Today was my first time bringing my ball python in. My snake is currently sick with a respiratory infection and I've been worried sick about him. I mixed my dates up and came a day early, but they accomdated us and saw him. He was checked out by Sabrina Cirone who really knew what she was doing. She taught me how to inject him with his antibiotics. She was very thorough and made sure to go over his husbandry, temps and humidity. We recently switched over to a snake rack and have been having issues keeping up the humidity - which in turn caused him to get sick ???? Now all has been rectified with a lot of tweaking, but It was super nice that Sabrina was very knowledgeable on reptiles. I will definitely be going back to see her again if something should arise with my reptiles in the future. Thank you Cavan Hills and especially, Sabrina for taking the time to see us.

I absolutely LOVE Cavan Hills Vet!! I have 3 kitties! Two got snipped wonderfully by them and my 3rd kitty suddenly collapsed one day, we took him in and they made him better in less than a half hour. We thought he was going to die, the staff was super understanding even through tears! He has a disease called stomatitis and poor little guys teeth were rotting out! Thankfully even through the pandemic, Cavan Hills Vet has been there for us! The technician even got ahold of me to make sure I understood what needed to happen and sent emails with more info! I recommend Cavan Hills Vet to everyone I know. Forever knowing my pets are in loving care there ❤️ thank you for being there always!

We recently had an emergency late at night with my dog and Cavan Hills was the only place open at that time so we rushed in. Our experience was great, staff was friendly and answered all my questions. I ended up having to leave my dog there overnight and was called first thing in the morning with an update. I was also encouraged to call through the night if I felt the need to check in, which was very comforting. Ill be coming back for-sure (hopefully not due to an emergency next time though lol).

I have been going to this clinic ever since I rescued my kittens, I haven't had one bad experience with them. They are so passionate about what they do and so caring about the animals they are looking after. They even call me just to check up on my kitten and make sure shes feeling better! I called the clinic to find out what i should do with my dog, if I should bring him in as he was in contact with a rabid racoon that I had shot after my pet dragged him back to my yard from the field.....they have no clue!!! Gave me the number to the federal food safety office and told me to call them....!!!!! This was the long weekend!!!! I'm completely and utterly frustrated with this place......thats the best they could come up with, when I asked to speak with the vet the receptionist told me they were busy taking care of emergancies....and this isn't!!!! after 15 years and three dogs taking them there being blown off when my pet was exposed to rabies was the ultimate in disgrace for this place!!!!

Excus Letter of complaint Nov 19,2020 Attn: Richard Maser On October 31/2020 I had tried several times to get through to your company “Cavan Hills” to seek medical treatment for my 5yr old lab. Sophie had shown zero signs of discomfort we had been playing fetch that morning. However, I had noticed spots of blood on the floor. To which I thought she was in heat again. As the morning went on the amount of blood was increasing. So, I immediately reached out to Cavan Hills as she has been a patient there in the past. Sophie has been seen several times for skin issues and vaccines. After speaking to someone, being put on hold, being hung up on. I was finally told to bring her in for 1320hr. Keep in mind Sophie was on the list with the SPCA because I felt my care towards her was challenged by your office on fees. To be fixed however her appointment was cancelled due to Covid-19. To which I communicated with them on a regular basis to see if they were preforming surgeries to which they were not. I arrived at Cavan Hills to which they took Sophie into the back room by herself without out me being able to accompany her. To which felt like forever as I sat at the front waiting. Dr.David Good was the doctor treated her. Dr. Good told me that she had Pyometra and that it was serious and needed surgery to remove her uterus. I was terrible upset as she was my best friend. I inquired on what it was going to cost. At to which time he has the quote drawn up. I explained to one of the girls that I would not be able to afford a huge vet bill she ensured me not to worry that things will workout. When Dr.David Good return with the quote I was floored I could feel myself ready to vomit. The quote was $ 3135.75- 4047.55. I could not grasp the amount that was being asked and known that my Sophie was so sick. I asked to go and use the phone to call someone. Which I left the office and went outside. It was then I had to think about the difficult decision on having her put down. I then return and said I could afford to pay that amount to one of the female staff I was beyond a emotional mess. (had other customers coming up to me giving sympathy) Keeping in mind that I still have not seen Sophie as she was remaining in the back room without me. Dr.David Good came back in the room and saying he could try and call the owners to see what he could do but it wouldn’t be anywhere close to the amount that I was able to pay, or that I could apply for a pet loan through a company. My partner called me back and spoke to Dr.Good over the phone at which time Dr.Good explained it to him as well. My partner was on his way to be with me for support and to make the decision together. I explained to Dr. Good that I was going to wait out in my car until he arrived and that I was going to have Sophie put down due to the pricing being outrageous. I rescued Sophie from an abusive family when my X husband and I split after 20years of marriage, she was not just a dog I was about to lose my best friend. My dog went everywhere with me including to work as a therapy dog for Individuals with special needs. Sophie pulled me out of some dark moments in my life. ** While I was waiting outside Dr.Good came out to my car and made me a offer that was merely disgusting and unprofessional** In his words “ one of the vet techs will take her over so she can have the surgery then at least it will save her life” Who in there right mind would offer this to someone who is already a emotional mess. So, your employees would have done the surgery for free just because she is employed there and then she gets to keep my best friend and the most smartest dog ever due to my training. 1. If your vet tech cannot handle some difficult decisions that are being made that she should not be a vet tech. 2. If you take your car to the shop to be fix and you cannot afford it. Does the mechanic tell you to sign over the ownership? Unfortunately, I lost my best friend Oct 31/20 at a fee of almost $700.00 See next my next post!

This was my first visit and a sad one at that. I had my rat put to sleep. I found the staff very friendly and professional. I didn't feel rushed and the doctor took the time to listen to my concerns and explain the procedure thoroughly. This made it so much easier to deal with even though I was bawling my eyes out. The only downside was trying to pay for the euthanasia while blubbering like a baby and having other clients staring at me :( Wish there was a way to avoid that part. But either way I will definitely be returning once I gain a new pet. Thank you!

I would like to thank all of the vets and vet techs that made my experience at Cavan Hills as comfortable as possible. We where kept well aware of the situation throughout and in the end had to make a difficult decision to have little Tangos life end. Cavan Hills got him at his most critical and if it wasn't for the vet previous to them he may have had a chance. I can't thank Cavan Hills enough for all that they tried to do for him. You made both him and I feel very comfortable in his last moments and did not rush us at all. We where given all the time we needed before the end. The staff are knowledgeable, professional & courteous, the facility is clean and the prices are right❗ This veterinary hospital will be a service I continue to use.

This place is amazing! Very friendly and good at what they do. Not expensive compared to others. We brought our dog to Belleway Animal Hospital and he was there for 7 hours. The vet told us we had to pick him up because they were closing and that we needed to bring him directly to an emergency vet. We paid $600 and he was handed back to us the same way he was brought to them. We brought him to Caven Hills at 8:30pm and he was fixed within 20 minutes and it cost $100. Should've brought him there first but it's 1.5 hours away and we didn't realize how bad our normal vet would be. Very much recommend Caven Hills!

My daughter took her 15 year old well cared for dog here as it was after hours and her regular vet doesn't offer after hours service...her dog, Jenna, couldn't walk and was whimpering in pain. They kept her overnight and ran a number of tests on Jenna but came up with nothing. Many of the tests, like one for her eyes, had nothing to do with the problem. 24 hours later, they sent her home in the same condition or worse still without a diagnosis. A vet was supposed to call my daughter and they never did...nor did they send the test results as promised to the regular vet. My daughter's regular vet diagnosed the problem immediately...the prognosis was that at 15, Jenna couldn't survive the surgery necessary and my daughter put her to sleep. Jenna suffered needlessly for a day and Cavan Vet Services got $1500.00 out of my daughter, taking advantage of a pet owner who would do anything to help their dog.

Horrible experience. My pup had an operation there. They gave him meds that are hard on the stomach even though I told them he has a sensitive stomach. When I picked him up he was covered in his own fecal matter. My poor boy was severely sick after his procedure. He couldn't stop vomiting and having diarrhea.alot of people I know have taken their pets there and have had horrible experiences. I wish they would have told me before I went there. I will not he back and I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy.

