I had to take my puppy in suddenly and the front staff were very kind and helpful with my dog. Dr. Mand made sure to do a thorough examination and reassured that everything would be ok. She clearly explained everything that was going on and gave me clear instructions on what to do when I took my puppy home. This place deserves 5 stars and is better than other vets I've gone to, you can really tell how much they care!

They don't really know dogs, the vet shied away from my 110 lb labradoodle even though he is an old mellow and loving dog. They might be good for your hamster or gerbil

I was on the island for the weekend and took my dog there for an emergency visit and Dr.Mand was so great she made sure to explain all treatment options for my dog and made sure he was comfortable as he is usually really anxious at the vet. Such a great clinic I would Come back for sure if I lived in the are!

What a wonderful vet that I recently discovered not long ago. Newer to the community, opening in March or May 2021 ?! Eek, I can't remember ???????? Wonderful front end staff and a ridiculously cute diabetic kitty friend ???? ❤ I appreciate you helping me out with vet specific food for my diabetic pup. Even though we aren't an actual client, you never turned me away or made me feel unwelcomed, Highly recommend checking them out, if your in need or an emergency comes up. Sometimes driving all the way north can be too long of a drive. Always nice having another central option on weekends ???? Had to add a silly pic if my boy lolol

When my mother brought our dog in to be looked at because she was favouring one of her legs the vet that saw her brought their opinion on dog sports, gear, and training into the situation when it was completely unneeded. My mother went there for our dogs health not training tips. I find this to be completely unprofessional and we will not be coming back.

This clinic took in my dog on short notice when she was very very sick and was caring and compassionate and effective at restoring her to health. They did necessary tests only and went above and beyond as a team to look after her and I in a very stressful moment. I would highly recommend them to anyone.

I left in tears.. The techs I think have to many tasks, they were very busy, however apologetic and trying to complete their tasks. It was tough to discuss anything with them as they were busy. The vet herself was horrible, she is a money grab, she has horrible bed side manner with no empathy and they are not upfront with their costs. My dog got his blood taken, their was miscommunication about the bill, and when I tried to discuss it with the vet and compromise, her exact words to me were, “well if budget is an issue we can just throw out the blood and do it later.” I paid the horrendous bill, with both my dogs still leaving with the same issues they came in with, and left in tears, I will never be back.

Was on holiday and needed emergency help with my cat, they fit me in on a Saturday and worked around my schedule of having to take a ferry from Gabriola. They were friendly and gave quick help to get my cat well. I was very happy with the service and thought the cost very reasonable. Nice and clean and new.

I can't rave about this clinic enough. Dr. Mand and staff accommodated my little kitty Rizzo in an emergency situation and showered him with adoration and care even though I know his addition to their time made it a stressful day. So much gratitude for them ???? Rizzo is recovering well from his surgery.

I would warn ANYONE going to this clinic, they are unprofessional, unclean, and very CHEAP. I would also say that they are NOT transparent with their prices. Make sure you hold the "doctors" accountable here, as I had a few costs on my bill they were not up front with. In the end I am so grateful my dogs surgery did not go through as I felt the vet was rough and not nice to my dog in my presence whatsoever. I felt very uncomfortable. And when I questioned the medications given (the antibiotics I spent $90 did not make my dogs infection go away) I was told there was a breakdown in relationship. So if you are a caring owner that asks questions.....be warned! I also was pushed to get blood work done I didn't feel was applicable to my dog, the "doctor" did not screening to even determine if my dog should get the thyroid blood test such as ask a series of questions to out rule/tell me it's beneficial to have it done. I was told it needed to get done, even though my dog doesn't have one symptom of thyroid issues/nor was I ASKED. Be warned of your dog in this office's care.

My first visit for a neuter consult they were late, and repeatedly asked for information I had already given. I was charged for a cone without consent that didn’t end up working for my pet. The neuter went smoothly. Location was clean and accessible for me, with convenient parking. Covid measures were clearly stated with good signage but not enforced.

I have worked for many many companies and employers in my time and none are as warm, giving, accommodating and friendly as these employers are. They truly care for their staff and clients. I took my cat in for a pre neuter appointment, which I thought was weird in the first place considering every other vet I’ve been to they were able to do the check up and neuter in the same day. While I was asking questions the doctor was rude and wouldn’t listen to what I was asking before cutting me off and interrupting. She ended up leaving mid question and I didn’t hear from her again. The rest of the staff was lovely but the doctor herself was a nightmare to try to work with. My cat was uncomfortable and scared the entire time, an overall traumatizing experience for him that in the end didn’t achieve anything. I will not be bringing him back for a neuter appointment here.

