REVIEWS OF Veterinary Specialty Centre Of Newfoundland and Labrador IN Argentia

The team at VSC are the most caring, genuine people you will ever meet. Every experience I have had with the clinic leaves me SO happy that we have a specialty centre in this province – somewhere I know will always be there in case my gets-into-everything pupper ever has a problem or emergency. Their compassion and expertise is second to none. I'm looking forward to trying their rehabilitation services – specifically acupuncture to help with Biggie's allergy issues.

We took our one-year old dog in who had not been well. The veterinarian (who is currently only conversing via phone due to COVID) has significant problems making herself understood in English. We had terrible experiences with follow up. Our dog died while at VSCNL, and they offered to conduct an analysis of the cause of death, and told us to confirm the next day. We called three times, were told every time someone would have to contact management and that they would call us back but they never did. We could not even get a copy of the pet's medical record. They eventually returned a call a couple of weeks later after our regular vet got in touch with them. Unfortunately, this place is your only choice for emergency vet care in NL. Be prepared for a very serious lack of professionalism and low quality vet care at a very high cost.

This place always cares about the money before it even thinks about caring for your pets. Should have a sign on their door. Welcome to VSC Where we always put Our Profits before your pets. And I bet that these local guides who are giving a 5 star review are probably being paid for it. I would avoid this place like the co vid

They took very good care of my very sick dog. It can be very expressive, but they are the only ones who can do certain type test. I knew going in approximately what it was going to cost.

Maggie Brown-Bury

VSCNL saved my dogs life. He would not have made it without their care. Wonderful people doing wonderful work.

Let me preface this by saying I have a lot of compassion, and understanding for the difficulty of the life of a vet. Often being blamed for 'just wanting money' (but most often, they're just trying to cover costs) and the vet's really do care and only want the best for you and your critter friend. the VSC is not like this, at least not from my experience. We have a 5 month old pure bred Pomeranian from a very good breeder in Nova Scotia. One night, he wasn't really responsive, and seemed to be having a hard time keep his eyes open or supporting his head. In terror we went to the VSC (the ONLY emergency vet option in St. John's) worried sick about our little guy. On the way to the VSC, he vomitted and started to perk up a bit. Got there, was informed of the upfront 172$ fee (which is high, but an upfront fee is understandable for this type of thing). The vet came in, we explained the situation, and also that the only thing he'd eaten new that day was a duck wing (but he ate the whole thing). I was telling the vet that his tummy was quite tight, and a similar thing happened to my old dog and ended up being indigestion/constipation. Vet examined our dog, ignoring my comment about the duck wing and previous experience, and asked us what we are normally feeding him. Stated that we feed him freeze dried raw, to which she commented 'I'm a bit worried about your feeding choice, especially because it's not puppy specific. I'm concerned that he may be low on essential amino acids". She suggested a blood test to check that and several other items. Test results came back 100% ok (I'll add here, they used so much rubbing alcohol on him, his fur right below his nose reeked from across the room, but they took no steps to help clean him up). Vet still kept talking about concerns with his diet (raw meat.. the closest you can get to the natural diet, concerning....) and began to list off several other genetic conditions that occur in Poms (never once asking where we got him, or if we knew about his lineage, which we know quite a bit about). She wanted to keep him in for observation over night for $800 a night (she brought up the cost in a very cold manner, it's hard to describe, but there just felt like no care, just 'here's what the bill will be'. We decided not to do that, as he was improving by the minute (something else she ignored) and took him home. About 10-15 minutes after being home he took the biggest poo of his life, and was right as rain. Add to that our side conversation about other vets in the city, talking about a vet I go to all the time and how he did surgery on my old dog, and was quite good at it, she (the vet) just replied with ' ya, I'm sure he knows what he's doing, but our surgeon here is a specialist in that, so you pay for the specialist' (which felt very backhanded to a well known vet in the city, and also felt very much like an excuse to charge more). The VSC left a taste of 'money grubbing' in our mouths, and the more we talk to people, the more we hear similar stories (please look up Rescue NL's post on the subject). I would never recommend this place to anyone, and it sucks they are the only emergency vet option.

