Our Brie has been a regular visitor over her 15 years at the Dakota Veterinary Hospital and I have never been disappointed with the high calibre treatment or care provided by all the staff. They're friendly, immensely competent and their love for animals is clearly evident from the moment you walk through the door. What more could you ask? Brie has always has been happy with her treatment and care (as have I) and she's reached the a ripe old age 15 years as spry and full of life as ever. Best endorsement I can think of.... :-)

They take social distancing very seriously, which keeps everyone safe. The door is locked, so when you get there you can call them and let them know that you are there for appointment, picked up medicine, dog food, etc. Some products will be bought to the door. You can pay by credit card preferably over the phone. Felt very safe! Staff was very friendly!

I have been going to Dakota since I've had my dog, just over three years now. I had originally picked this veterinary hospital by the reviews they had and have not regretted this decision. I can't say enough about the staff and Dr.Bartley. I have had many visits over the years for various reasons with the most recent one involving an enucleation for my dog, I was heart broken but with the caring and compassionate approach from the staff I felt supported and not alone. My dog would also attest to the outstanding care as he gets so excited when he sees Dr.Bartley. If you are lucky enough to have Dr.Bartley or any of the staff at this clinic then you know what wonderful care they give. If you are looking for a place, you can't go wrong with Dakota Veterinary Hospital.

I am really impressed with the staff & vets at Dakota Vet. I have brought both my own large, animal reactive dog to this location, and numerous dogs from a rescue that I work with. No matter the dog nor the situation they are always so kind, knowledgeable, helpful, and caring. I really feel like they care about the animals they work with and understand the love we as humans have for our pets. I would highly recommend this place!

I am beyond happy and super grateful for having found Dr. Gould again as well as Dakota Veterinary Hospital after having to change hospitals five times for various reasons over the last 40 years. Dr. Gould treated my Miniature Schnauzer Alpha while at Best Friends Veterinary Hospital. I was extremely happy with her tremendous compassion, and excellent and professional care. My two Boston Terrier cross Pugs had their first visit for their annuals in June. Yesterday they went in for extensive dental cleaning and two extractions. I was simply overwhelmed with how gracious, friendly and attentive all of the front end manager and staff treated me, mother Lily and daughter Callie. Dr. Gould and the techs did an amazing job during the cleaning and surgery and at a cost that was quite reasonable. Both of my dogs recovered from the anesthetic and other effects quite rapidly, and today they are completely back to their normal selves - except that their food has to be softened. I extend my warmest solid gold thanks and enormous gratitude for literally saving my furbabies from having to be put down. ????

Recently, I had to put my dog down, for how much I miss her, I appreciate the doctors at Dakota Veterinary Hospital for giving my dog a phenomenal experience to leave with, they took care of her, and made her comfortable. They gave us lots of time to stay with her and express our emotions, and they provided a safe space once she was gone, with this being my only experience with them, I was astonished at their professionalism and care that they showed me and my family, they really cared about my dog, and for that, I'm extremely grateful, thank you.

