Barb and Shanna are the best vets around! They have taken care of all of my animals. They have been fair, honest, and compassionate in every interaction I've had with them. Their vet techs and staff are also wonderful and knowledgeable, and always make us feel welcome at the clinic. We have never felt pressured by them to pursue unnecessary treatments or buy products we didn't need. When my cat, Mia, passed a few years ago, they were so kind and made a very difficult time more manageable. We have since moved to the Hamilton area but have continued to make the drive for our vet appointments and will continue to do so.

My dog had surgery yesterday and they have gone above and beyond in their care for her. The vet tech, Kelly, called today to check in and make sure Josee was doing okay. I highly recommend them ... they always over-deliver in their services. And they never sell something unless your pet really needs it. So happy to be their client.

Both of these veterinarians are AMAZING! And they don't gouge you with the prices! Our 15 year old dog could barely walk last year, we brought him in and he spent an entire day there, was sedated for xrays, was given accupuncture and meds to take home and it cost us under $400. He is doing very well since, and I have never seen a dog so excited to go back to the vet.

Although we were unable to go in to the clinic for first visit due to COVID restrictions, Dr. Forbes met us outside and introduced herself. She was knowledgeable and professional, and my dogs loved her! The exam was quick and reasonably priced. They're reasonably priced and actually really care about the animals they treat. Dr Shanna is the most caring and knowledgeable vet we have ever known. She clearly loves animals and did not become a vet for the money, rather for her love for animals. She took our beloved Cooper into her care, when he was dying of cancer and looked after him as if he was her own dog. Her honesty, compassion and sensitivity will always be remembered. Our only regret is that we did not take Cooper sooner to Southgate, because had we, our beloved Cooper would still be alive. I can't say enough about Barb and the staff at Southgate Animal Hospital. Service is excellent - the team is always quick to answer the phone and get answers to questions from the veterinarians, and has fit us in last minute several times. Recently everyone went out of their way to accommodate us when our dog cut his leg very badly and the price at the end was much less than we were expecting. Barb did an amazing job stitching up a difficult wound because our dog has wrinkles on his legs, and two weeks later I can't even see the scar. I don't think our dog has noticed that the stitches are there because they do not pull at all. Barb always seems to know a lot about our dog breed, which is not common in Guelph, and has managed to solve several problems that our old vet was unable to fix and suggesting we get $5000 allergy testing for - including recurring ear infections and seasonal hair loss. Barb is also just genuinely good with dogs. At our post stitches checkup, we also had a really great experience with Dr. Shanna, and all of the vet techs and receptionists have been great too.

I cannot say enough about Southgate and the entire staff. From the moment you call/arrive and are greeted, to speaking with your doctor and the following pickup, you can truly feel the compassion and standard this clinic runs by. My normal vet is Dr.Forbes (who has given me nothing but incredible service) but my 9 year old cat has surgery with Dr.Deter on her paws. I felt very anxious with my cat going into surgery as she’s older and a little overweight, but the staff ensured that I was at ease when I dropped her off. Dr.Deter clearly explained the surgery to me, so I could rest assured knowing exactly what was going to happen. When I picked Mia up the next day, Kelly went over her medication and what to expect and look out for in the coming days. My cat is now back to her old self, happy and cuddly. I come from Mississauga and recommend Southgate to any and everybody I meet because the quality of care and customer service is unmatched. The pricing is very fair and the staff will blow you away. The biggest of thank you’s to every single member of the Southgate staff.

My dog had some pretty complicated health issues last year and our vet at Southgate was extremely caring, knowledgable and never gave up on us. We continue to get amazing service every time we visit, all the staff are professional, organized and it's clear they all care immensely about what they do. They view your animal as a patient, not a dollar sign. They will never try and up-sell anything and what you do pay is very reasonable.They take a very personalized approach to caring for your pet. After having a few not so great vet experiences we went to this place which was recommended by someone. Everyone at this hospital is super nice and friendly. We saw Dr. Clinch when our dog got sick near the end of her life. She was highly compassionate, caring and walked us through the entire process. We were so impressed by her that when we got a new puppy, we went right back for her first visit and shots. This place is a 45 minute drive for us but we don’t mind because of the service we receive. I would highly recommend this hospital and Dr. Clinch if you’re looking for people that actually care and are there to make you and your pet feel comfortable.

I want to review Southgate Animal Hospital. I was so impressed at the compassion and dedication the staff, especially Dr. Barb Deter had with my dog. A year and a half ago, a friend recommended them for my sick dog. Barb was just arriving to work and she helped me bring my dog in and accessed her, didn't judge me and took great care of her. Within two weeks, I had my dog back to a normal state. She didn't charge me for services my dog didn't require and didn't doubt my decision to pursue further care. Unfortunately, recently, I had to put my dog down. Barb was extremely caring and explained everything to us. She came down to us and my dog, she talked to my dog and pet her, and made her as comfortable as she could. Today I received a sympathy card from Southgate Animal Hospital, with a note and hand signed with all the staff's names. My dog was my baby girl and Barb and her staff, showed the care and concern and compassion, anyone would want when dealing with a family member. I would HIGHLY recommend you leaving your pet in their care. Thank you so much Barb

I have only ever had positive experiences taking my kitten to Southgate Animal Hospital. Usually Dr. Caitlin Forbes sees my kitten and she is an amazing and thorough vet. When I called towards closing time regarding an emergency, they recommended that I go straight to an emergency hospital since they would likely refer my kitten there anyways. This saved me from having to pay an exam fee first at Southgate, then at an emergency hospital. They care about their patients and have amazing vets, techs, and receptionists. I would highly recommend Southgate Animal Hospital!
