I would suggest that you don't go there if you have an emergency and that your bird is badly hurt. Okay for routine appointments staff is really kind. However, the vet didn't take the right precautions for my injured bird who's beak was bit. The situation even got worse while I was at the vet(the technician tried to give meds to my bird and it got his beak to crack and separate entirely). The vet said it was okay and his beak was still okay (WHICH WASN'T). His case should have been taken seriously and his beak should have been stabilised. Now I have a bird who will lose a part of his beak.

I had a good experience until I had to pay, which is when they told me there was a mandatory exam that costs 80$ for new customers. The veterinarians at this clinic saved my ferret's life. He was diagnosed with a very rare, deadly disease. The staff were very supportive throughout my ferret's treatment and always kept me informed as to what was going on with him. Everyone at this clinic are so friendly and helpful. I know that my fur babies are always safe at this clinic. I have even boarded my pets here when I have gone on vacation. I love that they play with my pets and don't just leave them in a cage all day while I am gone. I would recommend this vet clinic to anyone with an exotic pet

The best vet I have ever been to! My bunny has gone in for routine check-ups and to check out the boarding facility. Both were great experiences all around. They are organized and caring. They are also fair in their prices. High quality care of the animals (and their humans) and a good price. The person who watches the boarded animals clearly cares and is knowledgable about how to care for all exotics. They have high quality food and plenty of space to roam (but they keep the bunnies each in their own large pens so there's no territory problems). Also, they have a great retail store for anything you might need relating to your bird or other exotic. One day, my bunny had an abnormal growth near his bottom. It was during COVID, so I had called ahead. The receptionists are also very knowledgeable and offered to share any pictures I had with the vet via email. I did, something didn't look right, and they got right back with me to schedule an appointment. Although I ultimately had to make a tough decision, the vet (Sophie) and staff were so kind. I accidentally came to the appointment early and the receptionists offered to take James Bun to the back to chill for a while. They made sure he had space and veggies until it was time for his appointment. He was so relaxed by the time we did the formal exam! The vet had also taken the time to do a pre-exam and lay out quotes for various options. I know they were busy, so I don't know how she found the time, but bless her. She was upfront about what was necessary to do diagnose and treat...and what was "nice to have." A true scientist, there was no speculation, no judgement; she was kind and professional. I had done my research prior to the appointment and listened carefully to her surgery options. It all matched up, including the very fair quotes. My Buns is almost 8, I had a feeling whatever it is (abscess or tumour, unclear without an incision) would grow back, as Sophie found it was attached to internal organs. I decided potential multiple surgeries would be too much trauma for a little guy who had such an amazing life otherwise. They respected my decision (to put him to sleep) and handled Buns (and me) with the most delicate bedside manner I have ever witnessed, explaining to me how it works and asking when I wanted time with him or to be there with him during the process. My little buddy went in peace and that's all I can ask for. I'm so grateful to this pet hospital. Highly recommend. It's hard to find a place that has the knowledge to share, the heart to give and the soul to be fair. They get really busy, so call ahead.

They were always trying to get me to do a 350$ checkup just to see if stuff is wrong.. I fixed the problem in his gut with a home remedy of milk thistle! So inexpensive! Today I called to buy flea stuff and they wanted to do another 100$ checkup when all I need is a pack of advantage and actually couldn't afford the checkup if I WAS stupid. I was loyal to their clinic for many years and know how they operated. My ferret is scratching and isn't going to be alright until he gets his flea treatment. I know he has fleas because I washed him and picked them off of him. If you want a run of the mill, greedy, sell out veterinarian, look no further. I discovered that I can buy it at the Verdun Animal clinic even though he's never been there before. It's not a legal mandate for him to have any check up before the prescribe flea medicine -it was a money grab every almost every time that I went in there with those people. One of their cashiers was super rude to me after she found out I'm into holistic medicine. I mean he's almost dead -he doens't need a checkup he just wants to enjoy the last beautiful months of his life.

