Our dog has been seeing Dr. Kirsty Elliot in Oncology for the past 2 months. The entire Oncology Team is compassionate and professional. Our girl is still happy to go in with Tia for her chemotherapy treatment. It means so much to us knowing that our dog is treated with kindness and is in expert hands. Dr. Elliot is extremely knowledgeable and caring, answering all our questions and explaining next step as treatment progresses. We really appreciate the detailed reports and follow-up we receive which is really helpful to help coordinate with our regular veterinarian. Thank you for being such a caring Team!

The experts at BBSVH have saved my Service Dog's 'life' twice in 6 months. My vet was in err (twice) and so BB's Dr. Geoffrey Hutchinson DVM, MS, DACVS - aka 'brilliant surgeon' saved 'Tiger' from a misdiagnosis of hip dysplasia (he deduced a pulled groin) and resultant recommendation for surgical excision of back leg's femoral head (FHO) and most recently, BB's Dr. Astrid Nielssen DVM, MVSc, DACVIM - aka 'internal medicine Goddess' corrected a misdiagnosis of Cushing's disease, to be the significantly more benign (and treatable) Diabetes mellitus. A game changer. Local Vets cannot be experts in every discipline and so 'no blame' attached. That said, the air smells so much better when you have an EXPERT on your side. A certified / registered Service Dog has a value that can only be equated via functions of 'love' and 'inputs toward quality of life' (and in BC, it takes 3.5 - 4 years & ~ 25K to obtain a Service Dog due to 'PADS' immoral monopoly). Such animals are both magical and sacrosanct. BB's 'team' is the very best and though it 'kinda sux' your amigo may someday require such high level care, to not have available would be akin to a crime against nature. Though I do not possess the ability to deliver the appropriate level of heartfelt thanks these professionals so deserve, perhaps this review will help others with their decision as to whom they entrust their best friend's health. Without them, Tiger may well have been both crippled and ill beyond repair. TY BB - 'Tig' is happy and well taken care of. It means everything.

This clinic is completely lacking in communication with its clients. When we had our first appointment I had no idea how long they would keep my dog. We waited in the car for 3 hours while they did tests on him. I had a one year old in the vehicle with me, it was not a great time. If they would have told me how long it would be I would have went home or killed time somewhere else. Our dog needed an ultrasound which our vet had told us when we were referred and the day of our appointment the tech was out at another clinic so we had to come back another day. If I would have known that the tech wouldn’t be in that day we would have booked another day. Finally when we went back for our follow up appointment our dog got more bloodwork done and urine tested and I never got the results. I called multiple times and was told they were still waiting on some of the tests. It’s been two weeks since our appointment and we put our dog down yesterday. So we basically paid $300 for nothing. It would have been helpful to get the results to either start a new treatment or to help us make this difficult decision. In the 7 weeks we were clients at this office they never followed up once to check on our dog. Extremely disappointed with the service we received here.

My pupper got the dreaded cancer diagnosis last month, lymphoma. It sucks. I was worried about the wait to start treatment, prognosis, chemo, if she’s in pain… That’s why I’m here to say thanks to BBVSH for the AMAZING job that they did! They got me in quick (on Easter Sunday during Covid times if I may add) and laid out all the information for me to understand in a clear and friendly way (diagnosis, prognosis, the options I have and what their recommendations were). They were even able to start Chemo on her the same day! Special shout out to the friendly techs, administration and Dr. Robinson (Oncologist). Your care and love for my pupper was obvious and she was just as happy and at ease coming back out as when she went in. I really appreciate Dr. Robinson taking the time and care to answer all those questions that I had (and I had a lot). If your pupper is sick, I’m sorry. However, you can take comfort that you will do right by him/her by coming here. Good luck on your treatments whatever they may be. God Bless.

Amazing surgical experience for my pitbull, thank you Dr. Crawford and staff. Professional and compassionate every step of the way!

Top notch Oncology Service. It’s a position no pet owner wants to be in, and a great hospital makes a big difference. Thank you Dr. Herrera and team for the outstanding and accommodating care. I appreciate the sympathy card and miss Athena very much.

I am a human emergency physician. I am clear that my knowledge has little cross over when taking care of my dogs. My dog Luke has been to Boundary Bay vet for emergencies throughout his 15 year life. All of the staff - receptionists, vet assistants, vets - are always fabulous. They never try to rip me off with suggesting tests that Luke doesn't really need. When Luke was younger, he swallowed a nut and ended up with a horrible GI obstruction. This team saved his life without a doubt. I cannot thank they enough for the high quality and informed care they provide. I would not hesitate for a second to bring animals to this excellent service to Langley residents and beyond.

My dog ate something he shouldn’t have and did an emergency blockage removal surgery by dr Hutchinson and the staff tonight. This is simba’s third surgery done by Boundarybay hospital! I can not describe in words how wonderful and professional they are especially jennnifer and dr crowford and dr Hutchinson!! I would not recommend anywhere else other than the boundary bay hospital! they truly take care of your baby to the highest level of attention and care. Thanks again dr Hutchinson!!

Thank you so much for being the only hospital in BC that provides Cardiology services for dogs and cats! It shows that you are truly caring, organized, and willing to put an extraordinary effort to support your patients' well-being. An amazing team at the BBVSH: we are so grateful to Jennifer, Ashley, and everyone else at this clinic

My dog was referred by our regular vet to the cardiology department at Boundary Bay. From the time we arrived and phoned to check in, it was an excellent experience. The staff member who answered the phone and came out to get my dog was cheerful, friendly, and a pleasure to talk to. She greeted my dog gently and let her sniff her before taking her inside. Dr. Harmon, the cardiologist, phoned me when he was finished examining my dog and explained things clearly, allowing lots of space for questions and providing information and resources. The next day, I received an email with a detailed summary of the appointment and findings as well as supplementary information about my dog's condition. I'm very grateful for the kind and informative treatment my dog and I received from Boundary Bay, and I'm glad that they'll continue to be involved in my dog's monitoring.

We have been seeing Dr. Wright for the past year and super happy with her knowledge and professionalism. I have an English Mastiff and due to their size, care for them is different in many ways. Dr. Wright performed surgery on dog, she had complications post op and Dr. Wright got her back to being fully functional again. I can't thank her enough. My dog is my baby at 160 pounds ????.

My dog Zeus was seen at another hospital in September after he became partially paralyzed in all 4 legs. After an MRI, CT Scan, spinal tap, ultrasounds, numerous x-rays and blood tests, we had no conclusive answer as to what was wrong with him. We were sent home with steroids and told to rest Zeus for quite a while. At first he recovered well, but off the steroids he rapidly regressed and our previous neurologist wouldn't return our calls or emails, despite numerous phone calls to the clinic from myself and my vet. With Zeus rapidly declining, we decided to transfer to Boundary Bay after Dr. Gordon had graciously reviewed Zeus' initial imaging and offered his opinion. At this point months had passed, so we had to repeat his MRI. We were booked in very quickly, and the day after the MRI Zeus went into surgery. Dr. Gordon was able to find and address the problem that had been plaguing us for over 4 months. It has now been nearly 2 months since Zeus' surgery and I am ecstatic to stay that he is recovering remarkably well. He has been off steroids and all pain medications for over 2 weeks and shows no signs of regressing. We are so happy to have the old Zeus back!

Had my little dog in today for a surgical consultation for a luxating patella. We saw Dr. Evan Crawford. He was saw kind and informative as he went through all of the information I would need to make a decision for my little dog. I felt very comfortable and that my dog was in very good hands. The staff was extremely kind and went out of their way to make me and my dog comfortable too. Thank you Boundary Bay.

Matthew Mason

Such a great staff. Helpful with so much while I had my blue(cat) getting looked at.

We have had nothing but problems here. Today I tried calling multiple times, finally got through for a lady to say " I am going to rip the phone out of the wall" and hung up on me. After about 10-12 phone calls back we finally got through and filed a complaint once again. The lady my fiance spoke to basically said we were lying and non of the staff would say they were going to rip a phone out of the wall and hang up. Avoid this place. They dont care about the animals well being. Only want your money. We have been lied to, our dog got soft tissue damage from being in the care of this establishment and now the poor service. Please go else where

The staff at Boundary Bay Veterinary Specialty Hospital are AMAZING! My Pomeranian Puppy, Mickey was on a walk, where he suddenly collapsed and was unable to walk anymore ! His regular vet referred us to a neurologist STAT. Thank you so much to Emma from the Neurology department, who managed to have the AMAZING Dr. Gordon assess Mickey outside of his schedule. Our dog spent the night at the hospital, and Dr. Gordon gave us frequent updates as he did different testings to figure out why Mickey had lost right side sensation in his body. He was very detailed and thorough, and explained everything to us very patiently. We were so lucky to have such knowledgable, professional neurologist looking after Mickey. Dr. Gordon followed up with us in a couple of days, and answered all our questions with lots of patience and detail. All the nurses and receptionist at the hospital were superb at giving us updates every time we called, and they never seemed frustrated to be dealing with an anxious dog-mom. Thank you Dr. Gordon, Emma, all the nursing staff, and receptionists at BBVSH. Mickey was so lucky to be treated by all of you guys ! We will be back at BBVSH physiotherapy to help Mickey mobilize again :) ! We can't thank you all enough !!