Brought my extremely anxious dog in as he had skin issues.The receptionist was friendly, efficient and very kind(forgot to get her name). The vet technician Melissa was very caring, patient and thorough with Jack.Dr. Mand is the vet Jack has been seeing and I cannot tell you how pleased I am with the care she has given Jack . She is knowledgeable, attends seminars to add to her knowledge base. Highly recommend this clinic. Forgot to mention that seniors are offered a discount. I have been to the clinic a few times since I moved to the Island and have found the clinic to be especially clean and the staff great.

I had the displeasure of working with Dr. Mand until I had enough and quit. I would not bring my own dog to this Hosptal.They lack compassion, and treat the animals.als as just a pay cheque. Line them up and ship them out. I won't go into too much detail, however I would strongly suggest if you do have to go there, ALWAYS get a second opinion. Don't just walk away and think absolutely everything was done to treat your pet.

Took our new pup in for his second round of shots and to address some concerns, left with a very bad experience. Organization was very poor, and had to give the exact same information to multiple people, zero information exchange between the reception and the vet. Vet did not inspire confidence, was constantly trying to leave in the middle of questions and never really provided an answer to any of the concerns presented. Left a stool sample, which was never mentioned again, and still don't know if it's even being processed. All in all, a very poor experience, will be getting a second opinion.

Had a emergency with puppy, (poisoned).....rushed to vets no one was open, I live in the hospital area, ran across the st. with pup, to Coastal, doors were still open, customer still in lobby, I said I have a emergency, told they we're closed, told me to take my puppy to Central Island vets, I said where's that, person working said by the mall, I said WHAT MALL.......ran down to Central Island, they grabbed him from me right away and started working on him, not a good impression to give a person, when they just opened not to long ago. Our little pup Teddy has made a recover, thanks to going to Central Island vets, and made it on time, it was a grave situation at the time.

This was my first visit to this vet clinic. The receptionist, technician, and veterinarian that I met with were extremely professional and caring with our cat Hugo. Considering the challenging issues related to Covid, the doctor and staff still managed to create a caring environment while following health and safety protocols diligently! I am delighted to have found such a caring team to look after my Hugo during his recent health issue.

We see Dr. Mand with our dog. She is consistently thorough, knowledgeable & honest. She takes the time to answer my (many) questions. Our dog recently had her spay there & every staff member we encountered was clearly invested in their job & the animals in their care. The after care for our dog was thorough & compassionate to her needs. Clinic is always very clean & staff are diligent about making sure the exam room has been sanitized between patients. Sometimes there is a slight delay at appointments due to the coming & going of clients & the need to have only 1 'fur family' in the lobby at a time. At this point in the pandemic we should all be accustomed to waiting our turn to use a small space. We had one small issue of accidental double billing for our dog's microchip. I called the clinic & they apologized & asked how I would like to be reimbursed. Mistakes happen, it's how we handle them that counts & Coastal City Animal Hospital handled this mistake perfectly. Overall, this clinic, Dr. Mand & the staff are fantastic. Absolutely worth the looong drive to Nanaimo!

After waking up to an unhappy, drooly cat, I called Coastal City Animal Hospital to see if they could get me in to see a Vet. Being that it was the Sunday of Easter weekend, I didn't have my hopes up. I was told there was no Vet in, but if I felt it was needed, one would come in to take a look at my cat. 45 minutes later, my cat was being attended to by Dr. J Mand, who was kind, caring, compassionate and friendly. I thanked her for coming in on such short notice, to which she replied "It's no problem at all, it's my duty." After some blood work, examination and fluids, I was given an in depth explanation of what's going on, prescribed some meds for the kitty and went to go pay. It cost approximately 2/3rds of what I was expecting which was also a pleasant surprise. We will be bringing our 3 cats here for any issues in the future, without question.

Clinic vet was very compassionate with our dog but dropped the ball in the long run with service. Our dog had to go for surgery and we were told to have blood work done beforehand as it would save us money. After blood work was done we asked if we had to do anything else and were told no and the clinic asked where the surgery was being performed. When we paid our surgery bill we had paid for blood work because the blood work taken at this clinic was never sent to the surgery clinic. When we inquired why this was not sent we were told that the clinic never sends blood work out. Why are you charging for services you are not delivering on? In the long run we did not receive a refund as the clinic took no responsibility for the error. Buyer beware.
