Went there at 9pm with a 20 year old cat having bowel issues. The doctor was quick to diagnose, gave me a printed quote and when I came back in the next morning to get him the bill was actually $75 less than the quote! Stellar service, decent prices and great service. Very clear and easy to understand instructions from the vet. Would definitely recommend.

Above and beyond(as usual) with 4 Paws!!!! My senior kitty had an after hours visit last week to have her kidneys checked. Kidneys(and other organs) turned out to be fine but she has some Struvite crystals that we're working on eliminating. The team at 4 Paws could not have been more supportive - these people are saints. The level of compassionate care that is bestowed upon their pet patients and pet owners is truly astounding. They worked with my limited budget and took the time to check in with me and my cat multiple times to ensure we were comfortable. A huge thank you to last Friday's crew - to incredible Courtney who drove me home(!)[srsly above and beyond], to lovely Joey whose emotional support in the waiting area was impeccable and to the amazing Dr. Anna Swick-Coryell who has set my girl on the right track. Best pet care in the HRM - hands er.. paws down!

The experience we had with George our cat was just what was needed for his professional and compassionate care. They exceded my previous experiences with other vets. We really appreciated the warm and open opportunity to visit while he was staying there, including access to the visitors room. And there was not the pressure to keep doing more tests. 4 Paws, overall is a convenient and good vet clinic. That is to say, for routine check ups and general care of your pet, they would suffice. However in the event of an emergency, do not let the receptionist make you believe that their service can replace those of Metro Animal Emergency Clinic. Unfortunately, when you google Halifax pet ER, this is one of the top results that comes back, and if you ask "is this the vet ER" the receptionists has been told to tell you "we are a 24 hour hospital and can see your pet right away" I made that mistake earlier this year, and they were grossly unqualified to care of my dog whom sustained a relatively severe arm fracture. As stated by many others already, the vet is also never on time, my minimum wait for the vet was 30 minutes, some up to an hour, and there is frequent communication error either due to confusion, or their system is down ... which oddly enough happens a lot.

Truly 24 hour -- even for non-emergencies (so great if you need to book for odd hours, or just don't want to wait until morning). And the care our dog gets from the vets here has always been excellent. We love having our dog's chart at a local north end spot that could also handle emergency visits if needed.

My husband and I brought our cat in last night for an emergency visit and she was seen right away. We were given a quote for all the tests that were needed. When it became apparent very quickly that our cat couldn't be saved, our vet was incredibly understanding and sympathetic. We were charged less than the quoted price and guided through the process of saying good bye as gently as possible. It was a heartbreaking visit but I was so impressed with how kind and professional they were throughout. Thank you to the 4 Paws team.

I’m sorry to say this but I’m not happy at all with 4Paws Animal Hospital in Halifax NS. I had taken my dog in on Saturday night 3rd of May. I needed them to take a look at a small lump on her back leg. When the vet came her 1st comment was about my dogs weight. I told her that I know my dog is a little large and I told the vet that I’m trying to get the weight down. She then looked at the lump and said “it just looks like a skin tag and that the reason that she has been scooting a bit is because she’s too big and can’t get back there to clean herself, so she told me to get some wet wipes. They checked anal glands but everything was okay, although she suggested I bring her in every 2 months to have them expressed. She then went on for about 10 mins about how big she was, etc. I paid my $160 dollar some bill and left completely furious. I was not happy with her saying it was just a skin tag so I booked another appt with another vet for that Thursday. He cared. He took samples from the lump and said that it could be a mast cell tumour. He called later that evening and told me to give my dog some benelyn as he wasn’t really happy with what he saw on the slides and if it is this type of tumour it will be itchy and can be the cause of her scooting. Results came back the following last Tuesday and she just had surgery yesterday on the 21 May to remove it and send it of to the lab to see what grade tumour it is. Just has a call from the vet to say results are back and it was a Mast Cell Tumour. So very, very, very disappointed with 4Paws Veterinary Hospital. What would have happened if my friend hadn’t told me to get a 2nd opinion. My dog is part of our family and to just go on about her size and to be so flippant about a lump Is unforgivable. ???????? I will be complaining to the College about the unprofessional and unethical conduct of the dentist surgeon of the clinic. I brought in my cat for tartar cleaning. I was not told that 22 teeth will be extracted. The doctor did not asked for my consent and proceeded with their extraction even though they did not cause my cat pain but with the argument that these teeth will likely cause my cat pain in the future. Yes, I did pay the bill and a discount was not given. Now I have a cat who will not be able to eat hard food for the rest of his life. Not to mention complications following the surgery, How cruel and unprofessional of them. I am so angry and upset that such high level of unprofessionalism is allowed in this type of practice. While the surgeon admitted to acting unprofessionalism and not having an excuse for not consulting with me this does not make things better for us our our cat. DO NOT BRING YOUR CAT HERE.

This past weekend, I had to have one of my beloved cats euthanized, and I found that the vet who served me at this facility handled both me and my cat with the utmost care and dignity. There was no rush with anything, and every step of what would be taking place was described thoroughly by my vet. She was very caring and compassionate and answered all of my questions, and there were many. I wanted to be certain that I was doing the right thing for my cat and was not prematurely making a move that I would later regret. She assured me that she does not recommend euthanasia unless she feels it is absolutely necessary. In retrospect, I believe she was correct in my cat's circumstance. I would recommend this clinic with confidence and will access their services again in the future for my other kitties.