We were very pleased with the care our little Sheltie received yesterday. She was seen immediately and they did a thorough exam, history etc. Fortunately it was not too serious and we were able to take her home after the vet had spoken to us at length. The cost was reasonable for an emergency clinic visit. The staff and dr. were great!

Absolutely amazing experience! Unfortunately my dobie Fargo had a GDV (also known as a bloat) on Jan. 4th at 11:30 pm. I acted fast and called Boundary Bay hospital, who were also super quick on response. Fargo went to surgery after midnight on Jan. 5th. Dr. Tim Donihee admitted Fargo and called in a surgeon Dr. Tanya Wright and Dr. Jassica Knapp is the one I mostly communicated with. We were kept up to date on everything. I had lots of questions and all were answered. I saw some inflammation happening, so took a picture and sent it to the Boundary Bay team, who responded in timely manner. It was very stressful 2 weeks for our family but I am so appreciative of the clinic who saved my boy and kept me sane. I truly appreciate every single one of you! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Hey Dr. Vogt. All of bad reviews are for your clinic. Do not try to give excuses saying “ Can’t find files , not your clinic etc.”. Your clinic is the worst Veterinay in Vancouver. Shame…. DO NOT bring your lovely pet here if you love your pet. They are only good in front but not when you take home your pet in much worse condition when you come in. They only cared about the money! All about making as much money from you as they can. I cannot stress enough to anyone to check prices before you visit these con people. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER FOR MY PUPPY AND MY FAMILY!

Jelena Bajeva

The most horrific experience. Dog had partial tarsal arthrodesis in July due to injury. Surgery went well as per surgeon. Day 10 dressing changed at Boundary Bay, sutures removed. I was told that incision appeared healed but she had small sore on her paw. Day 13 I took dressing off to change it, incision was infected with bone and plate visible and deep tissue necrosis to her paw. Antibiotics and dressing changes daily, the wound was healing slowly until the plate broke the bone, informed the surgeon, agreed to remove the plate, post 2nd surgery in October incision healed except open area which was getting more open until i could see the sharp edge of the bone, removed the bone with sharp edges, within a week wound healed. The dog is not weight bearing and never was since 1st surgery, perhaps never will. I rarely write reviews but in this case I had too, to worn others that want the best for their dogs but could end up with more problems. I trusted reputation of the clinic.

My cat had a polyp growing in his ear which was blocking his ear canal and causing persistent infection. He needed a bulla osteotomy. The surgery alone was close to $5K. I decided to proceed with it as this has been a recurring issue for the past 2 years. He was sent home with some pain killer and no antibiotics. I think he only got intravenous ones during the surgery. I thought that was strange. I went into debt in order to pay for it as I didn't have the full amount readily available, but I was willing to do it as the surgery was supposed to fix the issue. Well...it didn't. It's been 3 months since the surgery. He still has the infection. The ear drops I was provided during the last visit (roughly a month after surgery and that cost additional $400) have done nothing. I was told to see my regular vet as they don't deal with "regular" diseases. As nice, lovely and friendly Dr. Knapp was, it doesn't change the fact that I spent a whopping amount of money for a procedure that hasn't really done what it was supposed to do and it didn't improved my cat's quality of life. On top of that I was told that he might need additional testing and a possible MRI to figure out why the infection isn't going away. It doesn't take an expert to figure out how much that will cost and I simply can't afford anymore vet visits, so my cat is still in discomfort. Not impressed.

Dr Gordon and staff were excellent!

Dr Kathryn Ash was very nice, compassionate and thorough made me feel like she actually cared about my cats well being. The front desk ladies were also very nice and caring. Especially Sheena she was amazing. They were fast, and efficient and reasonably priced. I will definitely bring my cat back.. thank you everyone that helped tonight.

The staff and vets at this hospital are amazing. I came to them at the peak of a very long ordeal with my dog and a knee injury gone really wrong. They were so caring and went above and beyond to make sure both me and my dog were taken care of. Dr. Crawford was always available to me for questions and concerns even responding to e-mails late into the night and checking in on my boy at 4:30am post surgery. I highly recommend this clinic to friends in need, I'm forever thankful that I was sent to your clinic when I was. Thank you!

We live in Victoria and there is no longer any oncology vet on the island so we have been attending this hospital with one of our Leonbergers who developed osteosarcoma back in September. I have to say the staff have been great, and Dr. Hererra has also be great, answering all our questions clearly. We have been very happy with the treatment our beloved girl has received. If anyone is coming from the island I can recommend that it is much easier and faster to go to Boundary Bay Vet than travel through Vancouver to the other well known specialist vet. Our journey once off the ferry takes us around 50 minutes, with no traffic jams and not a lot of traffic. We usually get an appt at around 11.30 in the morning which means we can get the 9am ferry from Victoria.

We are absolutely fortunate to have wonderful Dr. Ellen Denstedt putting our beloved dog to sleep. She genuinely cares about our dog and has THE BEST BEDSIDE MANNER. She is also very thorough with her work and knowledgable. Thank you Dr. Ellen, we are truly grateful.

BBVSH I would like to say to anyone who loves their furry family that this is one of the best facilities in the province. I can not thank them enough for helping my girl in a desperate situation, on Christmas Day...they went above and beyond for us and her...they all should have action figures made of them...standing proud, capes in the wind! they are my hero's! xoxoxoxo

Wonderful team and advanced, well-equipped facilities. Your pet will be in excellent hands at BBVSH if they are ever in need of emergency or specialty care. Can't recommend enough.

Waste of time and worry. Dr. Johnson gave the assessment of enlarged heart or cancer which left me crying throughout the day. Little did I know he only guessed, he had not even seen my cat. He did some tests and then couldn't tell me what the results meant. He just said I don't know. The guy couldn't even make decisions, he told me they couldn't get a reading for one of the tests. Then silence on the phone, I said well then you're going to try again to get a reading right? To which he replied oh um yeah I guess we could try it again. And I replied with, yes you should. I had to tell him what to do in a normal vet situation. He seemed confused and utterly clueless. He also went on a tangent about how not feeding a cat real cat food can have all these negative effects, after 5 min of that I stopped him and said we've always fed him cat food? I drove down to Seattle to get some real care and answers and next steps for what to do. I'd avoid the emergency side of this vet hospital.

My dog had both of her TTA surgeries done at Boundary Bay Veterinary Specialty Hospital. (I never considered having them done at a clinic that wasn't Board Certified.) Certainly receiving the diagnosis from my vet and then sending her in for surgery (twice) was scary (for both of us), incredibly stressful, and expensive. But it was the best money I've ever spent. I trusted the BBVSH staff and surgeons completely and they didn't let us down. Every person we worked was kind, patient, helpful and clear -- and beyond capable. My dog's second-knee recovery was very complicated and long (her fault, not theirs), and her surgeon Dr. Crawford spent many, many hours with us exploring options for speeding healing and keeping her happy. So kind. Today, several years later, my now-senior girl adventures, swims, hikes and runs like the wind. Dr. Crawford and his team are our heroes. Yes, her treatment was expensive -- much more than a regular family vet. But I was willing to pay for the very best care and surgery by the province's top doctors. 10/10 Recommend.

Over the past 15 years this Specialty Hospital has been our go-to emergency place. Without fail, our experiences have resulted in 100% satisfaction and in the one instance where our amazing Lab, Hooper was unable to recover from a genetic problem, the warm, caring doctors and support staff made this experience bearable and memorable. Kind, knowledgeable, supportive and thoughtful are the best words to describe BBSVH. Thank you for all the good work you do!

Britt Senko

Wonderful staff and great care. Our golden retriever went in to their emergency room in January 2016 and was treated so wonderfully. We had a brand new baby at the time and the team at BBVSH were compassionate and communicative with us at all times. They also worked effectively with our insurance company (Trupanion) to ensure that we had minimal upfront costs.

Learning that the 11-year-old cat I thought was in perfect health had a carcinoid tumor, and that it couldn't be removed, was a huge shock. But I want to thank everyone at Boundary Bay for your empathy and sensitivity every step of the way. You made a horrific situation as bearable as humanly possible, from the day I brought her to your doorstep to the day nine weeks later when I had to say goodbye to her. Thank you for everything you did for her, and to support me through all of this.

The staff here were great. From the sign in process, through the diagnosis/explanation, to the end decision and care - I felt like my dear Caly was cared for at the highest standard. My visit was an emergency - when I pulled up they were waiting by the door ready to accept my Pharaoh Hound, Calypso, who was unable to walk. The tech took her from my arms and got her into diagnosis ASAP. The sign in process was straight forward, I was made aware of any fees, billing was easily done through email and phone. The Dr. was non-bias and straight forward with the diagnosis and options; he was also very helpful and understanding as I had to make critical decisions. Unfortunately, Caly's acute condition was one that I feared would cause her too much stress and the decision was made. Myself and my partner were allowed to be there for her passing, holding her through the end. The staff were very kind, allowing us as much time with Caly as we needed and made the process less stressful. The attending Dr. explained everything, answered our questions, and assured us all along the way until we left. They also updated my family vet as to her condition, tests, and outcome. I'm heartbroken writing this difficult review, but so thankful for the care my Calypso received at Boundary Bay, and thankful for the staff for making the whole process bearable during this hard time. Thank you, thank you for caring for my precious Caly.

