We have been taking our animals here for 30 years. The staff are amazing! Everyone is smiling, happy, attentive, and part of my animals extended world! I take all of my crew to Dr. Michaud when possible as I like to have the same vet like we have the same GP. Plus she is able to handle all of our animals including my Tortie who is a cat with such a friendly disposition. Lol. This is a top notch animal hospital!

Been going to Petroglyph for our furbabies' needs for over 9 years now. Staff are always friendly, and the veterinarians take a lot of care with the animals and spend time with you to talk through everything every single visit. Everyone there obviously loves pets and is happy to see my dog and kitties when we come in. They were exceptional when we had to put down our elderly girl a few years ago, very caring. Never had a surprise bill, never felt guilt-tripped into additional services (had both these issues with our previous vet!). I would highly recommend making them your vet of choice.

I took my kitten to Petroglyph for her vaccines and boosters. I had an excellent experience. After calling to notify them that I'd arrived they came to pick her up from my car, asked me if I had any questions for the vet and took her inside. The vet called me after the exam to let me know how she was doing and to decide which vaccines to get. After that I waited to receive another call and paid the bill over the phone, then I met an employee outside to pick her up and receive my invoice. Very pleasant staff and an overall great experience with very good social distancing precautions. I think the only issue I ever faced was the wait period after booking an appointment. I think I had to book two weeks ahead of time but that was not a problem and goes to show that they must be good at what they do if they are that busy!

I had my puppy's nails done a month-and-a-half ago for $25. I took her in last week and they charged me $38 for the same 10-minute procedure. When I expressed my view on the increased price in a week and a half the attendant was rather argumentative. I'll be using Nanaimo pet services in the future for any grooming. They charge $12 for the same clipping.

I'm not sure as how to rate them.... as in the past I've had excellent service. The Vets I've had have been very caring and kind and helpful. I also have many friends that take their animals here and have been very happy. So I was just crushed when I got Dr. Aleta Schmah.... My first impression of her was when she walked into the room after I was waiting in there probably 10 minutes and was petting my cat the whole time, so I didn't want hair flying around the room so I rolled the bit of hair up and was about to put it into the garbage when I heard her say " EWE DISGUSTING"..... yup from a Veternarian. Then I knew my cat probably had an eye infection which she did, but I also wanted to ask about her couple accidents in the house. Where she was just walking, then peed. Which is HIGHLY unusual for her. When I told her she kept REPEATEDLY telling me that my cat must be mad at me. I kept saying "NO" that it wasn't like her, that something was wrong. Finally after much persistence she said that IF I INSISTED, that she could take a urine sample. Which, I said thank you for. When she came back she said that it came back positive for a UTI which didn't surprise me. Then she said that there was blood in her urine as well, so they did a an ultrasound. ( Which I would gave gotten anyway, but it would have been nice if she asked if I'd like one done, as it's not cheap.) On the Ultrasound she had stones in her bladder from Crystal and mineral build-up. She gave me a couple options, one being diet and the second being Surgery but made the first option( the food option) seem like it wouldn't work and was a waste of time and kept calling it "boring". What is that supposed to mean??? And THEN you would still have to do follow up x rays and such. So then It made me think my only option was surgery. Which she then said that as this is normally in male cats that my cat( being a female) may be predisposed and after surgery this could still be an ongoing problem...... At that point, I said that I needed to go home and think on things. That was on Monday March 12th, all through the week I was discussing the situation with friends family and clients of mine. Thursday March 15th I made the decision to call in and make an appointment to my beautiful, kind, precious kitty down. As all I could think of was that I couldn't put her through multiple surgeries if she was predisposed and that was unkind, not to mention expensive. Thursday night I stayed in bed with my cat all night, didn't take the kids to their activities. Friday, I was so distraught I couldn't go to work, I went in balling my eyes out and explaining things to our receptionist. Saturday I made myself a shortened day because I was so depressed and distraught for my cat. Monday morning came..... I Got my friend to pick up my kids and I for moral support and so I wouldn't be a distracted driver on the road on the way back... I brought my cat in, as my kids and friend awaited in the sitting area. I was brought to a room where I'm sure they did all their euthanasia's. I tried to be strong all morning and to not cry, but as I was waiting I broke into tears as I held my beautiful cat in my arms and couldn't stop saying to her "I'm sorry, I'm so very sorry". Another vet walked in at that moment and asked why I was wanting to euthanize my cat. I told her and then she said that that was wrong, that the food DOES work. That I was a week out of 6 weeks done with the food. That they would COMPLETELY dissolve....... That just because she's a female DOES NOT mean she was predisposed.... That my cat would be fine.... After all of that.... All the heart ache, despair, distraught, depression....... My cat was going to live.... This vet was very kind and had a very gentle demeanor and I recognized her from previous services where I've had PUTSTANDING service. But unfortunately, I got someone else March 12th.... I would HIGHLY recommend NOT going to see DR. ALETA SCHMAH. Any other Vet has been great and I would recommend ANYONE ELSE.

