You must have seen that it has an average rating is high, and it is founded on a high number of scores, so we can say that the evaluation is quite credible. If people have bothered to value when they've done well with the business, is that it works.
As you know, we do not usually stop to write opinions when these are correct and we usually do it only if we have had a problem or issue...
This Veterinarian is included in the category of Animal hospital.
Very helpful and calming advice in the middle of the night
We came in on an emergency, life or death basis for our beloved Boogie dog and they went right to work on him, saving his life. All the staff were so knowledgable, caring and compassionate and we're happy to answer every question, concern and phone call. We are thrilled with the care and outcome ❤
The veterinarian we met was very nice and concerned with our dog, not selling us things.
Very expensive but excellent care and compassionate staff.
Very friendly and supportive environment. Feel lucky to have them right downtown and easy to get to - only wish they had 1 or 2 vials of Ferret med on hand regularly, but maybe it's something that's too perishable.
Our new adopted pug had a visit with this VCA emergency while we are here from out of town. They were efficient, helpful and very kind.
Such a great experience with my dogs surgeries. The staff is so friendly even after 2 surgeries she loves to see everyone there!
I've taken my dog to this vet hospital twice now, and although it's definitely pricey, I can't say enough about the staff and level of care provided. My pup had to go in today for an emergency day-long procedure and Dr. Bissett was fantastic. She was extremely gentle with my dog who was in a lot of pain at the time and I was able to leave him there feeling at least comfortable that he was in good hands. I spoke with the front desk staff several times on the phone and they were very helpful and considerate, and also spoke to Dr. Bissett on the phone and at pick-up time (arrived at the hospital at 9am, picked up at 8:30pm and the vet was there the whole time, those are long hours!). Dr. Bissett even remembered my dog from the only other time he's been there, which was two years prior. I'm impressed and thankful for her and staff's competency and kindness on a stressful day.
The staff and doctors here are friendly and straight forward. Its more expensive than a regular vet, but they are open 24 hours a day and 365 days a year, we are all so lucky to have such a service in Victoria in times of an emergency or hospital related issues. When our dog passed away, we received the ashes in a beautiful wooden box with a paw print cast. Very touching thought at a sad time. Keep up the great service to our community.
Such expensive service - took my cat here yesterday after she had a stroke in front of me and was sent home with a prescription for a potential mouth infection and no medical advice other than to contact my regular vet. $400 bill for exam and sedation because the vet felt unable to look inside my cat's mouth mouth without it.
The staff at the Central Victoria Veterinary Hospital were very compassionate when I had to have my little love euthanized in the early morning hours. I was given a private room, and time to say goodbye in a very respectful way. Little Bonny did not suffer, and the end to her sudden suffering ended peacefully. Thank you to all that helped me with a very difficult and heartbreaking task.
They were so kind, helpful and caring to us. We unfortunately had to put our dog down to a flipped stomach and it was one of the saddest things I've ever done :( we phoned in letting them know we had a large dog prone to anxiety and they did not car and said immediately come in we want to help. Help they did, it took 30 minutes but the finally sedated him for test and I am so thankful they didn't give up on him. Alot of other vets have not taken him and they were so good with him it was nice to have people that really cared for animals. I would recommend this place to anyone with an emergency vet problem!!
so much love and respect for what the veterinarians as well as assistants do here. from what I understand they are quite understaffed and overworked, but they are still heroes every day. we found a cat that had been hit by a car not long ago and the staff at VCA were willing to take him and make sure he finds the proper closure with his family, as unfortunately he had passed away. the staff were very understanding, and the lengths they are willing to go are always appreciated. Thank you VCA!
Great staff, great service. Not trying to sell you something you don't need. Will advise over the phone on whether or not it's justified to bring your pet in as an emergency visit or go to your vet the following day.
I was really nervous to bring my bunny here because a lot of vets don't have experience with rabbits. They were wonderful and professional and I'm pretty sure they saved my bunny's life!!! ????????
Excellent emergency care and services for pets.
My dog would not be home recovinging today if it wasn't for the staff and doctors at VCA. From the moment I walked through the door the kindness and caring was felt. Thank you all for making this traumatic situation much less painful. I was afraid of what I had heard about the cost of going there. In the end the cost was way less than the original quote. The finally price was only a few hundred more that our personal vet.
They are very thorough
Our dog Javier got really sick and we were preparing to lose him. The staff were caring and happy to keep us updated. The docs gave us early morning and evening updates and responded quickly to all of our concerns. I have read some of the reviews posted here that say they only care about money. Medical treatment is expensive - even for our beloved pets. GET PET INSURANCE. If you love your little guys get them covered. Our 4 days of treatment were pretty much covered and we didn't have the added stress of worrying about finances. I will definitely be taking him back here if anything should happen and will be confident that he will get the care he needs.
Dr. McIntyre and staff were excellent during the difficult task of putting our dear old cat to rest. Highly recommended.
Very professional, polite and courteous and would certainly trust them with my dog again. Fantastically overpriced though. I had a very good experience up until I picked up my dog. When one of the vets decided that barking orders at someone who just spent $650 on an X-ray would be OK after she had obviously misinterpreted the situation. We had it under control lady, you could have just kept walking like you did both times I said good evening to you and you pretended I wasn't there. Maybe levitate above the rest of us inside next time. The rest of the staff was great though.
Friendly caring staff. They understand that you are worried about your pet.
I've been dealing with this veterinary hospital for over 30 years as a pet owner with out various pet emergencies. They have always been professional, compassionate (which has been greatly appreciated when having to say goodbye to our fur babies) and helpful. As far as fee's go, all veterinarians in this day are in it for the money just as dentists, lawyers and politicians are. No such thing as discounts and no such thing as compassion when it comes to service fees. Seems its an automatic $128.00 just to get a checkup for your pets. Please consider veterinary fees before adopting a pet (average medical/veterinary costs for the lifespan of 12 years for most pets is approx. $20,000.00 when you add up basic coverage over that 12 year life span of your pet). As far as the Central Victoria Hospital for pets goes, I will never go anywhere else and a run down building does not make for a lesser quality veterinary service. Want to make it better then donate to help them make it so. Thank you Central Veterinary Hospital for your years of service. I know I will have to see you again someday sadly but know I can count on you to be there for our future fur babies. RIP Misty, Daisy, Moon, Freska McDonald. We miss you.
Always open or available in an emergency. Caring people, but the waits are long.
Recently my cat was suddenly very ill and had to be taken into VCA Central Victoria for care. We received top notch service – everyone at Central Victoria was extremely professional and helpful during a time of high stress for me, my family and my kitty. In particular, my cat’s vet Dr. Christie MacIntyre was exceptional. She explained everything very clearly, was incredibly knowledgeable, professional and empathetic. She is an excellent veterinarian and I hope to have her assist any future pets if or when we ever encounter another emergency.
We sadly had to let our dear old dog go last Friday night. The staff at VCA were extremely compassionate. Dr. Jennifer Van Dee Lee was the vet on duty. Even though they were quite busy, she was so caring, clearly presenting us with all our options, and giving us the time we needed to make a very difficult decision. We really appreciated her attentiveness and compassion to both our dog, Blue, and to us. Thank you.
I received essential emergency care for my older dog as he had urinary crystals and stones and was in pain. The staff were helpful and kind. Although we did have to wait a bit, it really didn't take that long to get the tests, diagnosis, medications and next steps in place. He is on the mend and sleeping peacefully. I am very grateful to Dr Royle and all of the staff!
My poor cat was sick for sure but the money they tried to extract from me was way over the ridiculous mark! I felt like the staff and doctors were reading a 'script' that said more cost than what really needed to be done. Overall the staff were 'Good" but held to a strict advise that you should spend as much as they could get out of you... I bet this post never gets posted...
They offer excellent and compassionate care. If you have an emergency case, they are very good to work with. I have brought my pets there over the years. I have always found them to be helpful and compassionate. The service isn't cheap, but this is medical care. The level of interventions they will go to when they are trying to save a pet is intense, but it's really welcome to see them try.
Nobody expects pet care to be cheap. All I will say is ask them what ALL the costs will be for each step, including any injections, exam fees, etc. I thought I was going to be looking at $300 for an x-ray, was a bit surprised by the total coming to over $500 once every single item in the process was added up. Very friendly staff, good and safe check in and check out process, just not a fan of how all the costs were not explained.
They take great care of my dog! Very friendly and professional
It's a great hospital
After reading all these reviews I felt uncharacteristically compelled to add to them. Pros: - I have always found the vets highly competent and able to address the issues we (our pets) have faced considering the patients could not speak to say if it was their elbow, shoulder or back that hurt more. - They are open 24 hours and all long weekends. (period) If you can’t wait for your clinic, then go there and you will be quickly triaged. “Trouble breathing” is a symptom to guarantee prompt attention, over the “walking wounded” waiting in the lobby. I have seen triage happen immediately, and if not urgent we have seen a technician within 30 mins of our arrival. - They have operating theatre, so they did an emergency procedure for us at 2 am. Cons/Suggestions: - It is expensive, and they have been very clear to me (and everyone I watched come in) telling me that it is $160 just to see a vet. One positive to their billing practices is I was approached with a full explanation and detailed estimate for the procedures necessary. - Waits to see a vet could be very long on certain days. Call ahead if you feel you can wait to determine how long it could be to see a vet. They DO NOT take appointments. - Building up medical history with the vet is a challenge as it is not a regular clinic. Telling the same story over again could happen if you are forced to go in a couple nights in a row. Overall: I am a supporter of their work and practices. Let’s face it…It is a hospital and as far as I can see it is run just like emergency at the Jubilee. Except the patients cannot talk to us or the vets with better details and therefore handicapping all of our abilities to understand what is wrong, and possibly urgency. As for the cost, other reviewers mention insurance. BC Health (insurance) is what we use for ourselves and our families so we can walk out of the Jube without dropping our VISA, but if you did have to pay you would be stunned. (personal experience in the US was $36k for 18 hours in ER). I recommend buying insurance, but if you choose not to then put $5 in a special pet account every time your loved one welcomes you home with a waging tail or a cuddle on the couch. They (and you) will be the ‘richest’ members of your family. (thanks for listening)
Very compassionate, gentle and empathetic during the process of euthanizing our 18 yr old puppy. Quick to provide a quiet private space and give us our time to bid him goodbye in an unhurried atmosphere. Provided full service including asking us about keepsakes we didn't even think about. They even washed the blanket we carried him in. God bless them all.
To be clear this (one star) is 100% a review of Amber Johanson, not the hospital, however responsibility does go up the chain, therefore I strongly suggest the conduct of this member of the "team" be addressed. Even though I am not a resident of Victoria I have visited this hospital due to my black lab thinking it would be a good idea to eat a box of SOS pads. My experience with the hospital was as good as it can be when shelling out $2000. This review is in regards to my sister's visit to emergency care last night because her 13 year old dog was in distress and having trouble breathing. The examination found that her dog was suffering from heart failure. In Amber Johanson's world this is the time to make the client feel guilty for suggesting it is time to put her dog to sleep while in the same breath stating that BEST case scenario IF the dog makes it through the night, that she will only live for a few weeks to months. I will mention that my sister has pet insurance. SHAME on this veterinarian for pressuring a grieving pet owner to make a decision that benefits nothing other than the businesses revenue. Tormenting the dog and the owner while milking the insurance company. This afternoon, the day shift determines it is best to put the dog down ...YA THINK? When exactly did veterinarians start playing God? I have had a dog all of my life and the change that I have seen in this industry during this time is disturbing. I would love a reply to this review directly from Amber explaining her thinking process in this case as I am sure many other pet owners would like to hear as well. Waiting.

Sadly I’m fairly disappointed by my experience there. I brought my 14 year old dog after she started losing her balance (falling over) all of a sudden. I thought she was having a stroke so rushed her to VCA hospital. They did an exam and the vet said all was normal (reflexes were good, etc.). She couldn’t really tell me what the issue was unless they ran more tests. When they brought my dog back out she was exactly the same. Couldn’t walk and she was tilting to one side. I looked at her eyes and her eyes were moving fast from side to side. It was scary. I quickly google “tilting, loss of balance, eyes moving fast in dogs” and it turns out those are the 3 main signs of vestibular disease (which can often just happen in older dogs). The vet had mentioned this was a small possibility, but that she only had one of the symptoms so probably not and more tests would be needed. I declined the tests as they can be done cheaper elsewhere and my dog wasn’t in immediate danger. But honestly, did they even thoroughly examine her? If the vet had looked at her eyes closely or tried to walk her for even a minute she would have noticed the fast eye movement and head/body tilt. I called my regular vet in the morning and when I described the symptoms he agreed it was very likely geriatric vestibular syndrome. If it doesn’t improve within a week or two I will bring her back in to the vet. I just don’t understand how it took me, someone with no vet training, 5 minutes to self diagnose my own dog right after she was brought out from their facility?? I realize they were very busy that night but damn, at least do a thorough exam.
Thank you to Melissa and Leslie for your attention and care to triage my senior cat last night!
Compassionate staff, no surprise charges, and they lay out all the information for you. Some of my worst memories are bad news I’ve received here, and they did everything in their power to make it easier.
I am hesitant to give this place even 1 star. This is my second time at the Central Victoria Vet Hospital, and the 2nd time I have been so incredibly disappointed with the care my animals have received in this profit-driven "hospital." My latest experience was yesterday when I brought in my 4-month old German Shepherd puppy; he had been limping for a day pretty badly and I was concerned that he sprained or broken his back ankle. I took him in where one kind staff member checked my puppy in, then asked me to wait. Another staff member approached me 15 mins later and told me she would be taking him into a room to do his "triage" (vital signs, nothing more), and off they went. About 10 minutes later I could hear my puppy crying out in pain, so I approached the front desk and asked an employee if I could go in to comfort him. She rolled her eyes at me and replied, "I'll ask in a few minutes, OK?". She never asked and his crying out continued. Then the person who originally took my puppy returned and took us both to an exam room. 15 minutes later the Vet arrived and explained that she had a lot of difficulty examining him (?I suppose she came in during his "triage" and did his exam) and required assistance from several staff--I'm not sure why she thought this information was relevant to me--of course he is difficult, he is an injured puppy and they did not let me in to comfort him. She then explained to me all of her "concerns" about this being possibly a hip injury or a growth plate injury. She recommended I go with the option to sedate and x-ray him, or my alternative option would be to get a pain med and rest him at home. A vet-tech came in with the numbers, describing how it would be upwards of 1,000$ to go with the X-ray, and about 100$ for the pain medication. The tech said they might want to do an injection before I leave, and I told her that I do not want that, as last time I brought my cat in, I was charged 100$ just simply for the act of administering a subcutaneous injection (the med not even included); she denied this and I asked her to look up my record. The tech looked up my record and admitted that I was, in fact, charged 100$ for administering a subcut injection. I said I would go with the oral pain med for my puppy(because I sure as hell don't have a grand to burn on an x-ray). The Vet came back in the room to describe the medication and what to look out for, but again stressed her concerns about his potential injury being a hip or knee/growth plate problem. This is when I mentioned to her his swollen ankle, his inability to flex at his ankle and his constant licking at the ankle---where the injury CLEARLY IS, the site of injury that she NEVER mentioned once. She replied, "oh yeah, I noticed that." My genuine feeling is that she suspected it was an ankle sprain (that likely would not have needed any sort of diagnostic tests), but she wanted to go ahead with all of these unnecessary X-rays and specialist referrals just for the money. I am so disgusted with the incompetent and unsafe care that my puppy received, and I would not recommend this place to anyone, ever.
I have been coming here for almost twenty five years. My regular vet, Dan Thompson (Lakehill Pet Clinic) provides surgery out of the hospital but when he is not available due to the late hour, I always take my beloved standard poodle here. I want to say that the staff have always been polit, and have explained all directions clearly to me. When your pet is ill there is no more reassuring fact than to know you can call them, they'll have someone come in and your pet willbe seen in priority order. Oh yes, that is something few people mention. When your dog needs immediate attention you get it. last night we came in for a potential ear issue and I had no problem waiting while a dog with a potential poison issue was dealt with and other dogs with more pressing (allergies) were seen. Staff repeatedly apologized for the wait but this is emergency medicine and it works on the basis of who needs help the most. Some people complain it is expensive but it is an expensive facility with even an MRI which costs about a million dollars so you have ti expect that you will be asked to pay a reasonable amount of money. If you call in the middle of the night and they have to call a vet to come in, then yes there is a substantial charge. But if they didn;t charge that fee people would come in and expect vet for things that could be dealt with at their regular clinic. My dog was certainly not in danger but she was in alot of pain. It would have cost me significantly less to go to my regular vet the next day but the dog was pacing and would not settle. She is 12 years old, a very elderly age for a large poodle. So is it worth $500 to have the ear cleaned and checked and medicine given so that she doesn't have to wait another 12 to 14 hours to see her own vet? YOU BET!! Less than 7 hours after the quick surgical procedure to correct the ear blockage she was going for a walk, eating breakfast and resting comfortably. If I had waited to see my own vet--whom I trust more than anyone--she would have been hours behind in her recovery.