I brought my dog in for potential toxin ingestion. Boundary Bay staff was super responsive and gave me a full quote for what treatments they wanted to do. The pricing was very reasonable.

The wonderful people at Boundary Bay have taken care of our boy since he was diagnosed with lung cancer. Not only were they able to get us in quickly for surgery, but Dr. Hutchinson was able to completely remove the mass which was in a tricky location. Our boy recovered very well from surgery and has just finished his chemotherapy treatments with Dr. Charney. The entire staff has been wonderful and I can't thank them enough.

It was so refreshing to go to an emergency vet that wasn't just interested in taking my money. Came here after our dog was experiencing pain. We felt like we were in great hands the entire time. Got the sense that they genuinely cared about my dog and they gave us a very detailed report of the visit. In addition, they made sure to follow up with us a couple of times after. Thank you ❤

Doug Burgesser

Boundary Bay Vet cancelled a diagnostic procedure appointment for our dog without notice after we had waited 6 weeks to get in. Their attitude boiled down to, "We really don't care about you or your dog". After this I am glad we didn't take our dog to their clinic and hope anyone who cares about their pet avoids this vet.

Michelle Floris

All my dogs have been seen by one specialist or another at BBVSH. My dog Owen was like my child. He became elderly and required a lot of medical care. Dr. Hutchinson was the doctor I trusted to surgically remove some masses he developed. On Owens last day on earth, he developed urinary stones. I rushed him in to BBVSH because he was unable to urinate. Dr. Hutchinson sat me in the exam room, and went over my options. Owen needed a surgery to remove those stones to be able to urinate. He went over all the options and risks in detail with me with kindness. He told me honestly, that he thought that surgery was not the best option as it would be a difficult recovery for Owen. I was welcome to go ahead with the surgery if I chose of course. It broke my heart to hear that. I will never ever forget his genuine honesty and kindness. He truly cared about me, and my dog. But he helped me make the right decision. I wanted to do everything I could. But sometimes choosing what is the best for your loved one is hard. I will never forget that day, it was 3 years ago and I still tear up thinking about it. Dr. Hutchinson is a very kind man. I will continue to trust him with my pets in the future knowing that he cares about what is best for both the owner and the pet.

If it weren’t for the caring and knowledgeable staff at BBVSH my dog wouldn’t be alive today. They are amazing and attentive. I would not hesitate to recommend BBVSH to anyone. My little girl is good as new after her surgery, and it’s all thanks to them.

This is our first time in an emergency animal hospital. We took our kitten in on Feb 1st. Upon arrival, the VA took our kitty in and send me in the exam room. I had no idea what they were doing with my kitty in the back. I waited for 45min. When I asked to see my kitten, she was covered in ultrasound gel, she was given much much pain meds that she could barely walk. And they didn't tell us what they were going to do before they did it all. They charged us $2000 for 24 hrs IV fluids, 2 sets of X-rays and some pain meds. They had to refund me $300 and it was a nightmare. It took them 3 days to fix the credit card machine and said they'd call me back when machine is fixed but never did. They said they sent in the paperwork for pet insurance but also they never did. This hospital is ok. The front desk needs more training. Also, please submit my insurance paper today.

Called them for a harness for my dog, confirmed they had it in stock, confirmed the price, told him I was driving in from Vancouver, arrived, price was more than double, seemed like a bait and switch.

Amazing Amazing Staff and Service!!! I run the Victoria Humane Society and we work with numerous hospitals and Boundary Bay was outstanding and went above and beyond for our baby! they even did his emergency surgery on Christmas Day!!! The communication with staff and doctors was amazing ! We LOVE them!!!

Kat

The best experience I could have hoped for! The moment I stepped into this clinic I received positive perspectives backed with medical evidence and extensive vet expertise. Even though the surgery recommended was high risk as my dog was 14.5 years old, there was no hesitation on what the vet was going to perform in surgery and his backup plans. His communication was easy to understand, confident, and factual. The surgeon, yes the actual surgeon, called me 5 times over 2.5 days to ensure I knew my pet's condition. All the staff at this specialist center are friendly and caring towards my dog and me. My dog is recovering from surgery and coming home today. Thank you Boundary Bay for saving my boy's life!!!

This vet was ok before our experience last night. We sent our Frenchie in for vomiting and diarrhea. They took $150 for triage, but didn’t take the patient info down properly and pass on to the doctor, which requested a sedation. It was actually totally ignored and ended up with a intubation. However, when the doctor called us, she already had a list of further estimate for us instead of paying attention to the triage. The intubation not only made our dog suffer, but also costed us $600+, because of their ignorance. Our dog didn’t even get a diarrhea injection to help with the symptoms. This is unacceptable and I think I’d talk to my lawyer about it.

Lauren V Priest

Fantastic team! Our dog needed a CT scan and emergency surgery and they were absolutely awesome. They kept us up to date every step of the way, were patient with us since when emotional and distraught, and the costs came in under their quote. Vet clinics everywhere are experiencing staff shortages so we were so grateful that they were able to take care of our guy as quickly and caringly as they did. I would absolutely recommend this clinic for emergencies.

In Oct I had to rush my dog to Boundary Bay. I just need to thank the staff that took care of the phone calls, directions, meeting us at the door, the call no pet owner needs to get (We had to put our Big boy down) how patient and understand and kind everyone was. The time they gave us to spend with our dog to say goodbye and checking on us. The Dr. who came in and got down on her hands and knees to administer the medication well I held my dog (he is big so he pretty much was laying on me and then his head on my shoulder) to make sure he knew how loved he was and there was no other choice and how sorry I was but he wouldn't be in pain anymore. What you guys do and how you carry yourself is beautiful. I thank you for everything you did for Oden and my family in a time like this.

Trina Tyler

Dr. Hutchinson and his team are wonderful and very caring. My kitty, Fergie, was in a bad state and she required emergency surgery. From the moment I arrived I felt that the staff truly cared and they acted quickly and professionally. Dr. Hutchinson came into the consult room and went over everything in detail and took the time to answer each of my many questions. For each of the follow-up appointments the staff remembered Fergie and called her by name. I’m grateful for the care and expertise of the staff. A big thank-you to the Boundary Bay Team!

Monday morning at 2am our world stopped and our 1.5 year old French Bulldog started to rapidly lose feeling in his back legs and was in so much pain. We rushed him to the team at Boundary Bay where we found out he needed emergency back surgery and I must say that they are absolutely amazing from top to bottom. The knowledge of the staff and love they showed our boy Cash made this so much more bearable for us. The surgeon was so great he eased minds and did such an amazing job with cash. Cash is now home and doing great. I cannot thank all of you enough for everything you have done for cash and ourselves. If I could give 100 stars I would !!! Thank you thank you thank you !

We were referred to Dr. Hutchinson of Boundary Bay by the Central Saanich Veterinary Hospital on Vancouver Island. Our nearly 2 year old Saint Bernard had been diagnosed with an ACL tear, so we wished to proceed as quickly as possible with surgery so he could get back to being an oversized teddy bear. Within minutes of the referral coming in, they rang us up and booked us an appointment for just over a week later. So we made the trek from Vancouver Island to Langley the morning of our appointment, and as we bring in our Saint, the usual fawning with the staff began (its expected, as Saints are basically toasted marshmallows of love). Dr Hutchinson and his intern were very gentle and sweet with him as they examined his knee and confirmed the terrible news that his ACL was torn. Wishing to proceed, Dr. Hutchinson broke out a whiteboard and DREW diagrams of options, weighing their pros and cons with us, and exactly what he would do in either case of a TTO or TPLO. His expertise was unmatched, and despite the fact that he was clearly busy (we had waited on him due to an emergency that had come in) he took the time to answer all of our questions and concerns thoroughly. We decided to let the expert make the decision on what was best for our young giant boy, and that was that! We went through plenty of paperwork, which was explained in full detail. They let us lead him back through their incredible facility. There were ladies at computers who stopped and reached to pet him as he walked by. We put him in a kennel and said goodbye for the night. I had gotten a little shaken and teary eyed, as my dog is my child and I hated the fact that he had to go through so much discomfort without me there. The staff reassured me that I would receive a phone call stating how it went when they were done, and that I could call anytime after that to receive an update on how he was doing. The call came at 8pm and the surgery was a success. We picked him up the next afternoon, but before they let us see him, they sat us down for more paperwork and detailed instructions for his aftercare, which was smart, as it would’ve been in one ear and out the other had I seen him first. When they brought him out, he was obviously super dopey and goofy, but in great spirits! It took four people to get him in the back of our vehicle, and they treated him with the utmost care. Now when it comes to COST, they provide a very detailed breakdown. We paid ~$6200 for TPLO Surgery, overnight care, medications, and follow up appointments(including X-ray), and medication on discharge. (Sight unseen, on our first phonecall, they estimated $6000 so no surprises!) I honestly can’t thank Boundary Bay enough for the tireless care that the staff put into their practice. We look forward to a positive next appointment and can’t wait to send updates!

