What a wonderful, caring staff at this clinic. They took our aged cat, even though not one of their patients, on a Saturday afternoon. We knew we had to put her down, but the caring of the vet and assistants was unsurpassed. And the charge was a quarter of what the Prince Edward Pet hospital cost us a couple of years ago. They deserve more than five stars.

My girlfriend and I had a sick old ferret we were looking to have put to sleep. We live in Mississauga, and everywhere we called would do it for close to $300 or more. Northumberland quoted us less than $100, so we drove 2 hours to have the procedure done there. I'm so glad we did. The vet was fantastic, she talked us through everything and the procedure was done quickly and painlessly. At the end, we were only charged around $35, around $150 cheaper than anywhere in the GTA I called. She helped us make the final decision and reassure us we were making the right decision. I would recommend this clinic to anyone who wants good quality work done for ferrets or any animals for much cheaper than you get in the city.

Our experience at Northumberland vet was amazing! We were only in the area for the weekend and called them about our new puppy who was experiencing some concerns. They told us to come in right away even though we aren't regular patients and were incredibly accommodating and efficient. We will definitely be back if we ever need on our weekend visits to the cottage. I highly recommend this vet!

My little man ????❤️ finnigan was hit by a car and the lady and my dad drove him there he made it thru the next 2 day but his heart didn't want me to do the surgery. Lex and his wife were so supportive and understanding, I could come to the vet at anytime and spend time with him. So so nice and trustworthy. Also the clinic is outstanding, a must see. Love you finnigan till I meet you again.

We buried my mother's dog today after her concerns with her dog's health were brushed aside by this clinic. Her dog, clearly in distress, was sent home and told to wait. When they 1st called saying it was an emergency, there was nothing available for days. By the time they took it seriously, it was too late. She died as she was being prepped for surgery. As a family we are heartbroken.

I initially went to the vet closest to my home when Oliver was hit by a vehicle, but was refused care because in the panic I had forgotten my purse. I called this hospital and recieved the best care ever.. The staff was not focused soley on payment but rather on ensuring my pets survival. Thank you to everyone here for caring about the health and well-being of Oliver.. This is the best of many veterinary hospitals we have ever been to.

I have been going to this vet for 28 years but I won't go back. The original reception staff is amazing but since the new corporation took over every animal has become a debit machine. I took a dog we adopted in for her shots and an examination so we could make a date to get her spayed. The vet barely touched her (this was her first ever exam there) she also had a spot on her chin I wanted him to look at. He felt it with his hand and said it was a lump (he didn't even physically look at it) then proceeded to launch into the "tests" pitch. Now I have no problem paying for tests especially if they are warranted. But the story he began to weave was something else. He seemed very disappointed that I didn't agree to the tests and only paid for her shots. I am so disappointed it was an amazing vet until the corporation took over.

extremely disappointed with this place since ownership changed in 2018. I tried to make and appointment for one of my dogs (5 years at the clinic) to be spayed. They insisted I get her vaccines not required by law before they would see her. I guess no patient choice here! I know they are within thier rights to ask for Rabies but none of the others are REQUIRED by law so why should I be forced into getting them. Only reason is money straight up. Lost my three dogs as patients and I will fille a complaint with the college.

Called for a nail clipping, they said to come after 1pm. Got there at 1:05pm. Went to the front desk and they said it was just going to be a couple minutes. 20 minutes passed so I went back up to the desk and they said yes just a couple more minutes... I ended up going up 3 times in total, and my mom went up once. I waited just over an hour for a nail clipping that took 2 minutes. When I went up to pay, they had never put my dog into the syst for the nail clipping. But they ended up giving me the clipping for free.

I have been going to this vet for quite a few years now and I really can’t say enough good things about them. There prices seem quite reasonable and there staff is very knowledgeable. Michelle and Lex really seem to know there stuff. And just as important they really seem to understand that special bond and love that people have for their furry family members. Michelle was a Godsend to us and our two aging senior cats that I had since they were 6 weeks old. There is no doubt in my mind that they wouldn’t have had the quality and longevity of their senior years if it wasn’t for her and her caring staff. And when the time finally came she understood the heart ache and was there for us and helped us through it. It has been a great experience!

