Have been taking my dog here for years, he is happy and healthy thanks to this great clinic

Katherine Kearney

Was provided a quote for a routine visit for my cat. Did not fulfill all services and charged more than what was originally told to me. I was short $20, therefore needed more time to come up with the full amount. Shortly after I lost my mother . Was harassed with payments to be rendered during Covid and funeral planning. No empathy from staff (Clearly, a huge burden to your clinic meanwhile you failed to produce an accurate amount & service) Happy my bill is paid. I won't return.

The staff at Canmore Veterinary Hospital provided excellent care for my dog for thirteen years and were extremely empathetic, caring, and professional when we had to euthanize him this spring.

A heartfelt thank you from me, and Mofo I wanted to thank you guys for everything you have done over the past few months for Mofo. Thank you for your honesty, and thank you for treating my partner and best friend with respect and dignity. Ian, Karen, and Tracey- I have an insane amount of respect for the work you do. It takes a special kind of person to do the work you do. Cancer may have won this round for my baby, but you guys did a top notch job at keeping her comfortable and also for dealing with me when I was an absolute mess. (sorry about that, yikes!) I would recommend your clinic to anyone and when I am ready to take on a new furry friend, there is no question that they will be a patient of yours. Bless you guys! Isabel & (the late, and great) Mofo

Thank you to all the staff who helped us deal with the loss of our dog with patience and compassion. These people really love animals and it comes across is everything they do.

Canmore Veterinary Hospital took my crying call with calm professionalism. They were able to see my dog with 30 minutes notice after an accident at a Banff campground. They treated my dog wonderfully although I was not able to enter the vet’s office due to COVID-19 restrictions. The vet consulted us in the parking lot, offered advice, administered treatment and sent us on our way. Thank you Canmore Vet!

Dr. Sylvia was very prompt to investigate my dog's condition in every possible way imaginable even though she had early on all the results and clinical symptoms she needed to cure him rapidly, effectively and and at a very low cost, she did not. I write this bad review today because Dr. Sylvia showed a complete lack of humility and compassion after I presented these facts (had to succesfully treat my dog elsewhere 1 month later) towards her ignorance of the erlichiosis disease. Thanks for nothing Laurence and Baboo

We have used Canmore Vet for many years — with multiple pets — but this is the first time we are writing a review. Our experience has consistently been amazing. If it wasn’t, we wouldn’t have been taking our Furry Family Members there for care for so many years. —We have always found all staff to be caring and compassionate. —They take the time to explain things so that we can better understand our pets, and provide the best lives for them. —We appreciate the post-visit call to check on unwell FurBabies. —We have boarded our cats there before. They returned to us well fed, well loved. We are currently spending our last days with our older cat. We are at peace with saying goodbye because we know she had a good life. And Canmore Vet was an important part of the Good Life she enjoyed.

Toby loves his time at the day care. He loves his share of treats and cuddles from the staff and Vets. Everyone is so knowledgeable and helpful.

Truly amazing people at this vet clinic. Took Scamp there cause he had fallen off the bed and they were super nice and Accommodating. Would recommend to anybody who is in the banff area With their pets and need assistance

Stefan Martensson

The techs takes your pet inside and you wait in your vehicle. The veterinarian calls you and assesses your pet. It was quite comfortable, even if a normal visit it's more personable.

Carter Hartt

Everyone at this clinic are so amazing! Our Goldendoodle had an episode while we were camping in Kananaskis this summer and we had to rush her in to be examined. This clinic was very accommodating and so welcoming! We saw Dr. Sylvia who was amazing with our dog as was the vet tech! We are so grateful for the exceptional service we received during a very traumatic time! I can only wish our vet at home delivered the same service! Thank you again for everything you did for us!

There should be changes made so that payment is made befor or after not in the middle of the procedure of putting my cat down to make confusion or terror and make the transission easy on the animal. The last three minutes with my cat I had a debit machine stuffed in my face wanting payment. This confused my cat to freak out in terror and wasn't plesent. His last three minutes he spent terrified as I had to make the payment to have him have the second and third injection. Never seen such unprofecinalism in my life and I asked around and this isn't the first time so if you want to be scared for life with this happening to you I'd advise not bring your animal there.

We are from Michigan and on a trip to the Canadian Rockies when our 13 yo Portugese Water Dog Baci got very sick and we had to say goodbye. The Dr and staff were amazingly kind and gentle with us especially knowing we would not be able to bring him with us. It was so heartbreaking but I can’t imagine a kinder group of people. Thank you. You made a difficult situation just a little more bearable. We are so thankful. Pat and Terry Reay. .