A 24 hour veternarian in Victoria is great! Helpful and caring staff.
Emergency Splenectomy for Sequoia went well. Could have done without the staff telling us she was too old to spend so much money on.
Competent clinic, although their top priority seems to be to clean out your wallet.
Good Place and very compassionate.
Unfortunately we have had to use this place a few times for our lab puppy, but everytime they have been super fast, kind, and answer any questions. Yes they are expensive but they are open 24 hours! They also work with our insurance company which creates a lot less work for us! I wish I could remember our vets names, they were fantastic! Hopefully we won’t be back but if so, we highly recommend VCA!
The staff was extremely nice and super helpful with our 9 mo old Boston terrier. Unfortunately due to Covid restrictions, we had to drop her off at the clinic and wait in the parking lot for a phone call. Even though we explained that we live only a few blocks from the clinic, we were told we couldn't leave. It was almost 3 hours in the car until we got the call to pick her up. I don't think its necessary to have people waiting in the parking for3 hours.

Dr Petra Kos and the vet techs were incredible. I was upset and worried about my dog and they all took the time to help me understand what was going on — and especially Dr Kos. She explained everything 2-3 times and ensured the information was digestible and accessible for me... which I’m sure was a trying task given my stress. She also followed up with me after my pooch and I went home. Such a good experience. (And my pooch is already improving!)
Sadly we had to use this emergency hospital more than once but the staff is amazing it take good care of you and the service is quite fast even when it’s busy it’s an emergency after all.
We needed the hospital for our puppy at 3am and the staff were professional and friendly. Ultimately, I felt the medical service they provided was fair and excellent. I won't hesitate to call them again.
Good vets and great care and service
Not that you ever want to find yourself here, but the staff and doctors were awesome. They helped us get in and out as fast as they possibly could (it's an emergency center so it's done by priority) and they were incredibly kind. This is the place to go if you and your furry friends need help.
I know its a good place for emerengys...
Absolutely the worst vet clinic ever. Waited 5 hours and was told that they didn't know what the problem was. They actually looked at him for maybe 30 seconds. They told me to go to my regular vet and charged big money anyway. I think they care more about money than animals.
The oncology team at Central Victoria Veterinary Hospital made a horrible situation a thousand times easier because of how caring, kind, responsive and receptive they were. I never felt rushed when asking questions or speaking with the doctor. The techs always greeted our sweet boy with the warmest of smiles and he was always happy to see them which I think speaks volumes. Although we lost our sweet boy to canine lymphoma, of which there is no cure, they did everything they could to give us as much time as possible with him. Highly recommend them for your veterinary needs.
Bit pricey, bit run down looking but great staff and service. Thank you for saving my boy, Cosmo.
My experience with this hospital is mind-numbingly bad. The expense is one thing (yes, very high with all sorts of expensive recommendations for "extra cautious" care. Just say no, btw.), but having to wait 40 minutes for them to organize our bill when the hospital is otherwise empty, is another. Why? No good explanation. This happened last time I went there too. Too bad this is the only 24 hour emergency vet clinic around. Please, get your act together!
Great services and the friendliest staff
Took my dog here for what turned out not to be a huge emergency, but I was worried. There is a lot of waiting around but they eventually took her for the night and did xrays. Picked her up this morning, had to wait again, around an hour, just to pay the bill and get some meds for her. I'm sure it's like any human hospital, with triage and all that, but we were thinking of just leaving last night, it took so long. Maybe understaffed? The vets were all lovely when we spoke to them so that would be my only guess.
Really friendly staff and caring in our sad situation
I had to bring my cat in for an emergency surgery. The staff were wonderful! They took great care of my cat and I found their prices were right on par for the level of care my cat received. It's great to know that no mater what day and time if I have a situation where I need a vet, they will be there!
Good caring doctors as well as nurses
My cat came in as an emergency and the staff were kind, responsive, and communicative. Vet called twice a day with updates and I could speak with nursing staff at any time. Great people.
My cat needed a vet as something was stuck in his throat. I brought him here, was seen to very quickly. The vet called me later to let me know how he was doing. All in all, it was as pleasant experience as could be. Cat was happy. Staff were very professional and caring. I didn't like the bill, but what can you do...
They were very compassionate as they helped our Buddy pass away with peace and dignity.
We have had to bring our dogs here unexpectedy on several occasions. They provide wonderful service and are always upfront about cost. Prices are expensive but if not for them I am sure our mischevious beagles wound not be with us still.
First experience, when my lab went into insulin shock unexpectedly, professional, considerate, patient staff in the late hours. I appreciate very much they are there doing the fine work they do.
Very good with your pets but I found it costly..if it is not an emergency then I suggest going to your own vet..otherwise if an emergency they are always available to look out for your pet.
I found them to be effective and pragmatic. They treated my sick puppy quickly and helped me understand what they discerned to be the most likely problem.
Best Hospital. And I have to say thank you Dr.Blair.
My cat woke up on Sunday morning with extreme shortness of breath and wheezing. I called VCA, and they were so kind and helpful over the phone. My cat was seen quickly, and the communication was awesome throughout the day. She is recovering at home and we were provided with all the medication we needed as well as home care instructions, and all records were shared with her usual vet. I think I spoke to Shawna on the phone, and my pet was seen by Dr. Meghan Haley, who explained all the procedures and results to me over the phone. I only recently moved back to Victoria after living in a more remote community for the past few years. Yes, it cost about a month's rent, but I'm just so grateful that I was able to take my pet somewhere that had the facilities, time, and skills to treat her quickly and compassionately. I really appreciate that this team was available first thing on a Sunday morning. I'm sure there's a lot of easier jobs they could be doing, but they choose to be present for pets with some of the most critical needs. Thank you!
I had to bring my cat in when he was severely dehydrated and extremely sick. They were so so helpful for my little guy. The staff is so caring, and they walked me through everything I needed to know. They kept me updated on his condition and every step of the way. They took such good care of my cat, I couldn’t be more thankful! I’m so happy they were there to help immediately! Thank you so much!
Dr. Brown seem like to have an attitude. Wasn't very nice to me at all. Trying to answer her questions to the best of my ability, and she cops an attitude. Well if I am not sure I'm not sure ok! The place is very expensive don't take your pet unless it's almost at deaths door. Otherwise wait until the regular vet opens. I had better treatment from Customs agent then this place.
I have used the Central Victoria Vet hoapital for my pet family for decades. They are always so kind and professional. Just a lovely team. Thanks
Expensive but highly efficient and caring. Good service. Great equipment and friendly staff. I would recommend only using in the case of an emergency because the fees are much higher than a regular vet clinic, but I am grateful such a place exists, and they do their job well.
They quite literally saved my dog at 2 in the morning after she ate some moldy food and went into convulsions. Thank you!
You won't find more caring staff, we were there to drop off a wild bird that had hit our kitchen window, their compassion was sincere.
Late night emergency visit for pet's allergic reaction. Everybody was very friendly. Pet taken care of promptly.
I cannot recommend this place highly enough! I had to bring my cat MooShoo in during the night. It wasn’t a huge emergency, but I was concerned about her paw being swollen and she was in pain. Everyone there was lovely and compassionate and explained what was going on. I don’t remember how long we waited because there’s a Tim Hortons across the street and I’d wait forever to make sure she was ok! It’s 2 days later and my girl is walking around and her paw swelling has gone way down. Thank you so much for looking after our girl!
We had to say goodbye to our 17 year old cat late on a Sunday evening. VCA was excellent in considering his needs and were caring and compassionate with us. We greatly appreciated their support.
The staff here is always friendly and professional, and I never have to worry whether my pet will receive proper care. The vets always present adequate information and choice for treatment so you don't feel pressured to agree to something that is not only expensive but may be unnecessary or unhelpful.
I brought my rabbit in for an unexpected seizure, it was great. She was there from about 4-8pm, and they were amazing with her. Willow was not scared, tense, or traumatized after the visit. They provided us with the needed medication with no extra fees.
This probably the worst place to take your loved ones in Victoria. Dr Lynette Browne was condescending and very rude. She not only treated us very poorly they made us wait and wait, we were at their mercy. The estimate was more than double other places. They also made threats of calling the SPCA if we didn't go through with the procedures they proposed. We went to another vet that was much better, did a great job, treated us with respect, and was half the price. If you are desperate, I still would consider somewhere else.
Fast and friendly
Fast and friendly staff. Took wonderful care of my dog! Thank You!
Emergency pet visits are very fast and can save your loved one from disaster. Great doctors and staff all around.
They keep all the cats and dogs in the same area (that’s good for a cat!) Our poor cat was traumatized and took one week to recover after staying in the hospital for 2 nights after they couldn’t find anything. No love for animals here. No recommendations on what we should do, just additional costs of tests that may or may not be needed. Thank god there’s something in Langford now and these hacks have competition.
Just watch your wallet their no expense here. They know how to get every penny out of you
It was okay
Nice staff. The facility is tricky to get into as its undergoing renovations. They corrected and refunded money off the original invoice which was nice of them to do. Puppy had to stay 24 hours but seemed to be treated well.
A bit pricey, but open 24/7
We had a scare that one of our cats had ingested a thumbtack so we immediately called CVVH. We were told there would be a $160 examination fee with an additional cost for the x-ray. We were willing to pay whatever price for our baby, but since the x-ray wasn't included in the examination, we asked what it entailed. We had already checked the throat, so there wasn't much else that could be done without an x-ray. The woman beat around the bush, using vague language, ultimately concluding to disclosing absolutely nothing, which actually revealed quite a lot, as in the $160 examination was hardly more than a cash grab. I am appalled that these people would take advantage of those in distress. If they had just said the x-ray was $160, that would have been more than acceptable. We found the thumbtack shortly after the call was made, so our baby is fine and dandy. However, we will NEVER bring our babies here and we'll make sure to warn others as well.
They do good work but VERY pricey compared to others during reg hours. Also was bought out by the Mars Corporation (which is insane as they own a ton of vets across Canada and no one wants to work for them) thus run like a corporation vs animals and the love for them being 1st. The only place to go for an after hours emergency so make sure you have pet insurance!
My cat went to VCA due to a very delayed bowel movement. Everyone who helped him & communicated with me was absolutely incredible. The vet took time to explain various possibilities/options and answered all of my questions thoroughly. The experience reassured me that he was receiving the best possible care! Thank you so much to everyone who helped today.
I brought my cat for an emergency urinary catheter procedure. It is expensive and I did not like their bill system(they give you an estimate and tell you they don't know how much their final bill will be. Be aware). But this is the only 24 hours veterinary clinic in Victoria so I do appreciate their late night service.
24 hour energency pet csre Awesome staff.
I was very pleased with the professionalism and clear communication from the vet while having my limping cat examined. The support staff were great too, they clearly love their work. I should add that the vet gave me options as well - at home treatment or minor surgery. There was no attempt to up-sell or push the more expensive option. The at-home treatment turned out to be successful. I call this good value!
I am unsure as I if yet. My cat was vomiting blood and we were waiting 4.5 hours to be told we can go home and wait for the doctors call. The animal was left there. So at this moment not impressed. If a human was puking blood and lots of it. That is immediately triaged. Not in animals I suppose. Yet I'm sure the cost is going to be high. I will leave another review once we finally have the outcome.
Unfortunately I would not recommend this clinic, but they are the only after hours option so you may have no choice. It is going to be expensive if you don't have pet insurance - be prepared. We waited a long time last night and Dr. Browne's bedside manner was not good - both in lack of empathy and explanation of options. She told me she didn't have time to explain the reason for an x-ray as she had other patients to see. I am fairly well educated. If I had not had some confidence in my ability to understand and analyze information this would have been a much more stressful encounter in an already stressful situation as our kitten had aspirated water and was in respiratory distress. We knew from other online reviews, past experience with our dog (who had pet insurance), and interactions with owners, that this emergency clinic was prone to provide an expensive care plan without concern to budget. We did not agree to the care plan proposed ($1500-$2500 with lots of testing) but instead, at 10pm, and after waiting 2.5 hours to speak with the vet, agreed to x-rays (at insistence of Dr. Brown who informed us this would be critical to have before morning and told us in a very disapproving manner we'd need to sign we declined their full care plan), oxygen, iv, antibiotics and an overnight stay. Phoned at regular intervals between 11pm and 2am to find the results of the x-ray and found they had been taken by 11pm but not read until 2am. Was not really impressed by this as the reason we had agreed to the xray was Dr. Browne had emphatically told us it could make a difference to the care our kitten received - and then she waited three hours to read it! Finally, had the doctor call us at 2:30am with the xray results, and an excuse as to why she had not returned our previous four calls stating that normally the matter is transferred over to the morning vet to contact us. Weird response when we had informed the staff repeatedly that we really wanted to know the results and were waiting anxiously, could not sleep, and were promised each time we called the vet would call. Dr. Browne also told us that because we hadn't approved their care plan our kitten might be discharged in the morning by the vet who was on staff before our regular vet could see him (he was at the emergency clinic in the morning for a shift and this is the reason we'd wanted to wait). He wasn't and we just picked him up at 7pm. My view is that this clinic is in business to make money and it shows. They provide a much needed service and there are some caring staff, but the focus on an expensive care plan comes at a cost to animal welfare imo. There is no doubt it is in the best interests of pets to have every type of testing, but there needs to be some adjustment to a reasonable budget without the attitude or pets that could be treated in a less extensive but precautionary manner are instead going to be euthanized when owners are presented with, as the patient care rep stated, "the gold standard care plan" in the thousands (and just to start) for a matter that could be managed in a more cost effective manner first. My feeling is this is a corporate directive couched as best interests of, and advocating for, animals. Fine line but definitely no attention to this matter from the vet, only the patient care coordinator seemed aware of this. I would also guess from the way our final $1270 bill for a one night stay and which still included items we had not authorized but didn't have the energy to contest, is divided, that the vets are being paid based on a percentage of billings in this clinic
The staff is caring and understanding, not to mention patient. They are willing to work with the clients who can't pay the bill right away. Overall I have always had great service every time I've dealt with them and highly recommend them to anyone.
Friendly and reasonable pricing for a pet hospital. Good communication.
Expensive but great service and they are professionals. If my dog ever needs surgery I would come back here.
The woman was horrible and talked to me like I knew nothing. When I informed her that I have knowledge and history of animal care she got even ruder.
Not a great experience. Also found the treatment room very dirty and dusty.
1 Star for the Vet on Duty - Dr. Browne - Thanksgiving Sunday (does not reflect other staff) wish there was a 0 star. My partner called in ahead to ask if our cat with speckles in his eyes should come in that day and it was recommended that we did. So we brought the cat in. Dr. Browne was incredibly rude, condescending and questioned why we were even there (when we were told to come because eye conditions can be serious). She barely looked at our cats eyes and didn't accept my advise of letting his eyes relax and trying to see the speckles rather than trying to pry his eyes open. Dr Browne brushed it off saying that we should just go see our regular vet and get referral for his eyes. No home care, no meds, no nothing. Fast forward to Wednesday evening. I come home from work and his right eye is a redish-brown colour with discharge. I call the clinic again and they recommend that I come in again. The vet on duty - Dr. Mcintyre - looked at his eyes for not even a minute and said that he needed testing. She immediately tested the pressures in his eyes and checked to see if there were any scratches. She came back and said that our cat has uveitis and that we should continue with testing. The staff and vet on duty that day were extremely kind and understanding and I am very thankful. Needless to say we are furious that Dr Browne allowed our cats eye to worsen and brushed us off. She let him go through this for 3 days and completely wasted our time. Warning to all other pet owners: if Dr. Browne is on duty, ask for someone else or take your pet elsewhere. She is the absolute worst. I've been to this clinic before for my family dog and never have my pet or myself been so poorly treated. Dr Browne should get out of the business if she doesn't care - which it really seems like she doesn't.
