My daughter brought 2 rats in to be euthanized today. Our regular vet wasn’t available. I called around trying to find somewhere and preferably somewhere somewhat affordable. My daughter rescued these rats 6 months ago and has previously had vet visits. The vet was incredible. The cost was significantly cheaper than anywhere we had called. My daughter told me the warmth and compassion her and the rats were given. They were placed caringly wrapped in a box with a flower and she was provided paw prints for each. I want to express my gratitude for you treated my daughter and her pets. This was the first experience in her young adult life of having to say goodbye to a beloved pet. ❤️

Not the best service I've ever had. I asked for my dogs files to be transferred over to their clinic from another clinic due to location. I asked for them to call me when this was done so I could order flea/tick medication. This was about a month ago, still haven't heard a word from them. Pretty disappointing when I'm trying to give them my business and they don't follow up. Needless to say I've gone elsewhere and got my dogs flea meds.

Dr Kwan, Dr Mactavish and their staff do an amazing job of taking care of our sensitive guy Milo. They always go above and beyond with their care and explaining things to us first time dog owners. Without Dr. Kwan we would’ve never found out what was wrong with our little guy and his constant puking and non existent appetite. Getting the diagnosis of the Portosystemic shunt and quick action of sending off referrals asap to the specialty hospitals has saved our little Milo’s life.

Our son brought our small dog in to be checked. To start with, he said the person at the front desk was not very friendly at all. They kept our dog for a couple of hours and did a number of tests. At the end of that time they informed my son that they recommended more tests as they were thinking the dog could have 1 of 2 diseases but they weren't sure which. At this time our bill was around $500. We asked if we could consider the additional tests but the person at the desk informed our son that the dog could die from these diseases. So we did the additional tests taking the bill to around $650. We waited for days for the results only to have them call and say our dog was overweight and needed to switch to a different food. No diseases. No illness at all. We could see the dog was overweight. We have 3 dogs and the other two are not. He had gained the weight recently and had black scaly skin on his back. No mention of that at the end, even though they initially said that likely indicated something and one of the reasons for the extensive testing. It just became nothing. No mention of that ever again. $650 to tell us our dog is fat. Seriously? You gouge us for all this money only to tell us our dog is overweight? You ought to be ashamed of yourselves. We were already shocked with the initial bill but the mention of "the dog might die" played on our heart strings to get more testing done only to find out he's a little overweight (3-4 pounds). Absolutely appalling. I will never recommend your practice. In fact, I will repeat this story to anyone with a pet. My son said Dr. Kwan was friendly but this is ridiculous. Talk about padding a bill.

dr.kwan is pretty good. But "doctor" Heath is a charlatan and should be investigated and stripped of her lisence. Beware of "dr" Nancy Heath, avoid her at all costs. When she diagnosed my cat and then told me she has no idea what she's doing, I knew then this woman was a complacent incompetent and i sought a second opinion. Turns out everything she recommended was exactly the wrong thing and it calls into question her very quick diagnosis and her motivations for making such wildly horrible recommendations. Was it because she wanted me to come back again and again to get more money from me? Was she preying on my vulnerable state and concern for my pet? Yes, I believe so. Find a vet who is working in the best interest of your pet, and not out to finance her new Mercedes. If there's a doubt in your mind about going to this clinic, then follow that doubt and find someone else.

Excellent service from vets and staff. Very good with all our pets - 2 dogs and 3 cats - all with very different personalities and ages. (Dental work for our senior dog came in under the quoted price - also worked with the SPCA to honor our pups spay.) Not out to over charge you and always work with us to find affordable solutions, yet keeping our fur babies wellbeing a top priority.

They really looked after my little dog here when he had to have teeth extractions this year. He was cared for wonderfully, they make sure you fully understand everything and it's clear they don't overcharge like some places. Amazing service, 10/10. Dr. Kwan is so patient, thorough, kind... I could go on and on! I bring my cat and my rats here, and she has been amazing with all of them. She always gives a full health exam and explains it in a way that's easy to understand, and even puts a little humor in it. When one of my rats got sick suddenly she made time for me to bring her in that same day even though her appointment book was full, and that meant so much to me. I feel heard and important with her, and I trust my animals in her care.

So glad I switched from my previous vet to them! Dr. Kwan always does a great job of explaining things so you actually understand what is going on with your pet. Not pushy with products or unnecessary treatments. Front staff is friendly, prices are decent from my experiences. My dog doesn't seem to hate coming here like he did our last vet so it is always a much less stressful experience. :)

I can't express how much appreciate Dr Kwan's care and attention to detail. I have felt in the past that my small pet rats have not been treated with as much care as a larger animal might be. This is not the case at Helmcken. Dr Kwan was incredibly thorough, kind and knowledgeable, and I instantly trusted her with my pet and all future pets I may have. We received an estimate for work on our dogs teeth and took our little girl in. In the end our bill was just over $200. above the estimates top price. When we questions the receptionist she was not pleased, and actually quite rude. I guess most people just pay and never ask questions. She ask if we wished to speak to the doctor, good idea! A pleasant and informative conversation ensued and the ins and out of the issues that were dealt with were explained. With an explanation and information we were happy to have spoken to Dr. Kwan and also understood better the charges over the estimate. MANY THANKS for taking the time to speak with us and taking care of our little Suzie.

I lost my husky to cancer a couple years ago. It was one of the toughest things I've ever gone through and I just wanted to say how thankful I am to Dr Kwan at the Helmecken Vet clinic for how well they treated my dog and for being so supportive through such a difficult uncertain time. I have never had a vet go out of their way so much to be there to answer questions, get me important medications, or schedule me in on such short notice. Honestly any other clinic could have really financially benefitted from the situation I was in and charged me endlessly. I am forever grateful to Dr Kwan and the team.
