You have all the feddbacks of real people who consume the services and products of Upper Canada Animal Hospital (Veterinarian) in the area of Argentia (Canada).
Currently the business receives a rating of 4.9 stars over 5 and the rating has been calculated on 127 reviews.
As you can see the average of ratings is almost the highest, and it's based on a high number of reviews, so we may say that the valuation is very accurate. If people have bothered to give their feddback when they are satisfied with the service, it works.
You know that we don't usually bother to place evaluations when these are good and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or incidence...
This Veterinarian belongs to the category of Animal hospital.
I highly recommend Upper Canada Animal Hospital. Dr. Turpel is a top notch surgeon and the rest of the staff are exemplary in their knowledge. Always courteous, thoughtful and gentle. The care they continue to render my aging Goldendoodle is second to none and much appreciated.
Cannot speak highly enough of Dr. Turpel and the entire staff and facility. I drove 4 hours from Kingston for a surgery on a recommendation. It was the best decision I have made with veterinary care for my dogs. They are honest, caring, and truly focused on making the lives of our animal friends the best they can be. I will be returning for the second surgery on one of our German Shepherds and intend on making this facility our regular vet. Yes - love it so much I am more than willing to make the 4 hour drive for our regular checkups and any other major procedures!!!!
A wonderful first experience with our new puppy Torch...a welcoming environment thanks to Tracey, and we love our new doctor Erin who gave us lots of helpful advice and information.
The Doctors, staff and hospital at Upper Canada is beyond compare! The love and attention that they provide to each animal is top notch.
Incredibly knowledgeable with the kindest service-
I cannot rave enough about Upper Canada Animal hospital. Our lovable golden retriever recently had knee surgery, and they exceeded our expectations and really went out of their way to make both our dog and us feel comfortable and concerns taken care of. They gave us many personal update phone calls, were always there to address any questions or concerns, had every detail organized and easy to follow, and even made a take-home book of her post care including photos of our dog. I cannot recommend them enough! We are so grateful for their professional care, kindness, and thoughtfulness.
I can’t say enough about UCAH - they are AMAZING! Our dog and cat have been patients of UCAH for several years and recently our dog had 2 TTA surgeries - within 6 months. The veterinarians, the technicians and the office staff are all incredibly helpful, and always available if I needed them. They phoned me the first few mornings post-op, to check-in on Buddy’s progress and to answer any questions or concerns I had. They emailed me his X-rays (pre and post-op) and explained everything in detail. They definitely go above and beyond to keep pets and parents comfortable, happy and healthy. I highly recommend them to everyone.
The staff at Upper Canada were amazing! Being new to the area, having a dog that has a condition that requires regular care we were concerned about the care we would receive. We received incredible service, support and advice for both of our dogs. Would highly recommend if you are looking for the best care for your pet.
Two pets, three knees! Dr Turpel and the staff have been great. So great that neither Foxtrot, the very skitters dog, nor Guy, the cat, are stressed at all at going to the vet. Can't recommend enough! Thanks Dr Jim!
Dr. Granacki did a complete and thorough assessment of our dog's problem. In our experience she has the ability to present a concise analysis of a problem which we appreciate. Our dog has responded well to her initial treatment and appears to be on the way to a full recovery. Quality of care is why we go to Upper Canada. Thank you Angela!
Xena my dog was taken care like a goddess royal treatment
I can't even begin to express the superior qualities of the staff and services at Upper Canada Animal Hospital. From the reception staff of Tiffany and Nicole to Manager Tracey and finally to our pet saviours Dr Angela and Dr Erin. All the staff are wonderful individuals who have true caring compassion for our furbabies.
UCAH rating should be10stars, not 5! ???? Their website/great reviews and first point of contact sold me on them. Thank you to Dr Turpel & his team for their exemplary dedication, compassion, service in the care of fur family members (and the added support provided to their owners)=:) Mika (bullmastiff) was diagnosed w/a CCL tear in her right hind leg and required TTA surgery. Dr Turpel & his team provided us with all the information regarding the injury itself, surgery and post op recovery details. Mika was sent home w/a dossier containing discharge summary, instructions, medications/schedule. This was of great aid keeping her meds/rehab schedule organized and on track. A busy Dr Turpel also called later in the evening of the day she had surgery to ask how she was doing/if I had any questions/concerns and to reach out to him or his team for any questions /concerns we may have at any time. The staff would also make regular calls to check in to see how things were going. It was comforting/reassuring to know that Mika was in great hands/was in the best care for this surgical procedure and continued to receive the same during the recovery process. I had the utmost trust/confidence in Dr Turpel & his team. Mika had her 8 week checkup a couple of days ago and she is healing well. With UCAH, your fur family members are in the best hands/care! They go above/beyond. They will exceed your expectations. Look no further. On behalf of us/Mika, thank you once again Dr Turpel and team!
Confidence. If you are looking a Team with confidence look no further. Correct diagnosis, correct surgical procedure by top notch Surgeon and correct follow-up care! Same day surgery-awesome!
Very friendly and personable staff. Dr. Turpel himself called 2x to follow up on our dog. They take great care of your pets We had cruciate tear surgery there and we highly recommend Dr. Turpel and his clinic
Super friendly and caring staff made us feel welcome from the moment of booking right to the end of our appointment. This was our first trip to this veterinary clinic, and I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone. We spoke to a few other clients outside who have plenty of experience with this clinic and are equally as happy. We noticed right away how calm and at ease our 12 week old puppy was in their care, so that made us feel even better.