Here’s the quote I received for a small dog spay! If you can, please never take your beloved pet here. Unfortunately, they are the only clinic open 24/7 other than waves. However! Waves will not do surgeries after hours, but they sure will charge you a $400 referral fee!
A hospital so open more often than a regular vet. Steep prices, owners beware.
Compassionate, prompt and attentive service. That said, hopefully we won't have to visit ever again!
The staff here are so awesome! I can't say enough good things about them. I really appreciated the round-the-clock updates on our cat, and Dr. Havens even did a follow up call to see how he was doing once he was home again. Thanks again for all your hard work to save our little guy!
They took the best care of my 6 month old puppy, Paris for her overnight stay with parasites. They took extra care to assure me that she was comfortable and recovering every few hours. The doctors and staff were very kind to Paris and I. She's home now and taking medicine with comprehensive instructions.
Angels. The staff here really take care of you and your pet in your time of need. When my own awesome vet at Sassenos Veterinary is closed or for surgical emergencies I go here. People need to realize it's the only facility south of Nanaimo so they deal with all emergencies on a triage basis, like any emergency room does.
Terribly expensive and unhelpful
Great service.
Always friendly, supportive and professional service. Thank you all so much! ❤
While the technicians and vets are very good and very knowledgeable, the staff and administration are beyond terrible. Urgent information is not communicated, files are withheld from other facilities, messages are ignored. There is basically a wall at the front desk that prevents pet owners from getting the care their pets need. And their prices are astronomical. I get that emergency care has different requirements, but charging up to four times what other places charge for basic services is terrible.
The veterinary receptionist almost caused us to overdose our cat with an opioid pain medication by not checking with the vet about whether his initial medication dose had already been administered before giving us discharge instructions. He could have died from her sloppy work ethic. I understand they were busy with delivering puppies but that must happen there sometimes, she was extremely rude and unprofessional in addition to putting my pet’s life at risk, kept taking a snitty tone at me. I expressed my surprise at the high price of the bill to my husband and she interrupted a private conversation to snottily inform me that “wrapping a cat in a towel and giving it a pill” is professionally referred to as “administering medication”. You’d think when you are giving them hundreds of dollars for half an hour of thei time they’d have a half decent bedside manner but apparently not. Would not recommend
I can’t thank the staff at this clinic enough for their compassion and care of my dog Leroy. They answered every question thoroughly and were amazing in taking care of and saving my dog as if he were theirs. From the receptionist to the techs to the vet I’m very grateful and thankful for you all. Thank you.
They got me in quickly, and took care of my dog's problem efficiently.
Been here twice. Both times great service. Really liked Dr. Royle. However it's a hospital using a trauma system, so if it's not an emergency it can be pretty slow.
Poor service
Amazing staff!!!!! Super competent doctor. Kind, caring and one of the best vet clinics I have been to. Could never recommend it enough!!!
Only been there once. Staff was friendly and helpful, there was a very long wait after my dog had been treated to see the doc and get her back but they were also very busy and it is a hospital so I'm sure sometimes that just happens. Also this is very expensive vet so i would only take my pup here for emergencies BUT on the other hand they are very fast and on the ball so it was worth it.
No one wants to have to go to an emergency vet but the staff here made it the best experience it could possibly be. Their setup for Covid where you wait in your car with your pet is great and ran smoothly.
All the staff there are super friendly and wonderful.
Everyone was so helpful, caring and comforting! It’s never easy having an emergency situation with your animal but it does make a difference having confident and caring people to help you through it. Thank you for serving with such compassion!
Took the time and care to explain things with us about our pup. Really kind and caring when it can to the process of helping our boy cross the ???? bridge. Gave us time and space. Definitely not an easy thing to go through but these folks made it just a little easier.
Friendly courteous staff and they took great care of my extremely ill dog ????
Incredibly rude staff and they threw a fit. And caused a scene when we ask simple questions about Aftercare in the bill. Failed to give us options with the care for out pet other the the absolute worst case scenario. Totally avoid if able
Hardworking, polite staff.
Just reading some of the negative reviews and thought I would share my thoughts. 10 days ago my dog was hit by a car. Multiple lacerations to his head, paws, and legs. If you have a seriously injured animal and you want to save his life it's the only place to go because it's an emergency facility. It's expensive but you should know that before you make the call to bring your pet in. Overall the service they provide is top notch, it includes home care and followup. Dr Johanson and Dr Kos are excellent Vets and the entire staff Marlene and Kath did a great job with us. They saved my dog's life.
The saff and Vet were very helpful and in looking after my dog.
Called before I took my dog here. Lady was very pleasant and great. The Tech that first saw my dog was wonderful and informative. However, the Veterinarian that assisted afterwords was very cold and not pleasant at all. There seemed to be tons of staff but not a lot of help. They left us in a room for two hours, with out an explanation. This is also a hospital, so it’s NOT first come first serve, it’s based on the injury of the animal. FYI. I feel like they could hav been more accommodating.
I love this clinic, they have been so helpful every time we've needed them. They've saved our dog's life twice over the years, and kept us in the loop with updates the whole way along despite the many hundreds of things they already had on their plates to do. They're always happy to help when we call with a concern regarding any of our animals, never once making us feel judged for accidents. Puppies are vacuumes, despite any and all attempts to keep every wayward thing out of their mouths, and no one will understand that better than a veterinarian! Thank you for all that you do.
After the very emotional last trip to the vet for my 17 year old beagle, I cannot help but feeling like I was somewhat shaken down and charged a small fortune to investigate a dead-end situation. If this happens to you, you'd better be very certain of what is needed and what is not, because hospitalization costs add-up very fast and VCA will not hesitate to offer you all the expensive options while you cannot think straight and you don't have the courage to say no. They took good care of my dog for her last 24 hours, but it cost a fortune.
Very attentive and caring.
From the moment we pulled up to this hospital, with our beloved dog in a medical crisis, the team at this hospital were top notch. Sadly, we had to say an agonizing and sudden goodbye but we can not thank the staff enough for their professionalism, care and compassion for him and for us during a very, very difficult time. From the help given to us in the parking lot to unload our 80lb boy from the truck onto the stretcher by a tech with her breakfast in hand, arriving to her shift, dropping everything to help us, to being so caring about how to manage him after he was gone, respecting our wishes to bring him back to our farm to rest forever. I have read reviews here about being over charged. I have been there too, where it seems unfair and unreasonable. People need to know that we were only charged an exam fee for many staff working on him and caring for us for well over an hour. At our worst moment, we were most definitely undercharged. All the staff earn a wage and every iv tube, needle, even saline, costs money. If we had to pay our own hospital bills, we would know better how much all the supplies and staff cost. We will be making a donation to the SPCA in the name of the hospital as a gesture of thanks for being so compassionate.
Great staff made a difference. We took our husky x collie cross in a month ago after she stopped eating and began to look lethargic. It turned out she had aspirated with salt water in her lungs. After some blood work we also found that she had a pre existing auto-immune conditon as well. We told them what we could afford financially and they prioritized their treatment to what was most likely to help her recover. Unfortunately she only worsened and we decided to let her go in peace instead of making her suffer. We spent about $4000 to give her a chance and the staff were there with us every step of the way. One of the vet docs was there for 24 hours working and actually came in to check on us after we put her down, to see how we were doing. The staff here are committed to getting the animals to recover, whatever it takes. If you have a limit to what you can afford to spend, tell them up front and they'll work with you to stay under it while giving your family friend the chance they need. I would recommend this hospital to anyone worried about their pet.
Very friendly and helpful!
From the receptionist, Theresa, to the technician to Dr Blair Gurney, everyone was kind, reassuring and compassionate. And not only to my cat but also to me, the pet owner. It’s never easy to have to make the decision to euthanize a pet, but they certainly guided me through the process thoughtfully and respectfully. Very professionally run by people with big hearts.
A mess, no parking, bad communication, wait time enormous, can't go in with your pets, don't seem to care about your pets.
Put our old friend Gauge to sleep, they were quite caring...and I'll never forget the experience as long as I live. Thanks to the awesome staff. Really supportive. Thank-you...big hugs to all.❤️
These folk care about your best friend. I had the best experience ever???????? recently here. Thankful for the way the group works. Great karma here.
Had our dog there over Christmas...he was treated so well that he almost didn't want to come home. Thanks for the great care.
2am emergency visit. The doctor was excellent.
While the experience meriting a visit here was incredibly awful, the staff and vet whom I dealt with were kind and compassionate. Our elderly rat with chronic health issues deteriorated suddenly and the need for a sudden and final vet visit was required. I would like to note that they were very welcoming despite our more unusual pet. After a short wait we were seen and the vet examined him while taking his history. She listened to me describe his past care and medications and assured me that I was making the right decision. I made the choice as to the method and they left me with him to day goodbye. I was never rushed at any point. They kindly offered a box and when I returned home I saw that they had left some small flowers with him. It was a small touch but it meant the world. Should a situation arise again, although I hope it never will, I would definitely come here again.
Staff was excellent and caring. Made the visit much better than it could have been.
Treated my pet great. Quick to come to our aid with answers to questions about care.
This hospital is extremely expensive. I took a sick puppy here and they booked her for a bunch of unnecessary tests and then quoted nearly $2000 for an IV. I took her to a smaller vet a few blocks away and got the same IV treatment for $80 and a much better level of service.
Very friendly and helpful, as my dog had complications with her birth, as she had a still birth. After giving her some meds and tlc she was able to birth the remaining 3 pups. Thank you VCA for all her care.
This place is great! Every time I have come here with a pet (twice)...they have been amazing. Respectful with feelings and finances:) If you need surgery for your pet...don’t go to VGH or RJH (they get angry). Arrange to come hear with your mom-human companion.
I've had to take my cat Oliver here 3 times for urinary blockage and crystals. The staff have been amazing with him and myself. They are genuinely happy to help your furry friends and do their best to make sure that you are in the know. You can tell that they are doing everything they can to help.
Very pleased with the vet and the techs
Was a great experience overall! They've got covid protocols in place to keep everybody safe. ????
Please do not go here unless your animal is absolutely desperately in need of immediate medical attention. Even if you think that they are in desperate need, evaluate this thoroughly before you commit to going here, as it will cost you a minimum of $250 to walk out of there having received no treatment and perhaps a simple medical exam. Let's go over how they run this business, and don't for a minute imagine these people as compassionate or even competent vets, these people are sheisters. First you have to wait in their depressing waiting room for a long time, it gives you time to stew. Then they take your pet away from you and hide them in the back in a kennel while feigning that they're treating your pet, while instead they're eliciting an emotional response from you to get you to panic about your pet. Then they sit you down in an examination room and let you stew for another half hour. Then a person dressed in their businesses scrubs who is supposedly a vet will come in, without really doing much of anything they will present you a piece of paper with two outrageous costs outlined on it for testing and treatment, one will be the "cheap option" ranging from $500-$800, the other will be the "full option" which will range from $1200-$4800, these numbers rarely stray from these outlines. They expect an emotional reaction so that you will pay them a lot of money to do a whole lot of nothing. They might do tests, and they may treat your animal, but they certainly didn't do either of those things for us when we brought animals in there. We made that mistake twice, never ever again. They will also hold your pet hostage if you refuse to pay their outrageous fees, trust me, this will definitely happen, you'll have to pay $250 for the "emergency admittance" and they will do everything in their power to keep you there. It's a money making scheming business that's run and operated by terrible people who don't care for people or animals. They're there to take your wallet, that's it.
A horrible place! They rip people off left right and centre. They rely on people’s love for their animals to scam them out of thousands of dollars. I was quoted nearly EIGHT THOUSAND DOLLARS for a small dog spay!! If you can, run as far away from this place as you can! I can not reply to Central’s response. So I’ll edit my own here. I’ve attached the quote sent from Central. We were given three options; pay the bill immediately and to be prepared for further expenses, finance the cautious nearly eight thousand, or surrender the dog to a rescue (understanding you will not be eligible to adopt her). My dog unfortunately had to be spayed at this horrible institution due to her rapidly declining health. Her name is Allison. We took her home and never heard from the clinic again. Maybe you deleted her file?
If you live in Victoria it is without a doubt worth the drive out to waves in Langford... This animal hospital is horrible, bad service, does not give good information about how the animal is. They overcharge and take advantage of you late at night saying they need to do surgery when they do not need to. Waves in Langford is 10/10 a better option when your animal is sick. If I could leave a 0 star rating I would.
Have been to this hospital twice in the last year and both times left poorer and much worse off than I'd come in. The first time I came in my eight year old cat was very lethargic and obviously sick. The vet thought it may be an abscess and so proceeded to shave my cat's ass and charge me 1400 dollars before telling me they had no idea what it was. The next day I took my cat into the Shaw Clinic in Fairfield. The vet there took a 5 minute look, gave us a dewormer and some liver support and sent us out the door. The cat was much better within days and I don't think the visit to the Shaw location cost more than two hundred dollars. My most recent experience was just this past weekend. We took our cat in for a routine dental extraction and when we got him home he was completely lame in his right back leg, unable to bear weight. My suspicion (I am a physiotherapist for humans) is that they managed to tear a ligament (possibly his ACL) while he was under sedation for his dental procedure. When I took him back I had to pay for more X-rays which were (surprise, surprise) inconclusive. Avoid this facility like the plague. If my cat is sick at night again, I sure hope he can last 'til morning as I'm definitely not using this clinic ever again.
Not fastest
We’d like to thank the wonderful staff at VCA for taking such good care of our little dog, Luna! It’s always a worry when your fur babies aren’t feeling well, but the staff there was caring and professional, going above and beyond for her. They made sure she had a soft bed and got lots of love, as well as the help she needed. We’re especially grateful to Dr. Blair Gurney. He’s a wonderful veterinarian, and we knew she was in good hands with him. We especially appreciate his kindness and calm manner. We can’t thank him, and everyone else who helped us enough for looking after Luna! ❤️????❤️
Good vets. Very clean
Extremely disappointed with the vet's bedside manner at this hospital. Dr. Bolliger was completely lacking in empathy towards our dachs. He spoke in a very cold tone and paid little to no attention to our concerns. He was rough when handling our dog and caused her further necessary spinal discomfort. I can't understand how somebody so lacking in bedside manner and empathy becomes a vet specialist. Beyond that, he essentially told us despite his examination he couldn't do much without a CT scan, hoping to sucker us into an easy 2-3 grand on top of the 200 just to have him feel our dog's spine and tell us everything we already knew. Would not recommend seeing this specialist. The front desk staff and pre-exam nurse were all around pretty friendly although clearly overworked and very busy.
Awkward to get to with the current construction, but great, efficient service.
My 1 year old American Staffordshire terrier was in a small scrap May long weekend. With most vets being closed we had no choice but to go to VCA. When we arrived to check in the other dog that was involved in the scrap (which bit me several times in attempt to separate them) was there. As soon as I walked in the door that dog was growling and barking at me, as well as anyone who looked at him. Anyways, after a long 2 hour wait outside we were finally assigned a room. This nurse didn’t try to introduce herself to my dog AT ALL, she just grabbed my dogs paw and my dog flinched at her. The nurse then refused to perform the exam herself and said we had to wait for a doctor. So another 45 minutes goes by and we get put into the exam room again to see the doctor. One of the ladies at the front desk came in and asked me to muzzle my dog (even though I talked to the owner of the dog that bit me and growled at every person in the clinic and they did not ask to muzzle her dog?), I said that’s no problem but I would need help since I couldn’t use my hand. This lady didn’t even know how to put a muzzle on... she didn’t know which way it went and we had to try 3 different ones. So now my dog is muzzled snd stressed and the doctor comes in. She wants to get my dogs heart beat (without even introducing herself to my dog) she literally pushes her up against the wall and pins her with her knee. At this point my dog is wiggling around and growled. The doctor then REFUSED to look at her even though she was muzzled. She demanded she gets sedated just to be EXAMINED. I refused to allow her to sedate my dog for a physical exam. My friend asked for directions on how to keep the scratch clean and she refused to give any cleaning instructions or suggestions. It just really seemed like they did not give a damn about my pup and were very rude because she is a “pitbull”. AVOID THIS CLINIC AT ALL COSTS. They do not care about the animals and just want your money.
Arrived at this center with my cat who rarely leaves the house, was sad to see that you are forced to wait outside while the receptionists take your information. There was an abundance of heavy duty machinery less than 10 feet from us doing construction on a plot next door. Can't believe they don't allow people in the waiting room (I know some covid procedures are in place, but surely some exceptions could be made for frightened animals) and ask people to wait in their cars. The amount I was quoted just for an inspection was ridiculous, I will definitely not be returning. Receptionists were friendly.
