Brought our cat to the Cobequid Animal Hospital 2 times with in a 2 month span for the same issue. Both times feeling as though the vet was just guessing at the problem. Had no problem stacking the medication and visit fees every time. Third visit I refused to pay with out a proper examination being preformed. Was told it's a different doctor then the second time (same doctor we first saw) so we would have to pay the recheck fee again. Seems like this place only cares about getting paid and not about taking care of the animals. Now to find a new veterinarian who actually cares and knows what they are doing.

One of the best veterinary hospitals in the city. The staff are friendly. The veterinarians and vet assistants really love and care about animals. The veterinarians also don't pressure you to spend more than you can afford, they find the most efficient way possible to treat your pet and leave any major decisions to the owner. The veterinarians go above and beyond to care for your pet as well. A couple of years ago we found out our furbaby, Angel, had cancer. They gave her some pain meds and we took her back home to make her comfortable. Later that night, we saw she was suffering too much, so I called Cobequid just before they were about to close. One of the vets stayed behind to put our Angel to rest. It was the most devastating night for us, but we didn't want her to suffer all night. We really appreciate the compassion of the veterinarian and staff members that stayed behind. We were able to spend the time we needed before and after our Angel passed away. About a week later the staff had all signed a card for us with our baby's paw prints and a clipping of her hair. I'll never forget the empathy Cobequid Animal Hospital showed during this difficult time. We still miss our baby Angel very much to this day and had the card, her pawprints, her hair clipping and a picture of her framed. Our other furbabies are happy, healthy, and all still go to the Cobequid Animal Hospital for check ups and anything else they need. Even when we got our newest furbaby spayed, they kept in contact during the day as to how she was doing and they called a few times after she was brought home to check up on her. I highly recommend Cobequid Animal Hospital to everyone with pets!

I brought my dog to this facility and the Vet was so interested in selling me accupuncture that he missed the fact that he was full of cancer. I left after paying over $600 and had to take my dog to the animal hospital in burnside less than 2 months later where they diagnosed the cancer with 1 x-ray.I had to put my dog down. Not a happy customer!! This happened about 2 years ago and every time I drive by this place it makes me angry. Kirsten G; My dog suffered far longer than he had to because of this facilities rediculously greedy practices and incompetance. Inow have a new dog and I can assure you he will never ever see the inside of that building.

They were great but I am taking a star because their process is backwards, in my opinion. While they have your pet, you should be able to drive through and pay. Instead our pup had needles and then we had to wait in that drive-thru lane, while he threw up in the car. It would be better to pay while they have the fur babies. More efficient in my mind anyways.

As a new resident of Nova Scotia I chose Cobequid based on the high reviews of a Google search. I live in Dartmouth but happily drive to Lower Sackville to take my golden retriever puppy to seek the care of the Cobequid Animal hospital. From the moment you walk in the door you feel welcomed. All of the staff are friendly and caring, and you can tell they truly love animals. I've never felt rushed through an appointment and they take the time to listen to your concerns, and thoroughly explain a treatment plan if necessary. I appreciate that they they take the time to email you to check up on your pet after an appointment. Overall excellent care, would definitely recommend.