If you have samples to be analyzed, I recommend providing them as soon as possible because after 4 p.m. ish it will be postponed until the next day. I spent 400 for them to tell me they found nothing and to misdiagnose my rabbit. I'm glad I got a second opinion My baby was then prescribed 14 medications for an ear infection totalling about $230. I ended up giving her only one medication & she healed up fine. I was charged $900 for a 2 day boarding. The vet told me over the phone she was eating and drinking fine but I was charged for several force feedings & injections for hydration. Ps some of these positive reviews are written by staff, I looked over the shoulder of a receptionist as I was leaving and saw her filling out the google reviews section. She tried to close it quickly but I saw exactly what she was doing. Probably why there’s two of them but they only serve one client at a time.

The first time I took my bird here, it was very busy and I did not feel like I received the best service. I don’t think it was the fault of the veterinarians, but it was disconcerting. The hopital is under new ownership now and my experience today was nothing short of excellent. My bird was seen by the new owner, and I felt he gave my animal full-attention and a thorough examination, while respecting my budget constraints and explaining the cause and effects of my bird’s issues. The vet technician was very skilled and pleasant. She took time to show me how to correctly administer the medication. She is excellent with customers. The bill was affordable, so if you live in the Montreal area and are considering adopting or rescuing a bird, you can bring them to this facility without compromising its care or going broke. That’s a really nice feeling! I left reassured, and my little old bird has already shown signs of improvement. I’m really looking forward to building a regular vet-patient relationship with this hospital now. 10/10 would recommend.

I went home. unconvinced and moderately enthusiastic about the service. I called the veterinary hospital for birds and exotic animals in Montreal (rue Sherbrooke Ouest) which after an appointment diagnosed my dwarf rabbit with a tumor (thymoma) and little time to live. The very quick treatment with palliative drugs, the detailed explanations with the options available to me, the patience, all of which was complemented by great compassion, impressed me enormously. I highly recommend this veterinary hospital. (Original) Si je pouvais mettre 10 étoiles, je le ferai volontiers. La très rapide prise en charge avec des médicaments palliatifs, les explications détaillées avec les options qui s'offraient à moi ,la patience, le tout agrémenté d'une grande compassion m'ont énormément impressionné. The staff is extremely polite and professional, willing to accomodate appointment very late in the evening sometimes even after their office hours. I used to love them. However, after they switch owners, the new policy and attitude make the clinic feel like a money making place. The vet quality is definitely poorer than before. For chronic disease, they are not event willing to give out long-term prescription. Instead, they want you to go back every month or two (with low risk of side effect). For tests, they would not give out antibiotics, even though all signs suggested infection with clear blood dropping. The only way that they are willing to give out antibiotics is if one agrees to taking the test. And, the same goes with many common treatments.

I have taken my parrot for regular control and after advises of the vet he finally got weight. They also have very affordable boarding for bird where they take a really good care of your bird. They dont care about the animals all they care about is $$$$$$$. The take advantage of people's emotions towards their animal companion by charging you an arm and a leg for something that costs really nothing for them. They also charge extra for things they didnt do!!!!!! Said they took 2 x rays of my bird but did not as when i asked they coudnt even show me the x rays!!!!!!!! What a scam!!!!! The technician and receptionist told me that they will send it by email (which they never did). I will fallow up with the "protection aux consommateur" as all clients are entitled for the xrays and a copy of the medical report since we pay for it! Truth is i payed 460$ for a test they did to find out that my bird had a throat infection and they gave me antibiotics. Oh and they kept my bird overnight (note that there is nobody there over night). Then there is a what they call a "hospital" in the back (a room) where they keep the sick animals...yet u are not allowed to see it!!!! You know why? Because they dont want you to see!!!!! Then when i went to pick up my bird to bring him back home (bec i didnt want to leave him a second night over there for nothing)...plus they wanted to run more tests (biochemical test) which was not necessary. Didnt want to stress my bird more by leaving him there.... They even left my bird dirty (they told me they will clean him but never did). Anyhow they made us wait in a small room for (im not kidding u) 1 and a half hour!!!!!!!! They brought my bird in the cage and he looked worse that when i brought him. So i asked the technician that brought the bird that i wanted to take him home and give him the medication needed myself (antibiotics). Which i did and the bird is doing much better now!!! Btw...trust me...they dont have feelings its all for the money!!!$$$$ They take advantage of peoples emotions they know that some people are very sensitive and would pay anything to make their animal well....they take advantage of that fact....they count on that!!! Also i must add than when they gave me the medication for the bird they didnt give me the right instruction. For example they never told me that the medication has to be refrigerated (wasnt even written on the bottles). My aunt that was with us asked them before we left...and they said yes u have to keep it refrigerated. They didnt even give us a plastic cooler in the bag like pharmacies do (for the road) so i had to stop at a pharmacy and ask for one. Anyway....i didnt like how the treated us and for the service we got. I wouldnt recommend this place...i would suggest u google others before chosing to go to this one. The choice is yours! My 5yr old rabbit wasn't eating much in the morning and showed lethargic signs (first time in almost 2 years). I gave them a quick call, and the receptionist was very helpful. Luckily his situation improved but still brought him in for an examination (hadn't gotten one since the adoption) The vet was nice, explained everything in detail and I was happy to hear that he was perfectly healthy. He informed me that sometimes blockages can happen even if I do everything right, due to buildup of fibres and hair. I did take up on his advice to add papaya tablets to his diet (I already give him Oxbow Digestion tablets) as it helps breakdown hair. Overall had a good experience. Price was also reasonable. I can rest assured that, should anything happen again, my rabbit Peter will be in good hands.

