Unfortunately, had a terrible experience here. My dog Bentley had what looked to be a lingering infection of some sort (perhaps a uti). After twice submitting urine samples we were given two separate scripts for 5 day antibiotics. There was no followup. We went to another vet who suggested $1500 worth of xrays and an ultrasound. Months later we found Dr Overgaard (now retired) who after doing urine, blood and an ultrasound for a VERY reasonable price said Bentley was in advanced kidney failure. He died shortly after. It was not Dr Sim, but another attending staff here who did not seem to know what to do. I understand veterinary medicine can be difficult as the patient cannot describe the problem. But, I do feel had we caught this early enough we could have changed Benny's diet and lifestyle to help him live longer. He was only 7.

We took our cat to Sims to figure out what was troubling her, fully convinced the problem was something relatively easy to fix, a UTI or something of that nature. However, after an examination it became pretty clear there was more going on than that, and x-rays confirmed the worst. We were shown great compassion by the staff, and Abby treated with such tenderness that what could have been an appalling situation was made tolerable. These folks are very good at making pets and their people feel cared for and respected.

They don't fill you full of false hopes so you will spend money on hopeless procedures so they can make more money off you, while your pet and you suffers, like some other Kingston vets do

This is the best animal hospital I have ever been to. The staff are all so friendly and knowledgeable. They recognize me when I walk through the door and I'm always greeted with a smile. In terms of the vets, I've taken my rats to see Dr. Corbin, who is one of the best vets I have ever worked with. She is amazing at her job! She has amazing compassion and sympathy for the worried owners of the animals she's treating. She is very upfront and honest but always takes the emotions of the owners into account. She even called me herself to speak to me after one of my rats had to be euthanized at another vet after hours. She called just to check in and make sure I was okay and reassured me that I had done the right thing for my rat. It's very hard to find a good, well trained, knowledgeable exotics vets and I struck gold when I found Dr.Corbin. I tell everyone I know about Sims and Dr.Corbin and encourage everyone to take their pets there. And yes they can be a bit expensive but so can any other vet hospital. So why not spend your money on quality care and compassionate staff? I'm going to be transfering my cat's file over to Sims very soon! Thank you Sims animal hospital and thank you Dr.Corbin you folks are amazing!

I have been torn about putting up this review for awhile now. My dog was a client at Sims for over a year and, at first, I had nothing but positive things to say. They are expensive, for sure, but I always felt confident that my dog was receiving good treatment. Then I ended up being assigned to a newer vet at Sims and only ever saw her from that point on. When my Lily developed a droopy eye, the vet made jokes about how she looked "drunk"...no part of me found her condition funny. When my Lily had all sorts of strange growths happening in her body and I wanted them biopsied I was met with an eye roll and a "yeah, that will be fun"...I deserved compassion, not mockery. Though my dog was pre-Cushings, she was given a heavy dose of steroids that pushed her over the edge and she quickly developed an itchy skin condition that plagued her until her death in February...with no acknowledgement from Sims that they had messed up. I ended up changing vets and my Lily had three months of kind, compassionate care at Kingston Mills. I was going to leave my Sims experience behind me. However, soon after my Lily died in February, I received a notice from Sims that it was time for Lily's rabies shot. I emailed them to let them know that Lily had sadly passed away and asked them to update their records. I never heard back. How genuinely do they care about the animals they treat if they simply ignore their deaths because their owner decided to change vets? It was the final straw and now I am leaving this review. Sims gives generally good, expensive care, but ultimately I am left with the clear impression that their care for the animals runs only as deep as your pockets.

Been a client for years... After today never again. As we walked in, who we assume was a vet tech was very rude. Asking us what we needed so we informed her that we needed a flea treatment. Instead of maybe asking us for our name her first question was if we were even existing clients. Long story short we couldn't get her a treatment apparently because it's been just over a year since she's been seen. We provide excellent care for all our animals and have never spared any expenses however we will not deal with a practice that is obviously judgemental and lies about the vet-client relationship clause that exists to dispense over the counter medication. Would much rather start a new client vet relationship with a practice that sees people and animals as just that people and animals and not $$$$ signs.