I trust this place more than any veterinary clinic I have every been too - This place is the best - Thank you for all your all your help with my little herd.
The doctors and the entire staff of Upper Canada Animal Hospital are absolutely amazing! I brought my cat there for a surgical procedure (perineal urethrostomy) and they acted so quickly to get it performed. They were very diligent in his care and were wonderful at keeping me informed with plenty of updates and checking in with me once I had my boy back at home. Although the surgery was very successful, my cat did have several complications and required that a second surgery be performed. The clinic was once again incredible at accommodating and ensuring that the surgery took place right away and with just as much care as the first procedure. Additionally, the clinic was especially helpful in being mindful of finances. I am so pleased to report that my kitty is well on the road to recovery at this point, all in thanks to the efforts and love of the staff at this hospital. I would refer anyone in Niagara to this hospital and am so grateful to all of the staff members. Thank you!
We're also relatively new to the area, and wanted a vet that was close by (our cats hate the car) and are delighted with UCAH. Dr. Granacki (or Dr. Angela, as she called herself) was thorough, well informed, kind and practical. No unnecessary procedures. Staff was also very pleasant, and called the next day to see how our cat was doing. Will definitely go back.
We have been to UCAH for 2 dogs, 3 knees and have appreciated the high level of care and service they provide. Highly recommended.
We love the team at UCAH. We have always felt well cared for, and you can see how much they care about their patients in every interaction. Our dog actually pulls to go into their clinic, not out. We have been going there for 3.5 years now, for everything from wellness visits to knee surgery. Shout out to Crystal, Sarah, Dr Kanerva and Dr Turpel for going above and beyond on a routine basis, always taking the best care of our dog. 10/10 recommend this vet clinic for dog owners.
Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Nice clean environment. Truly seem to have my pet's best interest at heart. I look forward to a long relationship with this clinic.
Thanks again to everyone at Upper Canada Animal Hospital for the excellent care for my 8 year old Chihuahua “ Peanut “ Four months after major knee surgery and she has totally recovered and is acting like a puppy again !!!
Was referred by Dr. Young at Wilson's Animal Hospital and I'm so happy he did. My furbaby Olive had to have her knee done and the staff and Dr. have been absolutely amazing. The staff, all of them, truly have beautiful hearts that take care of your furbabies.
We drove in from Toronto to visit UCAH. I had both of my dog, Beau's, CCL tears fixed by Dr. Jim Turpel. One surgery was a TTA and the later surgery was an Excap repair on a very old and scarred knee. Beau healed perfectly after both surgeries with no complications. While Beau attended his appointment he received great care. The clinic was always busy, the staff were very nice, I enjoyed having a coffee while we waited to see the doctors. Dr. Erin was also very nice. Would recommend! Thank you to all the staff who helped Beau get his life back. Although the recovery process is generally stressful, Beau is now up and running and feeling great, we can't thank you enough!
Teddy remains a happy and healthy cat given the medical guidance from the excellent veterinarians at Upper Canada Animal Hospital
I've always recommended everyone to take their pets to UCAH. And this last year has really shown why that will never change. My boy Leo is on his way to a full recovery from his second TTA surgery, as he has blown both of his knees over the last 10 months. I sincerely wouldn't take him anywhere else. The love, care and attention shown by Dr. Jim, Dr. Angela, Dr. Erin, Tracy, Crystal, Sarah, and the rest of the staff that have helped and supported us has been incredible. Thank you UCAH.
Where do I start?! Upper Canada Animal Hospital, thee absolute BEST veterinary clinic! Dr Turpel is an incredible mann, icredible vet, and incredible surgeon. I was referred to them when I found out that my puppy had hip dysplasia. Dr Turpel and Griffin hit it off instantly...was so cute to see how good he was with my puppy, Griffin responded so well to him! From the first meeting they were so welcoming and loving they made me feel very comfortable answering any questions I had with no hesitation I never felt like I was bothering them. Unfortunately I wasn't able to wait the two years for the puppy to grow to get the surgery, so he went in for an emergency FHO surgery. There was a complication during surgery and Griff needed some extra care afterwards. The staff and Dr Turpel absolutely amazing accomadating to his special situation no questions asked. Dr Turpel fixed my boy up and he and the staff were in constant contact with me for updates while Griffin was in their care. Griffin absolutely loves them and they love him, I couldn't ask for a better group of people to take care of my baby. I highly recommend UCAH! They truly care about their patients and their families. I can honestly say I love UCAH, they have been nothing short of AMAZING during this difficult time for Griffin and I!! ???? They are angels, truly blessed to have met them all
My 7 yr old chocolate lab mix, Ren, just had her second TTA done by Dr Jim Turpel and I can say without a doubt that him and his entire staff (Erin, Angela, Sara, Crystal, Tegan etc!) all treated her with the utmost of care and have made both surgeries go as smooth as possible. They are always available to answer questions, going above and beyond with the compassion and kindness they show. I would highly recommend this clinic to any pet owner not only in the Niagara Region, but all over Ontario. They are well worth the journey. Thanks again for bringing my girls smile back :)
My doctor was very throigh with my dog and took plenty of time to figure out everything with my dog. They were calling me for updates every second day. Our doctor explained me everything and how to chnage my dogs diet to make sure he was well.. Very helpful, professional and through.
