Very bad I lost my dog because them they are heartless people

Doga Gizem

Too expensive for literally nothing. we waited for being checked in outside in the cold for 30 min. after 15 min examination, I got a response that my dog has nothing and invoiced for $320.

Anastasia Uspenskaya

Thank you to the staff for being professional and supportive in the hard time for our family.

Justine Forbes

Took great care of my pup! ER clinics are so busy and understaffed during Covid and people can be so mean to them, but they are amazing and I am so thankful to have somewhere to bring my boy. More people need to learn a little gratitude. Everyone was so kind, the vet was amazing, and my boy is feeling so much better now!

The front desk attitude was very poor, unsympathetic and irresponsible. As the front desk of the emergency service, I told her that my cat vomited three times, had diarrhea three times, and could not walk anymore. I just stayed in the litter box and didn't come out. I tried to clean it three times and calm him. No effect. , The front desk even told me to wait until dawn to go to the original hospital, and she says this is not fatal, so don’t come here. It was unreasonable that when I needed help, it was the front desk that turned me out.

I was dreading having to leave my cat for overnight care following a surgical complication with my vet. But the team put me at ease and let me know that she was being well cared for. I was welcomed to stay with her until I was ready to say goodnight and they were very clear that I could call for an update at any point through the night. They were empathetic yet clear in their diagnosis and report. I saw Dr. Schell who was great and so were the Techs on staff that night.

Rebecca Paulin

Fast and great service. Much appreciated service on the weekend!

Catherine

My cat died suddenly in my arms at night and I brought him to this clinic. The staff were SO compassionate and helpful. They didn't rush me in saying goodbye to my pet, and gave me options for cremation, etc. with no pressure. I could not have asked for better care. Thank you to the staff who were working that night .... you made all the difference in a situation that was very traumatic for me.

I've had my differences here, but had a productive caring conversation with the vet manager on-site. Ultimately these people do care, and put our dog first. My dog was cared for and hes better for it. Thank you for listening to my concerns.

Saved our new puppies life and did it with the utmost customer service and class. The entire team didn’t miss a beat and was so prompt and professional. Keep up the great work and thank you very, very much.

Phenomenal clinic. Our pup Kilo had recently been diagnosed with a rare disease, and needed overnight care to balance out some things in her system. Dropped her off last night at 8pm, and picked her up at 8pm today. They take serious pride in getting pets back to their normal lives, and keep the owners in the loop along the way. Can't recommend this clinic enough. Thank you everyone at EVC for everything that you did during our dogs stay.

Lisa Perry

Our dog seems to only get sick on holidays and evenings! The Emergency Vet Clinic team is so friendly and knowledgeable. Thank you for care and advice.

Kirby Deflated

Amazing and friendly vet and secretary. Went at midnight for my dog and they were pleasant and helped us. There was a bit of a wait because they were behind. Its first come first serve unless there is an emergency. Its pricey but the availability of the services and the atmosphere pretty much make it worth it.

Gillian Beilschmidt

I haven't had need of their services yet and hopefully won't, but I'm very thankful that the receptionist I spoke to was calm and kind and explained how to keep an eye on my cat for a day or two when I called tonight about some concerning bleeding. The vet I went to a few years ago was really money hungry and kept insisting and immediately pushed me to get all sorts of tests and treatments even when I said no repeatedly, and didn't even need in the end after I went with the most reasonable and logical treatment option for the skin issue. The fact that right off the bat this vet is more concerned about my lil furry companion and I and not doing the same as the other guy was very reassuring and impressive! I'll definitely be keeping a close eye on my cat and will follow up and come in if anything changes for the worse (I really hope not though, even though the lady was really nice!)

When your pet is in distress and you have no idea how to address, the Emergency Veterinary Clinic of Waterloo really came through. We were in from out of town and our puppy was in real distress. Every member of the staff was courteous, respectful and helpful. I walked in with a case the that a challenge for the vet staff, but we worked through it together. Within a matter of hours, I went from a stress doggie owner to someone that had a plan of attack. It was a tense night, but the staff got us all through it and we got a healthy dog back the following morning. A huge satisfaction for me.

We lost our 12 year old baby Sadie, pug this past weekend and all of the staff here was great. We had multiple visits and we were advised of pricing upfront. When things went downhill rapidly for our Sadie, we were called immediately and were able to be with her in her final moments. Upon our arrival for our final moments, so much care and attention was being provided to Sadie. We're so thankful for the care and compassion provided.

Jake Bradley

Just a question. My cats were fixed Wednesday and my one cat is struggling to navigate around the house his head is constantly down low and dragging his come and hes not really eating much. Hes losing weight and I hate seeing him like this and not walking much. And walks weird with his front paws. What can I do to help him not struggle the cone isn't too tight or too big

When my 2 year old German Shephard got a hematoma on his ear I took him here. The staff were exemplary. They informed me on what a hematoma was and gave me a step by step on what they were going to do. I felt comfortable giving them my dog and they gave me feed back throughout the process on how he was. If we have another emergency I will definitely be going back to them.

Allan Smith

Updated, in another emergency visit for another pet they were fantastic. ----- Old review I am sad that the person on reception's attitude makes it so I cannot justify a higher rating. On Aug 27th my cat got very sick while we were out of town. A friend of ours gathered him up and rushed "Dallas" to the closest vet. The reception grilled my friend about who he was and payment. I understand they need to ensure treatment can be paid for but some compassion should have been extended or call us? When we arrived Dr Wagner was terrific but when we had to deal with the receptionist again she argued with us about some issues. Geeze we had just decided to put him down! We had cash with us so the money was a non issue. And the cost seemed reasonable. I just think our regular vet in Rockwood would have handled this differently.

Kim Kenny

Called them because our puggle got into the sugar. Receptionist was very kind and checked with the vet right away. Thank you for easing our minds. Will be more diligent with keeping the sugar off the cupboard from now on. ???? Happy to say Oscar will be fine ????

Ryan Aurora

Thank you guys for all your help with treating Niko. Even though we had to put him down, it was more reassuring knowing that you guys did the best you could and tried to help us out in the best ways you can. I cant thank you enough and I'm forever grateful knowing that he passed peacefully and was taken care of in the best ways possible.

