My lil old lady has been going to this clinic for years now and I buy all of her food from there. Their staff is very helpful, their rates are fairly reasonable and they're very honest about costs. My girl just came out of a minor surgery, which was not the cheapest, but they had given me a very broad quote to ensure that I was prepared for a worst case scenario, and luckily everything went smoothly and it ended up on the lower end of the quote. They called me frequently to let me know how she was doing, they had confirmed that I was comfortable with an extra blood test that was needed prior to proceeding, and they explained absolutely everything clearly and took great care of her while she was in the clinic. While I do feel there are clinics that do costs less in the area, I really do appreciate the extra care that the staff there seem give towards my girl and how honest they are on potential surgical costs. They really do seem to try to cover all the possibilities beforehand. Absolutely recommend this clinic to anyone and thank you very much for taking such good care of my old lady.

I have found the Halifax Veterinary Clinic to be very attentive to my dogs needs as well as my own. I feel very comfortable taking their advice and recommendations, and I also feel very comfortable to call and ask for advice when I have a question or concern. I would recommend this clinic to other pet owners.

Excellent service, and caring staff. I appreciate the compassion and careful time taken to explain options and care plans. Also very grateful for phone call follow ups.

Jannene MacNeil

Caring, wonderful vet clinic with vets & techs who have extreme patience with both my grumpy, reactive old dog and my endless questions

Den Tee

Excellent vet clinic, doesn't try to make you pay anything 'extra' (ie. we aren't sure whats wrong, so bring this sample in a d that sample in and its going to cost XXXX)... Also saw the most caring and wonderful receptionist

Sarah Godin

The team here is truly fantastic. Even something seemingly as simple as a vet visit can become a challenge with a reactive dog like mine. However, the team here never fails to welcome my dog with open arms, smiles and rubs and make (sometimes odd) concessions to get her in and out as painlessly as possible. They are truly professional and show great care in every interaction. The vets anewer every question, provide thorough explanations and always provide excellent care - I've never felt rushed out of there.

great location downtown, nice staff but only will help cats or dogs, no small pets :( Disappointing.

I brought my cat in because of suspected bladder problems and ended up with a bill of over $400 spread throughout multiple visits. My cat is anxious and hates the vet, they weren’t very accommodating and made me come back multiple times because the sedative medication they gave ‘wasn’t strong enough’. Eventually they ended up giving him an IV line to knock him out, and the tests turned out negative. The multiple visits created more stress for him instead of just getting the tests done on the first go. They love to try and sell you on extra medications and treatments for your pet, I felt like I was at a sales centre instead of a vet. I’ve been to a different vet before and after this incident and my cat has only needed to be sedated at this one location. I’m glad I’ve found a new vet since.

Told me over the phone my cat was fine, not sure how they can diagnose over the phone like that but she most certainly was not fine and was treated by a far superior vet.

This is a wonderful clinic. I brought my cat here shortly after moving to Halifax and was daunted about finding a new vet for him as my previous vet was excellent. From the moment I walked in the door I felt very welcome. The vet took her time examining my cat, asked alot of questions and answered all the ones I had too. I particularly loved that the vet gave me a call checking in on how my cat was doing a few days after he was in. It was a nice feeling and that extra touch really made me feel that they genuinely cared for his well-being. I won't be going anywhere else for my pets veterinary needs!

Poor quality of care. My vet failed to take into consideration the activity level of my puppy and gave her an inadequate calorie count, which I followed. The next visit I discovered that my puppy wasn't gaining enough weight and in hindsight, they switched her to a kcal count for a working dog. No one took responsibility for this. They didn't question me on our daily routine and her activity levels until after they messed up my beautiful puppy's estimates total energy intake. When her boosters are done we'll be going to Full Circle to see Janis, who is far less naive in the care of sporting dogs. If your vet techs aren't competent enough to take a COMPLETE subjective history, don't let them do it. I really expect better for my dogs. Who knows what impact her inadequate energy intake will have on her brain and musculoskeletal development.

This clinic is very clean, humanistic and having friendly and great stuff.. I came to there from 4Paws Veterinary Hospital on Lady Hammond Rd. which I had worst veterinary experience. Halifax Veterinary hospital figured that my baby was having a giant stone in his bladder, and I believed they did whatever they could do about him. Unfortunately, he passed away right now. I would like to thank vets and staff for not leaving me alone in my pain before and after I lost him. One star is lost because whole experience were a bit pricy..

Laura Eme

Really attentive staff at all levels. Very friendly and everyone took the time needed to answer all of my questions. My two cats were really stressed when we arrived there, but calmed down quickly as staff handled them with a lot of care.

