Negative stars. After my puppy ingested poison on the sidewalk she was rushed here as it was the only place open. The receptionist was extremely rude and condescending, After waiting outside on the sidewalk for someone to answer the door a rude receptionist finally came with an unenthusiastic look on her face. when I asked her the wait times, and advised her of the symptoms my puppy was presenting and that she was only 15 weeks old, she replied “yeah, we have a real emergency that takes precedence over this” at this time i was on the phone with poison control advising my puppy be assessed ASAP. When the rude receptionist took my dog after waiting outside for an hour she provided no wait time except for probably around 5 hours and to wait in my car. Anytime I attempted to call the clinic I was placed on hold for minutes at a time only to find out my dog won’t even be assessed by a vet for 4-5 hours minimum and to just wait in my car, even after poison control advised on the phone this was a time sensitive and to notify the vet my puppy needed to be seen “stat”. If poison control did not step in saying they would contact the vet advising she be seen immediately who knows how long we would have waited. This is by far the WORST vet I have ever been too, they lack basic compassion and communication and value money over animal care. The worst part is not being allowed in with your animal and seeing what goes on behind closed doors. When you take your dog to the vet you should feel comforted knowing they’re in excellent care with a friendly staff. The only thing they’re good at is stressing out owners and racking a bill. If you can avoid bringing your animal here I would.

Very Disappointing!!! Veterinarian has more Suggestions to do than necessary for your pet. You will have more visit appointments in the future than necessary to ensure his business not about your pet's health. Be very Cautious! Stay away! Make a time to look for other place. I made a mistake of going without reading other Reviews first. Ciao!

Arrived at the Emergency with an actively seizuring ferret and was turned away because the vet did not have experience with exotics. If you are working in an emergency vet clinic you are to have knowledge on all animal's as I am told by the lovely girls at Calgary Trail Vet Clinic. Do not recommend this emergency clinic at all. If your pet is in need of emergency please take them to Guardian.

If I could give zero stars I would..... I brought my 18 year old cat in, that was bleeding and in pain. We decided as a family that it was time to put the cat down, as she was in pain. Went into the clinic WITHOUT the kids to speak to them first as to our intentions, so that we were not SOLD a ton of tests on a cat that we were planning to put down. They would not do anything without paying for test - so really just a money grab. They were made aware as the complexity of the situation at the front desk and the first thing the vet says as she walks into the room (with my son there) is " I hear you want to put the cat down" This was in VERY POOR taste!!!! She then proceeded to tell me that it was a healthy cat and they will not put down a healthy cat. The only way they can deem it "unhealthy" is to pay for the test. MONEY GRAB. This is not 8 year old cat, it is 18 year old cat that is no longer herself and is in pain. The vet then would not come talk to me after i sent my son outside with the cat. - I assume it was because her skip the dishes just arrived!!!

We took our puppy here late at night after being referred by our vet who was closed at the time. The staff at the clinic were very friendly and attentive. They took us in right away and gave us all the options and their recommendation. Within an hour and a half our puppy had thrown up the object he ate and we were on our way.

On May 23, I brought my best buddy, my beloved dog Caesar to this Vet for the first time, and also his last. He was an older dog, 16 years. He was very sick. I called to get him checked out, and they took him right away. They advised me of the risks of the tests they needed to perform. When it was all said and done, the Doctor was very honest with me. This is something I value. She advised me that while there were treatments available, she could make no guarantees and that, in her professional opinion it was best that I euthanize my best friend. I respect the Doctor's honesty. We had the opportunity to say good-bye. They even gave us chicken treats to give him. He loved chicken. When we were ready, the Doctor explained what was going to happen. It was so peaceful. The staff were so respectful and understanding. They were amazing. They understood what we were going through. I'll never forget that. To the staff who were working on 23 May, 2021. Thank you for your compassion, your sympathy, you humanity, and your unerring sense of professionalism. You all made are hard day just a little bit easier.