Full stars to all the staff of the Emerg Vet Clinic here. We said goodbye to our 14 year old Remmington yesterday. We were immensely comforted by the professionalism displayed by the staff. It's a terrible time when you have to say so long to a cherished family pet. We feel grateful for the assistance of the staff in making a difficult process feel smooth and natural. Thank you so much! We appreciate you!

Stuart Hurst

Felt the need to take our dog here twice in the last few years and had a great experience both times. The vet was thorough, patient, conscientious and attentive. Advise given was sound, helpful and had costs avoidance as part of that advice. This will be the first place we call if the need for emergency veterinarian services arises.

This vet did a good job of seeing my dog, however, the receptionist turned me away and told me to come back in the morning. I had to get second opinions and couldn't trust the staff at this location. My 4-month-old puppy was vomiting multiple times, had diarrhea, wouldn't drink water, vomited every time she ate, was extremely lethargic and symptoms were getting worse over a 16 hour period. I went to this clinic at 10 pm and they told me it hasn't even been a day, go back home and come back tomorrow if it's ongoing. I went home and felt so uneasy and read some reviews on here of people being turned away and their pets dying. So I called the only other vet open in Waterloo and they said to go back there NOW. They told me this is an emergency and I need to stay there until the emergency clinic sees my dog. I packed back up and called the clinic before I left my house. I was speaking with a different person than the first time and she seemed confused when I said I was turned away. This person was totally encouraging us to come back. When I arrived and called to say we were here, it was the first receptionist again and the conversation was extremely short and she sounded unimpressed that we were back. The vet herself did a great job explaining what was going on and offering us options based on what we can afford and what she recommends. She was very good at her job. Unfortunately, the supporting staff was not good at all and put my puppy at risk by telling us to come back.

I had too take my cat Bellamy here last night April 18th around midnight, I got home from work and seen Bellamy was not his normal self, I just kept an eye on him over the course of 3 hrs, he had puked twice during that time and seemed too get worse as the night went on, he has never hissed at me in his whole 3 yrs but he was hissing and growling at me so onto the emergency vets I go, first off the receptionist was so polite and caring, made you feel very comfortable, went into the exam room and met with a vet technician, she seemed kinda standoffish but I understood why, bellamy does not like anyone but me touch him, he gets very aggressive if they do, as soon as he seen her come in he growled at her and hissed, then the doc came in and he did the same, she explained everything in detail how they were going too examine him (with sedation) and what tests they were too perform and how much it would be, she had figured he had a blockage from my explanation of the events through that evening. Tests were all done and everything was normal, she could not understand why he was the way he was the previous hours, everyone that I dealt with there were very thorough and if I ever have an emergency again I will be taking my cats there, might cost a little more then normal but you cant put a price on your family member, I will pay anything too make sure they are well and happy, thanks so much for all you did and the care Bellamy received

Courtney Grande

Did not have a great experience here. Brought my dog here after he was stung by a bee and having an anaphylactic reaction (trouble breathing and hives). He was very upset and agitated snapping at me in the exam room-understandably so due to his stress. The vet was disgusted by my dog's distress and told me I should muzzle him (I have never muzzled him at by regular vet) i felt terrible he was upset and embarrassed at how he was acting as well as terrified for his allergy! The vet made me feel like a terrible dog owner and was not compassionate to the situation.

Kasondra C

Honestly if I could give 0 stars I would. We brought our cat in who had stopped eating, the vet that checked on him told us he's probably not going to make it and it's likely he has FIP (a fatal disease). She TOLD us that we are to have him stay the night and that everything would cost 1000 dollars and to sign immediately. They didn't give us any other options and we felt trapped.... We ended up taking him to our Vet when they opened and they were able to save his life (liver failure, not FIP). In the end he's now happy, healthy and his only flaw is his asthma. Thank you for making us pay 1000 dollars and making us believe we were going to lose our friend with your poor judgment. Please do NOT come here! You're going to pay a ton of money for a false assessment!!

Britt Heighton

Took my kitten in and the vet completely misdiagnosed his condition, told me he was dying. Took him to my own family vet the following morning said he just had a little bit of a fever and prescribed the right medications. Will not be returning in the future.dont not recommend.

Kirstie T

The vet we saw was honest, upfront and supported us in making the best decision for our dog. The support staff were kind and patient and the receptionist was extremely compassionate.

Marley Inksetter

Look, I get that this is an extremely stressful job and I get how busy they are. This weekend my constipated kitten relapsed, was lethargic, puking, straining in the litter box and producing nothing but blood. When I called to see if I'd be able to bring him in, the person on the phone was so clearly annoyed that I would dare to use their establishment and was so unbelievably rude, condescending, and clearly trying to get me not to bother that I took him to the emergency vet in Guelph. They were busy, too! And yet they were kind and willing to help my kitten. Imagine that. They saved his life this weekend, and many others. On another occasion, I came here because my cat was having trouble having her kittens. When one had a cleft palate, they told me not to bother, he would die. They refused to show me how to care for him. Fortunately, the next day, the Animal Hospital of Cambridge did show me, and that kitten is now 5 years old. I give three stars because one time they helped my dog and I do understand that it's difficult to be nice to people when you're busy and stressed. At the same time, difficult doesn't mean don't try.

onkei ccc

They did not solve the problem, are they can do is guess why my cat was vomiting, they checked everything blood test, poo test, X-ray, but they did not the reason why my cat was vomiting. ???????? And what they told me is about let him eat first???

Andrew Jacob

Great clinic for after-hours care. Dr. Anderson and Dr. Wagner have been great. X-rays are more expensive than at your regular vet, but the vets are up front about that and seem to recommend only what is necessary at the time. My only suggestion is to bring a book. When the waits can be long and the consultations and administrative things are all done over the phone, you’ve got to be mindful of your phone battery life.

Amber Passalidis

To be honest, I was nervous because the reviews were not so high. The staff were all lovely and respectful. I unfortunately had to put my poor little senior down and everyone was very kind and respectful, checking in on us and giving me time alone with him during the process. They did not rush me or make me feel like they needed the room. Everyone put me at ease with a decision I did not want to make. The vet gave me all the options and was 100% honest about my pets condition but in the gentlest and most sincere way. I appreciate all they did to help me through one of the worst evenings of my life.

Sabrina Romeo

Honestly can't complain, staff is really friendly, and they don't try to upsell you on anything. They give their honest option on what best for your pet. Thank you very much!