I normally wouldn't write a google review but I've got something to say about this place. Have been taking my dog here for his entire life (7 years) and in all honesty have only been wasting my time and money while causing my dog undue stress. The only reason I have continued to rely on them has been the fact that they sell Dermachlor products, which are hard to find. Thats it, the only redeeming quality that they have. My dog has been there at least a half a dozen times due to ongoing skin problems labelled as superficial pyoderma. Same routine every visit, temp check, swab belly, microscope, bacteria, that's the protocol. Have seen multiple different vets there, (avoid Macintyre at all costs) none have been able to properly treat the problem, they can alleviate it with medication, but not treat the underlying cause. Which brings me to my point, my dog has been prescribed refills for both antibiotics and Apoquel which provide relief from itching/chewing. He is currently having a break out after being relatively ok for the past year or so (I bath him a few times a month with medicated shampoo and use a topical spray on him hence the Dermachlor). Since he has not been seen in over a year they are refusing to honour his refills as to provide him with some much needed relief. After seeing and FAILING to treat him numerous times they now will not provide him the medication that he needs to at least help a little bit because "they have not seen him in the last year". I have no problem with bringing him in even though nobody at the clinic has been able to really help him however my dog cannot be dropped off for "curb-side pick up". He was traumatized when he was neutered and has since become aggressive at the vet and very difficult to handle, even for me (I've even had him professionally trained to try and help but whatever happened during that visit really scarred him). After seeing and failing to treat this condition at least 6 times it's becoming quite clear that the veterinary visits are simply money grabs at this point (I have pet insurance). I could understand if this were a new condition absolutely, but they have treated this and FAILED SIX OR MORE TIMES, they have no reason to see him again other than a cash grab, and furthermore have proved that they are unable to treat my dogs superficial pyoderma. I understand with covid things are different but in this circumstance they have basically stated they are unwilling to provide the medication that my dog has already been prescribed if they are not getting paid to do so, which they already have been again, and again, and again. I am now going to spend tomorrow trying to find a vet that will see my dog with myself present so that we can get him some relief without causing him a tremendous amount of undue anxiety. After 7 years and thousands of dollars they will not help my dog over an insignificant exam fee, and make no mistake that is all the issue is, it has absolutely nothing to do with my dogs wellbeing. I remember the first time I had him in for this issue the vet recommended one of their garbage "Hypoallergenic" foods filled with corn and potatoes, excellent nutrition for a carnivore? (Kickbacks?) I refused (I feed him Acana), that should have been my first sign to stay the hell away...especially when three visits later it turned out to be bacterial and literally zero to do with his high quality food. In the end after 7 years of my dog and I dealing with poor veterinary practice I recommend to stay far away from this place.

We brought our bunny here for about 2 years. He was having health problems and when we brought him in they did an xray and told us the only option was putting him to sleep. We weren't given any other options to do surgeries, antibiotics, anything. We took him to a vet recommended by a friend and she said there was absolutely no reason why he would have to be put down. Bunny groups on Facebook said similar things and that we should get a second opinion. I'm so glad we did. I'm disgusted by the lack of empathy and disposability they saw in my bunny. He is still young. We had only ever gone there to get his nails trimmed previously this was our first experience with actual vet care.

What a fantastic group of people! We bring our foster dog to Cobequid Animal Hospital. He has issues relating to a congenital defect, and without the support of the staff and doctors at cobequid animal hospital he wouldn't have as good a quality of life! Having never had to vet a dog other then yearly shots and checkup prior to dealing with the issues with the foster, I didnt know what to expect, or do. Dr. McIntyre and Dr. Moncayo yook the time to listen to my concerns, explain everything thoroughly and recommended steps we can take to improve his condition. The vet staff both front of house and vet techs have been nothing short of fantastic! Even during the pandemic, with hurt and nervous dog they were excellent with him, and provided excellent service to the humans involved in his care! I would recommend Cobequid animal hospital to anyone! They show that they really care about the pets well being and overall condition, and if you're willing to provide the care, they will do what ever it takes to help your animal. Thanks staff at Cobequid animal hospital for taking care of us, and of our little friend! ????

Love Dr. Moncayo, he helped keep my old dog pain free for the last 4 years of her almost 17 years of life. People were always surprised to learn how old she was cause she was a big dog and she seemed so youthful still. The staff members seem to not be as consistent they used to be but they are still helpful. That might be because I only go once a year now with my new dog not every month or so with my old one.