Horrible experience..2 weeks before Xmas I brought my baby girl to Dakota Vet to have her (what I thought was kennel cough) looked at. I wanted to find a new vet closer to home so I took her there. I had no problem getting an appt for the same day , and now I understand why. Maple is a miniature sheltie and such a good girl. When I was giving reception all of maples Info she asked if she had been spayed. I said no and she gave me such a disgusted look and said " why would you not do that for her?. She had no idea what my baby girl had been through in her life . She made me feel like a bad mom. ( I rescued her when she was 2 she had been through a lot) We had our reasons and I didn't go there to be judged. ( I stayed because I wanted to have Maple assessed ) The first and only thing they did ( no blood work , not temperature was take) was say her pulse was a little erratic and they wanted to take a couple different X-rays. She has always been a healthy girl and she still looked and acted like a puppy even though she was 12. They said they wanted to rule out pneumonia so I agreed. When this very young vet came into the room she told me maple had an enlarged heart with fluid all the way around it and fluid on the lungs. I asked if that meant she had pneumonia ,she said she couldn't be sure unless she did blood test to make sure it wasn't heartworm. they took her blood and we waited for about an hour for the results. The vet came back and said she is in congestive heart failure. I didn't understand What that really meant? They said they could use Meds to help her so I thought it might be something that could be cured over time,when I asked how long it will be before I see in improvement, the vet looked at me and said she has about two months up to a year to live . I just broke down, I wasn't expecting to hear that! the vet looked at me as if she was surprised to see my reaction and said " oh sorry " I didn't know what to do,I was just told my baby girl was dying . Needless to say I was in shock. They wrote me a prescription for heart meds and promised they would get back to me in a couple of days to check on Maple to see how she was feeling and if I'd seen a change in her with the medication. Nobody called, they had my email and nobody emailed. Once I paid my bill I didn't hear from them again. It was absolutely a horrible experience. I wouldn't wish this on anyone . Two weeks to the day that she was diagnosed I am heartbroken to say she died in my arms at the emergency Pembina Highway vet clinic on New Year's day at 3 AM. I thought I would've heard from Dakota vet when I didn't renew her prescription for her heart medication, but they still have not bothered to check in to see how she's doing. Not only did they say they would check in two or three days ,but they also said they would check in in two weeks after to make sure the medication was working properly before they refilled it . They were very uncaring and felt like they were very unsympathetic to the news they had given me. I could hardly drive home I was crying so hard. Right up until the day she died she was her same old spunky happy excited self. I don't recommend you taking your fur baby to this clinic. The atmosphere in there felt so cold. The sympathy/empathy was definitely lacking. They made all these promises and didn't keep one. I was sent home with a diagnosis I had no idea about and had to research myself, and with heart medication without information sheets on it. Plus a $500 bill to tell me my baby was dying. ( Meds would cost $160 a month)makes me sick to drive by Dakota vet every single day and know that somebody else is going to get the same treatment that my little maple did. I decided to write this review because I feel people should know what the clinic is really like. It's heartbreaking. With other negative reviews I've noticed that the reply is usually " we couldn't find a file in your name" that alone told me how unprofessional, Uncaring and on organized they are. Once they take your money they dont care . Heart broken

The best veterinary practice I've ever dealt with in 40+ years of life with dogs. Although they are dealing with more clients than ever during this pandemic, I never have to wait too long for my dog to be seen nor do I feel rushed when I need to ask questions. Dr. Bartley and her staff of vets, technicians, and admin staff are always friendly and obviously care tremendously about the animals in their care. For the first time in his life, my dog is happy to go to the vet and that says a lot!

Dr Bartley is the best vet in the city, I'm convinced. I have a hundred pound rescue who is terrified of the vet, and can be dangerous when worked up. Dr Bartley and her team always go above and beyond to get us in and out quickly, safely, and with the least trauma possible for our dog. They clearly care so deeply for every pet and person who comes through their doors. I'd happily pay through the nose for that kind of care, but it's also shockingly affordable. I'll never leave, there's no one else I would trust with her care.

We adore the staff at Dakota Veterinary Hospital (DVH). We have been patients of Dr. Gould for nearly 7 years. From adoption to spays/neuters to medical emergencies. The staff are patient, gentle and extremely knowledgeable. When our animals were in crisis, DVH answered questions, scheduled short-notice appointments, provided hands-on direction and medication... and then followed up by text message to see how the critters were recovering. The entire team at Dakota Veterinary Hospital is nothing short of amazing. They have been home to our rescue since our doors opened over a year and a half ago. Dr. Gould is beyond fantastic and very skilled with all of our critters. If she doesn't know how to solve an issue, she finds out how, and quickly. The clinic is always able to see us quickly in case of emergencies, and has done so much to support us. We also take our person pets, and we couldn't be happier. Keep up the fabulous work!

They didnt take my concerns about my cat being underweight serious enough and I almost lost him. They just kept telling me he was a small cat and not to worry. Well, I took him to another vet due to his full pound weight loss in the span of only a couple months. The new vet I brought him too actually did a full exam with blood work and we are in the steps of trying to determine if he has IBD or GI Lymphoma. Either way he is doing much better now. So dont bring your animals to Dakota unless you want to be made to feel like you are just a complete crazy person, and get constant conflicting information from different people. OH and when I got the copies of his medical files. They made up reason as to why I brought him in. A+ plus guys.

Brought my parrot in for an initial checkup. The experience was pleasant. They were very gentle with the bird and Dr. Gould was very honest and upfront on whether blood work was required or not. She was very pragmatic and advised the least invasive we can be towards an animal that is healthy, the better. It isn't always about money and up sell here. Twice now I have taken my dog in for issue and they told us to "see how it goes" and NOT GO for a invasive surgical procedures. The surgeries were discussed but they said it is a little early to do so and see if a few months of rehab resolved the issue. A similar situation happened again with a broken tooth. Checked to see if the tooth was impacted or creating aa issue and they said " not now... see what it does over time and then we can act" . They really seem to care about the animals they treat..... just like this dog parent! Keep up the great job!