A Bender

Highly recommended. Took our 15 year old dog there for seizures. They were thorough, professional and understanding. All possible options and their relative costs were discussed, and when I asked about a different option, they didn't hesitate to accept it. They charge a little more than our regular vet, but it's understandable since they need to staff the clinic 7 × 24. Nothing but compliments to all the staff!

Megan Campbell

During this covid-19 time it' is stressful to have to go anywhere, and made worse when your pet is ill. We had a great experience taking our dog here. We had to wait a little bit, but when we did get in the staff were very clear about the new procedures, helpful and took good care of our dog. I hope we never have to come back, but if we do-- we know we are in good hands!! Thank you guys again :)

I took my dog here on a holiday when no other vets were open and I can confidentially say that I will never take him there again. I know some people have had good experiences and I’m not sure if those with negative experiences have been a specific vet at the clinic. Unfortunately, we had a terrible experience which could have resulted in my dog passing away. When I brought him to the vet, I had mentioned that he wasn’t eating or drinking. He was whining, vomiting and had blood in his stool. All extremely concerning things that any vet should identify as cause for concern. I was worried he may have gotten into something. When I brought him in they gave him an x-ray and told me there was nothing inside of him. When I asked about the blood I was told I wouldn’t know unless I did blood work and that he seems fine. They then sent me home with medication and their food (although he wasn’t eating). That night, after being sent home quickly from the vet, his symptoms worsening. I took him to my vet the next day where they were extremely concerned with how he was looking and behaving. They checked the X-ray from the emergency vet and notified me that it was extremely blurry and they couldn’t even see it properly so they took another X-ray. Despite paying hundreds of dollars at the emergency vet for an x-ray they couldn’t even ensure it wasn’t blurry? When my vet did the X-ray they found that indeed, he did have something lodged in his intestines. If you aren’t aware, a complete obstruction in a dogs digestive tract can kill them within days. With how severe his symptoms were he was going to need emergency surgery otherwise he would have died shortly after. If I had listened to the vet at this emergency clinic and decided that he was doing okay and that there was nothing there, my dog would have been dead. Although the people at the vet were nice. They barely saw him or looked at him. They couldn’t even thoroughly take an X-ray and examine him. It felt like a money grab after paying hundreds of dollars for no support and feeling like we weren’t being listened to. I’m incredibly grateful for my vet and for the fact that my dog is here with us today. But there is no question in my mind, that if I had listened to what the vet at this emergency clinic had said, he would not be here today. If you need to go to a vet, I highly recommend looking at your options and avoiding this one at all costs.

I had to take my poor cat Mr. Tangles here on Sunday and everyone was SO compassionate and let me have time with him before he passed away. They didnt rush me, explained everything to me, and made me feel as comfortable as possible in such a horrible situation and for that I will always be grateful. Thank you so much. Holly

I had to bring my cat in tonight because I was 90% sure he had just eaten a large plush toy of his, which I was worried would cause an obstruction. The receptionist was very helpful with guiding me on how to be seen and was calm and kind. When I got there they saw me as soon as they could which was soon enough to get my cat to vomit up his dang toy. Thank you Dr.Martens and RVT Lexi and any other staff who were involved. Because of your speedy and efficient care I was able to avoid a foreign body surgery on my cat. My cat is home and you wouldn't even know I had just rushed him to the clinic to induce vomiting. He is so comfortable and happy so I know they treated him with great care. Thank you team!!!!

I WILL NEVER TAKE AN ANIMAL HERE AGAIN AND THIS IS WHY my cat has diabetes, she got very sick so we rushed her here. the vet told us to put her down. when talking to our actual vet the next day she informed my family that diabetic cats are prone to infection and gave her antibiotics, now my cat is doing amazing and this vet clinic had absolutely nothing to do with her getting better, in fact they just wanted our money and tried to charge us for random procedures that would have just put our cat through misery. look at how amazing she is doing now

Adam Wood

Our Newfoundland dog ended up with symptoms of bloat and we were advised to rush her to the emergency clinic this evening. Staff were compassionate, professional, and excellent at their jobs. Our pup was seen immediately and offered a thorough plan of care. We are so thankful for this wonderful clinic and the kind, caring, and competent professionals who work inside its walls. Thank you for helping our girl through a harrowing experience tonight.

Jesse Walker

The nurse was OK. The vet just tries to scare you into paying as much as possible up front right now even if you tell them you have a vet she even swore at me and told me to get up when I was trying to explain that we would like to see our regular vet

Nicole Duxbury

I am so thankful and happy that this place has such amazing talent and well trained vets; especially Dr Schell. My dog ate alot of sugarless gum. She came in unresponsive and had swelling of the brain. The vets and vet techs worked so hard and were so compassionate during such a stressful I am lost for words to even explain how thankful I am for the dr and her team. Today my dog is happy and alive! She was honest about everything and was very thorough about all of my options and price ranges. I have no complaints about the care or prices that were given. I wish I could say more but it was simply amazing. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

Alexis

Dr. Schell saved my dog’s life after he chewed an inhaler. She was so kind and updated us on his progress. We are so grateful! A note for those reading: you do have to be patient with EVCs. They are busy and there will be wait times, much like in a human ER. They care about your pet and are doing the best they can - it’s not an easy job.

Matt Ziegler (Ziggy)

They saved my cat Mortys life. I couldnt afford xrays and even got some pro bono bc they wanted to make sure my little buddy was okay. Very kind people and great service. Dont risk your pets lives in an emergency!

August 10, 2017 we had to say goodbye to our special little guy Zombie. The receptionist was very kind and the doctor was so sweet with us. She explained everything that was going to happen and allowed us to take all the time we needed with our baby before we had to say goodbye. Tonight I popped in to pick up Zombie's paw print and that receptionist was also so kind. I started crying and she gave me a hug and comforted me. There is a lot of love here. I thank everyone for being so kind during this difficult time.

We have an 11 week old puppy who was really crying and vomiting. When I called for advice on what to do the person I spoke to was wonderful. She gave me the information I needed to help us when we were really in a panic. I am so grateful for the help and guidance. We did not have to bring the puppy in for care - but we received excellent care by phone.