Dr. Erin is the best vets I have ever come across! She is very knowledgeable! She gives me tips on training, anything that would be unusual about my pup, and even showing be different ticks and what to look for! My puppy is a 12 week old Husky, we only brought her in because she wasn't feeling well and it was the only clinic open at 8AM, when we did bring her in the Vet did a full examination and on top of that the place was extremely clean. I took my pup, Orca to the vet in St. Catharine's as soon as I got her just to make sure everything was good when we brought her back from the breeder. All they did was check her heart and cut her nails, they didn't even put a new blank down for her... At Upper Animal hospital Dr. Erin even went out of her way to ask if it was our first puppy together (although we both had family dogs, we never had a puppy on our own) and when we said yes she gave us different places that we should go for training if we were going to do that option, along with talk to us about grain-free diets, raw diets, and what would be best for our pup. The one thing that stood out the most, we when she asks what the breeder used for flea and tick, I did have to tell the front desk as I was waiting for a response. The following day she called me and said that the brand doesn't cover ticks! I contacted the breeder and he thought it covered both. If Dr. Erin didn't ask about the flea and tick preventative that she was given there was a chance that she could have got a tick that carried Lyme disease. By far the best Clinic and best vet around! A place I can count on.
Incredibly knowledgeable with the kindest service-
Our senior cats are very well taken care of thanks to Upper Canada Animal Hospital. Highly recommend.
Dr. Turpel is everything you could ask for in a surgeon - knowledgeable, experienced, thorough, and most of all, caring. The staff at UCAH are extremely helpful. Thank you so much for taking care of our sweet Riley!
False representation of service and incident. For a veterinarian terrible attitude.
The staff including Dr Turpel Is very understanding and knowledgeable. My furbaby was checked on even once we got home. My only issue is wishing i could payments. Such an expensive surgery was needed. So hard in this day and age to afford life !!
Upper Canada Animal Hospital has been so amazing with my furry child. I would not take her anywhere else. From the moment we stepped foot into the facility until Ezmie completed her surgery and on we were always greeted with amazing smiles and incredible knowledge for her ongoing treatment. I have never received such service for the care of my animal and that being said I will never take her anywhere else. To Dr Turplel associates and staff you have all been wonderful! Thank you a million times!!
The treatment and care was beyond my expectations. I highly recommend Dr. Turpel for anyone having to go through a CCL. The staff kept me at ease with updates throughout our stay.
I never take time to write reviews, but I must after our visit today. Dr. Erin is exactly what you hope to find in a vet. Our pup Bogey had an appointment two weeks ago but was so scared that she gave us some anxiety meds to try and come back the following week, and even brought us outside to do the examination on this second visit. However we quickly realized that Bogey was still under too much stress so she suggested getting stronger meds and returning again in a week. Long story short, she exceeded all expectations by going above and beyond and meeting us in the car park out back without her “scary” white coat and administering his vaccines + doing the examination in the car. The visit was a total success and we can’t say enough good things about how she went about the situation and how she approached both us and our beloved Bogey. We appreciate her knowledge and advice and also the rest of the girls working in the office and are counting ourselves very lucky that a wonderful vet such as Erin is right around the corner from us. Bogey says thank you for being so patient and kind and putting my needs above all else, you’re the best vet ever. Shauna & Ricky
We have an English Bulldog who is now 13 and a Shih tzu who is 8. I can easily say that they mean the world to me. We moved from Toronto last year and liked our vet very much. I am reluctant to trust my babies with anyone but when we moved I had read a lot about Upper Canada Animal Hospital and gave them a try. I am so glad we did. My dogs love everyone there; they have no trepidation when visiting. It is like they are going to a friends and not a vet. The people there are all so kind, comforting and experienced. My English Bulldog has eye, fur, hip, anxiety and pain issues. Since we started coming to Upper Canada Animal Hospital they have taken the time to hear our concerns, examine her thoroughly and treat each issue perfectly. She is like a puppy because she is receiving such amazing care. I would not hesitate recommending them. They are always available when I call for a concern and they follow up consistently. I trust them completely and that is the most important thing to me. If you want experience, excellent service and consistency for your pets, and peace of mind for yourself this is the vet for you.
We had such a scare with our new fur baby Memphis. Memphis thinks he can do almost everything but as he tried to be super puppy he broke his leg. My husband and I are so grateful to the staff and Dr. Turpel. Thanks to all of you Memphis is almost back to himself ❤️❤️❤️????????
I've been dealing with Upper Canada Hospital for almost 3 yrs now with my dog Saber who when I first brought her in as a puppy who had a broken leg they were the best I will not go to anyone else but them cause they are so passionate with her and always have time to explain stuff to me.
Upper Canada Animal Hospital is amazing. From the moment we call into the front desk, all the way through to our visit and the follow-up afterwards - the care is excellent and always welcoming. If 6 out of 5 stars were possible, we would be rating it a 6! Dr. Erin Kanerva, is the most dedicated and caring vet; she is an immense talent and we are very grateful to have her as our vet. We simply cannot say enough positive things about the ENTIRE staff and team of vets at UCAH. 6 out of 5 stars! Highly recommend.