Great clinic, most friendly and knowledgeable staff around. Took great care of my animals. Highly recommended

Absolutely the worst vet around, nothing but money grabbers and unprofessionals. Your business practices are inhumane and your entire practice deserves to be fined and shut down.

Horrible service. Please be aware this is a business and they have no other motives except making money. We took our dog here 3am after she injested a chicken bone. The doctor examined our dog, never bothered to take her weight or actually do an exam. First thing she mentioned was surgery. We made it clear that’s not in our budget (especially seeing as our dog was fine at the moment). We opted to get one single x-ray and requested it NOT be sent to they’re “specialty radiologist” for review at a later date. We chose to take our dog home because we did not feel comfortable leaving her with them, and especially at the rate of 2000$ Per 12-hours plus any care needed. They spent more time doing up and printing outrageous quotes than actually tending to our beloved pet. They called me back 3 days later asking for an extra 160$ for the X-ray and exam that we already paid for. During this call they did not bother to ask how our dog is doing. Horrible place. Staff should be ashamed of themselves. I do NOT recommend this place to anyone. Sadly they are the only 24/7 clinic I could find.

Nick House

The staff at VSC are knowledgeable, professional, and caring. It is clear from the moment you step through the door that everyone in the building is invested in the well being of your pet. Their facility is modern, well equipped, and accommodating.

When i my husky/ Sheppard mix got sick they took excellent care of her, going above and beyond to keep her feeling comfortable and loved.

Had to take my dog in for an emergency visit outside 5 hours first we were told 1300 on the high side then they call and say she has diabetes and they need to keep her overnight they wanted a 1455 downpayment when we said we couldn't afford it they made my mom sign a form saying she refused medical treatment and sent her home. I'm on a very fixed income so I can't afford that much and I can't get approved for coverage. Cold hearted vet. UPDATE: We managed to get the money the next day and they said bring her in. We weren't home an hour when the vet called and said her organs were shutting down they could have started treating her the night before and we'd have gotten the money but no why show a little compassion and if they knew she was going to die why not tell us that? They just want the money they don't want to help at all.

Do not bring your pet here! Below is my partner's experience: "I brought my kitty here because he was lethargic and couldn't keep food down. Unfortunately this happened during weekend when my regular vet wasn't available. I went to the VSC, I paid an emergency fee of $350.00 before they even looked at my cat. Next, my cat and I waited over an hour for a vet to see us. When the vet finally arrived, we began to describe the situation to the vet and was completely ignored and they wanted my cat to take unnecessary tests and examinations. They took my cat out of the room for a physical examination, all fine until they needed an assistant to take my cats temperature with an additional charge of $150.00 (cost for an assistant apparently). At this point I am $500.00 in and still have no idea what is wrong my kitty. Next they suggested additional tests at the costs of over $3000.00 to continue. I refused the additional tests as they cost too much as well as the possibility of having to pay even more for the treatment. Based on the already expensive tests I decided to not opt out. I brought my kitty home and the sickness passed in a few days. It turned out to be a flu. " I am very dissatisfied in how they treated my partner and her cat. It seems as though VSC is praying on people's emotions to scam them out of their hard earned money. I don't believe it has anything to do with the quality or knowledge of veterinarian or staff but I believe it has everything to do with their business model! It is a sick & twisted way of making money and the owners should reconsider their approach. I summary I do not recommend the VSC and will not be taking any of my pets there. I will NOT recommend anyone else takes their pet there either

A big thank-you to Dr. Gonzales and staff at the VSC. They took wonderful care of our cat Ralphie. They diagnosed him with crystals in his urine and did everything to make him comfortable. Before they did any testing they called and let us know the cost and why it needed to be done. He was in an emergency situation and got the care he needed. I also appreciated the notes sent to the regular vet so he was up to date on Ralphie's ongoing needs.

D STATTY

Overpriced Dumpster. Go elsewhere if you love your pet. 260 dollars is rediculous for what they do and the amount of time they waste leaving your pet alone while you're just waiting in the lot for hours without any communication as to why so many other pets are going in and out in record time. I get the impression they prioritize based on the amount to be made and push simpler cases to the backburner... while you wait and worry. buyer beware.

Krysten Burton

Friendly staff. Everyone who helped my kitty were very knowledgeable and thorough.