Thank you ❤

We are beyond thankful for all the specialist advice, care and surgery from Dr Hutchinson for our Great Dane, Bosun. He was diagnosed with canine osteosarcoma but as a young and otherwise healthy pooch he was a good candidate to become a ‘Tripaw’. Dr Hutchinson rearranged his day to fit Bosun in knowing that time is of the essence with this disease. The surgery (amputation of his rear right leg) was an amazing success. All the staff at BBVSH were amazing. Bosun’s aftercare and following chemotherapy were of the same incredible high standard. He always loved going there. I was always thankful for the written reports we got after every visit. Most visits were very technical in nature, the upmost care was taken to ensure our understanding and every decision was always ours, we were never pushed into doing things we didn’t want to. The reports were invaluable for us to be able to confirm our understanding. They also contained very detailed aftercare instructions, that along with the 24hr support that was available from the hospital enabled Bosun to recover fully from his surgery and quickly return to his normal happy life. Once again, thank you all at BBVSH.

I cannot say enough great things about Dr. Hutchinson, Dr. Charney, Dr. Crawford, and all of the wonderful, caring staff at BBVSH. Our beloved old Husky Shepherd cross developed a malignant tumor in his hind leg. Our regular family veterinarian did not think there was much more he could do, but thanks to BBVSH our beautiful boy managed to be with us for three more Christmases. In the future, I will never hesitate to contact them if any of our pets encounter life threatening illnesses. I love our family vet, but when an illness is beyond his level of expertise I will be at the Boundary Bay Veterinary Specialty Hospital immediately. I would give them 10 stars if I could.

These people are kind , compassionate and very helpful, they saved my cat from agony and pain and I am so grateful for everything they have done for Lexi :) Animal lovers to the fullest and they took very good care of my cat , thank you guys so much

Everyone here is AMAZING. I brought my very sick cat in as an emergency transfer from another vet. She had a pneumothorax and was in really rough shape. The staff were super kind, caring, and responsive. They quoted me for a three day stay, but after two nights my cat was better and was ready to come home - they really did everything they could to get her better and make her comfortable. The communication from the liaisons in the office was fantastic, they even sent me a photo on the first night, which really made me feel so much better. Best vet ever!

Horrific experience. Dog broke her right hind leg. Took her in at 6:00pm on the Saturday of the May long weekend. They examined her, X-rays, etc. Stabilized and bound the leg effecrively imobilizing it. They quoted $12,500 for surgery to repair the leg (with many follow up visit$) and, get this, $7,000 to AMPUTATE. They told us they would not be able to operate until Wennesday and that staying with them would cost $1,200 PER NIGHT in the interum. We got her the hell out of there but not before getting billed for $2,400 for less than a 24 hour stay. Then they had the gall to call us later to tell us they forgot to charge us for a dressing change - $178! Truly mind blowing! We went to Brookswood Veterinary Hospital. They performed the surgery for $1,500 (three 15 minute units compared to Boundart Bay's assertion of a six to seven hour procedure). We went back to Brookswood the next day for a fentynal patch change...no charge, it was included in the original quote. Everyone loves their animals but there's no need to just throw your money away. Shop around.

Awesome doctor with A nice staff but don’t let that fool you. I’ve contacted them 5 times every 3 hours to get the doctors notes to proceed with our dogs neurological problems. Front desks keeps saying “Mailing right now” or “I’ll get the doctor to do that”. Long story short I’ve still not received any advice via email on initial findings. All I was given was A $6000 “vet plan” on what procedures they are willing to do on my dog and yet they won’t send over the doctors initial findings. We’re A kennel club located in BC Canada and this vet doesn’t care about communication. I’m lost for words for this business and that’s why we will be finding A new place to proceed with our dogs “vet plan”. Just horrible service.

I recently took my small dog to Boundary Bay's emergency clinic after hours. My dog suffered a laceration/tear wound on her side requiring staples to close the wound. Dr Jill Thatcher and all the support staff were very lovely, knowledgeable and friendly. The closure of the wound is very neatly done. My dog was patched up quickly and is recovering well!

Linda Bell

An amazing staff and doctors to care for critical and sick animal!. They on more than one occasion gave my girl the individualized attention she needed before, during and after her surgeries. They had a tender and loving manner that was heartwarming. I believe it made all the difference to her recoveries. Thank you so much for all you do every single day!

We had to bring our puppy Debbie to Boundary Bay at the advice of the vet we saw on Christmas Eve that said she needed access to specialists. This was the last thing we felt our family needed with a very recent unrelated trauma. The staff at BBVSH were absolutely next level, working tirelessly through the holidays while all our vets are of course closed, not once did I feel like I was an inconvenience to them. Every single person I spoke to was so friendly and caring. They even sent us photos on Christmas morning of her all dressed up for the festivity. Every person we came in contact with was here for the right reasons and they truly care about your pets well being. They do a great job of explaining everything in layman's terms I couldn't feel an eyeroll behind the phone from anyone to my million questions. The moment the vet spoke to me and gathered some history she had a hunch of what was going on (and my google PhD very much agrees). It sounds like we have a long road ahead of us but they've already set us up with a specialist appointment for January and I'm very certain our puppy is in the absolute best care available. Thank you so much to all the staff at BBVSH for making an emergency visit (over Christmas none the less) as warm of an experience as possible.

Took my 3 yr old dog in to see the neurologist Dr. Gordon yesterday. The Dr and the team were fantastic with Coco. Coco doesn't like going to the vet but the team took their time with him and got him through all the testing he needed to do. Thank you to the team for answering all my questions and being amazing with Coco, we appreciate it.

Thank you to everyone for your amazing care of our dog Zeus.....and special thanks to Dr. Herberts!

We feel unbelievably lucky that our cat Jedrek was referred to BBVSH! We want to say thank you to all of the staff for being so compassionate and caring, and a huge thank you to Dr. Hutchinson for performing his surgery immediately and taking such good care of him. There are truly no words to describe how thankful we are! You made what has been such stressful time for us so much easier, and even with everything going on in the world right now you still were able to provide outstanding care for our boy when he needed it most. You have given Jedrek the opportunity to live a pain free life, and for that we (and Jedrek of course!) will forever be grateful.

Kristin Schumacher

Fabulous caring empathetic team that helped me with my cat that had a myriad of problems and was critically ill. Dr. Paes the internal medicine was caring gentle and thorough and did absolutely everything she could for our cat Ted E. Bear and to help us through an incredibly difficult time.

Took my dog in under an emergency and was met with the friendliest, genuine and professional staff possible. Couldn’t be more nervous with the him being so so scary sick and trying a new place not knowing anything about them. With the vet “stereotype” this can be scary but I’ve never felt so confident and trusting in a clinic before. My dog is back to normal, they broke down cost in such a way where I didn’t feel pressured or guilted into what I needed to do. Obviously he’s my furrbaby and I’d sell my soul and then some to have him healthy and forever so cost isn’t an issue or even a question but not feeling pressured was super helpful during my panic and allowed me to think more clearly. Couldn’t be more thankful for everyone who worked there. My dog is back to his usual pep and I’m so relieved.

Rick Myers

They had me wait 4 hours in their parking lot while they let my dog bleed in a kennel. I finally told them to give me my dog back after they still hadn’t looked at her 4 hours later. My previous dog was treated there for Cancer in 2013 and it was a very different place at that time. This place is obviously poorly run now and I would not take any animal there for an emergency!

Our westie was diagnosed with lymphoma and our primary vet recommended we book an appointment with Boundary Bay vet. We read through the reviews with a grain of salt, knowing they cover many areas of animal care. Through discussions and our primary vet consultations, we decided that we would not be putting our 14 year old boy through chemo. We spoke to the team at Boundary Bay and said that we are looking to discuss with the specialist what our *palliative care options* were as we would not be doing chemo. They told us the vet would discuss all this with us. With this information, we proceeded with our appointment at Boundary Bay. The main issue I have is that when I spoke with the vet, while she was polite and professional, she spent the time telling me what his test results were, our chemo options, the testing that would need to be done in order to determine what type of protocols should be followed, potential outcomes and side effects of chemo. Then she said, it "says you won't be doing any of this and just looking for palliative care" to which I responded, "correct." The options were essentially "your dog will feel like he has a bad flu. Continue with prednisone your original vet gave you, yes there are side effects, those of which you are seeing. Maybe we should reduce the amount. I'll give you some GI protectives and if that doesn't help, you should stop the prednisone." What we were expecting from this appointment, is more information on how we can make him more comfortable during this time, signs to look for when things are turning bad, euthanasia options, normal ADLs, things we should be very concerned about, options for pet loss / grief support, pain management, alternative or complementary care options, nutrition options, home care to make his life easier... None of this was discussed, it was a hot day, because of COVID there were no bathrooms or anything we could use after a long drive to the clinic (I am not blaming them for COVID conditions, just know you'll have to find a bathroom elsewhere and you'll need to drive to get food, or bring your own in case your appointment extends because they would like to run more tests). I was simply disappointed that the meat of the call was on cancer treatment and not much support beyond the " I see you are opting for palliative care" While the patient has a responsibility to ask questions, I don't believe it is the responsibility of the client to ask "all the right questions" when we put our trust in the hands of an expert. I expect the expert to say "have you considered / here are some resources on / these are questions people typically ask..." I took a day off work, and a 1 hour appointment turned into 3 hours (plus 2 hours travel time on each end) with an almost $600 bill. If you plan on working with Boundary Bay for cancer treatment, according to the many reviews, this seems like a good place to go. If you feel chemo is simply not an option, I am 100% confident your primary vet has the expertise and empathy to guide you through this, and I would instead Google "palliative care dog / cat / bunny....near me" and discuss this with your vet. Disappointed with this experience, we found a vet that specialized in end of life care, he came to our home (followed strict COVID protocols) and discussed the options with us. I'm sure the fine folks at Boundary Bay are exceptional with other care your pet may need. I can't speak to those experiences, but if end of life care advice from oncology experts are what you're looking for, you're barking up the wrong tree.