Our 8-year old Black Lab recently underwent a TTA which was performed by Dr. Jim. Our older Lab had surgery at a different clinic, so I feel I can provide a pretty good review considering this is our 3rd TTA experience at two separate orthopedic clinics. With respect the initial consult, we were impressed with the doctors explanation of the problem, surgery and availability to us should we have questions after the consult. In terms of the surgery, all went well and we received regular updates as to our girl's recovery. The staff never seemed bothered or annoyed with me when I was calling for updates!! The hospital kept George overnight which was different from the clinic we used previously with our other dog. At first I was hesitant because I wanted her home where we could keep an eye on her, but ultimately I am glad that she stayed the night and was able to rest comfortably and have a re-check the next morning. It gave me piece of mind that she was assessed numerous times and had the "go" post anesthesia. This is different than the previous clinic we used where the dog went home the day of surgery - it was difficult to gauge how well pain was controlled as he was still recovering from anesthesia / epidural. I think keeping her overnight was more advantageous in terms of pain management compared to my experiences bringing a dog home hours after surgery. I especially appreciated that the ultrasound treatments were done as part of her hospital stay and that I didn't have to drive back and forth to have them done during the recovery period. We were sent home with an extensive summary of her surgical procedure and discharge notes. Very thorough and detailed - I think my dog receives better medical care than my kids do. All in all, the recovery went smoothly and the surgery was a success. Being that this was our 3rd TTA we were well versed in the recovery & physio exercises. Comparatively speaking, she recovered as quickly as our other Labrador who had his TTA surgeries done by a different surgeon. As expected, 8-week x-rays were good and all restrictions have been lifted. I'd highly recommend this clinic and the TTA procedure in general. It's not a "cheap" fix, but it has definitely restored mobility and activity to both my dogs. We were so happy with the care at UCAH that we have since brought our older lab to the clinic for Senior Care / Assessment and Treatment. I feel the staff are very honest and forthcoming, recommend appropriate action and are empathetic to the owners concerns / wishes. I would not hesitate to recommend this clinic to a friend!
I wish human health care experiences were as wonderful as what we encountered at Upper Canada Animal Hospital. Dr. Turpel showed amazing love and compassion to our dog (Mya) when she went in for her Cruciate Ligament Tear surgery. He spent loads of time making her comfortable, and even more explaining the condition, procedure and recovery process to us. He also provided all possible options with detailed descriptions of the procedure, success rates, and potential outcomes. It's worth noting he explained all this whilst sitting on the floor giving Mya loads of loves. We received a call from Dr. Turpel personally post surgery giving us an update on how the procedure went as well as other thing he noted during the procedure. As an added bonus, we received an electronic copy of her x-ray post surgery so we can see what actually happened inside our dog. The next day when we picked Mya up we were presented a detailed document of the procedure, a detailed orthopaedic recovery schedule to use as a daily guide, as well as a comprehensive explanation of how to perform recovery activities (massage, icing etc). Dr. Turpel also followed up with a call to check on Mya once we had her home, as well as providing his personal email in case we need to ask any questions after hours. Overall, we can not say enough about the professionalism of the hospital and all of it's staff, and the care provided to our precious family member. We would unreservedly recommend this hospital for any owner looking for the best possible treatment of their pet.
Dr. Turpel and his staff did it again! My 2 year old rottie tore her left cruciate ligament in 2015. We went to see Dr. Turpel at that point and he advised that her right could go in a year. He was right.... A year later went. Dr. Turpel did a TTA on both and I am so happy with the results. I had almost gone with doing a TPLO since the vets that are in my area only do this type of surgery. I am so glad I decided to drive to Niagara to see Dr. Turpel. Brooklyn started walking as soon as I picked her up - shows no signs of discomfort and her leg looks amazing!
The staff are friendly and kind to the humans and the animals. They are always accommodating when an urgent need arises. They follow up with you about your pets progress.
Fist time visit !!!!! Incredible, caring, thorough, enthusiastic, professional, cheerful, clean, fun, where do I stop? From the moment my girl and I walked in , until we left, we were treated with the best service one could ever ask for. I recommend Upper Canada to anyone - Thanks Dr.K and Dr. G, and the girls
Portia’s mom we love the upper Canada animal hospital they are so. awesome , so happy with the surgery very would definitely recommend them to everyone!!!!they care so much for the furry friends that come to the hospital ….would never go anywhere else…and Portia loves them to bits….
Dr. Turpal is absolutely amazing. By far one of the very best veterinary surgeons in all of Canada, possibly even North America! He performed 2 knee replacements on my 6 year old dog Chester whithin the span of 8 months. His staff are amazing. I have never seen anyone be so good with my dog. They are incredibly knowledgeable and informed me of many details I otherwise never would have thought of. They get to know you and your animal as individuals. They called several times after both the procedures to check up on, not only my dog, but how my family was handling everything. I would recommend this Animal hospital to anyone!!!
Dr Turpel and the vets are amazing!! Krystal the receptionist was help kind and patient in helping me finds ways to pay my bill. I had my dogs knee repaired here. We were given all the important information about her surgery and aftercare. I definately recommend here for any sort of orthopedic veterinary surgery.
I was referred to Upper Canada Animal Hospital by my veterinarian for a CCL surgery for my little guy, Opie. From my first call to UCAH to discuss our next steps, to the consult with Dr. Turpel & throughout the surgery, I have been amazed by their attention to detail and how they've put me at ease. The updates throughout the day of surgery, the personalized recovery plan they created for me and the follow-up calls to see how he's doing at home have been such a comfort, as I was definitely more nervous about everything than Opie ever was. He's just a few days post-surgery, but I'm very hopeful that we'll get through our recovery with ease thanks to how much they care. Everyone has been attentive and helpful with my questions and we are looking forward to our first check-up in a few days. Thank you!