The staff here are very kind and helpful, they have fit my cat in quickly multiple times after she's been sick or hurt. Dr. Ian and Dr. Sylvia have both treated her with excellent care.

Michaela Paule

Amazing service, professionals and very kind! Thank you for taking such a good care of our pets!

The staff and Dr Ian Gerrits were wonderful. Very compassionate when we brought our dog Murphy in without an appointment. Even though they were fully booked they tended to her and gave her the best service. Answered my questions the next day.”

Lisa Rippee

The vets here have always gone out of their way to follow-up on acute care for my dogs.

Elizabeth Wright

I brought my dog in without an appointment after she had some bloody bowel movements. The staff were very understanding (I was a wreck), and quickly brought my dog and I into an exam room. Dr. Gerrits saw us very quickly, and was very informative and sensitive. They did not conduct any more tests than necessary, and provided me with all the aftercare information and medication I needed. I will definitely continue to go back to this clinic, and recommend it to other pet owners! They are an outstanding team!

I would not recommend boarding/kenneling your dog at this business. I was told that my 1 year old dog barked too much and was too high energy. I could not believe that a business offering kenneling services would see barking and energy as an issue. This clinic gave me the ultimatum to medicate my dog or pick him up. Of course I didn’t have immediate alternative arrangements so I was forced to medicate my dog, and then pay for those costs as well. When I picked my dog up I was disturbed by how sedated he was. He kept tripping over his own feet and couldn’t seem to walk properly. He appeared to be scared of everything and anything, when normally he is a very happy and curious pup. It was very upsetting to see him this way. I would not recommend this business for any type of boarding/kenneling services. They seem to be more interested in making money than the well being of your animal.

Thanks for helping me over the phone with my dog while we were camping (Katie i think). Charlie is feeling better!

Absolutely fantastic team of professionals. I trust the team 100% with the care of my dog. They have also cared for my parent's dog, and performed a small surgery, which went very well with no complications. A vet tech called the day after surgery to make sure all was well. My dog had behavioural problems and stomach issues when I adopted her, and the team was so understanding and helpful with training suggestions, diet suggestions, and other tips. I'm happy to report my dog is now healthy, happy, and enjoying her mountain life.

My spouse and I just got our first puppy, and we are not short on questions/inquiries. Being new to the process, especially in light of COVID-19, we were overwhelmingly impressed with the service and patience provided. The staff was very caring, and the Vet took time out of his day to answer any/all of our questions. I would highly recommend! Thank you!

Fantastic care for my heeler needing a cracked molar removed! Such a caring and helpful group of people they never made me feel judged when I was concerned about costs and were very accommodating to help me get the care my girl needed. I’ll definitely return to them and recommend them to anyone! Top notch service and care all around :) Thank you!

NOTE: the drug acepromazine (the drug given to Ellie) is contraindicated for treating anxious or aggressive animals as they are more reactive to noise and startle under its influence, and can produce marked sedation. Acepromazine is a phenothiazine derivative tranquiliser that works by dissociative effects. This means that an animal might still perceive the fearful stimulus but be unable to make sense of it cognitively, resulting in increased fear and atypical reactions (Lloyd JKF. Minimising Stress for Patients in the Veterinary Hospital. Veterinary Sciences. 2017) I needed a place to board my dog, Ellie, for two nights. Upon bringing her to CVH I was warned that if a dog barks excessively they put a bark collar on them and if that doesn't work they will medicate (sedate them) or you have to pick them up. If I had been made aware of the policy at the time of booking I would have declined and made other arrangements. I have boarded Ellie regularly at various reputable kennels, including other Veterinary clinics, for longer stays of time and have never had an issue. Furthermore, she is crate trained at home and when I am at work she is happy to go into her crate because that is her safe space and where she sleeps at night.Ellie is no stranger to Veterinary clinic settings as I am a Veterinarian myself and she has stayed in them while I work. I decided against my better judgement to follow through with my booking as it was too late to cancel and find an alternative. I told the staff I have never had an issue with her and can pay for her stay and pick her up the following morning. The assistants suggested I should pay for her when I pick her up in case I incur more charges. When I asked what charges that might be they said barking which struck me as odd that they seemed to be suggesting there was a high probability they would have to use it and I would have to pay. The morning after dropping her off I received a phone call just as I was heading out with the wedding party I was with saying the collar is not working and that she will either need sedation or to be picked up. I was surprised they had put the collar on her without informing me as a courtesy (even though I had agreed to it for an extra cost if needed) and shocked that it would be necessary in the first place. As I was trying to explain that this really seems quite out of character and that I can’t imagine her reacting this way but I understand these things can happen in new environments the person on the phone cut me off to tell me I needed to make the choice to medicate or to pick her up. This was stressful news to receive and put me in the uncomfortable position of having to make a decision to leave my supposedly stressed out dog or the wedding party where I was an involved bridesmaid and had no alternative place to take my dog as the hotel we were staying did not allow them. The tech on the phone did not seem empathetic to my concerns and I felt pressured into allowing them to give sedation. I am surprised that they would need to resort to sedation so quickly especially since the operating hours of the staff are reduced on weekend and there would be periods of time where no one would be monitoring my dog (and sedated dogs can vomit and regurgitate which can be very serious). In addition if there was more staff present (as most boarding kennel services provide) the dogs may be less stressed and less inclined to bark with people around. After a very stressful evening worrying about my dog I went to pick Ellie up the next morning and had to pay the extra charges for the medication. The additional fee is the least of my concerns. The clinic claimed the policy is in place to ensure quiet for the adjacent neighbours in their strip mall and as such I feel this does not priotize the welfare of the animal and I am disappointed my colleagues would use this as a first resort.

