The staff made one of the hardest days of my life comfortable and I thank them from the bottom of my heart
Our cats are not just pets, they are our family and the heart of our household. We couldn’t imagine trusting their well being to anyone else! We lost our oldest to kidney disease last year and the kindness, respect and love they all showed us at a very difficult time will never be forgotten... ❤️
The staff is amazing. They go above and beyond to care for any visitor and I would choose them for my family of critters EVERY time. No matter the cost
Got my puppy in and out fast, very friendly and animal lovers.
Thank you for being so kind to my friends and I. You are all very nice humans.
Rude front counter staff. Pricing was not up front. Lots of "add-ons". Overpriced. Fear-like sales tactics. Maybe that's it...it felt more like we were being sold, rather than having our dog cared for. There was a bad vibe right from the start. The vet seemed nice and sweet, despite being new-ish (I would guess) -- I felt bad for her working in a business being managed like this. Ended up going with a local vet closer to home towards Lake Echo/Lawrencetown. They've been amazing, compassionate and understanding. It's been a much better vibe all around!
While I have yet to meet anybody there in person, due to the lockdown, they made our limited interactions pleasant and helpful.
This was my vet clinic for the last 14 years, and I could not give any higher praise to the staff that work here. Always clear and professional, and never have I had a bad experience with any of the staff here (current or past). I had a very sick kitty when he came into my life in 2003, less than a year old, we dealt with several operations and near heartbreak, but Companion saved him, and nicknamed him "the miracle kitty". Over the course of the years, because of his condition when he was a kitten, my kitty was chronically ill, and any time we had problems, or questions, the staff at Companion were there to help. Fast forward to this year, my little guy lived a very happy and fun filled life. The staff at Companion were there for us and gave him every single one of his 9 lives and made them worth it. When "the time" came last week, they were very thorough with his last appointment, and made sure we knew what was going on and as I had known deep down, it was that time, and it had come. Dr. Osbourne was very kind and compassionate as well as the rest of the staff who helped us that day. I cannot thank Companion enough for what they did for my little guy over the years, and I'm sure if my miracle kitty could have spoken, he would've thanked them, too.
Great experience very reasonably priced. Great follow up. Thanks for Great service
I have been taking my pet ratties here for a few years now and the folks at Companion have been very knowledgeable and skilled with treating. But the level of care and customer service goes above and beyond! They are so helpful, kind and handle my boys delicatelly I recommend to anyone with exotic pets or otherwise to seriously consider this place.
I was a client of Don Slaunwhite for 11 years. Since I got my first puppy in Nov of 2003. I knew him from our children playing hockey together. All this time I was a loyal client. I only seen Dr Bishop about vaccines because I disagreed on yearly shots and for nutritional councelling as I would not feed the dry food the clinic sells. It is not quality food. On the 11th of 2015 I took Linus in because his leg had swelled and he was limping. He had a lump in his leg area but he was covered in lumps and cysts that had been tested and found benign. Don did a biopsy and sent us home to wait. Through the night the needle site slowly split and Linus started to bleed...slowly at first. I bandaged it but it split more. By morning it started to bleed a lot and I rushed Linus back to Don. He told me Linus's biopsy was negative so he would remove the tumour and call me when done. I also asked him to remove another surface lump and left. When I picked Linus up Don told me he had bad news. He said when he got Linus opened up he discovered Linus had extensive aggressive cancer that had spread into his groin and he could not remove it. That even an amputation would not work as it was spread so far. He did not remove any of the mass at all. Just stitched his fragile skin and gave him back to me. In less than 12 hours most of the stitches had pulled away leaving a hole and the inside of Linus's leg visible. He was on pain meds and antibiotics and I was told to come for daily bandage changes ($15-25/day). I asked for someone to show me how as I could not afford to keep that up but they never did. I went to the pharmacy and bought supplies and began to do the bandages myself for a couple days then to the vet on the third. About a week into this Dr Decarful told me she thought that it was not humane to keep Linus alive. That dogs were good at hiding pain. Meanwhile Linus was wagging his tail and eating and happy...except for the hole in his leg. I refused to euthanize him and said I wanted other treatment options. She finally told me about table sugar dressings. Just plain sugar in the wound. It took me about 12 weeks but the sugar dressings worked and the hole healed. This was one of the worse experiences of my life and I was still waiting for Linus to die. A couple of months later The tumour swelled up a lot. He was not in pain but it made him tire if he tried to walk or play. Don said he could do nothing. I went to another vet for a second opinion in May but Don would not send the entire file so nothing was recommended. Finally in September I thought to go to Dr Bishop again. When she seen Linus she said she was pretty sure she could remove the mass and if not at least debulk it and improve his quality of life. She did this the next day and also removed the other lump I mentioned. When the pathology report came back I was stunned to hear there was no cancer. It was a fatty tumour. Totally curable. Now removed. I waited until Linus and I were totally healed (I was in a car accident in Nov/15) and on Jan 6th I took Linus's file and pathology report to Don. I asked him to please explain why I had been put through this when it was not even cancer. He was pretty reluctant to discuss this. However when I asked for a refund of the money I paid him he said " there is no way to even be certain this is the same tumour". I was stunned. I asked how it could not be the same tumour and he said "I debulked some of the original". This is a complete fabrication and I told him so. At this point he took a copy of my papers and said he would get back to me. He has not contacted me by mail, phone nor email. I am angry that Linus and I were subjected to this and then treated to lies after the fact. If you love your pet I hope you take our experience into consideration. Karen Antle.
