We love the caring staff, excellent service and professionalism. They accommodate working pet-owners, consultations are also possible "after regular working hours" or on weekends, which is great. Fees and costs are explained and are transparent. The staff and vets are very caring towards our cats, interact gently, are familiar with their names, and conditions, and encourage the cats to be comfortable in the office surroundings. Information is relayed in a timely fashion; vets and staff will return phone calls, explain procedures, tests and medication options, which is much appreciated.

I moved from Edmonton a little over a year ago and we searched around for the right veterinary practice. I have worked as a tech assistant/vet receptionist as well, so I knew what I was looking for. We actually went to a different clinic first before finding Ambleside. The staff are excellent - knowledgeable, friendly and incredibly considerate. We have seen several different vets here and they're all wonderful. They are very informative and also don't try to wrack up a huge bill. I have 3 dogs and wouldn't want to take them anywhere else. I highly recommend.

Dr Wilke & Dr Sang are incredible. Carla Wilke goes well above and beyond to help answer questions and explain how to best care for your animals. She is so patient with or timid dog! While it can be pricey (like most vet clinics), I would argue this one’s worth it! Dr Sang helped us say goodbye to our 18 year old pup and made his passing as peaceful and compassionate as she possibly could. Both vets are always willing to talk further on the phone if you have concerns or issues. Not to mention the front staff are great - specifically awesome experiences with Zoe and Thao! Thanks for helping all our animals!

I love Dr Carla Wilke. Her bedside manner, knowledge and willingness to listen is stellar. She has a wonderful way of explaining why she feels the treatment plan is what is best. I treat as holistically as I can and she is so respectful and supportive of that, supporting that with acupuncture and TCM. The reasons I am not giving this clinic a 5 star rating is because I have had too many emails and voicemails fall through the cracks and not be returned or returned very late (which when dealing with a sick dog in pain just doesn't work for me), and because one of the vets allowed their dog to roam off leash throughout the clinic during one of our appointments which for a reactive dog (like mine) is awful so waiting in the waiting room was incredibly stressful. I can't imagine too many sick dogs would appreciate a random dog approaching them either. But if you are looking for wonderful care for both your dog and you, Dr Wilke is definitely it!

My calico 13 year old cat Molly was missing for weeks and came home with a huge hole in her backside. I tried to get her into 5 vets on the North Shore and no one could look at her immediately or even take a quick look at her. She was near death. Ambleside Animal Hospital took her in immediately and discussed her health and immediate procedure she needed with me. The $ was extremely reasonable and she is in top shape hunting mice etc. and this is 2 years later. The Hospital has amazing staff and it is very clean. I am so thankful.

So far so good! I saw Dr Wilkie for my rescue dog. Her approach was very gentle and clear. I have left the VCA animal clinics as I started running into issues with how their clinics are run. I’ve had 3 dogs in 24 years and have been to a number of vets, and I know a bad business when I find it. Thank the heavens for Ambleside animal hospital. They seem to have have their stuff together and it seems to be more about the animal care as a first priority rather than scamming clients into expensive tests that reveal nothing. The environment in the office is very professional at Ambleside, and that starts even with your initial phone call to the receptionists. Even the receptionists care! How refreshing! Phone calls aren’t rushed, and there’s no unnecessary attitude over the phone. I really like this place and will continue to take my pets here. Thanks guys!

We have been going to Ambleside Animal Hospital for almost 30 years if not longer. My 18 year old cat was recently diagnosed diabetic and we almost lost him. He lost the feeling in his hind legs and 50% of his body weight. At the age of 18 and his medical distress we thought for sure we'd be putting him down. Dr Booth and his team literally brought our beloved 18 year old back to health and taught us how to accomplish this at home ourselves. Norman the cat is now running, jumping, catching mice and purring again!! He regained all his strenghth back in his hind legs and is on the mend!! It is astounding to us that Norman could be so sick and the make such a come back!!!! This cat is our whole world as he has been with me since I was 17 and he was 5 weeks old. Since, we had a couple issues we had to take him in for and I can't say enough good things about every single person I had interactions with. 1) Dr. Armstrong quoted us double the surgery cost compared to another vet. The surgeon was the same person. 2) My cat got new injury in the care of Dr. Armstrong. She pushed us to cast his leg without any x-ray taken, in what we think an attempt to hide his injury. Unethical clinic. Stay away. Two years ago I brought my cat here for re-bandage of his front paw. After the re-bandage was done, Dr. Armstrong told us that she found out our cat's back right leg was fractured. We asked her how she could tell without taking any x-ray. She made a gesture with her hands like she was breaking a baguette in half and said "I heard a crackling sound". Apparently she cracked every bone in my cat to find out his right leg was fractured? She gave my cat anesthesia during the procedure (re-bandage of his front paw) and no x-ray was taken that day. X-ray taken 2 days ago in another animal hospital showed no fracture. Dr. Armstrong insisted that we put a cast on his leg. We didn't believe her and thought it was a money-grab. After we went home, we checked with the other animal hospital and confirmed there was no fracture in the back leg. I examined his both legs in details and there was no swelling. Both legs looked the same. My cat was so drugged he did not move until a day later. Except the second day after seeing Dr. Armstrong, the right leg started to swell up. We took our cat to another vet for surgery. They said it looked like there was bite marks /puncture wound (after shaving off his fur) and the fracture was right in his ankle and it was impossible to go back to 100%. We were devastated and focused on taking care of the cat for the next year. He is back to his happy self now but his right leg never healed properly. Last note, Dr. Armstrong quoted us $6,000 for surgery and another vet quoted us for $3,000. And the surgeon was the same person.