A quick scroll through these reviews really proves how different experiences can be. I was advised to take my cat here by my regular vet after he swallowed a large amount of string, and my experience was very positive. Seamus was seen right away and the doctor on shift (Dr. Van der Lee) was very kind and informative. I found them to be very upfront about the costs involved in the visit and they provided me with a detailed breakdown to approve before going forward with any treatment. Dr. Van der Lee gave me a few options of care, depending on my financial position, one of which included taking him home to wait it out to see if he passes it - so I would not agree that they only wanted to take my money. She really informed me of all the options possible, their pros and cons, and then let me decide. She made herself available to me in any way I needed. Yes, it is more expensive than your regular vet visit, but this is a 24/7 Emergency Vet clinic with specialized care and if you bring your pet here you should expect to pay more, regardless of what it is, because it costs more to run. Period. Also, they let me hang out in the back kennel with Seamus for as long as I wanted, I got to see them in action and there was care and compassion with every animal I saw them with.
My precious puppy had surgery to be spayed a week ago. She/we were treated with respect for ourselves AND in dealing with covid 19 caution requirements. I received an update call from the doctor after the surgery and had my questions answered. All staff were helpful. Although I hope to never need their services again, I am thankful they are near by.
Never would I return. A huge thank you to the Vet Dr. Johanans who refused to do the kindest thing possible and let my boy Jasper go. He suffered with Seizures which no meds changed. I tried for 4 years with the help of my amazing Vet, Dr. ADrian Russell. It was time, he had several which were severe enough he couldnt'walk for hours after. I knew it was time. The vet told me I didn't do enough to medicate him for the seizures and no way would she euthenize. She said she would not becuase he was healthy dog other than the seizures and I didn't help him. How could she know anything about him after looking at him for 15 minutes. She knew nothing of his history and I was upset and couldn't tell her all the names of the drugs I had tried. After hours being there (he had another seizure in hospital) she was so unkind to me, and I brought him home. So a huge thank you to that vet, who made jasper go till the next day to go to a truly amazing vet who knows what it means to avocate for animals, Dr Adrian Russell of GRace Vet. You may want to rethink your own actions. My Jasper is in peace now, and not due to this vet hospital She really should be ashamed of herself.
It was a sad day when I had to say goodbye to my four legged friend but they did their best for me and my dog Rhett. Thank you
Great experience, doc gave reasonable options, and within a day, all good, thanks guys!
Had emergency with my cat; was booked in for surgery within a couple hours
Beautiful new reno, inside. Has become more of a big deal and no longer has the feel of the neighbourhood vet. Still have to wait when I am punctual!
Amazingly kind people.
These folks are Heroes to animals. I truly appreciate their work. They are very good to my kitty and help him when he needs it. The only reason I gave them four stars is because this emergency service costs an excessive amount of money which is difficult to swallow.
Vets took great care of my kitty & saved his life ! Cannot thank them enough. Expensive, but for our furry family member, no number is "TOO MUCH" :)
First class help from everyone. Considerate and kind. Speedy service at a busy time.
Put down my little Ninja rat tonight. They were so wonderful, and I even got discounted a considerable amount of money. Just charged me for the Euthanasia but not a checkup charge. They put Ninja in a box with flowers, and game me a paw print ???? free of charge! It did take a good amount of time, but I expected it! Only 24 hour place there is in Victoria. I even had questions an hour later so I called them up and they told me answers in detail and kindness. It is expensive but I totally recommend to anyone who has pet problems after hours. Cheers!
Central vet sells effective emergency treatment. Yes they use a triage process so it can feel like you are being ignored, but they know that they are doing and they charge for it. If you have a real emergency there are no other options. Luckily this place is experienced and because of their efficient treatment our dog was able to keep his eye.
The staff at Central Victoria Veterinary Hospital really made a scary and upsetting situation so much easier. They were kind, patient and informative with me (despite me crying non-stop) and they took fantastic care of my cat (despite him being angry and aggressive). The on-duty vet would call me twice a day with updates and the visiting hours made it easier to be apart from my little guy. Thank you so, so much!
This place is criminal, they have no problem holding your animal ransom until they get their money.
staff and Doctor Gurney were very compassionate and professional about the lose of beloved pet Jeffy. much thanks to them..!!
The vet told me I should put my cat down after he suffered a stroke. After doing internet research I discovered most cats fully recover from strokes and the first 24 hours are the worst. 2 days later my cat was perfect. A vet should have known this. Terrible job. When I brought him in after the stroke she didn't even touch him to check him. Just made us pay $300 for nothing. Not the first time this has happened at this clinic
They have treated all four of my GSD's at one time or another. Two of them had torsion. A very serious situation. They were triaged promptly and entered into surgery almost immediately. They were both saved. My senior was given an ultra sound on the urging of his chiropractor. The clinic discovered a mass on his spleen. Even though he was 12.3 years old at the time I went ahead with surgery. When the pathology report came back it showed he had a very aggressive form of cancer called Hemangiosarcoma. The surgeon, Dr Bolliger I believe was his name, got the spleen out without rupture. These dogs typically survive 6 weeks to 80 days. He is now 14 years and 4 months old. Yes this type of service is not cheap. They are running a hospital. Like was previously mentioned here consider getting pet insurance. I did as I did not want finances to factor into any decision I made in regards to my pets.
Came in with a puppy with a hurt leg. Turned out the pup was being over dramatic, they told us she was fine and sent us on our way free of charge. Only having had our newest pup for 3 weeks a half hour of hollowing was very worrying and they easily could have racked up a bill.
Great professional veterinary service after hours. We've taken our pups here in a number of after hours emergencies and always received fast and professional service.
In Ontario I was charged 3300 for a GDV (Bloat) surgery. Here I was quoted 5000 to 8000. Although technicians were truly wonderful and compassionate.
great staff, they're there for you when you need it most. just very expensive.
Incredibly expensive, but they do their job.
Professional
Very professional and caring vet hospital. They are currently under renovation and have a good system in place for covid precautions. You must call when you arrive at the clinic and then you speak to someone over the phone. After they admitted my dog, I waited in my car while he was examined and then the first person that checked him out (not the vet) called to give me an update. Then about 10-15 mins later the vet called me to give me her report. She patiently described my dog's issue and gave me two options: home care or hospital admission for one night, detailing very thoroughly what would be entailed for each option. I believe she was surprised I chose the hospital admission honestly, as she went quite deeply into the home care instructions. Then they drew up an estimate and emailed it to me, which I received on my smartphone. The receptionist called me back to ask if I received/read it, and took a deposit over the phone. (The deposit was for the minimum amount of the estimate.) I had to reply to the email that I accepted the estimate, then I left. I got a phone call the next morning at 6:15am from the vet on call and he gave me an update on how my dog did overnight and said they were satisfied he could go home and that I could pick him up at 830am. To pick up, I called again when I arrived, and then they have a special area around the side where someone comes out with your dog to do the hand off. I got a little bag with instructions, medications, and my dog's name printed prettily on the front. Oh and I also received a small refund of my deposit! Unexpected. Yes it was expensive, but vets in Victoria are expensive anyhow and you should expect to pay extra for emergency care. (My regular vet was not available to see us.) That being said, I do not feel as if they gouged me or performed unnecessary tests. I will use them again when needed.
I found the whole staff to be very caring and professional. This can be a busy place but worth the wait.My dog Wesley was treated with a lot of TLC.
We've had to take our dog Kiwi here on several occasions and we've always had great service and care. Everyone is so good to her and I feel like she's in good hands, even though it's always incredibly stressful. Thanks for all that you guys do for animals, it's not an easy job and I definitely couldn't do it!!
Excellent
Literal lifesavers, never had anything but amazing care here from people who obviously deeply care about animals, would recommend to any and all pet owners
Thanks for taking care of my Chubby! Only downside is that it's really pricey :( but the service is amazing
Our cat has been receiving chemo for cancer, so we have been seeing the oncologist. The treatment is individualized for our cat. The staff are aware of the cost of treatment and try to keep the costs down while still providing first class service. The staff are all very caring people, and very good at explaining things.
I dropped my dog off here on a Tuesday due to back pain, at the time, she also was having early symptoms of an ear infections. The back pain was the more extreme issue so that was the focus main of the visit but I had told reception about the ear issue as well, knowing it could turn into something worse if not addressed quickly. I took her home that day after paying a large vet bill and after no mention of the ear issue from the vet, I assumed they had looked at it and thought everything looked okay. Well a few days later and my dog has a severe ear infection which was causing her enough pain to keep me and her up all night. I returned to the clinic today to get it sorted out and they had nothing but excuses and charged me another huge bill. I was told that because they are emergency only, they can only address one issue at a time. That’s maybe understandable, but that would have been great to know on Tuesday instead of allowing me to think otherwise, and allow the issue to fester. It’s not even strictly about the money or my time, it’s about the fact that VCA’s bureaucratic system forced her ear issue to fall through the cracks and cause my dog extreme pain and discomfort. I’ve had other bad experiences at big corporate VCA clinics in the past but this sealed the deal that I will never be returning. Go support your independent clinics and veterinarians! They are the ones who truly care about your pets wellbeing.
The cost was astronomical to get our cat put down.. it was heartbreaking ????
Absolutely no empathy. Definitely felt like they were taking advantage of me when I was panicking about the welfare of my dog. Not only did they not seem to care, the vet on duty did not know what the medication was. And told me to call the poison call line where if you ask a question it is $65USD and during this automated response, it asks if "you are not okay to pay this, go see your vet" and hangs up. Tangent aside, I called back when asked how to induce vomiting to be safe, they told me they wouldn't recommend doing it yourself, so please bring your dog in. Which would be $187 for an examination and $40 to induce vomiting via intravenously. When I said I don't even need the exam, they told me nope, exam needed. Thankfully I was able to speak to another vet who told me, even if my dog ingested the full pill, she would be OK, on top of that told me how to induce vomiting for no charge. I am absolutely disgusted with this place disguised as an animal hospital and would only come here as a last resort.
These guys are great. I’ve been there many times with various emergency situations (my dog’s pierced ear drums and bleeding intestines to name two of many visits) ...they’ve been amazing every time. The staff are friendly and compassionate and they’re clear and upfront about the options available and the costs associated with each option. I don’t feel “sold to” It’s more expensive than a normal vet but it’s such peace of mind to know there’s a place I trust to go when something goes wrong, invariably on a weekend or after hours. Recommended.
Open 24/7 365. Large staff, very well equipped. Had a good experience with Dr. Brown and reception the last time I took my dog in. Would give 5 stars except for telephone reception service on a previous emergency issue I had when it was impossible for me to access the clinic because I was on a small Gulf Island and the ferry was not scheduled. I was refused information that may have helped my dog without bringing her in. Unfortunately she passed away and I swore I would never deal with them again. Circumstances saw me at their office in another emergency with a different dog and I had a better more compassionate experience.
We had a tough choice to make, when our dog was seriously ill. The staff supported us wonderfully in making the right choice. ????
We brought our pup here on the weekend on the staff was very courteous and quick to see our dog. Prices are reasonable as well.
The team are great, compassionate people. They took care of my ailing dog Dixie and made the transition for the end of her life as easy as possible. Being an emergency city veterinary hospital the cost can be steep, however it's a small price to pay to help our pets.
I have waited with my pet for one and a half houre after I call them. And after that I called again and they totally forget. And they said some tech will call me in 5 minutes and I waited for half hour no body called so I decided to return home because I spend 2 houres in total outside in the car and hot sun with my sikk Budgie he almost die so I decided to return home and try to treat him at home if I can. It was the worst experience for me and my son because he was with me also the worst for my pet.i will never come back again.
Aside from the price and the panicked feeling knowing my dog was unwell, the staff were honest, compassionate, and trustworthy. I knew he was good hands.
In the days leading up to me bringing my cat to this hospital, my cat was vomiting and dry heaving in-between vomits. At first it seemed like she was coughing up hair balls which she did but later on she was still vomiting, I thought nothing of it as she was still eating and drinking water acting normal but the vomiting still continued. On the day of the emergency visit to the Vet hospital my cat was fine all day, I returned home from work and she greeted me like usual. In the late evening, all was fine, my cat went to her dish again and may have ate I didn’t really notice but then she started vomiting and then collapsed on the floor, immediately I knew something was wrong cause of her opened mouth and her eyes were open wide. I picked her up and she was limp, I thought she was choking. I called the emergency vet, told her my cat was in distress, I was told to bring her in. I was there within 20 minutes after googling the address. I am grateful they took her in right away and put her in an oxygen tank where she improved within the hour. After talking with the Vet, she said my cat was stable and breathing on her own but still in the oxygen tank, she said my cat was not good. Looking at my cat, yes she not good I get that but…I told the vet all the symptoms my cat had over the last couple of days, she never mentioned to me if she checked if my cat had a fever or even told me if her temperature was checked. The Vet wrote all that I was saying, then proceeded to tell me that they can do and xray, take blood work (blood work was never done in the end) and see what was going on and then left the room. Ten minutes later one of her assistants came in with a paper that had the costs of the procedures they can do to treat my cat. They called it a “Low Amount” and “High Amount” two separate costs. I looked at the paper; my only thought was, do it! I want my cat to get well. I left my cat in care with this hospital, gave them my number to contact me and this was after I paid $1000 from my credit card. So I leave thinking my cat is in good care, two hours later in way early morning hours I get a call from the vet telling me my cat has made a turn for the worse and that I need to be there right away as she is ready to pass away. I asked her if she gave my cat something for the nausea, she fumbled on her answer to me not answering and changed the subject and said I need to go there now. Now that I think about it, the only treatment that was given to my cat was placing her in an oxygen tank, nothing else. I arrive knowing the worst is going to happen, before that could happen the Vet explained to me showing me x-rays of my cat and all the problems she noticed. Nothing she said explained my cat’s sudden health deterioration. Then came the words no pet owner wants to hear, “we need to give your cat a peaceful passing” I think it’s better to put her sleep and end her suffering. Time stopped, I went numb and I knew my choice was made and I need to do what’s best for my cat. I agreed to have my cat put to sleep, I wish the Vet hadn’t sedated her before bringing her to me, I’m not sure if my cat knew who I was when I held her in my arms. I held her for 5 minutes and the vet came in and I let her put her to sleep and it was over. In hindsight: I think I didn’t ask the vet the right questions on what was the best treatment for my cat, I get my cat was struggling breathing and putting her in an oxygen tank was a good thing. Why didn’t the vet check to see if she had a fever? Why didn’t she give my cat something for the nausea? Did the vet think I was unable to pay for the bills I willing to endure to save my beloved cat? I find it too coincidental that in the end that the cost of my bill was the amount taken from my credit card and this was after my cat was put to sleep. Was euthanizing my cat a decision the vet made before the quote was given to me and looking at me thinking I would not be able to afford the medical bills. That’s the $1000 dollar question the vet took from me and I will never know.
First of all you have to understand that this clinic operates as a business first and foremost, even though the doctors have their hands full and for the most part do a good job, but because of the foundation of money that is how the majority of the employees (especially management) treat their job ( I wouldnt be surprised if bonus structures were in place for profitabily) also there is a breakdown when it comes to communication with each other at this clinic from beginning to end. Brought my cat in because he was sick and I felt that he couldnt wait until tomorrow to see regular vet. Was told he needed over night care and blood work, ok, sure i'll sign the quote of Maximum $1300. Ended up staying 4 days ( really only 3 but they scheduled a pick up for 1 hr into the next day so i got an extra charge for that. Not only that, but as soon as I told them I had pet insurance they prompted me to get extra tests done for Cancer and such. After he was given all these tests we noticed that his age in his chart was written as 10yrs old, he is only 2,hence all the tests, was told by regular vet that most of these tests were unneeded. He was so doped up of course he is not going to want to eat, and they wouldnt let me take him until he would eat. Also had 4 seperate doctors giving me different reports. End Bill $3300 which they miscalculated with my pet insurance, and even though I did the calculation in front of them myself (which i do for a living) they would not let me see or take my cat home until paid in full. Use this place "ONLY IF DIRE" I am in the process of seeing how much profit this place makes, I believe care for loved ones should not be for profit. And if at the end of fiscal year, profits either get donated or go into actual business ..... I gaurentee you that someone is making a lot of money Thinking about rounding up investors to start compitition, which I think any true animal lover would be proud to work at, and still be paid well, and make it affordable for everyone, especially those without pet insurance. Also give clients the piece of mind that they are supporting an ethical business. Central Victoria Veterinary Hospital, its not to late to be moral. Do the right thing and start operating ethically
Thanks to the excellent staff and their quick response I still have my most awesome canine companion Zancudo. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Saved our dog. Enough said.
