Dr Joseph and staff are so kind and caring for our two dogs. Our older dog was scared of the vet he used to go to (he's 13). Now he isn't afraid to go in and he greets the doctor with kisses! Over our few years with the Carlton Animal Hospital he's had surgery there, treatments and his needles and leaves Happy! Our new one year old puppy now goes too. Much love!

He allowed us to be part of the process and gave us a few treatment options. He helped get our ferret on much needed medication. He is reasonably priced and we are relieved to have him as our vet.

Brought my baby bird (a three-month green cheek conure) in for a general wellness checkup that was booked for 4:30pm the other. I showed up and was given the new patient form to fill in before I was left to wait for 25 minutes. I understood that the vet had to do emergency stitches on a dog (poor little pup), but wished they would have given me a call prior to be showing up to let me know to either reschedule or come later. Once I got in with the vet, he did the bare minimum. He checked her heart rate, touched her tongue, and inspected her pupils. He briefly looked at her droppings and that was it. He did not weigh her, do any baseline bloodwork, look under her wings, her vent or preen area, or do a microscopy/gram-stain of her droppings. He didn't ask about her behaviour, how much she eats, etc. I was quoted a price of $65 when I called and was told the price was $85 once I arrived. They trimmed her nails but failed to tell me this would be an extra charge of $20. Tried to convince me I had to purchase supplements from them to keep her healthy. I was very eager to leave and hadn't really registered how little he did before I left. Paid $118 (HST in) for next to nothing done. I feel cheated and like I need to book an appointment with a proper vet to see if she's actually healthy as no tests were performed. You can't just look at an animal and tell what's going on inside of them. I'm absolutely fuming about this experience. I absolutely do not recommend.

My last comment has been deleted as they clearly did not like my 3 star review. They lost my cats file. He argued with me that he had "never seen this cat in his life" but "gave her flea medication once". He became extremely defensive when I told him that she has never been to any other vet. He raise this voice and told me to get him the other vets number to retrieve her file. I explained again, that there is no other vet. In reality, during that visit, she had a skin scraping, a steroid needle, flea medication, and topical antibiotic cream prescribed. Upon the most recent visit at the end of January or beginning of February he gave her dewormer that I did not consent to (she was already dewormed), amongst multiple other medications that did absolutely nothing. The office claims to have "on site laboratories" for bloodwork but my cats was sent off to Toronto? The bloodwork showed pretty well nothing. We had to return and get a steroid shot to stop the diarrhea. Then this past Friday, after a horrific vet visit with my mom and her dog (which ended in the dogs death at the end of the day) I will never be returning to him. I do not reccomend dr Joseph or his team for anyone. He cannot handle birds, he is afraid of reptiles, and he clearly wants you to spend a significant amount of money at his clinic.

Been coming here for years. Always a good visit. Everything gets explained well, and you can tell they care. Recently, our cat became very ill, and they took us in on a busy Saturday to see him and give him the care he urgently needed. Thank you so much Dr. Joseph and team! I just wish there wasn't so much salt at the entrance in the winter! Make sure your pets have foot protection!

Of which this news was delivered with a lack of basic courtesy or professionalism. Do not bring any animal beyond cats and dogs here. They do not have the correct information to care for exotic animals. I was told this was the best place to bring my bearded dragon, they proceeded to tell me he was stubborn because he was not eating, then a couple months later I was told he had osteoporosis when his leg started to swell. This meant he needed more calcium and that was all he told me. Later on the condition was getting worse and it was not until I went to Reptile Kingdom to realize my lizard needed an entire new diet because the condition was only getting worse. The doctor was not concerned for him and told me the swell might go down if I add calcium. Instead it got worse . I'm sure he is a better vet for cats and dogs, however for exotic animals I would not recommend at all.

Very recently, I needed a vet for my ball python. After searching around, I discovered that Dr.Joseph was the only vet in the area (Maybe in the whole region) who sees reptiles. Not only was he very knowledgeable about my little guy, but I was relieved to find out that the care for him was very affordable. I am extremely grateful to have a knowledgeable reptile vet in Niagara, and not have to pay an arm and a leg to help my animal. **Edited to add, my snake's health has bounced back very quickly, and any questions I have had about his treatment have been answered in a professional and honest manner. I have had an overall great experience with getting care for my beloved snake thanks to Dr.Joseph and his receptionist.**

Very unimpressed with this vet clinic. The Doctor was over an hour and a half late! The overall atmosphere of this vert clinc is 'laid back' and unprofessional. When we first arrived for our appointment time, the receptionist told us that the Vet was running an hour late and that she was trying to contact me via e-mail (which was impossible, since she didn't have my e-mail on file) and they never even attempted to call me ahead of time about this change. We left and came back an hour later and the vet was STILL not there. I left 15 minutes later and only then did they attempt to phone my cell phone (about a half hour after I had left), presumably looking for where I was. Extremely disappointed and would recommend taking your animals else where. Traveling is extremely stressful for my pets and to be told to wait twice in one night at the expense of stressing out my sick animal, I'm very annoyed with this clinic. For the sake of your animals, please find a different clinic to take them to.

Disappointed. I took my dog there due to an allergic reaction. Vet offered costly scratch tests. I explained I had my regular vet fax papers over as my dog had this reaction before and I asked if he looked at the paperwork , he said no. I asked him to give her same medication my previous vet gave her. I asked 3 times for the price, each time he left the room and came back but forgot to check the price of medication which I found out at front counter when I paid. I was paying for am exam so since the vet barely touched my dog and seemed scared of her, i had to ask him to examine her. His exam included checking her temperature in her ear and checking her heartbeat. That's it. The price was reasonable IF he had actually diagnosed her or read her paperwork to know what to do instead of me telling him and actually done a proper exam.

