I went to Waves tonight because my kitten had managed to get his cone off about 10 minutes after we left the vet clinic where I had him neutered. By this time, my vet had closed for the day. I had tried to put the cone back on Odin, but he wasn't cooperative; he even lost a deciduous tooth and his gum was bleeding. He was also grabbing and pulling the gauze that ties around the base of the cone away from me while we were "arguing" about whether he should wear this "fancy plastic cone" or not. It was cold outside and I was freezing by the time the vet tech came out to see me. (There were a few people ahead of me.) She invited me inside to wait on the couch while she put the cone back on Odin. I *really apprectiated* that. (Good thing I thought to bring a jacket with me too!) I had bussed over to Waves and, at this point, had waited for awhile. As for the great job on putting the cone back on .... Odin had the cone off and was pulling at the gauze knot on his shoulders with his teeth before we even got home. ????????♀️
Two weekends in a row we brought our dog, Blue, into WAVES for two similar but separate gastrointestinal issues. Blue was seen by a doctor very quickly on both of our visits. We were beside ourselves with worry for our 7 month old puppy but the staff at WAVES were extremely professional and their calm and caring demeanour really helped us from not going off the deep-end. Our first visit, Blue had X-Rays and spent the night at the hospital on an IV. A night without our dog was awful but we received regular phone updates from the veterinarian and always felt reassured he was in good hands. The front desk staff is great, they even remembered Blue on our second visit. Thanks WAVES for taking great care of our son!
Absolutely amazing doctor and staff. Had issue with our little fur buddy this evening and they were fast and super professional and comforting getting our pupper sorted. Gave me many options and explained everything thoroughly and extremely patient with my concerns. I highly recommend using this hospital for any of your pets needs. Thank Waves we appreciate you.
I brought my dog here due to an error my normal vet made and gave my epileptic dog the wrong dose of sezuire medication, only 15 mg in the 60 mg bottle. This mistake sent my dog into a spiral of cluster sezuires needed 24 hr care. Thanks to the waves team hes sitting next to me. Thank you thank you.
Our dog Charlie had his double knee surgery at Waves just over 4 weeks ago and he's doing really well. I can't say enough about the level of care and compassion we received from all of the staff. We were a bit apprehensive but the caliber of his care, level of professionalism and follow up has been amazing. We too were provided with different pricing options and I found the cost to be reasonable and less expensive than I had expected. I would not hesitate to recommend Waves to any pet owner. A special thanks to Dr. Bolliger and Jazzmyn.
This morning I franticly called Waves to notify staff that I would be arriving with my cat, who I beleived had a urinary blockage. From the moment that I walked into the clinic, the staff, receptionists, techs and Dr.Simmonds did an exceptional job at keeping my kitty and I at ease. Dr. Simmonds provided much needed insight and clarity on the condition of my little guy. Her calm demeanour and accumulative knowledge helped not only my kitty but provided me with the resources that I need to distinguish between critical/dire care vs his “medical flare ups.” Without the staff at Waves, Newman and I may not have found out the extent or severity of his condition. I would highly recommend Waves and their staff!
The most compassionate people who genuinely care about animals and it shows. Thank you for taking such good care of my baby girl in her last days.
More than happy to pay the additional emergency fee for the incredible service from Dr. Michelle and staff! Thank you for taking such great care of Blake!
I cannot say enough good things.. The service was impeccable. Three phone calls, each answered on the first ring, and then they talked to me, rather trying to rush me off the line. Everyone I dealt with was incredibly nice, they took great care of my pup, and the cost was not at all what I was afraid it might be. Thank you !
Well what I can say other then it’s about time we have a great facility to add to Vancouver island with the best of the best to care for our animals. Specifically Dr Erinne Branter! She is a gem to have in our back yard. Also our dog Birdie has had great care and attention always. Thank you Waves!
I brought my cat in during the Thanksgiving weekend as my usual vet clinic was closed. He was very sick, no easy clues as to why. After quickly assessing him for urinary blockage, he was no longer considered critical, which made for a very long (10 hours) wait. But once he was further assessed, the care and investigations were detailed and confirmed a number of serious problems. He had xrays and ultrasound, was rehydrated and put on a number of medications. He stayed 3 nights in hospital until manageable at home. Dr. Branter gave a detailed review of the issues and explained what each procedure was looking for or ruling out. Snoop has been home for a week and is doing really well and has finished his meds. Since no definite cause has been confirmed for his multiple medical issues, there will be a further blood test in a week to monitor his anemia. This clinic, being both an emergency clinic and a specialist clinic, has to deal with an unpredictable caseload during these crazy Covid times - not easy, and they are working hard to ensure the best care.
After being told it was an emergency to have my cat seen to and go to this hospital ASAP, I waited over 5 hrs before the vet looked at her. I had to wait in my car and was not allowed to leave or I would lose my place in line. They wanted to sedate my cat before examination or drawing blood, which would take another 2 hrs. At that point I asked for my cat to be discharged. Of course they wouldn't release my cat until I paid $173.25. For what?!! All I got was arguments and excuses from the assistant and l felt frightened for my cat and despondent about the lack of care. Worst experience at a vet to date.
Dr. Bollinger and the rest of the staff were very compassionate during the process of our dog having knee surgery. They were the to answer questions leading up and post surgery. The really care about the animals and their owners. Highly recommended if needed.
Thank you for the excellent care you gave Bolt in March. We are so appreciative and happy to report he is feeling much better!
Visiting Victoria for the long weekend and accidentally forgot to pack a prescription for my dog. Called at 1:40am, picked up prescription at 2:30am. Friendly service. Very thankful as its important for my dog to take her medication on time at 7am every day.
We arrived very early in the morning with a pup in pain. The techs and vet were quick, pleasant and helpful. We hope we don't have another emergency but if we do, we wouldn't hesitate to return to this place. Blue Green is doing great now!
I so appreciate the good care that WAVES has provided to my dog, Olive. I recently moved to the area, and have (unfortunately) had to seek urgent care for her twice in the last few months. WAVES has been kind, patient, and thorough, despite …
Very thorough and helpful , dr. Bentley was patient and answered all my questions. Was a long wait but they are an emergency hospital and that's the way triage works! Thankful to know that they are close by. Cost for an exam started at 160. For urgent care, we felt the cost for exam and x rays was reasonable. The staff were friendly and caring, especially Anna the student who came to talk to us and explained the process. Thank you to all the waves staff, we appreciate all you do!
We had to say goodbye to our beautiful cat Ms Lucy on Boxing Day 2021. The staff was very kind, helpful and compassionate.
Dr. Simmons was great. Took our cat in quickly and did a great assessment. Kept us posted all along the way. Left in a timely manner with a good care plan.
8.5 hrs in the parking lot because our dog ( which you had) wasn't high priority. Our system doesn't need people sitting in their cars for 8.5 hrs waiting . Our environment doesnt need vehicles idling all day. I get the level of priority, but truly lack of respect believing that our family has 8+ hrs to sit in your parking lot.Take a deposit, phone numbers, book pick up times with fines for being late. You need to build a better more effective system.
I can't thank Dr Luke Winter enough for his attentiveness, communication and care towards my little Renfrew. He was honest, gentle and professional in every sense of the word when it came to my dogs care. Being in an emergency situation is never ideal, however all the staff at waves was compassionate and I felt comfortable leaving my boy in their hands. I've worked in the animal field myself for over a decade so I am always anxious and hesitant to let others take over... I felt as though I was speaking to colleagues throughout the entire process. Renfrew has a long road infront of him but I'm confident that Dr.Winter has set us up to be on a successful path. The reception team is on-top of every call within the first ring, the technicians were all incredibly kind and radiated the passion for their career throughout every interaction. Thank you all so much.
Kind, compassionate, easy to talk to. We're so kind In a time of need. The staff we're incredibly supportive and kind in a very trying time. They are top of the line care. I highly recommend them.
Our dog Bo was here twice in just one week recently due to terrible GI issues. I'm so glad we came here for his treatments and I would totally recommend Waves to any pet owner. The staff were so helpful and never rude when I called so many times for an update on Bo. Even though they were so busy, the doctors took time to answer all questions and explain everything on the phone without rushing. Big thank you to Dr. Hering, Dr. Bentley and the AMAZING hardworking staff for taking the best care of Bo and helping him fully recover!