I've always liked the vets at this establishment they are wonderful .My reason for a 4 star is because I had an appoint ment at 640pm for my sick pet and ended up waiting till 745 b4 being seen. That's not reasonable to me to be kept waiting that lenght of time with an animal that's I'll.

Called and made an appointment. Showed up. Waited 2hrs before they even looked at us. Brought other people in that came in after us with no appointment first. Could hear the girls laughing and joking around in the back while we were waiting. Nothing being done. We had to be up in a few hours for work and they didn’t seem to care. Basically wasted our time. Didn’t really accomplish anything with our visit either besides taking our money.

Staff here are friendly however if you have an appointment, plan to wait an hour or more for your pet to be seen. Our dog has been dealing with an eye issue for the past couple of months, so we have had to bring her in several times for tests etc. Every time it’s been a very long wait for an appointment. They seem very unorganized, which could be what’s affecting their efficiency. We have taken our dog here since she was a puppy, it’s unfortunate to see the decline in what used to be good service over our last 5 visits. We are looking for a new vet.

So I went to Cavan Hills for 5 pets for nearly 5 years, But Since this new building began They have become much less friendly, They also want me to do additional tests That They Specifically Have said before were Pointless- And don;t get me started On the phones You Can get thru to A Cell phone Company to cancel your Plan Easier than u can to someone @ cavan Hills. a Monkey could man there phones better. I Am Switching all My pets to a Vet Who Actually Answers the Phones, and who Is In it for the best interests of my pet not there bottom dollar to pay for a Giant new Building.

I recently had to put my 23 year old cat down. Even though she was old and it obviously was going to happen soon, the staff and vets were supportive and caring and it made it a little easier knowing I was leaving her in such great care. Even though it's an Emergency Service vet they'll always try and book you an appointment so you don't have to pay the emergency price. I also received in the mail a sympathy card where all the staff signed it. I thought that was a nice touch.

UnImpressed today waiting an hour and a half to see the Vet had an appointment at 720 i arrived a 710 never was seen till 840 ended up being late an hr for work.. all i needed to get was a booster for my dog thats it when he finally came it was a 5min ordeal, i have 2 dogs that i had bought a health pkg for (almost 1000 dollars for the both of them) now i kind of wish i hadn't :(

I would not recommend this vet to reptile owners. This was the only one near by to take my reptiles to and regret it. Firstly, I made an appointment for 2:20pm and wait almost 2 hours to see the vet. That's absolutely ridiculous. Secondly, the vet did not seem confident in what she was saying. She provided me with the wrong food for my lizard. Leopard geckos strictly eat an insect diet, and I was given a herbivore food. When I asked, they told me the vet couldn't find the correct food so they gave me that one. WHAT THE HECK?! I'm glad I caught it because who knows how it could harm my lizard. Lastly, the prices were ridiculous. So overpriced, and will not be returning.

My sister brought her chinchilla there last night.. and paid a bunch of money to run tests and xrays.. and they said “hes got a little blockage in the intestinal tract” (constipation), gave him medicine, then this morning the chinchilla was dead. They made it seem like it was nothing major.. but CLEARLY IT WAS! The vets here claim to have knowledge of exotic pets... but they do not!

This is an amazing vet hospital! It is worth the drive. They are open 24/7. The prices are super affordable. This is what attracted us to go here. The staff are great and doctors are awesome. We have 3 cats and have taken a litter of kittens here. Would highly recommend to anyone. Book in advance as they are busy.

Much lower than other vets in the area. 24 hour service and they don't jack the prices up if you have a pet emergency on off hours... Same prices 24/7. I have visited this clinic twice in the last month, both on a Friday evening. We had a called ahead the first time as our chihuahua had a swat from a larger dog that punctured his lung and they took him in immediately when we arrived. They were very respectfull and did not push expensive or unnecessary treatments on us. They were a delight to deal with. I took my Collie/husky/Shepard in last week to be xrayed to see if she had any more puppies in there or a blockage they were once again excellent. Also, they called us the next day both times to inquire as to how our pet was doing... Impressive!

A 20 plus year client and sadly will no longer be one. Used to be a great clinic back when the owner actually participated in the practice. Overpriced, uninformative, and only care about your $$$. Every phone call gives you the run around before saying you have to go in. There is no way to get a simple answer on the phone. My pet had multiple tests and prep for surgery when low and behold a simple blood test would have shown my dogs problem. Would have saved me a couple of thousand dollars. No information on after care for a life long condition. Want you to come back with every little question to get more of your money. No pet owner education to speak of and certainly no discussions on how to reduce costs to care for your ill pet. Medications 2x as much as other vets, supplies 2x as much as well. Seem shocked when confronted with that info. High staff turnover means no consistency in care. Despite directly emailing owner about concerns, I've received no response. Just done with it. The personal touch that was so valuable to me no longer exists time to move on.

Absolutely horrible to deal with as a regular vet. After calling several times to get my two cats longterm medication, we had to wait a half hour while they found it. They switched the medication without informing us: it looks different and didnt come split as they are prescribed plus it was double the price! Cash grab at it's best and truly don't seem to care about the customer or animal. Which ultimately, is all we want: to keep our cats healthy and alive. Unless you have a bad emergency, boycott.

On April 20th, I brought my large coonhound golden retriever dog to the hospital with a large infected wound (hot spot) and in quite alot of pain. I was greeted by the most amazing receptionist (not sure of her title) and waited maybe 5 min for Dr Sabrina Cirone to bring us in. She had Berkley eating treats out of her hand and out of any stress that he was previously in. She was very knowledgeable and gentle with my 10 yr old boy and then whisked him away to get cleaned up. Not only did he come back with a little smile, he was wagging his tail. She explained everything to me in a kind and gentle way as I was very upset to see him hurting. She was just a wonderful person and vet. I will be bringing my other dog and cats there this week too. Thank you so very much Dr Sabrina.

Absolutely The Worst Vet Service in Ontario in our Opinion!. We took our Purebred German Shepherd to get treated for a couple of stitches to his eye and ear damage from a dog fight. Made an appointment for 7pm and had to wait 1hr to be discharged as they had forgotten about him!. The total for this total farce of unprofessionalism was almost $700. Then we had to take him back 2 days later because a stitch had ripped and a rancid odour was coming from the damaged treated ear. This time the appointment was for 7pm again ,we were put into a patient room rt away and told the Dr. would be in to see us soon. After waiting 1hr 20mins we inquired and they said the Vet would be another 5 mins so after waiting for another 20 mins we left and took our dog to our own Vet where he was treated for a serious ear yeast infection which they had to treat and that cost us an additional cost of $180 because of there lack of professionalism!. If you truely love your dog as much as we do never take your pet to Cavan Hills Emergency Vet Service on the weekend or any day of the week!. Suggestion: bring your own cone! Our puppy was fixed at Cavan Hills. We were happy to leave her there. The only complaint was the cone she received. It was $13 which we were fine to pay, but it seemed like they had one size for a bunch of dogs. It was way too big for our 11 lbs Cavalier. Dog will need to leave with a cone, but bring your own ahead of time.

Staff is friendly but they charge absolutely ridiculous prices. Vets are often pricey but I brought my cat in who I thought was having a "bathroom issue" causing him pain, making him unable to hold himself up and lethargy. They said it would be upwards of $1700 just to test what could be the matter, than there would be treatment. They proceeded to explain jibberish to me, and concluded with either pay up with 0 payment plan options or put my cat down. At 2am, alone, 7 months pregnant. 2 options given with absolutely no wiggle room.

Fantastic place! I've been going here consistently for some of my rescue kittens, and I've had 4 different vets so far. Each one of them has been absolutely amazing. Knowledgeable, caring, and as accommodating as possible for my situation. These people are not "arrogant," "money hungry," and "rude," as some of these reviews like to say. They have a genuine care for your animals and will do their best to make sure they are providing affordable, awesome care for your beloved pets. I'm on the phone with their receptionists nearly daily to ask stupid questions about the kittens, just out of paranoia, and they never hesitate to help me out and determine what will require visits and what won't, and try to provide me with at home solutions if possible. The most recent vet I had even said he would stand with me against the abusive previous owners of these kittens. Not charging me money, not doing it out of greed. Just a genuine love and care for animals. They have been very accommodating price-wise for me and my S/O, as we are both just students and bills for 3 neglected kitties can become a lot. They'll try their best to waive whichever fees they can while still providing the best care possible. They have been very accommodating for emergency situations as well. If you want people that actually care about you - the customer - as well as your pet, please go here. I cannot recommend them enough!

