As you know, we do not usually stop to place tatings when they are positive and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or issue...

We had to rush our cat to a vet due to breathing emergency. Gateway Pet Hospital Was amazing and after calling nearly ten vets was the only one to take us in asap to check our baby out. Their staff is sweet and kind, and very straight forward and care so much for the animals and their owners. Amazing place!
We have quite a number of pets we take here and they are always very fair with us and with our pets. Nine of our pets are afraid of them which is great. One of my cats was so afraid of the last vet we took her to she peed herself on site of the vet office. Since we switched she is way more calm and has never had an incident since. Been with them for over a year with over 15 vet visits in total. Excellent vets.
Honestly some of the best vets around. Willing to work on pricing and are very helpful and friendly. They explain everything and have it all ready to go for you in a timely manner. Thank you Gateway for all your help in past and the future!
I brought my ragdoll kitten into gateway for her second round of vaccines. When the vet called me to let me know how Ivy’s appointment went she informed me that Ivy was nervous but as soon as the vet tech picked her up Ivy started purring and “melted into her arms” She then told me moving forward we might want to consider a calming medication to make her feel more comfortable which I thought was alarming to recommend for a kitten especially since we haven’t had her for long and she was still adjusting to her surroundings but also for a kitten who she said herself melted into the technicians arms, that’s not an overly nervous cat that needs calming medication in my opinion. I should have known by the sign on their front door boasting calming medication that they’d be the type of clinic that pushed for it. I decided against having Ivy’s final vaccines done at this clinic and I’m glad I did. Ivy just went for her final vaccine at a different clinic and was diagnosed with a heart murmur that gateway failed to mention or even diagnose at all.
Gateway Pet Hospital is simply amazing. From the day we brought our puppy home, he has had rare and mysterious health issues. Gateway Pet Hospital has worked tirelessly to provide him with the best medical care, tests, treatments and referrals. They have been available to us by phone and email at any time, are always happy to answer questions, to have us come in for visits even the same-day if needed, and take the time to genuinely speak to you in detail about your pet concerns without you feeling rushed. They have consistently gone above and beyond for us, it is really evident that they care about your pet. I HIGHLY recommend them and have been blown away by their level of service.
Best Pet Hospital in all of KW. I spent weeks researching vets all across kitchener/waterloo/cambridge/guelph and spoke with dozens on the phone before deciding upon a vet. I’m very picky with this because this is regarding the handling of my puppy. We arrived for our first appointment and spoke with Vanessa who is absolutely WONDERFUL! She was so sweet with my girl and absolutely adored her. Vanessa was very easy to talk to on the phone and made my visit smooth and easy. So many vets are against raw and will push you to get off of it but once they found out I feed raw there was no question about it, they just made sure proper supplements were being given. My pup saw Dr. Nina who is also absolutely AMAZING. She was very informative and answered any questions I had and friendly with my pup and took great care of her. All the staff are very sweet and welcoming, amazing amazing amazing service!!! If you are like me researching vets and looking for an amazing place to bring your pup definitely bring them here.
Unfortunately, one of my cats was very sick. He was 15 years old and had a malignant type of cancer. They respected our wishes and gave us the space I needed before saying our goodbyes. I am not going to lie. My heart is still broken with his departure and I still cry when I put 2 plates for dinner instead of 3. This clinic was so nice they sent us a condolences cards hand-signed by the entire staff. Even if they do it for everbody, this act shows the dedication they put for each client, each pet. That is also ao clear when you read the worst complaints. They know the name of your pet and refer to them by name, even when the pet owner themselves don't.
The staff at Gateway Pet Hospital were very professional and sympathetic when we had to get our guinea pig put to sleep. The staff were supportive and understanding of the emotional situation and made it not as difficult thanks to their care and demeanor. They went out of their way to take care of us and we are very grateful of it.
A very friendly place. They offer all services including house calls
My cat was attacked by another cat and needed surgery we took her to a different vet. When the stitches ripped on the weekend we brought her here. They were very nice and did a better job of stitching her up. I will take her and my other pets here. Reasonable prices.