Completely disappointed in Cobequid Animal Hospital ! I worked there as a young teenager in the 70s ( volunteered from age 12-16 ) and I’ve taken every single one of my furbabies there! Spend thousands ! It’s an absolute shame that the veterinarians will not give a simple call back without a paid visit. Absolutely disgraceful! When you have a beloved furbaby at the end of her life sometimes you just need a little bit of guidance on next steps!  Boy things sure have changed and Dr. Bennett would not be happy right now! I took my cat here for the first time today because of the high reviews and super convenient location. I got in within two days for a checkup, and Dr Yazer was fantastic! Due to covid restrictions I had to wait in my car but the Dr called me throughout the checkup to let me know how Pickles was doing. The entire staff was super pleasant and bonded really well with my cat which was awesome. Dr. Yazer gave my cat his annual shots and monthly deworm/flea prevention as well as advise me of everything he was doing beforehand. Prices were very reasonable and I was super impressed with the service. This was the first time I’ve left a vet feeling confident that my cat is getting the best care, we’ll definitely be back!

Anyone who I have dealt with has been very professional and caring, from start to finish! I have been their client for over 25 years. We are a very active family and knowing that my dogs are healthy and in top condition, we enjoy many great activities throughout the year like hiking and dog mushing. We have had a few incidents along the way, like one getting a peach pit stuck in her which resorted to surgery, a pulled muscle in a leg which resorted to some acupuncture, hot spots, broken nail and a few other small incidents. I would give zero stars if I could. Been a client for several years and noticed the more they realized just how much we loved our cat, (right after the expensive dental cleaning they talked us into) the prices started to climb even higher. Wait times in their waiting room were getting excessive (sometimes up to 2 hours) but the most disappointing moment for us was when we realized the meds we were giving our cat wasn't the right dose. (although we were told they were.) Dr. Runnalls told us that would be the manufactures mistake if indeed it wasn't the right dose and claimed it was no fault of their office. (even though they dispense it, and we made it clear we did not want to switch to their new, cheaper pen, but were forced to.) $1000 later, we finally have him in a good place with his health, no thanks to the Doctors here. The receptionists are very kind, except for a couple who are extremely rude. Sandra, the manager not only lied to us, but swore at my husband and hung up on him as he was trying to figure this situation out with her. He then proceeded to go down to their office to speak face to face and was told she wouldn't come to the door. We ended up having to pay more money just to have a copy of our cats records and prescription. It is very clear this office only cares about you, until you have questions about things that don't match up. If you love your animal, take them somewhere else.

I've had dogs for more than 20 years and have met countless vets across Canada, and I can easily say this is the BEST animal hospital I've ever been in. The vets here are amazingly COMPASSIONATE and caring. The staff here are highly competent and exceedingly kind too. Dr Leila McIntyre cared for my dogs and helped one to pass in late 2019. She is so knowledgeable and experienced, but still so patient, compassionate and really treated me with so much respect. Her explanations were always clear and complete so I always knew what my options were. She is also a very good listener and totally empathetic. She is simply a wonderful person. Dr Jessica Thompson help ease my other dog's passing recently she is one of the most compassionate people I've ever met. Her explanations were so complete and clear it took away all uncertainties I may have had. During the process, her kind words and support were the most important thing for a heart-broken pet owner. I was completely at ease with her competency, and am forever grateful for her kindness. She is just a an amazing person. Last, but not least, the staff members here are all kind, caring and highly efficient. They always picked up the condition of my dogs and my mood right away and I am so grateful for their empathy. Somehow, they managed to find the nicest, kindest, most compassionate and caring people to work at this clinic. Thank you all.

Brought my cat in to have a two-inch cyst removed; the vet who examined him pre-surgery encouraged us to book as soon as possible. We did, and vacation from work was booked around his surgery one week later. We received a call a couple days after blocking off the time that our encouraging vet suddenly went on vacation as well and shouldered off the surgery to a vet that was not familiar with my cat. The explanation as to why we were encouraged to book ASAP and then to hear another doctor was taking over his file was owned to "Well, the vet has a life *too*." Okay. Not happy with administration. Spent the entire week trying to nail down a price for what was quoted as a "simple procedure." It came to over $500, and less than two hours before my cat's surgery, we were hit with another fee for blood work, which was optional "in case something goes wrong" (splendid verbiage). I am totally understanding of policy, but a week was spent trying to ascertain a fee from both vets, the one who suddenly went off and the new one looking after the file. Nothing was mentioned about an extra fee until the morning of surgery. Understandably, my mother and I were upset with how this was handled. Our fears and concerns about my cat's health and safety through the procedure were not assuaged; they seemed more concerned with money and acted very cavalier in the face of our questions. It took nearly three or four days for either doctor to return phone calls about fee and success rates. VET TECHNICIANS WERE AWESOME. They were genuinely caring and understanding as to how upset we were, and took their time explaining everything. They cared more than the actual veterinarians, and I wasn't impressed with front-staff attitude throughout, either.