Kerri Andstein

While I do wish my golden never required special treatment from either Dr Elliot in oncology or Dr Harmon in cardiology, I am forever grateful for their compassion and empathy. They have both taken the time to fully explain the relevant conditions and treatment options, even during the challenge of a global pandemic. Dr. Crawford completed a challenging surgery that without a doubt added years onto my dog’s life. It’s really unfair that dogs have to suffer from these types of serious medical conditions, but having caring doctors makes it much easier to manage. Thank you!

The staff at Boundary Bay were incredibly empathetic, professional, and compassionate during one of the worst moments of our lives; our 1.5 year old Bernese Mountain Dog required surgery for a foreign body removal late at night. A huge, and heartfelt, thank you to Dr. Geoffrey Hutchinson for his incredible work on our boy. Thank you again for taking the time to answer all of our tear-filled questions at crazy hours of the day and night.

Im writing this review to let everybody know that I believe these guys to be the best of the best . I have n 8 yo shih tzu who battled an infiltrative lipoma in her rear leg for 6 months with 2 other surgeries done by another vet who butchered her.I changed vets and they immediately referred me to Boundary Bay.Everything that happened with them was upfront, informative and to the point .I want to thank Dr.Crawford and all staff for the care and attention to my dog . It seems any complaint is about cost and yes its costly but I realized that all diagnosis have to be done and our government doesn't have a health plan for our pets so I find out how much things actually cost. So get pet insurance , it sure helped me out. Anyway , thanks Dr Crawford for saving my dogs life and giving me many more years

Unbelievable emergency services and a very professional and caring staff. Unfortunately, we had to put our poor girl Sophie down yesterday June 8 2019. We would like to thank all the staff involved in helping to try to get Sophie healthy again and giving us a few more weeks to spend with her, and a special thank you to all the dogs who donated their blood. We highly recommend this hospital and have already spread the word to family and friends. R.I.P Sophie.

Despite some of the latest(bad) reviews we (West Coast Rottweiler Rescue) will continue to use this hospital. We have found all the vets and staff to be wonderful with our animals, both rescue animals and our own personal pets.

INCREDIBLE, CARING, HIGHLY- . QUALIFIED SPECIALISTS, & STAFF I (unfortunately ????) have dealt with Boundary Bay numerous times in the past two years dealing with my five cats (everything from cardiology, internal medicine, respiratory, and emergency issues). EVERY staff member, liason, emergency doctor, & specialist are caring, kind, patient, respectful and incredibly knowledgeable. Extra thank you's to: Dr Hooi, Rachel, Mara, Dr Mark Harmon, Dr Nielssen, numerous emergency doctors, and many many other staff who have been so kind to our fur-less babies who mean everything to our family. I feel so lucky that we have this caliber of veterinary care available in our community. Many many thanks to all of you. I would recommend Boundary Bay to anyone, and I often do. Sincerely, N Cote

My dog had TTA surgery at boundary bay in Bellingham WA, Dr. Hutchinson diagnosed her with a medial patella lunation and cranial cruciate ligament chronic rupture. Dr. Hutchinson did an amazing job! I will be forever grateful! I found everyone at boundary bay to be very happy and nice people. Which says a lot for any work place! My Lab had her 6 week check up and everything was great. Dr. Hutchinson is the best! Thank you Boundary Bay staff and Dr, Hutchinson! OK this is part 2 of my review I have been taking my dog to Langley B.C. for physio, this has really helped her recover strength in her leg. Glenn and crew really know what there doing! They are very good with animals and my dog and I both really like them. I will continue to take her there for as long as I can weather permitting. Go team Glenn! Selma Starkman and Labrador Mar

We can not thank the staff at Boundary Bay Hospital enough for saving our dogs life. He was run over by a car, torn diaphragm all organs moved up to his chest cavity. We drove 4 hours for emergency surgery. Once we got there at around 1 in the morning we were welcomed. Our dog was stabilized. He had a 3 day stay there. His injuries were beyond what they estimated and he even lost pulses for a while. But the surgeon was able to save him. Our hearts are filled with thankfulness and words are not enough to show our gratitude. He is expected to make a full recovery after a period of healing.

Had to take my dog in as she was a great deal of pain and GI issues. They were very professional and courteous and managed to fit me in quickly on a Friday night when other locations were unable to take us in. Dr. Jill Thatcher was very informative and updated me with the potential plan before proceeding. She also had clear discharge instructions, given verbally and via a printout. I recommend them to anyone and will be going there for future needs.

Linda Outhwaite

My past and present experiences with Dr. Hutchinson and his staff have been nothing but excellent service and expertise. They are very caring and knowledgable. From what I know Dr. Hutchinson is the only vet in BC that can perform Arthroscopic surgery (less invasive surgery). I have brought my 4 legged family to Boundary Bay since Feb 2011 and will continue to do so.

Marilanie Abreo

My dog Bailey has been a patient of Boundary Bay Veterinary Hospital since 2014. She was diagnosed with bilateral elbow dysplasia at this time and had two PAUL procedures performed by Dr. Hutchinson. This month, she also needed TTA surgery for a cranial cruciate rupture in her knee. Dr. Hutchinson once again performed this surgery. Bailey has also been followed by Glenn, Boundary Bay’s physiotherapist, on and off since 2014 for post-operative recovery, as well as to manage her chronic pain and arthritis. This has included hydrotherapy, laser therapy and ultrasound therapy. Bailey has received outstanding care each and every time we have visited Boundary Bay, from the time we are greeted at reception to our appointments, pre- and post-operative care, and physiotherapy visits. Dr. Hutchinson is an excellent and skilled surgeon. He is kind, compassionate, professional, and goes above and beyond to ensure his patients receive the best care available. He not only provides cutting-edge treatments, but also provides comfort to pet owners through his calm/informative approach, confidence, years of practice, and continuing education and training. His surgical team, including Tara, his surgery liaison, is also wonderful. They are generous with their time, and work diligently to ensure pet owners are adequately educated to care for their pets post-operatively. Glenn, Bailey’s physiotherapist, is equally fantastic. He is so skilled in his work, and has helped Bailey tremendously with her quality of life. He is very caring, and puts a lot of effort into making Bailey comfortable despite her fears… even if this means spoiling her with treats! We are eternally grateful to Boundary Bay Veterinary Hospital for the outstanding care they continue to provide for Bailey, and in truth, for saving her life. She is now three years old, and we look forward to many more years of joy for her, thanks to Dr. Hutchinson and his wonderful staff.

Dr Nielssen was absolutely amazing with our girl Bella (a neapolitan mastiff) The love, care and attention that you gave her was well over the top. Right till the end Dr Nielssen always had time to talk, educate and guide us on the best way the manage Bella’s Addison’s disease and other problems. We miss her dearly however there is a sense of comfort knowing that you made her last moments as peaceful as possible. Thank you.

Our kitten had to have a blood transfusion. They were phenomenal from the moment we got there until we left. I wish I could bring my kitten here just as her regular vet. They treat you like they are more than just an animal. And understand what they mean to you. Thank you so much for helping save Tina.

We had the worst news possible. Our Sadie was diagnosed with cancer . She had 2 tumors, one we didn’t even know was there. She is 11 years old and part of our family. We were recommended to Boundry Bay Veterinary Specialty hospital by our vet in Twassawsen. From the moment we got there we were treated with respect and warmth from the receptionist to the doctors. We had Dr. Rowe-Guthrie. She was amazing and very professional. When Sadie had her surgery we were encouraged to call whenever we wanted. They are open 24/7. The care Sadie received was amazing! Our pup is on the mend and I highly recommend Boundry Bay Specialty Veterinary Hospital.

