I called this place based on over 400 reviews. I usually don't give bad reviews but after the conversation I had on the phone I was extremely disappointed. They might not accept new patients at this time but really?? The way the receptionist talked to me was not professional at all. 2/10

I took my pets in to this veterinary clinic for their personal and professional way they deal with not only the animals but also with their owners. The staff are friendly and the vets treat my animals as if they were theirs. The fees are reasonable and they are more than accommodating should you find yourself running late or even early. I trust Cottonwood for ALL my pets needs. Keep up the good work!!!!!!

I’ve been going to the same vet for over ten years. For the last two years or so I’ve been trying to get a diagnosis for my cat and my previous vet just wasn’t interested in figuring out what was wrong with her. I had heard good things about Cottonwood so I figured I’d get her checked out there. I’m SO glad I did. Dr. Mueller has been working very hard to figure out what’s going on with my cat from the very first appointment. She’s extremely kind and patient (with me as well as the cat haha), never makes me feel like a burden for asking a bunch of questions and you can tell she genuinely cares about the animals she works with. She’s been going above and beyond what I would expect from any vet and I’m positive that my cat is getting the best possible care with her. As for the clinic itself, I find the prices match up pretty well with everyone else and I’ve noticed a few things are even cheaper than most places. The staff are incredibly kind and always helpful. I would recommend this vet to anyone and it’s safe to say that I won’t be switching vets anytime soon.

We have been clients of the Cottonwood Veterinary Clinic in Chilliwack for 10 years. Dr. Maurhuis has been our vet and he has been excellent. He is very personable, gentle, and caring and patiently answers all my questions. He honestly explains any concerns, procedures, options and always provides a reasonable estimate before treating our dog. On a few occasions, he has called mid-surgery to discuss the options, cost and possible complications and has been empathetic and respectful of our wishes. When he has recommended or offered services that we have declined, we have not felt pressured or judged, and when our beloved Mazie Day passed away during the Covid19 pandemic, he allowed me to be with her in her final moments at the clinic, in spite of health and safety regulations. Now, we confidently trust the care, treatment and advice of Dr. Maurhuis as he treats our new puppy.

Didn't like my experience at all. They were very good about squeezing me in last minute. But when I brought my dog in, the doctor took my dog with little explanation to what he was doing when my dog was howling with pain. He said he was going examine her. He didn't tell me he was going to do the procedure he did on her till he already did it with me in a separate room. And when he came back I was asking legitimate questions and he treated me like I was an alien or mad that I was questioning him. After all this and the stupid procedure he did. It was outrageously expensive, my dog was traumatized and the receptionist didnt answer questions kindly either. I asked if I could get a doctor's note for medication instead and they didnt really give me the option and just said " well, the dr would charge you a lot for the note anyway.." . It wasn't an overall pleasent experience AT ALL. Never going back, I will be finding a holistic vet that isn't about throwing tons of chemicals and medications at every animal that comes in and being a money grab. I would have liked way more explanation, questions answered and he didn't ask me a single question to maybe figure out why this happened to my dog. In and out ????

We tried many different vets when there was something wrong with our family dog, but Dr. Slander was the only one able to actual help and resolve our dogs issue. We just recently moved from White Rock and ha to find a new Vet in Chilliwack. We look a few veterinary clinics and have decided to go with Cottonwood after having met the vet at a meet and greet. Our dog had a dental cleaning as well as a minor surgery completed without issues or problems. We took our elderly dog to Cottonwood vet clinic after having little success with a previous vet regarding his skin condition and apparently allergic reaction. Dr. Mueller, having trained with a veterinary dermatologist, was able to quickly and accurately diagnose our elderly dog with an allergic reaction to fleas. Within 48 hours of receiving an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment, our dog was starting to feel much better. He is energetic and engaging, whereas before he was lethargic and unhappy. I would highly recommend Cottonwood vet clinic, the staff is professional, caring, and well trained.