I'll Never step foot in this place again. I paid over $100 to be sent home with blanket medication because the vet was uneducated and unaware of what to do with my pet. I recorded phone calls of how rude and disrespectful the staff are. Avoid this place and choose another vet. Also highly overpriced if you check around.

I am so frustrated with this vet clinic and am actively switching vets this week after being a client for more than 4 years. I have spent SO. MUCH. money with them and have had my dog in there dozens of times, because he is a high maintenance dog with skin allergies, anxiety, hip displaysia and arthritis. Every vet tells me completely different information, I’ve been told “there’s nothing we can do” while another vet gives me several simple options. Most recently, my dog had a hematoma on his ear. Two different vets drained it for $130 each time, and then a third vet told me he doesn’t recommend ever draining - so it ended up being a $1,000 surgery. A couple years ago, the vet put my dog on a new medication that directly conflicted with one of his others and caused him to be extremely sick and have multiple vet and emergency visits. No apologies when it was found out that they had created the issue. Perhaps most frustrating of all, despite the fact he is an extremely regular visitor, no staff seem to know or ever remember my dog. It’s always “has he been here before?” Whenever I call or come in. Also, during my appointment today, the vet said “he won’t be around for much longer, what is he now, 11?” He is 8 years old, and this was after the vet had JUST performed a surgery on my dog. Can’t really share anything but negative experiences with this place. I continued to go here out of convenience but am switching clinics immediately after the latest experience.

I brought our kitty in early yesterday morning thinking he was chocking, turns out he was having heart failure, they took him right in and assessed him. Unfotently our little man could not be saved. But the vets were extremely compassionate they didn’t rush me in anyway and they explained every step of what had to happen. I found a cat that had been hit by a car on the side of the road actually it was in the middle of the road either way this poor cat couldn’t move manage to get a towel because we were swimming from my car wrap it in a towel put it in a box brought it to the vet sadly the cat had major trauma to the head and they did not believe that the cat would be able to survive it so it had to be put down. It was so sad. But I did feel that they were going to do whatever they had to to save it, Also they were very polite this is at almost 10 o’clock at night. I highly recommend for any animal emergency. It’s a 24 hour establishment.

Four paws is absolutely awesome! We just moved from out of province and our dog got sick they took us late in the evening and admitted him the next day for an overnight stay. We were able to call as often as we wanted to check on his status, the staff were always friendly and kind to us. Even after discharge, they were available for phone calls and questions. I'm actually genuinely surprised there are good reviews anyways. My dog took a tumble And this was the only place open so I went here the reception was OK however it sounded like they didn't really care Then they charged me $800 just for the X-ray and a further $400 for them to spend the night I understand veterinarian bills can be expensive in all but really come on and when I got my dog back they didn't do anything they instead made me pay more money for the medication $89 that they could have been giving my dog Anyways my dog turned out to be OK I brought her back a few weeks later And they tried to charge me another $800 for another X-ray because apparently they didn't know what they were doing the 1st X-ray you know that's great. Anyways When I 1st went here my original estimate was only $800 for everything instead I paid a over $1289 plus tax And my dog was supposed to go for a monthly follow up on the 3rd I called easily 5 times and have yet to get a call back so I guess my dogs not going back It's probably for the best because the medication I got wasn't done properly and all the measurements or off some of the doses I was actually giving my dog too much even though they were pre measured It's a good thing I noticed before anything bad happened anyways I found it to be quite unprofessional I do appreciate how they did answer all the questions I had but again it didn't sound like they cared about my time.

They have taken such good care of my pup. He had to have surgery and they didn't care that I called a hundred times. Always up front about costs, and never once felt pushed into doing anything unnecessary. He loves to be next to people and they were so sweet and took him to sit at the desk for a while, which shows how much they care. I know he's not in the clear yet, but I feel good that if he can't be with me, he's in the best care possible. HIGHLY recommend this place. I will never take him anywhere else.

Best experience with a vet I've ever had 24HR Vet - It's so important to have access to a 24 hr vet in town. They answered my call at 6am, and I arranged to go in a couple hours later on a Sunday morning. The fees are not more than you would expect at another clinic and the call, receptionist and the vet were all wonderful to deal with. Visit - I sometimes dread going to the vet, because I know I have made budgetary choices not to do all the things for my pup. The vet was free of judgement, and while being realistic with her own concerns for my dog, assured me that it was clear that this was a well cared for dog. We had a very realistic conversation about treating symptoms vs underlying issues, cost and responsibly to take care of the dog's comfort. It was gentle, full of understanding and straight shooting. Money Talks - One of the most uncomfortable things about visiting the vet is understanding financial ramifications up front. Eveyr time I go, I anticipate a $300 bill, and that's a massive amount for my young family's budget. The folks understood budgets are a reality, and they started the conversation, so that I didn't have to be the one bring it up. They brought my a quote for what they anticipate the day's treatments to come to sign before starting treatments. At the end of the day, the clinic is also affordable, despite being a 24 hours clinic. I am deeply grateful for the care we got from 4 Paws Clinic. I reccommend them to anyone looking for warm, compassionate care.