In November I brought my 6 year old cat here to have a tooth removed, after surgery she couldn't breathe, wasn't eating or sleeping, they tried to tell me she had asthma. Two days later she had to be put down and then they tell me they made a mistake during surgery and over inflated the breathing tube and effectively killed my cat. They did what they could in terms of financial compensation to make up for it but I was in shock at the time and I could not properly process the situation. Now that I have had time to process this event, I am still very gravely affected by this. It was traumatizing and upsetting. My cat died after 48 hours of extreme pain with no relief. Please beware, this vet clinic has somebody working there who does not pay attention to important safety procedures and your animal may not survive a visit here. I want to put this out there as a warning to all pet owners.

I wish I could give 0 stars. This is the worst vet clinic I have ever been to in my life! They charged me $90 for an exam to tell me they can't find out anything with that exam and I would need to pay 300 more for blood work and 200 more for xrays. Don't go here unless you have lots of money to dish out for nothing... Places like this kick people when they're down during a pandemic when money is extra tight.... They say they waved the fee but actually I said I didn't want to pay for nothing! Why do I pay 90$ for an exam if they're going to ask for extra tests anyway the exam fee is a total rip Off! They could tell everyone they don't know and that they need more tests just for the extra money! Turns out my dog had pyometra and I managed to diagnose that myself when they could not... Something is wrong with that picture to me

Very disappointed in this office and the way it is run. My dogs original appointment was booked for Dec 16 which I had to book time off for, got an email the day before saying his appointment got cancelled due to the doctor going on leave all of a sudden, and his appointments did not get moved over but cancelled. I rebooked for Jan 2 (today). I got a call yesterday to “confirm” his appointment, was out of town working didn’t get back until 9pm.. so, I returned call this morning, and apparently his medical record wasn’t updated yet, and what the receptionist found from my dogs transfer papers on “Thursday” it said that his vaccinations were up to date when in fact they’re not and they said it was “difficult” to read his records? So what I’m getting from this is that no one had looked at my dogs file until last minute and even when the receptionist found delinquencies on Thursday she didn’t get ahold of the other vet to get clarification and I didn’t get informed yday through my vm. Nobody looked at his file even to prepare for his original apt Dec 16. I feel slightly neglected from this office, considering we’ve been waiting for over a month now. I don’t recommend this vet office and I will be speaking to my friends who have recommended us to come here.

The following review is my personal opinion. I called this clinic because I adopted a new puppy and wanted to get her checked up and also to get a rabies shot for her. I previously used to bring my now-ex-wife's dog to the clinic. The first person I spoke to said there would be no problem with signing me up. However, when I called back I was told the exact opposite: that this would constitute a new account and therefore they don't want to see me. I find this sort of customer service both unprofessional and unkind. For this reason, I don't recommend this clinic.

I recieved a card in the mail soon after my animal's passing that was signed by the staff on duty that day. The level of care, comfort, and love that the staff provides is top notch.

Just moved from out of province, my little furbaby was in pain. They saw me right away, were kind and understanding. They gave me options, we ended up doing surgery (when I was quoted the same surgery in Ontario it was a considerable amount more). Worried pet mommy here, called the office several times to see if how was healing was normal. Each and every time, I was told to bring him in and they checked him out at no cost! The staff is wonderful, kind, non judgmental, compassionate and most of all love all animals.

