This Veterinarian is included in the category of Animal hospital.
My daughter works as a Vet Assistant there and enjoys every minute of it. The staff are all very friendly, knowledgeable, kind, and compassionate; not only to the animals they work with but also to the owners and amongst themselves. I highly recommend North Burnaby Pet Hospital for your furry four-legged pets! :)
Beware the costs. Demand an itemized list of procedures and costs. I had to ask for this as they would have let me walk out without an item by item receipt. Then saw there is a 70$ exam fee, when I was taking a cat in JUST for vaccination. I was not informed that there would be this exam nor was I forewarned. Nor was I asked if I wanted this service. When asked why, I was told, its a standard fee for new customers. Be ready to pay this, or not be told it will be added, and then stuck with it. As a result a regular round of shots and one dose of worm meds was 161.00$. I find this unprofessional and fees, exams, costs, should be discussed up front. Procedures and any policy should be discussed before charging. Tacking this on and then held hostage to pay is unethical and sneaky.
These folks treat every patient that comes through as though they were family. Empathy and proficiency are their greatest assets, from the sunny receptionist to the professional techs and practitioners. I cannot possibly recommend the lovely staff at North Burnaby Pet Hospital enough.
Great
I have been taking my dog Finnegan to North Burnaby Vet Hospital for 10 years - since he was a puppy. Dr Collette is a great vet. She clearly loves and cares for the welfare of animals. She is thorough, kind and has a great sense of humour. The staff are knowledgable and friendly. And the best part Finnegan thinks are the treats at the counter. Great Vet! Trust Dr Collette with my dog's health and welfare!
This vet clinic is a gem. They are the opposite of pretentious; if you are looking for a fancy, overpriced clinic, this is not your place. Vivian is a great veterinarian that takes all the time she needs to understand what's going on with your pet, and also, the follow-up they do is phenomenal; they answer emails and give you all the information you need.
They killed my cat. I took my very sick cat here and he was doagnosed with end stages of kidney failure, I was told that he would have to be put down. Her exact words: "You can bring him in here for fluids, but that will only buy you a few days." She told me it was best to put him down and there was nothing that could be done for him. THANK DOG I DIDN'T LISTEN TO HER!!!! 2 days later I was at our real vet (Newton Animal Hospital) that told me to try fluids. He told me that cats can live for years with kidney failure and that I was given incorrect information from the idiot vet at North Burnaby. I went home that night and gave him his first dose of fluids - that was May 2011 and here we are a year later with a VERY active and VERY much alive cat. He gets 200mg of fluids every night (takes about 5 minutes) and he is running around chasing my dog and playing again. ***DO NOT go here. I was told that they could give him fluids with a cost of $50 and that would only "buy me a few days" - horrible. If you have a cat, go down the street to the cats only clinic at Holdom and Hastings, if you have a dog - go ANYWHERE else. If you can, drive to Newton Animal Hospital; honestly the best vet I have ever been to! They aren't in it for the money, it's for the good of the animals.
I really lucked out finding this vet. From the front staff to the veterinarian, they are warm and friendly. The thing I love most is that they EXPLAIN everything. They talk you through any shot, disorder, what could or could not happen. I have never found a vet so engaged in my dog's well-being. I'm excited every time I come here because I know my beloved dog is so well cared for.I would recommend this place to any and all animal owners!
Doctor Collett Is the best.
Dr. Erwin is a very knowledgeable vet, she doesn't try to give your pet treatment they don't need or sell you unnecessary medications / vaccinations. Very down to earth, honest, and gave us several options / referrals when our dog needed knee surgery.
Very good business phone call establishing price information and veterinary discretion. I happen to be seeking a service this vet does not provide. I asked for reference to another vet who does provide the service I seek and was told, we do not know, but we know some do and some do not, so call around. I think best business practice includes having information about business competitors to be able to competently provide informed redirection for almost-customers; think of this as affiliation disambiguated from competition.
There hasn't been a single pet hospital that has been as caring and friendly as north burnaby pet hospital.
While Dr Collett is the best one there, their receptionist service is shockingly rude. Would suggest you look for another vet if you want to avoid the aggravation of the receptionist (one in particular who has been around for years) who has a habit of lecturing and reprimanding patients. Our pet has been sick and we've paid thousands in bills, only to get shoddy service. Being treated with respect as a customer is important, no matter what position you work in. It all adds up to an impression, which sadly this business does not understand. They just reduced their hours so they are not open Mondays, which should speak for itself to how people are choosing to get vet services elsewhere.

As a nervous first time dog owner I can say that without a doubt Dr. Collette and her team are nothing short of extraordinary. My french bulldog puppy has been through the ringer with a multitude of different issues. The staff here treats you as family and gives honest feedback and advice. They always make time for us, they always provide the best care. From the receptionist to the technician to Dr. Collette herself I love them all!!! Highly recommend them to any pet owner that loves their dog. You will get the best treatment at NB Pet Hospital.