Danielle McKinlay

This team is passionate, empathetic, knowledgeable, and really take the time to make your fur babies so comfortable. My family has two cats, each with special care needs (and often urgent care needs). After having moved here and displacing them, our new Vet made conservative measures the top priority to ensure a happy transition. We are very used to adjusting what we are doing for our kitties health and taking action for their well-being. I appreciated the reminder that slowing down to allow them to adjust and making slower changes in this case is what they need most.

Mary Collier

The vets at Halifax Veterinary hospital are so kind and caring. They called to follow up to see how my dog was doing after an operation and ensured she received the best care possible. Very lucky to have such wonderful vets and am grateful for all they do.

I’ve been here a few times now and always had amazing service but i wanted to take a moment to recognize Emily (i’m really hoping i got that right) from yesterday. she was so sweet and in such a great mood she really made my entire appointment effortless. it felt like her and my dog (lady) had been bffs for years and lady happily trotted off WITHOUT ME to get her nails trimmed by her both of which she HATES with a passion. Emily even gave me some extra tips on how to cut her nails at home! fantastic vet clinic, won’t go anywhere else. thank you emily!

Lesley Mailman

I love this Vet, and when I say Vet, I mean every employee at this place. Everyone is so sweet and kind and understanding (my dog hates going to the Vet) and it makes me feel bad that he throws a fit to even have his temperature taken. They let me take it, which I thought was really nice. He still hated it, but he let me do it. I understand dealing with animals is their specialty, but it still feels like genuine interactions with you. I went in to get updated shots for travel and while they still upsold me on other things (blood work and extra shots) they were all things he should have. The assistant who suggested getting the blood work sold it as, it checks for kidney issues, which are very serious in older dogs. He also told me about how he is dealing with a dog at home that is currently going through kidney disease. Which made the interaction more personal and not -pushy sales-y you don't love your dog if you don't do this - kinda interaction. I love my dog, he's my baby, my seven year old child so you can bet I'm easily talked into anything that benefits him. The point is everyone here is lovely, the place is bright and clean, the vet I had was very sweet, they take very good care of my dog every time we have to go and I recommend taking your pet here

Anastasia Gvozdeva

It is a great place with vets who genuinly care for your pets. I have been there couple times for vaccination and once for a serious case when my dog passed away. Everyone there is very professional and have the most genuine attitude. This is my to go place both for vaccinations and health problems

Dawn Davis

I've been taking my cats here for years and they take excellent care of me. I had to let go of my first pet ever in the spring, and they were there to support me completely all the way. Everyone is so sweet. I'll be taking all my pets here for as long as I can.

They are amazing and I would recommend them to everyone... Knowing my situation... I walked in and they took me to a pvt room right away.. The Dr walked us threw the whole thing... It was soo hard saying goodbye to my litte girl today

I just adopted a senior dog and wanted to get her checked over and get advice on how to keep her healthy. The vet was super nice, took things slow. My dog actually calmed down during the appointment. She was very professional and knowledgable. While in the foster system my dog had a lump removed, and the vet is following up to get the pathology results from that lump, which were missing from the medical documents I had. I am very pleased with the decision to make Halifax Veterinary Hospital our family vet.

Really friendly, seemed like they really cared about our dogs. When we had an emergency, mystery illness, they were immediately available and included us in what was going on. Probably not the cheapest vet in the city, but the care has been well worth it. We kept them even when we moved outside of the downtown core, and are still using them now that we're back. Highly recommend.

Chris Zulinov

They take great care of my dog, however they are definitely one of the most expensive vets in the city.

My cat had chronic kidney disease. I was given the wrong IV fluids 3 times over the course of 2 1/2 years as well as wrong IV lines countless times. (They were always running out) When it was close to the end I asked if a vet would call me as I just had some very simple questions but they never did, I had to go elsewhere and find a vet to come to me. Very disappointed.

I brought my cat in to be checked due to excessive vomiting. They told me she was completely healthy, and fine and that it must just be something she ate. They then continued to giving her an anti-nausia shot, and pills for symptoms without asking me, nor telling me the cost. In the end I walked out knowing my cat is actually healthy, and a $158 bill....

This clinic does okay work; they're quite average and provide adequate care but that is not the problem. The issue is that they consistently overcharge and push medications or treatments that are much cheaper elsewhere. A procedure that they quoted "on the low end" for over $1400 was almost half at another clinic nearby, and my pet is happy regardless. I told them that I wouldn't be needing their tick/flea medication, since they charge 1.5x what it costed to buy online, and they were visibly upset like I had overstepped my bounds trying to save money. Do not take your pet here for extended care.