These people do an amazing job showing your family pet love and caring during a very stressful and challenging time.
Quite simply THE BEST vet clinic in the Niagara Region. I have been a client for years, and my pets have received exceptional care. Dr. Erin K is compassionate and intelligent--I trust her beyond all measure. Checking in with Crystal, Sara and Beth is a pleasure and they take care of all our insurance needs and food orders. Vet techs are professional and know their stuff. They have helped us through a number of medical emergencies and treat our pets like family.
We had a great experience with Upper Canada Animal Hospital and especially Dr. Turpal and the staff that assisted our dog. Our dog had a cruciate tear that was surgically fixed, which required him to have an overnight stay. We received updates before surgery, immediately after surgery and 4 more times until we picked him up the next day. We even received a follow up call from the surgeon and hospital the following day to ensure our dog was adjusting well at home. They are very attentive with the care they provide and highly knowledgeable, we never had a question unanswered. We were provided with all the verbal and written information we could have asked for and most importantly, they cared for our dog like their own.
Dr. Turpel and Dr. Erin and the entire team at Upper Canada Animal Hospital have been amazing. My dog had major hip surgery and the results in one week are simply phenomenal. The surgery that should have taken an hour took about 3 or 4 because Dr. Turpel is such a perfectionist, he wasn't 100% happy with post surgery x rays, he decided to go back and make further corrections. Autumn had surgery one week ago and if it wasn't for the cone of shame and the stiches she'd be fully back to normal. The group at Upper Canada called daily for the first week and checked up on Autumn! I would never go anywhere else. I can’t thank you enough.
I really can’t say enough to capture how amazing this vet hospital is. I’m truly blown away by how kind, compassionate, and caring Dr. Turpel and all of his staff are. All the way from the initial consult to the post-op period, they were always available and willing to answer any question we had and even checked up on us on their own will. I’d have no doubt any pet is in the best hands here. We came out here from Toronto and it was 200% worth the long drive.
We had entropion surgery done here a number of years ago for our chow, Kuma. Everybody was super polite and friendly. Nobody felt rushed and we were given all of the time we needed to have things explained thoroughly. I want to personally thank Dr Turpel one more time for doing such a fantastic job.
When our cat broke her leg they gave us great advice and took care of her right away. She's back home now healing up and I couldn't be happier
We had received an awful and incorrect diagnosis for little Ella. Thank goodness we found Upper Canada Animal Hospital. Jim set us straight in the first few minutes, and relieved our anxiety. The staff was phenomenal and everyone took such good care of Ella and us, that we can't recommend them enough. She has fully recovered from her knee surgery and we couldn't be happier.
Our 7 yr old sheppard x husky tore his CCL and needed surgery. Our vet highly recommended Dr Jim Turpel from Upper Canada Animal Hospital Niagara on the Lake I highly recommend this hospital. The entire staff are amazing. The level of care and professionalism is beyond 5 star. The after surgery take home information booklet is personalized to your pet and no question is left unanswered. Thank you again for the love and care you have given our boy Timber.
I don't even know where to begin. From the time I sent an email request in, they got back to me within 2 minutes. Then, I was booked for an appointment that fit my schedule. My puppy hasn't had good luck at vets and would have to be muzzled and vets/vet techs couldn't go near without a bark. My puppy walked right in, was nervous of a new place (Covid Puppy) and was greeted by the most welcoming staff. He was being loved by all the ladies, didnt cry or bark, got lots of treats and just the best care by the Doctors. THANK YOU so much!!! Toby loves his new vet!
A true professional experience and an informative visit every time. I will trust all my animals in the hands of Upper Canada Staff going forward, and I live 2-3 hours away! 20/10
Dr Turple and the team of everyone I came into contact with were absolutely the best. I have a large rather aggressive mastiff/rotti with a ACL tear, and they knew exactly how to handle him. I can't say enough good things about this Veterinary Hospital!! If you need this or any service, THIS IS THE BEST MOST CARING VET IN THE COUNTRY!!!
If I could give 10 stars, I would! Our 1 yr old pug, Beau, needed surgery for a "Luxating Patella" this past April, and our vet referred us to a surgeon in Mississauga... while waiting weeks to hear from this surgeon, I started looking elsewhere and found UCAH. After 1 phone call, UCAH booked us in for a consultation & surgery a few days later, and also gave us a rough price estimate and recovery schedule so we knew what to budget and expect (which no other Surgeon would do, unless we paid for a consult with them). The consultation with Dr. Turpel was amazing, and put us as such ease for leaving our baby girl with them for the surgery. He came to the parking lot for the consult, and took his time listening to our concerns and our dog's history, explaining the surgery/possible unexpected things he might run into, and answering all of our questions. With our own vet, we felt rushed, but with Dr. Turpel, we felt so respected and valued, and that he truly cared about our Beau. We trusted him immediately. Everyone we interacted with at UCAH was so personable, kind and empathetic. They sent Beau home with a binder of paperwork, including a letter from Dr. Turpel on how the surgery went, next steps, recovery schedule, and other helpful information for preventing the same issue in her other leg. The icing on the cake was a selfie of Beau and a Technician printed on the front page of the binder... That just showed us how well cared for Beau was during her sleepover at UCAH! They followed up regularly via telephone on how our Beau was doing, answering questions/concerns, and reassuring us that we were doing an amazing job (which meant the world to us). Dr. Turpel also made it very clear that we could contact him directly if something urgent came up with Beau. All in all, Beau is now fully recovered from her surgery, and for the first time in 6 months, running around on 4 legs.. happy and strong! We cannot thank Dr. Turpel, UCAH and their entire team, enough... I am so so thankful this level of expertise and specialization is in Ontario. HIGHLY recommended!