My wife and I had to have our beloved Retriever put down unexpectedly, and we could not get in to see our regular Vet. The Doctors and nurses there made an unbearable event a little easier to get through. Very caring, and understanding of the pain we were going through. We will take all of pets there in the future.

I would not recommend this vet clinic at this point in time. I know that they have recently lost a few vets, so assume that they are looking to also lose some patients.

My family have been using this Vet for years, in the past I would have given a 5+, but since the new owners if I could I would give a it is a zero. Cost have gone thorough the roof, did some comparing with Vets in the area VCA is almost double in price. Always felt like home when we took our dogs, compassion, care and empathy existed...now its a business atmosphere. I was able to find my Vet that used to work there and we are having all of records transferred. So sad because they used to be sooooooo amazing.

We have been using NVC for over ten years. Prices since new ownership has taken over have gone way up. With the exception of a few staff I still recognize I don't find them all that friendly anymore. I think it's time I am going to think about changing veterinary clinics. Not the same at all since Lex has retired.

I had previously written the following, "Anyone looking for expert care and treatment for their pets should come here. The staff are friendly, and the veterinarians are the best we have ever experienced in terms of knowledge and compassion." However, I feel obligated to update this, as numerous changes in staff and the general running of the clinic have taken place. While the office staff are the same friendly people, the veterinarians seem to change frequently. Some of our favourite vets have left the clinic. Costs have increased dramatically as well. A previous $12 nail trim is now $26. Quite an expense when you need to take 5 large dogs in on a regular basis!! The previous owners of the clinic, Lex and Michelle, no longer work there, and they truly set the tone for how the clinic used to run. They are truly, truly missed! While the care of your pet is still good, be prepared for a more formal, corporate type of experience.

We used to really like this vet. Keep in mind a lot of the good reviews are from before the vet was sold. Since then the quality of care has gone way down. It's very clear they are only concerned with making money. They try to upsell you on everything. They don't seem to care at all about your pet. I highly recommend you skip this place and look elsewhere. Also they are very overpriced. As well as add on extras without getting your permission and then charge you.

Moved to the area 2 years ago. First trip to vet was for the sudden passing of my youngest cat. Staff took us in immediately and were very accommodating. This past summer, I called for an appointment for cat's rabies shot. It was for 5 weeks later and once there, was seen over 30 minutes later than time given.. Just recently, my senior cat needed urgent care and was told it would be 2 weeks before they could see her. I'm not sure what is happening at this clinic but I am now taking my 3 cats elsewhere.

Dr. Jess helped us with our very, very sick Coton. He had stopped eating and had blood in his stool and urine. We were afraid of kidney failure and thought we would have to euthanize him to avoid further suffering as he was refusing to eat anything. He really was in serious medical trouble. She was compassionate and came up with the correct treatment plan and, four days later, he is well on his way to recovery. She was kind and caring, recognizing how important our family pet is to us and finding a remedy. All of the staff couldn't have been nicer or more supportive. As a pet industry professional, and a pet owner, I've interacted with a lot of veterinarians. Dr. Lex's staff is one of the most professional and friendly teams I have ever had. They are competent, honest and heartfelt in their treatment of the animals. Their offices are spacious, well kept and the grounds are lovely. For such a large team, it still feels personable and intimate, and even throughout the hustle and bustle, I've always felt treated like I was a priority. Great service.

Have loved this place for 5 years, now, the prices have gone up 30%, 3 weeks ago I got eye drops for my dog and they were $33, now they are $55, and I'm told that's just the way it is with the new owners VCA Well unfortunately I will pull all 3 of my pets from there and find a cheaper, more reasonable veterinarian. Its ridiculous for that much of a hike in eye drops!