I moved to Halifax and this was one of two vets that was recommended - I have 2 cats. I had an emergency situation with my one cat and the vet saw me promptly - was nice, efficient and patched my kitty up, no problem. I had no complaints. I went in a few months later with my second cat who had a stinky mouth. She has had bacterial infections before and I assumed a simple round of antibiotics were in order. After a pleasant discussion with the vet tech, the vet came in, took a quick look at my cats mouth, told me it was aggressive cancer, my cat had 1-2 months tops to live and there was no treatment except pain management. She was very curt and insensitive and did not bother to tell me anything about the cancer, management, etc. She walked out, left me (bawling) in the room and I never saw or heard from her again. I was shellshocked by the news and I went and sought a second opinion elsewhere. The second vet took time to speak with me, told me about competing diagnoses, and administered a steroid treatment that could help shrink whatever was in my cat's mouth. That vet followed-up with me very regularly to monitor my cat's progress. Long story short, it's 9 months later, my cat is still alive and whatever mass was under her tongue has disappeared, no thanks to the Halifax Vet Hospital (Note: I opted against a biopsy because my cat is very senior so I can't say if it was cancer that is in remission or if it was a harmless tumor ). Bottom line: I found the Halifax Veterinary Hospital to be extremely insensitive, dismissive, and unwilling to properly treat my cat. I wouldn't recommend this vet.

Not impressed! I get the last Vax. for my Chihuahua! And we will not be going back ever! The best vet in Halifax no! I disagree!????

Kit Rowlands

I have an extremely anxious dog, and he used to be terrified of the vet, but since I started taking him here, he has calmed way down, and I can tell he loves the staff, especially Emily. My dog has been looked after by all the different veterinarians that work here, and all of them have been kind, empathetic, and very gentle. All the other staff members are amazing, too. I really feel good about bringing my dog here, as I know every visit he learns to trust people a little bit more. They also offer helpful advice over the phone, and connect you with literature and resources to help you feel supported in caring for your pet. Also, they cost less than other animal clinics or hospitals I've tried in the past. I would only take my dog elsewhere if this place was closed. Totally recommend. I have complete confidence in everyone at Halifax Veterinary Hospital.

Great staff, great hospital!

akajeremy777

Very very professional staff, they make my puppy feel very safe when visiting. The vet literally got on her hands and knees to play with him and help him relax on his first few visits. Really appreciated that. I will say that they are very popular, and a down side to this is that it can be hard to get an appointment in. However, they are professional and when it seems like there is an issue that is more urgent than they have time for an appointment they don't hesitate to recommend other locations to call to make sure your pet gets seen. I feel like it is unfair to fault them for this because they only have so much capacity and are humans trying to do the best job they can.

I stepped on my 7 month old cats foot and he was sore and babying his foot for a couple days. I decided to bring him in to see if he needed any X-rays. They were able to fit us in despite the late call and were really great at answering my questions and concerns. I was grateful that the vet didn't push the X-rays when she felt his foot and decided it was unnecessary to take any pictures. There was no pressure in the appointment and I felt that the vet genuinely cared about my cat. Overall I would recommend this clinic to a friend as our experience was great. The receptionist and vet techs were friendly and helpful. Thanks for helping my little guy feel better!

Skoo Zi

Terribly judgemental. We tried to make an appointment for our kitten to get fixed, they asked for her vaccination records. We told them she doesn't have vaccination records then they replied with a snippy no vaccination records? Where did you adopt her from and then seemed to look down on us because we adopted her from someone who's cat got pregnant and had a litter of kittens. I don't know where they think the kittens in shelters come from, or why getting them directly from the family is not proper but it certainly makes me want to avoid that vet at all costs.

Jennie Cooper

Halifax vet on Quinpool road is by far the best of a few vets I've visited in Halifax. Great staff, always seem to successfully troubleshoot issues I've had with my dog's health. With careful practice, they were open to seeing me during COVID-19 when others weren't. This is huge to me! Although my dog wasn't in a life threatening situation, he was still struggling and I'm so thankful for their help.

I took my cat here because it was the closest available vet to where I live. The treatments and vets are decent, but the clinic itself is severely overpriced in terms of food and medicine. They also do not offer any kind of payment plans, unlike other vets I have dealt with in the past. This is not ideal and extremely stressful for full time students, such as myself. I will be switching to more an affordable vet despite the loss of convenience in terms of location.

Thomas MacDonald

Absolutely phenomenal vets and assistants, so friendly and caring. Gave my sweet cat 2 shots and a microchip and I don't even think she knows she went to the vet! Outstanding.