Exceptional care of our cat who got sick over the long weekend. Very professional service from everyone! Very happy with the care we received!
The staff there were so friendly and helpful when I had to bring my boy in after hours on a weekend when his ear got split. They gave me a few treatment options and explained the pros and cons of each. Forever grateful to the staff for being there!
We had to take our dog to the vet on a Saturday but our local surgery was closed. They recommended this place and the service was great. Friendly staff. Complimentary coffee whilst we waited for our boy to get fixed up.
Can't wait to see the end product when construction is done. Really appreciate the 24 hours open. ????
I wanted to extend the biggest Thank You to the staff of Central Victoria Veterinary Hospital. My cat was having many issues: he wasn't eating, very weak, and started having breathing problems. Thank God they are open during the long weekend, I brought my cat there and we got in fairly fast (20 minutes)... unfortunately, after getting an x-ray we found that my 16 year old baby boy had Lymphoma Cancer, tumours, arthritis, and fluid in his lungs. The staff made my painful decision easier, and their compassion helped me out in a time of distress. I wish I got to write of better circumstances, but I felt this staff cares for their four legged patients and the human parents during the times I went to their office. The staff were very busy, and even as busy as the place was, they gave me time with my cat in a room which they could have used... sure this place is very expensive, but the reason you're bringing your pet here is because it is an emergency.
New building is going to be awesome
was told 3 weeks ago that they had sent in all of my pets insurances forms, never sent a thing in and couldn't find any of the forms that we brought to them
I took my cat in with a urinary tract blockage and consequent problems with his kidneys. I was not expecting much in the way of service, and was afraid the bill would be unaffordable. I couldn't have been more wrong. They diagnosed the problem immediately, and gave me all the information I needed to make an informed decision about his care. They gave me a low and high estimate of costs, depending on the testing required, his response to treatment and the length of stay in hospital (2 vs 3 days). He ended up being in hospital almost 4 days, and every day, twice a day like clockwork, the doctor on duty phoned with detailed updates. We were able to drop in regularly to visit with him, which was a great comfort to my daughter. When I went to pick him up to take him home, I was thrilled he was better but dreading the final bill. Amazingly, it was at the very low end of the estimate they gave at the outset, despite his length of stay. They accomplished this by only doing tests that were absolutely necessary and keeping an eye on the mounting costs. I was so thrilled when presented with the bill, I gave the technician a hug! I was given thorough after-care instructions and information to take home with me, which was very helpful. The front desk staff were amazing; the aide who went over my bill with me (Tara) was incredible. The doctors were unbelievably good, all three of the ones I dealt with. The technicians I met were wonderful, and very caring. And the cost was half of what I thought it would be. I am blown away by my experience at CVVH, and very grateful to all of the staff for their assistance. Thank you!!!
Did a great job on daughters dog in an emergency could be a little more delicate with people in very high stress emotional situations
The only purpose they have is ‘making money’. They raise the price as much as they can, and the reason of raising the price is unclear. They tried to tell you the worst situation of your pet and made you pay more.
I will never be going here again. I had to bring my cat in for an emergency. They told me that I should consider putting him down because getting rid of a urinary blockage was so expensive, and that shelters would not have accepted him. (I did not euthanize my cat, I was lucky and had a friend to help, and an amazing regular vet to continue care at a MUCH cheaper rate). They have no payment plans, if you go and can't afford to pay after you get their fluctuating bill (their rates change depending on what time of day you're there), you don't get your animal apparently. Check the cost before hand if you have to go. At a previous visit with my other cat, we were stuck there for 8 hours with little to no information, and nothing was wrong with him. We couldn't even see someone to get that info to decide if we just wanted to go home and see our regular vet later. I get that they're a busy hopsital, but I had awful experiences both times I was there. I would never recommend to anyone.
Although very busy, the staff was very sympathetic and kind. Operating costs are higher, so more expensive then a clinic.
The staff went above and beyond making sure my dog and I were comfortable during our last moments together. Really appreciate everyone I interacted with there. ????
Super welcoming and reassuring folks. Wish the visiting hours were longer and it is pricey!
I used to work there so it is great. The doctors and staff are fantastic. Go there, get the best medical care available!!
I brought my rabbit in for an unexpected seizure, it was great. She was there from about 4-8pm, and they were amazing with her. Willow was not scared, tense, or traumatized after the visit. They provided us with the needed medication with no extra fees.
It was super expensive and never paid that amount before in my life. The dr. I had was Heather Veach! She only be concerned about collecting $600.00 which we didn't have at all for minor problem. That I thought would cost us $200.00 which I would have accepted! We got charged for things that never happened.... We never heard back from the doctor to give us our money back which was $50 at least the minimum we were asking in return. She wasn't a old cat either. She was only 4years of age. Now she is having problems again with a different situation and we believe it has to do with the hospital!! We don't have the money even more now since we took her there 5 months or so so ago. It upsets us because we are stuck. Her breathing is getting worse! I don't want to lose our little Himalayan Misty!
We are blessed to have this facility for our animals in Victoria. Have been here several times over the years for care for our cats.. two of our cats passed away here very peacefully with wonderful care up to the end. We also have gone for blood and urine draw and special procedures. If you have an emergency with your pet.. bring them here. They can help.
When I had an emergency with my elderly cat, the staff were very caring and gentle with me. I was an absolute emotional wreck and the vet and assistants were so kind. I cant thank them enough for how calm they remained around me. My cat is thankful too.
I would highly recommend them for emergencies. I have spent many visits since our little one broke his elbow. Everyone has been so kind and caring towards us, but most importantly, to George. Our surgeon, Dr. Sakals, has been amazing. She is so attentive and loving towards George and we know she truly wants the best for him. Our surgery was expensive but our care and level of service has been superior. PS - always fill out the link for one month of free pet insurance!!!!
Absolutely f****** terrible. Heartless pieces of sh** do not care about the animals.
Our dog was stung by a wasp and went into anaphylaxis. From start to finish the staff kept us calm and informed on our dog's condition and recovery. They quickly processed our Trupanion claim and provided us will all we needed for her recovery at home. Truly a well managed and staffed Veterinary Hospital, pet owners are lucky to have such an establishment here in Victoria. Thank for saving our dog.
Thank you so much for the care and kindness you gave to Monte.
This review has been a long time coming but five years ago Loki, my Rhodesian Ridgeback / Greyhound, got hit by a truck and one of his legs was basically gone except for the bone. The local vet where I was living at the time when they saw it told me I needed to amputate, but I told them to send all my information to Central. Central worked with me for months, rehabilitating Loki's leg and now he is 9 years old tomorrow - and still has four strong legs. I believe it was due to the expertise of their vets and their facilities that Loki was able to keep his leg. Thank you so much for everything you guys did!
The service was a bit slow and it was very expensive. But both these things are to be expected at an emergency clinic. However, it was unclear what services were being provided and I wasn't kept very well-informed during my visit. I looked on my bill afterwards, and my cat was sedated, which they didn't tell me about - and as she was there because she swallowed something and needed induced vomiting, sedation makes no sense because it would make the vomiting dangerous as she could asphyxiate! I know as an emergency clinic they have a monopoly over after-hours and emergency care, but I will be avoiding using this clinic again unless necessary.
Even though they were severely short staffed, they still took excellent care of my cat. The vet was knowledgeable and compassionate. Thank you!
Very fast and knowledgeable treatment, highly recommended!
Worst vet in the city. 165$ just to see the doctor, dog screaming in pain it’s been 39 minutes and the only attention my dog has gotten has been him getting shushed. How about do your job, it’s an emergency vet. 100% markup on all surgeries and services yet you can’t even sedate my animal? HORRIBLE bedside manner might I also add.
Very happy with the care that my dog received. The staff were kinda and considerate, and very helpful about explaining the after care.
Worst experience I have ever had at a vet. Would give zero stars if I could. My boyfriend and I brought our 8 month old cat in as she was having some issues (abnormal green discharge) - possibly due to infection and she is possibly pregnant. They didnt let me accompany her into the clinic. After 20 mins (or less) they called and let us know that they could not examine her properly as she was being overly aggressive and wanted to sedate her as it was unsafe for them to handle her??? My cat has never been aggressive or reactive. She has always been great at previous vet visits. She is 8 months and the sweetest little baby. Sedation could harm her and her babies if pregnant - I’ve never had to sedate an animal for an exam in my life! Other vets I spoke with said that this is absolutely ridiculous as they had no difficulty performing the exam! This is supposed to be an emergency clinic!!! How is it possible that they do not know how to handle animals??? I’m sure they see animals all the time that are not cooperative!! They said it was for staffs safety that they could not give her the care she needed. This is completely unacceptable, they would not allow me in to try to calm her down or hold her. In my eyes they wanted to sedate her to make more money or probably had a bigger case on the way where they could make more money. Totally money hungry organization. They charged $200 for an exam fee and did not do a proper exam! The vet was completely useless and listed all the things it could be in a very unfriendly manner - I already read those on the internet! I brought her in to get a DIAGNOSIS. Completely incompetent and will not be using this vet again. So disappointed. Avoid clinic at all costs! Update: my cat has a severe infection in her uterus after taking her to another vet for assessment. She needs surgery ASAP or she could die. They had no difficulty performing a THOROUGH exam and said she was the sweetest girl. They calmed her without any drugs or sedation and were very kind. VCA staff clearly do not know how to handle animals. They will be hearing from me, this is completely unacceptable - I do not want this to happen to other fur babies.
Not the place I like to end up at however, so glad it is there when we need it. Hopfully when the construction is done, "pet parents" will be allowed in to the new building with their fur babies. Current COVID restrictions don't allow for this.
The experience my dog and I had at this hospital was beyond Kafkaesque. I brought my dog, who was suffering from renal failure to the hospital at night. I accepted that he would probably be euthanized. The support staff were lovely. Dr. Oomah was informative but detached. Tiffany, the senior technician, prepped my dog for euthanasia. She didn't bother to pet or soothe my dog. Her first 2 attempts to insert a catheter failed, causing my dog, who was already suffering, to cry out in pain. He also cried when she injected him with a sedative. He has had injections before and never reacted. So either Tiffany is really incompetent or she is a sadist. The last hours of my dog's life didn't have to be so harsh. I wish he had had a more peaceful passing. Tiffany, If you are callous to suffering, time to change your job.
They tried to charge me $2500 so that my dog could stay over night connected to an iv for diarrhea and vomiting which had subsided (which was unknown to me) and prior to deciding this they had not done any testing at all (even though they had him for 3 hours) to even determine if an iv or overnight stay would be required (which it wasn’t). I went and got a second opinion and turns out my puppy just has bad gas lol unfortunate that they are trying to gouge clients for unnecessary procedures. Im glad i didn’t follow their recommendations and that i was able to get my sweet pup into a trustworthy vet who could provide him with the care he needed.
I would avoid this coperate dump at all costs. They are a complete money grab, charging as much as they can and openly admitting it. I see a big consolation in several of these outfits working together and developing a comer in the market removing choices for options to pet health care. The more you sign up for this compleatly over priced company, the more they are going to continue to push this over priced cooperate agenda and continues to push out companies that charge fair services. They have signs posted all through the facility reminding customers not to use bad language? How pathetic is it when a company has to post signs like that, I’m wondering if I’m the only one feeling like this company should crawl under a rock and allow fair services and prices back into VICTORIA
Dr Kirsty Elliott is one of the most passionate, understanding and caring vets I have ever met. She is a very special person.
I would highly recommend this animal hospital. They recently diagnosed my dog with pancreatitis and took him in immediately. The doctors, nurses and staff are caring and professional. I felt like my dog was receiving the utmost care and attention, and the doctors provided me updates twice a day. He came home after several days in hospital and seems to be out of the woods, resting comfortably.
I thought the service here was good. I had to take my dog in because we thought that she ate rat poison. They took her immediately and she was treated. It was an expensive visit but that can be expected at any vet clinic, especially if it is emergency service.
Prompt service! Friendly and professional! Very thankful they helped us with our cat!
Fabulous, caring staff that are responsive 24-hours a day. Thank you for taking such great care of our pets in need! We have had first-hand experience several times over the past 15 years. What an amazing team!
????
Everyone was so caring from the beginning about my dog with pancreatitis, and the Dr. was so nice, told me exactly what they would do.
Just awful.
The nurses were very good with my cat when I had to rush him in with stomach issues. They were understanding and made sure to keep me updated. I only gave 3 stars because of the crazy vet bill they stuck me with. I expressed concern that I cant afford much at all but want what's best for my baby several times. It wasn't until after he had been cared for and they Gave me a $4500 bill that they told me they charge twice as much as a regular vet and that they charge way more on weekends. They also failed to mention that there is a payment program available until I called back to ask. I would have gone about this process much differently if I had been properly informed.
What a fantastic group of animal care givers! You hope you never need them but they saved my dogs life and were so compassionate with a crazy dog mom !!
They took very good care of my dog. It was a busy night for them yet they cared a lot for my four paw child. He has recovered well from being so sick. I felt they did all they could for him not knowing his history and what was wrong. I was pleased with all of the service. Thank you.
I am so impressed by the top notch quality and compassionate care my sweet kitty received during our early morning visit. Every single member of the team was caring and reassuring from the moment we walked in the door. I felt my little guy was in very experienced and loving hands. The hospital also has a fantastic liaison, Lisa, who was there for me during this stressful and emotional time (the value of this particular service cannot be overstated). Was it expensive? Of course, this is EMERGENCY care. I'm so grateful to have this kind of service available 24/7. Somethings just cannot wait for regular business hours. Thank you guys, for everything you do.
Kept me waiting for two and a half hours when they said it wasn't busy. Then recommended my cat stay overnight and get an x-ray when the symptoms they described for him were not very serious. Seems like a money grab. Staff was nice though.
I got in for an appointment the same day which was perfect because I needed to bring my rat in right away. Carlie was so helpful and so kind, I really appreciated how friendly and welcoming she was. Dr. Frank was great and explained everything very well. I was very satisfied by the end of my conversation with her. Overall I am very happy with my visit and will definitely be coming back, despite the hour drive there!
I brought my 7 month old kitten to VCA hospital with a deep wound on her nose, I was worried that it might be infected or require stitches. I dropped her off with a very friendly vet tech, she advised me it would be around an hour but could be longer. It took just under 2 hours total but there were lots of things nearby to keep me occupied in that time. The vet called me, was very pleasant and thorough. I was very apprehensive given some of the reviews that I would be leaving broke. However, the visit and the antibiotic injection was just over $200. Thank you ????
We had to bring our cat in last week for a UTI & the staff were amazing every step of the way. Her infection came back after treatment completed so we returned tonight & had the same wonderful experience with everyone. They ask us for permission before performing tests & keep us in the loop while waiting outside which is really appreciated - as well as giving us all availabe treatment options & what they recommend. Could not be happier with the care given to our little companion!
Best place to take your animal..... We came in with our boy limping pretty badly on His hind leg, turns out he had patella luxation. A pretty bad case of it. We did the consult with the surgeon and he was great at explaining what was going to be done, the risks, the outcome and cost. That was a 4,000$ surgery. Turns out 2 weeks after surgery he somehow broke his leg, the same one we just had fixed. Dr. Boleger was AMAZING. he caped the next surgery at 1,000$, that included having him stay at the hospital for 8 days, his care, his medications, every 2 days he had a X-ray ( X2 as they needed both angles of the leg ). Pretty much everything. For those saying its all about the money, it sure wasn't with this Vet. We needed 2 x-rays for his leg as you would need to see if the second surgery took properly. It took a while but our boy is now back to normal. I would highly recommend this place.
Very well equipped, sensitive and professional staff.
We we have used the VCA for several pet emergencies over our many years of pet companionship. Recently we brought in our dog who went from an upset stomach to system crashing in a matter of hours. We are so thankful we have the VCA in our community. Our dog was on the brink of dying 30 minutes later would have been to late. They saved our sweet girl! Thankyou!
Very friendly, kind and efficient providing great care for our dog.
