aging extremely well for a dog of his breeds and I have no doubt it is because of the work done by Dr. Rushton and his team. I would highly recommend them! I had the unfortunate experience of having my 14 yr old cat, Zoe, euthanized. Probably the hardest thing I’ve ever done. Throughout Zoe’s illness Dr. Kersey and staff were attentive to her needs and extremely sympathetic when the time came. I had been taking my cat here for a few years and really like Dr. Kersey. She is knowledgeable and kind, and I do highly recommend her as a vet. However, when I got a puppy and it was sick and I called asking if they could see her, they told me they couldn't see her for a few days. Very disappointing after the money and time I have spent there. I had to call another vet who I had no relationship with. They were fully booked but when I told them how sick my dog was, they told me to bring her in right away and they squeezed me in between appoints. The apathy and uncaring attitude of the staff at Pet Focus was very disappointing and upsetting. They didn't care at all that my dog was throwing up water and wouldn't move. I expected more from the staff after the great service of Dr Kersey. I had previously recommended this vet to everyone I met. But I will be telling people to stay away now, as they have shown that in an emergency with me, they won't come through or even see my animal.

We used to take all our babies to this clinic until Dr. Callen left. Always had amazing vet services but did have issues from time to time with customer service. However when addressed, it was ALWAYS resolved. We have since found another clinic but I wouldn't hesitate to use this clinic if we couldn't get into the clinic we now use. The vets here know their stuff. We have seen Dr. Callen and Dr. Brown here. No issues.

I have a 14 year old cat who has been very difficult to get to the vet. I called PetFocus and told them of my delima. Mehan who answered the phone told me of a calming spray and medication that could be given starting a few days ahead of the appointment. I was doubtful but tried it. I was also Givenchy a hint as to how to get him in the carrier. When the time came I got him in the carrier with success. My last vet did not suggest any of these things. All the staff I had contact with were very helpful. Unfortunately I can't remember their names. I will definitely take my pets there in the future.

If you are thinking about going to Pet Focus, please re consider another vet option. I am not one to complain or leave reviews. In fact this is the first time I ever have left a review.. I wont get into detail because it would be pages long but we were told wrong information which led to two failed surgeries of our puppy. We feel we were taken advantage of, and we were never given an apology after having phone calls and emails back and forth with them. I have switched vets and I am hoping this does not happen to anyone else.

Upon entering the premises you immediately feel welcomed and personal one on one care with the professionals. Dr. Rushton and his staff are all passionate about their work and do their job extremely well! Dr. Rushton explained the procedure so well that we had so much confidence in our decision to have it done. Quality care continued with two calls with updates and a call once she was discharged to make sure she was doing well. The staff love what they do and it shows in the care that they gave to our loved one, Allie. When given the option to continue care in our hometown or to return to them - we are going to endure the long drive to return to their facility. 5+ star rating. THANK YOU!!!

We recently had to make the difficult decision to put one to sleep - and Dr. Kersey and the rest of the clinic staff were unbelievably patient, helpful and kind. Their empathy toward both our cat and us was extraordinary - it felt like our boy was one of their own. In addition, their reassurance was so comforting. These are exceptional people!