The vet we saw was wonderful and it's great they are 25/7. We have used their services in the past for emergency csection. For 2019 we have had 2 csection at the clinic one was 450 $ more with zero complications during surgery. The one in January included an xray too. It makes me question the rates once the new clinic is up and running how high the fees will go.

First came to Cavan Hills in 2015 late at night for an emergency. I was shocked to get a quote from the 24 hour emergency vet clinic in Peterborough for a HUGE amount of money that, sadly, would have seen me forced (financially) to let the animal suffer through the night until I could see my regular vet in the morning, as well as seeming very much like preying on pet owners at a very vulnerable time KNOWING that they have little or no other choice but to pay highway robbery prices. In any event ... after sitting at home with suffering cat and thinking about it I remembered passing the Cavan Hills animal hospital many times over the years. I called them and their price was less than HALF what I would have paid at the clinic in Peterborough. We headed immediately to Cavan Hills as they said best to come right now (around midnight) before the vet went into surgery and we'd have to wait longer). All aspects of our visit/encounter at Cavan Hills were handled well. We even returned two days later to adopt a kitten that was living in a cage in the waiting room, after having been abandoned in their parking lot! He is a wonderful cat, and we continue to go to Cavan Hills now as our regular vet, even though we drive by at least 3 other vet offices on the way, because of being happy with the care and service, the very fair/competitive pricing, the hours/availability (24/7), and it isn't more than a 20 minute drive from home in Peterborough (it's a very pleasant drive). My only "criticism" - and I'm sure it is something the staff are already well aware of: The place could certainly do with improved ventilation, as it is very stuffy and stale air in the place. The fans/ventilation that exist need a good cleaning, and new/better ventilation should be installed.

I feel a bit lost going here recently. Spent $650 figuring out why a lymph node is swollen in my cat to hear it's an infection somewhere but offered ZERO treatment. It will "eventually go away" she is an 18 yrs old cat! No different antibiotic or pain medication? Nothing? Let a huge lymph node in her throat just fester? Update: no treatment offered for weeks while the lymph node grew larger and larger. Finally after many needle pokes and a biopsy, they discovered cancer. I was then told they'd remove it. I asked if her teeth could be cleaned at the same time and was told absolutely! 18yr old diabetic cat goes in for surgery and all of a sudden none of the vets feel comfortable removing the lymph node so she had her teeth cleaned and came home to die a few months later. I spent thousands. A few months after, I brought in another cat showing signs of lower back pain and was told to get xrays. I'm told he has an obstruction and to bring him back in a few days for another set of xrays and exam. Next xrays show "obstruction" is moving along but cat is still showing signs of discomfort and inability to walk properly. He had a few exams by the Veterinarians at this clinic and not one of them could figure out he had a SPINAL INJURY?! he was diagnosed by the OWNER of the clinic based off of videos I sent him. I spent another $800 for NOTHING! they never called me back about helping his spine or to follow up. Take the money and run I guess

If you are looking for a vet that is a little more affordable than others, I guess you can say you have found one. But if you want a vet that will get to know you and your pets, spend time with you when you need them and no keep you on hold for upwards of 15 minutes when you call, then keep on looking. Every time you come you see someone else. A lot of them seem right out of school. Receptionists are so busy that you can see the stress on their faces and in their attitudes. I called in to order medication for our cat who has kidney problems, and they never even called to let me know the meds arrived. The cat had been without it for a few days, which needless to say is not a good thing. When you question their competency, they get all defensive. All in all, below average vet, there are much better ones out there.

We took our 3 year old Lab to Cavan Hills with a severe rash under his chin, it was a raw sore oozing and massive hair loss. Obviously he was very uncomfortable cause he couldn't even sleep at night and was refusing any treats or food. Unfortunately they were extremely busy with a wait time of 2-4 hours. Only a 20 minute drive from home, they told us to go home and they would call us when he could be seen. Which they did and was very apologetic and treated our fur baby with kindness and comfort. I would recommend Craven Hills to anyone who needs their pet to be medically treated with love and concern. He was shared, given a prescription and is now recoperating nicely. And the bill was very very reasonable. Thank You Cavan Hills with the comfort and care you gave our dog. And you didn't break the bank.

We know our dog. We booked an appointment for euthanasia. We know she is suffering at 14 years of age. We have had her on meloxicam before. It doesn’t help her much. She has been on CBD and hemp oil plus glucosamine and chondroitin. She can’t lift her back end without help. She was full of adrenaline at the vet and was up and walking around.. the vet basically didn’t think she is as bad as we are telling her she is... So she prescribed meloxicam and basically said we should do more for our geriatric dog, who we are already doing a ton for! She can’t do stairs anymore, sometimes she can barely step over the thresh hold of the door. She can’t stand up from laying down and she spends most of her time now laying down. She won’t even get up to go out to pee but this vet Jessica Clarke says that we should provide her more nursing care and do more for her, and keep her alive longer, unable to ambulate properly... sometimes not at all, snapping at us when she’s hurting, snapping at the kids and the other dogs. Yes we should prolong this with her.... This round of meloxicam better be a damn miraculous thing Jessica Clark. You don’t know my pets better than me.

I have had two bad experiences at this place now. Three years ago I brought my cat here to get spayed and the surgeon who spayed her caused some internal bleeding. We got a phone call at 3am from Cavan hills telling us our kitty was dying of internal bleeding and that we would have to pay two thousand dollars out of pocket for a blood fusion. Their excuse for the internal bleeding was her breed and her genetics. Thankfully I was friends with the breeder and could prove that nothing about her breed or her genetics pointed to internal bleeding. I demanded they return my cat to me, spayed and healthy or that I would call up my lawyer. When I went to pick up my kitty the next day, I was told that I was LUCKY that the vet paid for the transfusion and that she was alive and well. Now, more recently I have another cat and she’s been showing symptoms of hair loss. Worried, I took her in to be looked at and was told it was mange/mites. I have three other cats and three dogs and none of Them are showing any symptoms similar to my one cat. A vet at Cavan hills sold us on revolution regardless and said if we didn’t treat her, she would spread her condition to our other animals. After two months of revolution, her symptoms have only gotten worse and none of our other animals are showing any symptoms still so it’s CLEARLY not mange or mites and I’ve spent a couple hundred dollars on mite-treatment now thanks to Cavan hills. If you love your animals and want them to get proper treatment at a decent price, I’d recommend High Street. Since these two ordeals, the amazing staff at High Street have safely and successfully spayed, neutered and treated all of our animals, and they are also the most affordable vet in the Kawarthas that I am aware of.

I would not take my dogs anywhere else!! It's an 24/7 energency care, yet the prices are very reasonable. Cheaper than most vets. We took our 10 week old pup there just in time as he had parvo. Ended up 4 of the pups from the same litter all had it. Dr Richard & staff saved our Bentley & the other 3 pups. They treat all the animals there as if they were there own. There amazing people. They have their hands full and are always overwhelmed with emergencies. To their credit they never turn anyone away but expect to wait. The average visit is a minimum of 2 hours. They truly love animals but I think that ownership and management are far too profit focused, they are the only 24 hour vet for a long while and often try to tack on additional services that may not always be necessary. They aren't perfect but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't glad they are always there when needed.