But they do such an excellent job until the end, you feel secure knowing you did all you could. When Gaston had to be put to sleep, because of an deteriorating condition, it was one of the vets first day working, and yet she still had tears in her eyes as she did the procedure. Flint, my current rabbit is always treated so well. The front staff, the admin, vet techs, vets all have a happy smile and can help with almost any question, or get you the answer. I have only had the opportunity to have rabbits seen by Montreal Bird and Exotic Vet, but all my rabbits (3) were treated amazingly well, and so was their human!

My rabbit had surgery there for a tumour that was in the subcutaneous fat, I was told she was in good shape after the surgery. She died a week later. Although the staff seemed knowledgeable, I have no idea what happened during the surgery. I did not get to speak with the veterinarian after the surgery. When I did get a hold of her, she told me that she decided to skip the test that would determine if her liver and kidneys could handle the all the medications they would give her, and decided not to tell me this. I only found out she skipped this step by talking to another veterinarian. I don't recommend this place at all.

I’ve had a great experience at this clinic. The receptionists were both kind and helpful. I asked to be called if there was any cancellation as I was worried for my pet and they did. It was my first visit there, bringing in my guinea pig Ruby, and the clinic made me feel at ease. The doctor was super nice and took the time to ask about Ruby’s lifestyle and did a full exam (came in for an eye infection). Turns out that my piggie is having some rare eye condition and need to take medication with a follow up to monitor her symptoms. Best vet I've ever been to for any type of pet. I pick up my hedgehog today after she had a big surgery to remove her uterus that had a giant tumor. From the first phone call to make the appointment I was really happy. Even on the phone they sound so compassionate. The vet was very knowledgeable and patient. They took their time going over everything with me and gave my boyfriend and I time alone in the office to discuss and decide which course of action to take. As soon as my hedgie woke up from her surgery they called to tell me how she is doing and offered to let me come visit anytime that day since she would be staying an additional night for observation. There are some very good things and some very bad things about this hospital. First, the good: the team is clearly very competent, and you can tell that everyone really cares about the animals. They're flexible (open hours stretch past most people's work days which is amazing) and will always make time for you if there's an emergency. They really go out of their way for the birds. Now, the negative, the one thing that stops me from giving them 5 stars: they are very, VERY bad at communicating. And when I mean communicating, I mean everything: the technicians often don't know what the vet said, the receptionists don't know that the technicians said, the client (you) doesn't know the full extent of what happened or why. And it seems like they don't write everything down in the files? I'm unsure. I've been going there for several years and they took great care of my birds, but the lack of communication is absolutely exhausting. They'll forget things, won't write down everything (which results in people asking you questions that you absolutely don't know the answer to), won't tell you things unless you specifically ask them. Now, that's not that big of an issue when your bird is healthy. Check ups and such are absolutely fine. However, when your bird gets sick, that flaw becomes an additionnal stress that you absolutely don't need. I hadn't realized how bad it was until I went elsewhere. I was stunned that the vet over there took the time to go over every medication, explaining what they do and why they were prescribing them to my bird, why they choose the dosage that they did, and what I could do to make the treatment even more efficient at home. At the Veterinary Hospital Bird and Exotic Animal, the most you'll get is "I'm going to prescribe an anti-inflammatory and an antibiotic, give them for 7 days, the technicians will explain how to administrate, call back in 7 days". And that's it. The result is that not only are you still very stressed out about the whole situation, but you also find yourself incapable of making decisions if the bird's condition doesn't progress exactly like your vet expected it to. You don't know which med does what, what step of the treatment does what, so how can you perhaps determine that maybe doing a little more hydrotherapy every day could help tremendously? No, you don't know that, so you're either going to have to call back and talk to a receptionist who can't answer your question, who will then transfer you to a technician, who will then put you on hold and go ask the vet because they don't have any clue what your bird looked like a couple of days ago (and PRAY that the right vet is in office, the one that actually saw your bird), or you have to try and determine by yourself how to make the bird better, which you shouldn't have to do because you're not a vet and you're under heavy emotional stress. So, 4/5 stars. Great for every day problems. Faith declines as the bird's condition worsens. Lots of stress. Great for the birds, not great for the humans that own the birds.