My husbamd and I have taken our puppy Cooper here a couple times now and the staff were great with us and Cooper. Cooper loves it here, he always gets treats and attention; Infact Coooer felt so at home his first time here he fell asleep on the vet table! The other day we booked an appointment for Cooper to get groomed... His first time... Upon booking it we realized we needed a certification of rabies shot. These people are disgusting people! They made a price error of 133$ that they had to give back to us , and the office manager Carrie, decided to tell us to " take our business else where, because now it's coming out of their pocket!!! . She continued to say how she doesn't need our money and she has staff to pay!" She walked away and started purposely yelling infront of all these customers and said we aren't getting anywhere as if we weren't helping! My boyfriend said you just helped us I don't get it! Why can't we come back !! And she continued to say too bad!! So over 133$ we aren't allowed to come back... and we've been there for years and same with our family! We weren't even rude to her we just kindly told her about the mistake and how we even signed for the other price !!!! We called the owner of the store , I believe her name was Lex, and she said " I agree with my office manager .. you can't please everyone and I'm done bending over backwards for 29 years to my customers !" We said we just called to just tell you about her loosing customers it's not like we called to get a discount or something! We just called because we were so hurt because we wanted to still come back.. and now we aren't allowed because of 133$ that we didn't pay...this place is so unprofessional and sadly it's not about your animals.. it's all about money! I am so shocked about how this hospital treated us as we've been valid customers for years and our family and friends..... spread the word guys! Don't let people like this work with your animals when they don't even care about them!

Very polite professional service with well thought out Covid protocols. Our cat was bitten by a stray cat and had a bad infection in her leg. Her treatment was done gently and she is now doing great. We received a follow-up phone call to check on her progress and went in for vaccinations and a check up again this week. My only complaint would be that it was pricey but our pets are family.

It’s no secret from the reviews that things have been up and down here since the place changed hands last year. Today’s visit was an “up” with a young capable “new” vet who saw us promptly, examined our son’s dog thoroughly and brought his vaccinations up to date and gave us solid advice about the ticks that infest our area. Last time we came another young vet was also capable but a bit too rough with our sixteen year old cat and we were considering not returning. Previous to that we had seen a lady locum with her, who was amazingly good and gentle. Hopefully this beautiful place is back on the up and up!!

The writting was on the wall when we arrived for our 4:00 apt. today. There were no animals to be found in lobby. Yesteryear, the place was packed with animals and their caregivers. We we told upon arrival that they are running a 'bit' behind....No worries..... Fast forward to 430, and the assistant, who checked my sick cat for her vitals said the dr. is still running behind and will get to us as soon as he can. 4:50 came and we decided to say the hell with this and left. Reading the reviews, it makes sense now. We have been using Lex's for over 20 years and NEVER had a problem. We have adopted, throughout the years, 6 of his cats and felt a connection with this vet and staff. Im sure most of these positive reviews are from when Lex still owned the business. Wont be back. Wont recondmend them... A true shame.

I had an appointment booked for my 10 yrs old dog to get checked out. She has begun limping and crying in pain for no reason. I arrived 20 min early. No other pets waiting on appointments. One very busy receptionist. Was not able to book in that I was there for almost 25 minutes. Advised that there had been an emergency and they were running a little late. Other pets began to arrive and I sat and watched as they were escorted into treatment rooms by the one remaining vet. After waiting over an hour and half for my appointment I finally called another clinic and walked out never having seen a vet. Ive been going here for a few years and since the clinic has up graded and changed management I find they lack patient care and management. Very frustrating. Services....in the past good....now not so much.

SCAM! AVOID AT ALL COSTS This is not at all what it use to be. I took my dog here to get fixed, I am from Toronto so came up for the weekend to have it done. I paid the bill and went on my way. 6 months later I received a call that I owe $50 on an outstanding balance, the girl explained they had forgotten to charge me and realized once they went through their books. This was THEIR mistake for missing the payment and to come after me 6 months after the fact !? They even put the small amount of $50 in collections... I am still fighting with them on this after 2 years. It’s not about they money, it’s about not being able to fix your mistakes and know the value of keeping customers. We would have been loyal customers to them but certainly not after this. They may get $50 but they are losing thousands in the business myself and family would have given them. There are other options. Please save your time and money and look elsewhere.

As far as I can remember .. we have always had a dog or two.. my parents have always used northumberland in colborne. Since I've been an adult ive had 3 dogs... the staff there have always been friendly and seemingly love to be there. The rates are totally fair and usually they send your pooch home w a treat. Both the dogs we currently have love the people there too. .. my sister had to put down her great Dane a few weeks ago and they offered to come to the house as it was very difficult to move him in his fragile state- it was only a small extra charge which was absolutely worth it to be able to see him at peace in his own bed in his own home with all of his family snuggled close. I cant imagine going anywhere else

VCA doesn't care about your pet, only your wallet. I've I've been a patient here for over 5 years and the change in care is absurd. In 6 months I was overcharged $500 for tests I never gave them permission to run or was lead to believe it was included in the price when it wasn't. I wouldn't even mind the price hike if the quality of care was even similar, but that's been chucked out the window, too. The wait times are insane, I even went in with my boy for an emergency one day and was completely forgotten about in the parking lot. We waited out there for 2 hours with my 75lb dog crying in pain. Finally made the switch to another vet, they're half the price and double the care. So long, Northumberland! It's a pity to see you fall so far in such a short time.