Grateful for Adaptil dispensor and refill cartridge it really helped my new houseguests with their greiving process. Lactating mother synthetic hormone dispenser, some milk and some teeth brushing. My houseguests feel so much more at home. it's like a "reset" to the nursery when they were puppies. I really recommend this product and also this staff.

I wouldn't give them a single star, but you need to in order to post a review. I will say that they are good if you have a LOT of money, but try to get a refill for medication without booking an appointment... GOOD LUCK! Our rat has an upper respiratory infection that is taking a long time to clear up, and they did give me a second medication to add without another appointment, when after a few days he wasn't getting better... but after a week the second medication ran out. I called to get it 'refilled', and was told that I'd need another appointment. I explained to them that I was on disability, didn't get my check for just over a week, that I didn't think he would last another week, that the $100 that I'd paid them the previous week was all that I had until then, and that I just barely had enough to cover the price of the medication. The mercenaries said "SORRY, no appointment, no refill". :( Our other two rats, and our two cats will be going elsewhere from now on!

I took my guinea pig in for a check up because he escaped from his cage and I have two cats, the vet did an extremely rushed exam and made a rush decision for prescribed medication. It is not even a week after I brought him in, and he has gotten worse and now has to be put down because the vet rushed over his exam and missed what was wrong. And they wanted to charge me 50 for the euthanasia and 80 for ashes back, when every other place was cheaper than them. This literally has to be the worst place in town.

Recently, I had to do something that was heartbreaking. My beautiful boy, my big ginger kitty that had been with me for 18 years had to make his journey over the rainbow bridge. Considering my cat just had surgery this morning he is recovering nicely. When the vet tells you she is thinking about the surgery the night before, then you know she cares. I won't know what the growth is that was removed from my sweet cat's head today, but he was taken very good care of and is now in recovery, calm, eating and his mother couldn't be happier. (Around Xmas 2016) (Munsch went over the Rainbow Bridge Jan. 3, 2019. Our vet came to our home with an aide and with a dear friend, we bid this four-legged furry angel farewell. After 18 1/2 of companionship, I will miss him dearly. I highly recommend having this done at home. Munsch's time had come & I am very grateful to Cottonwood Vet Clinic & the beautiful card they sent me afterwards. This still makes me weepy.)

Half way through my moving day, I encountered a heart problem and needed to be transported to Chilliwack general hospital. Upon my return had seen some of the church folks helping , in awe I was also told (Cleo) my baby was taken to her vet .This was because she was very stressed. Cottonwood veterinarian clinic was the best as they took her in and cared for and kept her for two days.I was so appreciative of this and they also gave her the medication she needs .I have been a long time customer of 10 years or so , and will be for many more. We would like to tell you about Cottonwood Clinic, the wonderful, caring staff and the absolutely professional and the fantastic Gentleman himself; Dr. Maarhuis. We brought our beloved little boy Wee Willie to their clinic for almost all of Willie's life. They treated both Willie and us, they were always friendly, kind, and very professional. They loved our little boy and cared for him in a very kind and loving way. Late July of 2015, our little buddy and beloved Willie came down with cancer and they way the Doctor and his staff treated Willie was so very appreciated by my Wife and me. Willie had lots on tests and he was found to be terminal with this cancer. We took our little boy for one last walk, (he was so sick, yet he gave us so many kisses and looked right into our eyes and let us know that he loved us so very much). He was so sick and he had little strength. We brought Wee Willie back to the clinic and after a very emotional talk with Dr. Maarhuis, who was so kind, patient, and very understanding and with tears in his eyes explained our options) Wee Willie was so sick that to attempt to try other means would have been selfish on our part, so we relieved Willie from his suffering. What a day, how we love our beloved little boy and to say goodbye was truly heart breaking ...... Dr. Maarhuis was so comforting to us and to our little boy!!!! Thank-you so very much Doctor, thank-you! The staff were very sensitive to us and were the uttermost professionals - Thank-you to each person of the staff!!! In closing, through Wee Willie's life the Doctors and staff were FANTASTIC to Willie, they were so gentle and loving to him and Willie gave a review of his visits on another website about these marvelous folks at Cottonwood Clinic, Wee Willie gave Dr. Maarhuis and the staff 5 paws!!!! We have three pets (two dogs and a cat) and thus I’ve spent much time at the veterinarian’s office. If you love your pets as family members, I couldn’t imagine a better place for you to trust with their health. Vanessa and Sam up front go above and beyond in their assistance, friendliness, care, and concern for our animals. I always look forward to chatting with them when I come in. Dr. Selander is our main vet and the respect and affection she has for animals is obvious. A couple of months ago, our puppy Harlow began having seizures and was very sick. My mom, who came to see her grandpuppy, commented on how much compassion for us, and Harlow, that she could see in Dr. Selander’s eyes. Dr. Selander allowed us to spend the day in a room with Harlow hooked up to IV as we clung to the hope that she might make it through, and when, after doing everything they/we possibly could for her, we had to make the heartbreaking decision to let her go, the shared sadness and the sympathy from the staff was evident. I’ve also had the pleasure of seeing Dr. Maarhuis when Dr. Selander hasn’t been available and have appreciated his calm presence and the time he’s taken both to examine our animals, and to explain the situation, whatever it may be, to me. I never feel rushed when I take my pets here, and I always feel, thanks to the staff’s love and attentiveness, that I can fully trust them with the most important and cherished things in my life: my pets.