Very helpful , we had a cat to be put down
The staff here are great, they are helpful and remember us every time we come in.
This is a good place to take your pets for the medical needs. The staff is great and caring. It's also a good spot to get your special needs pet food. They have some of the best prices in town. They have a good COVID setup where you order by phone, prepay via e-transfer or credit card. Call them when you get there and they bring your order to you. Thanks Companion!
I have been here for the best types of visits and the worst types, and I have always found Dr. Slaunwhite and his staff to be respectful, helpful, honest and compassionate. Everything that you would want in a vet and then some. I've been going to them for 15 years now and I still go there despite living all the way across the city.
This animal hospital was absolutely great and the staff were fantastic!!
Excellent service and better pricing than most vets in this area.
Our favorite pack dr lives here. Lovely staff.
When we went we received amazing care from Dr Slauenwhite. He went above and beyond for my daughters cat. I would highly recommend him as a veterinarian.
Dr. Slaunwhite and his team are amazing. Professional friendly and knowledgeable. He took us in at really short notice. So grateful.
Beyond frustrating trying to buy something for the first time over the phone as you stand outside in the cold.
Friendly and knowledable staff, they've been looking after my kitties for years.
Friendly staff make scary situations easier.
Every time I've taken my pets (Lab, Cat, Kitten) I've received impeccable service. They're caring, kind, thorough, and beyond helpful. Their rates are competitive and I feel that my animals are in great hands when visiting or having to leave them for any service. Thank you to the team, from reception, assistants, and vets for the great job you do.
Don and Staff have been caring for all our dogs since opening many years ago. They have walked with us through tragedy and joy and are very good at talking to the "parents".
Brought our pet bunny here because he was sick, the vet before we went here gave him 2 weeks antibiotics... (I normally went to companion for my other animals) the first time coming (with bun) I got dr Chelsea decarufel we told her our rabbit had a SNEEZE , watery nose (when looking these symptoms up it come back to PASTURELLA "SNUFFLES" ) That's all he had was a sneeze /runny nose , she listened to his breathing and said she everything sounded clear , the night before I posted on a rabbit group what I should ask the vet , some said ask for them to do a bacterial culture & some said bloodwork I asked the vet to do this but she said he's fine and basically insisted to go home stop worrying. So we went home , one month later we went back he was still sneezing and had a watery nose I got a different vet , this time we went to the vet because of GI stasis another sign of PASTURELLA , We got dr . Nolan Osborne , we told him everything was happening and he also passed IT OFF , but he treated our bunny for the gi stasis and gave him sub q fluids,& cisapride for him to start pooping again , he said that after meds were done we should get an X-ray done to make sure all the gas in his belly was gone , so a week later we did that but asked if they could also get a full body image and a head image to check his teeth incase that's why he was sneezing but when we received the phone call we were told on the phone he had no gas and his teeth were fine BUT THAT HE HAD THREE SPOTS ON HIS LUNGS so they wanted to send it away to a "SPECIALIST " which got me because they should be able to read a X-ray , anyways they sent it away and they said they wanted to treat for pneumonia so they did a 2 week course of antibiotics, then the specialist called back and they called us to say the specialist and them thought greatly that it was pneumonia and that it was treatable but required a longer course of antibiotics and put him on another 8 weeks (making 2 moths of antibiotics) .... then we went back for a follow up X-ray and The spots where worst and were going to try another 2 months of antibiotics, I called and the VET TEC to get her to ask the vet a few questions or see if we could try another flavour of medication as he was getting picky of banana the VET TEC was interested in what was wrong we talked told her the question for the so called "VET" and she says something about our bunny possibly having a rabbit disease called "SNUFFLES" aka pasturella , the vets still thought there was NO WAY ... so a month into those new antibiotics we woke up aug 11 to go to the family cottage to see family etc and I went to give him breakfast and a treat he didn't come which was weird I thought maybe he was tired so I went to use the computer and it's over by his house where he was hiding (his cage was 5' wide x 15' long) I could hear him breathing weirdly so I went into his cage only to find him white at the mouth