Great place to pick up the specialized food our Yorkie loves
Good place
Fast service.
First time there and it went very well. Friendly and knowledgeable staff.
I did not take my pet here. I wanted to find some specific cat food that was Urinary Vet certified and they did not carry it. I was able to find better food that was vet certified at Pet Value on Lansdowne St.
This place deserves less than one star. My father took our second cat here to get some tests done and $1,600 later it was inconclusive. They took liquid out of his abdomen and even did an ultrasound and still came up with nothing. My father then took the cat to another place and concluded that he had an incurable disorder after just one vet visit or taking more liquid out. If it wasn't for getting a second opinion we wouldn't have known what was wrong and sadly have to put him down on Saturday after the vet called with some more information about him. We used to bring our first cat here all the time but we don't know what happened with the old vet that was here. They were so good with him and when the time came even put him down for us. Beware of this place now!
Disappointed after First Visit: Regrettably, my experience with VCA Canada Mackay Animal Hospital was met with an unskilled and upselling vet, unsolved animal problem, and an expensive bill. I came for a 'potential' skin issue and ended up with a conversation on having to put my dog under a surgery procedure for biopsy, without ruling out all the other possibilities. Needless say, the visit was for nothing and with me suggesting the course of action. Kammy Punniamoorthy, DVM, appeared distracted and did not have a comprehensive answer nor intelligible explanation. The cost of consultation per unit is more expensive than that of my previous vet clinic's in downtown Toronto. Please take your animals elsewhere.
It's very hard when you lose a pet due to old age, when we got our cat (Mindy) cremated , we chose a vase for her ashes, they charged us over $100 to change the colour from blue to pink, an extra $100 for a different color, we didn't want a big one, we wanted the small one and had to pay $100 for a different color, what a way to take money away from someone who lost a LOVED PET,
Efficient money sucking machine, no doubt about. Vaccines given and charged for without being discussed. Selling pressure for flee/tick drugs you pet may not need. Ok if you want to have quick service for rabies shot or blood work but beware of selling pressure. I guess it's the name of the game these days. Treat like a walk in clinic nothing more.
friendly & helpful
They took amazing care of my dog. The dog was happy & not scared. Staff was nice, Very clean, even in the corners.
My family has been taking our pets here for 20 plus years. It's where I bring my own pets now as they have the best staff around the girls are always so kind! Highly recommend if you are looking for a new vet to care for your pet, you won't be disappointed and most importantly with new covid regulations you can trust what they do.
Very knowledgable staff offering compassionate appointment based and emergency services.
Absolutely horrible experience. Prescribed treatment actually caused condition that would have cost 10000 plus to treat and then no guarantees. Misdiagnosis and lies. Money grubbing bastards is all they are. NEVER TAKE YOUR PET TO THESE PEOPLE. WE JUST PUT OUR DOG DOWN YESTERDAY BECAUSE OF THEM .
The staff here is great. The level of care is second to none. I feel very happy and safe having them look after my dog Lou.
Always great with my dogs/cats. Does not try to push unnecessary meds or bloodwork . Will not go anywhere else.
Great animal hospital, the staff are very friendly and responsive. The in-house pet insurance is worth getting
Great care and service here, we've gone through many different stages with our pets at MacKay and they've been incredible the entire way.
Very friendly staff eager to help me out
Good communication, tbe team of vets are great and staff very friendly.
Great staff
Used to be a 5 star vet, now they're worth less than one star. Our old vet was fantastic with our cat, she did all of his appointments from kitten to over a year, and we all loved him (myself, boyfriend, and the cat). Our cat used to purr so loudly with her that she had to turn on the tap in order to hear his heartbeat. Took him in for his annual exam and rabies vaccination, and the entire visit was one frustration after another. I got the reminder phone call the day before, where I was told I HAD to bring in a fecal sample, but not to worry, it was part of the annual exam. I was also told my appointment was for two and a half hours earlier than I'd scheduled it, which wasn't a huge deal, I wasn't busy all day. We got to the appointment, and were surprised to see a new vet we hadn't seen before, with no explanation as to why we weren't seeing our usual vet. She then proceeded to weigh our cat in at 7.2kg (15.86lbs), despite my having weighed him only a couple weeks earlier at 9lbs. She then tried to convince us to stop free-feeding him, despite being told several times that we have a second cat who is significantly smaller, so scheduled feeding wouldn't work well anyway, as they have to eat different amounts, and both graze regardless. They often don't even finish all the food I put out, and I do measure and track how much I leave out anyway. I was told to consider diet food, the cat doesn't even LOOK overweight, he's no where near heavy enough to consider special food. Then she tried to convince us to buy a synthetic pheromone spray, because after three days our cat hadn't accepted the new cat. (It usually takes around a week for cats to warm up to each other). We were then told we should be treating our INDOOR cats for fleas, despite both of them having already been treated, and when we mentioned that, were told to treat them once a month during all the warm months of the year. The exam took twice as long as usual because she wasn't good with the cat, she was handling him rather roughly, and he kept trying to leap off the table. When she offered him a treat, it was one that I recognised as a dog treat (the old vet accidentally reached in the wrong jar at the last appointment and we joked about it). The jar of cat treats wasn't even out. We finally went to check out and discovered our total was $75 more than expected. All the prices had been raised, AND we were charged for the fecal sample that I was told was part of the annual exam. We were mislead about charges, pressured to buy things we didn't need, shamed for our cat's weight, and left feeling very angry, with no money left for the week, and a very angry cat.