Robert R : I do not want to discredit your review, however I do want make sure you have the right information. I have been taking my cat to North Burnaby Pet Hospital for over 15 years, and have never had a poor experience. I am worried you may have confused North Burnaby Pet Hospital with somewhere else? - which would be such a shame for a wonderful establishment like that to receive such a terrible review. The quote you stated "put the dog down if she would rather" is just not something either of the vets there would EVER say. Also...Blue Cross animal hospital is not located in New West, so I am wondering if your wires may have been crossed?
Wonderful, Family run, and professional (but not stuffy). Cannot express enough how nice it is going to a vet who really cares about what they do and the people/pets they interact with. <3 Thanks NBPH for taking good care of Tom and Burt.
I've been with North Burnaby Pet Hospital for the past ~1.5 yrs to help me care for my senior cat, Pooka. I was really looking for a reliable vet that I felt did a thorough job, was honest with me and supportive. I definitely found that in NBVH. These folks are truly staffed by some of the best people - Serenity is always sweet, personable, kind, and genuine. I've seen every one of their doctors, and they are all very knowledgeable and express the same genuine and compassionate care as the other does. I recently had to take Pooka in to cross the rainbow bridge, and had nothing short of a compassionate experience during that transition. They did their best to accommodate me as much as possible, and I never left feeling as though something hadn't been addressed. Thank you folks for everything.
I've only bought puppy food from here however, the lady at the front was very kind she helped answer tons of questions I had on my day old puppies and was very reassuring.
I just recently had to put down my 18 year old cat here and the staff was so supportive and kind. Let me have my last moments, gave me a shaving of his fur without even asking cause they hit knew I wanted the keepsakes. Just super supportive and kind and the measures they use for covid are exceptional and even safely let me be with my cat while he left us . I highly recommend this place
This little vet hospital helped me so much they took care of my kitty so thouroly I was satisfied she had a clear bill of health and they were very accomadating even when I was 1hour early for my appt! I recommend using them for all your pet needs assurance in your pet's health guaranteed as long as you do your part !❤
I hope the staff here treat the animals with more compassion then they treat the public! I got caught in the rain with my 2 toddlers and my 7 yr old. We were waiting for the bus using the shelter of the animal hospital. We had been there for 5 minutes and were asked to leave. There had not been a single client of theres coming in or out. I am sure we weren't driving business away and yet we were force to wait in the rain.
Friend and helpful.
Our furry child was quite happy to see Dr. Collet for a couple of years but due to her absence (which sounds like it will be a while) this clinic is going downhill FAST! The ever changing locums and receptionists since Dr. Collet's absence don't seem to be very knowledgeable or cooperative. Last straw was the clinic was closed on one day without a courtesy message on the voicemail. If you love your furry child as much as we do make sure you find another vet.
Very compassionate and engaged in the care of our dog. Excellent information about options that were within our budget.
Friendly and knowledge staff. Love taking my pets there!
Last week while visiting from the States we realized our 16+year old sweet cat started failing & needed to be put down. The staff here couldn't have been more understanding and compassionate. They got us in promptly, contacted our vet for records and were exceptionally kind & professional. I hope the locals realize what a treasure they have here.
Great service reasonable advice/ prices
The North Burnaby pet clinic is so wonderful! Their staff are so kind and helpful. My little terrier/chihuahua had an ear infection and he was so scared but the clinic did everything possible to make him feel loved and comfy. Could not have asked for better care. Also they are more affordable than other vets I've been to which is such a bonus!
10/10 recommend taking your pets to North Burnaby Hospital! I’ve been taking my cats here since they were kittens and they’ve always been well taken care of. The staff are well educated, professional and always so kind! I am always provided with a detailed breakdown of the appointment (including costs, treatments, care instructions, etc.) The vet techs are excellent in informing me with costs and never complete the treatments without my permission. After the appointment, I always receive an itemized list for my records. Thank you for always exceeding our expectations! See you next time.
I’m sad it’s too far now for me after moving! Great place to take my two cats, 5 years of satisfaction. Highly recommend!
The staff here are extremely kind and even more so to the animals. I have never seen so much passion of caring for animals ever in my life. When they look my cat it made me so relieved that they treated her like one of their own. The best pet hospital hands down can not recommend this place enough!

Started going to North Burnaby Pet Hospital a few months ago with my kitten who needed all her shots/examination and now a spay/microchip. Very happy with the service, communication and the way they treat my animal. The doctors and staff seem very knowledgeable, caring and trustworthy. Could not be happier.
Been bringing my dog here since she was a puppy, so for over a decade. Always top notch service from the vets and all the workers. They’re friendly, thorough, and care about what they’re doing. Appointments never run long and there is rarely a delay, they only charge for what was done and won’t do any extra treatments or exams without confirming first which many other vets don’t do. Serenity and Dr. Collett are always super friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable :)
Great service from the team. They're super great with our boys. Prices are reasonable. We've never left feeling ripped off. The doctors are very knowledgeable, kind and empathetic. 10/10 would recommend.