Gotta say...just went thru one of the most awful times in my life last week, one of my furry baby's reached the ripe old age of 15 and unfortunately had to be put to sleep. This situation started very early one morning, waiting with her till the vets opened. 3 Vets, 2 in sooke and 1 in Victoria would not or could not deal with her rite now. However we found Waves and they were the only Brite spot in this horrible time. They stepped up and made my baby as comfortable as she could be, me too. I CANT say enough good things about these people...kind considerate, ❤ caring...love these guys...Thank you Waves from the bottom of my ❤
Well organized system. We had a long wait but they are very busy and are doing a great job. Urgent cases are seen first. Very caring and professional . ????
Brought Daisy in at 1150. Phoned reception as the sign in their parking lot says. Told them what was going on with her. They said they would do the admin and phone me back in 15 minutes to let me know what was going on. After an hour without a phone call, I phone and ask what's going on. They say she is on the board. An hour and a half later I'm looking around and I'm the only one left in the parking lot, including a couple of cars that I notice came after me. At 3 hours I phoned and told them we were leaving because Daisy wasn't getting any attention in their parking lot. They said thanks for letting us know and have a good day. I didn't have a good day because Daisy passed away that night. The biggest problem I have with WAVES is that they say they prioritze patients by triage. I think there is a requirement to assess the patient in order to prioritize. At least that's the way it is with human triage. In my opinion this was the receptionist deciding Daisy would be ignored because she didn't like being called out for forgetting to phone me back. Might not be the case but it certainly feels that way. My wife and I are heart broken. I hope you have better luck with your pet than I did at WAVES.
The staff there is very nice and professional. One of my two cats got into some lily flowers. Don't know which one. So I had to bring them both in. They were very fats to meet me at my car, and bring both of my cats in. They immediately ran blood work, and out both cats on fluids. Luckily we were able bring them in fast enough, that no damage had occurred to their kidneys. They originally said that we would have to keep them there for 36 hours. But then the following day, a different vet told me they were staying for 48 hours. So there is some confusion or difference of opinion between the vets. So that caused a bit of confusion while trying to sort out when we would drive out there to pick them up. All and all, good staff. They saved both my cats from kidney damage and potentially death. Just be prepared to pay an extreme premium for emergency service. This 48 hour stay cost $1800 per cat. Totalling $3600. So bottom line, make sure you do not have any lily plants on your property! It will cost you either lots of money, or the life of your loved pets.
Our cat was attacked and was badly injured but waves braught us in instantly and had a technician check his vitals within minutes. They reassured us he was going to be okay despite the deep wounds. Even with the team working on a critical condition animal beside us they came and checked in with us and made sure our cat was going to be okay for the wait! Amazing staff, very kind and professional. Our cat made a full recovery after they cleaned his wounds and gave us the proper prescriptions. Seems the staff truly care, Highly recommended waves and although I hope we never have to return, this will be where we go from now on if an emergency arises! Thank you waves!!!
Waves is absolutely amazing, they took the best care I could have asked for my 13 week old puppy Franklyn. They were so professional and efficient they made sure to keep us updated to what was happening with Franklyn over his 6 day stay. I …
My 10 month old puppy Angus has a serious liver condition, a large intrahepatic shunt. Before Waves opened the only board certified surgeon available close to us was at UC Davis in California. Then we were referred to Waves and Dr Branter and her team. What a huge relief to have a board certified internal medicine Dr so close! From the moment we walked in we felt confident our pup was in great hands. The facility is clean and bright, the front end staff is welcoming, and Dr Branter and her team are my heroes. My only worry was that they might kidnap Angus because they loved him so much :) We were kept informed and supported at every step of the process and Dr Branter obviously loves her work and her patients. I will highly recommend Waves to anyone I meet. Thanks for helping our boy!
Excellent surgeon. Customer service is poor, I waited over a month for a quote and had none of my calls returned. After my dogs surgery any additional phone calls we’re not returned or answered by someone unable to help. While the surgery preformed on my dog was done well I was unable to follow up with this clinic whatsoever. My regular veterinarian had to do all post op check ups and X-rays. Somewhat disappointing service for over six grand.
Happy that we have a place in the Westshore now. Although the wait time was long, the service and care was awesome.
Took my little guy, Chewie to ER for the first time. I was panicking but all staff and doctor on the phone and in person took care of my and my Chewie so well that i couldn’t think of anything else but excellent! All staff at WAVES are very professional and thoughtful on everything! I am hugely relieved the fact I have WAVES near me for any emergencies. Thank you ???? so much for being there for us. You guys are angels ????
I've taken our 9 month old puppy there twice because she's gotten into things she shouldn't have. The staff and vets there were amazing both times. I greatly appreciate them answering all my questions, always seeking more information if they didn't know something or were unsure. The vet's were honest and always made sure not to get too science-y or use jargon. I can't say enough about how amazing they are and how well they took care of our puppy.
Thank you for your wonderful kindness when I had to put my Sheena (bearded dragon) down after 12 years of her being my little buddy. You made easier one of the hardest days of my life.
We can't say enough about how they cared for our dog and got him on the mend, would highly recommend anyone in need of compassionate staff that will help you with your fur babies go here!
There is no zero star, or negative star option, so one star you get. Lean on your weak legal policy excuse, but you turned away a dying kitten who needed a compassionate end. You subjected that poor animal to another hour and a half of suffering on a drive to Nanaimo. All because I found it struck in the middle of a road that was outside your jurisdiction. Why? I told you I would pay. Just help the animal. Why even get into medicine if you are going to turn suffering beings away? Shameful. UPDATE: I did speak with Dr Branter and I am quite satisfied that what did happen was not supposed to happen and that she, and the team, are committed to review the situation and ensure that animals in need of urgent care, get it.
Took my dog in for shoulder surgery at the waves vet in Langford, the surgery went well but I was not informed previous to the surgery they would need him over night. never got a call back after the surgery, I called 2 times and both times was told “the doctor would call me soon” when I called the last time he had gone for the night, the next day when I went to pick him up he smelled of dirty wet dog and had a terrible job done on his nails. Surgery went well but very unimpressed with the customer service and nail trim job.
Dr Bently went above and beyond to help my 10 month old kitten. The care and compassion for my situation. You can tell that they really care about the lives of animals. I am beyond greatful for what he and his staff have done to help my baby.
Was a bit of a downer never meeting the vet face to face though we discuss a life decision for our dog on the phone while we were in the parking lot I know it is the rules but it would have been nice to meet the doctor in person
It's so refreshing to go to a 24 hour vet and not feel pressured to run tests and charged insane amounts of money for nothing. I brought my dog in for an after hours emergency. a vet tech looked at my dog gave me her opinion and the choice to talk to a vet. I decided the tech's opinion was helpful and i was on my way. I was not charged a cent! I'll be back.
Waves took care of our little one with efficiency, care and professionalism. They truly cared for my baby including their followup. All records were processed quickly and accurately. I was very impressed with my experience with each person i dealt with on Dr Branters team. I would highly recommend this hospital for the services they provide.
Thank you so much for everything you did for my dog to make him comfortable hos last day ❤ and for putting his best interest first this truly made a difference!
24 hrs emergency care. Wonderful assistants and information from the techs. Never met the Drs but they did a great job for our little dog. Pricey, but it is an Emergency clinic.
Thankful for the peace of mind that the technicians gave us and the warm welcome. Did not pressure, our options were laid out and referred us to see our regular vet in the morning. If we have another emergency, we will definitely be going back.
We live in the Cowichan Valley and do not have a local emergency veterinarian. We have (unfortunately) had to take our hound to emergency a couple times over the past year. Our last visit with Dr.Bentley was another excellent experience. Our dog had been bitten by another dog and we were very concerned about it becoming infected. Dr.Bentley took the time to listen to our concerns and reassured us he would thoroughly check all wounds on our precious pup and keep his other health issues in mind when selecting medication. The front admin staff are always very thorough and professional and they ensure patients understand the discharge protocol. The clinic offers excellent customer service and reviews the treatment plan and costs after an initial assessment - their approach is so transparent. Dr.Bentley and staff, thank you for taking such great care of Jackson. It is such a relief to know there is excellent emergency care just down the road when unfortunate situations occur. ♥️????♥️????
