Very caring, understanding staff. My cat was severely beaten up by a Tom, they spent lots of time caring for him, and me. Followed up after each Appointment. Really good vet!
Awesome Care and Price's
Great and friendly service.
I felt like I was at a mechanic shop where they speak to you like you won't know anything so they can screw you over!! My dog ingested a poison in the park. They told me around $250-300 to do a blood screen and urine sample, which I happily agreed to. 20 minutes later I've got a $1500 bill in front of me! Every conversation with the vet was doom and gloom just to string you along into thinking you need them to do more to your pet. Every single time I spoke to anyone all I could think to myself was that these guys are screwing me over big time! I can't believe no one there feels guilty soaking people the way they do. After this experience I cannot believe the number of people I've spoken to with similar stories about this place. Ridiculous prices! I WOULD NEVER GO HERE AGAIN! If you have an emergency need go anywhere else!
I've had to take a pet here a couple times, first time was several years ago - my cat had eaten a roommate's houseplant and was vomiting like clockwork. Took her in and the fellow who examined and treated her was rude and extremely dismissive. Immediately after paying my bill he told me if it's what I thought it was, she'd be dead soon. No offer for looking after her overnight, didn't bother to run a panel as it'd "been too long". For fluids an exam and oral sludge I paid over 500. Second time was Christmas eve, our usual vet closed early, no other clinic I called was taking emergency exams - so we ended up here. The professionalism and customer service were like night and day. Our cat had a urinary blockage and was admitted for three days, they called me every day to tell me how he was doing. When I asked what they recommended I do for them I was simply told that they needed to lose weight. I ended up doing several hours of research on urinary problems in felines; it's less simple than that. When we got him back there were some jokes fondly made about our big boy, so I like to think he had some quality time with the staff. He came with his back end covered in oily feces (they advertise pet grooming, also could easily give him a UTI), which I wish they would have mentioned on any of the calls - I would have brought some of his nibbles to blend into their food. We were given three medications, one to relax his urethra, a sedative, and a pain medication that was partly solidified. Strangely enough we were not given anything to help with the crystals in his urine - guess who's peeing blood? Truly shocking that what I was led to believe was the underlying cause of his blockage was left untreated. Another gripe is that I was asked about resuscitation - of course I want my boy back, so I said yes, in the paperwork it said the cost which was around 300, and that there was a 5% chance of survival, neither were mentioned. There's also a clause about animal disposal in their contracts if you're unable to make a full payment within 5 days. We waited a long time after we arrived to pick him up in spite of notifying the vet that we would be in around 10 as my spouse needed to work. After paying around 2300 a lady dropped off some food, which turned out not to be on the bill I paid. So we spend another 125 on that, the kibble turned out to be mostly filler, and the company who produced it is in a class action lawsuit for false advertising - there are no medicated prescription diets for pets. If your cat has a urinary blockage green acres high estimate is 1300, low is 1100. I usually go to Taber where including exam fees and medication Spooky's treatments for crystals in the past have cost around 300. Much better than 2500.
The staff there is great and helpful with all your pet needs
Dr.Kate was great with my cat! Brought her in through a difficult labor and was very good at helping me in an affordable way as I am a student! My kitty and her little jelly beans are doing great thanks to Dr. Kate!
My 18 year old cat hasn't needed a Vet for years, but when she needed immediate help, I was able to get an appointment the same evening. The receptionist was very helpful and polite. Dr Thomas was wonderful, patient with my many questions, generous, explained everything simply and genuinely cared. The outcome for my old girl isn't great, but Dr Thomas was compassionate and sympathetic. I have no hesitation in recommending this Vetinary Practice.
I never go here agan
I recently had my first experience here, and I was very impressed! They were very accommodating with regard to my pet emergency. Everyone that I spoke to was incredibly kind and caring, and the veterinarian took the time to explain the situation and ensure I was aware of what was going on. Also, their safety procedures with regard to Covid were impressive and aligned with public health guidelines. The rates for services also seem quite reasonable.
After an intense week last week and being overcharged and under-cared for by everyone except one of the workers ( Victoria) and one of the Vets (Alvarez) I have to say I will only be reccomending this place in the result of an emergency where you can't go anywhere else. I received my health examination fee back after publically sharing my experiences being : I came in with a rash on my dog by appointment and spent an hour waiting for the vet while other emergencies were dealt with. I was falsely told it was biospyed and told it was definately characteristic of Cushings. I was quoted for 500$ of urine and blood tests and 270$ for a dexomethasone test. I did research and wondered why they couldnt test the unstressed urine they pull from his bladder on the initial tests. The dex test has a bad reputation for false positives. After the initail tests were done I took him home and couldn't talk to anyone because everyone was busy. I was charged an extra 85$ above my quote for a health examination fee aswell. I waited for a call, around 3 hours later I called asking for results and the vet was tracked down and told me his kidneys are fine but the other results point to cushings . I went forward with the Dex test the next morning because I was told it would differentiate as to if the discrepancy is in his Adrenal gland or his Pituitary gland. I was told upon drop off that I would get a call when he is done. I never did. I called at 5 and was told he was done at 4:30 and they thought I knew to just pick him up at 4:30 sharp. Nobody could tell me if he had eaten and the test required him to fast for 12 hours. I also noticed that on my quote he was quoted to receive 5mg of dex and the charge would be 20$. Then, on my bill I noticed he received 3mg of dex and I was charged 26$. When I asked I was told this is the ' injection fee'. Weird and unhappy I left. I got the results back and was quoted 180$ for a 30 day supply of a medication I can get for 50$ 30 day supply online. (Trilostane) . Victoria(staff) and Alvarez (doc) were so amazing. The workplace as a whole needs some help.