I had a very unsettling experience with this clinic. My chihuahua was experiencing what I thought to be some respiratory problems and I only came here because it was the closest to my home and only one open late. I usually go to the Edmonton West Animal Hospital for emergencies and the service at this place compared to them was ridiculous. When we arrived we were the only car in the parking lot, no other patients to be seen. The receptionist that took my information was very vague and did not disclose that there was only one vet on shift and happened to be doing a surgery at the moment. If I had known this (and that I would have waited 2+ hours) I would have gone elsewhere. The tech that came to retrieve my dog seemed like she wasn't even listening to me explaining his symptoms, and I had to repeat myself on the phone again. This clinic would not allow any visitors inside with their pets. Given this is an ER and not a regular check up, not being able to be with your pet in a time of distress was quite frankly disgusting, given many other ER vets allow 1 person in with their pet for their COVID restrictions. People are in more contact with more people on a trip to Costco, yet I could not be with my pet while he waited to be seen, after being given zero explanations about what was going on. I was even told on the phone that if my pet was in any sort of danger or distress, I would STILL not be allowed in the clinic. Knowing this, I will never come here again knowing I would not be able to be with my pet in a potentially serious situation. Clinic policy is understandable, but if you are going to take my pet for hours, and I, the client, have to be the one to call to receive any updates on my pet, that is ridiculous. I called multiple times to find out if my pet was even being supervised, or stable and breathing, only to be patronized by the woman at the desk and given vague explanations. The only positive experience that evening was the Vet. He was very professional, very thorough and very kind. He gave me many explanations and options for further testing with my regular vet. If you are an anxious pet owner, or have a dog with separation anxiety, do not come here, you will be waiting hours with little to no updates or reassuring dialogue from the receptionists and techs. I will take my chances and drive further for better attention and care. I should have read the reviews on this place before setting foot here.

I'd like to tell you about Prometheus. He is 10 years old. He sleeps most of the day and periodically howls until I spend at least an hour rubbing his belly and pointing a laser around the room for him to chase. He is my best friend. A couple of months ago we discovered that he had a blocked urethra. He was in a bad way. He needed immediate attention or, within hours, he would be dead. VetEmerg saved my best friend. They not only managed to professionally handle a very sick, very paranoid and upset kitty, they managed to calmly and professionally handle his freaked out support staff. Prometheus survived some really bad damage to his kidneys, the blocked urethra and is back to his old self. I don't know how long he has before the damage to his kidneys catches up with him, but I do know that "months" of survival was a pretty outside estimate, given what had happened. Here we are, months later. Prometheus is doing fine. Better than he has in some time. VetEmerg are the ones to thank for that. So thank you, VetEmerg!

I had an emergency with my baby girl and she was taken care of by the team at this clinic very well. Special thank you to Dr.Ahmed for being so caring and accommodating. My baby girl came home all fixed up and I left feeling thankful I had brought her here when no other clinic was open.

Brought my cat in because he wasn’t peeing and all of the staff were incredibly kind and helpful. I hope I don’t have to go back for my cat’s sake, but I definitely had a great experience. Castiel gives a big thank you to the staff :)

Few weeks ago I had to put down Ham ham, my hamster at the VetEmerg, (wet tail disease) today I received a sympathy card from them. ???? They also gave us his paw print on the paper at the vet before he passed. This place is fantastic, they take care of your babies. Check them out if one of your baby needs to get check out. Experienced staff, short wait time and very helpful team. thank you, Ham ham didn't suffer for long and went peacefully because of you guys.

THIS IS NOT A 24 hr CLINIC. I called at midnight before showing up and was told that the vet is doing charts and is no longer seeing patients. They told me his shift ends at 2am but he stops seeing patients at 10pm. They referred me to …

***Graphic Picture**** My dog had an interaction with a porcupine. They were really attentive and quick getting Tam sedated so she stopped rubbing, minimizing her pain and further damage. Her treatment was thorough and I felt like the staff really cares. The staff kept us updated throughout treatment and took the time to answer questions. Before and after pics.

Last night my Mom and I had to bring in her 14 year old Chihuahua, Louis to be euthanized (his heart was failing). It was so heartbreaking and we were really scared to do this and were unsure we were making the right decision. The staff at the North Central Animal Hospital were so, incredibly kind to us. We’ve unfortunately lost pets in the past but this was by far the best experience we’ve ever had. They were so kind and gentle with Louis, and he was so comfortable that he was even wagging his tail. He was so scared when we brought him in but he calmed right down and was happy up until his last moment. The staff reassured us that we were making the right decision and explained everything so compassionately. It’s always hard to let a pet go, but because of the staff and their kindness we felt we were making a loving decision. We felt respected, safe and we felt that the staff cared deeply for Louis even though they had just met him. I can’t recommend this place or the staff enough. Thank you to the staff for being so kind, accommodating and compassionate to both my Mom and I, and to Louis. We are deeply grateful.

Been here multiple times for my dog, and they have done a very good job. Nothing but professionalism through out all the staff and very helpful people. Cheapest and most reasonable prices I have found in the city and a great team. I recommend them to anyone, always came through when my animal needed them most. Thank you guys for a great job .

My mini Schnauzer unexpectedly ate 80 grams of chocolate at 6pm on a weeknight. My regular vet was closed. VCA did a phone consult first and were very knowledgeable when we arrived. With Covid protocols, I was unable to go inside. However, they kept me apprised of my dog's condition with phone calls and laid out all of my treatment options (including prices). They were very supportive and professional. My doggie made a full recovery and is doing well.