Had a not necessarily emergent but a concerning visit with my 16 yr old cat today. Phone was answered quickly both times. They had us in quickly and triaged. The Dr. Called me with his findings and way forward. There was no cost to me. Thank you so much to all of the staff for their service, compassion and a pleasant experience. Cheers
Peanut butter would like to say thank you to the staff at waves for saving his life in these difficult times. He would also like to say that the staff here went above and beyond and did everything they could in a timely manner no matter what time of day, my furry friends and I will always choose Waves Vet. Cheers!
Hated this place... no compassion... had no idea how to deal a new born puppy in distress! Made us wait... with no one in waiting room... our pregnant girl was in such distress! The only shining light was, “Mary Lou”...such a sweetheart... do not go here ever!
When our cat was diagnosed with cancer we were referred to WAVES. The staff that we worked with were all so good with her, and walked us through everything step by step. We were able to make her as comfortable as possible in her final months and I am very grateful to them for their compassion and council.
Thank you for all of the care you’ve provided for my most important friend, Livi, over the past few days. I want to thank you for being there for me and him when he got to do an emergency fracture surgery. I’m really appreciate the efficiency and the amazing services you guys provided for my beloved boy Livi. I appreciate all the lovely receptionists and Dr.Bolliger, who goes above and beyond with his delicacy of the surgery techniques. You guys saved my boy. The surgery went very well, everyone shows patience and provided very professional services and attitudes, the fee is acceptable, actually the surgery bill cost way more less than what I’m expected it to be. So glad I’ve come to the right place, I went to Central Victoria veterinary hospital at the first place, they charged me over $600 JUST FOR THE X-RAYS. I hope everyone goes to WAVES cause everyone at WAVES considers our little family member’s life as top priority. Gonna be a regular visitor from now on(Although I wish my boy will be safe and sound, but if I had to bring him again I’ll go to WAVES without a shadow of a doubt!) Thanks again everyone!!!!!!!!
My golden retriever had a medical emergency yesterday afternoon. I was absolutely frantic after calling my vet and not being able to be seen and they suggested WAVES. From the moment we walked in I knew they would take great care of my boy. The receptionist was kind and caring (I was a bit of a wreck when arriving). The RVT was absolutely lovely and so sweet and gentle when examining my pup. Dr. Tannahill was also exceptional and provided clear recommendations for treatment. After leaving WAVES my dog was feeling so much better and today he is back to himself. This is a great facility with exceptionally kind staff and we are lucky to have it.
I have visited waves many times with my dog, she had her spay and ectopic ureter correction done there, so there has been a lot of ongoing communication / service from the internal medicine team. I really can't recommend this place enough - if you end up needing an emergency vet or specialist your pet couldn't find better care than this place. I also love the staff, they are so caring patient and knowledgable. I find it super expensive, but that isn't necessarily the fault of waves, just the procedures that my dog has needed - but be prepared it will cost, but you'll have the peace of mind that they will take amazing care of your pet.
A bit of a long wait but felt that our pet is in good hands. Very friendly staff. Thank you!
Came here as soon as I got up with my dog, waited for 45 minutes before I caught someone to tell them nobody had spoken to me, 10 minutes later, they took my dog in, I had to wait outside, 2 hours later I caught another person to ask fo an update, was told the doctor had not seen my dog yet, and, it could be up to another 2 hours before he did, a little communication would have given me an opportunity to get something to eat, as I had not even had a cup of coffee up to this point, now I am searching for someone to let my other dog out of my house, as he has been shut in all day, very poor communication, been waiting since 9.40am it's now 1.25pm
The staff and vet were all great and friendly when we came in after business hours with some acute concerns with our puppy (Louise). The staff were patient with us, informative, and helpful, and the space is new and quite comfortable. We did not have much of a wait to see the vet, and a treatment for Louise was administered right away with lots of helpful at-home instructions. They are a 24 hour clinic and encouraged us to call in the night if we had ongoing concerns - they offered to have Louise stay over night and, even though we took her home to monitor her, it was nice to know that option was available.
It's so hard to need to bring my pet into the emergency hospital....but if I have to, then this is where I take my dog. Thank you guys so much for being so understanding and patient!
When I arrived, Waves told me it would be around a 30-minute wait to see our dog who was vomiting consistently every 30 minutes. After an hour, I called and was told they had an influx of people come in and that they were triaging cases. After another 1.5 hours, I called and was told she was next on the board. With kids in school back in the valley and taking the morning off for work, I asked my husband to come takeover waiting. He works in the same parking lot as this vet office, and since she was next, I figured it wouldn't be much longer, and I could still get back to work to make my next meeting. Wrong again. After another hour, My husband explained that he worked within a 2-minute drive and asked to go back to his office, eat lunch, and work. They told him he would lose his place in line. So he waited another 2 hours! From the time we pulled in at 9:35 am to the time we could get her seen was just under 6-hours. Without a single in-person check to reassure us, and with no flexibility in allowing my husband's reasonable request to leave the parking lot and stay within a 5-minute return window. I am not impressed. Also, the high fee to pay for an "emergency" visit felt pretty ridiculous after waiting all day to be seen. They charged us even for trimming our dog's nails (I did agree to this because she is very anxious and because I felt it would be easier on her since she was sedated.) but come on - you couldn't waive that $33 fee after a 6-hour wait There was even another 45-minute wait to pick up my dog that evening. Waves, please remember, even though you are a medical facility for pets and your patients are desperate for care, you are still a BUSINESS and need to provide your customers with a better experience.
I can not praise WAVES and their incredible staff enough. I transferred my old girl there from another facility after being told there was nothing more that could be done and I couldn’t be happier with the care she received. Although her medical management was great, it was their compassion and dedication that really helped save her. It felt like all the staff cared and were rooting for her. She even came home with a little handkerchief with well wishes from a local elementary school class written on it. Dr Simmonds was the Doctor I worked with and she was great. She made sure to explain all my options, pros and cons to each. I never felt like I was being sold on something as a previous reviewer said. Through each stage I was given multiple options, including compassionate end of life care, and there was never any bias towards which way I should go. The only time I think there would have been some gentle encouragement would be if she was suffering and that euthanasia would be in her best interest. Thankfully that wasn’t the case and I am grateful to have her here next to me. As someone who works in medicine I know how expensive things are. I could appreciate how the general public may have sticker shock but I felt the pricing to be reasonable with all things considered. Again, I was presented with multiple options and not pressured towards any which one..from what would have been the cheapest to most expensive. Thank you again for your care and I wish you the best! I will certainly be returning if the need comes up, but will be hoping it won’t :)
Overall I would give Waves a good rating however I have a few points of feedback: 1. More thought needs be be put into the timing of the 'business end' of things (paperwork and payment). We unfortunately had to bring in our dog last week to have him put to sleep. It was sudden and was a horrible day/night for us. For the most part staff were great apart from the timing of a couple of things. As we were waiting on a vet to come in to insert an IV ahead of the procedure, the admin staff came to do additional paperwork and process payment. We found this to be hugely inappropriate in the timing of it all. We were trying to calm our scared dog and be with him in his last moments, and i'm having to stand there with a card machine in hand. Not ideal. My suggestion would be to get ALL paperwork and payment out of the way at the beginning if possible, so that it is less intrusive to those of us that are having to go through this with their beloved pet, who are already scared, stressed and hurting. 2. After the vet confirms the passing of a pet, I would suggest that they leave the room to give those grieving, some last few moments of time with their pet rather than just stand there waiting. We needed to ask to be given some time. 3. The lighting in the grieving room (i'm not sure that was the proper name), is not great. It was very dim with only a few small pot lights and so our friend had to turn on the flashlight on his phone to assist the doctors when they were inserting the IV. I know that normally this might have been done in an exam room where there was better lighting, but I might suggest adding a few additional pot lights and to have them on a dimmer? Not the end of the world I guess but just a thought. Overall the experience was fine for what it was, the staff were polite and did their best. I think just a little more thought needs to be put into how to handle the administrative process at times like these.
The team at Waves has been amazing during our last two visits. They offered friendly service, were extremely transparent with treatment plans and expected cost and were very supportive during our entire visit, never leaving us out of the loop on how our puppy was doing. Aftercare was thoroughly communicated and all questions and concerns were welcome. I wish this could be our regular vet, as they pay very close attention to all details! An amazing clinic!
They definitely helped my pet when I needed it but ended up charging me the wrong amount and giving me the improper invoice I'm guessing for the customer before me!