The staff at DVH are exceptional. My dog loves going to the vet and the care provided is excellent. My boy had a cancer diagnosis earlier this year requiring surgery. Unfortunately, he required another surgery from an outside surgeon and the recovery was, and still is, challenging (for reasons beyond anyone's control). The staff have been accessible, caring and helpful with his care. Even after 2 surgeries, coming off anesthesia, a painful post OP experience and follow ups he still loves coming to the vet. He is excited, loves the staff and is (as per the staff) such an easy patient. I have had good experiences with the staff and they are genuinely concerned with his wellbeing.

We had a very unexpected and sudden emergency with our senior Pug, Leroy, yesterday. Due to the nature of what was happening, we didn't feel we had enough time to get him to our regular Vet, and Dakota was recommended. I don't remember a lot about the visit, as we were both very upset, but do remember the efficiency, compassion and professionalism of everyone encountered. Even though we sadly lost our Leroy, I would not hesitate to take our animals to this clinic again. I ended up here on a whim as they were the only place I could find with an opening today and I'm so glad I did! The receptionists, vet techs and doctor (Dr. Ruhlen) were all amazing and so loving to my little guy! I really enjoyed Dr.Ruhlen as she was very knowledgeable and didn't suggest against raw feeding which several other vets have done (and was also very knowledgeable on CBD for animals, Yay!). We had a bit of a miscommunication on the phone about pricing this morning and they were kind enough to honor the price they quoted me originally. The office also had a little cat tree in the patients room which was a really nice touch and made Tisserie feel right at home! This will certainly be Tisseries regular vet from now on, I would definitely recommend taking your little fellas here! (Bonus points for having knowledgeable on sphynx cats too!!)

If I had known that I could walk-in and get priority, I would not have made an appointment two weeks in advance. Took my boy chai (frenchie) here for the first time a couple weeks ago. i have never been so happy with a vet to where i’d come leave a review, Dr.Vonderbank is extremely kind, patient with chai and very thorough when deciding what care is best for him and also when explaining everything. Chai is a special needs dog and requires extra care and has had a tough time recently, Dr.V took time out of her day to call on multiple occasions to check in on chai and help guide us when we were making decisions for his emergency care. Also the assistants and front desk staff were so kind i appreciate it a lot, i’m pretty sure ones name was shauna, she stands out to me and was so complimentary to chai she’s awesome. This is a business where i feel more than okay with giving them my cash and the value exceeds how much you pay.

The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, they treat your pets like family, and they don't try to get you to add extra unnecessary procedures your pet doesn't need. Tonight my husband and I, Brock and Natasha Anderson are mourning the passing of our wonderful daughter Sasha June Anderson. Sasha was born in Nova Scotia and was rescued at four months from an animal shelter. She was found in the woods, taken to the shelter almost frozen to death but brought back to health and then was adopted by us. She loved lying on my pharmacy books as I studied to become a pharmacist with her brother Henry (he passed away several years ago), they were best of buds. Sasha moved to a couple of provinces and finally ended up in Winnipeg. She told us when to go to bed, was a wonderful snuggle bunny with me (her momma), loved coming to the shower to have the water sprayed on her, loved her heat and laying in the sun, was a real head-butter....just the daughter of our dreams. Sadly today Sasha June passed on her own terms. She fought a long battle with kidney problems, a bladder cancer tumor and then severe anemia. We did everything possible for her with the assistantance of all of the Family at the Dakota clinic. What a caring team! We took Sasha June in today for her injection, however her body was weak and could no longer fight, the trooper she was at 18, she went in her terms like a true Anderson. She died in my arms, no pain just peaceful. I held her afterwords for almost an hour and the staff were so wonderful and consoling. Dr. Sheri Gould was by her side all the way. We thank her for her compassion and understanding, she was so graceful and helped her pass without pain. She is an extrordanary vet and we thank her. Also to all of the staff at the clinic, thank you for loving Sasha as we did. Also a sincere thanks to Dr. Bartley, she was with us all the way. Sasha did not come home today and her two brothers, Sam and Sebastian and sister Sophie are upset and wonder where Sasha is. They are by our side and lots of loving and caring is going on. In summary, thank you everyone for caring for Sasha, you helped prolong her life without any complications until her body was done. Today, she went out her way. She will be forever loved, never forgotten and now in heaven with her brother Henry. 18 years baby...was a blast and a great time!!! Love ya Sasha! Again, thank you again and again for the love and understanding from the Dakota Vet clinic and staff!!❤❤❤Sincerely Natasha and Brock.