VetEmerg and the team there saved our Malcolm's life! What's more, they did so with passion and genuine care. Upon noticing something was not right with our 90lb dog, we began the search for a vet that was still open! VetEmerg it was. We called in advance and they were ready to help as soon as we arrived. We were explained, in detail, all procedures and the costs associated before they occurred. Malcolm was suffering from gastric torsion which required emergency surgery. The surgeon was called and within 30 minutes Malcolm was prepped and ready. A 2 night stay followed his successful surgery. During this time we were welcome to visit our pup at ANY time! Each time we visited we were able to speak with a vet and receive updates on his recovery. All staff was absolutely amazing! Kind, compassionate and educated. Patient, upbeat and informative. Our family is extremely thankful for this clinic and all who work there! We only wish they were able to be our regular veterinary office!

My 12 year old dachshund has inflammatory bowel disease. It’s been managed quite well by maintaining a raw food diet with vegetables. However, she started having stomach pain and was whimpering and tender when she was touched. I rushed her into this vet emergency location and the vet was knowledgeable, professional, and treated Digger with care. She took the time to explain to me what was going on. Digger was treated, and back to her old self in a week. I would recommend this location over guardian vet hospital.

M White (Hobbitnaut)

Amazing and accommodating staff, and it was my first time ever having to take a pet/animal companion to urgent care. Everyone was kind and very helpful to me and my dummy (formerly stray) feline, who got a pretty nasty bite wound from another cat at the back of his neck. The techs and assistants where wonderful, but especially the vet who treated and took care of my boy. Have him full treatment and set of medications even though I'm on income support and a budget. Thank you so much to Dr. Bevans and her staff/coworkers. Your kindness and empathy will never be forgotten! Bless you all!

I found the service professional and friendly. The cost is about 25% more for basic services but honestly I don't even mind that, considering how thankful I am to have an emergency service available when I need it at 4 am. The reason I went down a star is based not on the price of service itself, but on the way services are pushed onto you. I get that it is a constant push/pull with clients who want to spend as little as possible and vets who want to run tests just to be safe. However I did get the feeling that the staff here lean a little heavy on tests that are ultimately unnecessary. At the end of the day though I'll say again that I was happy with the staff and my experience overall. I'll definitely be visiting again for all my after hours needs and will be happy to pay a premium for the option. Seems fair!

I can not be more happy took my unhappy, unwell girl there yesterday. The staff were wonderful and caring. Today my dog is back to her normal happy self after the medication and care. Thank you.

I brought my dog, Clover, here on Friday after she was hit by a truck. It was 10 pm and they were the closest open vet. When we got there, a tech came out with a gurney to help us get Clover inside. She did a great job of keeping her from jumping off the gurney to get back to us. I waited in an exam room while they checked Clover out and the tech came to tell me Clover hadn't broken anything and was running and rolling around and being a happy dog. I literally sobbed with relief. I waited another half hour or so while the vet ran blood work then they brought her back to me. Another dog came in so I had to wait a bit to actually speak to the vet but it was late so it didn't surprise me there was only one vet there. I felt the vet was very thorough in explaining the risks my dog was facing over the next 72 hours and what to watch for. Everyone was super friendly and reassuring. In total I was there for 1.5 hours (which included 30 minutes to wait for the blood work results). Compared to an emergency room for people in this city, that was super fast. :) Happy to report Clover was not badly hurt. She was a little sore but before the 72 hour mandated rest was over, she was begging to play. THANK YOU to VCA Canada North Central Animal Hospital for being there for my dog and I. I think, more than anything, we needed reassurance and we found that here in abundance.

I had an incident with my dog and another dog. We rushed the other owner's dog to this facility during COVID. They were quick to come outside and retrieve the dog, sedate and give x-rays. Having seen the wound and help the dog in my arms I know that they saved this dogs life. Their receptionist Susan/Susanne(?) and Dr. Aker(?) helped me when I was distraught over what had happened. I am eternally grateful for what they did for this little dog.

We have always taken our dog here. And the staff has been very understanding and helpful. Our dog always enjoys her stay. She gets quite spoiled when she’s there. The staff gives u all your options and tries to help in any way possible.

Have brought my elderly dog here a couple of times -- both times very early in the morning (2-3am), and once during a holiday. With her chronic health condition, even a few hours can make a major difference in recovery. I've been extremely pleased with the level of service / care and compassion at this clinic. Yes, of course, it's more expensive than an ordinary vet clinic -- but naturally so are the costs of running a 24/7/365 clinic. Great vets, and great after-visit follow-up, too.