When my dog was diagnosed with cancer I was terrified, not just of the treatment but of the cost. Yes it’s expensive, they are a specialty clinic, but I felt the value was worthwhile. My dog received amazing care by staff who genuinely care about pets and are knowledgeable. This clinic goes above and beyond and took the time to explain every little thing and the email follow up reports are a really nice touch. I wouldn’t hesitate to take my dog here ever again (although hopefully she doesn’t need oncology again!)

Dr. Crawford is, truly, an exceptional veterinarian!!! Walked us through the entire process and guided us on which would be the best surgery for our lil guy(Chewby) based on age, healing and overall contentment. Aside from informing us, he taught us! He's the go-to Doc for your pet!!! Thank you again!!!

We are quite a fortunate family as our Bull Mastiff (Diesel) had a great and healthy ten years and then all of a sudden things started to go south really quickly. Our Vet in Kamloops referred us to the Boundary Bay Veterinary Speciality Hospital for further assessments etc. The team at Boundary bay is nothing short of fantastic. From Glenn and his team in the physiotherapy dept to Dr Hutchinson and Dr. Gordon they all were extremely compassionate, accommodating and understanding. In the end, we ended up putting our Diesel down back in Kamloops. Dr Hutchinson called us a few days later and gave us his condolences. Dr Hutchinson's gesture was beyond what we expected and was a real testimony to the integrity and compassion of this team. Thank you for everything

My dog Walter had a pale gum + blood throw up + weird snoring sound then I went to "Vancouver Animal Emergency" which is near by where I live and they referred me "Boundary Bay Veterinary Specialty Hospital" and they few test and found out that there is a mass under Walter's tongue. Since he was blooding in his mouth need to be watch before the removing mass surgery. Not only they did awesome jobs and they all were very kind and nice. I called them few times to just check up and hows Walter doing and they were super nice to check him and tell me all the questions I asked them. well it could be annoying because I called alot but they were always nice. The removing surgery went well and Walter has been recovering quickly. I am happy and I am highly recommend this place for all dog owners.

My fur son Oliver recently received a very serious diagnosis and was referred to Boundary Bay to see an Internal Specialist for further treatment. Oliver has since seen Dr. Hooi several times and I can't say enough about her and all the support staff at Boundary Bay. Oliver went through many tests on his first visit and Dr. Hooi called me after each one answering all my questions and explaining every little detail. Since then she has been monitoring Oliver’s condition and medications very carefully and even corresponding with me through email on her own time. The exceptional compassion and support they have offered doesn’t change Oliver’s diagnosis, but it certainly makes it easier to handle knowing they are less than an hour away and available to help us 24/7!

The Doctor and nurses at the Boundry Bay vet Hospital were amazing, compassionate and caring, thank u all very much. I know others were waiting - some of it due to us, so sorry and I hope that doesn't detract from your opinion of this amazing facility.

We have a 1 year old rescue puppy, Lucy, who has been ill her entire (short) life. In the one month we have been attending Boundary Bay Hospital, Lucy has been fully assessed, tested and already undergone a helpful medical procedure (performed by Dr. Hooi, Internist). This is something our primary vet was unable to do, and as a result, our dog suffered for 10 long months due to insufficient care. For the first time, our dog is eating regularly, finally growing, playing with her toys and showing a little spark of life. If we hadn't undergone the medical procedure at Boundary Bay, it would be difficult to say what would have happened to our sick, struggling, little dog. As all pet owners know, taking care of an ill pet is an immensely nerve wracking and stressful time. We would like to thank, Jennifer, Boundary Bay's client satisfaction manager. Jennifer helped my partner Crystal with a concern/issue she was having. Jennifer intently listened to Crystal, rectified the situation and, in turn, allowed Crystal to feel content and assured by Boundary Bay's commitment to our dog's ongoing care. Receiving quality care by empathetic professionals makes a huge difference in both the lives of ailing pets and their distressed owners. Sincerely, Adam Ueland

To Dr Hutchinson and all clinic staff a large thank you in providing our bulldog, Rosie the best of care.

Brought our dog in for tplo, she had one leg done at another vet that used a smaller plate and removed meniscus to avoid future problems with it and that leg is great. This was her other leg and needed the same surgery, boundary used a larger plate that you can feel under skin unlike the other and left in the meniscus. The dog is still toe touching and needs another surgery. During our dogs time there the vet mentioned about that other knee, the one that was just done, saying it didn't feel normal and had to re explain that it was just done weeks earlier. Clearly one hand didn't know what the other was doing and not focused on the task looking at other things. That vet is no longer there to answer for this and boundary is a now a training hospital, will never go back not satisfied by service. Failing grade and our dogs lost.

I am very pleased that the Boundary Bay staff reached out and we were able to talk about the experience I had there. The clinic has undergone many changes and restructuring since I was there (for the better it sounds) and they seem quite progressive and open minded in the ways they approach alternative methods that a client might want to explore. My concerns were heard and validated and I am very pleased to hear that they will continue to grown and learn so they can better serve their clients. Thank you for the chat Nicole. I would never recommend this animal hospital to anyone. After my dog stayed the nights at the hospital ($2000) I decided that I was not going to be able to afford the back surgery that was recommended to me for my dog. (I was told the surgery alone would be 10k, this is without aftercare physio and stuff that would have been recommended) I was told by the neurologist that if I wasn’t going to do the surgery I should condsider putting my dog down as he has a slim to none chance of ever walking again. After some research I discovered there is a chance of recovery with conservative treatment, so I took my paralyzed dog home and hoped for the best. I was offered no guidance, help or support from any of the staff at the clinic when I made this decision. My dog made a full recovery with conservative treatment at home with the support of a different, lovely veterinarians office.

“Hotspot from swimming in the lake also known as bacterial infection of the hair follicle” My puppy needed care at 3am and was taken in immediately. My overall bill was average for an emergency vet visit. The staff were friendly while I was overly upset and overwhelmed. I needed follow up medication the next day because my puppy was still in great discomfort and pain it was prescribed immediately. Unfortunately not enough hair was removed at the top portion of her back which prolonged the infection and led too late nights and multiple vet visits. She’s on a steroid, pain medication and a spray antibiotic/steroid.

Unfortunately this was not a good experience. After my cat''s hind legs stopped working, I rushed him to my vet who said it was from blood clots caused by heart problems and his prognosis was very poor. He gave me the card of Boundary Bay Hospital and said if I spent $5000 they could help. Desperate, i rushed with my cat to the hospital and they told me the same dire prognosis. However, the in charge doctor insisted the only solution was for my cat to be euthanized. When I refused, she became aggressive, with another doctor joining in that I was just selfish, that my cat was suffering, and that I would have to sign a form saying I was going against doctor's advice if I didn't have him euthanized. Then they insisted that his pain could only be controlled if he was in the hospital. I said that my original vet helps people control their cat's pain with medication and the response of the hospital doctor was that wasn't true, that he didn't know what to do so sent me to Boundary Bay. I was very vulnerable and just got worn down by the doctors bullying and claims that my cat's pain couldn't be controlled at home, which I later found to be not true. I admitted him to the hospital after I paid them $6,700 which they insisted on. When I got my cat out 2 days later (when I was confident his pain could be controlled at home) they gave me a refund of $100. No surgery but they managed to run up a billl for $6600 in two days. I feel that not only did they take advantage of my vulnerability, they lied to me about the pain aspect. I am shocked by their behavior, as is anyone I have told the story to. That's my experience

Boundary bay oncology department is an absolute joke! The emerg section is good. Expensive but good. Oncology on the other hand is laughable. They charged me $150 for a consult to tell me that there is nothing I can do for my dog with cancer. Nothing. I’m not even a vet, and I feel I am more knowledgeable than them with a few days of research that I’ve done. Complete joke! Avoid avoid avoid. Good luck!

Our Rottweiler had his TTA surgery done 2 days ago. He is already using his leg! We were so impressed with the staff and Dr Crawford who examined him thoroughly and explained to us exactly how the procedure would look like. There will be follow up appointments / xrays to make sure he heals well. Hugo is a large 5 year old rottweiler and he was treated like a baby there. We appreciated the attention and care he received. We left him there with a peace of mind that he will receive best care and he did. Highly recommended.

I am very disappointed with my experience at boundary bay hospital. My complaints with the over night staff and the doctor. I arrived at the hospital at 12am this morning. My cat needed a laceration repair. After speaking to the doctor about what route we’re going to take and my financial issues and she quoted me my bill would be a total of $250-300. She then called me about an hour or so later and said my cat would be good to go in 20 minutes. That ended up being an hour and half. When I called in between the overnight office staff showed me a lot of attitude. Dr Ashton called me at 2:45am to pick up my cat in 20. I called 40 minutes later, they said they were in the middle of wrapping up her arm. I call 15 minutes later and one assistant was confused and the other had attitude saying “I just talked to you 5 minutes ago” and that my “cats not ready we have other animals that need triaging”. Very confusing since they said she was already getting wrapped. The bill was doubled to $540 without my knowledge. They said the initial pain meds they gave her around 2am would last until 9-10am. Apparently they had to administer more pain medication by 4am without my consent which ended up being an additional cost of $240-$290. The office staff showed much attitude. Nothing they said made sense. I called them out on these changes. I asked for a receipt. They did come outside with the receipt lowered by $115 with no explanation. Very sad to experience this while your worried about your pet. Owners beware.