The Staff was attentive and reassuring. The Veterinarian who saw Jazz was great!
Dr. Winter was thorough and considerate with us and our dog
You guys are amazing !! My baby robin hood has had issues with his rear for a while and every single time a situation has come up you guys have treated robin and my family so well and with such compassion and empathy. He’s ready to go for surgery on the 17th and I couldn’t be any more grateful for your guys’ amazing service, thank you ! :)
WAVES just opened recently in my area and when we had an emergency in the middle of the night on a weekend, we raced our precious fur baby to have her looked at. It’s free to have a technician assess your pet and then you make the call if you want the vet see your pet (which costs money). Once we got a diagnosis and signed off on a quote for expected services, the team was quick to action and I knew my baby was in the right hands. It was extremely difficult to leave her overnight but I got phone call updates any time something changed or there was news to report. I feel so grateful that we have an emergency clinic in the westshore. The staff is so friendly and so knowledgeable. And it goes without saying, obviously they LOVE animals. Clean facility and again staff is wonderful and the staff that helped me really comforted me in such a stressful time with their own stories and happy endings. I’ve already recommended Waves to a handful of my friends - it’s comforting to have an emergency clinic close by. And thankfully, my Dinah is good as new!!!
I had never been to waves before and let me tell you it is the only place I will ever go agian... was in and out in 7 hours (emergency came in and my animal needed a procedure) they were sympathetic with my budget situation and were so nice and professional... Thank you to the staff last night for taking care of my baby..
Thank you so much to the staff for being so helpful and empathetic during the hard time of losing our beloved dog Yoda. My mother and I really appreciate that we were able to be with him for his last moments - especially during Covid. We would also like to thank the cremation services for making us a beautiful box for his remains and a clay paw print.
I’ve had to bring my dog here twice and both times I’ve been very impressed with the service and care they provide. It’s very evident that the people who work here really care about the animals they treat. The veterinarian I spoke to today, …
The staff here are amazing. I had to bring my dog in for some emergency treatment recently and even though they were busier than you can imagine, they treated us with love and care. I know that wait times can be long, that coupled with a lack of staff and it's amazing that these delightful humans can still have a smile on their face and love for all the sick animals. Love them and hope to not have to see them again soon!
When our cat, Wrinkles, was not breathing well, we searched emergency vets nearby and found WAVES....After seeing a plethora of positive reviews even among negative ones, we decided to call the clinic, and were advised to bring him in for an examination. So, we did just this... little did we know we would soon be facing a horrifying evening/night. When we brought Wrinkles in, he was triaged and it was deemed necessary that he see the veterinarian immediately. His vet this evening was Dr. Luke Winter. Wrinkles was placed into an oxygen chamber while Dr. Winter determined what the best course of action would be, knowing that Wrinkles had previously been diagnosed with asthma. Unfortunately, Wrinkles' oxygen levels were not increasing despite being placed in this chamber, and even after receiving oral and medications via injection, he was not getting any better. Throughout the evening, we repeatedly asked for updates as these were never provided unless we asked (at which point we would have to wait for 20-30 minutes to hear from anyone). Wrinkles was in the chamber for a total of 5 hours and with the exception of one time, we did not have any contact with him. However, we constantly heard the team laughing and yelling from the room he was in. Eventually, we got to see Wrinkles... I noticed immediately that the oxygen saturation was, in fact, quite low (having a healthcare background myself)... no wonder why Wrinkles was not breathing any better! I did question the veterinarian on this. He spoke about how he was reading literature on what would have caused Wrinkles to have a flare-up and why he was not getting better. It became clear that the vet was quite new to practice and was inexperienced in this area. While this explanation did not make a lot of sense, we decided to place our trust in the vet, and soon Wrinkle's oxygen levels were increased slightly, and we were able to take him home with a prescription for Prednisolone (knowing that we would be following up with his regular daytime vet the very next morning). However, when we took him home, over the night, we noticed that Wrinkles was still struggling to breathe. We returned to the emergency vet, where he was again provided oxygen. The vet told us that Wrinkles was dying... his mouth and nose were turning blue. We were then given a series of VERY expensive options and *literally* told that this was simply the capitalistic nature of the "vet industry" (actual words used!). While we were in shock, it was obvious that the dynamics within the vet team this night were chaotic. The technicians did not know how to access the computer or provide information on the costs associated with potential procedures. This had been a theme throughout the evening, and in the final moments of our beloved pet's life, we especially wish this hadn't been the case. We made the decision to put Wrinkles to sleep, acknowledging that the expensive treatment options would likely be distressing to him and were not likely to be successful. This was one of the most painful moments I have ever experienced. The technician told us candidly that these were awkward conversations to have to have, and that she did not feel comfortable having these types of conversations with clients. We were in dismay...all staff at an emergency vet clinic should be trained, well-informed, and prepared on discussing the procedures involved in euthanasia as well as the various experiences that humans may undergo after in the form of bereavement and grief. No external resources were made available to us as it relates to counselling or addressing the grief/loss over a pet, in general, even when inquiring. All in all, we would not recommend this particular emergency vet clinic...Not because of Wrinkles' passing, but because of the lack of competency and professionalism we received. We saw several animals pass that evening, and were told that staffing issues resulted from the clinic's management (who recently decided that the clinic should remain open 24-hours during the week with the exception of 2 days).
Brought our Cat in who was lethargic, sneezing and wheezing, and from the time we entered to the time we left, the care Rosy (and I) received was above and beyond. The Tech and the Dr. both took the time to thoroughly examine and review our tuckered tabby's history before coming up with possible solutions. They kept me informed of the costs and gave me everything in writing including instructions on her care once I got her home. Wish I could take her there for her regular checkups and shots, well worth the drive.
There isn’t enough positive things to say about this place. The staff as well as doctors are compassionate, communicative and really go above and beyond as much as they can to give the best care to your furry loved ones. I really hope I never have to experience the kind of emergency as I did with my kitty who ultimately passed but it’s a comfort knowing there’s a place like this if and when the time arises. Thank you for everything you did.
Although they are a bit pricey, it is so worth having an emergency vet clinic so close to Sooke. This was my third visit there and every vet I have had has been very caring and very professional. I wouldn't hesitate taking my cat in there when he (and I!) needs good care and sympathy!
Our dog required emergency back surgery and WAVES took amazing care of our girl from start to finish. Dr. Bolliger was informative, professional and very confident he could restore Sherlock to an excellent quality of life when we ourselves feared to worst and had many doubts. Trina provided amazing rehab services after surgery and our girl is now thriving yet again. My one piece of constructive feedback would be to work on communication between staff members. We had substantial issues acquiring our bill (which in their defence, was complicated and covered mostly by our insurance policy) and I am still waiting to receive my paid receipt as promised. That is the only reason I didn't give 5 stars. They are amazing and I am so glad this clinic is now available in the Westshore area. :)
Spent over $4000 to try to help my best friend. Spent over 18 hours waiting in the car. Spent “extra” to get tests done quickly and it still took a week to get no results. Poor communication and clear lack of care or compassion. Quick to charge you and make you sign documents so they aren’t responsible. Charged me for medication my pet never received. My experience here was terrible and the entire staff should be ashamed of themselves.
Always great people, kind, compassionate and very patient with our dog, Murphy. So happy to have these folks close by!
Took my dog in for a moderate laceration. Was told it would be two to 3 hours. After 3 hours without hearing from them I called for an update and was told I would be called back within 5 minutes. Another hour later finally received a call from the vet who said it would be a further three hours. I can't comment on the quality of their service but their professionalism or lack thereof was astounding. After all of this I took my dog to another vet
Even though the experience ended up costing a couple grand, I am extremely happy they were available in the middle of the night to help my fur baby. They were so helpful and informative. Throughout the 3 days my kitty was there they updated me every morning and every night and made sure I knew what was going on with him. When I got to take him home they sent me home with thorough instructions on how and when to give him the medications. In an emergency situation I would definitely recommend bringing your pet here.
Tonight was our first experience with Waves, they made us feel very comfortable & calm with our mini emergency. The front desk staff were super friendly and the Vet Tech was very helpful, Thank you Brandy! We will definitely be coming back in the future!