After being a Pet Owner for pretty much my whole life, lets just say I have visited my far share of Animal hospitals. In my option I could not have found a better clinic! I had just moved to town and meet another pet owner which their dog had the same condition as my mine. She recommended Ambleside Animal Hospital because they always take such good care of her pet. I always get the same Veterinarian, which knows my whole fur family very well. she never rushes a visit with the animals, you can tell she really cares. I am always able to drop in a pick up all my dogs different food (5 dogs and 4 different types of Dog Food) and treats. Anytime I have an emergency they always have time to see my Pets and never recommend any unnecessary procedures or "funny charges". I love this clinic and I can not express it enough. The office staff are wonderful but the vet care was very disappointing. My dogs tumour was misdiagnosed and cancer spread throughout his body. If it had been caught he probably would have had several more years of life. Too many vets in the office who don't seem to communicate with one another properly. They do not take time to read the files carefully or monitor the dogs health. Unfortunately my dog will die. I write this so that this doesn't happen to someone else. RID: 64449

Reposting since my review was deleted. When we first went to Ambleside we received exceptional service, they really went above and beyond for us. Afterwards, they asked us to give them a good review since they had recently had a complaint regarding Dr. Irwin losing her temper on another client. Since we received such good care we didn't even think twice about giving her a glowing review, when in reality we should have. Shortly after I originally left this review, a new review was posted that contradicts mine. This leads me to believe that this is a pattern for Dr. Irwin, and I'm sure it won't be long before she receives another complaint. A quality vet shouldn't have to repeatedly ask for good reviews in order to compensate for previous bad behaviour. Do not take your pets here if you want consistent care for your animal. You will probably have a good experience a few times, and then afterwards Dr. Irwin will complain how much work caring for your animal is and insist that you seek care elsewhere. A few weeks ago, on Friday night, our dog collapsed from his heart failure and we brought him to the emergency, where they informed us that our dog, Timmy, has just a few months left with us. Once Ambleside was open again on Monday we thought we would get his records sent over and ask a quick question about his meds that Dr. Irwin had already prescribed him. Saige informed us that Dr. Irwin was too busy with appointments to call us (which was fine we know there is other patients and we always wait for her to contact us when she's free). However, she continued by saying if you pay $96 she can call you in two hours. You're either too busy to speak with a client or you're not. It's so unfortunate that they are prioritizing clients who can afford to pay almost $100 for a two minute phone conversation, rather than prioritizing the health of our dog. When I expressed my disappointment Dr. Irwin responded with how much work it would be for her to call us, she would have to study Timmy's chart and spend 20 minutes with us on the phone. When in reality we only had a question about medication she administered, which we ended up having to ask the emergency vet, who responded in two minutes. Dr. Irwin furthered by informing us to seek care elsewhere for Timmy. She had zero compassion and did not once ask how Timmy was doing. They also brought up that Dr. Irwin supposedly gave us two free consultations already on June 8th and July 17th. We looked at our call logs and on June 8th we did not speak with Dr. Irwin as she was busy and didn't call us back until July 17th, where we then had a conversation that lasted for 5 minutes and 1 second. Dr. Irwin also pointed out that there is a nation wide shortage of vets right now, yet she has no problem telling us to find a new one when Timmy has just a few months left. Thankfully the emergency vet answered our question about medication free of charge, but we are still stuck with finding a new vet for Timmy. Again, take your pets elsewhere as they will turn their backs on them when your pet needs them the most.