Brought in my small chihuahua in Oct 9, because neck & eye swollen and itchy over his entire body. Figured it was an allergy but wanted to make sure. Front desk got us in quickly when we called and saw Dr Fuller. Young doctor and helpful. Confirmed prob. Allergy. Overall good experience. I will say I was nervous and was overloaded with info and just wanted to confirm if no change overnight....she didn't like that because she gave me a look and said..."Again...if no overnight change...etc etc". My husband also recognized this. It was after 11pm. We were all tired. At same time thankful it was open 24hrs.

They are open 24 hours which is great! If you live in Halifax you don't need to go to the emergency clinic in Dartmouth. Their exam fee is reasonable, and the doctors nice, however, like most city vets their services are not cheap and you need to be prepared to spend a lot of money. I had my cat in when something was wrong with her and for an IV it cost $89 just to put the needle in. The actual fluid was extra. Also an overnight stay at the clinic almost another hundred dollars. I realize they need to cover expenses and make money too but it makes it hard for the average working person to take their pets to the vet for care when each single thing costs so much.

Every single person I met in person or spoke with on the phone was so kind and patient, and always more than happy to check up on my boy and get a progress report for me, no matter what time it was. I got my Puppy Hope on Friday and she was very sick with diarrhea and blood in her stool! Took her here they immediately made use both feel like at home, looked at Hope to see what issues were and things to do! Answered a lot of my questions as Hope is my first dog! I would highly recommend using them, they had to keep Hope over night for tests I’m sure she felt st home as she was cuddling up with all the wonderful staff and doctors!

will never go there again! came in on an emergancy with a baby kitten that seemed to be dizzy, they were asking for 700 bucks for a few test and stay over night, i couldint afford the 700 but told them we have 300 thats all can u help with that? they said no ! so they told me i would have to sign my kitten over to them meaning i will not have her back, after telling them no im not signing my kitten over and no i caint afford the 700 bucks i would like to go home and phone around to other vets in hopes to finding one who will help for the 300 bucks that i have, brittni the vet nerse then said she calling spca if i dont hand over the kitten!! at 610 pm my kitten came around and have some water then played with her brother the other kitten and she was back to normal, 3 days later the spca showed up!! they checked my place out an my animals and seen they were all healthy and feed and watered good! i now no i will never go to 4paws after the b.s they caused and how unreasonable and rude they became after hearing i was going to another vet who could help me with what i have! turns out she was just alittle dehidrated and that was it!! 4paws is a money scam and totaly unreasonable to help or even attemt to work with some one with low income!!! they are to quick to call spca over money instead of actually carring for an animal and tryign to work somthing out with the owners :(

I took my pet here once and don't think I will again as they try to push food on you for prescription diets which is a waste of money because all the food they carry is either Royal canin or Hills prescription diet which actually is a very low quality food full of grains and gluten and things cats don't need and dry food doesn't help with kidney issues it promotes kidney problems because dry food is basically void of moisture and cats need moisture in their diet. Also this veterinarian uses injectable convenia antibiotic which is dangerous for pets because if they have an allergic reaction to it you can't get it out of their system like you can with oral antibiotics. Also they make you wait too long even if you have an appointment and then the doctor doesn't even come in and talk with you or call back with updates. Very unprofessional in my opinion

I will never recommend or advise anyone to take their pet to this establishment....My first and last visit was when my family brought our sick boy in on Sept 12th very early in the morning....the doctor on duty said she had to start treatments right away and we would have to leave him there with them so they could see if he would respond to the treatments, we left him there at 4am at 8:30 am apparently a shift change took place, and the day staff called to inform that he was not responding to treatments and there was nothing more they could do....we asked so what does that mean? They said unfortunately you would have to put him down as there is nothing else that can be done or take him to PEI....we were very upset and decided to go back to the vet and see him before making a final decision....when we got there they brought him out to us and put us in a room left us there never came to check on him or us again, he was shaking really bad when we got there and heart was beating really fast, after holding and comforting him for a bit he calmed down a great deal so we called our normal vet as they were open now and decided we would take him there as there was nothing else being done at 4Paws and have them look at him....we left him with our normal vet and a few hours later they called said he is doing great, and there is a very big improvement in his condition and he will be just fine, they kept him there till the end of the day, we then picked him up with medication they gave us to come home with and pleased to report that still to this day Sept 22 he is still alive and still a part of our family we cherish everyday. If we didn't act on our instincts and love for him he would no longer be with us. 4Paws stated he would need to be put down....well they were clearly wrong...so my advice make sure before making a big decision like that go with your instinct. I have since called and asked to speak with the owner who i was told was working but busy and they would have her call me back, but never heard back... i am also calling my credit card company today to dispute the charges...4Paws is obviously only in it for the money in my eyes!!

I was so impressed and greatful for the staff at 4 paws. I took my dog in and they wasted no time at all to get her seen. ( even though to the general eye she really didn't look as sick as she was) but the staff was immediately there to help us. For over a year I took my cat to this clinic as he was projectile vomiting. After spending thousands of dollars collectively, I was repeatedly told there was no medical problem it was behavioral. I recently took him to a different clinic where they immediately found medical problems with him that were evident as a long term degrading condition, put him on medication, and he hasn't thrown up in over a week. When I tried talking to the manager of 4 paws I was simply told our vets didn't miss anything, the tests didn't show a problem, good luck at your new vet. I definitely do NOT recommend using this clinic!