My family and I are very appreciative of the compassion and humility shown to us last week. We had to unfortunately lay our 11 year old pup to rest. The doctor and staff were professional and gracious... it was a peaceful and loving passing- despite some modifications due to COVID. We left feeling as though our boy passed with dignity and love. Thank you so much.

Long read: I wish I read the reviews before coming here. I had to bring my cat in for strange behavior and he was having difficulty eating or peeing. I was shamed for not being able to afford the $1000+ bill for all the tests they wanted to run (1 week before christmas) and was only able to do the one test they suggested. With the antibiotics and medicine for him it still cost me over $600. I was also told to consider rehoming my cat if I could not maintain his quality of life while crying on the phone from the car asking if he would be better off being put to sleep at this point (as I only want the best for my pet). Because lots of people want to take in a sick senior cat right? I was also told "well you know it's not like he was manufactured in a factory like a car or you can't guarantee you'll live to 80 either" when I asked if the 6 different prescriptions will certainly help. The doctor won't even meet with you, during my 4.5 hour wait I spent the entire time in the car waiting for calls back and forth from the doctor instead of being able to see my cat or speak to the doctor in person. Every interaction was disappointing and they make away like criminals.

Tim Kala Adams

We were sent here from our vet with our very sick dog. We received amazing care. We were explained so much. He was there for 48 hours and I called multiple times to check in on him and I was always greeted with kindness. I thought I may start to annoy them but they never showed that. The vets were all fabulous and understanding. We are glad we ended up there and if ever (I hope it doesn't happen) we have to do an emergency clinic again we will definitely be back and would also send family and friends there.

Heather Szücs

CROOKS! Had to bring our dog here at 4:30 in the morning because she stepped on glass. My bf was clear that we only had $500 to our name and they said anything more could be paid at a later date. But that was not the case! We are both on EI due to this virus so money is very tight and they took that $500 plus we had to borrow money for the remainder. Now we don't have money to even feed ourselves. How do you people sleep at night? In the middle of a crisis and they would not help out at all. You should be ashamed of yourselves!

Ryan Davis

Dr. Suderman is a amazing loving vet she saved my cat Steve and she was there when he had some complications and I can't thank her and the staff enough!

Elizabeth White

Jackie the Receptionist was great. They took our kitty in quickly as he was having breathing problems. Thought they would at least follow up with a call the next day(s), to see how he was doing.

I called here recently when my dog started yelping, and seemed to be in extreme discomfort on and off. I explained the syptoms, etc. & the staff member -I believe Shawna - advised me that perhaps I should wait, and observe him for a bit. She said that it was likely he stepped on something or pulled a muscle. We waited, and he was just fine a few hours later. Thank you for not being a money hungry place. I was stressed out and you could have made me feel obligated to come in, and make at least $99 off of me, but you didn't. Thanks!

I'm not really sure why there are so many negative reviews .. I've spoken to 3 receptionists and 2 doctors during the course of my cats emergency visit (he had to stay for 2 nights). Everyone one has been nothing but friendly and kind, though sometimes a little busy. The doctor today spent 15 minutes going into detailed explanation of my cats condition and steps moving forward. He recieved prompt treatment and seems to be in good hands. Though the cost is INSANE and if you can't pay the 75% upfront they won't treat your animal, which for low income people could mean no help.

As I was in a panic, I took my puppy to the Emergency Vet Clinic and was very happy with my experience. They were very understanding and patient, and I felt as though my dog was very well cared for. The Vet was very thorough with informing me of and explaining all our options. I really appreciate their help, and would recommend with any animal emergency!

Jaclyn Swartzentruber

Thank you so much for taking such great care of Archie on Wednesday over night, he is our entire world and Connor and I could tell that you all take such great care of the animals there. Thank you for making Archie feel right at home and being so kind to Connor and I.

Well, isn't this place magical? After waking up to a dog in extreme discomfort this morning, who was also having difficulty walking without crying, I decided not to wait until my vet opened at 8:00 and set out on the torturous journey from West Galt. Y’now that little thing that gnaws away at you saying that if something bad happens to my dog, I don’t want it to be because I waited that extra hour; I had that going on. Like a good, obedient Canadian I filled out the online form as instructed, on their website and headed off. When I arrived, again, as instructed, I called to announce our presence. I was met with the equivalent of a blank stare and the line, "Oh, actually, were closed." I asked the woman what she meant; they didn't close until 8:00? They were busy doing out-take she told me; usually people phone ahead, she continued. I told her the website instructed me to fill out an online form and call when I arrived (I assume because it's more efficient and less time-consuming than a phone call.) They don't check their email when they're busy, she shared. (How do they answer their phone when they're busy, then?) "How would I know you're busy", I asked. "Most people phone", she told me in a tone that suggested I had missed it the first time it went by. So, I'm here at an emergency clinic with a sick dog a full half hour before they close and they can't see him, not because they're busy seeing other patients, but because they're busy discharging them. The good news was, she told me, my own vet opened in a half hour so I could take him there. If I thought he could wait I would not have made the 40 minute round-trip to this clinic. I would later return to their website to see if I had missed something. I had not; other than the fact that they are open 24/7 according to their main page and do not close at 8:00. I took him to Cambridge Animal Hospital which was the closest geographically; they brought him in right away and were nothing short of awesome. Given the incompetence displayed at the emerg clinic, I am now, in hindsight, happy that no one there touched my dog. Terrible way to run a business that focuses on the wellness of animals.

Tracey Maltby

Thank you to Dr. Johana Wagner and team for taking such great care and time with our Tnook. She has recovered completely but we are still keeping things quiet for another week or so.

Lisa Woolcox

Called and the receptionist was very standoffish and when I asked for probiotic product, she quickly stated they don’t carry it and ended the call. For an emergency clinic, it’s disappoitning they wouldn’t ask follow up questions to see what else they could do.

S M

Had to take my cat in 2 days running. I was very disappointed in the vet care the first day. The vet decided that my cat had eaten something and was blocked, she fixated on that answer and wouldn't listen to me when I said I was sure she had not ingested anything. The only treatment option she offered me was radiographs to locate an nonexistent blockage and since I wasn't willing to spend 300 dollars on a test I knew was going to be negative I had to take my cat home with just anti nausea meds and some subcutaneous fluids, which including the emergency visit was still 300 dollars. She continued to be ill and I had to take her back the next day, the second vet did blood tests which found a dangerously low WBC count. She had to spend the night at the clinic to the tune if more than 1000 dollars. I can't help but wonder if this might have been caught earlier and cost me a lot less money if the first vet had been less fixated on her diagnosis of a foreign body ingestion and listened to her customer.