I would give more than 5 stars if I could. This is elite healthcare for animals! Dr. Turpel and his team are wonderful.. So much expertise kindness and compassion. It is clear that everyone who works there is an animal lover. Our "boy" had knee surgery and his recovery has been amazing. The team at Upper Canada Animal Hospital are with you through the whole experience - from a much appreciated post-surgical phone call from Dr. Turpel himself, to a check-in first night home, a personalized chart (that included a rehab schedule) and follow-up calls. I highly recommend Dr. Turpel and his team. Thank you from Tyson aka the "Gentle Giant" and his Mom & Dad
We were devastated when Kelsey, our highly active Springer Spaniel, tore the CCLs in both knees at only 5 years of age. Under other circumstances or as a hunting dog, this would be a death sentence for him. In search of a surgeon, our inquiries kept coming up with one name, Dr. Jim Turpel. This brought us to Upper Canada Animal Hospital for a consult with Dr. Turpel that couldn't have been more informative and reassuring. His passion and compassion has rightly earned him his reputation. With Dr. Turpel performing the leading edge TTA surgery, Kelsey has made a remarkable recovery with no complications. We are grateful as we watch Kelsey bound across the field as limber as before. The quality of care our pet received from the Upper Canada Animal Hospital staff was exceptional. I only wish people would get as good post recovery care from their surgeons as Kelsey did. Our thanks to Dr. Jim Turpel and staff from Debbra Beauregard/Clemmensen, Gary and Kelsey.
All the staff at Upper Canada has always given my dog the best care and compassion possible.
Dr. Turpel and his team are the most compassionate, knowledgeable, kind, skilled and thorough animal health care professionals I’ve ever come across and have had the pleasure of visiting for the last 10 years. Having mastiffs comes with joint troubles, and UCAH has given both of mine healthy legs again with updated, less-invasive procedures. It’s like they became brand new pups again! I drive 4 hour round trips for regular visits as well as any and all surgeries, and I wouldn’t have it any other way, because there is no one I trust more than the UCAH team.
We can't say enough great things about Dr Turpel and his amazing team at Upper Canada Animal Hospital. Our 1 1/2 year old chocolate lab, Oakley, had been limping for several months, heavily favoring her rear left leg. Our local vet did x-rays and couldn't find the reason so they sent us to Mississauga Oakville Animal Hospital. I had to wait several weeks to get in but I thought great, I will get a diagnosis that day and we will find out what we need to do to make her better. But I end up leaving that appointment without a diagnosis and a recommendation that I make another appointment at MOVAH to see another specialist, and they told me she seemed to be having issues with her front legs! I was so frustrated! Then a friend recommended we go see Dr Turpel. I called first thing the next day and explained our situation. I got an appointment the next day to see Dr Turpel. He spent 5 minutes assessing her and gave us the diagnosis right away, ligament tears in both back knees, no issues with her front legs. He recommended bilateral TTA surgeries and we were able to get the first surgery done within a couple of weeks. The first surgery was done mid-June on her left leg where he found the meniscus was torn as well. Her second surgery was this past Tuesday, and thankfully her meniscus was fine in that one. Dr. Turpel has spent most of our appointments on the floor with Oakley, making her feel comfortable and gaining her trust. You can see his love and compassion for animals and his understanding of what dog parents are going through. His staff are so kind as well, and the whole team gave us updates and followed up with us throughout this whole process. Dr Turpel himself called us the two evenings we brought her home after each surgery to check on her, and us, and he answered all our questions, and we didn't feel like he was in a rush to get us off the phone. We are ever so grateful to have found Dr Turpel and everyone at Upper Canada Animal Hospital, and for their help to get our little girl on the road to recovery and back to a happy, pain free life. Thank you!!!
As a new client, I was absolutely thrilled with the care and treatment of my old cat. They were extremely patient in allowing her to adjust to the office.
The best experience I could have asked for. My dog went in for CCL surgery. The surgeon, Dr. Jim Turpel was incredibly personable - made sure that our dog was comfortable before doing the examination and provided so much knowledge on the surgery and what to expect. We recieved calls and texts before and after her surgery from the staff and surgeon. Such friendly, kind people! A big thank you to everyone that helped make us feel reassured and confident in our experience.
The care my little Yorkie/poo Ebony received at the hands of the surgeon Dr. Jim Turpel and his staff was excellent. Prior to the surgery the procedure was fully explained and the care, home instructions and overall communication afterwards has been excellent. I will not hesitate to place my second little yorkie/poo under this teams care and will highly recommend Upper Canada's services to any pet owner.