I've seen all the vets, vet techs, and vet assistants here and always get great service. They truly care about the individual animals and are willing to answer any and all questions. UPDATE: My animals now see Dr. Bartley almost exclusively. We love her! She is happy to answer all my questions (I ask a lot of questions) and I always leave feeling fully informed and empowered to handle whatever medical challenge one of my animals is going through. She is honest but kind when we discuss things I should be doing differently, such as feeding more/less or socializing one of my animals more. I am constantly recommending Dr. Bartley and Dakota vet to friends and family. I have been to a number of clinics with various fosters from a few different rescues and while the care has always been adequate, Dakota is easily still my favourite.

Not a fan. Was not offered heart worm meds after test was negative. Surgery went well, but had a reaction the the stitches. Left feeling uninformed, even after asking questions. There are better options in the city.

In fact this vet office was recommended by the Canadian School for Guide dogs for the Blind, where my dog was trained. I have had bad experiences with other vets in the City and had lost faith with Vets so when I rescued a dog from up north I was in a pickle to decide where I would take my little guy for his vaccines and his forever vet! I posted on my River Park South Facebook community page to get a flavor of which vets came out with really positive reviews regarding price, opening times and most importantly overall care and Dakota Vets was mentioned more than anywhere else so I booked my guy in for an exam and a couple of needed vaccines. The care I received from making the initial call through to appointment day was second to none! And the pricing is a lot less than St Vital Vets, Central Vets, Southglen Vets and Bridgewater vets! I look forward to Dakota Vets being my guys forever vet and building a relationship with them moving forward.

Just prescription food seller. They couldn't look directly into your eyes when they tried to sell those garbage food your furry friend would never need it. Those food can have serious kidney damage while you feed for a while. I regret already and I hope my cat feel better.

Experience was from about a year ago. Reception and vet techs/assistants were good. Unfortunately our vet, Dr Gould, came off as quite cold and impatient while she was looking after our cat. She prescribed multiple meds, which we were fine with getting, but when we asked some basic questions about then, she didn’t seem to like that. It was a Friday before a long weekend, and when we asked her about needing 3+ antibiotics as opposed to just 1 she just said “well we’re gonna be closed for the long weekend so do you really wanna risk it?” Unimpressed with her bedside manner, she simply was unwelcoming.

You can trust that their prices are fair and that they would never try to oversell you on anything you don't need. In February our dog got quite sick the day before we were leaving for a holiday in Mexico. My cat gets better, more attentive and thorough healthcare here than I do with my GP. We got our cat from the humane society knowing that he was having skin and diarrhea issues. Our vet did a great job in narrowing down the cause of these issues and suggested a specific food brand that has helped him. I never feel like any course of action has been "pushed" and all of the facts are given. We have been told good preventive information as well. Phone follow-ups to medical treatments have been a really nice touch as well! Our cat also had dental surgery here and there was lots of follow-ups to his recovery. Also, they taught us and helped us with how to cut our agitated cat's claws. Bonus! I definitely recommend taking your pet here.

Update: I had dealt with Jennifer, the office administrator regarding some meds for our two Yorkies. Jennifer was incredible in terms of the customer service, as well as her care and concern. She was extremely efficient and accommodated our needs. I continue to give Dakota 5 stars! Incredible staff who continue to make our experiences a positive one!! We have been going to Dakota for several years now for our two Yorkie fur babies. The staff at Dakota are exceptional, kind, caring and encompass the kind of environment you would want for your pets. We recently had our two babies get sick and took them to Dakota. Their recovery took a while however Dr. Gould was absolutely incredible. She kept in regular communication with us and also responded to all of our ongoing questions and concerns even after hours. She made a stressful situation into one that was calming and reassuring. Arrived at 4pm on a Saturday when they close at 5pm! Our 8 yr old husky cross "Penny" had been vomiting for 30 mins after 48hrs of some loose stools. They were very professional and did a very extensive work up to discover she had pancreatitis. Treatment was provided and they gave us options in case Penny's condition worsened over the weekend, even gave us the vet's email if we had any questions.

Not very happy with service. First, they send my dog’s insurance to the wrong company. I knew this because I got a letter from the insurance company saying they didn’t find a policy under my name. I called the clinic to let them know about this and was told, they will re-submit the form to the right company. A few weeks into my vacation, thought I’d follow-up. Emailed them and nothing was done. Was advised I have to fill out the form and send it to them and they will submit it to the insurance company. I don’t think I’ll be doing that! I should have just done it myself if I know their service would be this bad! It was my first time time doing this and thought that it’s cool the they submit claims directly for their customers.

Great service! My pup had diarrhea so I called them to see if it was a normal reaction to just having her shots, turns out it was not so they had me bring in a sample which they tested that day.