My kitten had gotten an eye infection, and as a new owner I was worried about where to take him -- I had the most amazing experience at Ambleside Animal Hospital. Not only were they able to squeeze me in for a last minute appointment that same day, but every staff member has been so kind, caring and compassionate. My kitten has felt so at ease with them. They are great at ensuring your pet is feeling safe and as comfortable as possible. They also frequently check up on how your pet is doing via text, which is so savvy! I have been going to this clinic for almost 20 years, and I am so disappointed to see the new vets have such poor manners with clients, not wanting to make time for questions, really bad animal handling skills, and inappropriately dealing with issues when they come up without the owners consent. While I would have recommended this clinic in a heartbeat before, due to the new vets such as Doctor Irwin and Doctor Niegos I would recommend anywhere else now. So disappointing because we love Doctor Booth.

We have been taking our dogs there for the past couple of years and have been overall happy until today. Our dog was unfairly treated as vicious and muzzled and then couldn’t be looked at because she obviously was very uncomfortable with the muzzle and wouldn’t sit still to be examined. Following that the vet was so unnecessarily rude and condescending towards my wife when debriefing her for no reason and she attempted to blame us or others for the lack of sedation... I would never want a vet to be harmed but to assume the worst upfront of our dog without even attempting to be gentle and calming when this is what vets are trained to do doesn’t say much about the vet. We obviously still had to pay full price for the appointment even though we didn’t get the full service. We won’t be seeing her (Irwin)again. There are good vets including Dr. Wilkie who I would recommend. The bad review is only for Dr. Irwin being part of that hospital.

I am so endlessly happy I've chosen the Ambleside Animal Hospital for my shy rescue dog after a bad experience at another clinic on the North Shore. I felt comfortable and welcomed by the staff right away and so did my dog. I was so surprised how good he was with Dr. Cathy, as he is absolutely shy and scared of strangers. But she was so patient , nice and read his body language. She's amazing. She called to check in how my dog is doing and she as well as the front desk have always been available for questions and help.It feels good to know they are gonna take the best care of my dog in the future and I would 100% recommend this clinic.

I took my very sick 4-month old puppy, Kaia, to Ambleside hospital late last night as her health was declining rapidly - they were able to squeeze me in. Dr. Liz Sang was very thorough and helpful. She was also straight forward that Kaia needed a specialist's care as soon as possible. Although Kaia is still in recovery, she is in much better spirits today after spending the night at Canada West. I returned today to purchase new puppy food for her (puppy development) as this was recommended to me and it is evident Kaia needs it. I feel so regretful that i took my kitty to this place! My kitty fell off the stairs and i took it to this place he was just scared and in a fight and flight mood which got me really scared because i did not had enough experience with pets. I took him here and we as family all were terrified they put us through hell! First of all they use the opportunity to charge us so much unnecessary money. And because i was scared and i was in a vulnerable position i did not knew what to do or who to trust i just wanted my kitty to be okay. They scared us so much which ended up me paying so much money because i thought there was something wrong with him. They even send us to emergency hospital which costs us few hundred dollars more!! I brought the kitty home even though they scared us so much that he is in a serious danger and his chest are collapsed!! And they wanted us to do more stuff that costs us money i refused to pay more i brought the kitty home right away he started playing and less than 48 hours he was perfectly fine like before and completely recovered! I was so in shocked when i saw him all well too soon i was really happy so grateful but the psychological process this clinic put us through and scaring us sooo much when there was absolutely nothing wrong with him and he was only so scared of the fall and had hard time breathing because he was in a panic mood. They put us through so much emotional trauma to make us pay for what they asked us. Few days later i was so angry so i wanted to talk to the doctor and manager to question them about how they treated us and explain to me why they charge us so much I could not believe my ears!!! The doctor who was the manager too was so rude that i was shocked I never ever received such a service from anyone. She could not answer my questions and when i was keep questioning her about how they did things with my cat and the changes she told us she told me to Shut up ! And then i was so angry that i asked to talk to the owner she told me that she won’t let me to talk to the owner and hung up i kept calling they refused to pick up. And because of covid we are not allowed inside. This place is only after your money, even though they act like they care they really don’t. They charge more than other places and the doctors are horrible and rude. Only the staffs are nice and welcoming. I will never let myself to be fooled by people like this. I now take my cat to park royal animal hospital and i am so happy with them. They are fair and their prices are really good! I recommend thinking twice and checking other vets before you take your pet here. This place is only for business and emptying people’s pocket.