The doctor here ran me through everything in a friendly yet professional manner. I drove all the way from Port Hope but it was worth it for the care my pet and I recieved. We have had a pretty unfortunate experience dealing with Cavan Hills. However.. I would like to note that there are multiple vets @ their office so it is very possible others would have a more pleasant experience than we did. Our dog had a very enlarged prostate & was bleeding so we chose to go to Cavan Hills for ultrasounds due for the cost factor compared to our family vet. We stayed 4 hours for results but were told we could leave after 2 hours & we would get a call about the results. We refused to leave without answers. After 4 hours the vet said he didn't understand the report so told us he would treat it with antibiotics before surgery in 2 weeks .. then call me the next day with proper explanations of the report. 3 days later and 6-8 phone calls later & I finally got an answer from a different vet explaining the report. There were no records of my multiple calls to them on his file so every time I called it was a new explanation. Also, his surgery is scheduled to be done by a vet we have never met (nor do I know their name) which I am uncomfortable with as I want to be sure my dog is in the best care while undergoing surgery. I have read some reviews that depending on emergency surgeries that come in, even with pre-scheduled surgery appt's, your pet will be delayed if other animals need to be seen first. I want my dog to be seen promptly and know that when I drop him off he won't be in a crate/cage for 4 hours. Needless to say we decided to not go ahead with surgery at this clinic (we don't care that we're paying more @ his regular vet b/c we trust them & know who is performing it & trust him greatly). I hope others will read this review & understand that this was just OUR experience & there are other doctors that may be much more reliable at this clinic but we did not get lucky that's for sure. I also had to follow-up 3 times to ensure his results were e-mailed to our family vet & eventually just dealt with the supervisor of their front staff since nothing was getting accomplished.

Our Boston Terrier was not feeling well as he had been vomiting and not able to keep anything down. We called Cavin Hills and they arranged for us to bring him in for 6am. When we arrived they saw us right away and identified what his issue was. They were very cognizant of his seizures and the number of meds he was currently taking. The staff were all very caring and loving towards or little guy. Dr Berger explained all options with us and was always thinking of all the meds Milo was on for moving forward. The next evening Dr Berger called to check how Milo was doing and to let us know the staff had been thinking of him. Cavin Hills is by far the best care for animals I have ever experienced.

Amazing experience every time we go in. The last time our dog wasn’t moving well. On a Sunday they brought us in and we found out it is arthritis and she was constipated from lack of exercise. They could have charged us a huge amount of money like most emergency vets do, but instead we walked away with a 50.00 visit charged and after x-rays and medication 350.00. I would choose them in a heart beat!

I've been taking my dogs to Cavan for many years now and always have a positive experience. The trip to Cavan is about 40 minutes one way for us, so definitely not too close by but always worth the drive. The staff is very accommodating, caring and friendly. We saw Dr. Berger a little over a year ago (July 2020) because my senior dog (Miya the Bernese) was acting very lethargic and had pale gums. We called Cavan because we were concerned and they told us to come right in. It was late at night (11pm, I believe when we called). They were able to get us in right away. Dr. Berger looked over our dog Miya, did blood work, scans, etc and unfortunately the prognosis was not good news. (We found a growth on her spleen and she had cancer). Dr. Berger was beyond compassionate with us. Giving us an in depth explaination about what we were dealing with, what our options were, etc. I truly cannot thank him enough for his compassion we received that night. I will forever remember the excellent service he provided us. Flash forward about a year after that night (August 20, 2021) and we are back at Cavan with our dog Miya again. We knew it was for the same reason, and thing we're getting worse with her this time. We called Cavan in the morning and they were able to schedule us in within an hour of calling to have Miya seen. Which was great because I know how crazy busy they can get there and their days fill up quickly. We saw Dr. Chow that day. She was very compassionate with us and Miya. She ran some tests on Miya and things with her cancer had indeed gotten worse, just as we expected. We had to make the hardest decision that day to say goodbye to Miya, as we could see she was suffering. Dr. Chow supported our decision and talked us through the whole experience, what to expect, how the process would work and the after care involving cremation. She was very comforting, compassionate and patient. It was such a hard day, but her kindness made things go much smoother and we felt comforted knowing we did the right thing. Dr. Berger and Dr. Chow, words cannot express how thankful we are to have received such kindness and compassion from the both of you during such difficult times in our lives. We will forever remember the service that was provided and we will continue to drive the 40 minutes (one way) to go to Cavan, because that kind of compassionate service isn't something that can be found everywhere. Thank you to the team at Cavan Vet Clinic.

Dr. Justin Kalish was fantastic, professional and got us in to see him even though the clinic was super busy and he was working overtime on his shift (which we really appreciated) with our French Bulldog Sake who had a minor eye infection. He performed the stain test quickly and made it look effortless with a very excitable dog. He determined there was no ulcer and prescribed Isathal for his eye, and forwarded his findings to our regular veterinarian. This is a great emergency veterinary clinic, and the only one with an available appointment on short notice in the area.

Our cat needed emergency care and boarding over the week-end. We live in the Bowmanville area and our vet is not open Sundays. We were told we had three choices,; an emergency hospital in either Whitby or Peterborough, or find an alternative. After a google search I found Cavan Hills. Not only were they a LOT less expensive, the care and professionalism was far beyond what I have been use to with human health care. They even let us visit our little patient any time we wanted and the Vet called us with updates. Thank you to all the staff at Cavan Hills. Thiago is doing well.

A few days ago my friends older little pug suffered a seizure and needed medical attention. It was a Sunday and we were referred to Cavan Hills. What an amazing clinic. Very busy clinic. Took 20 minutes to bring my dog out after I had paid. When she went in for her xray, she was held from 8 am until 3 pm to do the procedure after fasting all night, why not just book her in for the time of the procedure instead of waiting all day? They expect me to pay before procedures are done, but have taken seven weeks to pay for an x-ray assessment at OFA on my behalf. :(

I was a client at Cavan for nearly 5 years, but after being lied to/delayed three times in one week (sometimes for more than six hours) I have switched vets. Changing vets was the best decision I ever made. Service quality and customer service has gone downhill since the second building was built. Avoid here if you value your time and money.

Cavan was so wonderful to deal with! My dogs had got into macadamia nuts and they had to induce vomiting. Poor vet techs wore alot of charcoal. They took great care of our Pug who had to stay over might for observation. Thank you all so much for taking care of our dogs !

Complete waste of time We have a bird took him to Cavan We believed he had a respiratory issue Have him all kinds of meds we tried it didn't work So the main guy said bring him in so we did He wrote everything down, seen him for 10 min and he said I have a buddy he is the best bird 80 dollars guy and that he would ask him. This was 6 months ago. They have no idea what to do with birds. If you have a bird run as far away as fast as possible. We spent far too much and the problem has not been fixed.

Cavan Hills saved my senior cats life. They put him first and gave me more precious time with my fur buddy. I'm didn't have thousands of dollars to pay for continuous expensive tests but they did some free just so we could find out what was wrong, his progress and how best to treat him and make him comfortable. And that was my first experience with them, I wasn't a repeat client. But I will be. Vets aren't cheap but I know my money was well spent.

Took my cat in for a diagnosis and was told that there was hundreds and hundreds of dollars worth of tests to be done gave medication nothing changed. Brought her back for more tests more medications hundreds and hundreds of dollars in bills. Started reading reviews and realized that this is what they do and how they operate they perform tests after tests and their tests are not cheap quoted $250 for a series of x-rays the same x-rays are available in Toronto for $50 was quoted $300 to get her fixed same procedure was less than 1/2 in Toronto. Ended up bringing her to a vet in Toronto who examined her diagnosed her and was able to fix the problem on the first visit. Very friendly staff very polite very courteous but they run a monopoly in a small area in charge way above what is normal for every procedure would never go there again.

I would never go back we have been going to cavan for about 9 years.We took our very sick dog to cavan, he spent 5 days there, $3800 later. We would call to get an update and would be told someone would get back to us. 5 or 6 hours later or maybe the next day we would get a call. Horrible experience. Our riley passed away 2 weeks ago. They havent even called to find out why we havent brought him back for follow up.

Had our faithful companion placed in their care for end of quality of life care and was very disappointed in the result. Vet took him away to place iv, and had me do same paperwork I had already completed with reception prior to ordeal. Then doctor was surprised when sedation did not work( IV went interstial) He felt lethal injection go in. Tech came in and told him he was a good boy, fixed IV. Tech seems to have more knowledge then the vet at this time. Not as smooth experience as previous Rainbow Bridge experience ordeal. Do not recommend for end of life care....

We called an had to book an emergency appointment for our Blood Python, she had an infected lip that had progressed quite badly and she had become lethargic. They booked her immediately, advised that they didn't have anyone in that was very familiar with reptiles but they would do their absolute best to see what they could do. The staff was fantastic and did what they could outside of their comfort zone. I can't thank them enough for helping our big girl, she was a rescue and has already been through so much neglect in her short life.