The clinic is always very accommodating with scheduling (we have 4 cats, and we live an hour away from Lethbridge, so the clinic is always very accommodating with scheduling so that we can minimize the stress caused by travel for our kitties) The staff is knowledgeable and specialized - it's wonderful to see a veterinarian who is a feline specialist - Dr. Kate also knows how to deal with the human companions of the the cats she works with, which this human really appreciates ???? It's wonderful to be able to have such a thorough range of health services available for our cats (including dental care). In every experience we've had, it's really obvious that the staff at the clinic treat our cats with the same care that they would if they were their very own - we really appreciate this kind of compassionate care! The take-home report following the dental care (including x-rays, pre/post photos, procedural explanations, and post care/medication instructions), and the email follow-ups are appreciated - this is gold-standard care that really goes beyond normal expectations. The excellent care we receive at Family Pet Hospital is the reason we choose to go out of our way to seek their expert knowledge and skills - when it comes to the professional, personal, compassionate, thorough and knowledgeable hands-on care you provide, we would not hesitate to bring our cat family to you.
The vets, techs and receptionists are all amazing. They've been our vet since my dog was a puppy and we've been very happy with the service! They're always polite, friendly and professional while also being personable. They're patient with my dog, who has anxiety issues and they always treat him with a lot of love and understanding. Recently we had some issues with pet insurance and they were 100% supportive and helped us get the reimbursment. Dr Z is fantastic and I wouldn't bring my dog to anyone else. I can't say enough good things about them and won't go anywhere else!
Dr Kate is the best, she has saved my cats life, I would not trust anyone else with my felines...
I can not say enough about the genuine care, compassion and generosity I have received from Dr. Kate and the entire staff. Please read my experience as it will surely make choosing a vet for your animal an easy choice. I have had some health issues causing me to suffer financially. The love of my life, Harriet, a Devon Rex cat unfortunately was suffering from multiple health issues effecting her quality of life. As a loving and devoted pet owner it was heart breaking to not have the means to afford the two procedures that were needed for her to be happy and healthy. I had to make a tough choice to only get one of the two surgeries because I couldn't afford to get both done at once. An hour after I dropped my lil one off for surgery I received an incredible gift....To my complete surprise I received a call from a staff member on behalf of the clinic and dr. kate offering to do the second surgery at not cost to me! They even gifted me the after care medications. After reviewing my cats situation they concluded it was the best thing for my cat to avoid having to go through another surgery at a later date ultimately costing me more money. Not to mention my cat having to continue to suffer in the meantime while I raised additional funds. I am still in shock that they cared so much about my sweet little cat to do this for us. Their compassion and commitment to doing the best and right thing for my cat, disregarding the expense was such a blessing. I was in tears of gratitude. Relieving an amazing gift to both Harriet and myself is one of the kindest things I've ever experienced. Harriet's is recovering well and the support of the staff has continued with follow up phone calls. They are also available 24/7 with any questions or concerns I've had for her after care. They are always helpful and happy to answer my questions. I've been a pet owner my whole life and have never come across such incredible service and thorough care regarding my pet. I literally can't say enough about how highly I recommend Family Pet Hospital for your pets health care needs. You will not be disappointed. They will work with you to do what's best for your animals. Forever grateful and client for life, Sheri-Lyn and Harriet
Great pet clinic.
I absolutely trust and rely on Family Pet Hospital. I use them for my personal pets as well as the Sphynx taken into care by Alberta Sphynx and Lykoi Rescue. The clinic has exceptional and caring staff, from the first person you speak to when calling as well as the kind, compassionate and expert veterinary care. The clinic management is very professional and approachable and they truly go above and beyond when presented with a challenge ( 20 rescue Sphynx at once) I see Dr.Kate for her expertise in feline care but I would not hesitate to see another vet at the clinic. I make the drive from Calgary to Lethbridge for pet appointments -that’s how much I love this clinic.
I don't recognize this clinic after my first visit, in which everyone was so kind, friendly and respectful - across the board. They called yesterday to switch my appointment less than 24 hours before, which I was happy to do, after such a beautiful first visit and warm welcome we got. Today, the nurse didn't believe me when I explained his severe reactions post-vax and brushed it off saying that what I described wasn't related to vaccinations but didn't have any idea and wasn't inclined to probe further, while the nurse I spoke to on the day he was sick was reassuring, kind, and noted everything. Minimizing and invalidation are unhelpful regardless of circumstance. It would have been more helpful to have been met with professional listening, rather than slighted white authority. They wouldn't tell me anything beyond pay up when I asked if he was okay, so I've had to reach out to the Alberta Veterinary Medical Association to see if I can find someone to help me understand my bill and try to get his records to let me know what was done today. The nurse told me it would be a 30 minute appointment, after coming out 10 minutes late (after cancelling my appointment and asking me to switch to a time that was more convenient for them) and said they'd call me when they were finished, but didn't; so I sat in the street in my car waiting for the call that didn't come til I finally did, after 50 minutes, thinking he may have died and that's why they left me sitting out there. I have a bill with extra charges that I don't understand and which were not discussed with me at any time, and because the ladies are now evidently feeling group-slighted, I can't get any answers. What an incomprehensible flip side, after an initially warm and welcoming visit that made me feel good about bringing my sweet boy to you. A lack of respect for time and passive-aggressive 'forgetting' afterward is unacceptable professional conduct. I have the right to know how his visit went instead of being met by toxic niceness and eye rolling. Now that I see the poor baby who had his leg amputated and the tender soul who was sent back Home to howls of laughter hurts me deeply. Knowing that others are being met with this kind of mean white girl treatment, how do you expect your clients to trust that you are extending compassion to our voiceless fur babies behind closed doors?
My 2 year old French bull dog had a bit of a limp after a trip to the off leash park. I brought her in to emergency to make sure it was nothing serious. Dr. Hanna took some X-rays and diagnosed her knee cap was going out of place. He was great with her and was extremely knowledgeable. People say this place is too expensive but I want the best care for my animals and for the care she got, I don’t think it’s overpriced at all.