My frustration with this clinic involves paying up front before any procedures/checkup and unorganized staff. For the last 4 days, my dog's been in the clinic to stay. The amount of stress my family's gone through has been tiresome. I'm not pleased with how the clinic didn't call me the same night for my dog's canceled drainage tube, but call me the next day which required my dog to stay another night costing another amount of money only to add $150 for sedation in order for the tube to go inside of her to drain out liquid. Their reason for not calling was they didn't want to disturb my family during the middle of the night. However, owners pay a lot of money along with caring about their pets whom are a part of family. I expect to get notified of any issues immediately. The vets there have such random numbers for their estimated bills. One would state $100. Another could state $300 for the same thing. It makes absolutely no sense. I gave this clinic 2/5 based on one particular great Vet in Dr. Andrew Toma who provided my family exceptional care and information. He wrote everything down on his papers, including our complains about the clinic. Other vets never did that. If others plan to bring their loved pets to this clinic, I would always recommend Dr Toma.

Kindness and competency in the face of an emergency! Even though you might have to wait a while, because of the nature of emergencies, the wait is absolutely worth it. The staff are kind and compassionate. The vet was very thorough. He was well-informed about treatment options, after-care, possible complications, and long-term care once the immediate crisis is resolved. Thank you so much for caring so well for my fur-baby! ❤️

JoshB120

Literally have been waiting for 3 hours already, still sitting here and waiting for results for my cats bloodwork which apparently only the doctor can deliver and none of the 4 vet techs that they have !!!! Theres only one doctor in this whole place. The receptionist is extremely rude and the prices are unbelievably high. Do not go here !

This is being written after the second time we have had to use this hospital for an emergency. Both times the staff were caring, professional, efficient, and helpful. The care and treatment of both our cat and dog were, at each visit, excellent and responsive. I never once felt I was given poor treatment or bad information. In the past, in other treatment facilities, I have felt like I was pushed into spending more than I could, and a forced into agreeing to expensive treatments I didn't understand. At this hospital I was given the exact opposite. The doctor worked with me to provide the best treatment he could, within my available budget. He also fully explained what each treatment was, why it was necessary, and what could be safely eliminated to reduce the cost. This clinic is exceptional and I would highly recommend it.

My overall experience with this clinic was +5/5. My dog ingested a large amount of chocolate ...from my initial inquiry call at 1 am to Paige, to our dealing with the tech Brittany and the very compassionate & knowledgeable doctor. They were very attentive and hands-on from the moment we walked in. My dog was treated very well. All the staff we encountered were beyond nice. They did not try to gauge or push unnecessary treatments either, which was a huge relief. I would highly recommend this emergency clinic.

I called them after midnight as I was concerned about my dog who had puppies. The person I spoke to was excellent both in information and compassion. I was so impressed at it was clear this person was working from the best interest of the puppies and mom rather than from making a quick buck. I am so thankful. Way to go, I will feel way better using you if I need an emergency vet. Everyone I know has animals, I will pass the word.

Took my one cat there and they were very helpful. Since we been home and I have given her the pain medication I was given because my dad couldn’t afford to pay more than he did as the x ray was $300 they said keep eye on her etc and and bring back if no change or she worsens. She’s been slowly hearing back to her old self. I was really upset and scared and they made me feel better because they were there to help and understood

I arrived there to drop off my dead cat for cremation...while standing at the door in -27 degree weather carrying my dead cat I rang the doorbell, the reception pointed to the sign for me to call fortunately I had my cell phone with me which is not always the case... I dialed the number and finally get an answer...she hung up on me when I mentioned I was standing outside with my dead cat...I waited outside the door for a further 10 mins with no acknowledgement from the receptionist inside. I then walked back to my car as my hands were frozen and I was in pain. I started my car and called them again... For a veterinary clinic they are lacking in compassion and were unwilling to respond to my distress at loosing my cat until they charged my credit card to have my cat cremated.

Lana Lenore

A bit of a wait, but well-explained. Dr. Bevans communicated very well, outlined our options and provided effective treatment. The vet tech Erica was calm and competent and a good teacher so we could continue our beloved geriatric cat's treatment at home.

Absolutely unreal here! Their service and kindness is amazing and makes you feel calm during any situation. Brought both my dogs here in the past. They were treated amazing and put back in good health! Also, with any concerns at home I have I call them and reception let’s me speak to the doctor to make sure everything is okay. They are the best! Xo

Triple check any medication given. My cat was prescribed buprenorphine (a narcotic). The vet prescribed her 0.08mL for her weight and what was given to me to take home was 0.8mL. This is 10x the dose she was prescribed. Yes, they managed to catch this and called me a couple hours after I got home but I could only imagine what would have happened if they didn’t and I gave the entire dose to my cat.

Unless you have pet insurance, requiring an emergency visit to a vet is going to be expensive. I think people need to understand that. We called as we were driving and they were ready as soon as we arrived. They explained everything and answered questions. They gave us privacy when we had to figure out how to pay for the visit. We were allowed to call anytime to get updates. And they phoned us with updates. And most importantly our cat was cared for and diagnosed correctly. He was treated well and he is doing well. That's what is important to us.

