I've been taking my dog's and cats to Callander Animal Hospital for over 23 year's and wouldn't take them anywhere else, Dr. Neil is great, always willing to answer questions and concerns, my little guy was there for his annual check up, he turned 12 this summer and is doing great, Dr. Neil has taken care of him since his first visit to the clinic. For anyone looking for a vet for their furry friends I would most definitely recommend a visit

Honestly, if I ever had to move it would be such a difficult decision because of this place alone. They are amazing. They treat my dog like family and I know when I drop him off for his appointments he is safe and well taken care of. A couple weeks ago I had to get tick meds and I ended up mixing up the time they closed. I called when I got there and it was 2 minutes to closing. The ladies there were so wonderful, knew who my dog and I were and helped me out... even though they had been ready to walk out the door. Amazing amazing people. They make me feel heard and they care to tell me every important detail with a smile on their face. I don’t go there feeling like an inconvenience... I come there feeling super welcomed and like my dog and I are part of the family. They truly are a great team. Dr. Neil is my dogs doctor and he is very nice and extremely knowledgeable. I 10/10 recommend this place!

I can't say enough about the care of the vets at Callander! I have rarely NEEDED them but when I have, I've had the most exceptional service. I live in a remote community where Callander comes once a year and I am eternally thankful for that. I've been able to call and ask advice, get meds and some of the best care possible. Recently have needed care for my injured dog that I did not want to fly out of my community. With Dr. Neil's help, I was able to get my big fella back on the mend. I appreciate the care given when I made repeated frantic calls. They calmed me and provided advice and prescribed meds that I believe, quite honestly saved my furry baby's life. Every time they come to my community, my boys want to go to the vet clinic. They learn fantastic things from the vets as they take care of not only my four legged babies but also my 2 legged ones too. If one of my kids become a vet, it would be because of the influence of Callander.

Our pets our such a huge part of our families so I just wanted to share what an amazing experience I’ve had with the Callandar Animal Clinic. Our dog Remington has just undergone his 2nd surgery this week (the second being a complete surprise today). The thoughtfulness, kindness & professionalisms from all the staff and both of the vets that I have dealt with has been second to none. Hands down if you’re looking for a vet clinic I would recommend them without a doubt. Kindness goes along away, and I’m so thankful Remington was in such good hands this week.

While we were vacationing in the area our dog tore his dewclaw. Working at a clinic myself, I know the importance of finding a clinic you can trust, especially during these strange times when we can't accompany our pets inside. Callander AH accepted us and saw us within a couple hours that same day. They treated our baby as if he was a regular patient of theirs and provided excellent care! We will definitely be going to see them when we move to the area!

We are not a client of the callander animal hospital, but did have to leave our dog Charlie there for a few days over the Christmas holidays. Dr. Neil went above and beyond for Charlie and we are extremely appreciative of everything him and his staff did to ensure Charlie would be healthy and be able to come back home. It was a hard experience for us but Dr. Neil brought us a lot of comfort over the holidays knowing Charlie would be in good hands. Although the experience was short with their office, we 100% recommend.

Had a traumatizing experience in person and on the phone and will never go back there. The receptionist kept passing me around to different people...felt like a hot potato. I usually go with house call service with Dr. Cole. But never again will I step foot in that place. The people were unfriendly and bossy. The lady got mad at me for swearing in general and instead of fixing my problem...she told me she was going to put on my file that I swore. The most horrible service I have ever had. Why do they need 2 receptionists??... is one the swear police???

We were driving past the Callander Vetrinary Clinic on a Sunday with a Westie that had an irritated nail on his paw. We had no idea what to do with our poor dog who was in such discomfort so in a moment of desperation knocked on the clinic door, it was answered by Dr Neil. He came to the vehicle and took a look at our dog went back to the clinic and returned with salve and dressed the wound. Dr Neil gave us some advice on next steps and refused to take any money for his service as “It was Sunday and the system was down”. A few things.....firstly Watson (our westie) is recovered based on Dr Neil’s advise and treatment for that thank you. The most important part of this experience to me is that in this day and age compassion and concern still exist. I’m so glad our daughter was here to see and experience this. Had an appointment for 8:45... didn't get in until about 9:10. Went in the examine room and there was no paper on their exam table.. unsanitary. Brought my cat in for her crystals and had my own pee sample for her... and the vet insisted on getting his own sample and told Me that it wouldn't be no extra cost to me.. he tells me that he's gonna call me on Monday with the results.. nothing to help my cat now. We go to pay and they charged me 60 dollars for the urinalysis plus 22 for the courier fee after he told me there was no extra cost. Lied to me from the beginning. I then insisted for a refund because that was crazy and to give me my pee sample back. The receptionist was rude and told my mom to leave. The vet came out and started calling us Liars... how are we liars I don't understand.. then they refunded me the 60 plus 22 but instead of a refund they charged me again.. didn't realize until I was in my car and checked my bank account. I go back in to get the refund again and they didn't think I would catch on that they had to refund me twice... the girl at the desk responds with "oh yeah that's right". I will never go there again! Tried to charge me 162 and then another 92... they were supposed to refund me 92. Everyone in that place is rude and they told us to leave and never come back. No problem! That place should be ashamed. Money hungry. It's not about the animals it is about money now a days.