VSC took wonderful care of my best buddy - I can't say enough about how much they put me at ease in a very difficult time. We are very lucky to have access to the caliber of medicine available at VSC. My pup had a surgery that could not be done by anyone else in this province, and was a high risk to fly or travel anywhere. I will forever be thankful that I was able to offer my best friend what she needed while staying so close to home. Thank you, Dr. Bailey and lovely staff for taking care of the love of my life.

Janet Coombs

This is an absolutely wonderful facility, the compassion and care that the staff provide to animals is seconds to none. My 6 month old puppy had an incredibly rare brain liaison caused by an auto-immune response and should not be alive today, but the staff at this clinic went above and beyond with their rigorous care and thankfully we still have him today. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, however many of these reviews seem rather unfair. Yes, services at this clinic may be more expensive than your regular vet, however this is not a regular vet that simply handles checkups, routine shots, and neutering. This is specialty emergency center that houses equipment for pets that you would find at the Health Sciences or any regular hospital; and the veterinarians and staff are providing specialized expertise and round that clock supervision that simply no other vet center in the city comes even close to matching. For anyone who is ever unfortunate enough to ever have a true emergency situation with their cat or dog, you could not wish for a better facility or staff to care for your pet. They also direct bill pet insurance, which is a life saver in itself.

This place is a money gouge. I called in advance because we had to see someone about our dogs eye infection and didn't want to wait till Monday to see our vet. Asked them on the phone "yes $150 plus tax and whatever perception they need". Went in there seen a vet they did what they needed to, didn't ask us about extra charges or did we want to go ahead with whatever. Finished up and they tacked on another $150 plus tax for equipment charges and a physical examine that we didn't need or ask for. This explains why they all have apple computers and a brand new office. Good service but a mofia like business. Also, initial charges of $172.50, secondary charges of $172.50, kinda funny.

I cannot begin to explain how thankful I was for Dr. Luis at VSC. I brought my kitty in for an ultrasound and there were several things going on with her. I was extremely overwhelmed and hysterical at the thought of having to put my kitty down. When I went back to the VSC, I thought I was going to take her home and have to put her down so she wouldn't suffer. Dr. Luis sat down with me and patiently explained everything again. He was honest about the cost and different outcomes that may happen. But because he made sure I understood, I decided to treat the pancreatitis and hope for the best about the mass in her intestine. I know Leonard was a difficult patient and I know I was a bit of a mess and needy patient mom. But the staff never, ever made me feel like a bother. They texted me photos of Len, and updated me every single time I called. When I came in to visit Len, Dr. Luis explained things over and over again. Leonard is home now. I don't know what the next little while will bring, but I know one thing-- she is alive because he got through to me that Leonard had a fighting chance and I shouldn't give up easily. As someone who depends on my kitty more than the average person, I can't begin to explain how much that means. VSC is amazing. I don't know all the vets names, or the receptionists, but a special thank you to Brittany, Maggie, and especially Dr. Luis. And to everyone else who spoke to me. Your compassion and patience will be remembered for as long as I live. Even if Len gets sicker, I have this time with her now because of all of you.

I cant praise VSC enough! My 1.5 yr old husky was in a car accident and had to be at VSC for a total of 5 days. The care she received from the doctors and staff I cant thank them enough!!!!!

GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. I WILL NEVER FORGET THIS EVENT BECAUSE IT WAS SO TRAUAMTIC. Which is why I am bringing this comment to the top again. TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TREATMENT and SERVICE. STORY: We brought our sick rottweiler (female) there a day ago. In my own opinion, they did not successfully deduce my dogs health problems. Firstly, my dog was admitted to that center around 4pm, but did not receive treatment until close to 12-1am the next day. I was told this over the phone when my family called to check on our dog. They wouldn't let me see her before I went to work on the morning after her overnight stay due to "shift change".. they said they would text me a picture of my dog while I'm at work but instead they called and said that my dog ended up dying there, and they still didn't know why after giving me 2 different prognosis. In my own opinion they killed my dog with overdosing her on medication without thoroughly checking out the problem. Our family tragically lost a member (and $2,000 in total) thanks to carelessness. They acknowledged low potassium a half hour before she died.. but they didn't do a thing to fix it... this was after they blindly guessed that my dog was diabetic (actually suffer from ketoacidosis, which was NOT the case) and pumped her full of insulin which causes low potassium, and results in the heart to stop. She died of cardiac arrest.. they did $1,000 worth of diagnostic tests and started medication when they didn't know what was going on. Additionally, when we kept her overnight there and all they talked about to me was euthanization. Terrible experience. I wouldn't waste my money going here... it is my opinion that I paid money to be segregated from my dog, and for them to kill my dog.