Had a good experience here.
We take our dogs here for the terrific care they provide. The techs and vets get down on the floor with our dogs to help keep them calm. On this occasion, we found a stray kitten on a Sunday. We thought as this is a 24 hour emergency care hospital they could help, and they certainly did.
Prices are way too high for helping my dog. I am a senior on a fixed budget and like to take good care of my animals but veterinary care here is out of my reach. I did get some good information about my dog's issues from the vet.
They tried to charge me 500$ for a small cut on my dogs back, then tried to charge me another 100$ to knock her out for the stitches to be out in as she has bad anxiety. I've seen the reviews were bad and knew what I was walking into. This is absolutely insane to charge pet owners these prices.
Always professional and knowledgable
Years ago I was stressed because my cat had an accident and needed part of his tail amputated. After a couple of phone calls I was very upset because I couldn't afford what other clinics told me it would cost. Family Pet gave me the best price and Dr. Kate saved my pet - not to mention helped me to choose appropriate pet insurance for future needs. I think this facility has the best equipment and resources available in Lethbridge. I know some people complain about the cost of after hour services, but this is meant for emergencies. If at all possible, wait until regular hours to avoid needing to pay extra for accessing services after hours. I do appreciate knowing the option is there if absolutely necessary. Thank you, Family Pet Hospital, for all you do for our furry family members!
Came in on a Sunday with our dog who had an abscess. They fit us in in just over an hour after we came in. Staff were very friendly
Amazing. ..really care and are kind!! They do not run unnecessary tests!! Highly recommend them!
I couldn't be happier that there is a place to go for emergency pets. My puppy was throwing up all night and we were desperate early Sunday morning to seek professional help. The clinic got us in right away and were very friendly to deal with. I couldn't be more grateful to them! Overall a good experience from a scary night.
Losing my buddy Magnum was the hardest thing I've had to go through in a very long time. The staff at the Family Pet Hospital were some of the most professional and understanding people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. We had never been there before, but were treated with such respect and compassion that it felt like we had been going there for all of Magnums 12 years. If my family and I ever get another pooch, and that's a big "if", there is no other place I will ever bring him/her.
We were given an estimate of nearly $800 to remove some porcupine quills from our dogs face and mouth. And when we said we couldn't afford it the receptionist used some old school fear tactics to scare us into paying. Luckily "Green Acres" pet hospital leads with love and were able to cut the bill to less than half that. Get a second quote people and find a vet who puts animals before money.
Our visit to this office was wonderful. Everyone was so kind and both my cat Felix and I felt relaxed. I knew Felix would be in good hands. The abscess drainage was quick and Felix starting acting like his regular old self fairly soon. The best part was the the veterinarian suggested the best possible diet to put Felix on without pushing it and trying to upsell. He truly prioritized the well being of my cat first. I will definitely be coming back to this clinic next time Felix needs a check up.
The dog and I saw Dr. Greer, very happy with his care and friendliness
Staff are so helpful, caring and compassionate. 24 hour service is incredible. I'm so happy Kana is doing good here, and can't wait for him to come home. He made a friend too - Amelia, you're incredible!
Short review: Excellent 24 hour veterinarian services in southern Alberta. Kind and considerate staff who helped us say goodbye to our dog in the middle of the night. Long review: In June my husband and I were camping with our dog in Writing on Stone Provincial Park. Our dog suddenly became very ill and we new we had to pack up and take her to the vets. We did not know where the closest 24 hr vet was and started driving towards Lethbridge. We called on our way to the vet and described our dogs symptoms. They reassured us that we are doing the best thing by bringing her in. Over the phone they told us it might be GDV and if it was they could stabalize her and we could take her to Calgary for surgery if that is what we decided. When we got to the Family Pet Hospital they greeted us right at the door. Our brave girl walked herself in and gave the staff a feeble wag as they greeted her. They immediately assessed her and told us that she did have GDV and that they couldn't do anything more for her. Being the old girl that she was at 12 years old we knew we had to let her go. My husband and I were a complete mess but the vet staff helped us say goodbye. Afterwards, they even offered to let us stay in their parking lot with our VW bus. We asked for her ashes and they cremated her separately. They also sent us a card in the mail and let our vet office know of Lexie's passing. We drove back to Lethbridge for her ashes. They also did a paw print in clay for us but I have not had the time to go pick it up (it would be nice if you could mail these to out of town families). Thank you Family Pet Hospital for making one of the worst days of my life manageable.
Dr. Kate is wonderful and we fully trust our cat with her. The staff is very kind and answer all the questions we have had with our rescue. There are some issues we have another vet at the hospital and we know to not deal with him.
I went to this vet clinic on Thursday around 4pm with my 5lb chihuahua who had fallen down stairs and broken her leg. The first thing they did was they tried to approve me for financing, which took forever and it didn't work so I told them I would just pay on credit card and that I wanted them to just examine her already. So They did an exam and the vet took her for X-rays, then 45 min later they come in and say they need to process the payment before they will even take the X-rays. So where did you take my dog then? So we pay for X-rays and exam, and then they come back and say there is nobody even available to fix my dogs leg until Saturday and that I should go somewhere else like Calgary. They refunded the X-rays because they still hadn't even taken them and we had to pay $120 for the exam, and I had to demand they give my dog pain meds, I was there for 4 hours they didn't offer her pain meds once!!! Gave her a quick shot, charged me an extra $30 for that and sent me out the door just before 8pm. I drove 2.5 hours to north calgary n got to McKnight emergency clinic for 11pm, by 12pm we had X-rays, more pain meds, and the final decision made up. Novas leg was so badly broken it needed to be amputated. They amputated her leg first thing the next morning, and she's now home, hoping around on three legs, and very high on pain meds. I am absolutely appalled by the behaviour of this clinic, especially the vet himself, and I will never trust them with my animals again, they only care about the money. The only positive thing I have to say is about the one blonde lady at the front desk, she stayed well past her shift and did more than necessary to help me through my anxiety attack and panic, so a big thank you to her. UPDEATE: response to family pets response. I have a recipt and credit card record proving that no, you did NOT perform my Xrays for free. You REFUNDED them to us after I demanded my money back for the mistreatment my dog and I received. I informed the clinic of my choice of vet in Calgary, McKnight, and the records were sent to the vet Family Pet told me I had to go to anyways! It is NOT the decision of ANY vet where an individual gets to take their pet for care! I told them I was taking her to my routine vet, McKnight, and family pet didn’t give two craps! They basically said ah deal with it and sent my xrays to the place they wanted to. That is absolutely negligence, it caused extra time wasted, and caused extreme stress and severe pain to myself and my dog. My dog didn’t receive care for 6+ hours after what your clinic put us through.