Liz MacKenzie

Our aging cat needed veterinary attention after hours and Dr. martens was great. She spoke to us about the options and possibilities. Was very practical and methodical in her approach to figuring out what was wrong. She was caring and compassionate , patiently answering our questions and listening to our concerns. All the team was very friendly and helpful. Thank you!

Amber Jones

Have never actually been to this vet clinic, but the customer service over the phone was beyond amazing! I was in distress about my dog who had just swallowed a splintered rib bone and after hearing from another clinic how he would need all these x-rays and tests 'or else', I called this clinic for a second opinion. The secretary was extremely calm and helpful. She then went to ask the opinion of the tech, where she also came on the phone to talk through what had happened with me. She was calm, comforting, and thorough. I trusted her advice and expertise and my dog is ok! I never once felt like this clinic was out to get my money, but in fact, was actually interested in the best interest of the animal at hand. There aren't many vets out there like this one!

I have definite mixed feelings about our visit from this past weekend. We brought our Saint Bernard in over the weekend after the sudden onset of swollen lymphnodes (most noticeably in this neck). Front reception was very friendly and caring, as was a brief encounter with one of the vet techs. Unfortunately our experience with Dr. Wagner was not as warm. The vet tech had taken our dog from the room to "the back" where he was briefly examined by the vet. Once he was brought back we waited a short time before Dr. Wagner came into the room. At this point in time she entered the room and pretty much ran away from him, fearful that she was going to get slobber on her, having commented that she already got slobber on her pants and realized this after sitting down in the back after examining him. Throughout the visit (which lasted 2 hours), there were multiple times where she was obviously avoiding having to go near him solely out of not wanting to get slobber on her, and would say things like "what have you done to my floors," and "oh no! my floors." At one point in time I also asked her for a bowl of water for him, to which she paused, stared at us, and said "yeah....I think I can do that." Dr. Wagner provided us with a query diagnosis of lymphoma, but did not offer to do any blood tests until the very end of the visit, and said that they could not perform a thin needle aspiration biopsy, but that this could be done at our regular vet's office. Her recommendation was to get him to the OVC to be monitored and referred to oncology (a minimum of $3000-$4000). This wasn't an option for us so she left us with 2 options: 1) take him home on heavy sedation and monitor him 24/7 until we can get him into our regular vet on Monday, or 2) leave him there to be monitored for the next 36hrs until his regular vet appointment on Monday. With a fatal diagnosis and him not even being able to lay his head down to sleep due to such swollen lymphnodes, we asked if euthanizing him would be the best decision (because we certainly weren't comfortable monitoring at home, and didn't trust to leave him there either). She stated that it would be a "leap" and then only offered a 3rd option of sending him home on steroids, which, if it was lymphoma, would tremendously help his symptoms. Our concerns were these: 1) bedside manner. We were so extremely disappointed with how Dr. Wagner presented in front of us about our dog. She's an emergency veterinarian...she should be used to hair, drool, bodily fluids, etc. She should not appear to be disgusted by a drooling St. Bernard---and if she is, don't make it obvious. 2) we don't feel like we were given all available options until we mentioned euthanasia. I understand the hesitancy of prescribing steroids without having done any tests to confirm the diagnosis, but multiple times throughout the visit she was "almost certain" it was lymphoma. (Sending him home on steroids was the right thing! He's better!) All in all, we appreciate the years of expertise that Dr. Wagner has in order to come up with a diagnosis so quickly, (especially since we got confirmation this week from our regular vet that it is lymphoma), but we just wish the experience was better. It was hard to trust the diagnosis and recommendations based on rapport alone since no other tests were being done. I hope our experience is unique and was a one-off.

I pulled my dog from their care in an emergency overnight visit. Vet on staff not confident or competent. They examined my dog, but how I'm not sure. The vet that night claimed they don't have an ultrasound machine there, or a proper xray machine, or an operating room, and said all blood work is pulled there but is sent to Guelph for analysis (on full panel, not specific) returning the next day. So no blood work is done on site, no xray, no ultrasound, no operating room, but somehow I was to believe I needed to make a decision between Guelph University emergency surgery or euthanasia right then and there... 40 minutes I argued to have my dog returned to me. Funny, I went to another clinic (Oakville) where I was given an antibiotic and my dog is perfectly fine, fully recovered. Kinda makes you wonder what the hell goes on in there.

Frances van Dieren

Very much appreciate the honesty and directness of the vet we saw last night. We took her home to bring her to our regular vet this morning .

Lisa Bennett

Our puppy was peeing 20+ times a day and our vets office was closed, we decided to bring him to this clinic as we were very worried. We called ahead and were told to only bring a pee sample. Upon arrival the vet tested him for a UTI. We were told his results came back negative for a UTI but he was going to be put on antibiotics for a UTI anyways. His symptoms didn't improve so we made an appointment with our vet. Turns out he has round worm, giardia, and coccidia. Would have been great to find out earlier he had these as its affecting him so much. Upon looking as his stomach our vet said right away, he probably has worms lets run a fecal test. Do not waste your money here, and don't do your pet a disservice by putting them on unnecessary antibiotics.

Took us in before they even opened. My girl had a life threatening illness and they saw her promptly and they were very honest but friendly. They made a positive experience out of an otherwise horrendous time for me and my girl Quinn. And they were more affordable than a standard animal hospital! I would give this place 10 stars if I could. Keep doing what you're doing. Also Quinn is all better now! :)

We took our constipated cat there one evening and was told up front what the findings may be from best to worst case issues with constipation and the cost involved with each procedure. In the end she ended up needing moderate care and didn't charge for unnecessary tests/procedures. They care about the pets they treat. In an emergency I would use them again.

SYD DING

Very friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. They were very calming in an emergency situation with my dog. They do not over price like other emergency vets.

James Meyer

Fast, friendly, honest. So appreciated at 9pm on a Sunday evening with a cat who wouldn't move. Can't say enough good things about Dr. Wagner and crew.