I have never wrote a bad review on anything before but I feel as though I am doing others a disservice not sharing my experience. On the phone before I drove an hour they claimed that there was someone who knew exotic animals like chinchillas. However, when I arrived they looked at him and said "we are not experts" once they realized they had zero clue what they were doing. I have never been more heartbroken as my chinchilla ended up passing away just hours after visiting this vet due to the inability and lies I received from this vet clinic. If you can't treat an animal say that you can't treat that animal. Even more heartbreaking was the fact that I spent $300 for an x-ray and they said on the phone "good news, I see nothing MAJOR other than a little build up in the small intestines" CLEARLY there was something major. I am extremely disappointed, heartbroken, and annoyed in how this vet clinic lied about their abilities in exotic pets and in treating them. I will not be returning and if you have an exotic animal I would do your research before bringing them to this vet clinic.

Very kind and pleasant staff. Clean building. I however had an extremely frustrating experience for getting a hamster looked at . Had an appointment time and the hamster was taken in. Then I sat and waited 2.5 hours before I was seen by the vet, while others with dogs and cats where coming in and out continuously?? Then when I got to talk to the vet finally, they had not even done a thorough examination yet of the hamster. I had been continually set aside for "larger" animals. I had to wait even longer still as they left to see another animal. Then again for the medications to be made. I was there for 3 hours and 15 minutes (with 2 young children at home) before I could leave and the cost was $180 for a hamster! If I'm paying the same fee as a dog or cat to be seen, then I would expect the same courtesy of treatment and attention. This was really disheartening and upsetting.

This used to be the best veterinary clinic in the area, they used to actually care for the animals. Recently, I walked out had waited two hours and was told would have to wait another few. Now, I have several dogs, all treated there in past, spent close to $10,000 over time including surgeries and such. Now, this clinic is out for the money. The animals aren't even secondary now, they are last thing in the line of importance. I now attend Grandview Veterinary Service in Oshawa.

Went in for ear exam. Diagnosed with some waxy build up an slight redness in one ear. Medication $85, some ear cleaner $30 and suggested changing food to one of there special brands. Final bill $275. Without special food. Never going back. Never had that when I go to Lindsay Animal clin. Guess i will drive to lindsay from now on.

Was a few minutes late and they told me I was in the wrong building which no one said the old main building was still active! It took over 10min for them to get to me so really I was late due to there lack of speed and communication. Then they said the vet was now already in surgery. They offered to rescheduled but for a month from now, I took in a feral cat and he needs immediate attention as we have other healthy animals in the house and he’s being separated and a month would be to long. I will no longer use there services for all of my animals. I do not recommend this clinic!

This vet (Dr.Berger) is absolutely incredible! I had to bring my almost 18 year old dog in for an emergency tonight because my other dog bit him during a fight over a treat and left a huge wound. They said they were a 6-8 hour wait because they were so busy but after seeing the picture of the wound they got him in immediately! The vet was amazing and comforting and explained everything to me. He answered all my questions and didn't rush me off the phone like a lot of vets do.They were able to fix him up without having to sedate him (even though other clinics said they would have to sedate knowing it was a huge risk to him) and did a fantastic job!! This will be my go to emergency vet from now on. Thank you for being so amazing, very reasonably priced and helping my little dog feel better ❤

I called regarding my daughters' support dog that has been biting people coming to our house. Because this was escalating and her advanced age I called to make an appointment to have her euthanized. I was told the first available time was 820 the following Tuesday, 5 days away. It was a sad wait saying goodbye. My husband and daughter arrived on time. Were asked for proof of recent rabies shots. We explained that not being asked for them while making appt we did not have them with us. THEN we were told we were there at the wrong time. They had slotted us in for 820 pm! Again this was not mentioned and certainly should have. They turned us away. Such an emotional time taking her there for this to happen with no kindness shown what so ever. Not wanting to.prolong I called around and Ajax East animal hospital took her within an 1 1/2 of contacting them. We kind and curious.

On New Years Day, our 14 year old cat became very ill, and we were faced with the unfortunate situation of having to euthanize him. We had not previously been to Cavan hills, but the staff were absolutely wonderful. We were treated with such care and compassion during our visit. I had heard rave reviews of this clinic and very much respected that they do not charge emergency in a families time of need. (One star) I was beyond appalled when I brought my elderly dog in for post surgery bandage change on Monday Jan 8 at 4pm when the clinic was having a consultation for which urn and paw cast could be done for a boxer named Bosco who was about to be put down with a devastated woman in a crowded reception area. My deepest condolences to this family for your loss. How absolutely shameful and unprofessional of Cavan Hills Veterinary Services. I recently moved to Bethany and started using Cavan Hills Veterinary Services May 2017. I have 2 dogs and 2 kittens which I purchased the 1 year pet plans for. I have very little positive to say about this clinic. Dr Nancy is wonderful (second star) however every visit I'm overcharged (pet plans provide discounts on medications, and certain medications are supposed to be included in the plan.) My elderly dog 11yrs, was dropped off for dental surgery on May 31, 2017 (fasted since midnight) at 7am. She didn't even go into surgery until 8pm that night. Had I known this was common practice, I would've taken her somewhere else. I will never purchase a one year plan for any of my animals in future and warn others to routinely check their billing if they have the plan as well. I would only recommend this clinic for emergency purposes. Their surgery rates are reasonable but for routine care I will be driving back to our old clinic in Courtice before I would ever step foot in there again.

We have been using Cavan Hills clinic for 6 years for our beloved fur babies . They have always been caring and compassionate with both animal and owner. We just yesterday had to have our cat Tyrone of 19 years euthanized. A very emotional thing to do, but the Vet couldn't have been more compassionate, giving us time with him before and after the final injection. I honestly can't say enough about these Great people and the work they do. I don't know how they manage to hold their emotions together, I know I wouldn't in a million years be able to do their job. Keep up the good work, and hope your new building will be up and running soon.

The one receptionist was alright, but other than that everyone lacked empathy and compassion for what I was going through. I lost my pet that night and I felt like I was treated poorly and as an inconvinence for everyone that night. No one showed they cared for me or my pet. I had to bring him back 3 times to get the same medications that clearly were not helping. I finally brought him to another vet and it turned out that they were under dosing him. Instead of 20mg/kg they were giving him 10mg/kg. This has made for extra costs of going to the vet and pain for my little rabbit. I will not being going back to this clinic.

Great people! They treat you and your pet like family. Very caring and understanding of your pets needs. They have a lot of doctors and assistants working the busy times and are open 24/7. The clinic can get really busy and sometimes it can be hard to get them to see your pet immediately if it is not an emergency. That being said they will always attempt to give you an appointment...be it even late night. I have found their costs to be reasonable and they are not pushy with unnecessary expenses on your pet. They have annual plans for your pets health too, which can be cost saving depending on the nature of your pet's health. Located on highway 7 just on the hill in Cavan, they are just 10 mins from Peterborough.

Warning! Do not take your pets here, unless you want to wait to be seen! My older dog was deemed an emergency as of Thursday night, and after making an appointment for Friday, we waited an hour and a half before walking out the door. I phoned a different vet clinic (where I have never been before) and got squeezed in. The receptionists are terrible! They forget you are even there unless you remind them. Never again will I ever take my pet there. Nor will I refer them to a family member or friend.

We just had our 92lbs Dogo Argentino neutered. I've been very unhappy with the last two vets I've seen in Bowmanville and Oshawa. So happy we found Cavan Hills. The girls at the front desk are so knowledgeable, kind, understanding, and prompt. The vet tech was thorough. The price was over 200 less than both other vets quotes and it included a microchip, nail trim, antibiotics, pain meds, cone and a tick prevention prescription. I didn't feel like anything was upsold for the first time. He seems to be coming around nicely and the incision is healing well. I feel relieved I can finally take him to a vet I can trust! The only thing I would suggest to pet owners getting their dogs fixed would be to have your own cone/device at home. Although I appreciated the free cone included I found it hard plastic and super uncomfortable for him. Thanks again for restoring my faith in vet clinics this experiance was top notch!