Wonderful experience here, they took great care of our little Munchkin ???? until his very last day. Brought my rat here for an abcess, they did what they could for him though I have always had the feeling that they are not very flexible on their prices (I have also gotten quotes from them on the phone and instead of seeing what kind of arrangments they take I was told most people just "put it on a credit card and worry about it later" - which may be true but is not the most empathetic solution i've heard.) They also sometimes sound very fatalistic when you call to ask for advice, which pulls at the heart strings and almost makes you feel like you have no choice but to spend the money for your pet. I have been coming here since the middle 80's...when the office was located upstairs...with all of my pet rats. But yesterday I came with the first hamster that I have ever owned. I found the staff to be warm and knowledgeable. The price was reasonable.... and they spent a lot of time with Mousie Pie. I had somewhat of a bird emergency today and called them to ask if I should bring my green cheek conure in. They were able to take care of my bird between 2 appointments within an hour of my call. She ate something she shouldn't have so they gave her the appropriate treatment and kept her a few hours for observation. Consultations are $75 which seems to be an usual rate for avian vets. The people at the reception area were friendly and the veterinarian I talked to had time to answer my questions and explain the options that were available. When I came back to pick up my bird, they gave me a bag with different food and treat samples to try. They sell a few different kind of bird pellets (Tropican, Harrison's and Lafeber) as well as a small selection of toys, mostly the shreddable kind.

From my experience they are recommendable and efficient for dealing with rather benign issues. Actually quite good and competent when it comes so solving "minor", simple issues that could, if unsolved, result in more-or-less critical outcomes. But for more critical and chronic (yet quite usual) issues, unfortunately, their mistakes can lead to a pet's death, after expenses in the 4-digit range (and an agony of several months for the pet). They will also tend to refuse, or be reluctant about, major or minor surgical operations and recommend the customer to go with the more-expensive-on-the-long-term (and potentially absurd to the highest degree) medication option. Too bad... in the beginning I was satisfied with their services, but now I switched to another clinic. Maybe their expertise varies with the type of pet, but in my case, I am far from happy about my experience with them.

I went with my ferret there to get her checked for a bump on her head. It cost me 350$ in tests, to get told that the vet had no idea what was happening, and I then got lead on to believe that we might have to put her down if the bump they had drained was back a week later. The vet told me it was sometimes the right thing to do. I went to a second vet, who took 10 minutes and saw right away that she had a cyst, and got it removed the same day, and all for less money than this vet. I do not want to say that all vets working there are conducting this like a business, but that one vet did. I am happy to say that my ferret is now already in recovery and healthy, when I was told she should've been put down. Too much money, no diagnosis, and terrible advice. Always get a second opinion when your pet's life is on the line.