expensive but they fixed my furbaby
Dr. Kate is hands down the best veterinarian I have ever been to. The way she cared for my kitty and was available to answer questions was second to none. She is a very special vet and person.
We have two kittys and have been going there for years. The staff has always been great and Kate is an amazing vet. They do good work for a decent price. They also are compassionate. Back in the day when I was at university and had zero cash they cut my kitties surgery cost by a good amount. It was still expensive but I was able to afford it. Because of this my kitty is still around :).
Friendly staff. Don’t need an appointment for emergencies. Much more expensive compared to out of town vets.
We took our puppy in on a long weekend for an emergency and staff was very welcoming and friendly. They all seemed to love animals. We where quoted a price for the emergency visit and procedure and it was the exact amount they quoted us when all was said and done. Only been here once but it seemed like a lovely place. For the emergency procedure on a long weekend outside their normal hrs the price was fair.
Very friendly and helpful
They over charge more than any vet, very greedy. And never would feel safe taking my pets here after a traumatic experience with my cat.
I have alot of animals and have seen a ton of vets. We brought my 8 year old dog in who was having seizures. I was quoted 250$ to do her blood work and was charge 189$ for an emergency vet visit plus 80$ for seizure medications. We took her home that night and started her medications. I was also quoted $500+ for euthanasia for a 32kg dog. Then next morning my dog was extremely lethargic, so I called the vet from the town closest to our farm. Within 5 minutes I felt more confident in his abilities to help my dog. He explained that the drug prescribed was not a good one for a dog just developing seizures, and that the dose she was given was to high for her ( yes an overdose) he also ran blood work on her, and came up with a plan to ween her off this medication and see how she does without it, and if the seizures continued, to get her on proper medication. Yesterday being a holiday, I was also charged an emergency exam fee... my total bill $189; blood work INCLUDED! Out of curiosity, I asked how much euthanasia would be. With the cost of drugs, cremation and a box for the ashes.... 340$ I'm extremely disappointed with Family pet hospital, who are clearly only interested in making money and not caring for their patients.
Our dog had awful irritation on his stomach that was continuously getting worse. We contacted our regular vet, but they said they could not see him for another two weeks and claimed they would be unable to determine the cause of the irritation by a photo. Days had gone by and our 7 month old puppy was eating his legs raw, and finding a way to still scratch his stomach even with a cone on. We weren't sure if fleas caused this irritation, but knew we couldn't make our dog wait two weeks to get treated. So, we took him here! Within 24 hours we were able to bring our puppy in, and we were greeting by a very kind assistant. We explained that we think our dog's irritation may be from fleas, but that our former vet said "fleas don't live in Alberta" and that since our puppy was a "city dog" he'd be okay. Immediately the assistant told us this was false and validated our experiences. When Dr. Zaeem ul Islam walked in, he was very kind and welcoming. He interacted with our puppy in such a caring way, was very animated, and did a thorough examination. We left with antibiotics and a variety of strategies to try and heal and soothe our puppy's irritation and felt sincerely heard and taken care of. We look forward to binging our dog here in the future!
Shattered that you were unwilling to provide a humane euthanasization for our pet because the oncall vet was allergic?? Watching our pet suffer shouldn't be an option when you are a PET HOSPITAL.
The staff were very good with my cat, who is not good with other people. The vet also took the time to recommend food for my cat to avoid the problems I took her in for. The staff are professional and friendly and their covid practises are safe.
Kate is the best vetnarian doctor I really love her she fixed both my 5 month old kittens & she did an awesome job of taking care of them & calling us after there operations I won't go any where else 24 hour family vet is the best place to take your pets they really nice people & they really care......
A very cat friendly, knowledgable and ethical practice. They take good care of our two cats and on top of that they have a great selection of food. There's also some very cute adoptable cats that spend time here.
If I could have given it less than one star I would have. There was zero sense of empathy and formating basics around empathy toward animals in care. Examples: An dog needed shaving before surgery. The location of the shaving table is in the middle of the cages closely surrounded by the other dogs which can SEE the dog, under anesthetic, being flipped around. This distresses the dogs. The force of air from blow-dryer would blow into the dog in the adjacent pens causing further distress. This level of distress doesn't provide an environment for optimal healing and there is no need for it other than it displays lack of empathy and care. How would you like to be in surgery and go through this experience yourself? Do you think the trauma of experiencing this would help or hinder your healing?
All the staff here really love and care for animals. My cats are never nervous when we visit
Very thankful for how amazing everyone here treat my babies. They have had quite a few health issues over the years, with the last year being more serious and they are always willing to put my mind at ease with a phone call, make sure their meds are ordered and ready, and doing little things too. Like asking how they are when I call, or just a few days ago when I picked up their medicine and they drew hearts on the bag. Just really sweet & kind people there. Thank you all for all you do ❤️
Very overpriced, adds on unnecessary tests to gouge money out of you.
Dr. Kate is the most compassionate veterinarian - both towards her patients and their owners. She is fully invested in the best interests in your animal, and at the same time shows no judgement towards the pet owner. She shows incredible technical ability while caring for your loved one. I can not recommend her enough - you will not feel more taken-care of with her.