and struggling to breath . At this point we rushed him to a vet closer to us where we heard a rabbit/Exotic vet worked at (8am) she knew he had PASTURELLA right from taking him out my arms ... she didn't even need to take an X-ray but when she faxed over his from companion she said they should have known he had pasturella right from the first "3 spots" . My problem now is companion knew I had 16 other animals in my home and all the time I mentioned PASTURELLA they didn't say anything knowing now it's highly contagious , I've spent over 782.96$ spent at this vet clinic they have no knowledge , we have 3 other animals in our home now SICK and sneezing . We should have been given more information they didn't even bother to show us his X-RAYS they sugarcoated his DIAGNOSIS Made it seem easy and treatable the vet we seen in the emergency SAID they should have known it was pasturella and that it was NOT TREATABLE... I don't believe this vet should be treating exotics. I've never had a bad experience until now
Great staff and wonderful atmosphere! Our bunny was well taken care of.
I was here a few years ago for my hedgehog and highly recommend Companion Animal Hospital. They seemed very friendly and knowledgeable. I was even offered to use donated medicines from other places, that lowered my vet bill a bit.
Rude, uncompassionate and not up to date on the latest medical practices. Dont risk your family members health take them some wheres else's.
Great with my birds.
Been going here many many years . Knowledgeable staff from front desk..techs and doctors. Compassionate always. Ps..my old dog in most of my pictures for this review..
Just had tonput my American Eskimo Miniature down and they were awesome and sent me a card with my dogs paw print The staff is friendly and very knowledgeable Safety is very important to them
Very good service
Great help but wait times for exotics is far to long
Staff was rude and unprofessional, seemed much more concerned about the money than anything else. Would not reccomend this vet at all.
We have had incredible care from all the vets and staff at Companion Animal Hospital over the past 15 years. Their compassion and love for animals is apparent in all they do. Dr. Slaunwhite is fantastic and we highly recommend this clinic
Very compassionate staff, wonderful place to bring your pet.
Their nice
Super accommodating and patient, even when I called 4 different times like a fool, and they really do care about the animals they treat. The pricing is what you'd expect for a vet, not outrageous, not super cheap. I have only gone twice but each time there were no issues. Wish I could have given a tip or something haha. Especially with Covid and stuff going on, their priority is safety. Thank you!
Best clinic
Dr. Slaunwhite & Dr Zwicker are Fantastic! They have always given us the best care and I trust them with my animal babies 100%
Friendly staff, lots of Covid protocols, good work
Very friendly staff and good supply of pet food
If there was less than 1 star I would have gone with that. The glaring red flag should have been the woman complaining to the recptionist that the vet was only trying to make a buck off her dog on my first trip in there with my new puppy. I kept an open mind and brushed it off because I had a Terrier/Shelty mix that I had brought to them for years prior and they had been great with her. She was a good dog though and never had any health issues other than regular maintenance. The second I needed a veterinarian's advice aside from the regular maintenance they could not have been worse. Argued with me for a half an hour telling me I was mistaken for trying to get my dog's existing yeast infection treated as opposed to taking their advice to do xrays for a possible obstruction that as they put "could explain a mysterious underlying cause". Not bad enough they led me in the completely wrong direction but then they charged me for a full exam "because I did take up the vets time" (when it was the second follow up for the same infection that for the second time they overlooked) they added an antihistamine (which she was going to charge me for) for my dog when 2 days earlier she told me benadryl was fine, even though my dog didnt need either. When I asked why the vet said she just thought it would be nice. DO NOT BRING YOUR PETS HERE, unless you have a degree and know full and well what is wrong with your animal. If you have to rely on their advice you will spend thousands and leave with your pet in the same pain. They don't care. Before you write this off as I did with the woman before me let me say I am perfectly fine to pay to have my dog treated and I am aware it is costly. That being said paying thousands for a Vet that gives bad advice, argues with me AND doesnt treat my animal is not something I will ever do again. Weste Animal hopsital came WAY better rocommended than these guys. I recommend you try them if you're local, I am definitely happier I did.
