Unfortunately, my last experience was not good as my I lost my fur baby due to an unknown illness. Zoey was a patient through Parkdale Animal Hospital since she was a kitten. She was 7 when she passed.
I called Tuesday morning requesting an emergency appointment as my cat was experiencing some significant health issues. I was told they were too busy, and the best they could do was a Wednesday afternoon appointment at 2:40pm.
I called Tuesday afternoon again explaining this was urgent and was told that a veterinarian was not available and even though they were open for 2 more hours they could not help me. I was instructed to call an alternate hospital in Brockville, or take her to Ottawa or Kingston as they offer 24hr emergency care. Unfortunately the other local hospital was less helpful than the one I have dealt with for 7 years. I did look over my cat and made the dreadful decision that I would wait for the Wednesday appointment.
I arrived at the Animal hospital at 2:00pm Wednesday afternoon and was told that my appointment was at 2:40 and I should just go to Tim Hortons and come back. I explained for a third time my cat was very ill and needed attention, and that I would gladly wait outside by my white truck in the event they could get her in earlier. They called back in 5 minutes and brought her in. The lady that met me outside was very professional and pleasant, and indicated they would look at her right away.
At 2:15 the Veterinarian came out and very professionally explained his initial observation indicated that she would require additional test. We quickly discussed the options and proceeded with the secondary examination. At 2:30 he returned and very professionally explained that my baby girl had passed, explaining some probable heath causes that may have triggered her sudden illness. He asked if I wanted to say goodbye as I was noticeably heartbroken. While saying goodbye to Zoey the staff were very professional and courteous. They helped with arrangements, and left me alone allowing me to take as much time as I needed to say goodbye.
So overall a terrible experience as I lost my cuddle bug, baby girl, little booger, my Zoey. Although my Wednesday appointment was terrible on personal note, the staff were amazing and very professional. What I don’t understand is why it took a patient of 7 years that was under medical distress, 28 hours for them to finally receive her. I am not going to speculate if seeing her sooner would have changed the outcome. I just wish any facility that uses the label “hospital” would provide emergency care.
