I'm new to the city and this was the only vet I talked to that was willing to see my dog, Bruce, when I suddenly noticed a growth on his neck. The entire staff was amazing and helped Bruce to get back to himself! He did require surgery a mere three days after finding the mass (turned out to be an abscess that was quickly growing), and they were great on walking me through the whole process and stuck to the quote they gave me beforehand. I'd happily recommend the team at Vic West Pet Hospital, they were great to deal with and my Bruce is happy and healthy following emergency treatment with them!

Dr. Shergill and his staff took exceptional care of my cat at the end of his life. My cat, Othello, was 17 years old when he was diagnosed with kidney failure. When it came time to make the difficult decision, Dr. Shergill sat with us to make sure we understood what my options were, and what the process would be. He and his staff treated Othello as if he was their pet. Every effort was made to see that he was comfortable. Lannah, in particular, was amazing. I could hear her talking to Othello while he was in her care. Othello was only away from me for a minimal amount of time during the process. Dr. Shergill and his staff allowed me as much time as I needed to grieve at the office, I did not feel rushed any point. I would gladly recommend Vic West Pet Hospital and will continue to trust them with care of my other cat, Olivia.

My review goes from a 5 star to a 2. Below was my 5 star rating and today a 2 star rating. I phoned ahead to discuss tick/flea treatment. My furbaby needed to be weighed. The staff would not let me in. Sophie was uncomfortable and resisting the staff. I told the satff during COVID last year the doctor allowed me in to assist with a procedure. The staff asked the doctor and they said, "no". Restrictions have been lifted, I was willing to wear a mask (even though I don't have to) and they wouldn't allow me in 10 feet to weigh my dog. Seems like they are putting the disorder of their office before the needs of my dog and using Covid as an excuse! When I did step in the the staff immediately looked over at the mess all over the floor. I don't care about boxes and stuff all over the place! I just wanted my dog to be weighed with ease and no stress. And if it was covid, that's absolutely rediculous! We are in stage 3! Last year when things were worse with Covid, I was assisting the doctor in the back with Sophie's treatment. You lost my service! Sophie didn't get weighed because I don't like seeing a staff member pulling her by her leash/neck while she is a completely resisting and scared. Sophie didn't get her medication due to such stupidity. Good bye! Below is my 5 star rating from last year: My experience was perfect! During covid the precautions were exceptional. Accepting a new pet during a pandemic was greatly appreciated. The staff and Dr. Shergill were kind, supportive and tended to all of Sophie's needs even though an appointment wasn't made. I really appreciated the doctor giving me a print out of expected expenses before treatment and going over it with me. Thank you for allowing me to come in for the dew claw procedure to comfort Sophie. We will be back! Sophie is happy and feeling better!

I'm very happy that someone pointed me in their direction when I needed to find a new vet. When I've needed urgent appointments for a pet they've worked us in quickly and got to the bottom of the problem.

I was a patient / customer a few years ago when Dr Sergill was the only Doctor in his practice. I was financially distressed above the concern of my guy’s pains, and the risk of the procedure he needed. Dr.Sergill understood me without putting a “pay now” price on it. Now- two years later, my 13year old puppy was in distress and the practice’s front end staff (all young to me at age 70) were a perfect match to his compassion. Fast replies to my phone calls and e-mails: with Covid, I had not hugged anyone for more than a year, the first was Dr Shergill as I wept in his examination room upon learning that my Guy ,Simon, was high risk, and the extent of his surgery could not be known until he was under anesthetic. Bottom line- Simon is still whining for treats, I am still whining about how far he can still walk, but not ever about the bill- it was less than half of another Vet Service I went to only because I lived In James Bay It is no wonder that his clinic has been voted the best in Victoria since he was established. PS The staff were beautiful to me, masks and all.