Avoid if possible unless your pet is experiencing a life or death emergency after hours and all other clinics are closed. Expect to pay 1.5x to 2.5x the cost of a regular vet. The prices make sense given that they have 24h vets on staff to deal with anything that comes up while your pet is staying there, but only you can decide whether it's worth double the price (especially when your treatment is running into the triple digits). We also found that the vets there were rushed, and too busy to properly explain things. They tend to take a more liberal rather than conservative approach in treating your pets- get a second, outside opinion if possible.
Best veterinary hospital on the Island. Great staff, caring veterinarians.
When we brought our senior cat in due to seizure, the front desk staff were polite and kind. However the vet on duty, Dr. Lynette Browne, was terrible. She was rude, brusque, I felt like she wasn't listening to our description of the problem leading up to the situation we were in. Before even hearing anything from us or running any tests, she wanted to euthanize our cat. Also asked us what we wanted out of the visit??? Like obviously we want you to treat the cat. Multiple times during the visit she was applying pressure to put her down, even after I agreed to pay the $1200 estimated cost of the procedures/overnight stay ("are you sure you can afford it?" - totally inappropriate). I wasn't going to put my cat down without first knowing what was wrong! She asked things like if the cat overdosed on anesthetic during the night should they resuscitate, which left me uncomfortable leaving my cat in her care, I just kept thinking what if she kills my cat. I decided that if we have to euthanize, I wanted my cat transferred to our vet near home, who actually cares about animals, because no way did I want that lady to do the job. The client care lady who collected our payment, Anne, was really good and sympathetic which was nice after the terrible experience with Dr. Browne. I bumped it up to 2 stars because Dr. Johanson the following day was muuuuch better. Unfortunately, our cat had another seizure the following morning and wouldn't have made the trip to the James Bay vet. Dr. Johanson was very empathetic, and gave us lots of time to say goodbye. I'm so relieved that she was the one to handle the euthanasia and not some callous person like Dr. Browne. If you have to go to this place and have a choice in the matter, I highly recommend AVOIDING Dr. Browne - your experience with her will leave a sour taste in your mouth.
Just don’t bring your animal here. We had a great experience when we brought our cat in so we came back when our dog needed emergency help. Huge mistake.
Very kind, abiding by new rules, and not far away
Only time visiting VCA, as our regular vet n/a for holiday. We have a very frail min. poodle (17 years) who experienced seizures for first time. Looking for guidance from VCA vet but got nothing but questions and no care advice moving forward. Her opening question "what would you like me to do?" My wife and i looked at her stunned. One star for the admin staff; they were able to refill a prescription.
Not being able to be in with your pet. An advocate for them and make sure treatment is right. Is something I would never allow to happen again with my pet in the vet. Went in for severe constipation. Died of heart complications when drowned by over hydrating. But not before we paid another $1,000 to try to save him and also had to sign the paperwork for euthanization and pay for that. Good job! Rest in peace my fuzzy friend
Our dog had heatstroke. They quickly admitted and began treatment within minutes. Probably saved her life!
2500$ just to diagnose what I already told them was wrong with my dog (I knew he ate something he shouldn't have). Then quoted 6000$ surgery for a 45 minute surgery.
My darling girl is feeling so much better now. Thank you so very much for the excellent care you gave her. And for the time you took with me to walk through everything and calm me down. It was a rough night. Thank you.
The absolute best care I've ever experienced at any veterinary clinic on the island. Our Boston Terrier had an eye emergency and he was seen immediately, referred to an ophthalmologist and booked for surgery the following morning. (WAVES told us they couldn't do enucleation surgery until March and our dog was in too much pain to wait that long.) This place is beyond efficient in their communication and care. I can't express how thankful we are to the staff, from Theresa when I phoned, who assured me we could just drive down and no appointment was necessary, the speedy check-in process and the constant updates from Dr. Ellingsen and Dr. Burns. There are no words to express how grateful we are to the team here, thank you all so so much for taking such good care of our baby, Bo!
Have been in twice in the last year, with my small pets, in the small hours. Detailed directions for my chinchilla, who recovered. Had too put down my ancient guinea pig, cancer. Let me sob in the exam room until I was ready to leave. Great staff
My puppy got bitten and had a cut under her eye that required stitches. We brought her in to this location at 5pm, everything seemed great, they got her in to see a vet quickly and were given a quote quickly (very expensive for just 1 stitch required $500-$800 we were quoted) we went ahead with it because that's our baby, money was no worry. We were told she would be out in 2 hours. We came back 2 hours later to find out that she hadn't even gone in yet! But they told us she would be going in shortly and to wait for them to call us. 2 hours later and no call, we called to check in, she still had not gone in!! At this point I got upset, she had a gash under her eye that was hanging open, she's just 9 weeks old and had never been away from us this long and she was just sitting alone in a 'play room' and not allowed to eat or drink. The front desk girl seemed to know nothing and we kept getting placed on hold everytime we asked a question. We were informed that she would probably be going in at 12am and we can pick her up in the morning, we said absolutely not, we would be picking her up as soon as she wakes up no matter the time of night. They let us, and she did get in a midnight. All in all they did a good job of the stitches, I wish there was another location open on a Sunday evening. But this was our only option. I just hoped that our baby puppy would've been a bit of a priority. And that there would have been more that just 1 doctor working.
I don’t feel is always right to leave a bad review on professionals such as veterinarians. For the most vets are compassionate competent individuals who do a very tough job, usually behind the scenes and with little recognition and well deserved appreciation , however I had such bad experience with this clinic that I feel my review may help others avoid what my pet and I went through. I brought my cat in distress and with pain. They made us wait for 8 hours without a treatment or examinations. They left my cat in noisy room full of other pets in similar situations. Being an emergency hospital they get a lot of pets that need to be seen and helped ASP, so delays are understandable, however our delays were mostly because of their disorganization. First they neglected to properly check us in, even as I followed their procedure. We had registered but somehow they forgot we were there.. so many patients arriving later were seen ahead of us and they made us wait for one hour in a hot car, before they even acknowledged we were there and if it wasn’t for my insistent calls they would have probably made us wait even more. Then, after their preliminary examination, they were supposed to email an estimate for us to approve treatment but the email back also took a lot of waiting and phoning them to insist on it to be sent. After my approval it took them several hours before they even started their assessment, making our total wait 8 hours. As I waited outside in the car, I started to realize that many other patients some urgent but most with MUCH LESS urgency than my cat, started to be seen and discharged. I figured that after their mistake on the initial intake they put us at the end of the line. And because we did not get their estimate on a timeline fashion they once again delayed us, and never even considered rectifying their mistake by honouring their triage and “ first come first served bases, unless dying policy” All along my cat was in considerable pain, needing antibiotics and with huge stress at being locked inside a very noisy clinic. I understand There were many patients who also needed to be served promptly but our experience was horrific and even if my cat’s case was less severe than others he needed to be seen, not ignored. When he was finally returned to me he was very distressed, unlike many other previous visits to the vet. Finally as I got home my cat is limping, a condition for which he was not brought into Emergency. I called to ask why he was limping and they said they had attempted to draw blood several times from that leg so he was in pain. I don’t know what they did to the leg, but he limped for several days after the examination and after 2 weeks he seems to finally have moments of normal walk. Getting a leg injured while obtaining blood has never been the case with my regular vet even when he had surgery a few months ago and they needed to repeatedly obtain blood from him. At the end of the ordeal He was diagnosed with cistitis and given antibiotics, which improved his condition. I just wish they had not injured his leg.
We used this emergency hospital in the middle of the night for our vomiting dog. Our dog was in a panic, and can potentially bite, so we were turned away at first (he kept taking the muzzle off), and we came back after our dog became more ill. At that time the vet made a plan to safety sedate him in the comfort of our car. This was also during the COVID procedures, so a bit more complicated. Once he was sedated it was a quick procedure. Cost wise I don't have a comparison as its our first trip to the emergency vet in Canada. They did give us a price range, when he first went in and said they would update us before doing any further procedures which would be outside of that range. His treatment was within the price range they provided.
This place serves a purpose but make sure you always get a second opinion. We took my dog in for back problems and the vet informed us the only option would be to put him down. When I heard that news I was heart broken. We decided to take him to a different vet for another opinion and thank god we did. The vet there told us to “not give up on this dog” that there was no need to put him down just yet. It’s been a few weeks now and he’s doing amazing, almost back to his normal self. I’m extremely disappointed and upset.
**second review- I hate that I had to use overnight emergency services again, but so grateful for Central!! My Golden Retriever developed an allergic reaction where his face swelled up. It started as a little swelling and itching- gave him some benedryl (my dog has history of allergies). He started acting erratic and super unusual with swelling and itching increasing quickly around 3am- called Central and they suggested to bring him down. They were super helpful and got him in right away and I was talking to Dr. Cornish (again! Thank you!!!) within 20 mins. Got a treatment plan going, treated him with a steroid injection and sent home with further meds. We made it back home just after 5am where Skye promptly fell asleep and got some much needed rest. Thank you again to all the staff that assisted us. Everyone was WONDERFUL! I am SO grateful to have emergency vet services available 24/7!!! My experience at CVVH was better than I was anticipating. I have heard many (not so good) things in the past and have tried my best not to pass judgement. My sweet little bengal cat got hit by a car and thankfully, she must have just gotten clipped because her injuries could have been MUCH worse... I called ahead of time to let them them know I was on my way and they met me as I came in the door and took her right into an exam room to take her vitals. They came out to tell me her vitals were normal and awaiting a vet before I was even done checking in. All the staff were incredibly caring and patient with me (I've never had to deal with a pet emergency before), Dr. Cornish was thorough and answered all my concerns. Yes, it was pricey but what do you expect when it is emergency AND after hours? I felt it was fair for what I needed of them. Thank you to everyone I dealt with at CVVH last night. Me and Bagheera are so grateful you were open and available for her care.
????????????
Caring staff
Dr Preston and his staff are very professional. We just had surgery done on our dog here and I walked away from this place feeling like we made the right choice. It was as positive of an experience as could be had while dealing with an injured animal.
Super Impressed! I took my pup in on Sunday afternoon of the Labour Day Long Weekend. A receptionist made eye contact as I was stepping in the door, and asked what they could do to help. My pup was assessed right aways by a technician, then seen by the vet on duty about 20 minutes later. We were checked in to spend the night. This really worried me because I am quite attached to my pup. But I was so happy to hear that I could come in and visit. When I did, I was led back into the 'ward', where I was thoroughly impressed to see how well organized everything was, and how much personal attention (and love!) was being paid to the animals. A large screen television showed, in chart format, all of the in-patients by name, and an hourly 'to do' list for who is to be fed what, medications to be administered, etc, etc. I thought I could care for my pet at home better than any 24 hour hospital could, but I was so wrong! I was so happy to have my pup looked after for a day and a bit, knowing that he was being so well monitored and actually cared for. The 'nurses' at this hospital really do a lovely thing for these animals in distress by caring for them so well. After he began to eat and drink on his own again (a tummy issue we had!) I was able to bring him home. They explained the medications, what to watch for, and all that to me very well, and sent me off a very happy mommy. Yes, there was a price to be paid. But on a the Sunday of a long weekend, I was just so happy to receive such good care for my fur baby, it was OK with me :-) Thank you so much CVVH for your great care of Bentley!
Efficient, caring and knowledgeable. Very friendly and helpful staff and Dr.s.
Good service, however they gouge you hard.
Always kind and efficient.
I have never been treated with anything less than compassion from the staff at this emergency veterinary facility and I have been there frequently and almost always in tears over the course of the last 15 years. Dr Gurney in particular has gone above and beyond researching possible solutions to my current pups issues, including staying in touch weeks later to let me know of a new veterinary product that may provide some relief. I cannot imagine not having this clinic available to this community, thank you all for everything you do.
Great experience, fantastic vet that clearly explained everything!
excellent staff. very caring. professional quality work.
Very Expensive.
I feel lucky to live in a city that has amazing 24/7 emergency vet care. I didn't have that the last three places I've lived. My dog Indigo had to spend the night last weekend, and I found everyone to be very friendly, respectful and helpful. It is obviously expensive, but that's sometimes necessary to diagnose and rule out emergencies. It was our first emergency in 6 years, and while extremely stressful, I felt he was in great care. I was very pleased with the time that 3 different vets spent with me on the phone, and even the picture the staff sent me of my guy after he had his diagnostics.
Great care of our cat in an emergency
It was very helpful very quick, but extremely expensive. A lot of pets will not be able to get help for their pets because of this
My cat passed away on the way to the clinic. They did everything they could to revive him. Great bedside manner and they were very comforting. Good covid protocols in place as well.
We are lucky in Victoria to have two amazing emergency animals hospitals. VCA was able to get my dog all fixed up.
The front end stuff advised us that our dog required an exam in-order to be evaluated and recommended for a CT Scan, even though our own vet had just done an exam about one week earlier and had sent in a referral for the CT Scan, apparently you still have to have one of their Vet's do an exam there. We have been through an ACL Surgery with our dog on the opposite hind leg, this is why we were trying to expedite the process of vet appointments and costs and trauma of several visits with our dog. When speaking with the Vet did not know our history, had not been told about the referral and in the end wants us to start with X-rays and blood panel and another GA, then from this findings do a Ct Scan with another GA and then from those findings proceed with referrals etc. So hundreds of dollars later and vert appointments we might know what is going on. After 4 hours and a bill for 168.00 we have no answers. Do not waste your time with all of there separate departments that do not know what information advises their patients.
Horrible, uncompassionate scam artists! $279 for euthanasia! Over $450 for cremation and return of your beloved pet. This place is nothing but a cash grab. Yes vets are expensive but no where near what this place charges for terrible service.
It seems as though this clinic is more interested in your money, then your pets health. Your pet could be dieing on the lobby floor, but they will make you give a hefty deposit before they will consider looking at your pet
This was what happened on the night that my chinchilla, Carly, became ill. She had been fine up until a short while before midnight. I had been opening my bedroom door late at night as she loved exploring new places and most of the time I didn't allow her in my bedroom. She ran into my bedroom and I came in with her as I always do. She ran under my bed and immediately started poking her nose underneath the heater, so I kept reaching down over the side of my bed to move her away. I wish I'd used my blanket or something else to stop her and then encouraged her to the other side of my bedroom, where she used to love running into my closet. One thing she had done a couple of times, when I was lying on my side on the floor, was jump onto my legs, run up my body and then use me as a platform to be able to jump onto the bed. She must have swallowed something she shouldn't have done, perhaps left over from the previous tenants or when the apartment was redecorated before I moved in, as she started brushing the sides of her mouth with her front feet. But she then came out of my bedroom and I closed the door and opened the door to the bathroom, where she would often run to then jump into the bath where I put her sand bath. Just a short while later I was heading to bed so I started looking round for her and couldn't see her anywhere, until I went in the bathroom and she was in her sand bath seeming to chew on the sand a bit. She seemed distressed and didn't want to come out so I picked up the whole sand bath and brought it to the side of the cage and encouraged her out. She then seemed to start sucking on small pieces of hay. A number of times I took her out of the cage to lift her up to the light to try and see if something was stuck in her mouth. The first couple of times I did that she had a lot of energy. She didn't seem too bad for a bit until she started to struggle to stand up. Then she started to lie on her side and after a bit I got really worried and called a 24-hour vet. That was at 1.30. I called for a taxi a short while later and must have got to the vets at about 2.10. She was immediately seen by the vet while I dealt with paperwork. I then came in to see her and they had put her into a glass box with an oxygen tube into it. I suggested that perhaps she had been affected by heat stroke but the vet said that her body was cold. They attached a heated cushion to the side of this glass box and took her into a different room where I stayed with her. That was at about 2.30. Over the next hour and a half she seemed to very gradually be improving. Then at 4 the vet came in and without any explanation and without asking me how she was doing, removed her from the box and started rubbing her and then seemed to squeeze her neck. She put her back onto the towel she had been lying on and checked her heartbeat a couple of times. She seemed to have stopped breathing at this point. The vet then checked for a heartbeat again and said that she couldn't hear one. The vet then left me alone with Carly. She had passed away. I was so extremely upset I could barely move. I stayed with her for over an hour. I then decided that there was no way I was going to be paying anything, having gone with a pet that was still alive and that had started to improve up until 4 when the vet, giving no explanation whatsoever, removed her from the glass box and seemed to squeeze her neck. I walked out once, was called back in by the staff, was told that I owed them $168 and then just walked out again, with my, now dead, pet in the carry case I had used to bring her in. That was at 5.15. I got home at 6.10. She was only five, I had only had her for a month, and she should've lived for at least another ten years. This is just the most incredibly awful and upsetting thing to happen. Again, she was breathing when taken out of the oxygen tank but had stopped breathing when the vet placed her down again. It's like Dr Shipman, finishing people off. It's absolutely horrific.