So impressed with the level of care the team offers. You can tell how much everyone here loves animals!
worst vet ever my daughter and I attended with her boston and upon hearing the estimated cost (5000$) she took a gasp of air and the demeanor of the vet became abusive and offered to "put the dog down if she would rather" We took the dog to blue cross in new west cost there 400$ plus some rx cost under 30$ dog rested 2 days and has checked out healthy since. This place is all about the$$$$$$$$ i
Excellent.
Dr. Collette was so great with my boxer. Very caring & thorough
Great experience
We have been clients of North Burnaby Pet Hospital for many years. Dr. Collette has always been very friendly and listens to your concerns about your family pet giving you options when possible. I would not hesitate to recommend North Burnaby Pet Hospital to all my family and friends.
Dr.Collette is fabulous, very knowledgeable on the latest for our four legged babies and very friendly staff
really angry that after 15 years with two dogs spending thousands of dollars- i am treated like a stranger, talked down to and patronized when i needed an emergency refill for my 15 year old dog who suffers extreme pain. I was told i needed to wait 48 hours for all prescriptions. I said my dog is in pain, and we have run out of medication. Same monotone answer: we need 48 hours notice to refill prescription. I just need you to call the pharmacy please. my dog is in pain. same cold monotone answer. We need 48 hours to refill a prescription. Can you not just ask the doctor. same monotone answer. We need 48 hours to refill a prescription. wow. never again. no care no compassion. What happened? it used to be a good place. Caring and compassionate. But this level of cruelty is beyond anything.i have experienced. I phoned my pharmacy crying, asking them to help. They were very kind and understanding and gave an emergency refill. They were caring, compassionate and understanding of my very old dogs pain. NOT north burnaby pet hospital.- its basically too bad your dog is in pain. you need to wait two days. NEVER AGAIN
I chose another vet and asked that my dog’s file be transferred over a year ago, long before COVID19. I never said a word. Instead of transferring the file, they sent the new vet a computer generated page that said nothing. When I called I was told that my dog’s records had been marked “DECEASED” and that the file had been closed. I was horrified. As I sat there with the new vet staff on the speaker phone I saw that I was not alone.
Amazing Vet! Bill was only $89.00 Absolutely excellent Vet Loved the atmosphere!.They are definitely not out for money.!!!! Will go back!!
Sadly after 22+ years dealing with this clinic (and 3 pups all well cared for) I am calling it quits. Dr. Collette is a marvelous vet and individual; however, the staff have deteriorated over the years. Last straw for me was this past Saturday when my pup and I walked to clinic for annual check up. Part way there I realized I needed a W.C. and presumed I would be able use the clinic's even though there is a sign on the door "No "public" WC". Certainly not and receptionist directed me to coffee shop in the Safeway across the road. As I was not about to leave my pup outside a grocery shop I opted to return home and in my haste to get there had my first asthma attack in years (due to the current smoke from fires, obviously not the clinic's fault). Poor client communication skills. After so many years dealing with them, I would have expected some acknowledgement / recognition, but no.
If I could only give "zero" stars!" On June 17th, 2017 I have unfortunately dealt with the absolutely unprofessional, rude and completely unacknowledged receptionist ever in my life. Yes it was at at North Burnaby Pet Hospital if any doubts. My dog had an appointment for nail cutting. In a very rude way she would not allow me to go in with my dog even though I did it last time when we came. I have shared our previous experience with bloody nails, but she could not care less. In a meantime I wanted to by some food for my dog. She asked me to spell "Satiety" for her, and still could not figure out the name of the food nor find it online. Absolutely no knowledge of the products they sell! Then I heard my dog cried several times, and after she came out of the fenced area, right away she run toward the exit door leaving a bloody trail behind her. On my huge surprise receptionist approached the next customer without finishing assisting me. She made me wait even though I asked her to look at the bloody floor. Zero compassion! I stopped the doctor who worked on my dog out in a first place, and she took her in again. Not a single sorry or else ... This time my dog DID NOT want to go in since she was terrified! After some time the nurse came out with my dog. She was nicer and more polite then others. At least she has acknowledge me and smiled. Both myself and my beautiful dog were visibly shaken, just wanting to exit the unpleasant place! The receptionist finally asked me again about the food (the doctor pointed out to the correct name). Being so upset at the whole ordeal I told her to forget about the food. She still had time to redeem her unprofessional behavior, and at least say a single apology. Of course she was only interested about the payment for the service. Honestly I regret now that I paid even a dime from $30.13. The first time, years ago, when they cut my dog's nails a bit more, at least they were very apologetic and sincere, and let my husband and I stay together with our dog the whole time. Things happen in life ... That is the reason I decided to give them another chance. Not any more for sure! By the way Dogtopia charges only $11 for the same service, but with utmost professionalism and care !! Most definitely North Burnaby Pet Hospital will not see none of us EVER! Thanks to the "lovely" lady at the reception.