Woke up to a very sick puppy. Went to Waves and am very impressed with the level of care and professionalism as well as answerimg all my questions. After x-rays cleared any concerns of blockages in the stomach/intestines, an anti nausea injection was administered. Dr. Adam Bentley tended to our puppy and talked with me for about 10 minutes after our visit to go over questions and possible reasons/solutions. It was a comforting experience in an uncomfortable situation. Very happy with the visit. Opie is now resting on the couch at home ♥️.
I am so grateful for the entire team at WAVES. I called about my 8-week old puppy suffering from vomiting, diarrhea, and lethargy. His symptoms were relatively mild and seemed non-urgent, but they did a SNAP Parvo test first thing and when it came back positive, they did a second SNAP test to make sure (which they didn't charge me for). Dr. Luke Winter came outside to break the horrible news to me that my puppy tested positive again, and patiently explained my options and the associated costs. He was completely transparent with me from start to end about all of my options, how much each treatment would cost, what he felt was (and wasn't) necessary for my puppy, and he got the ok from me for absolutely everything before they did it. They were overwhelmed with many other emergency patients and only two doctors, but no one at WAVES rushed our conversations or my decisions, everyone was so sweet, and still took the time to check in with me when they saw how distressed I was. Everyone I interacted with was so compassionate, kind, and patient - not only with me (a sobbing mess), but my absolutely terrified puppy who struggled, screamed, and probably did his best to bite them as much as possible the entire time they were prepping and treating him. Thank you all so much, my puppy is doing amazing and is back to himself just 3 days later. You guys saved him.
The staff is very friendly and helpful. Have spent the weekend in and out of there with my mom's cat. Very understanding staff with our situation, we have a few weeks of visits and they are very accommodating with our hectic work schedule. Very thankful for their help in the recovery of pumpkin. You guys are amazing and are doing a wonderful job, keep up the great work. So thankful you are down the street from us. Thank you for everything you are doing to make pumpkin healthy and for her to heal properly.
The staff, doctors, and technicians at this clinic are amazing. They have some of the most skilled and caring people to look after your animal. They have all the equipment needed to give your pet the best possible chance of recovery and treatment possible. It is stressful when your pet is in rough shape and needs emergency treatment, but when they are here, they are in the best hands possible.
I took my cat into WAVES as he was having breathing difficulties and vomiting, etc, I explained I was certain he had something lodged in his throat and specifically stated I suspected it was a piece of ornamental grass. A vet saw my cat, looked in his mouth, said he was fine and discharged him then they charged me a hefty emerg fee. My cat suffered all night with vomiting and laboured breathing, I took him back in the morning and insisted he be sedated and properly checked. I waited 4 hours in my car with my cat, with the AC on, on what was one of the hottest days of the year (38 degrees), the staff were scrambling and disorganized. He was finally taken in after I called and asked why I had been waiting 4 hours and yet to see anyone. He was finally seen by another vet than the initial visit and it turned out he had a 4 inch piece of hard ornamental grass lodged in his throat. I was, again, charged a revisit fee. The two visits totalled approx $700. I explained I did not think this was fair as the first vet did not properly do their due diligence but it fell on deaf ears. I emailed a compliant and it was ignored, this was weeks ago and no response. I will now follow up with the college of BC veterinarians. I recommend taking your animal elsewhere if you them to be in trusted hands.
We had to bring my dog Luna to Waves. She was extremely sick and had a very low red blood cell count. She went into Waves for several days. She had many tests performed. She had to have 3 blood transfusions. The staff at Waves took care of my baby Luna, they truly are a very caring kind and dedicated team. She would not have lived the extra 6 months we got to have her in our lives for. Luna was diagnosed was IMHA. That is a word you never want to hear your precious fur baby has. She was on a lot of medications, but we still had her love for 6 extra months. One of the unfortunate things about IMHA is your animal either gets better after around 6 months or they decline. Unfortunately that was Lunas case. We took her into Waves on April 5th but Luna was too sick so we decided to take her home so she could be with us. The next day I had to put my sweet girl to rest. Waves is amazing. Throughout this nightmare they were so incredibly kind. The people who work at Waves truly care about your fur baby. If it hadn't been for Waves we would never have gotten an extra 6 months with her having this very aggressive, horrible disease. Thank you so very much to all of the staff and Dr.Branter. You gave me the time my family needed to love and spoil Luna. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Pamela Janzen
Expensive. Over $900 for a UTI. I had sedated my cat before I brought her in because she is difficult at the vet. I told the vet's assistant this when I dropped her off. The vet called me saying there was something really wrong with her she couldn't even stand.
We had to take Leo our 4 year old cat into Waves on an emergency basis because he had been throwing up and not eating or drinking for a day. Even though we were under the Covid protocol the staff kept us informed and the veterinarian came out to our car and let us know our options for care of Leo. Leo received fluids and medication for his upset tummy and we were able to take him home the same day. We received a written report from the veterinarian, Dr. Hansford, which we very much appreciated. We were expecting a higher bill so what we were presented with was a very nice surprise. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Waves to any pet owner with an animal related emergency. They are terrific!
Best service ever. They give you the recommendations with pricetags and they even let you know the risk factors what doesn’t need to get done in the moment but to monitor. I’m extremely blessed we have WAVES on the island
Phenomenal experience. The staff are incredibly caring towards all the animals. We went in with a slightly scary situation for our cat, and they were amazing. They explained everything thoroughly, and helped determine a course of action to help our baby. We are incredibly grateful to all of the staff at waves for all of their help. Be prepared for a hospital type wait, but its worth it.
My Samoyed was showing signs of an obstruction at 4am on the long weekend while I was out of town. My boyfriend felt uncomfortable taking her to another, closer emergency vet due to the reviews he read. He decided to go with WAVES and I could not agree more with his decision. They kept in frequent contact, were very upfront with potential risks and costs, and gave us options for her care. They even took phone calls from her co-owner as she is a show dog. I felt very secure leaving her in WAVES hands even though I didn't meet any staff myself until I was taking her home. I am recommending WAVES to all animal owners I know but I hope they never need to use their services! I felt their costs were absolutely fair considering the amount of care she needed in such short notice - the cost was due to our errors.
Waves is amazing. A couple weeks ago I heard that Waves is worth the extra 20 minute drive from downtown Victoria if your animal needed care. On February Tuesday 9th my 13 pound Pomeranian was attacked by an Irish Wolf Hound. Biggie suffered from broken ribs, and a punctured lung (and some other things). Waves was so good to him and to us. They sent us updated pictures of his 48 hour stay. They were okay with my multiple update phone calls. Everytime they had to proceed with something they would confirm with me and told me the price. I love Waves. Please take your animal there. Thank you to Dr. Erin Simmons, Dr. Angelika Stoutamyer, Dr. Nathan Bodnar, and the wonderful receptionists at Waves. You truly saved Biggies life and for that I'm forever thankful. ❤️
Last week my 10 month old puppy swallowed a ball and Waves was wonderful in getting Aspen the care he needed. They were busy, but they checked-in over the phone multiple times when I arrived about their process and wait times so I knew what to expect. They were able to get Aspen in for an endoscopy relatively quick and were upfront about all charges. They answered all my questions and concerns and made it a fairly smooth experience in a scary situation. Aspen is fully recovered and doesn't seem to know anything had happened!
I highly recommend Waves Vet. They are professional and very knowledgeable while being compassionate. Our animal was treated very fast. If you live on Vancouver Island and have an emergency with your pet, Take your them to Waves, any time of day or night.
Very professional, excellent staff. I would totally recommend this animal hospital for all your emergency needs. Thank you to the technicians and doctors for tending to my dog Kaslo!❤.. Darrell Taylor
Can't speak to the quality of service since we didn't receive any. My husband called ahead yesterday about our mini bull terrier and filled out the intake form. He told them over the phone that he didn't have a cell phone and was told, no problem, just ring the doorbell when you arrive. He got there 30 minutes later and rang the doorbell. Everyone at the front desk looked up and then, nothing. He waited for half an hour, rang the doorbell again - staff passed him at the entrance dressed in scrubs and promptly ignored him. I get it, it's COVID-19 and everyone's busy - but to simply ignore an emergency?? Someone could have come out to say we'll be right with you, or sorry we're just dealing with something, give us a minute. But, nope, nothing. He gave up and came home with our poor boy. Thankfully our regular vet called us as we had left a message with them. We've got him scheduled for a visit today. I won't bother with Waves again and will instead go to the Emergency hospital in Victoria. They've always been fabulous.