I would highly recommend this clinic to anyone. Dr. Sims is simply FANTASTIC. She is diligent, exceedingly competent, and cares deeply about her job and the animals in her care. And, she's a wonderful person and lovely to talk to to boot! My cat (Chairman Meow) has a consistent issue with struvites, and often requires kennelling at a clinic for urine tests and the like. In the past, this has been very stressful for the poor chap, but with Dr. Sims, these visits were different. Chairman was rarely stressed to visit Dr. Sims, and when he was required to stay overnight, he came back in high spirits. The entire staff clearly cared deeply about him, and it showed. I especially found Dr. Sims and her team to be sensitive around euthanizing pets. I had one appointment booked, and the office called and asked to reschedule as another family was required to put their pet down at the same time. The staff had a strong desire to support that family as much as possible, while also ensuring others like Chairman got the best possible care. This is just one example of this team's commitment to excellent care.

Best Vet Ever!!! I adopted my kitten Lister from another of Dr. Sims' clients through the clinic. Since then, they have treated Lister as though he were a member of their family. Their prices are very reasonable and the level of care is out of this world. Each time Lister has had shots or medication, they've phoned the next day to check up on him. They even sent me a hand-written thank you note after Lister's first visit. They put your pet first. Lister and Ebby highly recommend Sims Animal Hospital :)

All of the vets and staff here were compassionate and used evidence based practice. They helped me to raise a three month old puppy who was energetic and always getting into mischief. Dr. Corbin and Dr. Morrin always spent so much time with me working on strategies to keep him healthy and out of trouble. He is now one excellent boy. My older dog is palliative and they spent time with me when she would need extra care. The receptionists were able to get her in the same day to be examined when she was sick. Dr. Sims was so caring with her and myself. I went to the vet clinic many times when I was in Kingston and am so grateful for all of their help. You really do get the highest quality of care at Sims Animal Hospital.

The staff were wonderful to me as my cat passed away in the examining table. This was not an euthanasia procedure. The cat had been lethargic and vomiting and an appointment was given right away. I had looked online for a vet in the area as I am new to Kingston. The 4.9 % reviews convinced me that Sim's was the vet I needed to call. Upon arrival I was ushered into the examining room immediately. The Dr. Heather Sims and assistant (I did not get her name) offered to wrap the cat up for me to take home to bury. The kindness was unbelievable. I would recommend this business highly to anyone I know.

This is the best exotic vet in town. They care so so much about the pets you bring to them. I have rats, and my Ava was taken such good care of when she was sick. And when I had to bring her to have her put down... This exotic vet also costs 3x less then kingstons other exotic vet

Highly recommend this vet practice, and Dr. Morrin in particular. We had a year long struggle with one of our greyhounds trying to get his sudden, debilitating seizures under control. She was amazing, knowledgeable, and willing to research when she had to (greyhounds have an odd physiology). The story doesn't have a happy ending unfortunately, but Dr. Morrin gave her all for him. The staff were so helpful throughout the process, and extremely kind and respectful when the end finally came. They're also very good with our other dog, who is terrified of the vets.

Dr Heather Sims is one of the most compassionate, caring and warm people I have ever met. And, she is truly a wonderful vet. She and her staff clearly love animals and go above and beyond. A few months ago my elderly father's very old cat became ill. We explored all the possible scenarios and options until we agreed we had reached a defining moment. As heartbreaking as it was for my father to say goodbye to his adored companion, he knew it was time. Heather handled the situation with so much love, compassion and empathy, that six months later I still feel tears welling. There is nothing about this vet practice that is 'factory/assembly line' mentality. It's about the animals. Thank you Heather and all at Sims Animal Hospital for all of your many kindnesses and generosity of time and spirit to my father and his beloved, and still very much missed, Icicle. I live 350kms away from Sims Animal Hospital and I schedule appointments for both my dogs to coincide with my visits to Kingston just so they can benefit from the extraordinary care provided by Dr Sims and her team.

Sims Animal Hospital - Synonymous with caring, competent, empathetic, thorough. We have received nothing but exemplary service of the highest professional standard from Heather Sims and her staff. The only negative review I've seen may have been motivated by the acute grief that sometimes accompanies the loss of a dear family pet. Failing that, it was likely the "sour grapes" of someone too cheap to compensate "in kind" for the outstanding service they undoubtedly received from a highly skilled professional who's 6 years of intensive training as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine rivals that of his/her family doctor.
