Very supportive :)
Dr. Hagerty is very easy to talk to and answered all of my questions, she is a great vet. The staff are friendly, helpful and really good with my two dogs Sunny & Coco. I am happy to continue going to this clinic.
Great care and attention. ????
James Bay Veterinary Clinic went above and beyond my expectations. I had recently moved to Victoria and my french bulldog encountered issues with breathing. After a long night and wait at the Victoria Emergency Veterinary Hospital I had made an appointment to go to James Bay Veterinary Clinic. The front desk staff were extremely welcoming to myself and my fury friend. Dr. Hagerty was very polite and thorough with her examination and made recommendations. The team have kept in contact with me throughout my pets struggles in order to make further decisions if need be. I highly recommend James Bay Vet and am very happy to feel my dog and companion is always going to be in good hands in the future.
Geat pet care by Extremely capable and knowledgeable staff. They treated both us and our pets with consideration and compassion COVID protocols were safe and effective without being onerous. Well Done James Bay Clinic!
Friendly staff and Vet, great location and open on some evenings and Saturday. Not much more you could ask for of a non-emergency clinic!
First experience was great and my cat was given an examination and medicaion. Within a week I had to come back due to adverse reactions to the meds. I was charged for another full exam with a different vet and offered no other options to help her. I recently called to ask a question and was given very rude service on the phone. We are now attenting a new vet and are much happier.
Friendly staff and fast work. My kitten will be getting all of her medicine from there.
I was very disappointed with this vet clinic. I went in for a checkup for my dog, after a few minutes the dr barely did anything, just looked at the dog and they charged me 80$. I had told them over and over it was a dog I had recently adopted through the spca and the spca had told me I wouldn't have to pay if the vet check up was within 3 days of the adoption. But the clinic was not very understanding. They proceeded to charge me. I was not happy. The spca ended up being in the wrong for not giving me the proper paper work and telling me only a limited number of clinics offer this service. But still the clinic should have told me they didn't offer this free service rather than going through with it and surprising me afterwards with the bill. A bill that wasn't warranted with the stingy service they provided. Would not recommend.
So far we have had a great experience coming to the James Bay Vet Clinic with our puppy (now 4.5 months old). All staff has been very welcoming and helpful and Dr Brianne have been great answering many puppy questions we as new puppy parents have had!
We're SO FORTUNATE to have such a wonderful vet clinic in James Bay! My cat is older, and everyone from the wonderful receptionists (who I think actually run the place and do it amazing well) to every vet that she's seen has been friendly and professional.
Absolutely awesome clinic. Our 18-year-old purebred Siamese cat MANU whose health was declining fast and Dr. Hagerty and the staff were so kind, patient, and helpful when we all went in as a small family to say our goodbyes. A candle was lit in memory of a beloved pet passed as we left the office. We had ordered a paw print of our dear cat and, to our surprise, it was hand-delivered to my sons home along with a card signed by the all the staff and the doctor. This will be my new veterinary clinic for my dog and I’m willing to drive all the way from Bear Mountain. People of this caliber are rare this is a true gem Of an animal hospital clinic.
I can not say enough good things about doctor Martin Klein. His love for animals is so palpable, it shines through. He was great at explaining everything so i could understand what was going on. Nothing but praise for him and everyone at the james bay vet clinic/fernwood vet clinic. Thanks for taking care of Snickerdoodle! I would recommend him in a heart beat!!
Thank you to the amazing Dr. Hagerty and nurse Chloe for taking such wonderful care of my dog from the day of appointment to the day of the surgery. Their level of care and professionalism eased my nerves and made me more comfortable with everything. I cannot recommend them enough!
The expertice, quality and thoughtful care my doggie who suffers from dementia has recieved has been exceptional! Dr. Haggerty and her team have my implicit trust- wonderfully supportive, communicative, responsive , and compassionate. Highly recomended!!
We've brought three cats here so far and we've been pleased with all visits. Dr. Klein is obviously determined to tell people about all of their options and the pros and cons of each. We're really appreciative of the details.