Mike Galway

Came in for emergency services when my dog was hit by a car. Waited for a radiologist to read the results in our car from 7pm until 2am! Then since they were closing we were transferred to a actual 24 hour vet! Horrible service! Do not go here ever! Not a actual emergency vet. Just want your money!

Kelsey Gordon

Brought my kitten in with a swollen eye and face, was sent home with eyedrops but had to take him to a second vet the next day. He had a severe ear mite infection that the emergency vet failed to diagnose, the exam was not thorough at all considering it was 175$. On top of that I received several pitches about their monthly payment program which I didn't appreciate.

I had to take my dog in tonight and the service was straightforward. The one major complaint I have is the fact that there is absolutely no other way to pay for services other than right there in person. You would think that this being an EMERGENCY vet hospital they would have MORE ways for people to pay for their services. I was here last year for an emergency with the same dog and had to have my sister put part of the bill on her visa, which they did with absolutely no problem whatsoever, she went online and paid for it directly ONLINE...and now, tonight my bill was over $400.00 and I only had $300.00 at the time and was going to get my sister to put the rest on the credit card like last time.... well that was an absolute no go because according to the extremely bitchy and rude desk lady... their procedures have changed and you can no longer do this... so I had to pay for what I could and take my dog home WITHOUT ANY MEDICATION only because there was NO OTHER WAY TO PAY FOR IT!! So I have my dog, who has an infection, and needs medication, yet I cant pay for it because there is no way for this so called emergency hospital to accept payment over the phone or on line. Absolutely unreal that seeing that this is an emergency vet there would be no other way to pay for services. Your procedures NEED to change and fast before you start losing business because of it. I am extremely disappointed that any vet would allow an animal that is in need of medication to suffer because they cant accept payment on line or over the phone. Absolutely disgusted and extremely disappointed in this emergency hospital. Procedures NEED TO CHANGE TO ACCOMADATE YOUR CUSTOMERS!!!

We had to take our little dog into vet emerg to be put down on Boxing day 2020. The staff were absolutely amazing. Isa and doctor Anthony Saad were so compassionate and caring. We can't thank them enough while we were going through this difficult time, would recommend them to anyone. Thank you again. -Teresa, Gary and Kelsey

I brought my beloved cat here after a tragic and ultimately fatal accident. While I was a complete wreck I found the staff to be compassionate, and the vet was very honest and realistic about outcome and treatment. Although understandable, covid protocol did make the visit a lot more stressful.

Kimberley Turpin

My experience here was excellent! My dog injured his back leg. I called the clinic to let them know I was on my way, I was nervous because my big dog could not walk and he is not the best around other dogs. I was so worried about his injury and anticipating the arrival. I was so thankful for the exception service that I received. When I arrived 2 people came out to help me get him out of my vehicle, they even offered to bring a stretcher.... was cute! They brought him in and kept me informed while giving him all the love and care that they could have. My dog was thoroughly examined and the issue was address accordingly. The price at the end was NOT unreasonable, especially considering the fact that it just had to happen on a Sunday evening. Completely happy and would highly recommend!! ~ Bentley's Mom

I got a panicked phone call from my sister on January 19, 2021 at about 5 pm. She told me her dog just had a seizure and she was turned away from the emergency vet. She was overwhelmed so I told her I would call around to try to find a vet that would help her. I called VCA not knowing this was the vet that just turned her away. The person on the phone was incredibly rude, condescending, and not helpful. I then called Pulse Veterinary in Sherwood Park and the phone call I had was night and day difference. The person was so kind and helpful and walked me through what my sister needed to do. I noticed that the majority of your negative reviews mention a rude receptionist and I will echo these statements. She should realize that a little bit of compassion would go a long way, especially when someone is extremely stressed about their sick animal. In the future I would never go to this vet and instead would go to Pulse Veterinary based on this interaction alone.

I had brought my 2 year old dog in because she had stopped eating. She ended up needing IV fluids, antibiotics and pain killers due to an infection in her tooth. The vet that first helped me was okay, he wasn't overly friendly but he explained everything, and made the right decisions for my dog. She needs a dental procedure, but she also have a heart murmur that has to be investigated before she can go under anesthesia. Our ultrasound appointment isn't for another 2 months, so I have been panicking about what to do about her teeth in the meantime, as I did not want her to begin feeling painful again. I called North Central to see if I could get a refill on her prescription, hoping she can stay on pain meds until the ultrasound is completed and a dental can be booked. I was scared that I would have to pay to see another vet in order to get the refill, but the receptionist (Tara) was very friendly, professional and helpful. She consulted a veterinarian who came on the phone to help me (Dr. Lee Gears, I probably butchered the spelling) who was extremely helpful and friendly. He acknowledged my concerns and provided me with something that no one has been able to give me - assurance that my dog will be taken care of. This second experience has been especially appreciated because while all of this is happening, my other dog is also have veterinary issues - she has a suspected nerve injury, so I've also been caring for and paying for her at the same time. So, I hope I never have another emergency again but if I do, I will definitely be going here.