Have used Cavan for years. Service/Price has been satisfactory in the past. Recently I went to set up an appointment for 5 puppies to get their boosters. I was told appointments needed to be booked at least 3 weeks in advance in order to see one of their doctors. They wouldn't even book me an appointment, told me they would give me a call IF they were able to fit me in at some point. Never received a call back. The attitude and accusations of 'bad puppy parenting' because I didn't book multiple weeks ahead of time were enough to make me walk out disgusted - not just at their unprofessionalism, but also at their willingness to put 5 puppies in uncessary danger by delaying their booster shot. Called another vet - got in the very same day (even though I was trying to book for a week out). What good is an emergency vet when you have to book more than 3 weeks in advance? Absolutely none. Horrified at the service and treatment at Cavan Hills. New building = higher prices.

I have taken both my dog and cat here for emergency service and they were great with both. So lucky to have this clinic in the area. Edit two years later: My cat suffered a sudden, unforseen stroke and passed away on the way to Cavan Hills. I was like, REALLY not ok. When I got there they took him and confirmed he had passed and were absolute angels to me. I had been bitten on the way there when I was trying to calm my boy (as he was in so much pain) and the staff at Cavan Hills cleaned my wound and told me to get antibiotics. The bite got horribly infected and the only reason I didn't end up hospitalised was the care and instruction I received from the vet staff. They made me a print of his paw (without me having even thought to ask) and were wonderfully compassionate. So- from the sobbing, practically catatonic lady with the bleeding hand- THANK YOU SO MUCH for being so kind and helping me through one of the worst moments of my life.

Currently have a rottweiler, 2 years old. Unfortunately, we ended up with a very sickly pup. He had enflamed ears, was always itchy and had bald patches on his fur. After visits to four vets in the durham Pickering area, we had been given advice to acid dip our dog for mites, doing painful skin scraping for tests and shoving their full finger down my dogs ear to clean it (at a ridiculous cost), we decided to head over to Cavan Hills on recommendation from a client there. It was, by far, the best decision we made. We had no issues getting an appointment, and upon looking at the dog for five minutes they diagnosed him with an allergy and prescribed medication to help relieve the itching and pain (which worked within the week). They also followed up about blood testing to make sure he was okay on the medication. We recently had an experience in the early hours of the morning where pup had a very upset stomach and was bleeding when he went number 2. They answered the phone instantly and made an appointment for the next morning. I called back within five minutes stating how worried I was and the receptionist told me to make my way down asap. We were informed another emergency was on route as well, but we only waited for a total of 40 minutes for the vet to come out of surgery (he saw us within 5 minutes of leaving the surgery room). He gave pup a shot for nausea and some pills to settle his stomach, and an xray at our request to make sure he didnt have a blockage. All was at a very reasonable price and they were nothing except kind, patient and explained everything and answered our 50 questions. I would recommend this vet to everyone. They DONT overcharge or try to sell you on stuff you dont need, and they genuinely care about the animals. There is no "cash grab" here. We also brought our other dog here as he picked up worms on one of his walks. He wasnt a regular patient at this vet, so we were informed we would have to bring the dog in for a meet and greet to receive the medication. The vet only charged us for the medication and kindly sent us on our way.

WORST EXPERIENCE!!!! Would NEVER take my pet or recommend this clinic to anyone!! Do NOT take your beloved pet here if you are expecting quality treatment of your loved one! Multiple diagnoses, multiple costs ranging from hundreds to thousdands of dollars. Based off a 5 minute triage visit. New symptoms being added right up until I showed up there and demanded they give my dog back. Staff that looks as though they just walked out of school, standing around. Multiple phone calls laying out treatments that werent even done. My dog was covered in fecal matter and urine. No detailed information about any care done while she spent the night there. Refusal to return her when I expressed I wanted a second opinion.I showed up to pick her up and was still refused access to MY dog. Condecending Dr. that kept her ALL day but did NOTHING when it came to treating her. Created different scenarios all day long. Very stressful for myself, not to mention god only knows how my 4lbs dog was being treated ALL night and ALL day long, until enough was enough. I got her out of that awful situation, and a new vet is assessing her needs, and has also heard NOTHING but terrible reviews from people who take their animals to this clinic. It's a fancy office, full of young adults who mistreat the lives they are entrusted with.

After previously having good experiences with this clinic with my one cat, this last year I have been appalled with the services rendered to my husky pup. Through continuous disorganization, miscommunications, unpleasant service, and in the most recent situation complete negligence for my animal's well being I have had it with this clinic. We will not be returning and have highly advised my friends and other furparents I know to avoid this clinic unless there is NO other option. My pup went in for spay surgery the past week and had normal pre-op blood work. Five days later (and I had called with some concerns (vomiting, increased thirst) over the 4 days I had had her home) we were informed that she was suffering from acute kidney failure. After being run around, misled, and poorly communicated with over the span of 10 hours on father's day, we had to remove her from their 'care' and take her to an emergency vet (Kawartha Emergency) here in Peterborough where they immediately put her on IV fluids (which we had asked for her to be put on in Cavan, and were informed that they were going to). From 6-11:30 pm we were under the impression that she was being treated with IV fluids at Cavan, upon our final correspondence with them we discovered that she had been sitting in the pen there with no care or treatment being provided. Due to the negligence we are currently lucky that Kawartha and Sherbrooke Heights Veterinary services were able to stabilize my animal. Though we are not completely out of the woods, she is on the mend. However, had I followed the last directions Cavan provided (to take her home as her levels were abnormal but nothing 'scary', even though previously we were told she had kidney failure) my animal may not have survived this ordeal. This is just my experience with them, and people should make their own decisions. If they have provided good service for you I hope they continue to do so. But they will never receive my praise or money again. I would recommend Kawartha Emergency Clinic and Sherbrooke Heights instead

We used to praise this place for years when we didnt have any real issues going on with our fur family. Somewhere along the lines, time and time again... this place has failed us. We always go in knowing what we are getting into, but the last time was the final straw. We should never have to tell them whats going on, we are not the veterinarians. We lost our baby boy last week. We are devastated. We have been going to Cavan for at least 9 year. 4 dogs and a cat. Some good but now weighing towards more bad ones. We learned we had to know what was going on to get good care there unless we were dealing with the owner (whos never there anymore). We accepted that until it ultimately failed us. They turned down my thoughts, didn't listen to me about signs and symptoms, and brushed me off like they knew better. Eventually we had to take our dog to another emergency vet clinic in t.o and he succumbed to what was really going on. It breaks my heart as he was my baby and not even 3yrs old, but we will be looking for a new vet. Even the vet in t.o was wondering what the hell happened and why did they ignore me. It makes me think I could've been a better advocate for him, but in reality this is just a huge mistake on their behalf. Nothing will bring my boy back. Make sure you take your furbabies to the best possible vets you can. Their non emerge fees and 24/7 hr advertising may be glamorous but it's not worth it! I ended up spending 2600$ to loose my baby.

Words can't explain how thankful I have been with this vet. Buddy was just 8month old when he lost his bottom teeth due to being hit by a truck. They took him in and made him feel so comfortable and kept him over night to fix his mouth and monitor him to make sure he was good. They even included a follow up appointments for him with no extra charge. Today he is getting his operation and he was so relaxed when I took him in. This made me feel so happy. I was given an appointment time, they took my dog right in, however they left her in a crate for 2 1\2 hours without treating her then finally gave me an estimate of $700! Recently had a very bad experience with them, my kitten had foreign object in her intestine which was going to cost me a lot of money for surgery, unfortunately due to my financial situation I was not able to afford surgery and unfortunately payment options are not available. After having surrendered my kitten to the Humane Society which was the only choice I had to save her, I called just to make sure she came out of the surgery okay as I do love my animals and I am heartbroken to Ihave had to give her up, but they told me now that she is no longer mine and Humane Society owns her they will not give me any information as to as to the outcome of her surgery, now to me that's pretty cold. Just because I didn't have the money to be able to do the surgery does not mean I did not care, after all the first thing I did was rush her to the hospital. I have never experienced such a lack of compassion an understanding.