Friendly service and great vets
Very expensive and the vet favours dogs
Great and convenient veterinary clinic in James Bay. Great vet with great care and compassion with your pet. Not a very large space and not very warm and comfortable environment in exam rooms for the "humans" (compared to other clinics I have been to) although my cat seemed very comfortable and relaxed. I wasn't able to see the back room where they did some tests despite a small "pass through" type space between rooms. Not sure if they have x-ray equipment or the most modern veterinary technology equipment as I did not see it. However, the care and gentle manner of the veterinarian and assistant and the receptionist was so warm, welcoming and wonderful. Wish waiting room was a bit more comfortable and welcoming. Despite these small criticisms I would not hesitate to recommend this veterinary clinic.
Great Vets. Friendly, informative staff. Great service. Totally trust the care they deliver to my pet.
I needed a last minute appointment after moving to the Island, to update my dog's vaccination certificate before traveling abroad. Most other clinics turned me away for not being a client, but they got back to me super quickly and were able to offer me an appointment in time. Really appreciated it and would recommend!
I've been taking Coco to the James Bay vet since I moved back to Victoria over two years ago. They've always been very friendly and helpful, and clearly they adore all the little critters that come through their doors. The vets are always professional and very down to earth, and treat your pets like they were their own. The staff are also very knowledgeable and helpful, and love their jobs. It's convenient for me to walk to, and I've never heard of a dog pulling its owner to go into the vet, but that's what happens when we walk past the clinic -- Coco likes the environment and staff so much he wants to go in whenever we're nearby. :)

RAVE! I can't express how wonderful the James Bay Vet Clinic staff are. I'm a very anxious / helicopter cat parent and have experienced several different vets in search of the perfect place for our 2 kittens. The staff are beyond helpful and lovely, giving thorough explanations of every procedure, option and recommendation. They are also the first folks I call when I have a question about my pets' care and Kate is usually the one who answers my (many) calls with such helpful and kind advice. She's incredibly knowledgeable and patient with me. The physical clinic is beautifully maintained, very clean and COVID-safe. I recently took my male kitten to get shots and a check up. Dr. Kevin Hunt oversaw his physical check up and vaccines. Following the check up, Dr. Hunt gave me a thorough explanation of where my kitten was at in his development, health, teeth and bone development. (None of the other 3 vets I've visited have done this!) He offered a care plan for next vaccines and neutering, with a recommended timeline based on what he saw during the check up. I felt extremely well taken care of as a first-time crazy cat mom, but also felt better informed about my pet's health options. While I was waiting I also overheard Dr. Jeff Dand explain to a dog mom all the different options for a surgical procedure and was so impressed with the thoroughness of the explanation and once again, the health options clearly laid out. I've found that a lot of vet clinics make assumptions that you as a pet owner have the same knowledge about health options / procedures, when in my experience that's not the case. We've had a few little hiccups / unexpected issues with our kittens and it has been such a pleasure having the JBV clinic as a resource for a very anxious pet mom. :) I really can't recommend them enough and can say in comparison with other service providers, they are truly top notch.
Nice people, did a great job replacing my windshield! Cleaned my windows and vacuumed my truck no charge. Very happy with the service.
This has been the hardest review that I've ever had to write but I think it must be done. I took my dog here when I first moved to Victoria in 2020 for her usual shots and some cuts she got at the beach for my first visit with James Bay Vet Clinic. In March of 2021 I noticed she was sneezing and making a strange noise I brought her in for treatment since it was persisting. I was unable to speak to the vet in person, only over the phone due to covid protocols. Dr Hagerty rushed me on the phone and told me it was just allergies and an eye infection. I was very disheartened when she scoffed and laughed when I told her I was paranoid it could be something worse like cancer. Dr H. completely dismissed my concerns when I suggested this. She said it was just allergies and an eye infection. So I followed her instructions and treated her as prescribed. She had mentioned discolouration on her tooth to which I need Dr Klein to check on (he had done dental surgery in 2020) and wanted to make sure it hadn’t worsened. I was left feeling stupid and did not want to deal with her again. A few weeks later Lily was not getting any better, in fact she seemed worse so I made another vet appointment this time with Dr Klein since I did NOT want to deal Dr H again. He