My first praise goes to Dana, who is the groomer there. She did a great job with my cavalier and also my cavapoo puppy. They both got so much love and attention from the entire staff on top of a great grooming. They both smell great and are super soft! Dana is great at taking directions with what you want for your pup and the outcome is just perfect! Thanks Dana, for making their experience with you such a positive one! Second praise goes to the vet staff. I started coming to Gateway because when my dog had her puppies one of them was having difficulty breathing. My original vet turned me away in a time where I needed my vet more than ever… Gateway took us in right away and immediately went to work and did everything they could to try to save my pup. Unfortunately he ended up passing as he was only a few hours old, but dr Sarah and the whole staff were so kind and compassionate during one of the most tragic moments I’ve experienced. I switched to them immediately following the incident and have been very happy with their service ever since. Very thankful for everyone at Gateway and look forward to many years of continued service with them :)
Very kind people. They take the time to speak you about any concerns you may have regarding your pet with recommendations best for your pet. . They were so kind and compassionate when we had to put our 17 year old kitty down. We called on a Friday night and they took us as soon as they opened on Saturday. ???? I was so heart broken but the staff and the doctors were patient while we made our decision on what was best for Sundae. Thank you so very much! We really appreciate your kindness!
A+ service , very helpfully staff. They go out of their way to help. Reasonable prices as well. Definitely would recommend!
Everyone here is wonderful!!! We’ve been using Gateway as our vet for about 5 years or so and will continue to for as long as we have pets!
We've taken all our pets here and love it! This team makes visiting the vet a little bit more fun! Everyone is warm, welcoming, and knowledgeable. They answer all of our questions and treat our pets with care and love. We would definitely recommend Gateway Pet Hospital!
Gateway is simply the best. Staff always go out of their way to ensure high quality care and extra compassion. It's easy to build rapport with each team member and I know the veterinarians are genuinely focused on what's best for each of our pets. This group are more like extended family or friends to us!
What an amazing office! I can not say enough about Dr. Stephanie Thompson and her staff. I brought my two Golden girls here and I was overjoyed with the care they showed to them. Most impressed with the personal follow-up to ensure Becca was feeling better.
Let me start off by saying, this will be a long review with a timeline of what happened at this clinic. Now, I'm sure that this clinic has many beloved pawrents and fur babies. Though, in my heart - I believe I was manipulated. On July 17th, as I was doing my research for a vet clinic to have, my now 9.5 lb male shih tzu neutered - Gateway Pet Hospital had quoted me $300 +tax for neuter + IV fluids + post op meds. This is a very exceptional quote, as I know most places are charging much more. However, Gateway requires a Physical Examination, $99 +tax. Making this total, $400 +tax. I had explained to the Vet at the time, my puppy (6 months) just had all his shots up to date and does not require a physical. They pretty much forced me to do the Physical Examination as it was the only way for me to even schedule the neuter surgery, then charged me $112 on July 31st. On October 1st, I went in for a pre-surgical exam and was informed of an additional fee of "optional teeth extractions" $75 + tax per tooth (wowza). I agreed to that fee on the day of surgery, if it was needed. On October 13 (2 days before surgery), I was sent an e-mail quote of $439 +tax for neuter, IV fluids, post-op medications, tooth extractions ... + other optional procedures. Making the total anywhere between $657-995 total ... !!!!!! It is not always about the money. No. It's about the principle and owning up to a mistake that the clinic as a whole has made. I was manipulated into a physical examination $99 +tax in July (also note: there was no vaccines given, it was a 5 minute zoom call with the vet that stated "yes, you're right - he is healthy") ... when the surgery is scheduled for October and it should have been $50 +tax for a pre-op exam, NOT $99 +tax. So learn from my naive mistake. Do not trust any vet clinic that will charge in ahead of time for a pre surgery examination 3 months prior to the scheduled surgery date. Vet clinics can pretty much charge you anything they want without a written form or quote. This is a BIG loss for me, in trust and in dollars. Please choose carefully. Edited: a senior staff manager contacted me back and decided to grant the $300 neuter fee, additional fees still adding up to $500-800 grand total. I decided not to continue my dog's visitations at this clinic due to the broken trust and anxiety throughout this process. I am overwhelmed.
We had an urgent need for care and everyone at Gateway was so compassionate and understanding. The facilities were excellent as well.
Absolutely the best vet hospital that I have ever been to! The staff is unbelievable they have so much passion for their line of work! Thanks for everything !