I visited the hospital today with our twin girls (dogs!), one of them needing to see the Neurologist, Dr. Peter Gordon. What a fantastic team making this visit so comfortable, friendly and caring - from liaison to technicians to Dr. Gordon himself. Dr. Gordon spent much time explaining the condition, options and providing his recommendation in a calm, caring and very informative manner. I highly recommend Dr. Gordon and the team.

Unfortunately we got the news after 2 weeks of appointments and tests that our beautiful dog Stoli (turning 5 next month) was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. It was incredibly heart wrenching to hear that news, especially to hear that chemotherapy rarely helps with this type of cancer and we'd be best to just enjoy our last few days with our sweet boy (the median life expectancy after diagnoses was 9 days, and he had no prior health problems). Of course myself and my entire family had many questions, and my brother who was the one who got the awful phone call about his diagnosis was in shock and couldn't remember much about what the oncologist had told him. Our entire family is so grateful for the emergency staff and the way they handled our sweet boy and were able to get the result we had been waiting for for so long, unfortunately they were not what we wanted to hear. But we are grateful for the work & the attention given to him (Thank you Dr.Ashton). Although we became quite unimpressed when we asked if we (my family) could speak to the oncologist who had originally just spoken to my brother, to go over his results again and just explain to us the chances of survival and if there was absolutely anything else we could do to save his life. Dr.Herrera (the oncologist) was short on the phone and sounded quite annoyed by our questions, even once saying "I'm pretty sure I've already answered these questions". We were all in shock over the thought of losing our sweet dog and it felt like she couldn't even give us 15 minutes of her time. There was no condolences, and no compassion when our family needed it the most. I am not saying that her work was bad or she did anything medically wrong, but the bedside manner of dealing with a family who is losing their baby needs to be worked on. Our hopes is by reading this there is a change in the way she communicates with families who are going through this awful process of knowing their pet who just a month before was hiking everyday and playing in the ocean, will no longer be apart of their lives in a few days. Its a subject that should be handled with compassion. We had to say goodbye to our sweet boy this past week and it was one of the hardest things anyone in my family has experienced. I wish I had a more positive review to write about our interaction.

Our 3 year old french bulldog, Cali has had surgery twice now with dr.Gordon. Our poor baby has IVDD disease and her back isn’t good.. when we bring Cali to boundary bay, I sleep better knowing she gets the best care. Dr Gordon is amazing! You can tell that he and the staff are passionate about their jobs. Cali really does get treated like royalty when she’s there. Even though it isn’t cheap to have your pet treated there- that’s what we have too do for our fur babies to get the care they deserve! Thank you to all of you for loving Cali and taking care of our frenchie:)

Compassionate, kind, accommodating and professional. They saved my little guy from a sudden onset respiratory infection that nearly killed him. I was in and out of their clinic for days visiting him until he was strong enough to come home. They set up visits for me in the exam rooms because he was in quarantine and they had to sterilize the rooms every time he was in one. I was always accommodated. He’s with me now because of the efforts of Boundary Bay and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Extremely happy and thankful for Boundary Bay hospital, they saved my dog. They took the complaints and symptoms seriously after another hospital released my dog with no diagnosis.. Boundary Bay found the problem with proper testing and had her in surgery FAST. The aftercare visits with them have been so easy, their communication was immaculate, I was given perfect/easy instructions on how to take care of my dog at home. I really can't say enough amazing things about this place.

My dog Bella was recently diagnosed with cancer. To find out your beloved companion has cancer is devastating. It is also so full of ups and downs. Recently I rushed my dog to ER due to odd behaviour and the fact she may have a bleeding mass. The staff were so amazing. They were patient, kind, compassionate and caring. Dr White was amazing and provided my dog the best care. She kept me informed and eased my fears. I can’t remember everyone’s name but all the other staff caring for her were exceptional too. Thank you to Dr Robinson for speaking to me while Dr Herrera was away. Letting me know what may be going on. As well, to Dr Herrera thank you so much for giving my girl a fighting chance. I have hope and trust I am getting the best care and treatment for beautiful girl Bella. Thank you to all the staff at Boundary Bay.

They’ve taken such good care of my senior dog with cancer (who had surgery to remove it!). They truly consider the animal’s quality of life when recommending treatment options, which is so important. The care they have for the animals is top notch, and the staff are so lovely to deal with (coming from a very nervous dog owner who calls hourly for updates). Dr. Crawford and the whole team have held our hand/paw throughout the ordeal and have gone above and beyond. They’re well worth the drive, and well worth every penny.

We absolutely love the staff at Boundary Bay Veterinary Hospital. Our dog had an emergency, a week before our wedding, and unfortunately did not survive the night. The staff we prompt, courteous, respectful, and caring. They did everything they could to extend his life, as well as support us in the hours that followed. They should nothing but love for the most important part of our family, and we are thankful for everything they did. We will continue to bring all of future Fur Babies to Boundary Bay.

Jerri-Leigh Goldade

Recently we had to have surgery on our miniature dachshund for a herniated disc. Dr. Geoff Hutchinson and the entire staff were nothing short of exceptional! This is an amazing veterinary specialty hospital with extremely knowledgeable, caring and compassionate doctors and staff. We highly recommend them for any special treatment needed for your fur babies! They took wonderful care of our "Poppie" even showing us helpful physio therapy to aid in her recovery.

This animal hospital is the worst hospital I have ever had the displeasure of stepping foot inside. My advice: STEER CLEAR! The customer service is beyond abysmal and do not get me started on the heavy manager. Please take my advice and go to an establishment who values their patients.

If you need a TTA surgery make sure you price out other options. This joker tried charging $7500.00 for a surgery that every other reputable vet hospital was between 2-3k. Same surgery and clearly trying to take advantage of pet owners who love their pets.

If it wasn't for all the hard working staff at Boundary Bay Veterinary Specialty Hospital we wouldn't have our sweet baby Mollee. What started as a little bump on her paw we first thought was a sliver, after having it removed we were told it was cancer.... our worst fear. The staff quickly reassured us they would do everything they can to keep our little girl with us. Found out it hadn't spread.. phewf! Next was to find out how to get it all removed while hoping to keep her leg. They were able to reconstructive surgery! With a little rearranging of paw pads she was able to keep her leg... YAY!! She's also been getting a vaccine that we hope will help it not to come back in the future from the oncology department. Our dogs are our children and we felt everyone there treated her that way too. We cannot thank all of the staff enough, you literally took the worst time in our lives and made it more bearable. Mollee just finished her last shot for 6 months, they sent her away with a little bandana, toy and a certificate which of course made me tear up. THANK YOU to all Boundary Bay staff we are forever grateful!

Yes, it is Boundary Bay "Veterinary Specialty Hospital" . MONEY MAKING HORROR PLACE not a hospital. DON'T GO THERE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, IF YOU LOVE YOUR PET. YOUR PET COMES LAST there.

Stephanie Boeke

So upset that they want you to fill out a form outlining how much you are willing to pay before they even take your baby in. I was basically hysterical upon arrival. Then when I was waiting to see my dog to say goodbye they came in with a debit machine before I could even see my baby. Compassion or money....this place is ALL about the money.

Walter Rawlinson

Probably the worst experience I've ever had with any business. Was referred to Boundary Bay Vet because my older dog was having trouble breathing and my regular vet could not diagnose the issue. Went to Boundary Bay and after quick initial visit, they said they needed to do an MRI, Endoscopy, Ultrasound etc which would all be $4000. They did tests, took my $4000 and then a few days later results were all "inconclusive" and that they would send to the test results to my regular vet and it was up to my regular vet to figure out what the problem was. (These are supposed to be the specialists who are supposed to diagnose the issue and then put in place a treatment plan.) 2 months later, after several calls begging for info - still no test results or Dr's notes to my vet. Spoke to some manager and she refunded me $500 for the delay (I didn't care about the $) but still didn't provide test results. A week later the test results came in to my vet but still no Dr's notes. My dog then died the following week. This is the worst place to bring your vet in the entire universe. They will take your money and then just ignore you and say they are "understaffed". Do not take your pet here under any circumstances.

The entire staff at the Boundary Bay Specialty Veterinary Hospital have been nothing short of exceptional with the animals I have brought there. Dr Geoff Hutchinson was fantastic in conceptualizing and completing experimental surgery on my kitten whose face was mangled after she had been stepped on by a cow. Dr Hutchinson's innovative care not only saved her life, but also gave her a high quality of life. I am forever grateful to this exceptional and professional team. I would not hesitate to bring any animal to them in the future. Thank you all SO MUCH!