Dr. Butler, Dr. Punniamoorthy and the rest of the staff at the clinic always go above and beyond when helping us with our furbabies (two dogs and two cats). It's truly comforting to know they have our pets' best interest and health in mind. After each visit, the clinic calls to make sure they're doing well and even communicates through emails (rather lengthy on my end!) with me to make sure our cats have the best and right amount of food to stay healthy. I must admit, I was a bit concerned when the clinic went "corporate" but I'm so happy to see that the clinic is run the same way it was when I was child when we would take our cats for their checkups.
Switching vets. Don't like paying full price for another appointment because the medication they prescribed didn't work. Ordered special food like they recommended, but they never called me back to let me know if it came in or not. I called them and it turns out that it was never ordered and so I asked them to order it again and never heard anything back... Again. I feel they're just interested in getting your money than actually helping your pet... There are some pro's: staff is nice and they will call you a few days after an appointment to see how everything is going.
My dog took I'll Wednesday. Tried to get him in Friday. Had to go to another vet after 10 years with Mackay they wouldn't see him. Put him down 30 minutes ago . Never go to Mackay again
Price wasn't bad and my dog always seems happy when we go inside.
I have been taking my animals here for almost 10 years and there is no better Vet than Dr. Butler. All the staff at the clinic are friendly, knowledgeable and professional. Highly recommend
The greatest experience I have ever had at any vet clinic. They were very kind and informative. This was my little mans first visit with this clinic and they were so good with him. I recommend this Vet Clinic to anyone who has animals.
Can’t say enough about this place to say how positive my experience is each time I visit. Staff are phenomenal and my pet never minds going there.
Dr. Hilary Butler very personable and friendly as well as professional. Explains well on examination of my pet.
Lovely staff who really care about our dogs.
We've been going there since we moved to Whitby in 1988 for both our cats and dogs! Staff is super nice and vets as well and very knowledgeable.
Great team. Great people. I would definitely recommend
I have had nothing but positive experiences here. The vets are amazing as well as the other staff members. They always have smiles on their faces and are always willing to listen. I would highly recommend them.
Dr Butler is our vet she is amazing
The staff was very friendly and helpful my friend had to take her cat in for tests. We did not have to wait too long.
The girls are very kind and welcoming! Awesome care provider for my pets I highly recommend!
I have been to this office for all of my puppies shots and check ups. Every time my vet has been knowledgeable, helpful and personable! I recently had to come in for an emergency visit due to a sudden illness in my dog. They booked me and my dog in right away! And not only that, but the vet that looked after us, Hilary Butler went above and beyond. She stayed and talked out several scenarios and possible causes which took longer than I'd imagine a regular visit should. She stayed patient and determined to help me find the cause, not only did we find the cause but she also did it with kindness and understanding. After the visit the office called in to check on my dog the day after to make sure everything was still okay. Little things like that go a long way to helping me feel like my pet is well cared for. I would HIGHLY recommend this vet's office to anyone, but specifically to first time pet owners, they have helped me feel so confident in the care of my puppy!
They kept my cats who are a big part of the family healthy over the years
AWESOME STAFF, GREAT WORK, KEEP IT UP GUYS. :)
Dr. Maria Segura is an amazing Vet! She shows her care and compassion to both her animal clients and their humans. I changed Vets after meeting Dr. Maria and so glad I did. My dog is no longer stressed when needing to go to the vets. Thank you
Used to take my dog there. They misled me(while collecting vaccinnation sales)and irresponsibly delayed important letter resulting in my dog being muzzled. Be very careful, keep your pets safe and away from this place.