I have been with the Gateway Animal Hospital for many years. The vets are very good at what they do. They are kind compassionate people. The staff are excellent in helping you to make sure everything is okay.
I recently had to put my puppy to sleep due to an unknown medical condition, after being turned away by multiple vets luckily we found Gateway Pet Hospital. I cannot recommend dr. Stephanie and her team more. They were so compassionate and made us their first priority and treated little norman with nothing but respect and love throughout the entire ordeal. Amazing staff in general, if youre ever in need of help this is the place to go.
Initially had a bad review for the clinic but have to give Dr. Stephanie a credit, she really does care about her patients. And I really appreciate all the efforts to bring my dog back to normal.
Gateway Pet Hospital have an amazing staff and are always extremely friendly and welcoming. I always feel as though our dog Fenway receives the best care when he goes there!
We've taken our dogs to gateway since they joined our family! The staff has always been wonderful and kind, the dogs love the extra attention they get and the treats... We never feel pressured to spend extra money on treatments .. And we appreciate that they respect our choices! We wouldn't take them anywhere else!
amazing care, service, and people that go out of their way - my pup loves coming here
Have always brought my pup here, my other family bring their dogs here as well! . The staff are amazing and patient. They are very informative and helpful. I have had terrible vets in my past , but this clinic goes above and beyond for the patients it has. Love it!
I was looking despritely for a Vet all day! They told me that they are booked and very busy. Therefore I called at least 10 other Animal Hospitals, with no luck and rude receptionists. So I called the "Gateway Animal Hospital" back and told …
They we not our regular vet but we urgently brought our pup there on a Sunday as our vet was closed. They took one look at her and referred us to the Animal University in Guelph as there was specialists there that hopefully could save her life. I was not billed for my millisecond visit. They followed up and had found out even with all our efforts we lost her. I received a sympathy card within a week...not only signed by everyone in the office but each person took the time to write a heartfelt note. I was truly touched. A week later we ended up buying another dog. We have brought him here for his care and are very happy with the quality of care & customer service. We are long time dog owners, I would recommend this vet hospital.
Great service. Very kind and friendly staff! edit - just had my third kitten fixed here! As always the staff were amazing. Called to checkup on him a few days after. ????
This office is fantastic. I can't say enough about every single staff member here. They truly love animals and their owners. There have been multiple times where they have proved their love of my pets that makes me know I'm getting the best care for them. They have such a hard job to do, and show their compassion for each pet individually. There are vets out there that would charge exorbitant amounts for every single thing, but their prices are fair - especially if your pet has to visit frequently! I would recommend this veterinarian office to anyone looking for one.
Great customer service, clean facility, and very nice Vets
Took the time to speak to me and ease any worries I had in regard to my cat's diet and flea treatment. Went out of their way to contact a pet food company to get an answer for a question about my cat's food. I've brought my cats here twice now and they treated them well and gave helpful, knowledgeable suggestions for different courses of action to treat my cat's ailments. Reasonably priced as far as vet visits go. Excellent customer service from a group of kind and compassionate people.
Took my 16 year old jack Russell in today and the staff are so friendly. Very pleasant experience and this was our 1st visit with our dog.
Although I was not a regular patient, Gateway Pet Hospital treated me like one! I was so worried about my kitty and they got her in right away after I explained the symptoms (She had a UTI). The staff were warm, welcoming, and professional. They explained the Covid19 procedures well and followed all social distancing guidelines. Dr. Nina was amazing! Explained the examination over the phone and quickly provided the results and medication. She has been wonderful and even called the next day to see how my kitty was doing. Overall, the best experience I have had at the vet!
We’ve been with you for many years with two different cats. One had to be put down and we received such warmth and compassion from dr. Nina. Our current cat has been in for a few checkups and always calms down with any of the vets treating him well. I always recommend your site for my friends with other animals!