I’d like to give your clinic a shout-out as we had to use the emergency service for our dog, Luna, last night. The Dr was extremely helpful at reassuring us and calming our fears about the experience Luna had. He calmly gave me a very thorough and comprehensive report about the issue she was having over the telephone and provided excellent guidance and recommendations for care into the night and what to do first thing in the morning. The best vet ever. My big dog got hit by a truck and it darn near severed her bicep. Rushed her in on what might have been their busiest day ever- many, many, many stitches, a very moderate bill and a month later- not even a limp. Plus he called a few days later just to see how she was. Because he cared. All the staff are wonderful. Your animal friends will thank you. ( they don't do goats, sadly. )

Loved them until I went to bring my dog to get help with his allergies and got judged on the fact that he had a prong collar on. Went home and my dog was getting worse. I called back and they wanted to charge me ANOTHER 40$ after I just spent 100$ and never got any answers and got judged. I went in and seen Dr Ron. Instead of apologizing for the way I was treated before, he read over what I had talked about with the previous dr I seen and said everything she did was perfect (never gave me any meds for him and told me to just give him over the counter meds which didn't work) and then while raising his voice at me he told me " You either pay 40$ for this visit OR you'll get a refund and never come back here again" while he's saying this he opens the door and says "GO". They don't care about their clients and I will never recommend anyone to go there again.

Not sure what the reviewers from 2 years ago experienced, but here is the latest: spotless reception and clinic rooms, courteous, friendly, sympathetic and helpful staff. (Could it be if the receptionist was "rude" in the past, she had just spent a day helping owners of sick or wounded pets, and maybe saw some die?). I have a 13 year old Jack Russell Terrier recently diagnosed with hemangiosarcoma, an eventually fatal cancer. Dr Schweitzer consulted with us honestly, explaining all the options from euthanasia, operations, chemo, amputation....he patiently made sure we had all the information to make an objective decision, always with Zeke's best interest in mind. The operation was a success, Zeke recovered quickly, and we are now monitoring him for further symptoms. Big city vets try to push expensive meds and treatments that research tells me aren't any more effective than placebos. This clinic gives first rate treatment, with access to more complicated procedures if needed, and will tell you bathing a wound in tea is as effective for cleaning as expensive meds and is non toxic...We will have a difficult journey ahead with Zeke, but we are in great hands with "Dr Ron".

I spent 6 weeks and several hundreds of dollars trying to get my cat, Koko, taken care of for an upper respiratory infection. On September 17 Koko was treated by Dr Neil and prescribed antibiotics for the infection. The antibiotics made him vomit. So I called the office and got another prescription for The antibiotic, Orbax, which worked, but only got 11 pills. Not enough to completely cure him. Called again to get more pills and was advised they had no more in stock. I was given a different antibiotic, in pill form, which made his mouth bleed. Called the office again and was given the same medication in liquid form, which made his mouth bleed within seconds. The next time I called saying the medication made his mouth bleed, I had to bring Koko back in and he was seen by Dr Nancy. She advised me he had no infection, even though she did not check his nostrils for mucous or check his lungs. Meanwhile Koko was getting sicker and his breathing was laboured and I could hear the mucous rattling in his nose. So I did some research and found a drug company in Ontario that would send me Orbax, as long as they received a prescription from a vet. I wrote a letter to Dr. Neil and hand delivered it to his office asking him to please fax the prescription for me. I got no reply to the letter or my phone calls until today when I received a registered letter advising me to find another vet for my cats. They didn't even have the curtesy to sign it or thank me for 16 years of being a customer. Dr Ron was incredible and this would never have happened if he was still in charge. Not only that, but they blocked my email address so I could not write a review, so I used my sisters email. So if you want your pet taken care of do not go to the Callander Animal Hospital

Awesome place to bring your animals. These people really care for your pets and you. My parents have been using this place for years and I have been bringing my cat and dog here for four years now. They had one vet in training that wasn't up to par a couple years ago but he moved on quickly and all the staff there now are amazing and very honest. Even though animal care can be expensive, here they will lay out all your options and work with you to provide the best care possible without overcharging. Highly recommend bringing your pets here.

I have used thwm for 6 of my 8 years in town and will always use Dr. Neil. I have a King Shepard who at a year old got colitis we tried antibiotics and probiotics did fecal test. Eventually we narrowed it down to him becoming allergic to chicken switched him to a holistic food with no chicken and he is great now. Dr. Neil explained everything gave us options never tried to push for expensive treatments and even prescribed a cheaper antibiotic. I have tried other vets in North Bay and always they tried to push for expensive treatments and pointless ones.

The staff here does not seem to have any compassion for animals and are only interested in money. In the spring I inquired about having stitches removed from my dog and was told over the phone there would be no charge. I had the procedure done and later that day I received a bill via email for $45. Money is not the issue it was the lie told to me to get the money. Called today (Oct.04/21) at 3:36 PM with an emergency for my dog and was told they would not take me and I would have to call the emergency on call location. This is ridiculous and seems like they only care about money with no concern for animals well being. Shameful of this location to force larger bills on people.