Very friendly staff. Kind and knowledgeable! Would recommend. Sterlington Archibald is recovering just fine! Not a fan of the cone????
responsible and professional team in this hospital . My dog being there as an emergency , later be hospitalized. they response my request quickly , sent me pic. and videos of my dog daily , which very relieved our concern and anxious
I have made several visits to this clinic over the years with my elderly, sick cat and each time I was met with compassion, efficiency, kindness and excellent care from all aspect of the staff including their front desk people, techs, vets and specialists. I got to know a few of them and the tremendous stress and pressure they deal with on a daily basis - 24 hours a day! Being an emergency hospital, 95% of the people who walk in are stressed emotional pet owners. My heart goes out to the hospital staff, not an easy job. They operate on a triage basis so don't expect to be treated right away. They get a lot of major emergencies!
I had a nightmare experience here. I brought my cat in one night because she was extremely ill and had thrown up everywhere. I was in a very emotional state (as anyone would with their animal who they’ve had for over 10years)... they sedated her and then made me sign some paper work all while I was crying and extremely scared that I would be losing my best friend. The receptionist was cold and very rude during my entire time there. I do recognize that they are extremely over worked. But I would argue that the type of care that went down with my cat was neglectful and disgusting. She was there for 2 and half days and was tormented the entire time. They had the dogs and cats in one small area (during their renovation) so my poor kitty had to deal with dogs barking and howling all the while dealing with pain and emended stress. The vets seemed annoyed with me coming in and visiting during visiting time because I would ask for things to be done. And I’m not a Karen off any kind... but when i first got there she was on top of a dog who wouldn’t stop crying and she was so scared that she curled up in the corner of the cage and was shaking. I asked for her to be moved so that she wouldn’t have to listen to the dogs... which they kind of did... the condition this hospital is is disgusting. The second time I was there I found my cat laying in a pool of her urine for god knows how long... this was extremely upsetting. They were feeding her by a tube at the point because she was “unable to eat”. This is when I asked to be brought into a private room with just her and some food. Within 5 minutes of being always from all the awful noise and stressful environment she perked right up and began to eat her food. She even started purring again. This is when I knew they had no clue what they were doing. I asked to take her and now it’s been a year and she’s strong and healthy again. The vet I brought her to afterwards believes that she just needed some steroids for the whole situation. I’m not upset that my bill was over 8 grand, I’m upset that I’m left believing this was just an incredible money grab and neglectful experience. I will NEVER come back here and neither should you. This place should be shut down.
Super efficient, kind staff
Always so helpful and caring for both me and my pet!
Took my 12 week old chihuahua puppy in who was vomiting up white foam. Other than that the puppy was perfectly healthy. We waited half an hour for the vet tech. We waited an hour to see the vet. Then we waited 2 more hours to have xrays done. They another half an hour to tell us they found nothing. To see the vet they charged me $187. $234 for xrays. They found absolutely nothing wrong. Gave us some prescriptions (I am sure to justify the ridiculous amount of money they charged for their services) and sent me on my way. Overall the staff was pleasant and the vet was nice. But the final bill with the drugs was $466 and it took four hours. From 8pm-Midnight. Alternatively when I got back to Vancouver where I live I went to a vet for the same problem after the puppy didn't get any better and it was only $84 to see the emergency vet and he didn't recommend xrays, but a change in food. Gave me a suggestion for a brand that his office didn't carry and said come back in two weeks if the new food wasn't making him better.
Great place when your pet is sick and you need help now!! Awesome care is given!!
Good, but very expensive.
Very compassionate when we had to have our cat euthanized unexpectedly they gave us privacy, room to grieve and no judgement. All the staff were so kind to us they made saying goodbye to our beloved cat easier.
I can't thank everyone here enough. They are amazing. Even when they are busy they take the time to make sure you have everything you need and make sure any questions you have are anwsered. I saw some reviews mentioning they are expensive and yes they cost a bit more because they are a 24hr emergency hospital. They were very clear about this and did not try to hide it and made sure they let me know all of my options. Everyone there works so hard to make sure this 24hr emergency animal hospital is available for people in Victoria. If you are in need of emergency care for your pet I 100% recommend them.
These reviews stating that their only value is to clean your wallet is BS. Did you ever think that it costs a TON of money to keep a 24h hospital in business? If they gave everyone deals etc they would have to shut down. Scott Gerrity, did you actually go in the back and see if there were patients in the hospital that needed care ? Maybe you have X-ray vision. The doctors at emergency provide the best possible care, that being said they will recommend the best medicine possible. Would you rather then be more concerned for your pet or wallet ? Have you ever truly looked at the prices of healthcare if we didn't have coverage? If you don't have money get pet insurance or don't get a pet. Educate yourself on the real world everyone.
The staff here was super amazing and helpful when I've had to go here for pup emergencies
I left a message on their website and they never got back to me.
The vet that saw my dog was amazing. She had been super lethargic and just not quite right for two days. I took her there and within a few hours she was diagnosed with Addison’s disease and started on treatment. By the morning she looked so much better and once the test for that disease came back positive from Vancouver she was started on regular meds and is now doing wonderfully.
Unhelpful and expensive. Doesn't even seem like they care for the well-being of my pet.
Three years ago my rescue chihuahua became very ill. After $5000 later she relapsed & I was told it would be another $5000 & no guarantee. As a senior on a very fixed income I feel they are taking advantage of so many people at such a vulnerable time. Shame on them! Why is there no regulatory body to monitor vets? Now I see they're building a new multi-million dollar facility. Just watch the prices go up then!
Excellent vet and staff.
Our first time dealing with Central and I hope I never ever have to deal with them. Words cannot explain how upset I am with how they laid out our options and the fact that they pressured us for immediate decisions when given the circumstances, would have benefited from more consultation. Our life has been forever altered because of them and their pushy behaviour. Shame on you!
In moments of crisis, fear and struggle these amazing people went above and beyond to comfort my family and our dog.
Thank you everyone who was working at VCA on Christmas night. I had to take my dachshund Harry in with an injury, I was heartbroken and so worried about him. Everyone who we had an experience with was so lovely, from the first person who talked to on the phone to the last person we saw. The vet Harry saw was also wonderful. Thank you for taking care of our little guy so well!
Great over the phone service when I messed up my dogs medication dose. Polite, quick, and extra info provided to ensure I understood what was discussed. Thanks a million
I was amazed at how professional all the staff were. I accidentally stepped on my kitten and had to have her put down. I'm 6ft 4in tall 220lbs and I was crying my eyes out and had no money to pay a vet, but the beautiful staff covered everything for me. They were very helpful and understanding. I was given all the time I needed to say good bye and when it was time it was very quick and calm. I will always go see these guys from now on, very very impressed. Highly recommended. And that's saying something for me. Thanks again guys
When we had to bring our pup in late at night on the weekend, they were very kind and communicative. While services were costly, they were very transparent about amounts and talked through the options with us.
Friendly professional staff. Very helpful and knowledgeable
Astonishing lack of communication. Treatment plans were changed without any discussion beforehand. I was confidently informed that my female dog was in surgery when I have a male cat. This did not give confidence that any other information I had been given to that point was particularly accurate. Requests for basic info, such as is my cat still alive, were brushed off and I was told the doctor would follow up. Doctor did not and I was left waiting for hours to find out if I even still had a cat. Requests for release of my cat were met with a very dismissive attitude. While I understand that the clinic is likely very busy most of the time some basic communication skills would go a long way.
If you want your pet to survive probably not the right place to go and the Vet sorry cant remember her name was absolutely awful never had my wife and I been made to feel so bad while our dog was in so much pain and eventually had to put our sweet Bella down , They did end up charging us a small fortune for doing absolutely no good whatsoever , never will I step foot in that place again
The oncology team here can only be described as amazing. They held our hands, presented all the options and were by our side til the end. Our boy was treated with warmth, love and respect, each and every visit. The team worked hard to make him and I comfortable through the entire journey. At the end when we needed them most, they were accommodating, compassionate and a pillar of strength for us in our hardest moment. Dr. Hammond, Jason & Lena we are forever thankful to have had you by our side as our Hudson fought his battle, we will never forget what you provided for him and us. Thank you!
Took our cat there on New Year’s Eve because there was no other vet open. First off I must say the front desk staff and vet themselves were very kind and treated us well. We were first quoted 2500-3500 to save him. After explaining that we absolutely do not have that kind of money the vet re calculated for us and managed to get it for 1600. Two days after getting our cat back we had to take him back to our vet that is now open it turns out he was not doing well and our vet basically had to redo what they had done and give him an anti inflamitory which the vet hospital had not prescribed. Our vet charged us only 300 for this. 300 compared to 1600 ( let me remind you that is the reduced rate) is a bit insane. Of course you would pay more for after hours but 1300 more!?! Again I don’t blame the vet herself she was very kind and obviously does not decide the prices herself. But the company should be ashamed. It will take us several months to pay back the credit card debit we needed to use to save our cat, but I am THANKFUL that we had the credit card to use so that we could save him. I cannot imagine how I would feel if my cat died because a company’s outrages rates made it so that we couldn’t afford to save him. Please reconsider your rates, pets are family members their pain and suffering should never be exploited for profit.
To put it simply, they saved my dog when most (even they) thought he probably wouldn't make it. The level of care of the dog was stellar and communication with me multiple times a day was great. The vet techs are fabulous in terms of hands on care of the dog and he was there for a week so this was important. They are very up front about the costs so there are no surprises. My one piece of advice to people worried about catastrophic veterinary expense for their dog or cat, get pet insurance.
This place is totally money hunger than puppy health care. please do not go this place. bill is expensive than normal and suggest your pet to be hospitalization whatever the condition is. it is just a way they ask money for.
Overpriced and just not good overall experience
Overpriced and just not good overall experience
Awesome staff
They are amazing with the animals and are excellent at what they do. They truly care. Which is so important to me.
Staff only cares about making sales and store policies are not customer friendly
This is an awful place. I know of at least five instances where animals have been misdiagnosed and got sicker after their stay. They have a monopoly on 24 hour care, are super expensive, no bedside manner. Avoid them if you can
My cat was septic & they did all they could to save him but found he had cancer . They showed they really cared for the animals .
My dog got transferred to Central Victoria as my vet thinks my dog would need 24 hour care and I.V. fluid. I took their advice to go to Central Vic but it was horrifying / nightmare experience. The prices are very high, yes but let's put money aside and just talk about life saving! Doctor Havens tried to persuade me to spend thousands of dollars to redo all the tests I had already done at the other animal hospital with my original vet and when I said I can't afford to redo them, she suggested putting down my dog. I requested a blood test to make sure and upon getting the result, she insisted my dog was dying due to all organs failure and asked me to put my dog to sleep right away and if I delayed it, I would have to sign some paper to declare that my action / decision with my dog's life is against her medical advice. BUT it turns out when I took my dog back to my original vet the very same day, they said the blood test results aren't that bad and my dog can be saved..... and now, two weeks after that awful visit at Central Victoria, my dog is now all better and up walking around happily! IF, I had listened to Dr. Havens's medical advice, I would have killed my dog and regretted it and been upset with myself for the rest of my life!! So.....to all of you, if you happen to be advised to put your pets to sleep at Central Victoria, you'd be wise to get a 2nd opinion elsewhere before you make such important decision!
I am beyond impressed with this vet hospital. At around 9:45 pm our 3 month old puppy Jesse, started to get hives and his eye began to swell shut. My boyfriend and I continued to monitor him as he seemed happy and normal other than the swelling. Around 11 pm we noticed it started to get slightly worse so we called and asked for an opinion on what to do. While they obviously can not diagnose over the phone they were very helpful and gave us a couple different options. We decided to continue to monitor him and they agreed and said if it got worse we could bring him straight in and he would be seen right away. At 3 am we decided to bring him in as his eye was almost shut and the hives began getting worse again. We drove straight there and they brought him inside right away. Because of Covid we weren't allowed inside so everything was done over the phone. Within 15 minutes we had a call from the vet, Dr. Van Der Lee. She gave us a full update and listened to everything we told her and answered any questions we had. They wanted to monitor him for half an hour so we went home. They called and informed us that he was ready to go if we wanted to pick him up but were also given the option to get a bit more sleep and pick him up later. We decided to pick him up at 6:30 am. When we got there we were given the bill and I was shocked at how reasonable it was. I have had to take other dogs and animals into emergency vets before and have been charged massive amounts of money. I do expect to pay more it is emergency medicine but this was completely reasonable and I am so happy with the care we received. When they brought him out he was very seemed like he was having a great time and I think he was a little upset to go back home and not have everyone new and exciting to play with him. Thank you so much to the Central Victoria Team!
After having a terrible experience with a local vet who treated my dog for "arthritis" for 6 months (he had sudden onset of weakness and swelling in his limbs, and a persistent cough, after being otherwise very healthy and active), I took him here one night when he could no longer get out of bed. The vet that was working (Lana Bissett) was incredibly compassionate, and did lung x-rays (which should have been done months before) and started him on treatment for the bronchitis that had been festering for some time. She even called over the following days to check in on him, while she was not even on shift, which was super nice. The next day he was able to run around again and felt so much better. She also was able to recommend a local vet who is a great fit for us. 3 years later, and he is off all medications and still keeping up on hikes. :)
We visited the hospital yesterday morning with an aging, falling apart Husky that we knew we had to say goodbye to. Dr. Young and the staff were absolutely the best. So compassionate! They treated our Girl as if she were their own....and us with the most we needed to make the decision. The care we all received was the very Best... Thank you all so much.
$5000.00 surgery to our cat, to find out that there was nothing wrong with her (she had stopped eating). After the surgery, our cat who was in pain, bit one of the nurses. They called me right away to let me know that they couldn’t keep her any longer for the post surgery care, because of that. My cat has suffered a long surgery (stomach and intestines) when absolutely nothing was wrong with her. I had to feed her liquid food through a tube in her nose for 2 weeks after the surgery.... this has been by far the worst experience I’ve had with vets. They caused completely unnecessary pain and stress to my cat and family and made us spend a fortune.
I had to rush my dog Sam to Central Victoria on Sunday night. They were absolutely amazing and saved my dogs life! My dog was always right near the Vet either in a comfy crib or on one of the staff's laps. They regularly called with updates and sent pictures. After a few days they transferred my dog to an internal medicine specialist. I am incredibly grateful to everyone at Central Victoria Veterinary Hospital!
Doctor is unhelpful would rather see my cats spider bite start to cause necrosis and require surgery then using antibiotics to be proactive. Just like any for profit organization make as much money as possible and they have you by the balls because they know you love your animal if you care enough to take him in for anow examination. Doctor also treated me as if I had no concept of the issue at hand and hadn't done any research what so ever. I left this establishment bewildered how they could even remain in operation. Not a drop of sympathy was given she also threatened me.... I said be careful he might scratch you to which I was told in a cold threatening way "he better not scratch me" as she stared at me. I felt as if she would put him down if he did and she could go anywhere but here.
I hit a rabbit and it flew into the ditch. I collected it and took it to the hospital. I believe the rabbit was paralyzed in it's back legs. They graciously accepted the rabbit with no hesitation. They are a wonderful fearful facility.
The vet techs and front desk staff were lovely and caring. We weren't really kept up to date about what was happening which really added to our anxiety as we waited an hour and a half between sending our dog in and receiving an update. The vet we saw was patronizing, callous and harsh. She said really scary things that caused additional anxiety and didn't give comprehensive information about our dog's health. We were left feeling worried, confused and hurt. She pushed Trupanion pet insurance on us while we were anxious and exhausted from the day's events, and really looked down on us for not having insurance. Induced vomiting for ingesting a foreign object cost $350 and the visit was a total of about 2.5 hours. At the end of the day it's a hospital and there isn't another option, but I'm mostly writing this review to express my feelings about the way we were treated.
Very kind and caring in a difficult situation
Wasn't too happy to hear next time leave out the middleman come to us paid 500 to my vet told to go get an ultrasound done brought blood and urine samples with me and that's what I was told when they had me a bill for 19 00to 2100 to do the same thing that had already been done plus ultra sound anyways took from 2 in the afternoon till 1:30 at night for a $2,400 bill but it's all about my girl so money doesn't matter she had a urinary tract infectionSurprised there was no payment planBut other than thatThey were professionals myBabies betterAnd I would refer them to anyoneBut make sure you bring your VisaCuz they do charge you between5and10 dollars of the maximum price allowed Buy veterinarianstandards
Wonderful hospital many thanks.