The staff here are fantastic. About a month or so ago, my lutino budgie was egg bound, but all avian vets in the area had a long wait time to be seen. I was lucky enough to get her in to 4 Paws. While they may not be an avian vet, one of the veterinarians who owns chicken offered to take her in and see what she can do. When I said that cost could be an issue, she only charged me for the anesthetic. I'm extremely grateful for the friendly staff, and how eager they were to care for my bird. Very glad to say that she's back to her happy and energetic self! I would highly recommend 4 Paws if you're looking for staff who will make sure that you and your pets are cared for.

I adore the fact that it is 24/7, however that doesn't mean they're available for walk-ins whenever, which is good to know! They are always available for phone calls at any time to my understanding, which I found wonderful, until I actually called.. I'm not sure who exactly I spoke to on the phone but they seemed very unaware of everything and couldn't provide me with answers. I understand I called quite late and maybe they were training somebody new, that's fine, but the cluelessness doesn't end there unfortinately. There were miscommunications, shortness in explanations, and cluelessness once again, in person. While I was waiting even, I heard a woman speaking to the front desk about a remaining bill she had to pay. The customer didn't understand what the bill was for, and I wish I was joking, but the worker didn't know either. She just kept telling her she had to pay it and didn't know why and couldn't find out why. The customer was getting upset and the worker did nothing to resolve it. The customer ended up just leaving, as I would have done, because nobody could explain to her why she needed to pay some mystery bill. Very embarrassing on the workers. The Vet I saw, however, was wonderful. She was kind, informative, and works well with patients it seems! I hate to post a harsh review but it's unappealing to have people who lack in customer service working with animals and owners in stressful times, which many vet trips are.

We unfortunately had to take our old cat to emergency as he was having a stroke, and within 15 minutes of calling them and getting clear and simple instructions regarding what to do, we were there and they took our boy back for his exam. We’ve used this vet on a few occasions now and had mostly good experiences. We really liked Dr Stephanie and there was another vet we had who was locuming there that day who was excellent, wish she worked there full time. I would like to provide a cautionary tale to those who use insurance after we were unexpectedly stuck with a large bill months after our dog’s visit. They were able to bill directly to our insurance plan (Trupanion) which was a plus. However when we went to square up our bill we were told by the vet assistant working the front desk that we did not owe anything, and that insurance had covered all of it. This didn’t sound right to us since our insurance usually doesn’t cover examination fees, and we asked her multiple times if she was certain this was accurate, she reassured us we owed nothing and that our insurance took care of it. A few months later, we were stuck with a bill for hundreds of dollars. We explained what happened, and there was no apology from management and we were blamed for their error. If there was any sort of accountability or apology on their end I wouldn’t have even been irritated or writing this review. In hindsight I should have asked for a detailed break down of our bill, and I’ve learned my lesson. So what I’m getting at is, if you receive an invoice from 4paws that doesn’t seem accurate, there’s a good chance it isn’t, so ask questions!

They didn't try to upsell me services I didn't need, answered all my questions, and didn't make me feel silly for being so worried (turns out he just had to fart real bad). I got a copy of the scans and my receipt emailed to me really quickly. They even followed up to make sure he was feeling better. My dog has high anxiety but was completely comfortable being taken by the staff while I waited in another room. (I assume that was due to covid restrictions) I 100% trust them with my beloved fur baby.

Honestly, I can't say enough good things about 4 Paws. We have lived in three different areas of HRM so we've been to probably six veterinary clinics. But no matter where I live, if I am, scared of an issue Gemma might be having whether it be ticks, bravecto dosage, lethargy etc, 4 Paws is the first vet I call for advise. We got our first puppy last summer and of course were choosy with what vet we wanted to try out. Indy is so comfortable at 4 Paws, and they have been very helpful in helping us navigate puppy parenthood! Indy received all his shots from 4 Paws and had his neutering surgery there. When he was neutered, we were given plenty of information on what the surgery entailed and the recovery process. We were called as soon as Indy was awake after surgery, and the vet was very sympathetic to Indys anxiety after anaesthesia and let us take him home ahead of schedule. 4Paws has also helped us over the phone for a few questions when Indy got into some chocolate and had some funny vomit. The hours and emergency services are a huge plus and peace of mind for us. We are very happy that Indy is a patient here!

This is part grief (I am loosing my girl as I am writing this, a way to distract myself from her struggle for air) and part trying to be objective. I may use their services again and I will probably make them my main vet. Mainly because the access to multiple professionals. Although is 24/7, it is not necessarily an emergency hospital. You need to get an appointment prior to the visit. My goods: everyone is really nice, they have multiple diagnostic equipment and with multiple doctors in rotation you are probably getting a couple of second opinions. My bads: communication. Although my girl was there approximately 48 hours in the hospital I talked personally to one doctor. This is crucial as there was a lot of information being exchanged, multiple test done and multiple doctors. An even when the final stroke was giving, it was by phone. I was hoping for a deeper explanation of what was happening in person and maybe see the results of the exams - and probably if I wasn’t in this state of grief I would have driven this point more clearly. But it felt like the broken telephone game. I think that personal interactions, specially when you indicating bad outcomes, need a little more attention. An estimate doesn’t explain what you are doing neither a 30 second conversation in the phone. Also doesn’t allow you to develop a relationship, that although is potentially short lived, a important part of the family is in their hands and trust is key.