We have been going to Cobequid Animal Hospital for many years with many pets but my last experience was not a good one at all. My dog had a hematoma on his ear so what they did was drain it but then they cauterized it so nothing could drain out. They put a cone on his head for “as long as we could keep it on him” and gave us ear drops for his ear infection. Only issue is that when you put ear drops in a dog’s ear that has problems from shaking and scratching, they will shake and scratch. The ear ended up filling back up in a few days so they said to bring him back in. We took him back in but a different vet saw him this time and he traumatized our poor pup. He didn’t sedate him and he cut his ear and left it open a bit this time to drain with a cone on. This vet took him off of the ear drops and put him on an antibiotic I believe and also some pain killers. I finally thought his ear might get better and was looking ok but the vet kept calling me and demanding me to come in for a re-check. When we went back in for the re-check my dog was terrified of the vet. He looked at his ear, said it was good and then I paid another bill and left. It was close to $900 that we ended up paying for his ear and here we are a few months later with the same problem again. The only solution at this point that the Cobequid Animal Hospital gave us was to now do a surgery on his ear which costs around $600. I decided to try another vet and explained to them the whole history. They told me that not much of anything the other vet did made sense to treat the ear hematoma. Even the surgery they talked about was considered “old school”. As soon as this new vet even sees a hematoma, they do the same procedure every time. They sedate them, drain it and put a tube in the ear for 6-8 weeks to let the ear dry out and heal, no cone, no meds. This whole procedure cost us $400 and no charge for a re-check. His ear healed in just 3 weeks and we couldn’t be happier. Do your research before any sort of operations and don’t just believe one vet.

In April of 2021, I had to bring in my 20+ year cat, who was dying. And I will say they were absolutely wonderful. And that's why I am not giving them just a single star. Now it's December 2021, and my second cat who's 17 years old, and who can barely breathe. I wanted her to pass with the same treatment my other cat got. So, I called them and was greeted by a unsympathetic and indifferent woman on the phone. Who informed me that not only did the price go up $40.00. That they were also going to charge me 95.00 first for a "quality of life assessment". But when I mentioned that I wasn't charged that for my first cat. She very bluntly told me it was at the discreation of the vet at the time. It's bad enough that you have to decide to put down something you love, but to be told that it will now cost me double, and in such an uncaring demeanor. Found another clinic, who will do the same for my 17 year old girl, for the same cost as I paid in April. Merry Christmas Cobequid. And thank you Dr. Reynolds for the care you gave back in April!

I have been to a number of veteraniary clinics with my 3 dogs and 2 cats and for one reason or another i always keep looking for better care for my animals. I now only have 2 of my dogs and I have only been with Cobequid Animal hospital for about a year and cannot imagine my life without these dedicated people. I have been through hell in the last year with one of my dogs requiring major surgery to her knee and another having to be put to rest, and every step of the way no matter which vet or tech is over seeing me or my animals they have been there as a shoulder to cry on or offer some helping and friendly advice. They have never made me feel financially pressured and even though I carry insurance have always offered me options in the event my bill were going to be through the roof. Take it from nothing in life is free and this isn’t your fly by night cheap clinic, you pay for the quality of care your furry family member receives and it is exceptional and well worth it. Keep it up guys!!

Dr. Runnals is one of the only vets I have felt that I could fully trust my dogs with. My dogs are apprehensive with strangers but from day one have had no issues with allowing her to get on the floor and poke & prod as needed. She has always gone over and above with her care for animals and the humans that love them. Last summer when my dog was severely ill and needed to stay with the cobequid crew for 3 days the staff was amazing. My dog Arlo fell in love with Skylar.