I would like to express our sincerest thanks to the Doctors and staff of VetEmerg that was involved with my Maine Coon kitten, Sport’s treatment and care. I was extremely impressed with the waiting room size and entire ER was so spotless and calm. They took the time to explain my options and recommended a treatment plan that was comprehensive and showed immediate results. It is a fully staffed emergency hospital that is ready to respond! In saying that, it was very busy at times so it’s expected you may need to wait as they triage the most serious patients first. You will pay more for the service which you should expect being it is maned 24 hours by Doctors, technicians and admin staff. It is well worth the price as you get 24 hour top notch professional care for your pet if they have to be hospitalized like my kitten did! Additionally, they have all the tests and a lab on site so the information is timely given. Several times I called to check up on my kitten to ensure he was doing okay and not once did they make you feel you were bothering them with questions. Lastly, you receive a comprehensive discharge patient’s summation report that explains everything including their medication schedule. If we ever have another emergency, without reservation we would take our cats to VetEmerg!!

Very compassionate and friendly service. Had to bring our senior dog in on a Tuesday evening and was very stressed. The staff were calming, empathetic and direct. Would reccomend them to anyone in an emergency situation.

I will start this out with the staff was friendly and the vet was nice and both were very soft in a difficult time. However I brought my dog in to emergency because something was very wrong with herm the prices they charged knowing my back would be against the wall was anything but understanding. For me to see the vet, do a x-ray, find out my dog was needing to be put down they charged me out the ying yang for her end of life I paid more in one night then I did in two years of vet check ups. I highly do not recommend this clinic, I would shop around the other clinics if you have time and if you don't I would still go to another one or your own. Its really horrible when they know they have you cornered emotionally that they take full advantage of it. Shame on you!

Excellent emergency hospital. Really appreciate the triaging. Very happy to wait while sicker animals were seen first. Thank you to the administrative assistants, vet techs, students and vets.

I would leave 0 stars if possible. First trip here was with my cat who was dying of cancer. The vet was kind, the front desk staff was abysmal. I told them finances were tight and just euthanasia was going to be more than I could really …

The staff were amazing and professional! Treated my pooch with the utmost care and gave me updates throughout. I can’t put into words how fantastic they were with me and with my fur-baby. Words can’t express how grateful I am to VCA North.

So we came there, the staff are very friendly but the price is too high! They just run some vital test and it will cost you $139 + tax, i ended up paying $206 for the injection that they gave for my puppy. For the xray and vital test it will cost you 400 + tax.

Came here as a last resort as all other vets were closed for the long weekend. They were accommodating but the long wait times were a bit of a drag. We waited 3-4 hours the first night and then another 1-2 hours for the 24 hour recheck. Prices are a little on the high side as well, but if you have no other options you'll be glad that they are open.

Very disappointed to have to come to this clinic. There was no compassion towards our small dog for an emergency eye surgery. We were given an option of $3,500 for the surgery or to put her down. Waited until Monday to visit our regular vet while taking care or our injured puppy, and paid $390 for the same procedure. She alive and well now... but we almost put her down because of this place.

Brought my pup here and all the Doctors and techs are great. Yes it’s an emergency hospital prices are higher because they have doctors and techs on all day and night. You can call and get updates whenever you want. I would recommend them to anyone that is in need of an emergency.

RUDE, UNCARING RECEPTIONIST. GREEDY MONEY HUNGRY VET!! I’ve taken my small dog here 2 times already.. the first time he was attacked by another dog which left his nose hanging off. They WOULD NOT tend to him until they received FULL payment which was just over $600 I was short $100 crying to the vet saying my sister was on her way with the rest he still wouldn’t touch my dog. It made me sick to my stomach. Recently my dog was attacked again I ran in there because it was the only place I could think of. He was lifeless in my arms and BEFORE THEY WOULD HELP HIM she came to me with papers saying there’s a cost. I told her I didn’t care just help him. She repeated herself saying “anything has a cost” my dog died that day... may he Rest In Peace. DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMALS HERE!!

Rebecca Anderson

The staff are incredibly disorganized. The lady was supposed to give me a refund since they made me pay in advance for food they already get at the clinic and then they called me to tell me it’s on back order and to get my refund, I go there and the woman tells me she can’t process it without a manager, after making me waste time driving there in the snow. Terrible service and the staff are really complacent and don’t like doing any work.

