I'll start off by saying that they didn't answer their phone any of the times we called. This made me to go into town to make an appointment for my dog. When I arrived the staff wasn't very welcoming but they did give advice. If your dog is in pain you should put them in a crate so they can't move and hurt themselves even more and don't give them pain meds... Can't say I'll be coming back anytime soon.

My dog had to go through surgery to get an abcess removed. It wasn't a cheap surgery and the staff knew this. They ended up giving me discounts on top of the cost, explained what was going on every time I had to come back and treated my dog like it was their own. These people really care about animals and I'll honestly never go with another hospital for my animals. Highly reccomend this place. Both the reserve and sydney river locations!

i am a first time dog owner that doesn’t neglect the life & well being of an animal which is a member of our family, worried for my gsd that she is suffering from what i think is pressure build up in her head due to infection, she cries in pain when slowly shaking her head, for this animal medical center to deny us healthcare says alot about themselves…i was on hold for 20 minutes just to hang up on me i then call again waiting additional 10 minutes just for them to tell me there is a shortage of staff, i mean it only takes 10 minutes to look at her, iam no vet but i know what shes going through…i referred this place for all my friends & they all got help right away, when i needed there help the most im denied, i brought thousands of dollars here usually $500 a person i mist have sent 6 people there personally, this hurts.

I love this place! You won't find better service in Sydney. They have creative dishes for all dietary needs and change their menus often. Their atmosphere is warm and friendly and their convenient location makes it easy to go from anywhere in Sydney.

I live in Halifax my dog broke her leg while we were visiting family there they never set the dogs leg back in place right when we got to Halifax they wanted to cut her leg off but the vet up here ended up saved it all because it was not set right in the cast ....so this vet cost us around 4000$ cuz they did not know what they were doing

We went home to Cape Breton in early July to see my parents. Shortly after arriving, our 10 year old Havanese suffered an injury and my dog could not support himself with his hind legs or walk. We would later learn that he ruptured the cruciate ligaments in both hind legs. I called the AMC medical centre immediately, only to be told that there were no appointments available and that the vet on duty would be leaving in 1.5 hours. I was also advised that AMC was “booking into September”, despite my plea about what I believed to be urgent situation at the start of our visit. The employee to whom I spoke claimed to “feel bad” for people traveling with their pets and yet would not speak to the vet on duty to see if there was any possibility of them seeing my dog. I was advised to call back the next day. When I phoned the following morning, another employee took down all of the information, said that she would speak to one of the vets on duty, and promised to call me back “right away”. Almost three weeks later, that call has not come! I am left with the impression that nobody at this clinic actually cares about animals, particularly those in acute distress. I was also told that there were no emergency vet services on Cape Breton Island and that my only option would be to drive to Halifax. If you have a pet in need of care, urgent or otherwise, I would suggest you try a different veterinary clinic. It is not worth considering AMC.

The staff at the Reserve Mines clinic are amazing. This week our 15 year old Jack Russell Terrier, Bandit, had a fall and tore one of his claws. We could not stop his paw from bleeding and took him to the hospital. They treated him and had to remove his claw but they were so caring and amazing not only to him but to us as well. I highly recommend this hospital for your pet care. Thank you so much for caring so much.

Have been serving myself and other family members for several years now. The medical services provided has always been excellent, even amidst the additional complexities caused by the pandemic over the past 2 years. I also have high regard for the knowledgeable support I have received in the use of their prescription diet products which are offered on site. In fact, the only problems I have encountered at AMC have been related to the shortage of qualified vets in the area which has resulted in somewhat longer wait times for appointments as of late, but this is, of course, an industry wide issue and not something specific to AMC and their hard-working staff. I recommend AMC without any hesitation; your pets are in good hands.

Buyers beware when purchasing food from AMC. Their quality control is extremely poor. I spend $175 on bags of food for my dog due to his allergies and went in today to buy Royal Canin hypoallergenic food. Upon getting home, I realized the vaccuum seal was compromised due to a hole in the bag so I went back to exchange it. The only other bag they had in stock had even more holes in it and they offered a mere 20% off of the purchase. The lady working reluctantly made an effort to resolve the matter but was quite snotty about the whole situation and not taking the compromised food seriously. I have a funny feeling those bags will make it back on their shelf so buyer beware!! Sydney animal hospital ensures all food is vaccuum sealed before and during their stock's shelf life and that is where I will be shopping from here on.