Don't they have a zero star? This is the WORST place I've ever been in my life. This is an exploitative factory for ill pets and their stressed parents. The only thing they are interested in is money. They try to sell extras that are not necessary, they are twice as expensive as many places and don't even seem to like animals. I'm sure they could still make millions charging half their rates. Cold, lousy . A dog with pnemonia threw up on the floor while I was waiting and they didn't even sterilize the floor. Do not use this place. Get yourself a vet that has his/her own hospital . Horrible experience. I HATE this place. AVOID IT AT ALL COSTS.
I have gone to this clinic twice, and both times what would typically be "after-hours" but they are open 24 hours and they provide amazing service. Very well organized --- someone comes out of the clinic to speak to you and to take your pet in. Then you can wait outside or in you car. They are very communicative, very helpful, and very organized. I highly recommend the service and the staff. - Cathy
I would have liked to give this place at least one more star...maybe even two. However, I feel the need to offset biased reviews posted here. Let me explain... I had an "ok" experience here. Dr. Gurney here is wonderful - I wish he was my regular vet! Dr. Veach - just lovely! Some of the staff very caring and compassionate. I'm sorry I don't recall all of the names. Some of the others - well, you can tell it's just a job to them. The cost - it's emergency, it's expected. That's what pet insurance is for! Although I do think these guys do oversell their services just a bit more than they need to. And I know they talk about a big renovation they're doing. I sure hope it's something good, because boy is that building disgusting! What I really didn't like was the truly corporate feel you get here. You can just tell it's not the same feeling you would get from something locally branded. What brought my rating down even further was after I read through a few of the other reviews - I noticed that one of the staff members had posted a five star review of the place. Jason V reviewed this place, and I recognized his picture from when I saw him there and dealt with him. And he was a name that I remembered because I was impressed with him - at the time. And I'm pretty sure he is in the upper ranks of staffing levels (management?)- although I'm not positive on that. So I wonder how many other staff members post 5 star reviews to boost their rating...and I find it truly shameful that they find the need to do this! NOTE/EDIT: 2 Days after posting my review - I notice that Jason V's review seems to have been taken down. Nice of him/them for doing that at least. Hopefully there are no other staff members in here misleading the public and they can let their services speak for themselves.
I had the worst experience with this "Hospital" the Vet's bedside manner is atrocious and all they care about is upselling treatments. Never again will I come here!
The doctor we saw here was very compassionate. This is not a standard Vet clinic but rather a hospital. YOU WILL pay more. IF you're going to complain about cost, go elsewhere, complaining about a cost for service is redundant.
I needed to bring my kitty in for an emergency visit. The team at VCA Central Victoria is phenomenal, from reception to the vets. Specifically, Dr. Elise Boller. She is a fantastic communicator, and was very thorough and knowledgeable about what was going on with my girl. She answered all of my questions, and always kept me updated with her care. I felt that my kitty was in very good hands, and she is doing much better now. I would recommend VCA to anyone in need of emergency vet care.
My cat Leo had an emergency and has been here back and forth and had to stay for a couple nights. VCA centrals service has been nothing but amazing. They saved my cat and continue to save him and are so kind, reliable and amazing.
Professional, caring overall great experience
Dr Haven was an okay vet when I visited her with my sick rabbit. Other than that the other one I've seen who was dr Browne was condescending and an absolute B****. She charged me up the a** and with little to no answers of what is wrong with my dog. I really do not suggest going there unless you want your wallet cleaned out for no help. They also have zero sympathy for you and your animal.
It is very hard to know that a member of your family is in pain or suffering. Our little boy Ren has had one prior severe case of struvite crystals. Initally, we didn't know what we were dealing with and held out for an appointment with his vet instead of taking him in immediately, as we now know was necessary. The cost to have him fixed was understandably high; this is an emergency hospital for emergency services. They kept him under observations for three days, and by the end he was the same happy, lovey - albeit a little loopy!- boy. Last night, almost a full year later, we managed to catch the reccurence early. Dr. Tannahill and the receptionist, Bonnie, were just so incredibly kind to us (and this is at 11:30 at night!). We are young and do not have much to spare, but together they walked us through every option and avenue available. The crystals had developped quite beyond what was initially anticipated, but we really feel as though they did their best to give Ren the best, affordable chance. This morning our little boy had a big, long pee (I know- weird thing to be happy about!), but we are just so thankful for the service and the care he was provided. Thank you guys SO much. <3
I'm workin on the new building ... it should be very nice ;)
Good service and helped with my dogs “incident” of eating a condom. We were in and out in a couple hours which is great considering that there were other emergencies and my pups issue was less pertinent
Staff very compassionate and helpful. Covid safe protocols in place.
Everyone from the admin assistants and vet techs to the vet were all very kind and helpful. They took my dog in immediately and when I called later in the night to check on her they were happy to give me an update, even though I'm sure they were very busy. Yes, it's expensive, but 24hr emerg vets are, and usually when you're visiting one its because your pet can't wait until your vets open hours. Either way, I was very pleased with the experience and though I hope I don't need to use them again any time soon, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to my friends/family.
I can not thank the kind people of Central Victoria Veterinary Hospital enough. They were there for me and my precious 14 year old shih tsu Molly when we needed them most. Molly had been diagnosed with cancer eight months ago, so we knew her time with us was limited. Last night I came home to find her partially paralyzed and in terrible pain. My regular veterinary clinic was closed, so I found Central Victoria Veterinary Hospital online and called them. They told me to bring her in right away. I knew there was nothing the Vet could do for her, except help end her suffering. All of the staff were so kind and they treated me and Molly with such respect and empathy. I'm so grateful that Molly didn't have to suffer all night long waiting for my regular Vets office to open. Thank you, Dr. Kelsey Havens and all of the staff at the clinic. I love my dog very much and she will forever be part of our family. We love you, Molly!
Hospitals are never nice places to go. It doesn't matter if it's a human hospital or an animal hospital, but I must admit that VCA took my sick pet in right away and took good care of him, until we figured out what was going on with him. The doctor and staff showed alot of compassion and were quite honest with his prognosis. Even though it wasn't good news and we had to put our pet down it was done when we were ready. I'm happy that this hospital is open 24 hours a day and you don't need an appointment or call ahead of time to get in. I'm happy to say that they didn't turn us away either. I'm happy that VCA is here and available for everyone, even though I'm not planning on visiting here again anytime soon. Thank you again for taking care of us when we needed your help!
Amazing people and true heroes. Thank you for helping my little pup.
Petra Kos went out of her way to make our last moments with our beloved dog peaceful and meaningful. She was comforting and calm and reassuring. She made a very hard thing doable. I’m so grateful to her and the staff. We will miss our whippet boy but know it was his time and feel fortunate to be able to give him the gift of a peaceful death.
Costs several times more than other vets in the area. Vets' "bedside manner" is not a positive experience. I do not recommend.
Awesome staff.
These people are absolute scam artists, I highly recommend finding somewhere else to take your little friends as they have no problem gouging people in their time of need. I brought my cat here to be spayed, a routine operation but still a stressful time already, and it was made much worse by the policies of this vet office. We dropped her off in the morning and were quoted a price of $225 for the operation, which seems to be just higher than the standard but not a big deal. Then, once she was already prepped for surgery, they phoned us asking if we wanted her to have fluids during the surgery as it is safer; well of course I want my animal to have the best care, its like asking if we want her to have anesthetics or antiseptics. But of course, their gouge price for this is $60. Then we get another call in the middle of her surgery telling us that we will be charged a "mature cat fee" of $70 because her uterus has matured. My cat is 9 months old, she hasn't even lost her kitten look. Not to mention, they knew how old she was when she went in, unless they didn't even bother to look at the medical book we provided them with, I assume this is just a standard scam at this office; again, I obviously had no choice in the matter. These things should have been addressed at the time we dropped her off, it is so cruel to torture people when they are already under stress about their animal being in surgery and goes against everything any kind of doctor should represent. These unreasonable charges combined with their $70 charge for three days worth of painkillers that have made her sick and don't seem to even help have brought the total to over $350, for a routine operation that regularly costs people around $200 all in. But wait, the doctor who performed the operation, upon being questioned on these charges, opted to waive her "doctors fee" of another $70, which would have brought the total up to around $420. WHO THE HELL ELSE IS GOING TO PERFORM HER SURGERY? The janitor? Why is there a doctors fee on top of all this? Because these people are first and foremost a business, in it for the money and nothing else. I deplore this group of scam artists for their ability to take advantage of people when they are too stressed to protect themselves from your grifting, and encourage people to seek reasonable care for their pet somewhere else. You don't need to "cheap out" to be fairly treated. The only reason I gave it a rating at all is because they didn't kill my cat.
Horrible experience. I feel this clinic is money driven. I asked them why they where so expensive and they said because they are open 24 hours and The vets have extra training. I said do your vets make a higher wage and staff as they are working a night shift. No they said. I asked what the vets extra training was if i could see proof. Couldn't provide that either. Didn't even know. Felt like i was being given excuses as i looked over at the big reno poster and thought to myself wheres my money going? To build them a new clinic or to the many share holders this company has? Then learned this: VCA, Inc. VCA Animal Hospitals is a trade name of veterinary company VCA, Inc. (previously known as Veterinary Centers of America), an operator of more than 850 animal hospitals in the US and Canada, and owner of more than 50 veterinary diagnostic laboratories. They bought out clinics all over the island and closed after hour services. Now you have to go to their VERY over priced clinic. they also said they work with the spca and if you cant afford their prices you can surrender your pet to them. That they will pay the bill. If you refuse to pay you can put your pet down, cheapest route. Or they call the spca on you if they don't agree with how you decide to treat your pet. Here are somethings i have heard already: 1) I guy takes in his dog as he has eaten a foreign object. gets a quote at $3500. He says he cant pay more that $2900 as thats all his savings. They get back to him and adjust the bill to $2850. The receptionist approaches him in the waiting room with the bill. He looks at it and its over $3300! He said he was given a discount she said im sure everyone wants that! He steps back in shock, she grabs his arm and says help me hes trying to flee. Needless to say police where called cameras were viewed. he paid his reduced fee and left with his dog. He filed a complaint and got a full refunded in full over the next few days. From what we have read the over charging and changing bills is common. 2) then a lady came in where her dogs stomach stitches were letting go. Quoted $3500 to fix (this amount seems to be a base price to any pet that needs surgery) They looked at putting their pet down, 75 dollars vs 3500 plus tax to put stitches back in. They restitched wrapped the old wound and gave pain meds to the regular vet opened. This dog was stable and resting not in distress. The vet and owner worked out a plan to care for the dog to it could be taken to their regular vets in approx 4 hours. They paid $900, and transferred the dog. To find out that the clinics morning vet called the spca. After they pushed the owner to give her expensive purebred to the spca the owner declined. Original surgery $1000 at another clinic Stitches came out and needed to be redone Quote $3500 plus to reclose. Owner asked why it was so expensive to clean and restitch the hole. Comments: Vets are more trained, 24 clinic, ... owner files Complaint - manager admits wrong doing by the new vet but no refund or written apology. They would not release the female vets name. As far as they know the manager talked to the vet at their staff meeting. 3) lady takes in her 17 yr old old chihuahua that was starting to pass. VCA clinic said they would call the spca on her if she took her half dead dog home to let it finish passing. That she had to put her down. Tried to sell her cremation. She was so upset about her dog she had for 17 yrs was passing and to be threatened with the spca if she didn't finish her off was horrible. No giving her meds to relax the old dog to let her pass on her own. This was one of the many clinics bought out. 4) another persons dog has a seizure. They quoted them such a high price to treat they put their one year old dog down. How many animals are being killed? Mainland spay neuter $60-240 Island spay neuter $380-$1000 C-sections island $1000-$1800 private clinics After hour $3500-$8500 Mainland $700-$850 Vet visit on the mainland for $35 Vaccines and check ups mainland $17
Be prepared when you go in, this is a revenue driven group. Immediately upon arrival there was a quick look at the cat and then an estimate provided. It was totally consumed with some additional costs added. Be clear that costs must be discussed before they are added to the invoice. BTW the cat did not actually have injuries.
I'm a first aid guy on the site we are building the new animal hospital & it looks pretty state of the art. Has the only pet MRI on the island or something idk its gonna be dope.
Took my pet when we were concerned about his health. Great experience for us and him.
They were helpful, gave me deworming medicine for my kids puppy go here your pet need's help
Amazing people and the service was great.
Techs and the Vet were great! It seems management has their head up their own butts.
Bring extra cash, and few credit cards with you! After i was informed that blood work for my dog will only cost $40+ on top of $160 examination,i thought i might as well do it. When i checked my invoice, turned out to be $202 for exam?! LOL WHAT A JOKE AND SCAM. Even the other lady who checked out right next to me, was so shocked with her bill as well??!! She was given completely different info and was so furious that she ended up paying with her "whole paycheck"( specific word she said) ***AVOID THIS PLACE IF YOU CAN ***
Terrible place. Go to any other place in Victoria. The staff are rude and you'll be overcharged. They won't honor pay bright either. Demanded other banking info on a Sunday. They wring money from people who are worried for their pets. Vampires. Charged almost $200 for a consult. There was no consult. Please, if you can go anywhere else, do so.
I'm so unhappy with this emergency department. My dog had a collision with another dog in October 2019 and both his bones in his front right leg broke in half. They recommended to have a metal plate and screws put in at a cost of over $6,000 to which I did as they are the professional. We moved shortly after but my poor dogs leg always has sores and pus over 2 years later. I can't find anyone who can take the hardware out in Canada. I wish I had the leg amputated as he would have adjusted to 3 legs and be far better off than he is at the moment. I went from a happy energetic blue heeler border collie cross to a poor sweet dog that is always in pain and uncomfortable ????
I went to Central Victoria Vet Hospital because my dog was in a lot of pain. And the reasons were unknown. We were given Dr. Lynetter Brown. I honestly advise anyone going to Central Victoria to get anyone BUT her. She has no empathy or bed side manners. She walked into the room and didn't even interact with my dog. It was immediate grilling of her past history. She is extremely hostile and abrupt about her diagnosis. On top of all of that she brought soft food in which she fed my dog. I asked her if it was chicken and she looked in my face and said no (my dog is extremely allergic to chicken) then I sat in the waiting room and saw the can of dog food and read the ingredients. Chicken was the first thing listed. People use caution. Hopefully you don't have the same experience as me and my dog.
They are caring
Highly recommend this vet hospital. Dr. Young is an incredible doctor and loves what he does. Thank you to both the staff and Dr. Young for taking care of my Molly.
We had to bring our dog in to this place on an emergency basis because it was a weekend. She suffers from congestive heart failure and she was in distress, panting and anxious. We provided them with all her history and medication. They talked us into additional expensive tests because they could see our distress. They put her in an oxygen tent and gave her another medication. They said her time was up but we did not want our beloved pet to die there. While she was in the hospital we made the decision to put our lovely girl down and contacted a local vet that does in home euthanasia. We called the hosital and said we were bringing her home. They were insistent that she would die if we took her out of the oxygen tent. Ironically when we went to pick her up the vet said to take her to our regular vet in the next week! Our bill came to over $1200. The emotional distress they caused our family was inexcusable, they aren't there to help pet owners but to make a buck, they need to be investigated. By the way, under our vet she bounced back really well, as happy, sweet and silly as always. This was 3 months ago. We know her time is coming to an end but we are appreciating every additional day we have with her.
My pet went in walking came out unable to walk with $1000 bill for tests that were 'inconclusive'. They also kept asking me that I should come in again more testing that now I know to be completely unrelated to the actual problem. I took my pet after being in agony for the past four days to another vet this afternoon and they identified the problem within an hour opposed to central holding my dog for over 7 hours with nothin but antibiotics for no infection, while the other vet came out with a treatment plan that already has our dog back to her former self. Also cost me less than half the price with an actual result instead of sending persistent emails saying it isn't their fault and I should take her in there for more testing. I am never going again. Judging from the reviews many people feel the same.
They took great care of our dog
Great staff and services
Very kind and courteous staff. Made me feel comfortable bringing my Dog in for an emergency.
Very helpful here and went out of their way to research a new product for me. I will be going there more regularly. Great staff