saw Lily and also thought it was allergies although he was much more compassionate and I was able to speak to him outside the clinic in person. He too thought I was being a little paranoid thinking she had cancer or something bad. More medications and another full price vet visit and I was on my way. When she still wasn't getting better we put her on steroids. A few weeks later and she STILL isn't getting better. I have another vet appointment with Dr Klein for shots and her tooth check. I get a call that I need to come back to the vet to discuss Lily. So OUTSIDE on the side of the street on a busy day in front of so many people Dr Klein discusses what he has found. He proceeds to tell me that Lily's jaw is loose and has a lot of "movement". I am shocked and really have no idea what that means in the moment but it is clearly very bad news. He tells me there are only two things he thinks it could be, a broken jaw or cancer. This was one of the most devastating moments of my life. I couldn't believe after being told I was "paranoid" by this very clinic for saying it was cancer it was potentially cancer. I also couldn't believe he choose to tell me outside in view of the main square in James Bay this news. I understand covid protocols are in place but I believe it was highly inappropriate to share this in such a public space. I think stepping inside with our masks on would have made the whole situation a lot easier for me. He was very hopeful that it was just a broken jaw. I was immediately referred to a specialist clinic. While they continued to check a few more things on Lily I was left at the busy intersection of James Bay crying. It was very embarrassing and I will never forget those moments. I appreciate that random strangers wanted to show their kindness towards me but frankly I would have high preferred my privacy in those very vulnerable moments. I paid for another full vet visit for the same issue. I never went back to James Bay Vet Clinic again, and honestly living in the same community as them is hard for me. It was the new vet clinic that diagnosed and treated Lily in her final time since it was in fact cancer. Bone cancer in her face. Lily was only 5. Overall I would NOT recommend this clinic for anything more than annual shots. The fact that I paid in full for 3 appts (never a recheck price or anything) for the same issue that they misdiagnosed multiple times is concerning. That I was told such disturbing news on the sidewalk and the lack of compassion from a certain vet makes me never recommend this clinic. The positives I have from here are the front desk staff is very kind, and that Dr Klein referred me to a very good vet for her final days. I would definitely not recommend this clinic to anyone with any concerns about their pets health.
Really liked the service there. Took my Schneuzer for a check up and some vaccines. Vet came talk to me and explained everything. The staff was very helpful and friendly.
Super friendly. gave me excellent advice when I was ordering special food for my severely allergic dog. Helped me find the best deal too. Thank you so much
Wonderful staff and a great new space. Dr. Hagerty is very personable and clear in her explanations.
Office was very accommodating when I just dropped in with my poor old dog. Vet gave him a thorough exam and made good recommendations to help ease his pain and make his life more comfortable. Found it costly but no more than other veterinarians. Otherwise would have given 5 stars as it is awesome to have a Vet so close.
“My husband and I would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to the staff at James Bay Vet Clinic for the incredible amount of time and work that it has taken to prepare Teddy, our 12 yr old Shiba Inu X, to fly to his new home in Sydney Australia. The staff, Dr. Brianne Hagerty, Samantha, and Anita, have been extremely helpful and caring throughout this long and detailed process. I would highly recommend the James Bay clinic and their top notch services, it was such a peace of mind knowing our dog was always in excellent hands. Thanks everyone!”
Had the little pupper fixed up in a jiffy!!
Friendly staff.
Great clinic and staff. I Highly Recommend them!
I was very impressed with the timeliness and efficiency of the service here, and was happy to see my neighbors in the office with their dogs on my first visit. This was my first time taking my 1-yr-old cat to the vet, and Dr. Pemble saw him in the afternoon on the day that I called. I dropped off my cat's urine sample at 5:00pm, and Dr. Pemble had processed it by 5:30pm and called me with the results. My kitty started treatment right away, and I found the price of the consultation to be on par with or less expensive than other vet clinics in town. This is a great community vet clinic, and I'm happy to be within walking distance of care for my cat.
Friendliest staff I've ever encountered anywhere, and very knowledgeable, compassionate veterinarians.
Dr. Dand is so good with my cats I can hardly believe it. They're not scared to go to the vet, just to go outside. All of the staff there were so good with my littlest cat when she needed dental surgery, they're my most trusted vet in Victoria. Nothing but stars!