I just took my cat, Panda, here for emergency pet care for a minor flesh wound. All of the employees were very professional and compassionate towards me. Panda was in for approximately 16 hours. Although I was stressed to have my pet in an emergency, I felt comforted that he was safe at VSC. If I am remembering her name correctly, Mona worked the night shift and answered my calls about Panda. I called approximately every 1-2 hours to inquire about him. She even texted me photos of him to ease my nerves. I appreciate this act of kindness very much. For anyone who is upset with wait times, please keep in mind that this is an animal HOSPITAL. I did not realize this until now. They triage the patients (pets) by severity of condition. Although Panda’s injury was critical to ME, his visit involved a longer wait time because compared to other pets he was a lower priority. The staff will do everything they can to comfort you during this wait time. Also, this visit to the vet may cost a lot of money compared to our personal health care costs or our vet clinic visits. This is unfortunate for the stressed out pet owner, but it is expensive to run a 24/7 emergency animal hospital. I do not believe they take any joy in telling you your visit will be $1000 or more. I believe that if they could do this all for free, they truly would. It is just not possible.

Brooklyn Halleran

The best vet in the province incredibly kind and compassionate. They went above and beyond from my pet cat, The cat.

Last night Dec. 22, 2018 We sadly had to put our much loved dog down ... it was an emergency situation and honestly I’m not sure what all the negative comments are about but we had top notch service there. The vet , I think Doc. Bailey , was amazing, very compassionate, she even called to check on Zoe and waited for us to come in, even though her shift was over. ... nothing but good to say about this place.

Justin Horvath

The facility is second to none in this province! Every visit I have been met with friendly caring staff that seem dedicated to a successful outcome. I've read some of the reviews here and they just aren't warranted... Yes it can be expensive but this is not a government run, MCP subsidized, hospital... its a state of the art privately run business taking care of our loved furry friends 24/7. I knew what i was getting into when I got my dog, I'd pay any bill to have him healthy, thanks VSC!!!

They're kind and caring. They have literally saved my pets lives.

Please make sure they check your animals vitals! Due the vet stating his heart was fine no need of taking his BP, my cat is now blind…… my cat platelets were low and never gave us the meds to help him increase his platelets. He needed to go get blood work done in fives days after visiting emergency, this new vet at a different vet hospital told us he was blind due to high BP and low platelets his retinas detached…. And now was anemic due do not having antibiotics to bring up his platelets. I spent almost $1500 for nothing! They never helped my animal out at all!!!!! ????????????????

My son took his cat there today and the service was horrible. Went in cause she was having trouble with her back legs. The supposly vet Ingrid Gonzalez did not have a clue, couldn't tell what was wrong with his cat but yet wanted to keep her in over the weekend to see a neurological,surgeon.. Keep asking if he wanted painkillers but when asked if she was in pain said she didn't know. She refused to give him has cat back after an hr and half he said he was going to post it to social media if he didn't get his back in 10 mins and in a min out they come with his cat. Absolutely horrible service

Brought my 6-month-old kitten in a few days ago, as she wasn't acting herself. Had a diagnosis within a few hours, and (the rather involved) surgery happened before the end of the day. I was given regular updates, and had her back the next evening. Throughout the ordeal the staff were kind, understanding, and compassionate beyond the requirements of professionalism. I know someone is wondering, "so what about the money? Was it expensive?". Yes, unfortunately, but that's the tradeoff where immediacy and expertise are required. Even so, the Centre offered options to mitigate the financial hurdle, and went above and beyond to get my kitten the care she needed. I don't think I could have asked for a better group to take care of her!