Hi. So today my partner and I brought our 8 week old kitten in to the vet hospital to get his shots.Prior to today I have mostly good experiences at this spot. We dropped him off at 9:30 am and they told us it would only be about 15-30 minutes. We figured we'd just sit and wait outside seeing as they said it would be so quick. We waited two hours and it happened to be a pretty cold morning. When I called to make the appointment the person I spoke to on the phone gave me the price of everything, saying it would be 75$ for a check up and roughly and extra 6$ for shots, with everything we were looking at about 100$. Also when I spoke to them on the phone, the person asked if they had my proper phone number on file, and I said no and gave them my new telephone number. I asked very clearly that if during the check up anything came up that would cost anymore than the 100$ they had told me, to give me a call and we could discuss. So after waiting outside in the cold for two hours and not hearing back we decided to go stand by the door (The place is currently closed to go in but they are meeting people at the door due to Covid). A lady came out to help another customer and asked if we were waiting for something and we told her yes and she said "Oh we have been trying to get a hold of you for a while now" and she proceeded to read to me the phone number that I told them was no longer the correct number - an honest mistake that I could have looked past but then she brought out the receipt. Apparently they decided to do tests that I had not been informed about, when i very clearly asked them the price and told them I had a budget. But then they came out and presented to us a bill that was over 200$. I tried to tell them I felt the lack of communication and organization was unfair and the woman I spoke to completely disregarded what I was saying and handed me the debit machine. Maybe for some people the extra fees aren't a huge deal, waiting in the cold for hours rather than 15-30 minutes is fine, and the vet proceeding to do tests to your pet that you weren't informed about after clearly stating you'd like to be informed is just fiiiine. I have only written maybe one other review for a business before in my life, but I was really disappointed with the complete lack of communication during this experience. We were obviously going to show up for our cat sooner rather than later if they continued to make us wait, we were also sitting directly across from the shop so they could see that we were there. It's okay for the miscommunication on my phone number (though if you are working at a place that a phone number makes all the difference in how much the customer will be charged you should be very on top of it!), but charging over 100$ extra and being completely careless about that was pretty frustrating. I don't want this to discourage people from going to this spot because again, I've also had some good experiences here. But I just want the business to be more mindful of charging extra fees that some of us might not be able to fit into our budget at the moment (wondering what would have happened if I just didn't have that extra money??). Thanks for reading and sorry for the bad review but this wasn't a fair experience ! Please get more organized !

The only reason I went here is because my cat was unable to urinate and the only way I could pay for any treatment was American Express which most places wont take. For a total bill of $600 + I would expect a firm diagnosis instead of a bunch of maybes, should be, probably and cant rule this out but its hard to say. Overall it felt way more like a business then a place that generally cares about your pet. Recommend...Clayton Park Vet...on Lacewood. But overall , my cat is peeing like a trooper now and looks much better. For that I am grateful.

Everybody in the Halifax Veterinary Hospital loves animals. The vets (I know Dr Croft best) are knowledgeable and kind to my cats, but they are also aware of costs and they always give choices for treatment. I have taken my pets there for 30 years. 5 years ago, after I moved, I took my cats to a new closer vet, but quickly came back again to Halifax Veterinary Hospital because of their wonderful care.

Shawn Mosher

I had to give a star to post this. In my opinion they don't even deserve that. We went to Halifax Veterinary Hospital with our animals for about 13 years. There was about a 5 year gap in using their services between us losing our last geriatric cat and adopting our current dog. As soon as we adopted our dog 2 years ago, we knew Halifax Vet would be his vet too. For 2 years, we had no major problems, and were happy with the level of treatment they provided him. On Jan 4/19, our dog was attacked by another dog and severely hurt. I called Halifax Vet shortly after the attack to let them know we were on our way to them with an emergency and explained what happened, and was happening with our dog...by this time he was bleeding a lot and having difficulty breathing. The person who answered the phone replied that they were "busy" and to "take him somewhere else." No suggestions where to take him, no understanding or compassion...nothing! We told them this was an emergency, but was told again they were "too busy". We were shocked! We had to find somewhere else to take him. We ended up going to another clinic, not an emergency clinic, that went out of their way to help us and performed emergency surgery on our dog. They went above and beyond in his care and treatment! We walked in off the street, never been there before, and this new clinic helped us! Took us in and saved our dog. Halifax Veterinary Hospital didn't even care our dog was hurt! and after being patients there for 2 years with our current dog, and almost 11 years prior. I called Halifax Vet the next day to speak with the Manger to complain. I was told she was out until Monday and would call me then. After I left the message, I found out Halifax Vet started calling the emergency clinics and other late night clinics that could have treated my dog the night before in an attempt to get an update on what had actually happened to him, and his status. To me, that was their way of covering their tracks once they knew how bad our dog had been hurt and how upset we were by their treatment. I have since found out Halifax Vet is no longer family owned, but is owned by some big company that owns a number of clinics. Shame really, they used to be great, now I have to say they are horrible!

QUALIKATS ADVENTURES “QUALIKAT” !

This Clinic is 100% in it to milk you for as much money as possible. We had a cat with hyperthyroidism. After over one year on pills nothing changed. Dr slater now of 4paws. So avoid there as well. Never once told us about alternative radio isotope therapy that would take care of the issue. After to long the cat got sick with other cancer and it’ was pointless to get the treatment that could have extended her life and well being. DO NOT USE THIS CLINIC OR ANYTHING DR EMMA SLATER IS INVOLVED IN.