I cannot say enough about the professionalism and kindness that Dr Shergill embodies. I had to bring my cat Milo in recently for a dental issue that turned into surgery. He was in pain and the staff at VicWest managed to get him in within the week. Dr. Shergill answered all my questions, never made me feel rushed, didn’t make me feel bad for crying, sat with Milo and made sure he wasn’t scared, and ultimately had to act fast when Milo started having a hard time coping with the anesthesia. He still got the bad teeth out and Milo is on the road to recovery. I’ve never been able to *feel*, while in the room, the amount of empathy that a vet holds for animals, but it is beyond clear how much Dr. Shergill cares. The price was more than reasonable for the level of care. I live on my own in Victoria, and this is a stress factor as well. Recommend, recommend, recommend!

Went in for one specific problem which wasn't looked at. Walked out spending $600 and with medication that wasn't necessary. Too chicken to ask for a refund, so I'm not certain how that process would've gone. The staff were very kind but didn't listen to anything I had to say about my dog's problem. Just did a bunch of tests that had nothing to do with our visit.

Dr. Shergill has been so wonderful with our little dog and two cats. Our dog is usually fearful of men, and he tends to bark a lot and shy away. However, when Dr. Shergill came into the room the first time, our dog didn't make a peep and was very calm! Dr. Shergill is a such a kind man with a calm demeanor and sweet nature, and he really cares about the animals. The staff have always been great and helpful as well!

Truly such an incredible experience. We booked after several friends recommended this clinic, after having a horrible experience at one of the VCA animal hospitals in town. This could not have been more different! The vet was so attentive and the exam felt much more thorough. She really took time to answer all of our questions, never made us feel silly or rushed at all. And she was so good with our dog (who has severe anxiety)! The whole experience was wonderful and very reasonably priced (we had the full exam, toothbrush & toothpaste, and 2 heartworm medications and the total was less than $130). Could not recommend enough!!

This place is simply amazing. I woke up the other day to one of the heart wrenching events I've had to deal with in regards to my fur baby. My poor kitty was suffering from seizures. I've never experienced that ever before, and I was terrified for my little buddy. I called and spoke with Whitney, who was extremely pleasant to deal with, she said to bring him in right away and the doctor would see us as soon as he got it. Which he did. Dr. Shergill was compassionate and understanding and walked me through treatment options. The part that blew me away completely was the follow up. There have been 3 calls from them now. Wanting to see how my little guy is doing and how he is responding to the meds. I'm happy to report there have been no recurrences as of yet. A huge load off my mind! This is going to be my vet forever and always moving forward! Top notch! If you're in the area and in need of a vet, this should be your place! Thanks again Vic West Pet Hospital! What a pleasant experience! I have a 3 year old Australian Shepherd who is a little anxious at the vet. Tonight we met Dr. Nancy Heath for some vaccine updates and she was so lovely. I expressed how fearful my dog is of vet clinics and not only was she patient but also gave him positive reinforcement during the exam. She was very knowledgeable & answered all my questions. The vet “diagnosed” our pupper with an ear infection without doing any tests, then proceeded to charge us 200$ for medicine. We got a second opinion from a better vet who said she had perfectly healthty ears the next day and she also said she would never give medicine without doing a swab our examination.. clearly he is a liar looking to profit from peoples lack of knowldge and their trust in his proffesion. I will never go back and i warn you to avoid this place.

My fur baby was extremely sick. The staff and Vet took care of him right away. Was turned away from another hospital for them thinking the problem was too small. Turns out he needed immediate care, in which Vic West gave. Thankfully saving my little man. Talking around to other people, this is the best Vet you could take your pet too in the Victoria area, prices are lower and the care is extremely high. The girls kept me informed, asked the right questions. Normally if my little guy is scared or doesn’t like someone, he hides behind me. After all his care, he still ran towards the girls and vet for affection. The pups know!

Really feel like we just got taken for a ride. Our small dog had a pretty bad limp and was in a decent amount of pain and we couldn't identify why. So brought him here based on reviews. $575 dollars later we find he has a cut on his foot. I get being thorough, but this is down right ridiculous! They also tried to sell us $20 fancy iodine, that you can get at shoppers for 6 bucks. I want the best care for my animal but it's places like this that take advantage of peoples love for their animals. Beware unless you have deep pocket. Will absolutely be taking my business elsewhere.