I've been meaning to leave a review for years. The entire team here are absolutely fantastic. Our dog Dresden first came for puppy play time and it gave him such a positive experience that he was always excited to go to the vets(turned out to be way more important that we expected). Dresden had a disastrous trip to the groomers that resulted in a severed Achilles tendon and ended having 3 surgeries(in Calgary) that they referred us for and helped get everything organized. There were many trips to the vets in between the surgeries and they were always so reassuring and helpful. He also did rehabilitation here and you would never know now the issues he's had with his leg! I've also boarded Dresden here several times with zero issues and he was always excited to get there and came home happy. We've recently moved from Canmore and it's made me appreciate even more how awesome it was to have such a great team of people to take our dog to!

A friend referred me to Canmore Veterinary Hospital and I am so grateful. The last veterinary clinic I attended in Canmore was pushy, expensive and I would leave feeling guilty and shamed that I didn't have an endless budget. At Canmore Veterinary Hospital they work through pricing with you so you are aware of all fees/costs. They give honest advice about what's essential and what is recommended. They are great with handling my cats and taking the time to discuss any concerns as well as educate me how to better care for them. Highly recommend.

I cannot express how wonderful, compassionate and caring the entire staff are at the Canmore Veterinary Hospital are. Dr Sylvia is one of the best I have met, having pets all my life. I strongly recommend to any bow valley pet owner as they will care for you just as much as they care for your pets.

I would like to thank EVERYONE in the clinic for their kindness, love and caring with my little boy Crosby. He has had a tough eight months (two surgeries) and they have been nothing but amazing!! They treated him like he was their own and gave extra cuddles!! Tina is so helpful with the pet insurance claims, Kristen always comes out from behind the desk to greet Crosby and Alayna is such a pleasure to deal with! Dr. Ian always takes the time to say hello and stops to ask how we are doing even if he's on his way out. He also helped explain the recovery process in detail and was happy to answer any questions I had. Dr. Sylvia is always smiling and happy to help, you can tell she is passionate about her work! Amanda for following up with me before, during and after each surgery so that I didn;t worry and she put my mind at ease! I would ESPECIALLY like to thank Dr. Karen and Kendra as Crosby absolutely loves them to bits! He actually gets so excited when I say we are going to visit them and rushes to the door of the clinic! What dog does that, lol? I highly recommend this clinic for the care and treatment of your furkids!

We booked overnight stays at this Vet/kennel for our dog and our son's dog. When we arrived and were completing paperwork, we were informed that if our dogs barked they would put a bark collar on them and charge us $25. If that did not stop the barking then they would sedate them with drugs which would be an additional charge. They told us this was necessary because of their location in a strip mall with neighbors who objected to the barking. We really didn't like the policy but we were pretty stuck at that point because we had booked accommodation in Banff. When we returned our son was informed that a bark collar had been placed on his dog because she was whining. And of course he had to pay for it. Surprising to me that a veterinarian would use these tactics but if we had at least been made aware of the policy at the time of booking we could have declined and made other arrangements. They are closed Sunday and you have to make an appointment to pick up your pet at either 11:00 am or 3:00 pm. We would not bring our dogs here again.

Thank you!

Amazing clinic, incredibly helpful for people traveling through with aging toy poodles medicated to Immortality. We needed refills on two medications that were difficult to get in small dog doses, they were able to special order them from Ontario for us with very little fuss and found a solution to tie us over until they arrived. Thank you so much for being understanding and going above and beyond for our fur babies:)
