A few weeks ago my mother and I contacted Mill Bay vet about our very sick dog had gotten out and we suspected had ingested something, and the vet on call tried to talk us out of bringing the dog in. She said it would take her 40 minutes to come in (not our problem) and couldn't we watch him for the night and bring him in tomorrow? When I insisted she sighed like it was a real burden, but agreed. When we got here she decided he had marihuana poisoning based on shakes and tremors, despite the fact we have no idea where he went or what he really got in to. She hydrated him him, and sent him home. Everyone else I've talked to asked if he was given activated charcoal, which he wasn't. At about midnight he threw up some grey sludgy stuff and we have since discovered that someone is dumping soiled adult diapers and other related garbage in the very alley way our dog was found. In addition, she refused to allow us to pay by cheque, despite the fact other clients do, and went on and on about how she doesn't get paid if we don't come back. I feel her prejudice about marijuana, despite it's real threat to dogs, caused her to give extremely poor service and I'm disgusted with the support we DIDN'T get, but even more, that attitude we did. I would not take my dog back there if I didn't have to, though I'm hoping it was the attitude of one person and not the practice as a whole. Regardless, I'm am disappointed enough that I had to write this review.

This is in regard to the treatment of our family cat Griff. The tech was largely not interested in hearing about our concerns. Ended up treating an ongoing condition already under control and charging us almost two hundred dollars for a five minute exam and an Rx for antibiotics. We wanted some blood work to help diagnose an uncharacteristic lethargy they wanted another two hundred dollars for. The same treatment for an uninsured human in a doctors office would have been half what the vet charged.

I tried to ask about the "program" shot for my cat, I couldn't remember the name, and they had no idea what I was talking about at reception :/ so I had to use the back of the neck flea and tick medication without any other options offered? I'm going to go back and bother them about it next time though.

The receptionists always answer any question they can and/or will ask the vet and give guidance over the phone. If you think you have a problem with your pet, you can explain it to them and they will advise you on what to do, whether you should make an appointment, how to deal with it in the meantime, etc. Super helpful and kind. My puppy has major fear issues with regards to the vet and they are very accommodating for both him and me

Good care for my senior dog. Only vet that saw my dogs symptoms as urgent and got me in. She was very sick with pancreatitis and they referred me to an urgent care hospital for overnight care.

We bought our pup here as they came highly recommended from everyone we know that has pets. We took her here for her routine shots and all we could say is this is a very busy office where you see different vets each time and your lucky if you get 5 mins of there time, although everyone was very friendly. When she got seriously ill the level of interest in her and her well being was next to none, we couldn't even get them to call with test results ....We did some tests, and loads of antibiotics but no improvement until they finally told us to come back when she was worse....really? The only way she could be worse was if she passed on! So we sought a second opinion, and were immediately refered to a specialist in Vancouver, who is helping us. They couldn't believe we weren't referred earlier...all we did was waste a month, thousands of dollars and prolonged our dogs agony. Needless to say we won't be back anytime soon, and most of our friends won't be either.

Hi. I would like to thank mill bay vets and the lovely technician who gladly came out to the parking lot to give my dog his booster shot. He is a one person dog and I knew he would be so upset if he was taken from me. She gave him a shot and all was good. I would like to thank MBV for kindly considering my dogs feelings. Dr Christine Fisher save our cat's life. He had bladder full of stones and needed an emergency surgery. She is very caring and compassionate doctor with no nonsense approach. She also doesn't try to up sell to make more money and we truly appreciated that. Our cat is recovering very well thanks to her and the staff members at the clinic.

I am not normally one to post reviews, negative or positive, but I am so upset right now. I was not initially listened to by the tech or the vet about what my concerns are for my aging cat, instead they decided to treat an ongoing issue that I am fully aware of and have under control. Was his chart/history even looked at? I feel like I just spent close to $200 for no reason but to walk in the door. I will definitely be seeking out another vet.

No hesitation in recommending this team! Of all the vet I've had across Canada, this is hands down a favourite. Considerate and knowledgable staff that are willing to explain things if you need it. We never feel rushed, and rates are reasonable. So fortunate to find them close to home.

I have been using this vet for over 30 years and have been very happy with them until recently. There has been some management and personnel changes and the level of service and professionalism has gone down the toilet. I recently took my cat with a swollen cheek there and saw a Dr Carmen Bell she at first misdiagnosed him and gave me some eye drops and antibiotics and said if it didn't get better in a couple of weeks it might be a tooth. Well it didn't get better so I phoned her and she said the tooth would have to come out and would cost 1200 hundred dollars I asked if there was any alternative as it was very expensive. She said the only alternative was to put him down.I said I would have to talk to my Wife and we would get back to her and that is where the conversation should have ended.She then said that if I didn't take action immediately and have the tooth removed or the cat euthanized that she would call the SPCA.Needless to say I won't be threatened or strong-armed. and I will never take an animal there again.

Dr. Susan Stevenson helped us three years ago with her professionalism and thoughtfulness and since then we have been on many occasion at the hospital with our 2 beloved dogs. That was Dr Susan we liked so very much and trusted her. Today my view of the clinic ( not Dr. Susan) has been changed - upon arriving to the hospital believing we have an appointment for one of my dogs ( she became very sick in the course of 2 days ) , we were turn down and sent away by the person at the front desk. She just simply said "we are dealing with one emergency now". My DOG is in HEAVEN now, but the way I was dealt with is inexcusable. .

Our farm has been a client of this clinic for 30 years. Dr.Leo for large animals is hands down amazing and is the reason we continue to deal with this clinic. As of now I believe he is giving the best service of his entire career. We have used all services for many years and today I was extremely disappointed. I phoned today to try to book in one of my cats and was told they couldn’t fit him in. Fine under normal circumstances but this situation was considered an emergency and the front desk even told me this is an emergency situation and he needs to see a vet today. You would think for an emergency mid week they would squeeze it in somehow some way. I have found another vet to look at my cat today but am now considering pulling my small animal business there completely. Emergency situations should be priority. Especially for a client that gives them as much business as we have over the years

After using this vet solely for the last 30 years, I was shocked when I called with an emergency DURING operating hours that there were no Vets working Saturday. In my hour of need they were 'unavailable' to help. This is a far cry from what this Vet office used to be. No emergency services, no after hour help. Nothing!!

Well when I talked about being billed twice without being told I would was really rude. They are good but it was scary the 2nd time when the sedated my baby. To get a hoove trim for my pot belly pig it costs me 1000 very ridiculous and then when I mentioned it was ridiculous they told me they no longer will be deal with me. That is very unprofessional I would not recommend anyone taking there baby there very inconsiderate ppl there.

Mill Bay Veterinary Hospital used to be a great place to get excellent care for my pets, but after the turnover in ownership there were too many things going wrong at the same time. Prices went up as did appointment wait times. There seemed to be a revolving door of new vets and the straw that broke the camels back was when the vet who had been caring for our dying dog, was suddenly no longer employed there. At this point, we had only been staying with mill bay vets for her as she had been his dr for over 5 years. 2 weeks before he died she just disappeared with no warning leaving our family scrambling during an incredibly difficult time. Which is a shame because the front staff are lovely and always very helpful and kind. We have since moved to a different Veterinary hospital who are consistent, knowledgeable and kind.