Kathy Muir

I cannot say anything bad about the clinic. I am glad it is here when you cannot get to your own vet. Even during Covid 19 the experience was just fine. Would have definitely preferred to go in the building as I do not like handing my pets off to strangers but these are the times.

Joss Black

Only spoke with the receptionist and the lack of care for the animal and more concern for money was way to apparent. I never leave reveiws but I'm beyond disappointed with this hospital. I wouldn't take my dogs here if they were the last vet in town.

Rachel Young-Hunter

Tonight was such an anxious night. I brought my cat in around 11:30 with quite an emergency. Most of his tail had literally fallen off. There were some potential issues with a previous procedure elsewhere and right away the vet tech who saw us had suspected what the cause was. Both the tech we saw and the vet were incredibly knowledgeable, dedicated, compassionate, and were able to keep me calm in what was such a stressful situation. I had some fears about costs and they were beyond empathetic and helpful. I am so grateful for the team here! Buzz and I thank you so much.

macie peister

Our experience here was amazing. We came in over the holidays with an emergency and everyone from the receptionists to the vet techs and veterinarians were so helpful. The wait times were not bad at all however even if they were (which I've seen some people complaining about below) , it's no different than going to the hospital and having to wait in the waiting room there so we were expecting to wait. When we were leaving with medication we got all the information we needed to feel comfortable. As a bonus we could call anytime with questions or concerns and they were extremely helpful. Thank You guys so much for the exceptional service!

Kim Evans

We had to bring our sweet 15 1/2 year old Maggie in with a dislocated hip. It was an early morning call and the care and compassion shown is so appreciated. It was time to say goodbye and the staff and doctor were patient, kind and supportive helping that morning. In these stressful times we are thankful you were there for us.

Tracey at the front desk was so so very comforting and I never got to meet the vet but she was great over the phone (Covid. ) Ty ty for taking care of my Titan and my boys are gonna have a long Friday wink ???? Great great relief and a super service for us worrywarts

I took my cat to get checked. I suspected I would have to have her put down, they took my cat after 10 hours very stupid people work

I am now crying because I lost my dog tow weeks ago because they didn’t explain that she is in risk if I took her home. They did Xray for her and they find out she had pneumonia and she had next day an appointment with her regular vet but I brought her to the Emergency because I didn’t feel she is good, they said that they gave her the treatment that she needs until we can bring her to her vet next morning but next morning she gets worse .they didn't tell me she wouldn't live I took her back to them next early morning they told me no chance for her my dog’s name is Princess she is only one year and have I feel so bad for her because I brought her to this hospital they don’t care about the animals life ,only the money is the most important thing

Jennifer Wiles

Wonderful people that work here. Nothing but positive experiences. Happy to know that this clinic is open for when we need them. The kindness and compassion does not go unnoticed.

We have had pets for over fifty years and have been to many vets. Our experience at the above mentioned clinic was a nightmare. We brought our dog in around 4am, he was limp to carry, his tongue bluish and was having trouble breathing. I suspected he was bleeding internally as I had quickly googled these symptoms before rushing to the hospital. They took my dog for x-rays and kept him in the back for 30 minutes. I finally insisted on seeing him and he was obviously near death. I asked what the x-rays showed and they informed me because they didn't want to turn him, the x-rays where inclusiveness. I said I think he is bleeding out and the vet agreed with me. I asked that he be put down right away to avoid him suffering further. The vet said "that in his present state he isn't probably noticing much discomfort". Well I sure was having discomfort seeing my dog with his blue tongue dangling from his wide open mouth and gasps of breath coming ever farther apart. They proceeded to get the chemicals ready to put him down. That took another ten minutes. By the time they got back to him, his blood pressure was so low from loss of blood, his veins had collapsed and the technician poked him over and over and over and over to try to insert the needle to administer the chemicals. He passed before being put to sleep. How could this vet not recognize his near death state and horrific condition. My dog died naturally within an hour of getting there. They charged me 900 dollars for that ordeal. I reluctantly paid the bill that included group cremation and said I would call the next day if I changed my mind and wanted to pay the extra 300 for individual cremation. If I didn't call then they should proceed with group. They called me 5 days later to see if I wanted group cremation or pay extra for individual cremation. I was very annoyed, my dog had been in a cooler for almost a week. At that pointed I demanded a refund and only received it after writing a letter, sending emails stating that I was not going to wait for their next board meeting to render a refund decision and i threatened to go to the newspapers and picket out front on Maple Grove with my family. Realizing I was serious about picketing their business, they refunded my money within two days. I know others that have been very unhappy with beefed up bills for animals brought in near death. It was such a miserable experience I seriously walked out of the clinic in a daze. The area needs an alternative to that place for after hours treatment. Ideally a not for profit set up.

We had an amazing experience early this morning with Doctor Sabrina Marten and her Vet Tech. Did we wait about 3 hours at 1:00am? Yes we did. That said what matters to us is the care our dog Kumo receives. The staff were polite, professional, and they did not push for unnecessary treatment or testing. We spoke directly with Dr. Marten before and after our dog was seen. In the past at other clinics we have had to talk to a receptionist or Tech and we appreciate being able to communicate directly with the doctor. Our dog's condition seems to be improving and we will definitely return should we have any other emergencies.

If i could put no stars I would call with an emergence my dog got into some poison when talking to the lady on the phone she said come right in as soon as possible got there and was told that they don't deal with emergences till after 6 pm had to rush to another vet down the road witch of course rush hour traffic took alittle.needless to say are puppy will be ok got there in time but would not recommend unless it is dier straights and it is after 6

Gillian Nagy

The staff are knowledgeable, very helpful and friendly. My dog was in excellent hands. And the bill wasn't as high as I thought it was going to be.

Great clinic, the receptionist and the vet were very nice. We received some bad news about our dog and the vet was great. She explained everything and made sure we understood what was going on and what our options were. She was soft spoken and was very caring towards us and our dog. Would recommend this clinic ! Thanks to the staff at this clinic for making our experience as easy as possible.