All I can say is WOW!!! These professionals know how to treat a patient and their worried families. Thorough examination done, cause of recurring issue found, medication prescribed, and an ongoing treatment plan discussed to avoid a recurrence of the issue. This issue had caused my dog almost a year of discomfort, multiple prescriptions, and very expensive tests with NO solution at another vet and never once did they look for what was causing this issue. The ladies in the front are kind, personable, and very knowledgeable. You feel instantly welcome and know they care about you and your pet. The vet we saw was friendly and gentle, (with all of us) and like I said above extremely thorough. Thank You!!!!! PS my dog LOVED your cookies....;-)

I started going taking my dogs to Dr Salendar and Dr Maarhuis when I first moved to Chilliwack 8 years ago. I have owned and bred American Bulldogs for just over 10 years now so a good relationship with my vet is very important to me. I can always get in when I need to and they have always offered to help with anything I need. They are very thorough with inspecting my puppies before they go to new homes, and implanting them correctly with microchips so they do not migrate. All my dogs have always enjoyed coming here and the puppies enjoy terrorizing the office. Also whenever I need any paperwork they get it to me promptly. We will still continue to go to this vet even though we moved to Abbotsford a few years ago :)

Dr.Mueller is an excellent veterinarian. My 18 year old cat had a Spindle Tumor the size of a tennis ball on her back. We saw another vet prior who was not confident in removing it. The lump kept growing & when I booked my first appt. With Dr.Mueller I thought my kitty was going to have to be put down due to the size of the lump. Dr.Mueller was 100% confident that she could safely remove the lump, she did & my cat had an amazing recovery. Dr.Mueller saved my cats life.