This review is in regard to a preliminary call I made to this service. Was on the weekend/emergency hours. The person with whom I was on the phone was very courteous, listened to the issue with my kitten, asked poignant questions to identify the problem and after gaining the information from me, she said that while I should come in soon, there isn't a need to come in during emergency hours. She also made it clear of the $150+tax or whatever the number was to come in during emergency hours if the condition worsens, even though I didn't think to ask, which I really appreciate. I have yet to visit these guys but if they really wanted to gouge me of my cash, they wouldn't have been this helpful. Thank you guys.

don’t take your pets here unless you want then to die and want to be spoken too like you’re less than human. don’t bother replying w that “savannah, we are so sorry about your experience” bs. you’re not.

Horrendous. Unless your pet is literally dying do not go!!!!! Emailed my story to them... no response.

This is an amazing facility with awesome staff! Our 2 year old golden doodle had an accident and had a complicated break of his right hind tibia and fibula, not a clean break ???? We were referred to VSC by a veterinarian who first saw Chester They took over and made us feel very secure and confident in their abilities. Chester underwent several surgeries, developed an infection, and had multiple treatments. The saving grace was Dr. Ryan Wong. He was incredible! He is very compassionate, professional, and dedicated to his work! He kept us apprised of Chester’s condition, and called many times just to check on him. Dr. Wong dressed Chester’s leg each week, and was extremely particular and patient. We firmly believe Chester May have lost his leg without this exceptional care. Dr. Wong will be leaving this summer, and what a loss that will be! Remember this is a “Specialty “ center, and yes proper care comes with a cost, this is where We recommend pet insurance. It gives you peace of mind and the ability to afford the best for your baby We highly recommend Veterinary Speciality Center for exceptional care for exceptional cases. Gail and Tom Lynch

Where do I begin? I honestly can't thank all of the staff enough for taking such amazing, and loving care of my baby Binx. They loved him, and treated him like their own. All of the girls there are so kind, and genuinely cared about my boy, and me. Binx was in for a few nights for an emergency surgery, and they had absolutely no issue with me calling every few hours to get an update on him. Day or night, 11pm, 5am, they were always happy to give me an update and to calm me down and reassure me that he was okay. They seriously went above and beyond for my boy. They kept me sane through the whole process. They even sent me photos and updates of him throughout the days there. How amazing is that?! ❤???? The surgical staff there are absolutely incredible. They did an amazing job saving my baby boys leg. I cannot thank you enough for everything. They were helpful, and informative through this whole process. I would give them all 10,000 stars if I could. Thank you all again, from the bottom of our hearts. You're all incredible people ❤ Love, Kayla, Cody, Zero, and baby Binx ????????

You folks were great when it came to helping with my dog a couple years back. Poor soul. However, I brought my cat in early this week (monday) $1,100 later I was informed she was severely constipated. Upon discharge I was given medication for her and all it said was ' give to her as needed' no info on what the medication was, nor what 'as needed' meant. Ended up googling that all myself. Further it noted if she wasn't eating within 24 hours to callback. Well I called back Tuesday and left VMs. Here we are Friday and I still haven't gotten a callback. I started force feeding her on Wednesday, and she is eating on her own now. I don't have an issue with the cost. My issue was not receiving a callback after paying you all that money to help her. Update: I received a callback Friday afternoon. The advice given was useful, but I still would have appreciated a more timely callback.

Megan Ivy

They are friendly and quick but pricey. You do have to pay an emergency fee first then regular pricing. They have been quick to diagnose and are empathetic. I have had 2 dogs and 4 cats to see them and they were wonderful. I had to euthanize one of my cats 2 years ago and they were wonderful during that time. Dr. Brownbury is amazing.

So I won’t complain about the staff, they seemed great, but visiting from Ontario I can tell you the price they charge before they even see your pet is ridiculous. I took my dog to an emergency clinic in Ontario at 3 in the morning and they gave her two shots and it still cost less than what I paid just so VSC St. John’s would see my dog. I’m still shocked I had to pay $250 just to get her in the doors. People of St. John’s - you are getting ripped off, and if I still lived there I would have something to say about it. Follow up to the comment from the owner - that’s not true and you know it. I’ve been to no less than 3 emergency clinics in Ontario, where commercial lease/rent rates are higher, as well as general overhead (wages, travel, etc.) and the ‘consulting’ fee is significantly lower. You have a monopoly and you are using that to gauge people. There is no impact to me - I’m back in Ontario and won’t have my pet in NL in the near future, but I thought the people of the province should know.