Thanks so much Dr Turpel and staff at Upper Canada Animal Hospital for taking care of my baby Glitzy. He just had his stitches removed today after a front left leg amputation and is recovering very quickly! It's such a caring, friendly, and professional environment. Thanks again for calling to give updates twice a day and recommending a weight loss program for him :)
Dr. Turpil and his staff at the upper canada animal hospital in niagara on the lake were a dream come true. Dr. Turpil repaired my tiny papillon's luxating patella. Her surgery is a success and him and his staff were very understanding. They didn't seem annoyed when I called 15x the day the surgery took place and not once did they rush me off the phone, even with their busy schedules. Kudos to the staff for having to deal with this crazy dog mom. Dr. Turpil even gave me his personal email and cell phone number in case anything were to happen overnight when he wasn't in the office- which made me feel at ease. The staff are professional, helpful and loving. They are expensive- but you get what you pay for, and I wasn't willing to risk anything for my little Betsy. I really enjoyed my experience here and would highly recommend Dr. Turpil again and again.
We were referred to Dr. Turpel for our cat's surgery. She needed a leg amputated due to cancer. I was unsure if I was doing the right thing, right from the very beginning, Dr Turpel put my mind at ease. He came in from his holidays to do the surgery, he was afraid it couldn't wait. He even offered to take her home for the weekend (the hospital was closed) to make sure she was doing ok after the surgery. The staff treated us so well before, during and after the surgery. I'm really grateful to Dr Turpel and the staff at the hospital. They really went above and beyond our expectations. Our cat is now thriving, she was running one week post surgery. I can't say enough good things about the Upper Canada Animal Hospital, and I would recommend it to anyone.
Excellent professional service that takes great care of your animals!
Dr Turpel was very good with both my dogs. The whole experience was made easy by the very professional team led by Dr Turpel
I took my dog Elly in for corrective surgery on her rear leg. Dr Turpel took the time to explain the work that needed to be done in a friendly easy to understand manner. The surgery went well and they did follow up calls to make sure there were no issues. I had sent a photo to them to make sure the swelling was normal, and had a response within a couple of hours. Overall a very satisfactory experience and I would have no problem recommending them.
All of the staff at UCAH are incredible and treat your pet as if it were their own. I trust and have taken both my babies(dogs) there for years. I am happy to recommend them for any pet services.
Dr. Turpel is great. A skilled orthopaedic surgeon and a decent human being. He called to check on my cat's progress a few days, a few weeks and a few months after the surgery just to see how things were going. My only suggestion is to get an early appointment so that he isn't behind. He spends the time to really examine your pet and to explain things.
Great first visit for us and our French Bulldog, Dougie. The entire staff made a fuss over him and he truly was welcomed. Very thorough examination along with professional advice and discussion. Thanks to all!
I don't normally post reviews, but I feel compelled to share just how special Dr. Angela and the wonderful staff at Upper Canada Animal Hospital are. Dr. Angela provided exceptional care and love to first our beloved Scruffy, who has since passed, and now to my beautiful little rescue, Louie. She is one of those rare individuals who combines compassion and empathy with exceptional professional and personal skills. First Scruffy and now Louie have received both love and the best possible care from her, and I can say without hesitation that a beloved pet who finds him/herself under Dr. Angela's care is truly lucky. Thank you so much, Dr. Angela and staff, I am so grateful for all you have done for us and for always being there.
Rusty had the TTA surgery back in January. He is 5 years old and bounced right back. The staff are super friendly! Our surgeon was very knowledgeable able, took the time to answer all our questions! Highly recommend this clinic!
Our experience has been incredible. Our Retriever X Lab Lex required TTA Surgery after a simple game of fetch left her completely lame in her back hind leg. We knew something was wrong, but didn't understand the severity. We took her to our Vet and she referred us to the team at UCAH. From our first meeting we knew that Dr. Turpel and his incredibly dedicated staff were going to love Lex like we do. The outpouring of care, love and support was over the top. We are so thankful to have been referred to such an amazing clinic, and even more grateful to have our dog fully recovered, and back to her playful self.
Right from the very start, Dr. Turpel (call me Jim he insisted from the get go, lol) took great pains to go through the issues plaguing Kingston. It was instantly apparent, how much he loves animals. Sadly, Kingston required a front leg amputation but it was totally apparent how much he cared and took a great deal of time explaining everything to me to put my mind at ease. From then on I've met a number of his staff and they have all shown the same degree of caring and compassion. Their follow up is exceptional and I would not hesitate to recommend them. Kingston is home now and well on his way to recovery
I can't emphasize enough how wonderful this clinic is. My dog Foxy got referred to Dr. Turpel for cruiate surgery. The care and compassion taken by Dr. Turpel and his team has far surpassed my expectations. I wish this was my full-time veterinary care clinic. Their kindness and care is more than I expected.
I can't say enough about how amazing everyone at Upper Canada is! Every single member of the staff here are incredible and truly care about their patients. They always follow up and want to make sure that their patients are getting the best care possible. I had an issue that I forgot to mention in an appointment and they were more than happy to have a follow up appointment free of charge to have another exam done. They are honest and up front and seem to always follow latest evidence to guide their practice. I am very confident that my puppy is in good hands whenever I bring her here.
Wonderful staff, very thorough when explaining everything, made our girl happy to come back. Made us feel we made the right decision in our dog`s health.
Very caring and compassionate staff who explain procedures in detail. Excellent with our timid dog and did not rush examination.