My dog, Fern, is my family, so I am very particular when it comes to choosing a veterinarian. Dr. Brianne Hagerty has been providing care to Fern since our move to Victoria last year. The care and attention provided by Dr. Hagerty has been exceptional. Fern is always happy to go to the clinic, which is a testament to Dr. Hagerty's skills and her ability to put an animal at ease despite how scary a trip to the vet can be. Dr. Hagerty is always patient and informative during our appointments - I always leave knowing that Fern was well looked after and that we're on the right track as far as treatment is concerned. Thank you to Dr. Hagerty for taking such good care of our family member. Fern has also been seen by Dr. Dand at the Cadboro Bay Clinic for tooth extractions. As with Dr. Hagerty, I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Dand and the Cadboro Bay Clinic staff. As with the James Bay Clinic, Fern received exceptional care. I also want to thank the support staff at both clinics - it's obvious that all staff take great pride in their work and care for the animals receiving treatment.
Have been meaning to post this for ages. Your kindness, compassion & expertise has been sooooooooooooo appreciated by both my furballs & me. Thanks again...Debbi, Samantha, Tracey, Patrick & Simon!
Just based on my phone experience with the receptionist and how helpful she was willing to be regardless of whether I could afford to come in or not. Sadly that's hard to find but you could tell that they really did care about the animals. I move to Victoria about a year ago and my cat has some skin shoes and I was able to be totally helped and have my anxiety relieved over the phone because they just made a couple of simple suggestions, it was that easy. Once I'm ready to have my cats be revaccinated after the summer I will be bringing all three of them here !! Thank you ????
Great service!
Dr Hagerty and her assistant Samantha got my cat the Care he needed right away and the service was exceptional! Wouldn't trust anyone else to take Care of my fur baby!
Dr. Hagerty and Dr. Dand were fantastic. They provided excellent care for my whippet and were extremely attentive to our needs.
I've been with the James Bay Veterinary Clinic since shortly after it opened. I switched to them from my former vet because my old cat was fragile and I didn't want to stress him out with repeated lengthy bus rides. He was on his last legs but Dr. Benloulou and Dr. Pemble helped me keep him comfortable for a few more months and then, when it came time to say goodbye, Dr. Benloulou helped me do that too. I really appreciated his compassion and care. And now I have another elderly cat that needs veterinary care and the clinic is doing a good job with him as well. They charge the same as most other local vets and they do charge less if the animal is coming for repeat visits. They also follow up with periodic phone calls to see how Phred is doing. That's important to me because Phred's health issues are ongoing and I want his vet to care about him. I think the vets at James Bay Veterinary do. I would like to see more on-site facilities like there were at the former clinic I went to, but I think they have those facilities at their Cadboro Bay vet location and if it works out in James Bay and they get a bigger clientele it will be possible for them to expand and offer more services for neighbourhood pets. I hope that happens. We really need a full service veterinary in this neighbourhood.
Friendly staff who show they care about your pet. Open later hours some days which is very nice.
After being a very happy client for four years of Dr. Pemble and Dr. Benloulou, I was very pleased with the care provided by Dr. Jeff Dand. He listened with intent to my concerns of pain for my 11 year old Springer Spaniel, reviewed her history of urinary issues, allergies, diet, and recent medications. He provided a thorough examination and suggested a conservative approach, providing options on both tests and treatments. We then talked about different options for pain control to keep my dog free from pain, active, and comfortable. Other staff members, Sam and Anita, were professional and helpful, as always. I would highly recommend this team to care for your loved one Laura Sacilotto, RN, BSN, MEd Faculty - Camosun/UVIC (I care for the human animal)
Vet Breanne excellent skills in diagnosis and treatment of my dog.
The staff are friendly and thorough, but It seems to be more expensive over the last year ever since they changed the veterinarian. I had dental surgery done on my cat by the previous Dr. which included a teeth cleaning and a bag of food for $1800 last year. The new vet quoted over that price which did not include a cleaning or any extras. I also had to pay the $80 fee to get my cats second leukemia vaccine even though she had already assessed my cat 4 weeks before. I have spoken with friends who have not had to pay for return visits at other animal clinics. Moreover, the new veterinarian did not seem confident when speaking to me about my cat's surgery which made me lose trust in her ability to perform it safely.
I am very particular with which veterinarian gets the privilege of caring for my pets. I would recommend Dr. Dand and Dr. Haggerty without question!
I live in James bay and have been using James Bay Vet. Kate and Chad are outstanding and give great customer service.