To start, the prices charged at Cottonwood Veterinary Clinic are often double that of most other establishments, yet the quality of care and attention doesn't warrant the extreme prices. The prices charged for flea medication alone are almost double what is charged at other vets. The staff up front do not properly communicate messages back and forth from Physician to customer and vice versa, which results in a lot of lost information, details being overlooked, and frustration. My dog was experiencing an allergic reaction affecting the snout, and the staff upfront tried to tell me that the vet was busy, and would be seeing my dog some time in the afternoon. I tried to explain that this was an issue of compromised airway, that although she looked mostly okay, it was an emergency, and that they needed to have it addressed right away. They wouldn't hear my concerns. They do not seem to be adequately trained in triaging cases, and seem to be afraid to ask their superiors. I don't know what is going on behind the scenes, and the responsibility certainly does not fall solely on the staff up front, but with the staff dynamic at present, and the skills demonstrated by the current staff up front, it is simply dangerous to bring your animals there, and definitely not cost effective. That said, I will note that once the doctor was apprised of the situation, he saw it for the potential risk it was, and rendered immediate intervention. The distressing part is that if the customer didn't know better, and the staff communicated the details to the physician as poorly as past incidents, this same scenario could have been very different, and possibly fatal. Additionally, errors take place that have had diagnostic implications which are hard to overlook. My dog had a lump removed from the lip, and the plan was to biopsy it. Unfortunately, another miscommunication resulted in it being discarded, and the diagnostic/prognostic information it could have provided was suddenly gone. My dog was also sent home with insufficient pain management following oral surgery, despite expressed concerns from me. Again, I was left to advocate for myself and my dog, and make a case against staff who I find ill-equipped to be having medical discussions. I should not have to convince the front staff of my case before I am able to have the doctor weigh in. There have been many occasions in which they have been a barrier to care, rather than facilitators. As a customer, you often get the feeling that tensions are running high between the staff, and I'm sure this contributes to the poor care, and the huge staff turn around as of recently. I have also seen the management (I believe the wife of Dr. Maarhuis) be very rude to the staff and customers alike, and make medical decisions with a business rationale - cost over care, so to speak. I don't mean to disparage Dr. Maarhuis; when I started going there 6 years ago, he was very knowledgeable, thorough, and simply the ideal vet. However, over the years, it seems that quality of care has been going down steadily. I do believe the communication issues I spoke of are significant contributors, and he must spend a fair amount of time putting out fires caused by the staff upfront, but as a leadership figure of the office, the buck stops there, and these issues need to be addressed. He needs to direct his care staff on how to provide adequate care, or clean house if they can't. Being overworked needs to be addressed, as well. Dr. Meuller was a fantastic addition to the team, but it seems the issues at this clinic run deep, and she wasn't willing to put her practice on the line by staying there, I suspect. (Take that with a grain of salt). While I stuck it out there for much longer than any of my friends who also had pets under their care, I can no longer justify keeping my business with them, especially now that they have lost most of the doctors I trusted. With numerous stories similar to my own, these issues seem to have become the business model, rather than issues that they are actively trying to correct.

She said it could be ordered but would not be sure if it would be in before I was going on vacation . Once in with Tim, he takes the time to complete a thorough examination of your pet, all the while showing true caring and compassion. He doesn't conduct unnecessary tests, but rather determines the problem quickly and with minimal stress on both your pet and your wallet. And when the inevitable time comes for your animal to be put down, either at his office or at your home, he does this difficult task with warmth and compassion. All in all, a first rate vet with a first rate practice.

Don't bother making any appointments here. They can't figure out their system. Last 2 times I made an appointment the first one they didn't even schedule and the second one they canceled on me, luckily I called in to confirm my appointment because I hadn't heard from them to confirm it. Took my puppy in for antibiotics and they tell me he's fine to get his vaccines a few days later and then when I take him in they said I didn't have an appointment and said he couldn't be given all his vaccines because he was on antibiotics. So now they will charge another $75 visit fee just for the last shot. This place has gone down hill. I would not recommend them to anyone.

He is the only one that has seen my babies and now they are both 13. I made an appointment today for my senior baby girl and was told I was not able to go in with her???? First thing- I don’t know this vet - second my girl is 13 and has only ever seen Dr Marhuis - and third she doesn’t like going to there to begin with.... I would have appreciated the new Dr to call me to maybe introduce herself and ease me but instead the girl at the front counter called and said that the doctor (Dr McCallum was told she was the one in charge)was not comfortable me coming in with my dog Well that means I’m looking for a new Vetrinary.... Took my Pansy in to be checked because she had a bladder infection, got a good tip on how to minimize the reoccurance of her bladder troubles, also her teeth were checked and she needed a lot of work. Got an appointment a few days later and Pansy had 10 teeth extracted, she was very woozy the first night, but absolutely fine by the next afternoon. They are exceptional at what they do - and they care. He was nine years old and suffered from arthritis. The arthritis had settled in his spine and so, all to soon I had to make the sad decision to euthanize him as he could no longer move and only cried ???? The folks at cottonwood were so helpful and compassionate!! They completely understood that he was my family! They even sent me a sympathy card ❤️ I was so impressed with their help that I brought them a gift of a forever flower! Also I was dog sitting and one of the dogs was attacked by another:-( they got her in right away and saved the day!!!

