They are awesome with pets there. They don't try to up-sell medical procedure that aren't needed. They just care about helping you and your pet. Can't imagine a better experience. *Update* When I first attended Chase River I had an aging kitty with an old man's list of issues including failing kidneys and thyroid issues. My Gavin was 18 when they started his care and with their amazing help he lived to be just over 20 years old. Gav had regular meds and bi-weekly treatments of fluid for his kidneys. They were great at helping find ways to ease the increased costs of his ongoing treatment and always had time for us. When the time came Dr. Norman and the whole staff were so compassionate. I brought Gavin in on fairly short notice and they let me have a room with him for nearly 90 minutes overall. Dr. Norman spent a lot of time with me and even cried with me as he passed in my arms. I have since brought my new kitten Tucker in to meet Dr. Norman and get his needed shots and check up. It was like a little reunion when we arrived and I was able to share some of my after care experience around Gavin's passing and show off my amazing new kitten. Vets and their staff are human just like the rest of us but I have never experienced anything but the best from this clinic. It's no wonder they have a full caseload and can't often take on new pets. If you can get in to this clinic go for it! Your pets can't find better care anywhere else!

Very happy with the staff! They recognized our pets (and were even happy to see them!) and did a bang up job of taking care of them. Pro tip; if you have a restricted budget, tell them, and they'll work around it. The lobby can get a little noisy with all the pets, so if yours is nervous or aggressive around other cats and dogs, come prepared with a crate or muzzle. They see a lot of patients so there's only so much they can do! Free treats for your critters on the counter though.

I took my dog Kiko an Australian Blue Healer in for Euthanasia. She was so stricken with arthritis that it reached the point where she couldn't get up on her own. She was 14, totally deaf, going blind and riddled with lumps under her skin which I suspect was the onset of cancer. It was obvious Kiko was in so much pain. Dr Junko Sakai commented right away after she saw her that I was doing the right thing. She then told us (my girlfriend was with me) how Kiko was to be euthanized by first being administered a sedative to calm her and then when we were ready she would inject the final lethal dose. Dr. Sakai was so professional and sweet through the whole process. It was obvious she was in her right profession. We were given plenty of time to be alone with Kiko to say our final good byes and then Dr. Sakai came back and asked if we were ready for the final stage. We said we were. Dr. Sakai was very gentle stroking Kiko a few moments before she administered the final dose. I can't say enough about how well we were treated at such an emotional time. Thank you so much Dr. Sakai and Chase River Veterinary Hospital. One final note I must add is they were also the most reasonable in price for their services. I highly recommend this hospital and Dr. Sakai

Chase River has been with us through some hard times with our pets, and have always treated us with respect and compassion. Though I have some bad memories associated with the office, it's obviously in no way their fault. They have excellent staff, knowledgeable vets, and a great variety of procedures and options available for your pets. They did everything they could to save my dog's life, and have been incredible in caring for my diabetic cat. I've tried a lot of different vets since coming to the island, and Chase River is far and away the best I've dealt with. I wholeheartedly recommend them to everyone I know.

We bring our dog and cat to the vets at this animal hospital and they’ve all been so great, particularly Dr. Sakai & Dr. Halverson who have seen our pets through emergencies and aging and regular vaccinations. I love that they are open on Saturdays! This animal hospital is also wheelchair accessible- there is level entry with a short incline to the door, a single accessible parking space next to the door and level access throughout the waiting room and treatment rooms. There is no power door opener on the main entry but it is direct view of the front desk where there are several staff who jump up to help. The front counter is a bit too high for an average wheelchair user but they do come around the counter if needed. Staff have helped me out to the car when needed.

They're excellent with the animals, friendly with the owners and are always ready to answer questions if they can or to find out the answers if they can't. They are going out of their way to adapt and have things run as smoothly as possible during the pandemic and I can't thank them enough.