Paid 200 for them to do nothing but tell me my dog had a fever which we already knew. And to find any other information would require an insane amount of money. Would not recommend for emergencies.
Staff was friendly
Took my dog there last week for a bite he received on his face. Received fast, friendly care and my little guy is now almost fully on the mend It was costly visit, but what vet isn't? 5 Stars!
We have been going to FPH for years now. As a result, the vets/techs know our boys personally and greet them like they are their own. Before any service is provided you are given a quote and they are more than willing to be flexible and/or find cost effective ways for treatment. They offer insurance options through Trupanion and Pet Secure and can direct bill to them. Thank you to FPH for taking good care of M & B!
Never take your pet here! I needed emergency help for my cat a little while back that was hit and they could care less. My mother was just there with her dog and the way they treat customers is absolutely terrible, very rude and the lady with the red hair needs a SERIOUS attitude adjustment. Save yourself a headache and go to Green Acres in Lethbridge.
We had a badly injured gopher in our yard and we brought it to them to put it down. They did this for free and were really nice about it. The staff was friendly and good with kids
Our almost 2 year old red heeler got THC toxicity from something in our backyard. She was rocking, flinching, convulsing and eventually lost bladder control. Family Pet took us in within 20 mins of our first call at 9:30 pm, found answers quickly, and were very understanding! So grateful to have our pup home and healthy again!!
Dr. Grandoni is the most compassionate Vet I've ever been to. She allways helps me get through rough times aswell as my pup. Thank you Dr Grandoni ????
Good care with good hours but expensive relative to other vets.
The only place to bring your cat ????!
This clinic is absolutely amazing! They have spayed and neutered 15 bunnies for me and within 12 hours the bunnies are eating, drinking and moving around like nothing happened. I have taken my rescues to three other clinics and have never seen such an amazing recovery in such little time! They have gone above and beyond for my rescues and I’m just in awe of how amazing this clinic is. I am so unbelievably impressed. We also had an incident back in April where one of our bunnies had to be euthanized due to E.Cuniculli. First of all Dr.Grandoni was the only vet to actually diagnose him properly and give me the proper medications. Unfortunately it was too late and the parasite had attacked his whole nervous system and there was no saving him. It was my first euthanasia in the rescue and her and her team did so amazing walking us through everything and really being there for us. It was a devastating loss but she took the time to make sure I understood that I was making the right choice as Peanut was suffering severely. They have examined many of my rabbits and have helped me so many times. I can’t not say enough good things about this clinic and how above and beyond they go!
Went in for an emergency visit, the stictches the vet put in had come out and it got infected. We took our cat in as soon as we could, and the prices were astronomical. We were offered pills or liquid medication, but when we asked for the pills we were told that they didn’t have them so we had to use liquid. Considering it is a 24 hour hospital, it’s a bit extreme to charge almost $200 to look at a pet “after hours”. While waiting for the procedure to be done, one of the workers was wondering around the front and back rooms without shoes on.. seems a bit unsanitary. Will NOT be returning here again, I would rather travel out of the city to get our animals help than deal with this facility again.
Great staff and a wealth of knowledge.
The staff was very friendly. They allowed me to go back to visit with my son's dog. Gave us a leash so she could go for a walk. And the smell. CLEAN
Took my dog in on an emergency on Christmas Day. The on call Vet gave a diagnosis of Marijauna ingestion but turns out she had a bad infection on her posterior. I am not sure how he made diagnosis.
Don't waste your time or money. All they care about is getting as much money out of you as they can. Have an issue with my dog, not the first time, so I know how it is treated. Told them exactly what the problem is. Still have to pay an emergency fee. Even though it is during regular business hours. Dog has to be sedated (not once in the 4 other times I've had it treated, including twice when it was an actual after hours emergency was this necessary). I have heard horror stories about getting a huge bill from this vet, now I see that those stories were probably true. UPDATE Took my dog to a different vet and it was 1/4 the price Family Pet quoted, and no sedative required.
I didn't think my puppy would make it after he hung himself while trying to jump off the back of the truck to try and chase something but everybody here was amazing. They let me stop by after hours every day to see him and they called to check up once I brought him home. It's been a few months and my little guy is t so little anymore but he's happy and healthy.
Our 18 week old puppy had an allergic reaction to something (we think a wasp stung his mouth) and he started to swell up really fast. We panicked and took him to the Family Pet Hospital and 24 Hour Per Hospital (they aren’t our usual vet) and they saw and treated our puppy within minutes of us getting there. I was very impressed with how fast they saw our puppy and although I couldn’t meet the staff treating our dog, due to COVID, they all seemed very kind and caring when interacting with them over the phone. I would definitely recommend they pet hospital services, although they do come at a high price (higher than the clinics I have been to in Calgary).
Due to my hedgehog having WHS, he gradually became paralyzed and began to mutilate himself, and I knew it was time for him to go. I was distraught to see my beloved hedgehog all red with blood and in pain, so I decided to call a vet to put him down. The receptionist had to search up the prices for euthanasia, which took a while. For a small animal, euthanasia was $500+, or $600+ if you want them cremated. I’m a university student who lives alone with a minimum wage job for some pocket money so I did not have $500+ on hand, as I took him to the vet earlier that week as well. I asked for an alternative and they said I could pay $50 but I wouldn’t be able to get the body back. I am unsure why the price difference is extremely dramatic ($500 vs $50– just to get the body back?) It was all very quick, I completely forgot to ask questions and nothing was briefed to me.. I hope he was able to pass with little pain. But the staff is very considerate and caring for animals, I really appreciate the card they mailed me to express their condolences
Family Pet Hospital is our Medical Home for our Cattery - SugarSphynx and Lykoi Cattery. We are extremely pleased with the care our Cats receive. Always in a timely, respectful and professional manner. COVID19 has changed the way that we engage, but, the staff has always kept us informed of findings of each appointment. Highly recommended.