My wife and I are so lucky to have found Dr. Maarhuis and Cottonwood Veterinary Clinic, and can't recommend him highly enough. We moved to Chilliwack about 16 months ago, and took our pets to a few different vets as we settled into town. After we met Dr. Maarhuis about a year ago, we knew that we had found the best one. He takes the time to thoroughly explain potential causes of a pet's health issues, as well as the various treatment options, and does so in a way that is easy to understand. He is very patient, and we've never felt rushed during an examination. In addition, his prices are extremely reasonable, and his staff is friendly and helpful. Dr. Maarhuis is also a kind and compassionate person, and we appreciate the way he handled the diagnosis, care, and (ultimately) passing of our beloved cat back in March. It was extremely difficult for us, but he helped us to make an informed decision after the cat took a turn for the worse, and was very caring when it was time for us to put him to sleep. We have a dog as well, and are grateful for the excellent care he receives when he needs to go to the vet. We wouldn't take him to anyone other than Dr. Maarhuis and Cottonwood Veterinary Clinic. Five stars!

After dealing with cottonwood vet for years, I am starting to get the impression they just want our money. Long storey short. We are getting a puppy that is located 10-12 hour drive from us, we were notified that our puppy had a bit of an overbite and wanted to get the opinion of “our vet”. We sent in a photo (best we could do at the time) asking if they could tell us if it’s reason to be concerned. They responded by saying he would need to come in, or a phone consult witch she added I would be charged for. So they need to see the dog unless I pay, suddenly then I can get an answer over the phone? Keep in mind I have spent thousands of dollars in that office, and they can’t even take a two minute phone call without billing you. They seem to care about one thing and it ain’t the animals.

The dr is very good unfortunately you need to go through the reception to get to him my wife went to pick up a prescription and because she had no phone they wouldn't open the door to give her the prescription for our puppy and made her wait in the rain for at least ten minutes before getting off her lazy but to assist she was more interested in carrying on her conversation with the other front desk staff if you have rules about pickup procedures then customers should be informed in advance and a notice at minimum on the door

Cottonwood used to be great but as many have come to learn, that was mainly because of Dr. Mueller. Dr. Maarhuis has built himself a bit of a negative reputation in the community, for good reason. Dr. Mueller switched offices so we have now transferred vets to stay with her and after three weeks, Dr. Maarhuis still hasn't approved the transfer of our files. The fact that it is urgent and I need all the medical history of one of my animals to potentially spare him from more testing is of no importance to him. From the sounds of it, he has a literal stack of files waiting for transfer and he just can’t be bothered to deal with them (he has to sign off on them or the office won’t transfer them, which is an issue all on its own). I dont know if this is a time management issue or an issue with bad attitude and just straight up resenting the fact that people are leaving. Whatever it is, its pretty disappointing. I just want to possibly save my old cat from more stressful testing if I can and I’m sure there are others out there in a similar situation. I will add, too that when my cat had a urinalysis done with Dr. Maarhuis, he made a comment about how dilute the urine was. He didn't mention anything potentially negative and he mentioned it as a good thing. Well, my cat is in kidney failure, so his urine is dilute because his kidneys are not functioning correctly. I do want to make a point, however, that the receptionists are great. I cant even fathom the things that they must have to put up with and they still manage to be pleasant and understanding regardless. EDIT: I just want to thank Cottonwood for finally sending over the files. Its very much appreciated!