Everyone we dealt with was very kind and compassionate. They got our girl in quickly and did everything they could to help her. Unfortunately we ended up having to let our girl go but they were super understanding and gave us time to say our goodbyes and explained everything we needed to know about what would come next. As much as I hope we never have to go back, they are the first place I would go to if any pet of mine needed emergent care.
The care my dog received while at WAVES was nothing short of outstanding. Lexi was a complicated case that spanned over a few weeks. She ended up requiring an amputation surgery, post-op care for an infection and treatment for a few other unexpected issues that arose. The veterinarians, and their team, at WAVES worked so incredibly hard with Lexi. The compassion and care they gave her, and me, was so good that I truly have only positive things to say. We unfortunately had to say goodbye to my girl, but I will be forever grateful for all they did.
Our puppy got the best of care after having a disagreement with the cat...and we got great care too! So impressed with the calm, patient and thorough explanations of medications and followup care. I highly recommend Waves for the emergency care of your pets.
Absolutely amazing ..clean covid friendly establishment.. very helpful, kind..caring, friendly and knowledgeable staff !!! Well run
We are so grateful to have met such an amazing team to operate on our toy poodle, Mochi. She was diagnosed with ectopic ureters. We were originally going to have the procedure done at Canada West Hospital but we are so glad we choose to go …
A terrible experience from an organization focused on income. PLEASE DONT BRING YOUR PET HERE!!! I brought my cat into waves worried about his life and was not helped in the slightest. my cat was acting strange so I brought him in, the vet at waves gave me an incorrect diagnosis and sent me off saying he'd be fine in a couple days. flash forward a week and my cat is unable to hold up his own head let alone walk. I proceeded to bring him into a different veterinarian and was told that he is now special needs and that it would cost thousands of dollars to even identify the problem as it was left too long and that its best he is euthanized. a few side notes; waves tried to charge me $1200 for his physical exam. waves denied me information about my cat for multiple hours while he was in their care. waves refused to send over my cats information to the other veterinarian office. to conclude, I have to put down my beloved boy due to waves and their negligence. this company is focused on the income and not on the pet. please don't bring your pets their and feed a greedy corporation.
Have had to take my pets there a few times. Excellent experience
We are not sure how to express our gratitude for the amazing love, care and compassion they provided to our babies. We are absolutely blessed to have such an amazing, professional and compassionate team care for Akira , Cinco and Nina. Thank you
Dr.Bentley was so thorough with the care he gave my senior cat. I appreciated his knowledge and how he showed my cat and my family alot of compassion. Thank you for your care. ????❤⚘
Excellent people here as they helped us with our cat in a serious grave state Could have charged us more for what they did but were emphatic and fair They are recommended by our Elk Lake Vet for emergencies.
Dr. Winter was phenomenal and very patient and understanding when we took our furry family member in after a seizure. Everyone that we encountered at Waves was so caring and considerate.
Open for emergencies. A bit pricey! But they are there when there is no one else for your pet emergencies or care.
I have been to this vet twice for two different animals, I find the service is amazing, they are very caring at Waves Veterinary. I will always recommend this place for emergencies for your animals as they are very professional in the …
Absolutely the best emergency vet hospital. The reception staff are very friendly. The vets very knowledgeable. Especially at a time of high stress with a very sick pet. My Lilypad is on the mend thanks to them! Can't thank them enough! Highly recommend!!!
i knew my most beloved fur baby was very sick but i needed to try and make him more comfortable until our most devastating time to decide to relieve all his pain. The attending vet seemed quite concerned up until i decided not to do all the 1600$ heroics for an overnight stay at which point she proceeded to tell me she would report me to the humane society.I wanted to take him home to a familiar, loving environment so our family could say goodbye. There was no compassion whatsoever and if there was why wasn't the pain medication or antibiotics started at the clinic instead of a devastated pet owner at 0200 left to do so at home. These are the memories I now have.Would never recommend this place to anyone.
I highly recommend Waves. Going to emergency for your fur baby is never a fun experience but they help as best they can. They are compassionate and understanding but also really straightforward about costs, options and expectations. Their follow up has also been amazing. If you are debating btw VCA and Waves.. I have been to both and hands down our experience with Waves was way better. They are worth the drive
We moved to the island a little over a year ago and in that year had to bring our tiny dog Peanut to WAVES 3 times. Each time we were very impressed with how quick, efficient and caring the staff were. The 3rd visit was 3 weeks ago and to our dismay it ended up with us having to make the devastating decision to have our baby put to sleep. The vets who took care of her in the 3 days she was there were so compassionate and knowledgeable and made sure that we were kept informed of how she was progressing (or not), what the treatment plan was and what the chances were that we would see a recovery or not. Because of Covid we couldn’t be with Peanut for much of the 3 days she spent in the vet but we received pictures via email of her every night and then the day that we put her to sleep they were able to let us spend time with her outside and just enjoying each other’s company. When we made the decision the vet and all the staff made it so comfortable and stress free which we truly can’t thank them enough for. Even our dog who is normally a shaker at the vet was so calm and just relaxing g in our arms. We got to hold her while the procedure was done and she knew we were with her the whole time. So thankful to have this wonderful place here for our animals and here for us owners too.
They have taken exceptional care of my poor Stella, a 7 month old Lab puppy who decided to dive out the car window. She sustained multiple injuries. The surgeon was extremely informative and kept us involved every step of the way.
Our 11 week old Golden Retriever Puppy needed emergency surgery at WAVES last weekend. The staff are experts in their field and didn't waste any time in getting Dylan into surgery. She is doing amazing 1 week later and we are so thankful for their expertise! The staff were caring, compassionate and well worth the price! They are very dedicated professionals and work long hours, Dylan's Dr. was on her 14th hour! So, thanks again for your dedication! HIghly recommend!
Thank you to Waves for treating our boy Ely. Unfortunately it was not a good outcome for our corgi as we had to put him to sleep. But all staff, Rose, Julia and Dr Branter were most helpful, understanding and compassionate. Thank you
I've been waiting for just over 2 hrs for someone to look at my cat. After I called for the third time bcs my cat was seriously stressed , at least they finally let us wait inside after an hour of waiting in the car in +30 degrees heat. I know from the past they were ok. Have things changed? This is poor and uninformative service... Still haven't had my cat triaged and don't know why ... Maybe they forgot us?
Vet tech and vet were very cold hearted. Basically telling us to euthanize our dog when he had a chance. Didn’t give him medicine when he needed it.
We are very happy with the care that Sawyer received today, and with the reasonable fee. Everyone was really nice. The wait was much longer than expected, but there were many options nearby for passing the time, including a walking trail, Starbucks, and Westshore Mall.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart to the team at Waves. I had to bring my dog in for a emergent surgery and from the time I hurriedly dropped her off to the time of her discharge from the hospital, the team was so kind, caring and communicative. You can tell they truly care for the animals that come in and for their families. I really can’t thank them enough for saving my dogs life.
Just checking out the Emergency Animal Hospitals location. Hope to never need their services! But were very friendly, took time to talk with me, very proud of their Hospital.
Our sick 6 month old Kitten Lupin received compassionate , authentic and excellent care.
Had never been here. Unfortunately circumstances but these people were hands down the best vet I have been to yet! I would highly recommend picking this over anywhere else! I can't thank you enough for everything you did for our dog!
waited in hot weather in parking lot and never saw anyone or was told it was going to be over 3 hours. We then saw 2 dogs dragged in on collar/leash because owners not permitted in. We left as as our 48 lbs bulldog with sore leg would be to afraid to go in by herself. Please change procedures we need you.
I took my poor old girl to Waves with a life-threatening condition. The staff were fast, professional, and empathetic, yet frank. They didn’t pressure me, and I felt I made an informed choice. The criticalist doctor, staff and surgeon were all wonderful, and Kali made it through. Thank you taking care of my family. ❤️ ???? ❤️
Our Frenchie broke his right leg, and they treated him so well during his 3 night stay and surgery. They continued to follow up, send us pictures every day of him, and gave clear instructions on how to care for him, and what to expect over the coming weeks.
Fantastic service, our cat was in for a couple of days. We were updated on his progress, even sent us pictures at bedtime! When we picked him up we were even refunded part of our deposit! They were also flexible regarding pick up time which was very appreciated!