If you are the proud owner of a mischief of rats, this really is the best veterinary hospital you could hope for. Very conveniently located too, and not a long walk from Vendôme Metro if that is a concern. The reception staff are some of the downright friendliest people I ever had the pleasure of meeting. The veterinarians too are wonderful people. It can be a little expensive to open a file for each individual small, short-lived animal. The money is well spent, however, for the level of care and kindness your little friends will receive. Great place that I highly endorse. Edit: After a number of additional visits, for assorted reasons, I will reconfirm everything listed above as still being true since my first review. You and your pet will want for nothing while here. The facility also boasts a small store with modestly priced goods that every small rodent owner needs at some point. This is one of the best places to go if you are a rat person, though I am sure they serve other types of animals just as wonderfully.

I brought my new rescue bird here (a 23 year old dove) and he's doing so well now. He's a new bird. They taught me a lot about bird nutrition and gave me loads of sizeable food samples. They were empathetic to my financial situation, and kept costs as low as possible. My only negative criticism (and it wasn't the fault of the clinic, really) is that I told them I'd never had a pet bird before him, and I felt they should have instructed me on how to administer his meds properly. The first time I gave my dove his meds on my own, it was quite traumatic for bird and mom. In their defence, they had a lot of emergencies that day, and the staff were all very, very busy and stretched thin. However, you should make a list of important questions before your appointment. There are not a lot of exotics vets in Montreal, so prepare in case they are extremely busy. In general, I'm quite grateful to this veterinary clinic and the excellent work they do.

I will admit their prices are high but other than that I always have great service. One vet in particular was very honest about putting my rabbit down which means she really cared for the welfare of the animal rather than trying to make an easy buck. I've seen vets in the past try to take advantage of a pet owner's desperate situation or make them feel guilty. She was even kind enough not to charge for the euthanasia since the bill was high to begin with as he stayed a couple of nights with no improvement.

I took my rabbit in before Christmas because he wasn't passing any stools and I was extremely worried. The staff were super friendly and made me feel super comfortable leaving him overnight. I was really impressed with how much they cared about him and showed a lot of compassion towards us both. I picked him up the following day and he was 100% better. I was also impressed because they offered me several choices of treatment to accommodate my tight budget and the final invoice did not go over the estimate I was given. The staff and vets here have been like family to me for a long time and I have nothing but good to say about them. I am eternally grateful. They took care of my parrot for many, many years right until the end of her life this past August. They truly tried to do everything they could to help her and were so gentle and respectful to me during that really hard time. I brought my bunny Kristy to the Vet yesterday evening. I had an appointment as she was not well at all. She was seen by the Vet and was prescribed a few medications and got 2 injections. When I got home, she was worse than when i went in. A few hours later she was beginning to have seizures. I comforted her and held her until she died in my arms at 12:20AM . I called the Exotic vet to announce her passing and to prepare to close her file. I always ask for a copy of the report of the medical visit to keep in my file. The secretary tells me there is a $10. charge for that. I didn't want the whole file just the visit from the day before. Enough I was charged a pretty penny the night before now they want more. The pain of losing a precious pet, and then they want to gouge you for more money. I'm so disappointed and angry at what this clinic has become.

My sister took my bird there yesterday since he was having problems breathing. After xrays the vet suspected he had fatty liver disease. They gave them 2 options further testing or injecting him with drugs (antifungal, antibiotic, pain killers). I told them not to give anything because fatty disease is not an infection we just need to change his diet. The vet looked at my sister and told her "youre putting him in pain right now" she played on her feelings for the bird till my sister agreed to give him a "liver cleanse" which was the vibravenos antibiotic (the vet lied about what the drug was to push it on my sister) also gave him a pain killer metacam which i calculated was the right dosage Today (the day after) my bird changed altogether and died...my sister called the vet as he was dying she was very careless on the phone and didnt even show empathy when he died minutes later. 2 things couldve killed him: the barium used for the xray that couldnt be eliminated from his body or the docycyline used which is not recommended anywhere in litt for burds with enlarged liver. Not all the vets there might be incomptent the one we saw was Genevieve Bisson. If you want to kill your pet go there they will try to push things so bill goes up without feeling any remorse.