My little Sandy (Maltese/shitzu) had a problem with her eyes (probably because of air irritation) so I took her to Cottonwood Veterinary Clinic and through the vet. Doctor was given eye drops to put into her eyes in the morning and the night. And withing 3 days her eyes were back to white, the reddness was gone. I am thankful for that care.

Staff is very friendly . Doctor was friendly as well . I was a little agrivated as they said they made house calls as I'm disabled and had a large breed dog . They did not . Got my dog to them for his issuses , brought him home after surgery and he just did not seem right . Made calls to them , they just kept asking same questions and told me to bring him in . Explained continously its not that easy especially now he has staples . Last conversation with doctor was told not to feed him and if no improvement bring him in the morning . 9 days and 1200.00 later he did not last the night . DOES NOT MAKE HOUSE CALLS !!

We have been going to Cottonwood Vet Clinic for about 18 months and couldn’t be happier. Dr. Mueller is kind and compassionate. Our one dog hates getting his nails clipped ( as a lot do) , but Dr.Mueller managed to find a way to do it without causing him so much trauma. She’s is so wonderful. Dr. Maarhuis and the staff at Cottonwood Veterinary Clinic are not only some of the most dedicated and knowledgeable but they are friendly and helpful as well. We started going to them in January of 2014 with our rescue pup as she needed to have a couple things corrected with surgery - the big issue was the damage to her mouth. She was very nervous pup when we got her but she was ok with everyone there because they took their time with her and understood that she has come from a bad situation. The surgeries went well and she had a great recovery. The most impressive thing to us was the staff called us to check in on her - that is a rare thing. Our Ginger has been back to them quite a few times this year as we are still dealing with her issues but she is great with all of the staff and especially Dr. Maarhuis. He has been very thorough in helping our Ginger get over her health issues and explaining everything to us that we drive in from Maple Ridge just to be one of their patients. I would highly recommend Cottonwood Veterinary Clinic to anyone.

As we are recently new to the province, we didn't have a vet to take our dog to so when he got an aural hematoma, we searched the area and this clinic had great reviews so we took a chance. Moved to Chilliwack a few years ago, had a terrible experience at Sardis Vet so I transferred over to Cottonwood. At first I was really happy with the staff and how clean it was there, but as years have passed it seems to have gone downhill. Really poor communication between the front and back staff. I've had angry phone calls from reception asking where I am to pick up my pet when I wasn't even informed they were ready for pickup, I've asked for different food and medication on my order from one staff member and then when I go to pick up a different staff member is confused and has no idea what I'm talking about. I asked for Dr. Mueller to be our pets primary doctor (before she left) and yet all my appointments were scheduled with different vets constantly. Called for an emergency when my dog ingested something, the office was open but they said they couldn't help me because there wasn't even a vet in that day. What is the point of even being open then if there's no doctor around? The prices are quite high here compared to other clinics so it's frustrating to see the quality go down so much. The vets do an good job with my fussy cat, but they really need to work on the communication between the front and back and respect for customers time.

She hates strangers, yet the way the staff greeted her, my chi was happy, wagging her tail, & allowed the vet to do what was needed. Everyone at the clinic is professional, super friendly, helpful and very kind. I feel their rates are reasonable and I have always found that I can expect the results of x-rays, lab tests, etc. in a very timely manner. It has also been my experience that the Vet's take all the time you need to feel fully informed and as comfortable as possible with an explanation of a diagnosis, prognosis, or procedure. I cannot recommend Cottonwood Veterinary Clinic highly enough.

We've been going to Cottonwood Vet, and Dr. Tim Maarhuis in particular, for many years now. On occasion, we've seen Dr . Mueller as well and the care and compassion they both show for our animals is incredible. This goes not only for the vets, but for their entire staff as well. They have a great facility here, we're lucky to have found them, and I could not be happier with the care our animals receive.