Just moved here from GTA. My small dog had dental surgery (10+ teeth removed) last week :( Met with Dr. Nina exceptionally friendly, understanding and caring. She answered all our questions and concerns. Our pooch is our child and I was very skeptical about trying another vet. Our first vet is in Mississauga and very reputable. So I wasn't sure about a this place. My bf recommended it, because we take her to the groomers inside vet. Her teeth were time sensitive so I wanted to get her in immediately. They were very friendly and accommodating. We had an appointment right away and following week she was in for tests and dental surgery. They kept us updated during surgery process. We were nervous the entire day. Entire staff friendly, caring and most of all great customer service. I did tell Dr. Nina and receptionist upfront I was nervous coming to them and trying any new vet. Because our original vet is great and I want the best for my pooch (....who doesn't). Expectations were met and more. My bf and I agree they are very good. We didn't give 5/5 just because we just started with them. But if they remain like this I wouldn't hesitate giving 5/5. Another good point they are reasonably priced, which was another one of our concerns. Great customer service, caring about your pets and reasonable prices my top 3 priorities were met. Thank you, to all the staff who worked on our dog! We are confident they will take care of their clients. Keep up the great work. ****Update pooch ended up with infection few days after surgery and the receptionist took us in the same day I called. EXCEPTIONAL CUSTOMER SERVICE!!
We were in this clinic for a few years and have had incredible experiences. Doctors, Technicians , receptionists and the whole staff are friendly, knowledgeable, caring and compassionate! Unfortunately we moved to another city and we miss this place. Even when we left we called them because we had an emergency and we didn’t know what to do. They helped us and advised us what to do. They are THE BEST!! Thanks to all the staff specially Dr. Niña, Dr Stephanie, Alicia and Sasha.
Very caring staff. They were extremely helpful, informative and compassionate when our handsome loving boy Tux was diagnosed with DCM and we learned it would be terminal. They would call for no reason just to check up on him and see how we were doing. When we did lose him to this disease, again they called multiple times to check on how my family was doing and always ended the call with "If there is anything we can help you with please feel free to call". My ending comment is please if your dog is on a grain-free diet talk to your vet about dietary DCM (dialated cardiomyopathy) and consider changing to a food with grain until the vet community figures out what is happening and why!
I only picked one star because I had too, I would not even give gateway a star at all. They are money driven and overuse the sedation so they don’t really have to deal with your pet. Every time I called to ask any questions no one knew what …
We were very impressed with the attention given to our newest member of the family, Gus. Despite our current health crisis, Gateway was able to provide the quality of care we'd expect. Each stage of this appointment, from the initial call right through to the final "pass off" of Gus, was handled with genuine importance. Thank you very much. We look forward to many years of great care for our Gus!
Gateway's staff are very knowledgable and seem to really care about the pets' health. They also do a great job providing me with information on dogs' diet, which is an essential part to their wellbeing.
Such a terrible experience. Don't bring your pets here. They tried to remove our dog's eyeballs. My husband asked for other options and they kept pushing it. They even called two days later to push again. They seem much more interested in making as much money off every animal as possible rather than servicing the medical needs of the pets. We got a second opinion from a vet who said that was terrible advice. I wouldn't trust these people. And I find your response to my review even more interesting. I have never personally interacted with you and yet you're claiming I have been verbally abusive? My husband brought our dog in and took your calls so wow, not only are you highly unethical in prescribing treatment options but you're also lying about me 'verbally abusing' your staff? I hope you realize by posting this false accusation online, this is libel.
This team of vets is money driven, they do not care about the animals well being. They took my cat from sick to almost dead... They put so many cathaters in that it caused so much scare tissue that we almost had no hope. All I have to …
I can't express how grateful I am to the entire staff at Gateway Pet Hospital. They are compassionate and caring with all of my pets! Keep up the great work!
Had to take my pug here to be put down. I got great service. They jumped at putting him at ease. Gave us as much time as we needed to spend with him. Explained everything that was going to happen. Were kind, gentle and compassionate. We chose to have him cremated. Were told that we wouldn’t get the ashes back for 3-4 weeks. We received them back in 4 business days. I thought we paid a fair price. Would recommend.
Dr. Stephanie and RVT Krissie were absolutely wonderful / phenomenal when we had went in to get our very sick cat put down today. Very sad and upsetting time for us but these ladies were compassionate, sweet, accomodating and kind to us …
The whole animal care team at Gateway pet hospital is incredible. They are very accommodating, provide high quality care and most importantly, they seem to genuinely care about my dog! I have called in concerns a couple times and instead of …
We would like to thank Gateway Pet Hospital, and especially Dr. Stephanie, for the care and compassion they showed our fur baby, Amigo, when helping him with a difficult injury. We highly recommend Gateway and Dr. Stephanie for the loving care of your pets.
