Dr. Mike Cormier is the most exceptionally kind, down-to-earth, human, and compassionate individual, doctor, and scientist I have encountered. He will sit on the floor and hand feed an anxious dog treats until he earns their comfort and trust. Equally, he is gifted at connecting with humans, providing sensible and empathetic medicine in times of great sorrow, challenge, and day-to-day routine. He is non-judgmental and takes the time to offer his elaborate understanding of veterinary medicine in relatable terms. He always goes above and beyond and is humble about it. Thank you so much Dr. Emily Simpson. There are a lot of Vets at this clinic. Most are very knowledgeable but Dr. Simpson is the best in the City!. Dr. Emily Simpson stands out in a class of her own. I have had many dogs in my life and i have dealt with many vets. My conclusion about Emily is that she is brilliant and caring and took a very careful and well though out treatment plan to totally cure my Poodle Marley of 2 conditions that were concurrently happening. . I started seeing Dr Simpson a month into the problem ( so she was thrown into this). My first impression was how she took at least half an hour to review the file to know exactly what was going on and then she assessed Marley thoroughly .. Marley, had a terrible itchy paw condition that was so bad that he was not eating food, loosing weight and chewing on his paws till they got raw. No other vet took the time to culture his paws, which should have been done initially, and coincidentally he initially ate some bones from the trash while on the Topagen spray). I now know that Topagen can cause dogs to do things they normally dont do ....like getting into the garbage. While treating Marley Dr Emilly Simpson emailed me and telephoned me at least twice a week for at least a month to see how our treatment plan was working. It was a complicated routine of alternating days of sprays and foot baths and different medications while introducing the right food slowly.. Dr. Simpson kept in touch the entire time relentlessly reminding me of the routine and saw Marley weekly ( for free) to re culture and reassess him. .I have never in my life seen such diligence, compassion and genuine brilliance in a Vet. To make a long story short Dr Emily Simpson, properly diagnosed Marley and followed a very complicated and well thought out treatment plan that saved his life.. Dr Simpson could have referred him out to a specialist but she was better than any specialist. NO more itchy paws, good appetite, no sign of a scar from surgery and just one happy doggy and Mommy. Marley is now the happiest 10.5 year old poodle and thankfully he doesn't remember anything. I owe his life and the good quality of it now totally to Dr Emily.Simpson. Thank you Emily and I also thank all the front desk staff for being there for both Marley and me and always making appointments happen so efficiently including Rhonda, Colleen, Kim, Carol and Debbie. You are all so compassionate and kind.! Marley will only be seeing Dr Emily Simpson for anything and Everything. She deserves the award for best Vet in the city! Thank you so much Dr. Simpson and the staff at Secord for the best Care! Toby Maya and Marley Britstone! .

Secord has proven to be a good fit for us and our dog. They have been willing to take our input on the overall care approach. We also use them for boarding which has again worked well. What is preventing 5 stars is the high prices, which, to be fair, is true of any veterinary clinic in Canada.

Dr. Mike is the most caring doctor we have ever met. He genuinely wants to find the best solution for you and your pet both financially and well being. His knowledge of animals and their behaviour is astounding, being able to break medical concepts and terms into something that can be simply understood. When you meet him, you feel that you are in safe hands, and what's great about him is that he knows how to make your pet feel safe with him as well. We travel an hour just for his knowledge and secord's amazing service. We cannot recommend them highly enough.

HOLY EXPENSIVE! Believe me I take excellent care of my pet, but I have NEVER paid $100 for a "Well Pet Visit". The point is my pet was WELL! I only needed a rabies shot for my healthy dog - and came out of the office with a bill for $100 for the "office visit" and $20+ bucks for the rabies shot. Buyer beware. I was also told I could have my 7 year old dog's tiny fatty lump removed. I said "no, I'm not putting my dog under anesthesia for a fatty bump that is natural for dogs her age to have". I immediately thought of all of the people who do risk anesthesia for procedures that are unnecessary because a vet says "you could...". No thanks. I have a reference for about 5 other vets in the area that don't charge you a ton of money for preventative care.

If there is one word to describe this clinic it’s “inconsistent.” Each of our pets experienced this at one time or another in terms of diagnosis and or treatment plan, one with tragic results. Before you walk in do your research on VCA and Mars Petcare. They are a massive global enterprise. They are consistent in collecting your hard earned money though. Buyer beware.

Secord Animal Hospital is by far the best Vet clinic in Toronto. I travel all the way from Downtown Toronto ( College and Dovercourt) to make sure my dog is getting the best possible care. Ive been working in the pet industry since 2008 and have heard many bad stories coming from my clients about the clinics they take their pets to. Every time a client asks me for a recommendation on a vet clinic I always tell them to visit Secord Animal Hospital. Every client I tell they always say "wow that's far" that's when I turn around and say "I can tell you its totally worth the drive". I find the service to be incredible and the prices are very reasonable compared to some vet clinics in my area. I have had the pleasure of having Dr. Mike Cormier and Dr. Mark Teeger look after the health of my Boxers Spanky and Crixus. I couldn't Recommend any better Vets then these two. Secord Animal Hospital also has a Holistic Vet Dr. Sherebrin who has also helped with my boxers health as well.