Mostly just providing some feedback here, because I don't believe we will be going back there. The room provided for having a pet put down is right beside the reception area, and not very sound proof. At such a time, pet owners would like to spend quiet time with their pet and not listen to how everybody's weekend was. And perhaps the light could be on a dimmer to create a more relaxing atmosphere. As well, it's a good idea to let the customer pay before the procedure (especially if they ask), as afterwards they don't really want to stick around to pay. Finally, bedside manner: if the owner is petting/comforting the animal, don't push their hand off, so YOU can pet the animal. I'm sure you want to develop some level of rapport with the animal, but I can almost guarantee the pet would prefer being comforted by the owner than by the vet. We've been going to this office for over 10 years (4 pets)... and to say we were very disappointed in this experience is a tremendous understatement. Perhaps with some feedback, improvements can be made.

Sad to say I will not be returning after many years of bring my fur family to this facility, I had brought my cat which I have for the last 2 years and the decision had to to made to put him down, the vet gave him the the first shot to relax him then left the room and said come and get him in about 15 min to finish, totally unprofessional in my opinion and I have never been more shocked at the treatment and the lack of compassion that is gone... and unfortunately so are we.

I brought my dog Raymond in after an incident with a stick while we were out on a walk. I knew there was a piece of the stick left in his throat because of the way he was acting. My concerns were totally ignored for TWO visits (but made sure they did a "check up" to get that vet fee). I basically was told I was wrong and he would not be eating or drinking. Fast forward a couple weeks and he has a massive abscess on his throat from whatever part/piece of the stick was left in his throat. Suddenly I am taken seriously? (weird how that works). I get an apology from the Vet and a refund for my two previous visits which was nice of them to do. Although, they now had to drain the abscess which was of course expensive and had to perform surgery on him once the antibiotics they prescribed brought the swelling down. Surgery was done and they still did not find the piece which I now know after speaking with other Vets is not an easy task... Fair enough, but my problem is if on the initial visit they had done what I asked it would've never come to this! After surgery I was told if it swells up again to call them.. Well it did and I called and left a voicemail with no response. I call again the next day and ask for a return call or to send his medical records immediately as it was an emergency his abscess had filled up again and even worse. Within 10 MINUTES I get an email with his records. Not even a phone call.. I am sad I put my pet in their care. I am sad I spent over a thousand dollars with them to be right back to where we started and I am frustrated they will not admit their wrong doing with not taking it seriously. I now have been taking him to another Vet and he is on different antibiotics and may need an ultrasound and surgery again. PLEASE do not trust them with your pet as all they see is a dollar sign on their head! I will be reporting them. I wish I could give zero stars.. although Katie who I dealt with bringing Raymond in and out and calling me for updates was lovely so that star can be for her. Today I had to say goodbye to my 13 year old mini schnauzer,KT. I went to NorthHumberland and each staff member knew how hard it was to say goodbye to a dear family member. Each person was very professional,caring and thoughtful!!! Procedure was explained in detail. The vet and the vet techs were all so gracious. They said we could stay with our loved one for as long as we wanted. I would highly recommend this clinic to anyone and everyone who cares so much about their extended furry and not so furry family. The very best care was given!!!!!!

All about money. I called today, as my daughter picked up a puppy yesterday on the way to Cobourg (we live in Ottawa). She noticed she has worms, and the puppy will be staying in Cobourg with my parents for 2 weeks, so I called to get a dewormer. The puppy was just at the seller's vet on the 21st, yet this vet wants you to pay for exam before dispensing DEWORMER. I've walked into vet clinics on more then one occasion after picking up a puppy and was handed a dewormer within 15 mins, esp when I've arrived home after buying the puppy in a different town, that had already been vet checked or dewormed the first time by previous owner.