Dr Shargill has the patience of a saint, and never gets cross when I interrupt him, which is often because I am socially awkward. He is also very good with animals, and his support staff are also kind, and patient. He is very honest, and won't upsell you things your pet doesn't need, only what is required for informed diagnosis.

I’ve taken my dogs to McKenzie for the past three years. I was quoted $2400 for an appointment removing several teeth (broken). I came to vic west and was quoted an identical surgery for $1185. I found help here for 70 ish walk in (one of the best prices on the island) My animals appreciate the service as I don’t have pet insurance and can’t always afford paying extra, for what seems to me like just a profit margin. Amazing experience all around. I don't know if I'm pronouncing this right but doctor Shergill was incredible and very professional and helpful. He listens to my concerns number one which I haven't experienced a lot at different vets, they often don't take anything I say seriously. Between us we were able to figure out it's either something blocking his airway or likely feline asthma / bronchitis. He actually helped me figure out what is wrong with my cat without having to pay thousands of dollars. It ended up being an air freshener giving my cat bronchitis/asthma, he didn't go prescribing medications until the x-rays were back which is also a good sign that your vet is honest. (If you're reading this and you have an Air Wick freshmatic or any air freshener that automatically sprays and even says is safe for pet on the bottle, remove it now!) Now that I live in Victoria this vet/doctor will be my go-to point of care for all three of my cats. Very very happy.

Exceptional! We were visiting beautiful Victoria from out of town with our elderly dog in August. He got very sick, and we were turned down by a number of vets who said they were too busy, or we would have had to wait hours to get our dog in. Dr. Shergill was busy, but was kind enough to see our pet after he was done surgery. After a brief wait, he provided excellent service and care. We had known our dog was in the last stages of his life, and Dr. Shergill was very realistic and reasonable in his approach to our pet. Unfortunately, by the next day, he did not recover, and we knew it was time. We brought him in again early to Vic West without an appointment, and the good doctor was kind enough to do what needed to be done. Dr. Shergill was most compassionate and humane throughout the entire process, and I must say that the whole staff at Vic West Pet Hospital treated us and our dog with such kindness and decency. Even a small gesture like having a candle burning in the front office while our beloved pet was being put to sleep was very meaningful to us. Thank-you Dr. Shergill and the staff at Vic West, for making such a difficult experience much more bearable.

I travel from the mainland to go to this clinic! They are the best! Honest, helpful, great staff, caring, understanding. Only one problem! They aren't on the mainland!! But if they were, they'd probably have a lineup 10kms long to get in to see them!

My experience with Vic West pet hospital was amazing. I couldn't have asked for a better more caring team to help save our family member. When our Cat was deathly sick they were the only vet who would take us in on short notice and saved our fur baby. I am forever grateful for Vic West pet hospital and their team of amazing staff.

Words fall short when it comes to describing my appreciation for Dr Shergill. He has cared for my dogs through almost every life stage from pregnancy care, to the birth of puppies, routine wellness, emergencies, surgical procedures, diagnosis of serious disease, and end of life care. I have witnessed him drop everything without hesitation to save the life of a very ill puppy after hours. Every single time he has demonstrated patience, kindness, presence, compassion, knowledge, and wisdom. He has always made time to answer any questions that I have and has supported me in making some very difficult decisions without pressure or judgement. One of my dogs is not fond of other new dogs and I have never once felt judged for it. She adores Dr. Shergill with every fibre of her being and vibrates with joy when we go to see him. Another of my dogs is confident with the rest of life but unsure of the vet. Dr. Shergill engages with him in a way that puts him at ease and gets through what needs to be done. The staff at Vic West joyfully accommodate regular drop ins so that my boy can get treats and learn that fun things happen when we go there too. It is abundantly clear just how invested Dr. Shergill is in the health and well being of my dogs and I am beyond grateful to have him as our vet.