Great staff and impressed with the follow up phone call to check on my dog after surgery once she was home
Good vet. Like the follow up
Staff is friendly and I haven't had any problems yet with bringing my girl there. Pic cause she's cute.
Always able to fit us in even when they're busy, knowledgeable and friendly staff
Always great service. They truely care about the animals. Pocket post rated one star, but they definitely do not deserve one. They are fantastic. I recommend fully.
Excellent service. Good prices. Cat is always happy!
Nice to animals. Maybe staff is a little overwhelmed by appointment volume?
After $1000 dollars worth of tests, drugs, day visits, etc. The vet feels there are more tests that can be done, even though they now think our cat may be having stress related issues. An X-ray, an ultrasound, anti-depressants, and so on and so forth. This place gives all vets a bad name, for their poor service and their focus on draining every possible penny out of anyone unfortunate enough to go there to get help for their pets. If we can deter even one person from going here to have their pets taken care of, it will be a good day. Now to go and get our cat's records and head to another clinic who has far better reviews. Our fault for knowing one of the vets back in the day and thinking that the service was as good as it was 20 years ago.
This has been the most amazing vet clinic I’ve been too, I have rats and it’s hard finding a good clinic for pocket pets! They have been nothing but exceptional with all my babies and very knowledgeable!
The care the customer service is above and beyond Dr Osborne is a wonderful and compassionate veterinarian I hope will remain at the hospital
Only liked going to Slaunwhite. The people at the front counter are awful and extremely rude.
Good service close to home
Treated my animals and me like we were family
Very compassionate staff. They take good care of our pets.
Dr. Slaunwhite has gone above and beyond for our puppy, we feel very lucky to have him as our vet.
Always a good experience. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable .
Great experience; and very professional staff
Just putting my mind at ease is a relief. Thank you
I had a scare with my cat and was frantic. The front desk calmed me down, assured me it would be ok and that we'd get my cat in the next day. Next day we got her in. With covid restrictions, I talked to the vet, explained what was going on and was walked through the options. It was a great way to ensure everyone was safe and my cat would get proper care. I dropped her off at the door and waited while she was examined. The vet called and gave me an update. Told me what he was doing and how to proceed. I didn't feel like I was being rushed or that any if my questions were weird. After that, paid over the phone so we could all be safe and picked up my cat. I was very happy with the service and professionalism and safety without compromising on care
Wish I could put zero stars. They care was great when Dr. Slaunwhite was out vet, he has retired and a new younger group has taken over. They are incompetent inexperienced, and actually tried to me to spay my 6 month old giant schnauzer. Large breed dogs need hormones to develop and should not be spayed until they are fully grown. Dr. Ducarefur knows nothing of this and just repeats what was in her textbook from school
Have experience rudeness, arrogance and not a very friendly environment. Too much attitude at this location. They make you feel uncomfortable. I go elsewhere now
Great visit everytime.
It was cllean and the staff was friendly . Cost me too much to tell me my animal was stressed, which I already knew.
Dr. Slaunwhite was amazing. He and his staff took excellent care of our cat George. And although the clinic was forced to temporarily close due to potential covid exposure and he was in isolation at home, he kept in constant touch with us checking in once or twice daily to see how George was doing. He was kind, reassuring and knowledgeable. Thank you so much Dr. Slaunwhite!
Just bought food. Friends pet was misdiagnosed and passes away. Would not use the vet service
Always respected these guys over the yrs❤
NEVER will I ever be going to this vet again. Absolutely unfair service after I had been in for multiple appointments trying to diagnose a palliative condition. Only to have the SPCA called on me because we didn't give my dog morphine. No communication what so ever, just a notice to comply on my door. I was able to talk with the SPCA which was very understanding. But after multiple attempts to contact the manager at companion, we were simply shut down. The only explanation was that we were not taking care of our pet and then she hung up on us. I have since seen other vets that have given us an alternative to the heavy sedative medication that was initially prescribed. This practice was totally unprofessional, lacked proper communication and compassion. I want to make this situation aware to other pet owners. I have never experiences such an unethical situation in my life.