My wife and I are new to the Halifax area and after a few short months here it was time to make a trip to the vet for one of our dogs Daisy. We are lucky that our dogs don't find themselves in the vet often but this visit happened to be a two-fer. Daisy had split her nail open down to the quick and was having some "lady issues." After yelping several vets in the area, 4 Paws had the best reviews and they were not a let down in any way. We were able to schedule an appointment within a reasonable amount of time after the holidays. When arriving for our appointment we had a small wait to go back into a room but our vet tech and veterinarian were very prompt to greet us and get right to business. Our Vet, Vicky Callen, was very friendly, incredibly knowledgeable, and was upfront about costs. She made sure to run through all of our options, what they might mean for us financially and the outcomes of our decisions. We could really tell that she cared for animals and owners alike. We had lab work done for Daisy, and Dr. Callen personally called us on the weekend and had a lengthy conversation about what they found and next steps (luckily it was pretty good news). She took her time to give us all the facts, options, and price tags for those options. Overall, it was one of the best experiences I've had taking my dog to the vet and we will definitely be coming back, as well as recommending them to anyone else I know that has a pet.

I wrote the below 5-star review in Nov 2016 after my first visit to 4 Paws. I've since made many trips and have generally been satisfied with the care my cat has received. I have, however, come to share some of the concerns of other 4 Paws reviewers. Appointments have never been on time. I have waited a minimum of 45 minutes for each appointment- and I have had many- that's a lot of time wasted just sitting around, and a lot of unnecessary additional stress on my cat. The administrative aspect of 4 Paws could also use improvement. I special order medicine. Twice my order was never put through, then an additional 3 or 4 times the order never arrived or it arrived and no one called me. I follow-up with them, and each time I am informed the medicine was yet to arrive and I am to wait for a phone call. This has resulted in missed medication for a long-term medicine, despite me giving enough time for the medicine to be ordered. On another occasion, the medicine could not be found, so I bought a liquid version. As soon as I arrived home, I had a call that the medicine had been found, only I could not get a refund on the liquid medicine as it had left the clinic, and I had to pay for the special order- which was my mistake, I should not have agreed to paying for both when the error was 4 Paws'. Mistakes happen, but when they repeatedly happen, there is an issue. How mistakes are dealt is also indicative of professionalism, empathy and care. It is concerning when no response is given to any of the concerns on this Google page, and especially not to a phone call about almost euthanizing a dog (see review below)! That being said, I am still happy with the care my cat received when we do finally see a Vet at our appointments. If my time and the stress of my cat, however, continues to be disrespected, and if there are not improvements in administration and medication continues to be missed, I will be considering another Vet, which is unfortunate. A lot of little things are very well cared for... it's the bigger things they seem to be currently lacking on. ________________________________________________________________________ Review Nov 2016 Was pleasantly surprised at how nice and supportive Dr. Slater, or Emma, and the 4 Paws clinic was! I arrived home late afternoon on a Sunday from being away for a day, to find that my kitty had a rough 24 hours and had a raw tail. We went to 4 Paws as it was the only place open. Not only is the clinic beautiful, Dr Emma was very knowledgeable, friendly, and supported me in a way I have never been supported at a vet clinic before! I was offered and given a coffee, and provided care options, including being asked whether or not I wanted to be / was comfortable being present for any procedures (shots etc). And the price was much lower than I expected for a clinic that has to pay 24 hour staff etc. Thank you for being there for Penny and I on a Sunday 4 Paws!!

The Vets are very kind and understanding however, our first appointment we had to leave after waiting 45 minuets past the appointment time, I found out after it was because a surgery ran late, the next appointment we waited 30 min with no explanation. I recommend telling your clients of any delays when they check in. It is very frustrating to have to leave and rebook. After the initial appointment we have had a few emergencies with our new dog and they were able to help us quickly which was appreciated. My main issue, and the reason for a lower rating, is the consult/exam price. It is 75$ to have my dogs temperature and heart beat checked and be spoken to for about 3-5 minuets, and we have been charged this every time we visit. That is the main reason they are only my "emergency vet" and I have another, vet a little further away that is equally as qualified but doesn't charge an arm and leg for 5 minuets of their time. Over view: Great staff but, high costs. If you are looking for a regular vet for check ups and vaccinations I don't recommend this office. If you have an emergency or immediate concern and can't get to your vet, or it is after hours I highly recommend them.