Terrible experience will never go back. Took our kitten in for a urinary emergency, obviously without looking into it enough we were told it’ll cost up to 3k for the procedure and a few days stay. Or the other option would be euthanasia and that’s it. We couldn’t afford that massive bill out of no where and we wanted a second look so we waited to see our normal vet later in the day. Our vet looked at him fully and He Ended up only needing some antibiotics and a new diet now he’s doing great. Almost put our cat down over nothing.
I send my little chihuahua cross down to Lethbridge fairly often to visit with his grandparents. A few weeks ago, I set up an emergency plan with the local vet hospital, just in case. Sure enough, yesterday he stepped on a porcupine quill at a local park. It was stuck in his little paw, and my parents rushed him to Family Pet hospital. They were so kind, and gentle with him, and within a few minutes he was back like nothing had happened! Great job to the kind staff, especially Lauren!
I tried to make an appointment for euthanasia for my dog with his regular vet clinic, but for some reason they told me to go to the 24 hour clinic in stead. But I'm glad they did. The staff was patient, respectful, and my dog died peacefully in my arms as I held him outside on the park bench. (I subtracted a star for an expensive visit 5 years earlier ... because I'm heartless like that.)
I have to say I was very impressed with the service I have received today! my precious peanut was seen and treated and the care and compassion they showed me for my precious was top notch!! And it was fairly reasonable in price I was very pleased with my experience and thank you for the great care my precious peanut got today!
It's a nice and friendly vet office, however, it's overpriced compared to a lot of other vets due to its large, prime location and 24/7 emergency service. Switching to a smaller vet on another side of town will save you a few hundred dollars. Highlands Pet Hospital is nice. I will likely still come here for emergencies as they're very responsive and can usually get your pet seen within 15 minutes to an hour and a half, much better than waiting for a vet appointment in urgent times. Their euthanization service is friendly as well. I was mailed a sympathy card and paw print stamp 3 weeks after my cat passed away from multi-organ tumors. They have a quiet room for grieving, and are very respectful. They also have an option to have your pet creamated on its own so you can keep the ashes. They are a bit blunt with their medical advice, sometimes opting for expensive options (ie my Maine Coon cross must go on $65 urinary food my other elderly cat has trouble eating as the kibbles are quite large -- ended up switching to another brand as I think they just shill for Science Diet/Royal Canin, as many vets do), but they are honest in their diagnoses, and often take the cautious route -- such as keeping your pet overnight for observation, although that will cost you a minimum of $250, usually.
Fantastic! will be recommending to everyone When my regular vet would not even call me back on their emergency line, I contacted Family Pet Hospital and they got us in right away. They were compassionate and gentle with our baby and I didn't cringe at the cost. They made us feel welcome and didn't rush us out the door. We will be coming to them from now on!
They saved my dogs life!
AMAZING staff they helped me & my family out with our dog that recently had TPLO surgery done that wasn’t done properly & made sure he was cared for right away! Always kept in touch with us to let us know how our dog was doing ???? I couldn’t thank them enough! Highly recommend family pet hospital! You guys are great!!
Absolutely do not use this Clinic, the prices are out of control. There are more than half a dozen choices in Lethbridge and Taber that are half the price and the service is equal to if not better. Look around and you will save money, I should have taken this advice myself today.
Awesome team, they couldn't have been any more helpful and supportive. A great spacious hospital. Would recommend them to anyone locally and for specialist treatments (stem cell therapy)
Horrible! The vet we had had no empathy no sympathy it was all about the money and his ego!!! Cold!
Awesome
My daughter had taken her kitten in had a leg dislocation and the vet took exrays the kitten was put on meds and a splint applied to his leg that part was ok changing the splint for 4 weeks and then they didn't change it on the 5th week took it off it at 6 weeks was taken off now the kitten has sores on his leg and the vet on says to her if that doesn't heal he will have to have his leg amputated and that it was her fault he was like this she has been very carefull with her kitten to make sure everyone would go ok and the vet tells her it will have to be amputated and u won't beable to afford that ....what gives him the right to even say that to my daughter who is 4 months pregnant unreal I will never go there or refer any of my friends
I appreciated the kind and knowledgeable staff with an emergency situation. Clean and comfortable environment. Treatment plans are discussed and fees are presented helping you make informed decisions for your pet. Great service!
Thank you. Dr. Kate. You did above and beyond care for our kids --- our cats. Thanks again
SOOO grateful for the knowledgeable and friendly staff here! My dog got bit by a rattlesnake on Sunday and they were waiting for me at the door to bring her back and get her started on the right antibiotics and pain control meds ASAP. For her whole stay I was able to come visit whenever I wanted, call if I needed an update and ask any questions to the actual vet if I was worrying about anything! Recommend this vet clinic for your animals as the staff were always making sure the animals were happy, safe and getting enough loving! THANK YOU!!!! Love this place and will be using it from now on for all my fur babies needs!!
I call to have my cat seen and just to see the cat is $180 so excuse me that's highway robbery. I'm not against paying to have my cat seen but that is not even possible for a lot of people. If I could I'd give 0 stars
The staff was amazing and helped us through one of the hardest nights of our lives. The quiet family room to say goodbye was perfect. Thank you so much for helping our kitty's passing be as beautiful as he deserved.
Losing my dog was one of the most emotional things I have gone through in a long time. I had never been to the Family Pet Hospital before, but the staff were so kind and compassionate to my girl. They let us take as much time as we needed to say good bye. I truly appreciate the staff there, as they were very professional and caring during such a difficult time. I'm sorry I never got to thank the staff properly as I was an emotional wreck the whole time, but I am grateful we brought my girl there.
