Best experience. Very professional yet personal experience. I believe that if you give an extremely negative review, as the one below, the statements that you make should have to be substantiated and proven. This type of review is often harmful and unproven. My experience with this clinic contradicts this extremely opinionated, negative review. I am not an employee or a previous personal friend. I have no vested interest in making a positive review. I would not hesitate to recommend this vet to anyone. I'm very glad I tried this vet clinic as I will be a lifelong customer!!

5 stars isn't enough; I'd give 10 stars if I could. The quality of care my cat has been getting at this vet for the past few years has been phenomenal, and I firmly believe that the advice and recommendations from Dr. Stokes is the main reason she is still alive and doing well today. He is a fantastic vet, incredible with my timid cat and very pleasant to talk to about anything related to my cat's health. He's compassionate and understanding, and he's very good at explaining answers to any questions I have. My cat and I couldn't ask for a better doctor to look after her needs. The rest of the staff is also very friendly, great service and pleasant to deal with. I know my cat is in good hands when she's at Terra Nova.

Dr Stokes is really knowledgeable and very good with animals. We brought our parrot to him as we heard he was a good bird vet (there aren't many avian vets in St John's) we found he was very knowledgeable and quick to answer any if our questions without having to research or anything. We even started bringing our dog to him after who he was also very good with. Our dog has had a lot of trouble with allergies in his life and we have seen many vets in the city but so far we have found Dr Stokes to be the best we have seen. Updating my review. Unfortunately my dog passed a while back and went to see Dr Stokes in his last days. Dr Stokes took the time to discuss his condition and offered compassion when we needed it and helped us make the difficult decision to let our friend pass. I don't think you could ask for a better vet

Awesome vet, could not recommend better. I've had experiences with both of the vets at the office and can say they both care about my pets as if they were their own. They lay out the facts in an easy to understand manner, answer any questions that I might have truthfully, and are not keen on pushing the more expensive medicines just for the sake of making a few dollars. For example, my cat tore all his claws out when he flew to Newfoundland. I asked if I needed antibiotics, completely ready to spend whatever was needed for him. The vet looked at his nails (which I had been tending to for the weekend), said they did not look infected, and suggested that if I'd like to buy a $10 cleaning solution they could provide that. She told me what to look for with signs of infection and that if those were to arise I could bring him back. I trust them with recommending what is best for all of my pets.

I took my friend and her dog to the vet after the poor dog was throwing up all day, got the x-rays and could see the object that was stuck in his colon, but because the enema that was very much needed would have been "too messy" the vet turned him down until the next day only for the dog to die that night. DO NOT TAKE YOUR PETS TO THIS LAZY GREEDY VET, THEY WILL DIE FROM THEIR NEGLIGENCE!!!!!

I've had rats for a long time and have always brought them here. Unfortunately we had to put down one of our rats due to cancer, clearly heart broken my girlfriend could barely stop crying. The staff was very comforting and helpful even going out of their way and sending us a hand written apology card for the loss of our animal. When we got our first puppy we knew this is where we would go. The staff has always been nothing but kind and knowledgeable with any of our questions or concerns!

I really wish I had sought out reviews before going to this place. My friend recently got her cat fixed here and the bill was a surprising 200$ more than she was quoted. I just went in and my cat's blood work was $150 more than I was quoted. The doctor was rude to me and called me a liar when told I was quoted a certain amount. taking your cat to the vet is stressful enough without the vet being rude. Just wanted to give anyone a heads up if you are looking for a vet with ethical and friendly practices, look further.

These guys squeezed us in at the last minute, which is always a great start with service. Doctor Stokes was incredibly patient with us, which was appreciated as we are unreasonably over worried pet parents. He gave our animal a noticeably thorough exam (this being the second vet we had been to a relatively short period of time, and the previous vet did not take nearly as much care with the exam). He talked us through all of the outcomes, good and bad, and what we could expect both cost-wise and health wise. Upon asking, he made recommendations based on his personal feelings, but did not push these recommendations on us. We are now patients of this business, and would happily recommend doctor Stokes to friends and family. Stoked on Doctor Stokes! ????????

I have had several rats. I currently have 4, not counting 4 others that have passed away. The team at Terra Nova, Dr Stephanie Elison in particular, had shown great compassion and care for all of my little friends. Their prices are quite competitive, the reception staff is wonderful, and I have left this clinic more than satisfied with how my furry friends had been cared for. I would honestly recommend this vet clinic whole heartedly.