He did the necessary tests and medications and hydration.He explained what was likely happening and that it might happen again. This place used to be great maybe 10 years ago. Now I would say avoid it at all costs. A result of expanding means loss of quality for increased quantity. Too many cooks in the kitchen means poor communication, terrible patient notes and horrible service. One of the things I loved about this place was was getting help with insurance claims...until I realized they would tell me they had sent it in when they hadn’t, or writing the correct information on my claim forms. This costed me hundreds over their mistake...and the end result? The vet raising her voice on me, saying im human, im overworked, im tired of talking to 40-50 people a day and I make mistakes, without any attempt to fix her mistake. Her lack of proper patient documentation, meant she tested my dog for nothing, and because she didn’t document it, now she is saying if she goes back and corrects it, it is fraud. When it became clear the fault is her lack of proper patient documentation, she started saying she wanted nothing to do with my dog’s case, she said I tried to refer you to a specialist and you kept refusing. I said when? Why did you then conduct the tests charge me hundreds and then refer me? She then changed her words saying you weren’t here for me to refer you, there was nothing wrong with your dog and you thought there was, despite my showing videos during previous appointments of the abnormal breathing. And she had nothing to say other than “I’m done” and hung up because she knew she had lied. I am terribly sorry a place that was full of love for pets has turned into a money making machine with overworked doctors without concern for pets since they cannot properly keep records to actually follow through with animal’s ongoing problems. Dr. Irwin was the reason I had actually stayed here despite all the mess for years, but she just proved she is the same.

I have been going to Ambleside Animal Hospital since 2008, and I don't have Pet Insurance. My two Yorkies are my children and spoiled rotten. I would not trust them with anyone but Dr. Booth. I have moved out of the area since 2009 and still I make the drive to W. Van to see him. He actually tells me I don't need this or that.... He is very very knowledgeable and explains treatment plans. The health and well being of my pups is very important to me and no one has unlimited funds, and because the way he deals with me, I can trust that the money I am spending is going towards their well being. That is priceless, knowing that based on his advice I did the best thing for my pups and there is peace of mind. When I have left my pups there for surgery, they would call me the moment it's done. Dr. Wilkie always calls. Peace for mind is what I would say about this place. Thanks to everyone at the hospital.

Dr. Booth, Dr. Wilke and their staff at Ambleside Animal Hospital are wonderful. 9 years ago we got our 1st dog who happened to have parvo virus. Their care and support saved our pup. We have not gone to any other clinic since. I have experienced most if not all Drs at Ambleside. They are all great! They take their time with you and don't rush you. The front staff are helpful and down to earth animal people. I do not hesitate to refer Ambleside to anyone for their pets health care. We have our 2nd dog as a patient with Ambleside now.

Last Friday I arrived without an appointment at the Ambleside Animal Hospital with our 11 year old Labradoodle. Bella had not been her usual bouncy self and had been on & off her food a few different times in the past weeks. Dr. Liz Sang was able to see her almost immediately. She listened to my concerns, asked some questions and then gave Bella a physical. She suggested that we start with blood tests which quickly confirmed her initial thought when she had physically examined her... Bella was anemic. The Blood test also indicated that several other blood markers showed a concern. An ultra sound suggested there was fluid in her abdominal cavity. It was quickly decided that an X-ray would be necessary...it confirmed that Bella's spline was bleeding into her abdomen...suffice it to say that Bella's situation was serious and required immediate action! I cannot tell you how grateful I was for the time and compassion that Dr. Liz provided to me and my son. She gave us the facts, reviewed the pros/cons with us and then left us to discuss the options. We felt confident and hopeful when we made the decision for Bella to have surgery. This decision was made even sweeter because Dr. Booth who wasn't suppose to be in the office on Fri. had popped in and then agreed to stay and do the surgery. Thank you! Thank you! My pooch went to Ambleside for urgent care last Saturday, undiagnosed and very sick. He had been examined by 3 other vets at Burrard Hospital having spent the previous 24 hrs there receiving supportive care. Symptoms persisted after he was discharged and I decided to take him to Ambleside during regular business hours using their drop in service for second opinion. Dr. Irwin found the issue right away. I wasted hundreds of dollars on diagnostics trying to figure what was wrong at Burrard hospital. It turns out I just needed an experienced vet who knew to examine his mouth area carefully - Dr. Irwin found an infection under his tongue which was making him sick, unable to eat or drink, and causing him significant discomfort. Three days into antibiotics and the symptoms have subsided and my pooch is back to his happy little self. I'm very happy with Ambleside Animal Hospital - which btw came highly recommended by three other dog owners.
