This review is a little late but the Highland Animal Hospital almost killed my dog two years ago. We brought her there to have her spayed and had to rush her to another veterinarian hours after picking her up because she was bleeding profusely. Turns out, the PHK vet had neglected to stitch up a layer of muscle. Had we waited much longer we were told she'd have died. It was a terrible experience and I would advise anyone looking for veterinary services to go elsewhere.

Our dog has been sick for almost a year. After going to 2 different vets and hundreds of dollars later with no answers we took him here. First visit they figured out what was wrong and treated him. The cost was 3 times less than the other vets. Thank you so much for helping us find answers! I will not go to any other vet but this one and will spread the word of your great service.

The Highland Animal Hospital apparently thinks it's acceptable to not look at a patient's chart and then unnecessarily euthanize the animal when it was only being treated for a sore leg.

I have always had great care from highland. Dr. Sue Humphries saved the eyesight of my rescue sharpei who had ruptured retinas in both eyes when I got him. Dr. Gail Gibbons has been fabulous for helping maintain the care of my Sharpei's. I've also had Dr. Ashley neuter my latest Sharpei without any problems. They have been my vets for the past 15 years and am well pleased with their care.

If you want to have your dog put down because the veterinarian and his assistant are totally incompetent and can't tell when a dog is there for a sore foot then this is the place for you. For the rest of us. avoid this place.

A few days ago, I called to ask some questions, as sadly my 19-year-old cat was passing away. I had called the other vet clinic in the area prior, but the total lack of empathy that I encountered, as well as being told that my cat would have to undergo an examination if I took her in for euthanasia... a 19-year-old cat clearly hours away from death... I decided to call this clinic. I just wanted to say thank you for the empathy; it was truly appreciated during this difficult time. And also, thank you for being logical in that although there is a mandatory examination for cats who have never come to the clinic, that under these circumstances this would not be required. Although I have never used the services thus far, I appreciate the care and empathy received during this phone conversation and will be using your services in the future. Thank you.

Dog went to get it legs checked. The "vet" didn't check the file for the dog before hand hand and and put it down mistaking it for another dog. Don't go here. Staff is horrible. How many professional vets start procedures with out checking the file first? Bad ones.

Do your research before you go to this place.... euthanized a dog by mistake???! Total incompetence... should not be allowed to practice veterinary medicine....if you really care for your pet don't let them out of your sight and take nothing for granted these doctors obviously don't know what there doing and don't follow common sense protocol.

Absoloutely horrible services and neglect with my experience. What baffles me is how so many people can relate with similar stories of this place almost killing their animals because of lack of practice. No blood work done, uralysis or even weighing the pet during a visit or emergency visit. They're quick to send you off with a prescription and take your money without any adequate form of investigation. My friends pupper just died because of their disregard of symptoms or lack of investigation. They're a bunch of crooks that just want your money.

Vet was great! explained things well, gave us great ideas for keeping our goats horns trimmed and helped load them after surgery. Affordable and pleasant. I really felt like he cared more about the animals than his pocketbook. would def recommend him and will take my animals to him in the future

Since we switched to this vet a few years ago we've been nothing but ecstatic at the level of care, staff treatment towards us and our pets, and the prices. Our last vet clinic often treated us like garbage and the prices were a lot higher, so we're thrilled to be here, frankly, and I've found have even been taking the pets in for lesser issues than we might have normally because going to the vet was such a pain before Highland. They saved my dog's life, have done a couple of spays and neuters for us (no issues), and even treat my guinea pigs. I've also never before now experienced such respect and care during a euthanasia nor had I ever before received a "sorry for your loss" card in the mail from a vet. Highland is awesome and well worth the extra drive from our home to get there.

I felt when bringin my pet in that we weren't important to them. Somehow the fact that I was giving them my business was a burden to them. I had my cat checked out for a fever, she was also not eating. Without doing any tests whatsoever, they told me they did not know what could be wrong and did not give me any options on what to do next, it was like they weren't going to do anything unless I suggested it first. When I finally did ask that they do a blood test they fiddled around behind the desk and told me how much it cost! I didn't care how much it cost!!!! I just wanted my cat to get better. I just decided that they were to uncomfortable to deal with and took my cat to another vet in town. The experience was night and day. This establishment doesn't deserve even the one single star. Terrible!

I also have had nothing but positive experiences with their service. I did not find *at all* that they tried to gouge. I have experienced this at another vet (not in town), but was appreciative of Highland's fair rates. When we lost a pet (my first such experience as an adult), they could not have been more compassionate and accommodating.

Brought our cat there and was told he was dehydrated and would be there for few days. Was called 4 hrs later and informed he had passed away. Was charged for an emergency fee even tho was told to bring him in by Vet the day before. We were told he died of congestive heart failure. This was a 10 yr old very healthy cat that had only ever been to vets as a kitten to get needles and neutered. Still don't know what happened.

I have heard a lot of bad things about this clinic. However, when my indoor cat got outside and was run over, they were the only clinic is Cape Breton willing to take her right away (everywhere else wanted me to wait a few days for an appointment despite the cat being in really rough shape). The staff were very friendly and the cat seemed happy to be there. The cat survived and is happy and healthy now, the bill was alarmy low considering the injury and they didn't charge for having to keep her for awhile. I can't say anything bad about this clinic. In an emergency, they perform exceptionally well. I am extremely thankful they made her a priority and saved our pet.

My uncle lost his best friend.. didnt explain what they were doing. My uncle didnt realize till after that they had sedated his cat.Was told today that he had heart failure and had to put him down to end his suffering. Wouldn't bring my pets within 100ft of this place.

They accidentally put down a dog who was only there to be seen for a sore paw. Looking at other reviews, it doesn't appear to be the first time an animal has suffered or died due to gross negligence or ineptness on their part. Would not bring my pet within a 1000 yards of this place. What kind of vet doesn't check the file or COMMUNICATE with the owner before euthanizing a beloved family member? This place should have its licensing revoked immediately. Condolences to the family on this devastating tragedy.

When a owner of a animal says that there is something seriously wrong with their pet this vet doesn't care and doesn't do anything at all. They only brush the owner off and don't care about animals at all. Never take your animal here ever