My 18 year old furbaby passed away on Jan 8 2017. I was inconsolable after she passed I brought Lexie to 4 PAWS and all the staff were so understanding and compassionate. Lexie was cremated but the box came back with her name spelled wrong. Again, I was so upset, Lexie had given me unconditional love for 18 years and I started crying. 4 Paws told me to take Lexie home and they would pay for a new box with the correct spelling. Which they did. Although I had never gone to 4 Paws before, this is what you should want in a vet. Although they are open 24 hours a day, walk in times are not 24 hours and the rest of the time is by appointment only. If you work and can't get time off, good luck! I called to make sure they weren't that busy on Sunday before going in to having my girlfriend's dog Norman seen. When I got there, I was told an emergency came up and I would have to wait an hour. That was no big deal (it was an emergency, I understand). They were talking about getting some blood work done after the hour but then shortly after told me there was complications with the surgery and Norman couldn't be seen. I was given pee pads and sent home. They told me to call the next day at 7:30 PM when On call starts to see if they were busy. I called the next day and was told On Call was not until 9:30 and 9 PM the next day. They couldn't get him in to see him anytime soon. They called my girlfriend, not me, who was in Florida at the time because her uncle was dying to try and book an appointment. They were very insensitive and supposedly setup an appointment for this Thursday. I called today (Tuesday) to confirm and they have nothing in the calendar. If they are that busy maybe you should hire more vets (not sure why all had to assist with that surgery) or expand your walk in hours!

a 4 am emergency visit which I had called prior to arriving. My dogs has had heart issues and other medical concerns for a while, so I decided it was his time for him to cross over the rainbow bridge as he was in heart failure in front of me, which was very apparent. Arrived and told them my decision. At this point my poor boy was suffering and not comfortable. After filling out all the paper work and paying and waiting 45 MINUTES ( which felt like a lifetime) I had to go get the vet as my dogs heart stopped in front of me. He was not comfortable at all and it mad an already awful decision so much worse. We were the only people there and it took 45 min and me running around knocking on doors telling them my dog is dying in front of me for them to then come in the room with the needle It just made me feel like they didn’t really care that my baby was in pain and all of this should have been ready for when the paper work and payment was complete I’ll NEVER go back

I was very disappointed... took my dog there my vet was closed, my dog had a UTI, she was giving anti biotics, I ran out of them a week early, the package said 2 tablets every 12 hours, it was supposed to say 1 tablet every 12 hours, so no wonder she was vomiting and had diarrhea. I called them and they gave me more because she needed to be on them the full two weeks, I also had to take a pee sample back once done them, they said it would be another $56 when I arrived with that sample they said it was $89 i told her I was told $56 but basically that was the price pay it or don't leave the sample. then it took a full week for them to call me with the results, when it only took 48 hours the first time ( but I was taking my dog in the first time and paying for a call) this time it was just a phonecall as I had already paid when I dropped the sample off. I brought my cat here because he could barely stand up and they brushed us off, told us he was fine because he was being aggressive while they were trying to examine him. told me to go home and monitor him, and he died in my arms not even 10 mins after we left. We rushed back there, and they told me they would cover the cost of the cremation and give my money back from the exam. I just went to pick up my cats remains and they tried to gaslight me, told me they never said they would pay for it. And they would not refund me. Do not take your animals here. Very Disappointed in the service with this clinic. I brought my boxer to this clinic approximately a month ago and she was diagnosed with an ulcer in her eye. She has been followed up with weekly by the same dr. 3 days ago I called and asked for a refill of her pain medication as it was clear her eye is continuing to bother her. It took them two days to respond and They refused to prescribe the pain medication that she has been consistently prescribed until they can see her again. She was last seen at this clinic less than a week ago and has an upcoming appointment in two days. In my opinion the service is very poor and after consulting with two other vet clinics, they agreed. I have cancelled all further follow ups with this clinic.

My kitten got fleas, I called and asked him for advice they told me to bring him in and they would give him medication that will cost about $60 After bringing him in the vat failed to even pick up my cat because he was squirming too badly she dismissed him prescribe medication and charged me $90 for the under 5 minute visit. After reviewing my bill at the end They had charged me for 2 types of medication that I had not received or asked for. After a huge fuss they returned my money for the 2 medications that they rabdomly put on but wouldn't not return the 90$ for the examination which she said she saw no fleas. I am still pulling fleas off my cat. They were unprofessional, sketchy, unfair and thieving.

Anytime we need to take him in we always feel welcomed and never pressured, I find Brittni does a great job of explaining all your options to educate you on the situation and lets you make the decision on how to proceed. At this point, I expect vets to be expensive, so I'm not upset at them for the price. My cat had a UTI, they fit me in within 30 minutes of calling, and soon we were sent home with medication. Next day it transitioned into a urinary blockage, and when I called they said I could come immediately. My boy got the care he needed, and actually the price was less than their original quote. He's home and doing great now. They were patient with me calling several times to check on him and even calling since he's been home to make sure his behaviors are normal. They're not my usual vet, but I have used them twice now for emergencies. I would recommend them to my friends and family.

What an amazing service. I was able to pick up my cat's prescription at 10:30pm on a Friday after work so we could start treatment right away. Well, I normally have an excellent experience here, but last week it was less than ideal. My cat had become paralyzed in his hind area, was panting and screaming. Textbook symptoms of a clot. I called immediately and they said they wouldn't take him. I have had almost every appointment I've ever had with my animals bumped because of another animals emergency and I know that they saw my other cat in an emergency as well so I was very confused when I explained what was happening and they said to go somewhere else. I ended up having to put my cat to sleep an hour later, thankfully we got in at Metro. I was quite disappointed that my cat was literally dying and we were turned away despite them always accommodating emergencies from all of their clients.