I brought my dog here shortly after being diagnosed with cancer. Initially I wanted to ask about a procedure her regular vet had recommended that would help with her cancer treatment. The vet, Sarah Charney, would not comment on the procedure stating "I cannot comment because I don't do the procedure myself". Well you're an oncologist, you've heard about the procedure, I stated on the phone when making the appointment I was looking for a consultation regarding this procedure, and I was booked in. I was puzzled she wouldn't even talk to me about it. Months later we actually had the following conversation: Charney: are you still thinking about doing the procedure? Me: no I have decided not to. Charney: well to be honest I have not heard of that procedure having very good results anyways. Me: .....ok thanks... I found her to be often very rude, appeared disorganized, would tell me to get ultrasounds and not even look at the results. She would claim the ultrasounds were not sent over, and then after I would confirm that they were sent, she would say "oh well it wouldn't change her treatment plan anyways". And so why did you order the ultrasound? This happened 2x. She would ask me to make decisions regarding what type of chemo medications to use. I appreciate being informed and given options but her rudely pressuring me to make a decision didn't help. She's the expert and should be making a recommendation at the very least. She would often just repeat herself over and over, refuse to answer any questions, often stating "I don't know" or "it's impossible to say". It seemed like she was unable to answer even simple questions and preferred people to drop their dog off for a quick chemo injection and be on their way. Overall it was an awful experience to go through during an already difficult time. I would strongly suggest people stay away from Sarah Charney, oncologist.

Dear Dr Gordon, Ruby turned 10 years old today! I want to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt gratitude to you! Thanks to your excellence, Ruby and I were able to celebrate her 10th year but taking a walk at the beach this morning. Ruby started to decline late into her sixth year and at several points in the last four years, could not walk for more than a few meters before falling over. Today she is 10 years old and can walk for a solid 45 minutes! She drags her right paw and has mild bowel control issues. However, beyond those minor set backs, she is a happy, hungry, independent senior pug lady who still gets the zoomies on a regular basis! So thank you! Not only for your amazing work and skills but for always showing up in a kind and courteous manner and for always taking the time to explain everything and calm down anxious puppy parents! You are the best! Thank you also to your wonderful team who never fail to excel at customer service and warmly welcome their fur patients. Kindest Regards, Elli Klaus

Boundary Bay went above and beyond caring for our pup during a scary emergency. They were always available to answer our questions and to check up on our pup. They were very reassuring during a stressful moment in our lives

Yes the staff are lovely. But we are completely disappointed with how our dog was completely misdiagnosed. Yes these vets are board certified but most of them lack experience. So beware. Thank god we went to other vets to get other opinions. If we hadn't our dog would be dead. Oh and don't forget the bill. Can you say second mortgage.

Very disappointed in this clinic. My girlfriend just left there with her puppy that had a small cut on her back (less then 1” long, we measured it) from crawling under a fence. I told her to go there because she was very close to the clinic and have it looked at by the vet. After waiting for 45 minutes they took her dog in. They called her about 30 minutes later and said it would be about $1200 for the repair. My girl friend couldn’t believe what she was hearing. They told us the dog didn’t require stitches because they weren’t deep enough but she would put a staple in just to be safe and close the wound a little bit. My girlfriend called me and told me this and I was in shock. I recently had spindle cell carcinoma (cancer) removed on my American Eskimo dog. It was a four hour procedure and major surgery that required 36 stitches afterwards. The total surgery, the consult, all the follow up, medicine and removal of all the stitches was $1200. And they were trying to charge this much for a tiny little abrasion that was less then 1” and didn’t require stitches or anything! My girlfriend went back in and explain this to her and then she said “ OK I’ll do it for about $500” The fact she was trying to overcharge by $700 is ridiculous. My girlfriend explained she had recently been laid off the week prior due to COVID-19 and had no income at this particular time and asked if she could do it for $300 and that she could borrow from her mom. The vet said she would not do that. my girlfriend ended up taking the dog and leaving, now she is attempting to help the dog on her own after paying a $150 fee for the visit! My girlfriend ended up leaving in tears down $150 and they did nothing for her. I understand they have to make money and they’re a business but at a time like this with all the problems going on in the world you would think the clinic and the veterinary doctor would help her out especially after charging $150 plus tax and doing nothing. The vet said her charge is $176 an hour, and even though she didn’t require any medicine or anything else she wasn’t willing to do it for The $300? You would think she could give her a break on the labour at least to try to help the dog and a owner who clearly was in a tough position. Very Disappointed and definitely will never go back to this clinic for any reason. Daniel & Amanda

Simple, our Dog Bella would not be alive today if it were not for the amazing team at Boundary Bay. Thank you Dr. Nielsson for all your help.

Our Golden Retriever, Zoe, has been to Boundary Bay since she was 10 weeks old. Her first operation was done by Dr. Hutchinson and recently just had another done by him. I was given only two options for Veterinary services for her last operation, but didn't like the fact I didn't know who we were going to. I called Boundary Bay and they said they perform the surgery needed. They were very accommodating to us, as we live out of town. I had x-rays done at my local vet and sent down to Dr. Hutchinson. He was able to view the issue and allowed us to come down at the beginning of the week to take measurements and performed the surgery in the next two days. All the staff were very friendly and professional. All questions asked were answered. As Zoe is due to have hip replacements done.....we will be back. Thank you for being so caring.

Cassandra

My dog was grabbed by a cougar and after 2 other vets told us she would be okay, Boundary Bay discovered 30% of her skull was crushed and fragments in her brain. She somehow surprised us all and made it through the surgery and getting the best care there.

Jane Dabrowski

We received care for our French Bulldog Stella who ended up having a brain tumour. It was devastating news for us, but the compassion and understanding that Dr. Drury and the whole team had for us was immeasurable. They guided us through the process, explaining and listening to us all the way through our journey...... Thank you so much I highly recommend this hospital for any of the services they provide, in addition to all of the above, they were able to assess and help Stella with her pain quickly as they have all of the necessary equipment on site. Thank you to the whole team at Langley Boundary Bay Veterinary Hospital we truly appreciate how you handled everything in our time of grief.

Boundary Bay saved my Frenchie’s life. He spent three weeks in intensive care and there was a real question whether he would make it. They were so kind and compassionate and didn’t give up on him. Dr. Crawford and Dr. Nilsson did an amazing job, as did the other doctors and technicians who cared for him. They never complained when I called for updates. I can’t recommend them more highly for their ability and client care.

T R

I cannot recommend Boundary Bay Veterinary Specialty Hospital. Dr. Charney and Dr. Hutchinson and the Team are incredible. I have taken both of my dogs (Charlotte and Snoopy) to the clinic and every visit has been excellent. The Team are extremely knowledgeable, empowered and I appreciate everyone takes the time to connect with my dogs. Dr. Charney has been treating Snoopy for his lymphoma for almost two years. Snoopy couldn't be doing better, he charges through the woods, over logs, and up and down the hills in the snow! Most people who know he has lymphoma say you'd never know by looking at him or they simply forget! When Charlotte ruptured her cruciate and needed surgery there is no other place I could have imagined taking her. Dr. Hutchinson was fantastic and answered all of our questions. The Surgery Team was absolutely wonderful. I had a number of questions during her recovery and they were all welcomed. I was so grateful they were there to answer my question at 3am when Charlotte needed more medication and I wasn't sure what to do. I love their approach that any follow-up questions/appointments are included as they want to ensure the best outcomes for their clients. Glenn Pepito and the Physio Team were amazing and helped Charlotte speed up her recovery and get strong. I was a little worried that Charlotte would be a little difficult during her overnight and the lovely Surgery Liaison put my worries to rest when she said Charlotte was so adored that I was lucky to be able to take her home! I hope anyone who needs exception care finds there way to BBVSH. After I recommended BBVSH to a friend when her dog was sick she said she was so happy to have found them. She said 'they were really professional, honest, and not over priced at all. A very good experience!' Thanks again to the Team for taking such great care of my little guys! Teresa

We brought our 16 year old cat in for emergency treatment because he was having trouble breathing. I called in advance and the team was amazing, they were waiting for us and took him in right away. Unfortunately due to age, kidney and heart issues, we had to put him down. It was a very difficult decision and I would like to share how caring and patient the Doctor and all the staff were with us. They explained everything, listened patiently to all our stories about Tigger and never rushed us. Also the room was comfortable and pleasant, not sterile at all. Thank you too all the staff at Boundary Bay Vet for your care and patience during this most sad time for us.

I live in Northeastern BC but I have travelled 1200km to Boundary Bay, twice, so Dr Hutchinson could perform TTA. Originally referred to a hospital in Edmonton, through research I chose a different surgery and chose Boundary Bay as the place to go. The staff were wonderful in handling my overly exuberant and difficult bulldog and Dr. Hutchinson's explanation of everything presurgery was comforting. I would highly recommend their services to any one.

Traci B

If there was an option for no stars, I would have picked that option. This veterinary clinic staff has no compassion for the animals, are all about the money, not your beloved animal and they overcharge. They tried to charge me $1900+ for something another veterinary clinic charged me 600.00. They did do some tests on my dog and sent me an email the next day advising me to take him back to a vet if his behaviour continued for more than two hours, Getting this email the next day was not very helpful and they did not verbally give me this advise. My puppy was in a lot of pain and they gave him meds to reverse the painkillers the vet that sent me to him gave him, leaving my poor puppy in a lot of pain. I would never recommend this clinic to anybody. Very dissatisfied!!