They were nothing short of kind to my pup and my daughter and gave good advice for feeding, crating etc. Then we had an emergency with our cat and she needed surgery that they did quickly and efficiently without breaking our bank account. Called this morning and they were able to accommodate me and the 3 kittens I found abandoned who needed their shots and deworming the same day! Dr. John was personable, fun and ensured my kittens were well taken care of. The Vets assistant was very hospitable, allowing the kittens to climb on her as she was doing her work! All treatments, including flea treatments came to $50/kitten! They even provided me with a free bag of kitten food for each kitty. I am extremely pleased and highly recommend this service despite the negative reviews below. All pricing fluctuates - an increase in cost of services and goods is not a good excuse to rate 1 star. Do you give petroleum companies 1 star when they drastically change the cost of gas?? These people are wonderful and everyone should take their pets here ! Thank you NVC !!

If I could give it less, I would. To say the least, I was lied to as I was cashing out about a voucher I had from fixed for life that was apparently applied but yet I was charged full price. Manager hasn't contacted me back in over 2weeks either. Lex and Michelles place was run much smoother and much more cared for. ANOTHER APPOINTMENT DUE TO NEATURED Recently got my dog neatured and the stitches didnt fully come out which turned into a blue zit like looking figure. He diagnosed it for a cyst and game me meds ...$150 later and find out from other vets it was because the incision. DO NOT GO.

Sorry folk's but think we are all going to be looking for a new Vet office very soon. I went in last Wed to get a med for my dog, the poor staff can no longer give you a med unless its ok by a Dr in the Pharmacy Dept. Went back in the next day and the Dr still had not approved it. I am borrowing the med I need from another person luckily. Went in on Sat and according to the website they were open but there was no cars in the lot. So today being Mon I go in and still unable to get the med ( this is my 4th time coming to the office for this med - and yes it was prescribed for my dog by a vet from this Clinic ) and there is no Dr in the office who can approve it. The poor staff have to look you in the eye and say they can not help you. Andrea and Natasha the young vets have left and the one vet who can approve this stuff had just walked out today. I even tried to make an appoint and they said they can not make new ones for 2 weeks. This sure is not we are used to from this business. I feel sorry for the front line staff as they are the ones dealing with the Customers. I also overheard that Nail trims are now $20 where they use to be $12. Guess if they cant get you to leave one way they will force you away by raising up their prices dramatically.

I have been here multiple times, usually last minute emergency calls because my muppet of an outdoor cat has hurt themselves. Most recently i had my cat treated for something i had never imagined for feared, a gunshot wound from a small caliber pellet gun. In her head. Luckily the pellet lodged behind her ear missing everything vital. The staff at Northumberland Veterinary Clinic treated her right as soon as possible and she is recovering well. We are going to the OPP (cobourg) tomorrow to file a report and please ask anyone with any information in the cobourg-baltimore stretch of highway 45 to please come forward. If not, please at least talk to your kids who have pellet guns. Hurting animals is wrong and is an early warning sign of more serious things if not addressed young. Thank you to the staff here. Thank you to anyone who can help find who did this, or at least, prevent it from happening to another pet.

The vet was able to see me on short notice. First time using this clinic. The front staff and techs were amazing however I was not impressed with the vet. The vet did not introduce himself and did a very lack luster exam. I would not have confidence in this vet to treat anything other than a minor visit. It was a good test run for me but I would not use this clinic for my main veterinarian care.

The prices are a bit high but they have friendly staff and great staff. They were able to catch the early stages of a deadly infection in my dog and save her life before it developed, i had never even heard of this type of infection (pyrometra). My only major issue was that they said they'd call us after she was out of surgery for an update and didn't which made things a bit more stressful.

Despite the bad reviews I was happy with the services. Well had to take away the 5 stars! This place doesn't care one bit about your pet, its all about the money. Took my dog in for an emergency, waited over 2 hours! Only to have the vet to try and talk me into taking her to another vet. Sure why not, I'll just spend another $100 on a another vet visit! She needed a c-section and I didn't ask I actually begged the vet to spay her and he flat out said no! It was too late in the day. Here's a thought, maybe if I didn't have to sit around and wait over 2 hours! After the c-section looks like the vet ran out the door as he was gone by the time I got to see my dog! I stood up for this vet when everyone else was complaining, now I know why.