Have been taking my pets there since this place opened. In the first year they had a few administrative wrinkles to iron out, but it all runs very smoothly now. I particularly recommend Dr. Slater and Dr. Vicky (sorry, I don't know her last name), as they bring extensive experience to challenging diagnosis or treatment situations. Once or twice I have been disappointed in the technicians, therefore the 4 stars, but 95% of the time everyone there is incredibly kind to my pet, making sure she is comfortable and not stressed. The 24-hour service is so great, and if you have to leave your pet overnight, you know that there are people watching over her. I have used the housecall service as well. Great vet!

I have heard VERY bad things about this place! My friend's kitten needed emergency surgery and they were going to charge her x3 the price for it. She asked her home vet what the actual price of the surgery was and he said $1500 MAX. Yet 4 Paws was going to charge her $4000!!! The employees were being super rude to my friend as well! This is the worst vet clinic I have ever stepped into. Brought my dog there in serious distress, only for them to tell me it will most likely be 2 hours before he would see a vet. Meanwhile, there were 3 other calm, and quiet animals in the waiting room with me. Brought him to another clinic, and he was seen in less than 5 minutes. If your animal truly has an emergency, please do not take it to this vet. Take it to the Metro Animal Emergency Clinic. This vet office is completely ill-equipped for emergencies, and does not understand the concept of prioritizing patients.

We are so beyond grateful to 4 Paws Emerge and we fully believe they saved our kitty boy Jammer's life this past weekend. He started throwing up constantly last Thursday, couldn't keep anything down, and he's not a cat that ever throws up, so I knew something was off and that it was more than just an upset tummy. I knew that it was very possibly a blockage. On Friday I called every vet in Dartmouth (including our regular vet), some in Bedford, some in Sackville, and some in Halifax, and the soonest we could get him in to our vet in Dartmouth was 5:30 Sunday night. I didn't want to wait that long, and I found out that 4 Paws Emerge will book same day appointments. I called Saturday morning at 7am and they said bring him in for 9am. They did xrays and sure enough he had a blockage, so they kept him for the day and overnight and gave him barium to do more xrays. Thankfully the barium helped to dislodge the blockage and we were able to bring him home Sunday morning. We thank Dr. Jessica Volzke, Dr. Jamey Erjavec, and all the staff, for taking such great care of our boy.

The amazing staff at Four Paws were able to diagnose my sick elderly cat just by examining her, after I spent almost $900 at the vet across the street on tests that didn't even lead to a diagnosis (so she didn't receive the appropriate treatment, which led to her getting much worse). Thankfully, at that point I brought her to Four Paws who quite literally saved her life over the course of the past few weeks through hospitalization, IV fluids and a feeding tube. I didn't think she was going to make it, and the only reason she did is because of the exceptional care of the staff in aiding her recovery. I'm so happy to have found a vet that cares about my cat as much as I do. Don't waste your time or money going anywhere else!

Been coming to this office for 3 years with my 2 cats.. When I first started service was excellent - they were accommodating with appointment times, everything was explained to me, and all questions completely answered. More recently I’ve found that service is rushed, reception is very unhelpful and extremely long waits for appointments (so long that I now need a 4th booster for my kitten - $$$). During Covid I had a bad experience with a dr. Brittany? I understood from reception that my cat would be taken in, assessed, and then I would be called to discuss vaccines / any other treatment (ie deworming) before it was completed. She called and simply said my kitten was vaccinated and she needed to be dewormed, with no explanation, refused to answer any questions, and then hung up. Extremely disappointed and now unfortunately looking for a new vet.

This is the most horrible vet I have ever seen! We took our dog here for her few serious problems and they said the closest appointment they can give is at least few days later! It's weekend and this is the only vet at halifax peninsula that is open 24/7 and they only have 1 vet there ! When we were there the veterinarian was available and she didn't take care of her they didn't even checked her ! Normally 24/7 places are for mostly emergency situations right and you can only take care of them by giving an appointment to few days later?!? If you care about your pets health don't go there !!!!

The vet Erin was an absolute dream, although I was evidently upset, and my dog was in obvious pain, she easily calmed us both and reassured us the whole time. If I could rate zero stars I would. We are absolutely disgusted with our experience with 4 Paws. They are extremely inconsiderate and provide lots of false promises. Had a really messed up experience where they would not let us in to have my terrified Cavalier King Charles Spaniel (with severe separation anxiety) be put down. These medical professionals with the best PPE would not allow our dog to pass away in comfort. Their suggestion was curb-side delivery. We had contacted them before to ensure my brother who was flying in from BC would be allowed into the vet. He spoke with an employee on the phone who ensured him that they would “clear the clinic for you and your sister” (their words - not mine) to accommodate us under these extreme circumstances. When we arrived they CHANGED THEIR MIND and refused us. They even went so far as to contact the other Halifax and Dartmouth animal hospitals to inform them not to let us in. They suggested we broke quarantine and called the police on us. My brother was allowed into Nova Scotia during the lockdown on the premise of the emergency situation of picking me up from school and dealing with this veterinary emergency. He was allowed by the officials and police to do so. We had to drive 17 hours straight to Toronto through the night, holding my struggling dog's mouth open for her to be able to breathe, in order to get to our trusted vet to have her put to sleep in the comfort of our arms. Their carelessness would have saved us thousands of dollars. I will be forever scarred from this experience.