R.I.P. Cocoa September 11,2020 at 2:30 P.M. We lost our 13 year old son (dog) to a sudden heart attack. We are heartbroken . Nothing we could have done to save his life . Rushed him to the hospital but it was his time. On that note it was scarey driving south about 15 minutes to the vets that we have been going to for the last 7 weeks every week for our other dog that broke his leg . When we were just a block away we had the sense to call the Chase River clinic and told them we were a block away coming in with cocoa as we think he had a heart attack. The receptionist asked if we had an appointment. My husband said no Our dog is dying and we need help NOW . She said sorry we are booked . "You will need to take him to the emergency clinic on Metral drive". So now we make a turn to go North Cocoa is still breathing but barely. I say lets just go to the other vets down the road . Don't call them just go. So we did . We fly into the parking lot and there is a receptionist outside . I ran to her and told her what happened and she took Cocoa without a second thought. She raced him in and they quickly examined him. He went into another arrest right in front of the Doctor so this was his time. Doctor had us come into the building and we had to say our goodbyes right there and then. This was sudden and I am still in shock. I will be contacting the Chase River Clinic and I will make a formal complaint. I hope no one ever experiences that kind of service . Petroglyph VET Update I contacted management and I have no doubt that this is not the norm. Everyone and every business is different than it used to be . New challenges for us all. Thank You for you love and compasion.

The vet and staff are very friendly but they are very heavy handed at reception about having you sign on to Trupanion pet insurance. They only have signs for this company throughout the office. It certainly appears they are getting kickback from the insurance company on sales. If it doesn't stop we may need to change our vet. Update: We have been back a few times and nobody has mentioned Trupanion insurance. May have been an overzealous employee. Still love this place.

My dog got taken in regularly to have his anal glands drained. One of the vets was rough with my dog, even after we had asked him to be more careful. When we got home we realized he had popped my dogs anal glands. My dog was very sick and in a lot of pain for three days. Chase River were not at all apologetic and did not even care that they had hurt my dog. They also prescribed antibiotics for everything without even checking my dog over or doing tests first. Literally any other vet clinic is better than these guys.

Dr. Cantasio was/is fantastic. My doggo had a prolonged illness and she was there the whole way. She and her staff called to check on my doggo repeatedly. Its the kindness you'd expect but not often get. I witnessed her activilly working through the difficulty of treating a working Tibetan Mastiff. I am so rewarded by giving her a chance to continue to treat my baby bear. My dogge is no angel and is big and baddass. The staff always treats her with respect. They have clear protocols which help keep other patients safe and calm without making a big deal about it. When you go a couple times a week for 4 weeks or so...it really prompted me to write. In particular this vet (all have been great) but she pushed through some barriers and never gave up on finding a solution.

I have had wonderful experience with most of the doctors here. Dr. Nichols was by far the best vet I have gone to with my dog and I will be sad to see her go. Dr. Halverson helped my cat when he got hit by a car and she had the most care and compassion. However, I do not like Dr. Sakai she offers very little information and just suggests we do a bunch of tests and surgery before offering less expensive options. I took my dog in because he was very itchy, after the appointment I had to ask if there was a shampoo to try because I didn't want to take blood tests and allergy tests first, the shampoo worked well. I would prefer to not see her again. Overall though I will stay at this location for all my animal needs

Chase River is the best vet hospital I've ever dealt with. They've been taking care of our dog since we brought her home at 7 weeks old and have been nothing but kind, caring and helpful. I have called them a few times now in a panic over something and every time they've been reassuring and accommodating in getting us in for urgent issues. They also spayed our dog and were wonderful in caring for her, following up after she came home and making sure she was doing well. I won't take our dog anywhere else.