They injured and terrified my cat. A tech walked into the exam room and announced "I just petted a doggy!" while staring into my cats eyes and splaying her hands. A very stupid thing to do around a nervous animal. Then she slammed my cat's head and body onto the exam table. The vet, who instigated the whole thing, did nothing to stop the tech. My cat bit her tongue and her nose bled. It was horrifying and unnecessary. I was never even offered an apology. That tech should not be working with animals. My cat was never the same after -- She became (justifiably) terrified of going to the vet or in her carrier. Edit: It wasn't recent and it's interesting they're offering to talk about it now that it's on a public space. When it happened they brushed me off - twice.
Staff is friendly & wonderful with the animals
The vet was very short and unfriendly. I felt i was a burden for taking my dog in for an ear infection. I felt uncomfortable.
Bought dog food for my dog who has been sick
Best experience I've had at any Vet in Hrm, bar none.
Excellent vet helpful staff
These people are so great with our cat. Thankfully, we've only had to visit a couple times but I love how compassionate they are. They really care for the animals they treat. As a bonus, using their services doesn't break the bank, either, which is tough to find with a city veterinarian clinic. As long as we live in the area we will continue to come here and recommend it to our friends and family for their companions.
Very caring staff
Not very good experience since covid was just looking for a bad of dog food and was hung up on twice not allowed into the store
Wonderful staff! Very friendly and inviting to both the animals and clients.
Professional and efficient.
Started taking my dog there when we moved to the area. The vets and all the staff have been wonderful and helpful. We’ve always had a great experience and even the pup loves going there!
Not impressed. Overpriced.
My dog needed care, because we hadn't been there. They turned us away.
Dr. Slaunwhite is the Best!! He really cares about his patients.
Terrible service.
BEWARE** They are the worst I have ever seen. They charge up to $700 to spay a DOG!!! They wanted an extra $300 for the Dog being over 6 months old. I can’t believe they are allowed to do business. Shame on them. They are the reason people fear vets. I hope karma puts theses greedy people out of business!
Had been using this place periodically for my cat over the years, had not taken him there for quite a while but did last year. My cat was puking and pooping everywhere. Staff was rude as hell, said my cat needed blood and urine samples and costed me over $700. Nothing came up so they told me they needed to run more tests, prob another $700, I declined. Not once did they ask me about the cat's diet but did offer up their special cat food to buy lol. I figured out changing a cat's food that they have been eating for years can really mess them up if done suddenly. Changed his food back and he was fine. Horrible experience, need a vet right now actually so I'm looking elsewhere.
Good Drs but expensive.
Called them to order special dietary food for my cat and they said no problem. After not hearing from them for three weeks I called back and was told it was never ordered. They asked if I still needed it and I did, the woman on the phone said she'd leave a message for the manager to order it the next day. It's been a month since the second call and I still haven't heard from them. Luckily Vetwise was able to get it in in two days.
Have dealt with this vet for over 14 years with all our animals, our dog is older and started to become lethargic and not eating. We had a planed vacation and our daughter was watching her. She became worse....we are away and told her to call our vet. They were open, this was not after hours... and she was told they cant see her for days....she can go to the animal hospital or call around to other vets! Very cold, very very unprofessional. I Understand it is Covid and it is by appointment, but as an existing customer they could have squeezed her in. There was little to no attempt to help her. My Daughter frantically called around...she talked to the Russel lake animal hospital and they said to bring her right in. (they were able to squeeze her in) unfortunately she was pretty sick and ended up needing to be put to sleep. This should have never gone down this way.....very little compassion.
By far the most respectful and professional vets in the HRM. I will always bring my pets.
DO NOT take your animals here if you truly care about them. not only do they have the rudest staff, but they don't care about your animals they just want your money. because of the negligence of the staff at companion my dog was diagnosed with a disease that should have been prevented by one of the requred boosters given as a puppy and this booster was not given to her when I went in asking for all of the required boosters. $2300 later, I have my puppy back to normal but this could have been avoided easily if she had just been given the REQUIRED shot.