As of July 2017 this practice has changed hands. I was really happy with Dr Benloulou but I am unhappy with the new owner. My 14 year old dog had a full blood panel done in February which showed everything was great but they won't renew his heart meds because Benloulou didn't do a unrine test as well and this new vet requires blood work and urine done every six months. Come on. That's a money grab. The dog is 14, I have been going to that clinic for years and take him in when he is ill. They also charge 15 a bag more than my new place. Too bad. It would be lovely to support a neighbourhood business.
Having just moved to Victoria before the pandemic, myself and my 11 year old Rottweiler and her sidekick, who happens also to be the king of the house, the cat. The dog developed bone cancer and sadly we had to say goodbye on August 17th. Almost 2 weeks to the day, the cat became very ill and was diagnosed with Pancreatitis. The care and compassion shown by Kate who always manages to Squeeze in an appointment, Chad, who was ready to come to the house to help me transfer the dog into my vehicle. Dr Hagerty, calm, caring, reassuring and understanding has made these terrible incidents, much more bearable. Would recommend this Veterinary Clinic to everyone.
When my dog Ziggy couldn't stop throwing up one morning they got me in right away and were very helpful. Thank you for your great service everybody.
We took our cat to Dr. Ben Loulou and were very impressed by the treatment she received. Dr. Ben Loulou is very thorough and empathetic with cats. On subsequent visits he was as thorough and provided a level of care that was exceptional.
The vets are really friendly and easy to talk to. They do an amazing job of explaining exactly what is happening with your pet in language you can understand rather than doctor jargon, and I trust them with my guy (a cat) very much. He went in for vaccinations and a microchip installation and was perfectly happy when he got home, which I didn't expect. The vet ans techs clearly made him very comfortable and made him feel safe. I highly recommend them!!
Great clinic in James Bay. Caring staff. Thank you to Dr. Martin Klein & receptionist Brenda.
James Bay vet clinic is amazing I think, they are not my regular veterinary but they helped when if I needed medicine or food and sometimes advice for my ageing cat who just recently lost his fight to stage 4 kidney failure, he was 15. Good luck with their upcoming move.
V. friendly. V. helpful. Not just trying to squeeze as much $$$ out of you as possible.
I am lucky to have taken my Black Lab to see Dr. Haggerty. Brenda at the desk is very gracious and a joy to speak with. Her mannerisms are gentle and very helpful. My dog is my life line as I have epilepsy and today she needed some medical attention. I have 12 years with 2 service dogs and I FULLY RECOMMEND JAMES BAY VETERINARY CLINIC. Dr. Haggerty was very gentle with Naveed and she rather enjoys the clinic.
They are more concerned with personal gain than the well being of my cat. They left me 20 min. longer in the waiting room with my stressed cat in a room filled with dogs. They didnt let me in the examination room in which my cat didnt get his vaccine, whole purpose of visit. One visit was all my cat or myself could manage.
they have jacked their prices since moving
Amazing. So helpful. They went above and beyond to help our cat. We can’t thank them enough.
Best vet clinic I've been to in a long time. Eveyone there was very transparent and open about options for treatment and what procedures were necessary. It was refreshing compared with other clinics.
I was very impressed with James Bay clinic since the new owner has taken over. The staff are friendly and welcoming. I brought my cat Oscar to get checked out by Dr Hagerty as I had some concerns. She was great and explained everything so well. She gave me all the available options and the cost was reasonable. I would highly recommend Dr Hagerty to everyone.
Our vets have taken spectacular care of our aging sick dog with such kindness that I will be forever grateful. It's been a difficult time and yet they give very thoughtful and common sense advice which has made this process much easier. I cannot recommend them enough. A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Hagerty in particular.
The folks here have always been very kind, helpful, informative, and accommodating.
They went above and beyond to try and help me with a bad experience I was having with another vet. The staff was so caring and friendly and I am so grateful for their assistance. I look forward to bringing my cats in for future visits. **update. Ended up having to bring my one cat in for check up. They fit me with on short notice and were beyond kind and accommodating. So grateful to have such a wonderful team of people in my corner.
Dr. Hunt cares and takes the time to explain everything. He takes a conservative approach to diagnosis and treatment. The front desk staff are courteous and professional. I think I've found my new vet. ????
. The vets did an amazing dental operation on my little dog.12 teeth. She recovered beautifully within a couple of days. I want to thank the doctors and staff for such good care and after care