Everyone was friendly where ever I went but what made Chase River stand out was there was absolutely no up selling of unnecessary tests or wellness plans or special diets. I am not the kind to write negative reviews. I actually think this might be my first ever. I chose to take my senior cat with allergies to chase river vet because I had only heard good things about it. Months later, I am extremely disappointed. My roommate and I adopted our cat Spooky from the SPCA last October. He was 11 years old at the time and we were informed about his allergies. When he had his first allergic reaction, we went to chase river and they were very nice and we saw a wonderful vet who gave us all we needed to clear his skin and ear infection. Then he had a really bad reaction in August, so back to the vet we went. Now, up until the last two visits, they never scheduled us with the same vet twice. Each time we brought Spooky in, we saw someone who wasn't familiar with him, and one of the vets actually recommended us food that Spooky was allergic to! My poor cat has had a cone on for 3 months. He is still sick. He has now had two different rounds of steroids (neither of which worked. Even when we told the vet they didn't work the first time she said we should still do it), Three different rounds of antibiotics, and we switched his food to an extremely expensive food that they recommended, which had ingredients he is allergic to. My roommate and I are both full time students and do not have a lot of extra expendable income, but we will ALWAYS put our cat first and bring him to the vet whenever needed. Chase river however seemed insensitive to that fact. Finally they suggested a skin biopsy, and also a blood test to test for feline HIV and feline Leukemia. They quoted me at $610 for the biopsy, and $200 for the blood test. They also suggested that we go see a veterinary dermatologist where just the consultation was going to be $150. I knew that is something that we had to do so my roommate and I decided we should start saving up for the $800 worth of tests. Then after his last round of antibiotics left him with an extremely upset stomach and STILL didn't get rid of his infection and scabs, I decided to take him to Petroglyph. By this time, spooky had been puking almost every day for two weeks from the antibiotics. Petroglyph gave me more information and help in ONE vet visit then chase river did in almost a year. At our visit there, we did the biopsy. When I asked about the blood test, she said that it was unnecessary as the biopsy would also test for feline HIV and Leukimia. At the end of the visit, it was almost $400 less than Chase river quoted me. When I picked up Spooky, I cried because I was so so so relieved that something was FINALLY being done for my wonderful, kind, loving cat. If I had known it didn't have to be $800, then I would have gotten the biopsy done a month ago as I had the money then, and we would already have answers. The staff at chase river were very friendly, and two of the vets that we saw were kind, but I cannot forgive the agony that they let my cat be in over the past few months. How is it that the vet at Petroglyph gave me so many answers and solutions after one visit, and chase river seemed like they just guessed at every time, and always came up short? Why, for the exact same procedure did they quote me so much more money then Petroglyph? Why did they want to perform an apparently useless blood test with the biopsy? All to make money, or so it seems. We are all human and we all make mistakes, but how could they let my cat go so hurt for so long? There are a lot of rave reviews for this place and i'm very happy for all the animals and their owners that had a positive experience here. Maybe we were the one mistake that they made and they let us fall through the cracks. At the end of the day, they were supposed to help my amazing cat who can't speak for himself, and they didn't. I hope Chase River, that you can grow from this and not let any more people and their animals fall through the cracks. I'm sure Spooky will forgive you as he is the kindest cat I have ever had the pleasure to know, but i'm just not sure that I can.

I've brought my dog here several times but have decided to leave because the customer service is, to summarize in a single word, surly. Most vet offices have warm, animal--loving front line staff. But every time I come in here, I feel like my pet is an annoyance and I'm bothering the front staff with my business. I decided to leave after my most visit where the other customers in the waiting room were both treated unprofessionally and rudely by the staff because they asked what the diagnosis was for their pets and asked to clarify the treatment plans with the vet. The customers' requests did not seem unreasonable and it was awkward just sitting in the waiting room witnessing the staff's reactions. If I'm ever spending thousands of dollars on a vet bill or asked to place my pet on an extended course of antibiotics, I would expect to know at least the diagnosis!

I have had nothing but positive experiences here with multiple pets. I have always seen Dr. Rogers, and she is amazingly kind, patient, and caring. One of my cats (Charlie) has severe skin allergies, and she always takes the time to investigate what is going on, and works with the dermatologist specialist that my cat sees. Dr. Rogers often calls just to check up on Charlie and see how she is doing, and if there is any further care that needs to be done to alleviate any of Charlie's skin conditions. She knows the backstory of my pets, and how they interact with each other, and takes that into account for treatment, which is something no vet has ever done for me. With Dr. Roger's help, Charlie is doing great! I trust her with all of my pets, and wouldn't consider going elsewhere. I also find the staff to be very nice and helpful, which is appreciated!

They took her in right away and within a few minutes she was fine. we have brought our little fur baby there foe a number on years and have always been very happy with how they have treated us and our family. we feel that they went way over the top today.

Really had a great experience with this vet. Took my dog as he was having chronic congestion and nose bleeds, and Dr. Sakai was terrific. Front staff are friendly and helpful as well. I had to take him 4 or 5 times for various tests and eventually a scope. When I called them a day before the scope with a few questions, Dr. Sakai was on her day off, but they called her at home and she contacted me anyway. I didn't even ask for her to. My only criticisms are fairly minor, I had arranged (I thought) to bring him in for some blood to be taken for a series of tests, but it turned out they only took enough blood for one of the tests causing me to have to go back, and I'm from quite a distance away. I chalk this up to an honest miscommunication. Once the diagnosis was in, they had to write a few prescriptions for some medication, and even though I'd spent nearly $2000 dollars so far, they charged me about $30 to do so, which I thought was a little nickel and dime. A few other small positive things, because I come in from quite a distance, I would often arrive early, and they almost always took us in right away, and when I took him to another vet for a second opinion once the $1500 scope was recommended, they were quite happy and pleasant it sending all his info to the other vet. Highly recommended.