I brought in my dog after she had gotten into some chicken bones, and the staff was incredibly helpful and patient with us through the whole experience. My poor pup hates the vet and was extremely nervous, but the staff was very accommodating and understanding of our situation. A big thank you to everyone who helped us for the awesome service! It helped make a incredibly stressful situation go smoothly!
Excellent reception. Excellent Doctors. Thank you all for fixing up my pup and not bankrupting me in the process.
Great group of people who really care about animals.
Kind, knowledgable Doctors. Have taken our dog and 1 cat here so far. Will not go anywhere else. Upfront about costs which are very reasonable considering the level of care and compassion given to animals and their people. We drive 40 minutes to go here even though we have 3 different vets within 5 minutes of our house.
I cannot say enough good things about the Lethbridge Family Pet Hospital. I tend to adopt rescued dogs and cats that have multiple health issues. This would not be possible without the Family Pet Hospital team who help set up care plans for my pets, perform any required surgeries, and are always available to answer my questions and help me take very good care of my fur-buddies. :)
Very disappointed in the communication between employees had my cat spayed was told they had tiny onesies for cats that dont do well with the cones they informed me if I came down they would provide me with one after rushing across town because they closed at 4 i barely made it but once I arrived they told me no! I could not have the onesie even if I paid for it so not only did I waste gas and time they wouldn't even let me see it in order to go purchase my own... I was given a tiny piece of gauze... that wasn't what I needed and they couldn't even call me before my arriving:(
Took my 22 month old dog in because he got some water in his lungs, they put him on oxygen and sedated him, they told me he was stable then called 2 hours later to say he was dead, it was all about money from the start, I would have sold my soul to pay for my dogs life, I was told years ago to avoid going to this place that they wouldn’t help bully breed dogs and as far as I’m concerned they proved that yesterday, I’ve seen dogs brought back to life after drowning, but my dog walked in and was dead 2 hours later, I would never advise anyone who loves their pet to go anywhere near this place, if I could give no star rating I would, I only wish I hadn’t gone there then my dog might have had a chance, please don’t trust them with your pets.
If u can take your pet any place take them some.place better . Worse service EVER
It was the first time I had dealt with this vet. We had called the vet we have been taking Our Tito to but there was no answer even on their emergency number. So we called Family Pet Hospital as they were the closest to where we were at the time. Our dog Tito collapsed and became unresponsive. It was late in the evening about 7. They answered told us to bring him right over and that they would be at the door waiting. They started cpr on Tito and carried on and tried all they could to revive him but to no avail. They showed great compassion for myself and my boys through out the whole ordeal. It was one of the hardest days we loved Tito like he was one of our children. He was a well loved and spoiled pitbull mastiff cross. At 15 months he was 130 lbs. From the moment we got there They were professional and compassionate. Thank you Family Pet Hospital for doing all you could for Tito. And showing great compassion. Soon as we pulled up they started working on him to try and get him back. After 20 or so minutes it was evident Tito had moved on. I've been to other vets where the first thing they worry about is whether you can pay or not. No problem with that with us either way. I would have given up everything if it meant Tito was to be saved. No dollar amount would have been too much. Their main concern was to help Tito. Again thank you so much Family Pet Hospital.
Excellent place to take your injured or unhealthy pet to.
I have never been one to write a review on anything, whether it’s a hotel, restaurant, hairstylis, etc. But today, was the day I finally needed to speak up about this crooked place. I know this job is hard, and generally in this occupation people have the best intentions and mean well. Unfortunately in Lethbridge and surrounding area we are faced with a problem, we only have one go to Pet Hospital and it’s this place. Which I’m certain it’s caused an astounding amount of greed and carelessness. Here’s why; recently my brother and his partner brought their dog in. He is only 7, larger dog and very active on an acreage. He’s always happy and ready for adventures, till last Friday he suddenly had problems pooping. He whimpered all night and the following morning was brought in. Here is what $230 at the Lethbridge 24/7 Pet Hospital costs you to get your dog legitimately just STARED at for them to tell you that you’re dog likely has cancer and you will probably need to put him down. Then after that heart wrenching news, continue to disacknowledge them or their concerns because “there is other people and other pets they need to worry about”. On the upside, thankfully the Coaldale Vet Clinic was able to book my brothers dog in at the beginning of the week. It took them only a few minutes to immediately figure out the only issue was a large amount of bone shards stuck inside him. It took no more than $180 for the Coaldale Clinic to sedate him, clean him out, and give us all the answers to all the questions and concerns we had with nothing but compassion and sincerity. Second note, almost 7 years ago I came here when my small dog was hit by a car, had a broken femur and some internal bleeding. It was past 9PM at this point. We sat for almost an hour for them to explain the process of what we will have to do with him as he layed there on oxygen dying. The vet at the time gave us false hope that the dog was okay, and explained we’d need a surgeon and we would have to make the trip to Calgary but there was nothing he could do until we had a credit card approval. Unfortunately it was too late at the time so it took us till the next morning to get approved. We took our dog to Calgary anyway in hopes by the time we got there it would go through, it didn’t. The place they recommended us to in Calgary waited until my dog went under cardiac arrest till they gave him any blood transfusions, they watched my Father, brother, best friend and I all cry for hours. Then waited for the second time he went under cardiac arrest then started doing the procedures to save his life. That wasn’t until they already knew he was going to die; and we got to go home with a $4000 bill and a dead family member.
I had such a good experience with this pet hospital. They got me in super fast when I was very worried about my cat. They did everything they could for me, regardless of my insane crying. I was treated with such respect and so was my cat. I'd definitely recommend them to anyone.
Went in in the middle of the night (my dog ran into a porcupine on our night walk). The staff was very friendly and understanding. The service was excellent and fast.
My cat has problems with pet hospitals he tends to get scared and mean but the vets there do everything they can to make him feel safe. It is very much appreciated. ????
We have taken our dog, Ziggy to Dr. Barry for the last 6 years and have a great experience every time. The staff always remembers us and our dog, (considering how busy they are) and Dr. Barry always gives Ziggy the best care and treatment. Thank you!