I brought our puppy there for his first and second shots. The second time I was not able to bring him on time, my husband brought our puppy. I met him there as soon as I was off work. Before I arrived the vet yelled in my husband's face while standing over him pointing her finger in his face accusing him of calling her a thief. He did not call her a thief. He stayed calm throughout this incident. I arrived after it happened. He let me know once we were home. I understand the importance of the vet caring for the animal's. But bedside manner for the pet parents is a necessity as well. The vet was very rude an disrespectful and condescending to my husband. I have since chosen another vet. I will not recommend this place to anyone. And also my puppy has not been the same since his last visit there. I did not feel comfortable or welcome both times I was there.

A staff member I believe was a dr. Was extremely rude to me and left me standing there after telling her how poorly my dog reacted to the medication.that I wanted to refund. When I asked if someone was still helping me she snapped and said she won't tolerate my rudeness. She's the one that left me standing there and I didn't know what was going on. I realized in a minute what had just happened ..I litteraly was in shock...this place used to be AMAZING. .. but it had done a 360 over the past year or less and I will never go back... have been going there probably 20 years and have spent over 5,000. Was extremely unprofessional the way she treated me and when I told her I had not been rude or disrespectful only she had just been... she said nothing and just stood there. Was creepy and weird.

I’ve been going to this place for over 15yrs, My Milo is 15 years old and he’s been going there since he was a puppy. I phoned this morning to get an appointment due to Milo being in severe pain and not eating or drinking and they tell me they can’t see him till next week and that they refuse to fill any medication over the phone, specially knowing what he needs every time this happens it’s that simple, very rude and not helpful, not right. These are our fur babies and they mean the world to us so I decided to phone another vet close by and they’re going to either have a appointment over the phone or bring them in at 11:30 so thankful for them, thank you Chase River veterinarian, you care ♥️

Been going to Petroglyph since 2015. Vets are good. Still good. But the front desk staff that were once efficient, professional have gotten so worse, I have no words. Lot of newbies, young girls lacking professionalism, basic customer service skills. Rude. Incompetent. Inefficient. Over booking clients. I drove 45mins for my fur baby's annual checkup & vaccination. I waited 30mins. Young girl comes & says, vet is over booked, can't do full annual exam, just vaccine, 100$ vet fees plus vaccine fees. I have to come back again for full checkup 100$ again. I said am not payin 100$ twice cuz you people overbooked, not to mention the trouble you're causing me, I will come back again anyway, they say I have to pay 25$ rebooking fees. I couldn't believe it. Nobody knows anything. Its like a group discussion at the reception. Each one telling me their view. Another young dark haired skinny girl, wish I remembered her name, would like to plaster it everywhere, she tells me you were 10mins late, so vet can't see you and you have to pay 25$ to rebook, its your fault, when am sitting there for 30mins. I said am not paying a penny for all of your incompetence, a whole bunch of front desk staff's incompetence. Moved my business elsewhere. Shame the vets are good but hiring inexperienced unqualified unprofessional front desk staff does impact business. Heard the same story from other pet parents. Quality of service at Petroglyph is headed downhill. I share my experience with anyone that listens. People need to know. The audacity to make me wait for 30mins, then ask 25$ fees, then blame me to my face, you got to be kidding...

Nice clinic and the vets are super friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend. The only unfortunate part is that you don't necessary see the same vet each visit like you would expect - you see whoever is there. I would like the consistency but would still recommend them.

My dog was just coughing but the receptionist let me cost $880 to do x-ray and some tests first before seeing doctor. When I said I would try other pet hospitals, she was really unhappy. We just cost $110 and my dog was cured when I went to VCA. We won't come here anymore.

We lost our Pug to cancer in May and Petroglyph treated him (and us) very well. We'do had an awful experience at another clinic initially, but after meeting Dr. Michaud things started to look up for our pup. Unfortunately, his cancer had advanced quickly and we had to let him go, but he had the best care at Petroglyph. They were amazing when his time came, too. Very kind, patient and caring.