My girlfriend has been taking her dog here for 7 years. Recently, MacKay called to inform her that she had a pending fee for a second blood test that was done on the dog because the first blood test returned a false positive. My girlfriend politely mentioned over the phone that she didnt agree with the charge. Not refusing to pay, but just that she was somewhat dissatisfied with the fact that she had to pay twice for essentially the same test. An hour later she received an email from MacKay threatening to take her to collections if the outstanding fee was not paid immediately. After 7 years, thousands of dollars paid to this vet, they threaten to take her to collections because she respectfully disagreed with one fee. The fee was just $47. Are you kidding? Bye Bye MacKay
Do not take your pet to MacKay. High doctor turnaround, low experience of new graduates and tunnel vision in diagnostics makes for poor service. When Piper, my companion of 16 years fell sick, we visited MacKay three times in a span of eight days. We were prescribed a variety of medication but no blood work was suggested at any time. Instead hospitalization and later heart ultrasound were suggested (Piper had a heart condition since 2016). The day of the last visit, Saturday night, based on Piper's symptoms and some research I realized she was in toxic shock. We took her to the Animal Emergency Clinic in Oshawa and asked for the blood analysis. The results were provided within 30 minutes and indicated 75% kidney failure. Because of the weak heart no effective treatment was possible. We received proper diagnostics and were able to make a sound decision. Piper "went softly into the night" the same night. Her suffering ended. If you can pass the unfriendly reception at the Animal Emergency Clinic you will find an excellent service there. They also lowered their fee from $165 to $99. Full lab and 24/7 service are amazing.
Excellent great job
We took my Mom with her sick cat. Even though we had to wait in the parking lot they were thorough and the young assistants were very sweet.
Very caring vet. Ive been having tummy issues with my <1yr old lab and they keep me in the loop with what the plan of action is and don't just jump into making me pay for every test in the book. They see me often on short and are about concerns/questions I have over the phone as well
Stopped by to buy some toothpaste and the staff members I interacted with over the phone and in person were lovely. ????
I have been a client of Mackey's for 45 years and their wonderful doctors, technicians and support staff have always treated my pets and I with care and compassion.
Love this place! The staff are SO friendly and everyone that works there are genuinely interested/concerned for your animal! Couldnt ask for a better place to take it pet
Yep
Dr. Butler is very caring and experienced. She provides valuable information so that I’m confident in looking after my fur baby.
Absolutely the worst place ever, Took my 4 year old dog there for treatment of a wound, Within five days after the wound was supposedly fine just wash every day my dog died. They offered me no help or anything, just asked for more money to have him disposed of What kind of animal hospital allows animals to leave when they are still sick!!! Absolutely ridiculous and i honestly hope this place seizes to exist. Also staff are not very helpful until the money comes out of your pocket. Also they should be regulated for pricing like dentists are instead of charging us hundreds of dollars to kill an animal after treatment! M Dog's Vet - DR. Melanie Dell
$$$$ too much $$$$
I used to take my dog to MacKay. They scheduled a visit for me to get one of his shots done, we arrived and waited to find out they didn't have the shot in stock. They told me they would give us his other shots this visit, and have us come back to get his original shot done with no visitation fee. We came back to get it done and they billed us for the visit, when I asked, they told us the best they could do was half off even though they scheduled us strictly to get the shot he didn't have. So I was charged for the first visit, and half of the second (which we wouldn't have had to come back for if they had his shot in the first place).I switched vets and also found out I was paying nearly double to go to MacKay than other Vet Hospitals.
Helpful staff, excellent quality of care.
They were the kindest people that I have met in a very long time. Excellent with my little lady and treated her with total respect. Thank you for everything
Awesome vet!!! Dr. Butler is Sidney's favorite. Always friendly staff. Helpful. Being going there for almost 11 years for Sidney and 6 years for my other boxer Zack
Ordered a prescription for my pet and it was ready for pickup the next day.
I cant give a tip?
Great service nice caring people
Beware if you have a big scary looking terrified dog whose never hurt a soul, he or she would get treated like a criminal for just being alive by a bunch of awkward, uncaring, unprofessional staff members who are terrible at reading animal body language. All this place knows how to do well is guilt trip you into spending more money on your pet and maybe putting some poison on them for ticks and fleas, sometimes even get you to pay for things they don't even have at the moment, but hey, pay for it now and you'll get a call when it arrives... They will not even truly listen to what you tell them, just write down what they interpret (eg. I had a dog that went on hikes and long bike rides at least once a week and when I asked to see a copy of his file I noticed the vet had put a note down that the dog was only let out in the backyard! My dog had arguably a more adventurous life than my teenage brother does, it sadly may have even played a role into delaying the diagnosis) And when something was slightly off with the bloodwork, they didn't do anything about it. I only found out two years after with some new bloodwork results of my seriously ill dog, that there were early signs from 2 years prior that no one had told us anything about. I guess I should at least be thankful the vet admitted to this. Nevertheless I'm thankful i know where not to take any animals in the future. But terribly sorry to my dog that had to experience this place.
Don't risk your pets...maybe one good vet...if she is available. Went there for 20 years and the past few were horrible (after incorporation). Lots of changeovers in vets and their capabilities. The place was deteriorating and was always empty toward the end. So glad I changed vets.
Wonderful, friendly staff. I recommend this place to any of my friends in the area with pets!