It wasn't the the best visit , because we had to drive from Duncan to Langford ( to Waves) for an emergency vet visit , because there isn't one 24hr emergency vet in the Cowchian Valley . And by the time we got there our 12yr old pom was clinging to life . Where Waves staff took her and did everything they possibly could to save her , but to no avail our baby girl passed away . The staff at Waves are awesome I recommend them to everybody. They are the best vet clinic I've ever been to . I can't say enough about how wonderful, compassionate, professional and generally caring that they were with the treatment of not only our baby, but with ourselves as well.
The entire staff I dealt with were kind, compassionate and caring during one of the most difficult nights of my life. They were upfront, gave me time to make decisions and were compassionate. Treated my son, myself and most of all my 18 year old kitty with kindness and dignity. Thank You.
I can’t say enough good things about Dr Bolliger and his team. The staff and Dr are kind, attentive and Dr Bolliger is an expert. My 7 year old cat had to have surgery and stay 4 days in hospital. Dr Bolliger made this very scary time for me into a comfortable experience. I was informed every step of the way and felt listened to and knew my girl was in the best hands. Thank you thank you thank you.
Two weeks ago I brought my dog in for surgery on both of his knees. I was honestly very sceptical at first when my vet referred me to waves, because they were so new and I also saw a review saying the people that work there have no empathy ... When I saw that I started calling all over the island to see if anyone else did the surgery. But everyone told me to go to Waves and told me how amazing they were. After about 10 other vet hospitals recommended waves I called and set up his consult and surgery on the same day. I was very nervous at first but everyone that worked there made me feel like I was making the right choice by choosing them. I was told that the first two weeks of Bruno’s recovery would be extremely difficult and that I should be prepared. Thankfully I have a super dog and he was up and walking the next day. I would recommend any pet owner to go to Waves I felt like I was given lots of information before hand and even if I called and had a question it was answered! I can’t thank Waves enough for taking away Bruno’s pain!
This place I would never refer people to. My friend had an emergency and had to pay up front before they would take care of the dog. Not everyone can come up with 2500 just like that. Seemed like they would let him die first
Amazing after hours service during the Covid-19 mess. The staff figured out a way to make sure that everyone was safe while taking great care of our dog. After the Tech did a quick check over, she told us that our dog was ok and they did not even bill us for the check up. We donated to their "angel" program for people with pets who can not afford to pay the vet. Fantastic business!
Wow! This animal hospital was absolutely the best place in town for your animal doctor needs. Our Black Lab had a long happy life and was at the point where we all hate to be at . It was time for her to go to a better place. All the Techs and the Vet were so compassionate. They went above and beyond for support. Thank you guys we appreciate all the help and compassion at a very tough point in any pet owners life. Wish I could rate you 6 Stars!
My dog was transferred to Waves for a blood transfusion and an internal medicine consultation. Dr. Branter, Brodie, and all the staff were amazing! I received updates and pictures of my dog regularly. They also took the time to hold and snuggle my dog so he felt loved while he was away from his family. This was my first time at Waves and I was beyond impressed, they saved my dogs life!
I brought my sick dog in on Tuesday in the morning due to recurrent diarrhea, loss if appetite, vomiting, muscle loss. I had seen my local vet and also brought recent blood and urine screens. The vet was kind, explained the recommendations for further lab testing for urine screens culture, cortisol results and ultrasound. The total that I paid was $1727.31 I was told on Tuesday that lab results would be expected back on Thursday. Thursday morning I called in at 11:30. I was told that the lab results had come back and I would receive a call from the vet as soon as they were able. I called again at 3pm and was told that I was the top of the list for the vet to call back regarding the test results but there were some critically ill patients that had been in and he (the vet) was run off his feet and would call as soon as he could. I called at 5:40 asking for a call back from the receptionist once they could confirm when I could expect to hear from the vet about the results. I called again at 6:30 asking for a manager as I had not received any call back from reception to confirm when a vet would be calling me. I received a call back at 6:40 and was told that the urine screen that had been completed would take a week to get back. I had never been informed of this on Tuesday. I was told results would be in Thursday which was confirmed by the receptionist when I call Thursday morning. They are now saying the stress and cortisol, B12 tests results have not been received. I have still not heard from any veterinarian. I have no direction on what I should be doing for my dog aside from a recommendation of changing food (which I have followed). I will be looking into small claims court and filing a complaint with the college of veterinarians in bc.
This is the best animal hospital, they saved my dogs life. All the staff and doctors there are so kind and caring. The facility is nice with lots of parking. They have more technology and resources then any other hospital on the island and …
Amazing team. Unbelievable care and treatment given. Diagnosis was quick and life saving surgery happened only hours later. The cost came in under what we were quoted. They saved our dogs life and we're very greatful. Thank you so much.
Thank you so much to Dr. Adam Bentley and the excellent staff at Waves. Happy to report that Suzy has fully recovered and back to her energetic self. A very positive experience from check-in to discharge. The girls at the front desk were very professional and caring and Dr. Bentley was amazing! Excellent communication (3 separate calls) to explain his diagnosis and plan. In and out in about 4 to 5 hours and the cost of treatment was reasonable, thank you again. Highly Recommended!
From Rebecca answering our frantic call to Dr Christianson attending to our loved beagle we were very impressed with their compassion and professionalism. We just wish there had been a happier outcome.
They really really helped me deal with the fact that one of my best friends was on death's door. They told me it was the right decision to bring him in and that he was unwell. There was a really nice private quiet room witch couches and blankets and tissues where I could grieve and a door to the parking lot from that room so I didnt have to walk through the clinic with everyone looking at me. I can't thank her enough for her compassion and help in my time of need thank you so much.
So my wife took our cat to this place this past Sunday and was charged $740 for some tests( blood work, xrays, consult)! After that shock was hit with a shocking price of $3500 more dollars to perform the hernia operation on our 9 year old cat. Shocked and in disbelief we took our cat home that day. We again reached out to our vet who currently isn’t performing operations to see if there are any other vets who could perform this at a much more reasonable price. Our vet called around and set us up with a vet here in Duncan to perform the surgery. My cat was home 6 hours later today after being dropped off for surgery. She is fixed, eating, happy and well! This came at a price of $595 all in!!!!!! Compared to $3500! Absolutely insane. I am posting thing to let people know there are options out there. You don’t have to make handcuffed decisions that can be financially devastating. Please do not ever go here unless you absolutely have to!
Brought our fur babe in in pretty rough shape after he ingested something toxic. The staff had him assessed and treated quickly, and the vets were great about calling us with regular updates, while we sat at home losing our minds. We thought we were going to lose him and now he is coming home for close monitoring! Emergency vet medicine is always going to be expensive, but it was worth every penny and actually turned out to be less than we were initially quoted.
Waves were so compassionate when we had to put our beloved Golden Retiever down. The Vet was actually tearing up a bit, and the receptionist Megan was so kind. I didn't compare costs but the fee seemed reasonable. Highly recommended if you need a 24hr vet. Waves helped us when the Nanaimo Emergency vet only had 1 vet in for the night and they told us it would be a very long wait. We would have watched our dog slowly die in pain while we waited . Waves helped us immediately to help us end her suffering. Thank you Waves! We will never forget your kindness during this tough time.
Reasonable service initially but lack of follow up and poor communication post payment. We booked an appointment for specialist follow up at WAVES for our dog as was …
The staff was very friendly and nice. It may take a little while to wait for the doctor but they already are the fastest one on the island. Also the charge was reasonable. My baby got much better immediately.
Words cannot express our profound gratitude to WAVES. The care team at WAVES literally saved our cat's life. We live in the Cowichan Valley and have an amazing vet, but there are no 24/7 emergency vet services in our area and there is nothing worse than having one of your fury family members have a medical emergency at a time when all veterinary services are closed... This is where WAVES came in and saved the day! We rushed our cat down to WAVES and were met with a caring and empathic team of professional staff who gave our cat the most exceptional care every step of the way. It has been a few months since our cat's accident and our experience with WAVES, and I can't tell you how frequently we talk about how you would never know our cat had been in a bad accident because of the amazing job that WAVES did and how perfectly our little Vincent healed!! Highly recommend, our minds are at ease knowing we can always count on WAVES. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
In my time of need, it became about getting $200 consulting fee in addition to normal cost for putting my poor dogs down. Shame on you!