Dr. Stokes is a fantastic vet for your reptiles. I always take mine to him and he always knows what's best for them. He has never steared me wrong. Vets may be expensive but I know for a fact that are NOT here to soak you for your money. They take the right step in helping your animal and saved me in the long run. I did not however like my experience with Dr. Ellison; surprisingly she didn't seem to know much about bearded dragons and did not handle my reptile with respect like Dr. Stokes does. I will not be making any more appointments with her but always be back to see Dr. Stokes. Thanks for keeping my scaley bys healthy!

Great vets. Dr Stokes and Dr Ellison are very good at their jobs as well as seeming to genuinely care about your pet. My only issue with this clinic is the front staff. They are very rude and dismissive and seem annoyed to do basic requests or answer questions.

STAY AWAY! Dr. Michael Stokes asked me to give my old, small dog 80mg of diuretics every day for 2 weeks and return for more x-rays. I have a chronic kidney disease and am very knoldgeable with diuretics. That's a high dose for humans, let alone an old, small animal. It would cause serious issues with dehydration and muscle cramping. He never asked me to prepare for more time outside and to have more water then usual available for the dog. I'm scared to think of what might have happened had I not been knowledgable with diuretics and followed this "doctors" advice. I was seriously considering contacting local media to get the word out that Dr. Michael Stokes risks harming animals for $$$. You've been warned.

Don't take your animals here. There are a lot better places in town. I had to bring out my dog because she was breathing really fast and couldn't stay balanced. She was never like this and it just happen to her all of a sudden one day. So The doctor said everything was normal with my dog and it's just because of her age. She was a black lab mix 11 years old. Yesterday only 2 days later, I had to bring her to get put down. This guy should not be a vet and if you love and care for your animals. Pick a different vet like Avalon Animal Hospital on logy bay road.

I do not recommend this vet. I took my chocolate lab here and was very disappointed. My dog jumped off the back step chasing a cat and came up hopping on 3 legs. When I examined him myself (I am not a professional) I noticed the wrist was swollen, and it was bending abnormally in the wrong direction. To my best guess, and google search of prior stories, it seems the ligaments were injured. Regardless, I called 15 vets around town, checking appointment times and cost, as well as X-Ray cost. Terra Nova Veterinary was a good price in comparison to other vets, the only thing that made them stand out to me was that the X-Ray cost was with 2 views as opposed to 1 view offered by other vets (and 2 for the price of 1 basically) What I was not quoted was that there would be an X-Ray set up fee as well ($45.00 + tax). I feel this should have been mentioned. The other issue was, when I called for the appointment on a Thursday, they said we can get you in tomorrow (Friday) which I was delighted to take. About 20 minutes later I got a call saying we can get you in, in 1 hour if you can make that. So I left work, got my dog and went for the appointment. Once being examined, they said we can't do the X-Ray right now you can leave the dog here for today and we will do the X-Ray some time today. I wasn't able to go back to work not knowing when my dog would be ready; then leave work at closing time and re-schedule my evening because I didn't know when my dog would be ready.... not to mention there was a fee "outpatient" for me to leave my dog for the day. This is not what I agreed too when called. After my dog got examined and had X-Rays, they told me there was no breaks; which was great, but me and the doctor discussed prior to the X-Rays that there were no breaks because Coco would allow us to massage, touch, bend, pull his leg/paw with no restrain or hesitation. So my question was, well my dog has been resting 4 weeks already and hoping on his 3 legs, what is wrong with him and how do I go about getting him better? The answer was "It looks like its soft tissue, you cannot bandage it or put a support on it, just rest him and take antibiotics and wait for it to heal. A few days later I received a phone call, the doctor informed me that I could re-visit for more X-Rays and that my dog had to rest 4-5 months and lose weight, and maybe that would work. I am no expert, but I didn't think X-Rays showed ligament or soft tissue injuries. I contacted the vet via phone call and walk-in visit on getting my results. At the walk-in visit I was told that the results would be emailed in a few days once management approves. A week later I got the email, which said "We're sorry for the delay. The email was attempted previously but, for some reason must not have been successful." . Last going off I wrote the doctor expressing my concerns as they are mentioned above and got no response until today I got a letter in the mail stating that me and the patient "my dog" were terminated from the clinic and our account had been closed. I will have a pet the rest of my life, and no matter my pets condition I will never return to this place.