Sunday our dog was bit by a dog not on leash and needed emerg stiches. Nothing life threatening but they said we should stich her up now rather than sit over night ( possible infection) rather than take to our vets next day. $650 dollars later and only "4" stiches required?. Yes they quote you first but what we gonna do with an injured dog, walk??. We appreciate the care and timely manner they handled everything but that does seem quite high to me to sedate, 4 stiches and wake her up and a few meds. My comparison is simply due to us having an older pup of ours last week who had to be fully sedated for a intricate surgery for his right eye and tear duct removal, over triple the amount of internal and exterior closing stiches with two-10 day meds to take due to un-repairable cataract due to age. all that for just under $1000. Again, many thanks to the staff and doc but I hope we don't need emerg on a sunday ever again..

There is a gap in the company communication. The Outgoing phone message needs to be updated with current process to be seen. One would need to visit the website to know the process to be seen. I googled the phone number and called. The phone plays an outgoing message that does not include this process and says to proceed to the clinic if your pet is in distress. I phoned, got the outgoing message and proceeded to enter the building upon arrival where I was aggressively told to go back to my car and accused of lying when I explained about the outgoing phone message. The staff (I was scolded by) should be a lot more understanding and empathetic. Nobody comes here unless they have to. It is an emergency vet clinic. Read my other reviews, I think this is my first negative review.

Jose G

Very professional and caring staff.

Nathan Paquette

I just want to say thank you to Tracy. She is incredible, she is exactly the type of person you want to see in an emergency: smart, helpful, and compassionate. Biggest thanks to her and the team.

Michel C

I took my senior dog to be euthanised as my regular veterinarian was not open. She was at the end stage of life and her pain medications were no longer effective. The girls who performed the euthanasia were competent, compassionate and warm hearted. Thank you for making a very difficult time a little more bearable XOXO

This place is amazing. They were so caring and reasonable coming in late at night. They took great care of our grizzly. Thank you so much!

I don't usually write reviews but I feel like I probably should for this. I called in an panic because my cat was noticeably sick, receptionist told me to come in right away as the symptoms were potentially fatal. We get there only to be greeted by the receptionist who has zero customer service skills and zero compassion. Another couple waiting to have their pet looked at were equally as irritated and mentioned she was on facebook the entire time. We waited over 2 hours to have my cat looked after, and when I asked how long it would be- she gave me a very sarcastic and rude answer. For someone who is the "face" of the business, isn't helping it at all. The only reason I am giving two stars is solely because the vet showed compassion, was very informative and was genuinely concerned for my cat.

Adam

They will make something up that sounds threatening to pressure you into paying 700$ to leave your pet for the night over. Absolute scam.

Sandra Campbell

My cat was critically ill when he arrived at the Emergency Clinic of Waterloo. Dr Shuderman did emergency surgery and was his primary during the 5 days he was there. She is so amazing along with the whole team who looked after him. They kept me informed at every step and thanks to them, my cat Simba is making a full recovery. I thank them all from the bottom of my heart for taking such good care of him.

Sandra Carroca

This was the most heartless vet and I left feeling horrible! I brought my 15 yr old shi tzu to get put down. She had fallen very ill and I knew it was time. I paid $400.00 which I thought would include some kind of an exam. I asked if she checked my little girl just in case there was something we could do and this heartless vet said “no I didn’t check her, that’ll be another $150.00 dollars..” I just wanted her to say I was doing the right thing. That my dog was old and sick and it wouldn’t even be worth me paying her another $150 dollars to tell me what was so clear already. The whole procedure took less than a minute and my baby was gone. I walked out of there feeling guilty. Every other vet said we had to wait a week but we couldn’t watch her suffer any more and also all of their prices included an examination, so we took her to Maplegrove to see dr. Johanna Wagner as she could see my baby that night and I regret it with all my heart. I left there feeling guilty like I just paid you $400 dollars to execute my baby girl. It took you less than a minute to put her down and you couldn’t even take an extra 3 minutes to give us your opinion and at least ease our minds? You are a heartless woman with no compassion and I hope no one else ever walks out of any vet clinic feeling the way me and my mother did that day! ????????????????????????

Clinic staff was exceptionally kind and understanding from the moment I called. Every staff member helped make a heart breaking situation as expedient as possible without rushing me out or being rigid and bureaucratic. I'm so grateful these wonderful people are here for our pets when we need them.

David Stocker

Had to make a visit to EVC and the compassion shown by the staff of this facility was first rate. My dog suffered some major reactions to the normal vaccines and my home vet was not particularly helpful. The veterinarian who looked after my dog (shout out to Dr Jeff Aramini) took the time to explain what was going on. He explained in great detail what I needed to know and yet, kept it simple enough to a lay person. Made all the arrangements for further care and helped to assure me that we were on the proper course. Thanks again.

hannah sheer

Honestly can't complain, staff is really friendly, and they don't try to upsell you on anything. They give their honest option on what best for your pet. Thank you very much!

Peter Schaefer

I had to have my 12 year old boxer euthanized this past Saturday. I had to write a review. I was incredibly impressed by all the staff at the Emergency Veterinary Clinic of Waterloo Region. They put both myself and my pet at ease. They explained the procedure clearly; giving me an opportunity to make decisions along the way. They genuinely cared. We had taken our dog to this clinic on a couple occasions in the past. And we were always satisfied. (They never tried to sell us extra services like so many vets do these days.) But I was overwhelmingly impressed this past weekend. P.S. I cannot say the same thing for our regular vet. They turned us away saying that there wasn't an opening until Monday I couldn't believe it. My dog was suffering. I probably shouldn't be so kind. But I won't mention their name.

Danie Patchell

As a fellow emerge DVM in a neighboring town who's own clinic was at capacity Sunday night; thank you for taking in a close friend's ailing senior kitty to help her find peace. I've known Alexis since she was a spicy kitten and I was an awkward 13 year old prospective vet. She outlived all of my family pets. I knew her time was near, and it pains me I was not able to be there at the end for her. Thank you, again, for all your wonderful work.

Lisa Rankin

If I could leave minus 5 stars I would. Last place I would bring my pet EVER!

Amanda Schepp

Very professional and super caring staff! Came here because my frenchie had a swollen eye/ bump on his head that progressed quickly throughout the day. They were so great! They explained everything, talked about next steps and preventative measures. I highly recommend!!!!