Best VET's ever. They work as a team! My poor little cat was so sick, went to Gateway everyday for 5 days straight, the vets at Gateway got together to discuss, and figured out what was wrong. Within a week little Jazz was back to normal. This wonderful clinic is amazing, excellent vets, excellent staff excellent prices! If you have a pet this is the only place to go.
Great service, from the office people, vet techs to the vets themselves. Very smooth, easy visit, even with covid19 procedures in place. I didn’t feel rushed at all talking to the vet and felt all my questions were answered.
Great people, easy to deal with. I feel comfortable when Im there...
We would like to thank everyone at gateway for there kindness and loving care that was given to Rocky P for years. A special thanks to Dr Barb for being there for us whenever needed. You are the best!!!! Greatest veterinarians ever for your babies!!!! Thanks so much T & W
They are friendly and caring, I highly recommend Gateway Pet Hospital
Amazing experience here. Spent about a year looking for a vet I trusted until I came across Dr. Thompson. She had every answer for me when other vets had no idea. AND just to be sure, she even contacted a specialist and got back to me the very next day. My cat was not restrained, and treated very well. The whole experience was as comfortable as possible for my cat and therefore myself. The clinic is very clean and welcoming. All staff were great! I highly recommend this clinic.
Our dog had a cyst on her head and we elected to get it removed. I was very nervous about the procedure because my dog is essentially my kid. We wanted an experienced vet to do the procedure and my friend recommended this clinic. They did a fantastic job on her surgery. I honestly could not be happier. The scar is very minimal and now we don’t have to worry about the cyst rupturing. We were so impressed we continue to take our dog here even though we live in Toronto! All of the vets are very caring and knowledgeable and the front staff are great too. Take your pets here!
Twice now my dog has needed help and Gateway has refused. I recommended this vet clinic to others but never again.
The staff at Gateway Pet Hospital are compassionate, caring and nonjudgmental. They cared affectionately for our dog Peanut up until the end of her life. Thank you to Dr. Nina and the amazing staff for your kind, compassionate, empathetic and professional care. It was gratefully appreciated.
Very respectful.
Staff very gentle and patience, felt welcoming and gave me many useful information. Would definitely continue to visit gateway and refer to friends and family
Thank you to Nina and the amazing staff for all the help with Jersey. Highly recommend bringing your pet to Gateway. ❤️
Gateway Pet Animal Hospital has been a pleasure to go to for all my animals needs. The service is kind and compassionate and very thoughtful. All the staff are friendly and helpful. You have a question or a need they will help you out. Your pet is treated as if they are their own!
They were very kind and sypportive when our cat was sick and had to be euthanized.
Very reasonably priced. Totally professional being careful to explain all options yet not try to upsell anything. On the contrary. Very compassionate, which we sadly recently experienced with the sudden death of one of our dogs. I can't recommend them enough.
We have taken our dog and cats here for a few years now. Amazing staff and veterinarians. All are very compassionate and thorough.
The veterinarian took my puppy’s neck and holded it really tight against her chest so he couldn’t move. for two minutes straight while he was yelping. she said it was to make her the boss, but there’s much better ways to do that that hurting my little 2 months old puppy. Not going back here again. ????
Everything I have been dealing with gateway for the past 14+ years and wouldn't think about going anywhere else the care my cats received was top notch especially with lucky who had diabetes
You have been the best vet clinic we have ever worked with. So kind, and supportive. And tbh I feel a very good value for the cost of services offered. I was so thrilled I brought my mum and dad and their two dogs to Gateway.
It's possible that I've had the most medically challenged dog ever - Skin issues and allergies, food sensitivity and Irritable Bowel Disease, most recently a partial tear requiring TPLO surgery and irregularities in his bloodwork. The team at Gateway have been exceptional since the beginning, offering agile solutions, kindness and compassion, and follow up every single time. At it's worst - we would hear from one of the Vets two or three times a week just to check in and make changes as needed. Like every other industry, covid has changed operations - things feel a bit different... but I feel very safe with their protocols, I feel that the quality of care has been unchanged, and I know the advise and recommendations are based on experience with the animals health first above all else.