We paid $650 for them to put 3 stitches on my dog's paw and meds. We had to drop our dog off and they didn't get to him for over 6 hours for an easy fix that we don't even think was done by a vet.. when he came home he was not himself, and that vet visit clearly stressed him out for a week after. We took our German Shepherd puppy Ralph to a vet in Whitby on Sunday necause he had stopped eating, drinking and wasn't moving around. After $1400 in tests the vet didn't know what was wrong. They wanted to keep him for the night for an additional $2500, which would have been fine with me if they felt like they could diagnose or treat what was happening, but they said they were just going to give him an IV and discharge him to our vet in the morning. So I picked Ralph up and brought him home. In the morning we called our vet and they would not admit Ralph as they said they don't have the equipment to treat his "abdominal" issue. The animal hospital in Whitby had sent them a report that said he had severe abdominal pain (which we hadn't noticed, we felt it was his legs). We ended up getting a referral from a friend for the Cavan Animal Hospital and took him there immediately. They admitted him right away. The Dr. sat down with me for 45 mins to discuss what he thought it may be, what they were going to do, and what the cost would be. He mentioned the previous vet had said it was an abdominal issue, I told him we obviously weren't vets but we disagreed with that observation and told him it seemed to be his legs. He appreciated the feedback and said it was actually helpful because based on the other report they would have been focusing on his abdomin. He ended up calling us late Mon night with good news/bad news. He said there wasn't an abdominal blockage, it was hypertrophic osteodystrophy. It is an alignment similar to Panos, and in simple terms is because the dog grows to fast and they experience debilitating growing pains. Blood flow is blocked from the lower extremities and can cause life long challenges. They kept him overnight as he was dehydrated but said he was responding well to pain medication and anti-inflammatories. We picked him up late Tues night. Our vet bill for everything, including a specialist to review the x-rays (integral in the diagnosis), keeping him over night, and medication for 2 weeks was $1500. He was in for 2 full days, overnight, and a ton of tests, they were able to diagnose and treat the issue, vs 4 hours at the previous vet, limited tests, and zero direction as to what was happening for $1400. Ralph is home and doing okay, personally I feel some clinics take advantage of people knowing how deeply they care for their animals. Very important to get good referrals as we learned. It could be life or death for your pet not to mention the financial implications. I am so happy with our entire experience at Cavan and the extremely reasonable prices.

DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMALS HERE!!! Cavan has been my vet for a number of years. Today my dog went in for a neuter. He was to be dropped off before 7am. I was in the lot by 645. Due to covid I called to say I had arrived. They said they were having phone issues and would call me back. I WAS IN THE PARKING LOT. I was also the only car in the parking lot. staff walked by me multiple times no one once asked if I had been taken care of. 20 minutes later someone came out and took him. Well that was 12.5 hours ago and after several phone calls requesting an update, which I should mention I was asked to do by them this morning, I have heard nothing. This is the last of many straws. At this time I do not know when I am getting my dog back.

My wife spent over a thousand dollars to rescue three premature kittens out of the goodness of her heart. Then got her other cat fixed as the vet seemed quite friendly and fair... one of the three kittens passed the night she took them in, which was to be expected, as they told her. Two and a half months later, she gets a call from this place saying one of your dead kittens are in our freezer and either come pick it up or we are going to bill you a 100 dollars for a cremation fee. And she has 5 days before it automatically gets billed and cremated. What a great service and phone call.

Gouged me while my self employed husband is off work with 2 fractures. ..doing more blood work than needed but making me think it was some great spring deal. Charged me $30 more for ear drops than the new vet and their other med she has to take is $16 more. (36 vs 22). Worse than that is how they treated my dog. He spends maybe 2 min...sometimes as much as 5, in an app. Was finally told after a series of health problems that he suspected hypothyroidism. Didn't tell me anything about it. My dog was so sick when finally diagnosed that she couldn't get back end off the floor. But the lovely vet assistant yanked on her to get her to come to the back room for blood work. I got upset and explained that she is very stiff. Neither assistant nor vet showed any affection to her. Previous visits her health problems were blamed on her weight. I would explain she doesn't eat much and gets walked daily. Hmm. ..maybe they should have suspected hypothyroidism sooner. New vet spent an hour with me....explained everything and discovered more health problems that had been overlooked. Of course you can't really figure out a problem in 2 min. I left the new vets office with 3 meds, a medicated shampoo and a full understanding of all that was going on for less money than my other vet visits. They also called the next day to make sure she was ok. In 3 days I feel like I have a new dog!!! She hasn't been this healthy or happy in months. Will never darken Cavan Hills door again. I emailed them a letter several days ago and they haven't responded. I figure they just really don't care.

We are incredibly disappointed and quite frankly, disgusted, with our most recent experience @ Cavan Hills. I found Dr.Good to be seriously lacking in bedside manner and compassion towards my sick dog. In addition, he seemed to struggle to properly administer and read an ultrasound that he performed on my pet, which really had me questioning his skills set. He prescribed medication that ultimately caused our dog to develop a bleeding ulcer. Despite repeated phone calls looking for assistance before, this unfortunate, situation ultimately occurred - he basically ignored our pleas for advice on the symptoms our dog was presenting, from the medication he prescribed- hence, the bleeding ulcer! As it turns out, he neglected to review with us the potential side effects of the medication that he was prescribing for our pet - complete incompetence in my opinion. I felt like the only thing he was interested in was adding more charges to our vet bill. He even tried to charge me twice for the same ultrasound. Lastly, I have always had pleasant interactions with their reception staff and am particularly fond of Meredith. However, during my last visit, I was very unimpressed with a newer member of their reception staff by the name of Kate. She would be well served to take a course in customer service! I had requested a copy of Dr. Good's ultrasound report - they could not find one! They assured me several times that they would look into it and email it to me - this never happened. Needless to say, I will be moving on to Rice Lake Vet Clinic.

DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE. Needed our dog seen on a Sunday due to an injured paw. Long story short they said it was fractured - even though nothing showed on the x-ray and sent us home with anti-inflammatories. 6 days later paw is worse and dog is vomiting blood. Off to another vet who immediately knew what was wrong - infected paw (which is pretty common I am told) and too high a dose of anti-inflammatories. Why a common infection was not caught is shameful. Whether the vets are overworked from 12 hour days or just don't care, either way, not acceptable.

The vet walked in and said that they found bacteria and proceeded to give us a medication that was off the shelf. Cost $200 for something I could have bought at a pet store. Waste of time and money. I am not good at writing reviews or my feelings. I had just adopted a cat, I had him for 6 days. He got very sick within those 6 days I had him. I took him to Cavan Hills and the staff there were amazing. I sat with a vet assistant for 2 hours discussing (bawling) my poor cats health and they were very supportive when we decided the best for him was to humanly euthanize him. I can not thank that vet assistant and the vet enough. It was not an easy decision but I felt I had their full support. I can't recommend them enough!

A MUST READ REVIEW - 6 years experience with this vet as a breeder! - High turn over rate of ALL staff. Majority of Vets fresh out of school. - Front desk staff are not well informed on their policies, procedures, and like to give their uneducated opinion. - Not uncommon for prices to change once I arrived after receiving quote in email. For example something as simple as a vaccination/animal check up, prices change. - 2019 and earlier - I did find their prices to be on the lower end compared to other emergency vets, but it does come with higher risk to the well being of your animal and sloppy work. Experienced 1st hand. - They had a tendency to put hypotheticals and unmentioned illness' in my animals history, when I needed to use my pet insurance I was not covered. They profususlty apologized but damaged was done. This happened twice! Overall if you're looking for a vet for basic general care, their alright in the price range category. I would NOT trust for a major medical surgery.

Took my cat there as I had heard good things. Waited two hours to be seen. They gave me a diagnosis and medication for him. Turns out when I took him to my vet for a check up, they didn’t give him enough medication. They never actually noted their diagnosis nor did they do an X-ray to confirm it. This was about 3 weeks ago. Still currently working with my regular vet to figure out the issue. They took over a week to send his records to my vet and when they did they didn’t even send all of it. This all cost nearly $1400 and no clear answers to what’s wrong with my cat. Wouldn’t recommend this place.

My puppy was very sick with parvo and had to move from it's current vet clinic to a 24/7 vet clinic in order to finish it's recovery over the weekend. We were told by another vet clinic that it would cost around 1200 dollars in order to finish the recovery. When we called Cavan to see if they would be more affordable for the night we were told that they could not give a quote unless we brought the dog in for an assessment, but it would be comparable in price. When we brought the dog for the assessment they asked us to keep it in the car and didn't even see the dog in person. They also said that it would be a minimum three night stay and at least $4000. They charged us $100 for something that they easily could have said over the phone.