We've been going to Secord for almost 2 years with my dog and everything has been great. Very friendly and professional staff (vets, receptionists, groomers). We love the product selection, the health plan and the services (grooming and boarding). We have even registered to the training sessions and play dates in the same clinic, so my dog actually loves visiting and he's always hopeful he'll meet with his friends. It covers all the bases.

I cannot thank Secord groomer Mia enough for the care she showed my dog Mukluk today. Muks is 15, cannot see or hear well and has trouble standing for long periods of time. She is also afraid of groomers but not Mia! Mia was so kind and patient and gentle and gave Muks such a good groom. She has been much more happy and cool since her new hair cut and it has made caring for her so much easier. Run don't walk to Secord grooming and ask for Mia! You will not be disappointed!!!!!

I have been a client of Secord Animal Hospital for over 50 years. Recently I asked for more of my dog's medication Topagen and was told that as my doctor was away and would not return until 4 weeks later I would have to book and pay for another appointment with a different doctor. I have had two appointments this spring with Dr Cormier; the last one was July 10th regarding the same problem which is an itchy sore rash. At that time the medication that was effective was not in stock so he gave me antibiotic pills which had no effect. I don't need another appointment; I need the medication which is now in stock. I was told the doctor would call me. He didn't.

After my dog passed away a few days ago, I came to the realization that Secord Animal Hospital waited too long in sending my dog to see a specialist. My dog was diagnosed with kidney disease a few years ago. Only basic routine check-ups were performed. When the disease progressed, no thorough examination was performed (x-ray, ultra sound) to see if there were any other underlying issues or to check the kidneys. It was only when the blood work revealed very serious issues, that I was sent to see a specialist. When the ultra sound was performed, a large tumour was discovered on the spleen. There were also concerns about her heart. The operation was performed, the tumour was removed (non-malignant). Unfortunately the kidney disease had progressed too far. My dog passed away (put to sleep) from respiratory failure. During this time, several visits were made to the emergency clinic. Before the visit to the specialist, I had requested copies of the blood work from Secord Hospital. It took 2 emails (2 days) to receive the copies. The report from the specialist was sent to Secord and filed in "limbo." No one from Secord contacted me until after the operation. The vet was very apologetic for the delay in contacting me and about the misfiling of the specialist's report. I informed the vet that I was very upset with respect to Secord's lack of communication (I didn't think I should be contacting the vet to see if the specialist's report had been received - I was more concerned about the operation) and Secord's mismanagement of files. On the day that my dog passed away, I had contacted Secord Hospital and asked to see if a specific vet could see my dog I let the receptionist know that it was an emergency and that my dog had taken turn for the worst. The vet did not come to the phone. The receptionist, after speaking to the vet, told me to go to an emergency clinic. This was the right decision, but I felt it was very impersonal on behalf of the vet as the vet knew how concerned I was about my dog. I did receive follow-up telephone calls after every visit I made to the emergency clinic and an email after my dog passed away. Lessons learned from this experience - be informed, do not rely on your vet to know all the answers, ask for fuller examinations or opinions from specialists if you feel they are warranted. Your pet is part of your family - not the vet's.

DO NOT GO HERE! These people are nothing but money grab. I recently moved areas and had went to a different VCA location before moving to this area. I mentioned at the time of appointment that I have already had an examination done at a different location and so can I use the free examination for this location. I was told yes. I went for my appointment and halfway thru the doctor says that I will not get the exam compensated and I need to take my cat away if I can't pay in full for the visit. I explained what I was told during booking but Jennifer McMullen the vet changed her tone quite fast and talked to me in a very condescending manner. Needless to say I am never coming back to VCA. If you make a mistake own up to it instead of belittling people.

Just a very straightforward and simple example of how this clinic does not uphold the values of beneficence and putting me health and well-being of animals first. I needed to pick up a specific dosage and formulation of medication before going out of town and the branch of VCA animal hospital that I usually go to did not have the specifics my dogs required. Same company. Big conglomerate. Vet clinic to vet clinic they communicated with each other and found that this branch did have what I needed on such short notice and with limited flexibility on my part it would’ve been extremely helpful, and the only way my dogs could receive the medication m, if they would’ve allowed me to purchase from them with the prescription from my clinic. You wouldn’t think that there would be a problem for a patient from a sister hospital to obtain medication from them. In all honesty, it really should not affect them in a single negative way. A simple, extremely doable transaction that would’ve allowed my dogs to get the protection they needed when they needed it and would have saved me from needing to use a completely different medication and method,... you would think that they would’ve been happy for the sake of the dogs and the customer to help. To be neighbourly. To put the animals first. To care. To be nice. To cooperate. To do a favour. It’s all the same company guys. It’s also a completely legitimate transaction. It’s not like they would have been left empty handed or shorthanded or they couldn’t replace the medication two days later with an order. But what was their answer? They didn’t want to feel like a pharmacy. Nope. Sorry. You can’t get the medication from us. Even if that means you can’t get it anywhere, I guess that’s just too bad. Not gonna help you. I wish I could say this was a place you could count on, but this is what happened. Thanks guys. Pleasure. ????