This team is compassionate, friendly and knowledgeable. They are are caring and more importantly treat our dogs with love. They go beyond and I highly recommend them. We have been going to this vet for 5 years and have always had a great experience with them.
I can't say enough good things about this vet. All of the doctors and support staff are wonderful and incredibly calming and helpful. They are clear on prices and incredibly affordable in comparison to everywhere else. We had our little rescue dogs remaining teeth pulled and it cost us at least 3000 dollars less here than it would have anywhere else. They understand our dogs needs, and are so gentle with our little baby. They are clear on pricing, and don't try to up-sell. They've saved our little girls life and we can't thank them enough!
Excellent staff! My dog is happy to go there.
We had came in to put down our family cat. While we were in the room, the ladies at the receptionist desk were talking and LAUGHING. I found it so disrespectful, my mom and I were in the room bailing our eyes out and they were laughing, the audacity of these woman. I'm furious, they had no respect and were extremely unprofessional. I'm not impressed. Do not want to come back.
I am writing this review solely because I have given Gateway veterinary clinic the benefit of the doubt too many times. I was debating back and forth as to whether I wanted to write this review. Then I thought, would I want anyone looking for a vet for their animal to go to Gateway? And my answer is absolutely NOT. My dogs have had multiple appointments and issues throughout the two years we have spent at Gateway. This review will detail my biggest concerns with this clinic. 1. My small dog had TPLO surgery for a torn knee ligament. The surgeon they use comes in, does the surgery then leaves. I was not able to be in contact with the surgeon at all. No questions, no post op by the actual surgeon, nothing. Not ideal that this was my only choice for this surgery if I wanted to stay with this clinic. - After the surgery, we were told our dog was ready to be picked up. We were brought into the exam room and could hear her crying and whining from the back. We listened to her whine and cry for 15 minutes before someone came in and realized and said to us “oh we didn’t know you were here yet”. 2. We were called saying our dogs were due for their heartworm and flea tick medication. I purchase and pick up their medications to start in a few weeks. 5 days later I get a phone call- “oh your dogs are due for their heartworm test” WHICH you cannot give these meds on if they are heartworm positive. It really would have been nice to know BEFORE they let me buy them and pick them up. 3. Over the summer, our dogs got into a fight and one was injured. We called Gateway as soon as it happened, just over 30mins before their closing time. And they said “sorrrry, she has to go to the emergency vet”. Our dog didn’t even require stitches. Thankfully she was okay, but the emergency vet left us with a very hefty bill- and they are aware. 4. Our other dog has had multiple concerns with limping, and we ended up taking her to the emergency vet because Gateway wasn’t open, which is fine. They took X-rays, and said they would send them to Gateway. 24 hours rolls by and Gateway doesn’t call to follow up so I do. I get a “oh ya Dr. So and so looked at these Xrays today and thinks they need a second opinion ” (WELL THANKS FOR LETTING US KNOW?!) thankfully I am proactive for them and followed up myself. We never got follow up calls asking how our dog was feeling, nothing. 5. They have almost mixed up the dogs when bringing them in for blood tests. Not good. 6. (Most recent this week) We made an appointment at a new vet. Received a call from Gateway the next morning to confirm that we were switching over. I spoke with the practice manager and she asked why we were switching offices. I was caught off guard, and told her a few of these reasons but not in detail. I asked her to please send over all records for BOTH dogs. I said her appointment was on a Monday and if everything including her xrays could be sent over that would be great. I was told no problem they will be there. *appointment at new vet comes and goes, and we are told that no xrays were sent over and NOTHING for our other dog was sent over. 3 days later I have a missed call from Gateway and message. I call back and the message was saying, we got a request for transfer of records to another office? YES YOU DID, I ALREADY HAD THIS CONVERSATION WITH SOMEONE AND NOT EVERYTHING WAS EVEN SENT OVER! Fed up. Lack of communication, clearly poor record keeping. There have been other instances over the years but these stick out in my mind the most. Bottom line, Gateway has made us feel like they don’t care enough about our pets, made careless mistakes, and we don’t feel comfortable taking our dogs there anymore. I write this out of frustration but also for anyone that is currently looking for a vet, please continue to keep looking