Dr. Branter saved our dog. We spent thousands at a local vet in Nanaimo prior to driving down to Victoria to see Dr. Branter and were very hesitant and scared. In retrospect I wish we had known to go to Dr. Branter sooner. Within the first few minutes of our consult she told us her plan to get our dog back. It was terrifying to be given such hope when the day before we were mentally preparing to say goodbye to our sweet boy. Her confidence was exactly what we needed and we trusted her. She was amazing and explained everything in immense detail and talked us through our options every step of the way. She really reassured us that at the end of the day it was our dog and it was our decision and she would support us through whatever care path we decided to pursue. We could not be more thankful to the team at Waves because Charlie is here with us today and he is happy. We thought he would never be the same but he's back and as goofy, cute and sweet as ever. With Dr. Branter's recommendations Charlie is back to himself. He enjoys every day like nothing happened and we have him on the right medications which Dr. Branter is monitoring and working with us to titrate over time. Thank you so much to the team who were amazing during a really scary and stressful time for our family.
My pup had a slipped disc in her back and was crying which was heartbreaking, I brought her to Waves and they treated her so well and prescribed some anti inflammatory medication which took her pain away. They also called a couple days after to ask how she was doing. I’m really thankful for your services.
We took our cat there because he was not eating or drinking. My husband waited in the car with him for 3 hours and they came and took him in and left my husband waiting for information. They said he would be called for consent soon. After another 2 hours he went in to use the washroom and said he had been waiting for a call. The person at the desk said it should be soon, he got back to the car and got a call right away. This makes me think he was forgotten about. He was told he could go home and wait for a call about what to do next. We got a call 5 hours later, 2:30am, that they wanted to hospitalize him and rehydrate him. The next morning he was admitted for 48 hours for a kidney infection. Two days later I brought him home after paying a $1900 bill and he passed four hours later. When we called because we did not know what to do they took him and charged us another $100 to cremate him. I feel like we just spent $2000 to give our best boy a horrible death.
If I could put a minus star review I would. Tonight I came home after work to find my girl with an open, oozing and continuously bleeding wound on her side, followed by a few more around the large wound. I called WAVES to see how busy they were, as I totally understand that this is not a life nor death emergency, and also wanted their expert opinion as to whether or not I should wait until Monday for my regular vet or come in tonight. After talking to the very kind receptionist she advised me it would be best to come in tonight and I absolutely agreed. This was completely out of the ordinary for her and I was very concerned she may have an infection and fever. So I drove from Shawnigan Lake to Langford to get her checked out after I was advised to. When we first stepped into the hospital it was very welcoming, receptionist was wonderful and very kind to my dog Alice, she had us weigh in then wait for the Vet Tech to come and take Alice's vitals. We eventually got brought into an examination room where a vet tech came in. Such an amazing person, was absolutely flawless with my dog, even after she took her temperature Alice still was obsessed with her, she made her and myself feel totally comfortable, and at that point I was confident we would get to the bottom of whatever was going on, or at least get Alice some relief for the night (or two) until we were able to see our regular vet this coming week. We waited in the waiting room then we were brought into the examination room once again , but to wait for the doctor this time. The doctor came into the room and was oddly awkward right away. I thought maybe it was because Alice is a 'Bully Breed', so I tried to let her know that she actually does really well at the vet and loves the attention (ask the techs and assistants. ) I did not get much of a response. She immediately started off with "so what is your dog's previous history, I know you already said it all and need to repeat yourself but.." I was like no problem at all! So I explained her previous skin issues and health issues over the 9 years I owned her. I explained the current issues that are going on now and that i was so worried about her I had to bring her in at 10pm on a Saturday after work. She very briefly looked her over and said -obviously after seeing the techs notes from her temperature and vitals- "well it does not seem like she is about to acutely deteriorate tonight so she is fine, follow up with your regular veterinarian, I am an emergency veterinarian and I don't know much about skin issues." So I apologized for bringing my dog in, after spending over $300 for her to be incredibly rude to me, give me a bravecto pill and some sanitary wipes to clean my dog's open and oozing wounds. Definitely the last time I will be going here, very upset I suggested your business so highly after my last dogs emergency incident. I came from shawnigan lake and will for sure be going to nanaimo for any emergency services after tonight. Thanks again, Dr. Goodall! EDIT *** Unfortunately it will not let me respond to your comment on here. I clearly stated I was going to bring her into our regular vet. It was Saturday at the time. My vet does not open until Monday. Very good possibility he is booked for the week and i would have to wait for an appointment. I called your office before coming in and explained the whole situation to your receptionist. She advised I come in. I don't understand why I am being made out to be the bad guy for bringing my dog in who I was clearly very concerned about.
We couldn't get into our regular vet for an emergency visit so came here. Amazing, caring vet and techs. Even with COVID restrictions, our dog was in and out within 90 minutes. Every option was presented and explained and I felt confident with the route we chose. If your pet ever needs to see a vet immediately, I would highly recommend WAVES!!
I recently brought my dog in who needed to have a foreign object scoped from his stomach. Unfortunately, this is not the first time this has happened. Waves was friendly, empathetic, and much faster in the process than my prior experience. They were also affordable and actually under charged their quote by a large sum. Was very impressed and thankful for Waves.
I was referred by my primary vet to see the internal medicine specialist at this hospital right away, but the hospital vet wouldn't let me see the specialist unless I admit my dog. The hospital vet did a blood draw to check my dog's calcium levels, even though my vet already submitted all updated records and a test to see calcium levels which was done a day ago. They confirmed that my dog needs to see a specialist but she's not working that day and will be in the next day. They told me she doesn't really need the fluids and food but they just wanted to keep her overnight to wait for the specialist to come in. It was either admit my dog (to which she doesn't necessarily need) and be able to see a specialist the next day or wait for the next available appointment which will be next month. My vet believed that my dog's condition couldn't wait too long so I went back to the hospital the next day to get a second opinion from a different emergency vet and see if I'm able to see the specialist. The specialist was in but the hospital vet insisted that she's fully booked and that I should still admit my dog to secure a meeting with the specialist the next day. If I dont want to admit my dog, they wanted a referral form even though my vet was on the phone with them to refer me to the specialist and the receptionist specifically said they don't need to submit a referral form. There were no new findings for the second visit and I was charged a 'Recheck Appointment'. All they did was tell me that I can't see a specialist because I need a referral form. The referral form was submitted by my vet immediately and the hospital still wouldn't let me see the specialist that day. The internal medicine team also specifically told me that if anything happens to my dog and I'm in the emergency hospital again, I won't be waiting for my appointment for the next month and will be accommodated accordingly. I went to this hospital twice and spent hundreds of dollars to be informed that my dog has low calcium (which I already know prior), that she needs to see a specialist (which was the primary reason I was there because my vet referred me to the specialist working in that hospital), and to inform me that I need a referral form to see the specialist (even though the receptionist told my vet they don't need to submit one).
All the staff were very compassionate and caring while still being professional. They were wonderful.
I am grateful for this Animal hospital! They are respectful and inform you of what may be happening and trouble shoot with you for proper treatment. Very respectful, I definitely recommend
We took Shad to WAVES as he was throwing up continually. After an ultra sound it was discovered that he had a blockage in his intestine from pieces from a rope pull toy which required surgery. He remained in hospital for 6 days after the surgery. During this time we were updated on his recovery at least twice a day by helpful staff-vets, techs & front desk staff. Upon noting that Shad felt the heat, a fan was put in his pen to make him more comfortable-very thoughtful. All costs were approved by us before they were done. I had approved one cost to be done during surgery but the surgeon did not do that part of the surgery as he found that it was not necessary once he looked inside Shad. Needless to say that we were not charged for it. Yes we had a good sized bill BUT we have a happy healthy dog at home now. Where else would he have had 24 hour care-giving meds, trying to get him to eat, human company, vet on call, up to date equipment to check on his progress & needs. The care that he was given helped keep our stress level in control. Shad's sister & mother have also been helped by WAVES. We hope never to have to have to deal with another emergency but would not hesitate for a moment to return to WAVES & trust Shad's care to them. Thank you to one & all on the WAVES team.
The surgeon who's name escapes me did the most thorough presentation of surgeries and options of any doctor I have experienced, this includes doctors working on humans as well. I have worked with a lot of doctors especially in Vancouver General Hospital and through their old ER.