My 20 year old cat had to go in on a Sunday to VetEmerg, not only where they quick but they were kind and compassionate. She ended up having to be put down and gave us all the time we wanted with her and the Vet was very helpful with all …

Suzanne, the receptionist, was extremely rude throughout my entire experience. I called in before I came and her tone of voice and condescending attitude made me feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. I had no other choice because this was the only facility open near me and my dog had just ate chocolate. Without asking us if it was okay or giving us an option, they added an extra cost to our bill for something that my dog could have gone without. When my dog came out of the treatment area, he was covered with black charcol all over his head, face, mouth, and legs... he is a goldendoodle and so the colour was extremely apparent all over his fur. I asked the nurse why he was covered like this and the nurse said “because he’s not a well-behaved dog” with an extremely rude tone. This was a horrible experience for myself but also my dog who was visibly shaken by the experience and spent the night crying & barking which he never normally does.

We took our dog here when she broke her leg. They did the surgery and fixed her leg so that's great however we ended up paying $1500 more than they quoted us with no warning or explanation. When my girlfriend visited our puppy after surgery she noticed that her area was filthy and she had urine and feces on her near her stitches. When she pointed this out they handed her the supplies to clean it herself. While she is a medic and completely capable it was extremely unprofessional. I can only hope that if our dogs ever need emergency care again it's within our own vets working hours.

We had the very unfortunate and heartbreaking experience of having to put our sweet little dog down. The staff were supportive and professional, even though we were both a terrible mess. I appreciate the staff that were in last Sunday. They absolutely know what they are doing both professionally and in terms of customer service. Just wish we still had her around. Thanks again. Regarding other reviews about "profiting off of pain": Buildings, staff, supplies, and operations aren't free. I'm more than fine that they are compensated for their time and work. That is how the world works and I commend them for taking such a difficult career. This is an ER for animals that stays open around the clock. It's not a cheap place to run, let alone do everything for free.

Took my dog this afternoon. Very thorough examination, and reasonable costs for an emergency room visit on a Sunday. Staff were very nice and knowledgeable. Thanks again.

Took my cat Bruce in at 10:30pm on a Monday and waited to get the results. Upon arriving my boyfriend and I were greeted and treated with respect. Paige at the front desk was amazing at her job and cared so much about everyone and their animals. As they operate the same way as a regular hospital, the animals that had a more severe issue were treated first so we waited a while to see a vet. When we say the vet, she was very up front about everything and told us our options and the potential consequences. My boyfriend and I appreciated this as we wanted to know what we were dealing with. After being given three options, all at various price points, we chose the option to have him stay at the vet overnight for 48 hours. While he was there we were able to call and ask for updates whenever we wanted and we actually talked to the vet or vet technician. They did not get annoyed with you if you called multiple times and you were even allowed to visit your animal whenever you wanted. When our cat was discharged, they explained the medications we had to give him at home very thoroughly and addressed all of our concerns. Overall, this terrible experience of having a sick animal was made bearable by the amazing staff. I highly recommend taking your pet here, but keep in mind, animals that are in a more emergency situation will go ahead of you. Thank you for all you did for our Bruce!!

This is possibly the best Veterinary Clinic in Alberta. We live in Northern Alberta and have always brought our animals here for any of their surgeries. They are super professional and are very good at explaining what they surgery entails along with the possible outcomes. Once the surgery is completed they are very good at explaining in simple terms how you should proceed with recovery. I give them 5 Stars because they have the best and are prepared for any surgery that your animal may require with the most positive results.

I have called 3 times over the last 2 days for 2 different issues and the phone just rings and rings with no answer. For an emergency clinic it should would be nice if they ANSWERED THEIR PHONE. Even tried to call them to discuss this concern with them, but guess what? They didn't answer. Again. And no answering machine, it just keep ringing... Maybe someone who works there could give this a read and try to make an improvement.

I took my ailing dog in June 28th at 5:30 am. They made me pay for 24 hrs of hospitalization plus meds and other stuff up front. After about 10 hours of my dog being there all they did was give her an x-ray and blood tests. Then called me and told me they can’t do anything for her and I have to take her to another animal hospital Then they tried to charge me the full 24 hours of hospitalization. After being admitted my dog was only there for 10 hours I agreed to pay for 12 hours. They then sent me an invoice on June 28th saying they owe me $220.20, after calling them I was told to come in the next to to get the cash because that’s how I paid. Next day I show up to get the cash only to be told they will not give me cash and will be sending a check in the mail. Fast forward to July 23 still no check I call to ask about it. I was told the check has been sent and if I don’t receive it buy aug 1st to call them back. Now on aug 4th I call again asking about my check only to b told they didn’t write the check until July 30th 31days after I was told they would write it. In conclusion they took 10 hours to do a 3 hour job at most which resulted in them doing nothing for my dog. Tried to over charge me, and has taken well over a month to refund me which I still have not received. If you need to take your animal to a hospital I highly recommend u stay away from this place and would refer you to pulse specialist and veterinarian hospital in Sherwood park they ended up saving my dogs life and gave me cash back on the spot when I picked her up.