Kim Marshall

I brought my dog here for medical treatment one night at 8pm. They were opened and quite busy for that hour (3 other people there). They made me pay close to $200 before they looked at my pet as a consult fee. After they looked at my dog they gave me another bill which I had to agree to pay and sign before treatment was continued. This is where the problem started. They wanted to charge 600-900 more for treatment that I had completed at another vet for $100. I refused to pay for the expensive treatment and left. So basically I paid close to $200 for a consult!!!!!!!!!! NO TREATMENT!!! Avoid at all cost! I can understand paying before hand to receive payment for services. But to keep the whole $200 when they did nothing is a scam. Some of the money at least should have been returned! They are taking advantage of pet owners when their loved one is sick. They didn’t have to call anyone in for OT. The place was opened with 2 receptionist and multiple people in the back. I would not recommend!!!

This place is just a money grab. Had my sons cat over and she ended out having a uti. They treated her with 14 days antibiotics on sept 2nd. She finished her meds on the 17th and she seemed okay. 23rd i called back because it seems it didn't fix the problem. They wont refill without a recheck and to bring her back in it will cost the $260 for the emergency bill again before they will even look at her. They said it's been to long since she had tests. This is so wrong since they also charge another emergency fee of 125 on top of the $260 bucks before even examining her. This is wrong on so many levels!! Avoid this place if you at all can!

Colin McCormick

Very bad experience, my cat injuried his leg it was on a Sunday......they X-ray the wrong leg on my cat, $200 here, $200 there, when said and done $800, they kept my cat over night which was not necessary.....huge $$$$ grab. Soooo I brought my cat to my regular doctor, they splint his leg and all is good for $40......

Noah Whiffen

I found a kitten on the road last night injured and had no other option but to bring them here to make sure they were okay. I was told that if I give up the cat as a stray I have no right to know what happened to them. So I will forever be wondering how this poor kitty turned out. I understand that these things cost money but I don't understand the issue with a simple "they're fine" or anything. Hope this poor kitty is okay and doesn't get put down just to save some money.

Kristina Myers

We contacted the VSC during their after hours clinic on the weekend after our cat became very ill. The staff at the clinic were empathic and compassionate. Unfortunately our cat passed away but they made him as comfortable as possible and they were very kind to us. This was unexpected so we did not get the names of the staff but the technicians and the veterian were phenomenal. We felt well prepared to make decisions with the information we were provided on our cats condition. Thank you very much for your care.

samantha ledwell

I am very disappointed that this is the only emergency vet care we have available in this city. We previously had to bring our cat in for an emergency situation. $1,100 in tests later and no recommendations, besides another expensive test. We took our kitty home and brought her to our regular vet later that week, and determined, through much less expensive tests, what her issue was. Her vet also found 2 mast cell growths that the Vsc missed on their "comprehensive evaluation". Our kitty needs a high-dose steroid shot every 2-3 weeks. We had an appointment made for her this Thursday, but thus morning she started showing symptoms of her issue. I contacted the vsc to let them know I had her medical records, that showed the treatment she was on, and asked if they could administer the shot. I was told I'd have to pay the full emergency fee, their vet would do an evaluation, and even then she wouldn't be given the shot unless they thought it was the right action. We've been through 3 vet visits and finally found a treatment that worked well for her (she was perfect during the 2 weeks after the steroid injection) and these people wouldn't follow our vets recommendation and give us the shot she needed. I had the medical records and dosage and everything from her regular vet (just in case something like this were to happen over the holidays) and they would insist on me paying another $200 or more to possibly not even get her injection. This organization preys on vulnerable people who are worried about their pets and it's disgusting. And my record is under jacynthe Ledwell, so they can't just comment and say "we have no record of you on file."

Thank you for your exceptional service. My Maltese puppy has been here on several occasions. The doctors, technicians, assistants and receptionists are excellent. And a major shoutout to receptionist Mark - so amazing and pleasant and kind, made us feel very cared for and that our little one is in good hands. Can't think of a better person to have on the front lines when going through moments like this ! Mark , you are incredible!!!!!