After several days of our dog being in their care, no changes to her status, focusing only on a matter that was not even the issue in the end. After countless phone calls and visits it was deemed they dropped the ball. We had a second opinion from another Vetranary Clinic 1 week prior to us having to lay her to rest, and they confirmed our worst nightmare. That the entire time she was in cavans care, they did not pay attention to the actual issue in hand, therefore we lost her. We’ve had 2 out of our 3 dogs visit here and both times they were treated with such great care and the staff were so loving with them. On our most recent visit, Dr. Kalish was our vet and he was amazing!! Our little one is sometimes stand offish with new people but she had no issues with him at all! My only caveat is that you'll likely be seeing a different vet each time if you need long term care, which in my case resulted in a multitude of different diagnoses for my ill cat. I went for an emergency for my 13 year old border collie with lymphoma for my first visit there ever. They were very kind and gentle. They treated him and us with respect and love. As covid rules were enforced they said only one could come in for his final goodbye. We couldn't and wouldn't choose, so I asked if we could do it outside. They said yes that would be fine. So me and my husband lay with him under a tree on the grass for our final goodbye. It was beautiful to cuddle and love him until his last breath. We had a group call with the rest of the family watching on messenger. Dr Chow was amazing and kind. I would highly recommend this vet.

It was totally worth the drive to this amazing place. My daughter's guinea pig needed attention after he wasn't recovering from his post surgery procedure at a Pickering Vet Hospital. Everyone was wonderful and attended to our two emergencies. Poor little guy didn't end up surviving and after he passed away they took extra care of him and put him is a nice case for his burial. My dog had surgery done in their clinic (cost of $4000) . My dog was released from the clinic with the assurance that it was in stable condition. My dog was still bleeding fresh blood as well as having respiratory distress. I called the clinic and they kept telling me everything was normal. I wanted to speak to the vet but was constantly told that he was busy and would return my call which he never did. My dog continued to deteriorate and I brought him to the emergency clinic. The emergency clinic vet was very surprised that my dog was released in such poor condition. I cannot recommend this clinic as I feel that their main concern is money and the care of my dog is definitely secondary.

This place is great! Prices are a little high compared to other vets, but understandable considering it's a 24 hr 365 days a year vet with 30+ staff. All the staff are very friendly and helpful. They take emergencies in as soon as they arrive and make room for patients that aren't quite an emergency but need to be seen that day. I've brought leopard geckos, a bearded dragon, a box turtle, dogs and cats to this vet clinic for several years and have met several of the different vets at this office and they all have been amazing including practice owner Dr.Messer. It is also very comforting that they are 24 hrs and someone is always there with your pet. I will continue bring my pets to Cavan Hills Veterinary clinic as it really is a great place!!!

I have used this vet for over ten years. They used to be great. Reliable and helpful. Since they have expanded with the new building I find them very unorganized and unprofessional. I called to book an appointment and after speaking with the receptionist for several minutes explaining the issue she put me in hold to consult a veterinarian. After being on hold for 15 minutes she finally came back and booked me an appointment. I live over an hour away from the hospital. When I arrived they had no record of the appointment or the conversation I had with the receptionist. We had an emergency with our rabbit and I quickly found out that they were the closest vet that could help. It was about an hour and a half drive, and they made it worth it. I called them before we went to confirm they could help and they were super friendly and helpful. When we got there they showed just how knowledgeable they are when the receptionist/nurse identified our rabbit's breed off of a glance being she's a mixed breed and a runt that surprised me. Our doctor was super kind and understanding, and he showed a huge amount of care for the rabbit's well being it wasn't about how much money he could get it was about how he could help. AVOID COMPLETELY ALMOST KILLED MY FRIENDS DOG. They administered 20 mg anesthetic, instead of the 2.0 mg she should have received. The vet induced vomiting to avoid killing the animal! I've been to Cavan Hills a few times for emergencies when my local vet was closed, or on one occasion when my 14 year-old cat took a sudden turn for the worse and needed to be put to sleep. My local vet would not see him as they were closing in half an hour so we made the drive to Cavan Hills and they could not have been better. It really helped to make a terrible situation bearable. Everyone there is incredible helpful, friendly and compassionate and if it weren't for the long drive being a bit of an issue with cats they would be my vet of choice for everything.

Thank you to the whole team at Cavan Hills and Dr. Berger who performed the surgery on our dog for an obstruction - "string gut"; you saved our dog! She had many kind people (a number of other kind Vets as well as they are 24/7) working to get her better as she was there for 5 days. We cannot thank them enough. She did not have the typical recovery and they worked tirelessly to monitor her, complete tests and find what worked for her to get better. First of all, they don't let you in with your dog. They also changed my appointment times without even notifying me. However, my biggest grievance is that my dog is clearly suffering and in pain. She was refusing food and water even though she was clearly hungry. The vet refused to provide her with medication unless we paid $500 for a test that would take days to get the results for, and then gave her the medication without waiting for the test results anyway. The medication helped her, but the test came back negative. Why couldn't they just give her the medication without running a $500 test on an elderly dog, considering they didn't actually care what the test results were anyway? That is extortion, and I would even argue animal abuse. So far I have paid over $1000 for an ear infection, and the dog is still miserable. I will be finding a new vet, as I no longer trust that Cavan Hills cares at all about my animal, only how much money they can make off her.

It's a Veterinarian like any other. It's more expensive ($115) just for the consultation. More expensive then others we've been to, but with this Covid crisis, not many Vet's will even consider letting you bring your fur baby/animal for a consultation. So our choices were slim to none. Also maybe it didn't help that it was one of the saddest & hardest days or should I say months either of us ever had encountered. I pray that no family ever has to feel there heart being crushed from choices we had to make on that day. Considering life's unbelievable at times and with no warning at all. All I think about is how two of my best friends/dog's were taken from me in only one month to the day. One was over 11 years old and healthy & the other just turned 9 years old, both were healthy and strong as an Ox so we thought. Neither one of us could see any difference from Lexus or Karma. But here we are without them.

Was very happy with our recent visit. The business seems to be struggling slightly with staffing issues on front of the house side - they could definitely use more people to assist with phone calls/customers. Other than longer than expected wait times and a bit of an oversight with billing - they were clear and direct in their advise and quotes. No surprises. Super professional follow up phone call post surgery. All around I feel is a great clinic. Look forward to possible future visits.

I really do not enjoy giving this business a poor review as I have heard good things from many people about this place. I just feel that service did not match the price. I cannot justify giving a good review when I leave somewhere feeling I got ripped off. In the future I will definitely just wait for my regular Veterinarian to be available. I will NEVER bring my dog to this business again.

Our first visit was great. Then the care for our dog with a broken leg after we bought a care package declined. So much the pressure sores from the spling are still an on going repair and now can't have a splint on so hope the break heals ok.

Very disappointing, went to pick up our cats medication today. They changed the cats medication, which he has had for two and a half years, without consulting us, price was doubled, and the pills need to be broken into two. She said it was easy to break, when I asked her to show us, she was unable to break it on her own and blamed a clipboard lol. All we want is our cats to get the needed medication, my family has went to Richard all my life so I had a level of trust that has been broken.

Well let me tell you what a wonderful environment for your furry or scaled loved ones. Extremely gentle and caring & also give great updates. DO NOT TAKE YOUR LOVED PET HERE. Misdiagnosed my bunny, let him suffer. Found out the issue later. Incompetent, have no idea what there doing. Even though they make it seem like there so professional and “knowledgeable”. Let him die, because he was misdiagnosed. Took him there twice. The first time ok, then a few months later I had to come back. Complete insensitive, no compassion. Lack of honesty and trust. Take advantage of you and your pet. And just try taking money from you.

We LOVE Cavan Hills! We brought our dog in for his wild allergies (covered in hives, loosing hair and itching himself until he bled) and they took us in with no emergency charges! They gave us medication to help his skin and blood work to find out what the triggers are. They are friendly, professional and very efficient!! Highly recommend them!! We will never go to a different vet!