THIS PLACE WILL LITERALLY KILL YOUR PET AND THEN STEAL YOUR MONEY!

My dog had emergency surgery this weekend to remove a 2LB mass and his spleen. The staff here were amazing!! They made us feel at ease during a very stressful few days. I have nothing but great things to say about all the staff here! Thank you for taking such good care of my pup!

Thank you very much to the North Central Animal Hospital and Dr. Anthony for their care and compassion during the euthanasia of my beloved cat. The doctor was clear, caring, and explained the process very well. They have a lovely room for you to say your final goodbyes and a number of keepsake options available.

Went in on July 14th puppy had ingested something she shouldn't have, the girls knew right away what to do, kept me in the loop, i knew puppy was in good hands and felt no judgement. Erica and Amanda are the names I remember but the whole crew Dr to front desk, thank you! n and out in 2hrs and with a recovered puppy at home.

Nicole Turner

My niece's dog needed emergency dental surgery, but we needed to get some of the infection down first. A few days later, she had 12 teeth removed and is now a happy, healthy dog. We are pleased overall with the service we received. Tara was extremely professional. Kendra certainly knows her business. We felt very comfortable and confident leaving our precious one with her and the rest of the staff. I would highly recommend this clinic. Thank you.

Boxing day. My cat was 17 yrs old. I think fixing her up would not end up being good for the cat. This was the hardest decision my wife and I made together in our twelve yrs. All through this from the lady at the front desk to the nurses out back and the wonderful vet. The professional but understanding staff were all top notch. They were not after money, they actually cared about my family member. Thank you guys and the Christmas card was wonderful!

Took my little Chip to the emergency last night around 11:00PM as my dog ate something and made him sick. I was pretty emotional because I had to leave him overnight at the hospital and Dr. Ahmed Basha treated me with so much empathy and had amazing service. He was extremely knowledgeable and accommodated me to the best of his ability. He was very sympathetic to my tears and made me feel so comfortable. I also want to say Paige that works at the front desk is absolutely fantastic. She as well was so sympathetic to my feelings and really made me feel comfortable and assured me that my dog will be in great hands. I am so grateful for all staff members here as I have never felt more comfortable in a public facility in my life. Thank you so so much❤️

Lana Casey

Worst clinic I have ever personally been too we brought our two year old cat in who was in renal failure and after they took her told us we had 5 minutes to choose euthanasia or not they inserted a catheter in her arm that was not even in a vein and then price gouged us. I ended up taking my cat and leaving due to their lack of compassion and horrible customer service I wouldn’t recommend bringing any furry family member here I wouldn’t even recommend bringing your pet rock. If I could give 0 stars I would to the business I hope you guys grow a heart and get better or shut down.

Dejan Hursin

One star would not do justice, I would give negative stars if I could. My visit started with a rude receptionist, who continually repeated "this is not part of my job." I really wanted to know what her job was? Then the Vet explained much of the procedure that was done to my puppy, which was a little confusing. We were told to do many things then we found out some of it was not needed, and we were able to expose them on this. Following this, we were paying and were told there was a low and high price. The Vet never explained this and the receptionist once again exclaimed "it's not my job" with a very rough undertone. At the end, our bill was $350 something, then $100 was tacked as per the high billing rules. But we were told that they made an error with the price per unit for one of our items but that was explained by the high bill. This made zero sense because the high bill should account for new or emergency procedures, that may or may not be needed depending on the puppy. The high bill SHOULD NOT include human error and I highly believe we were scammed out of the $100. Do not go here if you want to be treated like a terrible customer or if you want to be confused. Learn customer service.

In all honesty I would need a 100 star rating to be accurate on the care we received for our puppy Gracie over this past weekend. From the admin support through the medical team and up to the general manager Talia we had been presented wit extreme professionalism from the staff. As well as so much empathy from everyone on the concern we had for our Gracie. Three doctors spoke with us during our stay and each one covered everything from reiterating what the symptoms were and events that lead up to us coming in, what the testing was that they would like to do with explanation why (all options presented to us), and full explanation step by step of the treatment plan. Once that was done they kindly pointed out options for payment as well gave us options to look into for financing. Not one thing was not left uncovered. And we were always asked if we understood and if we need more explanation on anything discussed. During our stay the staff was so accommodating to us even providing us with a room to sit with our puppy and care for her while she was receiving treatment. At no time did we feel that this facility was lacking in filling the needs of our pet and our needs as a pet owner. We were treated with the upmost respect and that respect was extended to Gracie, we felt genuinely cared for and offered anything that would help us be more comfortable while we were there. When we were able to leave with Gracie we had been reassured by numerous staff that if we had any questions please call back and that the team would be there for us if we needed to return with our puppy. 100 STAR RATING for this amazing team!