I took my cat to Petroglyph about a month ago as he was vomiting and doing some strange gulping/licking behaviour he had never done before. He is an old cat and also has thyroid and renal issues. The vet did not address the gulping and did not even look in his mouth, instead was concerned that he was uncomfortable when his abdomin was palpated. She also wanted to do another thyroid and renal panel even though he had just had one done less than a month before. I couldn't afford this so she suggested an x-ray for his abdomen. Turns out it was just gas. Meanwhile, the weird gulping and licking has continued, and progressed to some gagging. Took him to our new vet in Sooke where I now live and he has a tumor in the back of his mouth. There's not much that can be done about it but it would've been nice to know earlier as he's clearly been uncomfortable this entire time. They made me feel like I was a bad pet owner because I told them I was limited by money. Meanwhile I spent $300 on nothing while my cat's issue was not addressed. It also seemed like if you are a vet you should be able to tell by palpitation what is just gas and what is a potential obstruction rather than talking a client into an expensive x-ray. Very angry with the lack of care from this clinic.

They should not be in business of dog euthanasia. Worst possible experience. Made decision to have dog put down which wasn't easy but he was old and having problems. Made appointment. They made me wait half hour while examining him another 15 minutes with vet explaining all that's wrong with him another 15 as by this time he is totally distressed and they have to sedate him.. all this as I sit in car alone because of covid. finally he is out of misery. Then they lose the remains. Not sure what would of happened if I hadn't phoned to check after a few weeks.

Service was passable for one of my animals which is why the review is not less. Appointment for my other animal cancelled (by them) less than 24 hours before appointment. Reason was they "wanted to delay it a week". Appointment had been booked for three weeks prior to them cancelling it. No apology given. Told to just "find someone else to bring them if you work" ... Will not be going back.

They are great at Petroglyph. They are reasonably priced and always helpful. My dog has been having a lot of issues for the last year and I appreciate the fact that my vet (Dr. Michaud) always has time for my questions and she doesn't make me feel ridiculous for asking them (which sometimes I do) . She is also quick to return my calls which I appreciate if I have concerns about my pet. The front desk staff is helpful, friendly and accommodating especially when I need to get in for an appointment at the last minute. Highly recommended.

The reception had several misteps with our communications and the vet was very impersonal - talking about things that didn't apply to my pet and making assumptions that didn't apply either. My anxious dog and I were also left waiting for over an hour in the tiny examination room, and we have always had to wait so much when we are there - well after our scheduled appointment - then the vet is mad that my dog is anxious and suggests I need therapy. He had been rescued from a burning building 3 days prior. EDIT: I have been there several times, and I can't believe you would ask me to compromise the wellness of my pet once again- as a response to the publication of this review. I of course expressed myself multiple times in person. It is very hurtful to go to someone for care and to really not be paid attention to - there are so many other vets in town that actually care about all pets and show it through the way they treat owners and animals

Not real happy. We’ve been going to this clinic for approximately four years and today was the first time I’ve been dissatisfied with the service. While I was at work today my dog hurt his paw so I checked out his paw And when I couldn’t find anything physically wrong (he is limping and won’t jump onor off our bed). I phoned the clinic to get some advice and also make an appointment. I was told that I couldn’t get advice without the vet seeing him, which is more than fair however when I asked to book an appointment they don’t have any this week and I’d have to phone at 8:30 tomorrow morning and see if they had a cancellation. As I explained to the receptionist I don’t have a phone because mine was left at work but she totally did not care. I am more than shocked at the lack of empathy or help I was given. I heard the clinic was under new management and I see it is not for the better if this is any indication. Very very disappointed and will ensure I tell my friends and family about the care I received today.

Hi all, yesterday I had an emergency with my dog. She had been under the care of another Vet here in Nanaimo and also a Neurologist in Vancouver. She took a serious turn for the worse and my regular vet was out of ideas. We took our beautiful little girl to Petroglyph out of desperation and they were absolutely amazing. They tried another treatment, they consulted with the Neurologist and while I still don't know if our little pup will make it, she was comfortable last night and we have hope. These people care about your loved one and are willing to try, you can't ask for more. I will provide an update if she makes it but regardless, this Veterinary clinic is top notch.