Previously I thought this was the perfect vet for me. But over the years the service has gone down. The vets are all so different from each other and the level of care is slipping. Money is the at the forefront and it's not cheap. I've had quotes for the same procedure range from $1000 to $2200 depending on the vet making the quote. I've even had a quote increase by $800 when I was physically there to prep for the procedure and had to stop everything because of it. I only return here if I really need to. Avoid if possible.

My experience with 4 Paws was completely devastating, and went so much worse than I ever could have imagined. The ordeal ended with my wonderful cat dying tragically and unexpectedly under their care. I am obviously writing this review from a place of profound hurt, but I am trying to offer practical feedback and advice for other owners, so that you can make an informed decision. In my opinion, if your pet is sick and requires assessment and diagnosis, I would avoid this hospital. From my experience, I believe that they are too busy, hectic, and disorganized, to address anything beyond the most straightforward issues. I believe that this hospital does not have enough focus on actually identifying an animal's underlying issue. I found their assessments to be unfocused and incomplete. We never reached a viable diagnosis, and I believe there were significant gaps in their approach. The doctors proceeded with treatment without truly identifying the problem. If you refer to other reviews, this seems to be a recurring theme. Communication with staff at this hospital can also be very frustrating. It can be difficult to get in touch with the doctors, and I found that I received vastly different information from one person to the next. Some of the information included direct factual contradictions, which is a huge problem. I also believe that the staff does not communicate effectively internally, which again, is a problem when your pet's health lies in their hands. In my opinion, because this location is open 24 hours, it seems to operate more like the equivalent of an emergency room rather than a doctor's office. I suspect that they are more likely to recommend surgery than might be the case with other hospitals. This is certainly something to consider, depending on what is going on with your pet. In an emergency situation, certainly consider bringing your pet here. For a more balanced and therapeutic approach, however, I would suggest going elsewhere, where your pet can receive more consistent oversight and care. Since my pet's passing, I have heard from multiple other people in the area who have said that this location used to be great, but has gone drastically downhill in the past few years. Personally, I have noticed that there appears to rather high turnover, with staff leaving and being replaced quite frequently. And I will also note that at this time, most of the doctors at 4 Paws seem to be quite young, only a few years out of veterinary school. Make of this what you will. The above comments are the high-level issues I see with this hospital. There are many other specific things I could comment on from my experience, that I think owners would find to be completely inappropriate, unacceptable, and frankly shocking. On a personal note, I say this without exaggeration: having taken my pet here for treatment is honestly the biggest regret of my life. I wish that we would never have stepped foot in this facility. It completely breaks my heart, because I truly believe that my cat would still be here today if we had gone elsewhere. I will offer to other pet owners this advice, no matter where you take your pet for veterinary care: if you have any concerns or doubts, always consider going for a second opinion. Doing so could save your pet's life.

Just thinking of having to go to a vet is stressful for us so imagine how bad it is for our furballs, 4Paws was incredible, their staff was so friendly and patient, I know this cause I have a million questions and they tried to answer all of them. He went in for one thing and it turned in to something completely unexpected and then surgery. They would call us with updates to keep us in the loop and answered my follow up questions timely. Our little furball is home now and I highly recommend this place if you need a vet

Worse Vet hospital ever!! Do not go! Complete incompetent staff and procedures. Have been trying for a week to speak to a Vet regarding my dogs injuries that were not addressed and not mentioned to me, but were found to be extensive injuries at an other vet hospital. Only when I emailed them threatening to file a complaint and a law suit did they send records and finally a vet contacted me. When I expressed my displeasure about the lack of response to my previous FOUR phone calls to the clinic she giggles! Really?? Unprofessional, negligent and no one at the clinic even offered an apology for their screw up. If I could give a negative rating I would. I would not take a dead animal to them, let alone one that needs medical care. This clinic is owned by a co-operation, not by a Veterinarian. Their goal is their bottom line and it shows!

I brought my cat in today as he was in a cat fight and had a gaping wound behind his ear. they did not look at my cat or ask me to take him out of the carrier. Told me they couldnt help me for another 2 hours. I had to take him to another vet.. So much for emergency care.

I had originally had a 4 star rating until I had another emergency called them when I was on the way ,they said sorry we can't take you till at least 3 because they were having an event!? Emergency vets shouldn't be closed for events , I would have went straight to metro emergency and not even wasted my time. Just ridicules ! I will only ever go to metro emergency now!

Have a 15 yr old lab-- pretty well on his last legs. Bad heart-back end weaker by the day - etc. Talkes to Rhonda-- who allowed me to ask questions & was outstanding in patience, understanding, and GENTLE advice. This veterinary does not put animals first. Had a really messed up experience where they would not let me in to have my terrified cavalier king charles spaniel who has severe seperation anxiety put down. Their suggestion was curbside delivery. These medical professionals with the best PPE would not allow our dog to pass away in comfort. I contacted them beforehand that I was flying from BC and they said they would clear the clinic in order to accomodate us. When I arrived they CHANGED THEIR MIND and refused us. They went so far as to contact the other hospitals to inform them not to let us in. They suggested we broke quarantine and called the police on us. I was allowed into nova scotia during the lockdown on the premise of the emergency situation of picking up my student sister and dealing with this veterinary emergency. I was allowed by the officials and police to do so. We had to drive 17 hours straight to ontario through the night in order to get to our vet to have her put to sleep in the comfort of our arms. Im truely disgusted by the whole experience.