I am so thankful for the good care Dr. Junko Sakai gave to my Siamese cat, Oliver. I brought him in the first time for a laceration on his leg. She did such a great job. He healed well. The reason I started going to chase River animal hospital is his doctor Ian Lori was the one that opened it after working at the Island hospital on Thorne road and I really liked him now I think he just the owner cuz I've never actually seen him there the vets are very knowledgeable but the only problem I have is they should double check with people whether they want to spend more or less on medications because sending someone home with medications that cost a triple or four times as much as they could when they could just send home the medications human version which is the exact same thing that was my only problem because I don't even though it makes it a lot easier to give it to the dog when it's in a treat form I could also just put the pill inside a treat which would help me out financially by not costing four times more just for having a compounding pharmacy make it up and so if they could just maybe check with people before doing that that would be awesome for their wallet and for just everything other than that they've been nice.

We've been with Chase River since January 2019 and entrusted them with the care of our Welsh. They are professional and very much on top of things. Recently our wonderful dog developed significant issues and we were faced with the fact that the end was near. Trying to find the right balance between good and bad days in order to make the best decision for the canine member of your family is so very, very hard, but the front desk staff at Chase River were very thoughtful and supportive. Each time I called, they let me know that there was no rush and that if he was having a good day, it was okay to call and cancel the appointment. I can't tell you how much pressure this took off of us and allowed us to have the time to say goodbye. When the day came when Donny told us it was time for him to go, they made a difficult day a bit easier. Dr. Lawrie...I've encountered a lot of vets in my life and you by far handled a difficult and emotional situation very well. Your compassion and your willingness to ensure that the right decision was being made, was and is so very much appreciated. You didn't know Donny all that well, but your kindness to him on that morning was wonderful and it was clear that he trusted you as did we. And..thank you for sharing the perspective that it takes strength to know when to say goodbye to a beloved companion and that this is our commitment to them when we bring them into our lives...those words have helped a lot over the last week and are very wise words indeed.

The vetinarians are awesome if you can get past the ridiculous staff who answers the phones. I called with my dog in distress. Breathing issues. Couldn't eat or drink and got told my vet was booked up for 3 weeks. I explained it was an emergency. They said sorry. Vet is booked. I had to go to emergency then called again but got told sorry too busy to see my dog. went to petroglyphs who took me moments notice for another look. Petroglyphs helped me the next day put my dog out of her misery. She was suffering. Then got a call for condolences ???? from Chase river. Really?

charged me 52 dollars for 2 dogs nail trimmed. didnt tell me price prior. beforehand I had shots and nail trimmings done , I was charged 24.50. I was under the assumption that was the price. to ream me out online afterwards because I misunderstood is pretty professional. I found front staff was friendly until i had a few concerns. A 5 minute exam costs 75 dollars. Extremly high. I also found the vet was pushing needless,expensive medication and when i had doubts they wànted me to back in the exam room.so they could upsell me. She used the line that she was only speaking for my dog. I strongly felt she was more interested in a big bill and trying to make me feel guilty . Will not go back

I brought my ferret here for the first time a few weeks ago; Dr. Lawrie was recommended by a friend. Although it turned out she was terminal due to a heart tumour, he gently guided the entire situation with professionalism and compassion and he made the decision to put her down (which was the right one) a lot easier to make. He was honest with me about her prognosis and chances, and did not try to push any unnecessary tests. The staff were also very helpful and friendly, even though I could barely see and speak due to profuse crying. I would recommend this clinic highly to anyone, especially ferret owners. When I get another ferret, she will be visiting Dr. Lawrie from day one

Dr. Lawrie is a great veterinarian. Very affectionate with animals. He treated my 4 month old 31/2 lb. Yorkie right hind leg which she broke when she fell 10 ft. Off our deck and onto a big rock below. Lucky she survived and ended just breaking her leg. Dr. Lawrie even put a daisy on her cast :) My Daisy Yorkie loves him and all his staff which are also very nice.