Their service is worst, awful that I have ever seen. Something I should say first one, they really like to ignore customer when they come in. Last time I been with my friend and his cat, they just did what there were doing and nobody ignored us. Before I brought my new puppy home I called to book an appt for her vaccinations. This is my first puppy. They didn't know if they could schedule me in. I was told if they did it might be a long wait. They didn't give me an appt but said they would call me back. They took my name and number and I never heard from them again. Really!!!! No vaccinations for puppies. How can you say you care about the health of animals? I called another clinic in Sydney and was booked in right on schedule. They don't refuse or delay puppy vaccinations. Thank you Keltic Creatures.

I'm mixed on this place! I've had good and bad experiences, recently mostly bad. They closed their glace bay location very quickly and now I cant get a prescription because the sydney animal hospital is in Sydney and they are their competition. I don't want to drive to Sydney River, Sydney River was never my store. I should be given my dogs file if you close your doors so I can choose where I go. I see signs verbal abuse will not be tolerated all over, well I'm gonna tell you something, if you treat all your customers the way the lady on the phone just spoke with me about.. no wonder people yell at your staff. I'd have to pay for the prescription because that vet is in their area. How about being understanding that you closed your doors and now you aren't in my area!..I will 100% not recommend this place. Send me my dogs file. You are not my vet.

Took my cat there in October, she was missing do three days and we found her with a wound on her side and a limp. We took her directly here because it was the closest. The receptionists could have cared less about us and our cat. One was on the phone the whole tim talking to a friend about her transmition, the older receptionist barely talked and showed no companion. Said the vet wasn’t in today. We left. They were horrible receptionists especially the woman who talked with her friend the whole time on the phone about her vehicle. So we took our cat to the one in Sydney and they were all amazing and very compationate. Will never go to the one in reserve again.

They are the best!!! From the front desk staff to the doctors. My Princess Leia is only almost 6 months but without them i would never have servived the needles, the teething stage or the fact that she got ahold of poison. They helped me with every step. Told me what to look for and what to expect without me asking. They took my baby in without appt. In middle of pandemic to help her in an emergency with vey little questioning and all the love and care in the world. Last day I came here with my pet I had a very bad experience. They treated others actually was better than me, the appointment in there is ridiculous their staff will not care about the time even for the pets. Think about if you have a pet which has emergency problem, you will wast time for the preparation and they will not care about your pet at all. So I suggest anyone who never come here to think about new place that more friendly!!!

I have never posted a review, but based on the way I was treated today, I just cannot stand by and read all of these glowing reviews (not sure they are all real) knowing full well that my treatment today was far and away the worst treatment I have ever had from a Vet. First of all I usually deal with the Reserve Mines location, but they are now closed, which is very unfortunate. I was a client there and our cat was well taken care of. Today I had to call the Sydney office because of an emergency, our 1.5 year old cat injured himself and needs immediate attention, which I explained to the receptionist. She knew my name based on my phone number and asked if this was my older cat, I said no, that cat has passed on, this was a new cat that had not been in to the clinic yet. She explained they are only taking emergency cases, which this was, so she would have to go talk to the Vet. After 2-3 mins she came back and told me the Vet said they cannot see my injured cat! Shocked, I asked why and was told that because they had never seen this cat before they would not let me bring him in and refused to see my cat, even though he is injured! I say again, I was a client in Reserve and yes my new cat had not been in to see them yet, because of Covid issues we had him fully vaccinated up in Halifax where he was adopted, but should that really matter when an animal is injured and needs immediate help?? I did ask for the name of the Vet who refused to treat our cat and they would not tell me. Needless to say my rating is based on this location, not Reserve - meanwhile we contacted another local vet office, where we have never been a client and they were so helpful and kind and our boy is being looked after - AMC you will never get a recommendation from us again - shameful!

Not good actually. I understand that things have changed since COVID 19 , however after calling ( redial ) 25 times I finally got someone to answer the phone to be told I should have called in the ongoing repeat medication for my dogs earlier. Seriously! My husband called them in last month and he began calling around 8 am he logged ," 123 " times until he got some. So no I am not pleased or impressed.