I've been here a few times over the last few years. Always professional and sympathetic. Yes, the cost is a bit high hut when no other option when your regular vet is booked then a great place to go. They care for the animals and go over all options and help you make the best decision

Amazing service!!!! They took such great care of our dog when she was sick. They sent photos of her and kept us up to date on her condition the whole time she was there. I can’t thank you all enough for helping our sweet girl :)

We received exceptional service here. Our cat, Felix, needed surgery for a blocked bladder. They treated him so well, and they kept us informed throughout the entire process. They even sent us pictures along the way, which we appreciated so very much. We left with all the supplies and information we needed to help him recovery quickly. I wish Eastern Health treated us humans half as well as VSC treated our cat!

Okay, I get you guys are specialist but I was not impressed with the way I was treated. I brought my cat in because she was not eating, throwing up, and not drinking. $1500 later (not including the 250 fee), they couldn't tell me what was wrong. The first vet had me believing it was cancer. Then when I made the decision to bring to my regular vet, I was not impressed with how the other vet spoke to me. She basically guilt tripped me into staying. She had me believe if I took her out of their care she would die. Anyways, brought her to her regular vet and she made a full recovery. I almost put down my healthy cat. The ladies on the front desk are awesome but I will never come back.

Excellent service, went there with my cat but unfortunately didn't have enough money for what I really wanted to get done, but my cat was better when he came out, what else do u want

This place should be shut down. Overpriced money grab. $3500 to perform a procedure on my cat that at our usual clinic cost $700.We need to go back to each clinic having after hours care.To top it all off they referred to my cat in his chart as female spayed and by the incorrect name. No professionals here.

I've called twice. The first time, the lady was super helpful and understood my situation. She gave me advice and comforted me to the best of her ability. The second time I called, i was told that there was nothing they would do over the phone and if I wanted help I had to come in. The lady who answered was awkward and totally ignored the fact that I was in distress. Totally useless.

We have two husky X dogs. One, 11 years old, has never had a vet emergency. The other, 8 months old, unfortunately, just came home from her second in less than a month. Our poor girl first had an intestinal obstruction removal surgery and only weeks later an unrelated infection. I can't thank the VSC team enough for the great care in attending to her. While the cost is high, we are paying for the expert care and services provided by these amazing professionals, as well as the ability to have staff available 24/7. We felt we received great communication about her condition and never felt dismissed when we called to ask about her between the regular updates. Thank you for all that you do!

Had my little kitty shadow there with a scare the past few days now I finally have him back with me he already is coming around to being his normal silly self ???? Thank you so much to the kind wonderful staff here! Never realized just how important and NEEDED vets are until times of need You're the only place open 24 hours for emergencies of animals

I can say with certainty that this place is a tremendous resource and a wonderful asset to pet owners. Our dog has been saved twice by the folks at this clinic - once for pancreatitis, and once for laryngeal paralysis, which rendered her unable to breathe. The systems and communication is first-rate. Had this place been up and running in 2013, we wouldn't have had to have our dog sent for a previous neck issue to PEI for surgery. Its a very specialized and advanced clinic, and they know their stuff. People are free to leave whatever review they believe summarizes their experience, but a lot of the comments here are simply unfair. They have a vet (and assistants and technicians) on-site 24/7/365; that isn't free. They have diagnostic equipment - XRay, MRI, and more - that all cost a fortune. Every vet out there has to go through YEARS of schooling; every supply, material, and tool is medical grade, and costs the same as a medical doctor would pay for use on humans. They can have a radiologist review images 24/7. None of this is supported by the the province or any other level of government (and nor should it be - that's not my point). My point is, in addition to treating us, our dog, and our finances with utmost respect, this place offers something that is needed here. If you'd rather not pay the money, that's totally fair and completely legit. To say the place is "only worried about money" is laughable. Some people seem to think vets should work for free, and that they buy their supplies, equipment, and tools at Costco or something. Make the choice that suits your needs, to be sure, and don't spend beyond what you think is reasonable. But don't be surprised when a facility better equipped and staffed than most hospitals in this province has to charge enough to justify their significant investment. From Maybelline, our beagle, a great many thanks for all you do! Hope not to need you anytime soon, but its comforting to know you're there.