Turned me and my dog away tonight when he was in an emergency. Told me to drive to okotoks so much for 24 hours eh. Went out of town not only did I get the after hours visit meds and examination but all for the price they would charge for a visit after hours. Also quoted double for dental work as everywhere else
I would like to thank Family Pet Hospital for all the excellent care I have received over the years for my pets. Dr. Kate is my regular vet. I can not say enough about her. She is so kind, compassionate and knowledgeable. Dr. Kate takes the time to answer all your questions and she truly cares about your feelings too. She truly is a blessing. All staff are very accommodating. You can be sure your pet will be left in good hands.❤
Just picked up pills... very expensive
Love it, they make you and pet(s) feel like number one.
Embarrassment doctors embarrassment receptionist slippery floors hot rooms with windows that don’t open should be shut down immediately no respect or care for your animals an over priced and undereducated staff straight garabage do not take ur pet here
While out for a walk around 5:30 this afternoon, our daughter's visiting chihuahua cross accidentally stepped on a porcupine quill, and it embedded in the pad of his little paw. The professional, kind. and empathetic service our little guy received was second to none! The problem was taken care of quickly, and within 15 minutes, Paco Sanchez was back in our arms and begging to go for another walk! Thank you so much to the doctors and staff at the Family Pet Hospital. Will recommend to all!!
AVOID THIS PLACE!! Horrible experiences here. It’s Mostly Very rude people from all areas of the clinic and their prices are unrealistic and unreasonable! The Vet I dealt with wasn’t a skilled one! I Brought my cat in because he was showing signs of stress and I was charged around $600 for all sorts of random tests that she wanted to do to figure it out. Where afterwards all those test results came back and showed that there was absolutely nothing wrong with him. Where they then offered to give him a overnight service and put him on medication for more money. I had to just end the appointment at that and before the appointment cost me over 1000$ when I simply brought him in for not feeling well and when I felt nothing was gonna be done to positively help him. Also the Manager that works here is brutal at her job & was rude and needs an attitude check.
Always friendly staff, and take awesome care of my pets
My cat Bailey had the urinary blockage. I took him to my usual vet. Bailey was very critical and was almost at death's door. My vet told me that Family Pet Hospital was his only chance. I rushed him there and they saved his life. I owe Bailey's life to Dr. Kate and the staff. They are absolutely wonderful. They gave Bailey not only the medical attention he needed, but love and assurance as he is a very nervous cat and does not like strangers. I was also told I could phone anytime if I had questions or concerns. Dr. Kate always called me every day with an update on Bailey's progress. I would definitely recommend Family Pet Hospital to anyone looking for a vet and would not hesitate to take any of my pets there again should they need one.
Would not recommend. If you have an emergency, Chris at Edgewater in Ft MacLeod is wonderful and will come in on the weekend. I have also heard that chinook vet in lethbridge is open on Saturdays from 8am until 12pm
Always wonderful with our pets and wonderful staff.
Brought my 9 week old puppy in, was able to get in immediately on a Sunday. Dr. Thomas saw him asap & xrayed him just to be sure what was going on. Brady the tech was very reassuring as we were both worried, very VERY grateful to have you guys in case anything happens at anytime of day or night. Thank you again ❤ 1000% recommend family pet hospital
Always pleasant and helpful
brought my pup in as he was vomiting a rather lot . I wasnt really given any information and 250$ for fluids given and my pup is still in the same condition as he was when i brought him in . I dont have a lot pf experience with vets , although when charging people those prices at a time like this , youd think a little more information and care would be put forth . We will need to bring him again but it will not be there .
My young male cat was unable to pass urine, the vets and staff at Family Pet Hospital were compassionate, they gave me options and explained things clearly. I really appreciated that they got him in quickly.
They are the worst vet in town .. over priced and a screw job. Called about a surgery for my dog, got told that it would be $3200 than called about the pre screening was told that it was covered in the cost of the $3200. Got there and was told we had to pay $730 for this appointment and it was not covered. So in an hour it changed from being covered to not being covered. This place sucks. Their people don't know what they are talking about. Fort Macleod is 1/2 the price with better care and more included services... DO NOT USE THEM.
I've had two interactions with the Family Pet Hospital and both were outstanding. Everyone was so professional and kind, right from the front desk person, the veterinary assistant, and the vet himself. The vet and I had slightly different opinions on what the treatment should be but he listened to me and was totally agreeable with what I wanted to do. He didn't try to pressure me into things I wasn't ready to do and was OK with the treatment I wanted. I will always use the Family Pet Hospital for my pet's needs. Thank-you to all the staff that helped me.
They took care of my cat but definitely pressured us to have multiple other, expensive procedures done that were not necessary.
I can't speak to what the vets are like personally because I walked out after waiting almost an hour with my terrified small animal. Nobody even bothered to pop their head in and let me know what the hold up was, or how much longer it would be, and this was with an appointment!!! If they treat their customers with such disregard, then I can only imagine how they treat the animals they see. Im happy I left because I ended up going to Green Acres (they were the only office able to get me in the next day) and had a completely different and positive experience.
Excellent care
Brought our cats here to get fixed it seemed alright at first besides the front desk girl being kind of rude. We continued to use them regardless.. But recently brought our dog in for issues with his eyes. The vet didnt even do a routine physical on him.. She said she needed to put him under anesthesia to look at his eyes closer so we set an appointment for that.. But prescribed eye drops anyway.. We used the eye drops and his eyes got much worse. Figured maybe they would take a few days to work but they kept getting worse. So we decided to get another opinion at a different clinic.. Immediately the vet knew what was wrong and expained the eye drops we were prescribed had steriods in them and were making the problem worse and if we kept using them he could lose his eye sight. We have new eye drops now and in 1 day his eyes already look better. Not to mention the price was about half at the new place.