Jeannie Papp

I took my dog here around the middle of July (the 12th) to treat an infected gash on his face. This place was my only option to go to as other vet clinics were all booked. The crew working there were phenomenal treating my dog especially with his cranky senior tendencies! I believe Dr. Cathy Schell was the vet who looked after my dog and she did an AMAZING job, was very polite and straightforward especially during this time when everything is being dealt with through phone calls. The receptionist was also super sweet and very great answering some of my questions before arriving to the clinic and after my time there about my dogs prescriptions. Probably the nicest receptionist I’ve ever spoken to actually! It has now been a month or so and my dog is doing fantastic and the wound has healed up very nicely. I would definitely recommend this clinic for any emergencies. I would give it more than five stars if I could!

Cait Abramovitz

Our dog was very sick around 4am. We called them and advised of all her symptoms and our attempted at home treatments. Instead of offering even a small bit of sympathy, the receptionist told us they were extremely busy and even if we brought her in, we would have to wait (which is obviously not a problem for us). She told us to wait until 8am (probably her shift change and she wouldn’t have to deal with us). She never allowed us to fully explain what was wrong with our dog as she kept cutting us off. I will NEVER bring my dog here for emergency services or any other service. I ended up calling the emergency vet in Guelph where they were able to help us and our dog. Avoid if at all possible ****

Natalia Butylkin

Receptionist washorrible, aggressive and unkind, physically assaulting a customer after refusing to return their pet. Police had to be called

Mike Mooney

I recently had to take my cat in to the Emergency Vet Clinic of Waterloo, and I would not hesitate to recommend their services to anyone. I realized my cat had a serious issue at midnight on a Saturday night. (Perfect time for that right?) I called ahead to let them know I was coming in. I was told it wasn't necessary to call, but is appreciated so that they can expect your pet. Check in went quickly, and we were seeing the veterinarian in a timely manner. I understand there are several veterinarians at this clinic, and I was comforted by the friendliness and professionalism of the doctor we saw. My cat was diagnosed quickly, his immediate needs were met, and we left with all the medications he would need for his treatment. We were directed to our regular veterinarian for follow up care. I was also shocked by just how reasonable the rates were. I'd be willing to pay anything to help my pets, but this was incredibly reasonable. It's comforting to know I live so close to a facility that offer this level of care for emergencies. I can't thank them enough for the help they gave my little buddy.

Very unprofessional staff this hospital is just jock

On Christmas Eve I had to make the hardest decision and had to euthanize my cat. Every one I dealt with was very kind, caring, and respectful. They helped me make the hard choice for the good of my cat. Thank you to all of you even though I never got anybody's names thank you for him and my family.

Nancy Ball

Tonight, I took my elderly cat, Molly, to get checked. I suspected I would have to have her put down, and this was very gently confirmed. Dr. Kirsten Anderson explained things in a way that was honest and forthright, which I really appreciated. She could’ve pushed for further treatment, but we both knew there was no point. Both she and her assistant were so very kind, and compassionate. I would like to sincerely thank them both. Molly’s last moments were loving and peaceful.

Alexandra

Visited because our dog had a small but painful issue. Pretty much no wait at all, doctor helped our dog and only charged us the appointment fee. Vet tech was very kind and competent.

Jonny Cannon

I've been here a couple of times with canine emergencies; most recently tonight. The staff here go above and beyond. They are so busy and are run off their feet. Kudos to these angels. Rayne says thank-you!

Teresa Di Stasi

I will never go back here. I am still so angry at the vet that saw my dog. She said it might be an infection and sent me away with antibiotics. He passed away 2 days later. They just want your money.

Jake Jake

We had to make a horrible decision and say goodbye to our beautiful cat in the middle of the night here. The staff was so caring and did everything possible to comfort us and our little old lady. Thank you!

mandy t

i called in the middle of the night was told do not listen to the receptionist and that they were swamped and to bring to my dog to regular vet in the daytime and he died at 8am in pain.

Darcee Carnes

Front desk receptionist has literally no customer service ability or any sense of compassion. My dog was very ill and I brought her in and she barely spoke to me and was not accurately writing down my dogs symptoms to show severity. I waited over an hour and asked how long it would be and she shrugged at me. I mentioned that my dog was sick and was hoping to see someone and she just responded "well all pets that come here are sick, that's why they are here". My dog had a terminal diagnosis and I was trying to get her help in that moment to help her through the night. An emergency vet should require it's employees to have some level of empathetic ability or communications skills, especially if they are front line staff. It puts pets at risk for someone to be so dismissive. I ended up having to put my baby down a week later and was terrified every night that something was going to go wrong overnight and I would have to take her back and deal with this nasty human in one of the darkest times of my life.

Christine McCullough

After a very sudden illness, I took my cat to this clinic at midnight on Saturday night. Because of her condition, they took her inside to keep an eye on her. I had to wait in my car, in the parking lot because of Covid-19 restrictions. And yes, the wait was quite long. But just like going to the ER or a walk-in clinic, a wait is to be expected. When we finally saw the vet she was professional, kind and made sure that I understood all of my options. In the end, I decided to say good-bye to my cat that night. Both the vet tech and vet were very kind and patient. As even though there are restrictions in place, I was allowed to be with my cat as she passed, which I am very thankful for. I have a vet that is much closer to me that I will use in the future, but I am so glad that this clinic exists to help pet owners when all other clinics are closed.

Jon Kropf

Just wanted to say thank you to the vet and staff here for helping in my dog's final moments this past weekend. He became sick quite suddenly, and at about 9:00 PM on Sunday evening I called and they had me come in; when I arrived they took him in for an exam and xrays immediately. Unfortunately his condition was too severe and there wasn't much that could be done to help, so we made the choice to put him to rest and relieve him of pain and suffering. The vet and staff were all very compassionate and helpful, providing all the information about his condition, the next steps and everything I should know. They gave me as much time as needed, and were very empathetic and caring. The lady working at the reception desk was also very welcoming and compassionate. In sad moments, it helps to have a caring team to help as much as they can.

Janis Snyder

Amazing clinic. Dr. Gloria Arcuri was fantastic with my little dog and diagnostic x/ray came back as bladder stone. She was able to dislodge the one stone. Thank you for your kindness and compassion and excellent care you provided to Harley!!

Ailish Wade

Dr. Johanna Wagner is lovely! We had to bring our sick cat in twice over Easter weekend and she was so so wonderful - very caring, but also very transparent and helpful. We couldn't ask for a more positive experience at the emergency vet.