This is a family run business. I spent over $500 just on a tick for my dog. My dog got a tick I took the tick out then took my dog to this vet and I did not get out of there until it was 500 and near $600. I asked him about my dog's teeth and he was telling me I should get him in right away because he might have to pull some teeth out. But he could maybe save a few teeth if I was to bring dog in sooner. I think they are money hungry. Lady in the parking lot had told me this place is getting ridiculous for her as well. They are ripping off the community people that love their pets like children. It's run by a bunch of a East Indian people. Of course. It's all about the money.

I am dispotanted in the care. I went to the clinic my pet canary cage feel over and my canary leg got hurt. I don't drive so went for help and asked for pain management for my bird doctor told me no pain management will work unless you fix the problem so asked how much will this cost for me to have it fix he told me 600.00-700.00 dollor. I am upset my bird hurt and need help and care but not even looking at the bird he told me 600.00 to 700.00 for a pet canary bird. I have 4 children out of work because of covid-19. I would have like it better if he just told me he couldn't fix or Help my bird that he not a bird Doctor so just writeing this review at the over priced costing that he given me for my un treated pet bird that is important to me and that he the closest veterinarian in my area dispotanted maybe I am upset anybody get upset when there baby pet sick but that was not right to over price so he didnt have to treat even if he not a bird doctor any help better then NO help

I have to disagree with the ferret owner's comment on Dr. Joe. Presently, I have 8 ferrets and each and every one has been thoroughly examined, treated and kept in good health, thanks to this very kind and experienced man. I have had a few that have had the unfortunate luck to become ill with adrenal disease. All of them are in great shape and have had their little lives extended due to the treatment they have received at Carleton Animal Hospital. Dr. Joe is knowledgeable and well informed of the latest treatments available to help combat this dreadful disease. He has also treated my cats and our Conure parrot. All are happy healthy and thriving. Both Dr. Joe and his lovely wife are kind and compassionate people, especially when it comes to the loss of a pet. As far as his rates go, he is much cheaper than a lot of vets in this city and has to earn a living as well. So for those that complain about costs, perhaps you should have taken that into consideration BEFORE you became a pet owner. Vet costs go with the territory of pet companionship. Also, for those that rated low with no explanation, you are trolls and friends of a disgruntled client. Very childish indeed. C. Stevenson

Took my dog in due to muscle tension and stomach bloat. With out an actual exam , routine check up for new patient he proceeded to feel her muscles and her belly Said here's pain pills and meds for her liver. He said it's typical for this breed for liver issues....he didn't even know her breed she's a mutt. We left will a $400 bill for 100 pain killers?!? What? Who gives out pain killers like candy. As well as liver supplements. We didn't feel right about the visit and as a few days went by our dog got worse her bloat was bad and she began having discharge... took her to an amazing clinic and ended up with emergency surgery for pyomatera... she would have died without the surgery... her liver however was 100% healthy and nothing wrong. This vet clearly doesn't care about animals and should have done a better job, she would have died due to not be treated for her actual illness which a routune new patient blood test would have shown infection. If you want amazing treatment for you pet I would suggest anywhere but here.

We brought our cat in with a urinary blockage. He was obviously in distress and a lot of pain. I specifically told Dr Joseph that I wanted my cat out of pain, so if there was no hope, please put him down. Dr Joseph told me for $800 my baby would be just fine. Fast forward one week and my baby passed away on the way to an emergency vet, who said clearly the cat should have been humanely euthanized..A friend who was a retired vet warned me about these vets who see your pets as nothing but business, shame on Dr Joseph.

Great guy. Small office but he helped out cat who had a kidney infection. Told us what foods to avoid and helped him get rid of the flea problem we were battling all summer. Told us which meds to stay away from and helped the cat get rid of the dry skin patch on his back he has always had. Since taking him there our 10 year old cat has the energy and vigor of a 4 or 5 year old. His kidney problems went away with the change of food. Like all vets it was a little expensive but no more than any other place we have gone before. He is a very nice man and i would definitely go back

TAKE YOUR PET SOMEWHERE SAFE, NOT HERE. My cat was in the ceiling of this clinic for over a week. The vet told me himself that other cats had gotten into the ceiling but "usually they come back down so it's okay." She went through an open vent which I had noticed was a hazard on a previous visit. When I finally got my cat back, her mouth and paws were bleeding and she had been left in the trap they used to catch her, even though she was yowling and struggling. The vet didn't even look at her, just handed me the trap.

Good little clinic! They were able to get my cat in on short notice even despite having emergency surgeries and someone needing to say goodbye to their pet the same morning. Exam fee was very fair, prices for further diagnostic tests were a bit steep. Luckily after a few shots my Bug is feeling much better! He says thank you to the staff here for helping his belly. ❤️

Absolutely HORRIBLE Dr. Joesph was super rough with my 16 year old cat. When we begged him not to hurt her he ignored us and continues to examine her. Something was wrong with their scale and it said she weighs THREE LBS when she actually weighs SEVEN and prescribed medication based on 3lbs of weight even though we expressed numerous times that she cant possibly weigh that little. The student there was inappropriate and was visibly grossed out while the doctor examined my cat. The doctor told us my cat has days left to live but prescribed months worth of pain killer... and also charged for eye drops and antibiotics that were never discussed. Dr. Joseph you have no sympathy for animals and no understanding of what it's like to own and love a pet, you are a terrible vet and I hope to god no one else has to experience what we did.

This veterinarian claims to be specialized in exotics which includes parrots. He doesn’t know how to hold a bird never mind, prescribe the correct medicine. Do not take your parrot here as it is a waste of your time and money. We ended up going to OVC in Guelph.