Last Saturday morning our Lab Milly woke up, with all due respect, looking like Don Cherry's dog "Blue!" The left side of Milly's face was swollen underneath her eye which seemed to have transformed her into this one sided facial English Bull Terrier!! I phoned Upper Canada Animal Hospital immediately for Milly, who will be 12 years old in September and has been going there since she was an 8 week old puppy. It is wonderful that UCAH is open on Saturday mornings for, in our minds, this type of emergency. Staff apologetically said that all available appointments were booked but asked if I could take pictures of Milly's face and email them. I sent the photos and waited. It was shortly after noon and I had resigned myself to the fact that this would probably have to wait until Monday. Milly was not in any obvious distress and true to her Lab form was eating without any difficulty!! I received a phone call from Dr. Stephen an hour after UCAH had closed. He asked if I could bring Milly to the office since we lived close by so he could see her. Dr. Stephen who is extremely kind, compassionate and very knowledgeable, believed Milly had an abscess that was draining. He started her on an antibiotic and we made an appointment for first thing Monday morning. Milly did have an abscess! In fact x-rays showed she had two more on the verge of draining and one other potential abscess that we would be back in another few months to have taken care of!!! UCAH Dental Heath Care Treatment Plan to the rescue and Milly is back to looking like our Milly:) An aside to this happy ending... Dr. Jim Turpel has Milly still running like a gazelle at her age after repairing her torn cranial cruciate ligaments, in each knee, at the age of two and the three years old!! Dr. Angela Granacki has been Milly's "mainstay" providing excellent care all these years and keeping her in optimal health! Dr. Erin Kanerva has seen Milly on a few occasions and received wonderful and compassionate care! Dr. Stephen Gajadhar has proven to be an amazing addition to the UCAH Team! Tracey Niven, who always has a warm smile, is kind, caring and has been a great support through UCAH in our community here in Niagara on the Lake! The Staff at UCAH is welcoming, friendly and caring which has been so evident during this pandemic! It is definitely a "Team" effort at Upper Canada Animal Hospital. Everyone at UCAH goes above and beyond in providing the best care for ours and yours "furry" family member... Sincerely, Susan & Allen Snider
Dr.Trupel and all staff are A1. Our Diesel had a torn Cruciate Ligament repair. The care, compassion and professionalism this office gives is outstanding. I highly recommend this office. Great job team, keep up the hard work.
Our dog, Zeus, had TTA surgery at UCAH, my wife and I were more than pleased with the experience we had with the staff and Dr. Turpel. They are very professional but also very compassionate in the care of our pup. The staff called us twice, to see how Zeus was doing and Dr.Turpel called us to check out Zeus' status. The professionalism of Dr.Turpel and his staff is above and beyond anything we have experienced before. I highly recommend this veterinarian and his staff. A++++++
I discovered Upper Canada while working with Golden Rescue in adopting my Golden boy Sully. Upper Canada has been incredible - the front desk staff and vet tech's are amazing, and Dr. Erin has gone above and beyond with Sully and his care. They are more expensive than other vets that I've used, but they also have provided the best care in my experience. Highly recommend!
Our little guy scratched his eye Friday night. We called Saturday morning and they were able to take him for 8:30 am. They were super friendly and followed up on his progress the following week. Dozer is now 100% again. Thanks for the great job!
A CCL diagnosis in your dog is never a good thing. Everything you read on the internet leads you down a rabbit hole of tales of expensive surgery and major rehab. The reality is, surgery is expensive and post-operative care is intense. Fortunately, I found Upper Canada Animal Hospital and despite the long drive from Toronto, I would not hesitate to recommend their services to anyone who is looking for treatment for a CCL injury in their pet. Dr. Turpel is very kind and compassionate and made me feel very comfortable as I left my dog in his very capable care. Thank you also to the staff of Upper Canada. Amazing Care.
We have been with Upper Canada Animal Hospital for many years now and have only positive experiences to share. From regular wellness visits to more complicated procedures the staff treat each visit with the same level of love and care. We highly recommend them, and if our German Shepherd's Tikka and Brix could talk they would too.
Dr. Turpel and his staff are FANTASTIC !! I would highly recommend this clinic. Thank you for taking care of our dog.
Upper Canada Veterinary is an amazing place with phenomenal staff. They are committed to the highest standards of pet care and have always work collaboratively with me when assessing my pups needs. Awesome place!
I have been using Upper Canada for the care of my dogs for some time now. Always compassionate to their needs as well as my family. Great care and handling of my boys(dogs) and they love going there. Always a friendly smile and much love from the staff. Thanks ladies for all of your care and support these past years.
Don’t know where to start with this review. Our Bichon, Willow just had her 2nd knee surgery last week and I cannot begin to tell you how grateful I am for Dr Turpel and the staff at UCAH. His professionalism, expertise and confidence, and his clear love for animals is above anything I’ve ever experienced. His willingness to make time to explain, and follow up is admirable. Last year we had Willows first knee done, and this year we had her other. I have the utmost confidence in the knowledge and confidence in Dr Turpel and his staff. They are true professionals and actually care. They make you feel like family. Thank you Dr Turpel. I really appreciate you. Im grateful that you and your clinic exist. Thanks for caring! UCAH is on top of the game. BAR NONE!
I recently switched my vet to Upper Canada. We have an 11 year old Pom who required dental work. Everyone is super friendly and very informative, from the front desk staff, the vet assistants to the vet themselves. At every step we have received thorough information, detailed reports and all our questions have been fully answered. Their follow up care and professionalism is superior. We are very happy to have dealt with Upper Canada and will continue to bring all of our pets here when needed. Thanks kindly ????
Yesterday our golden retriever Lucy had her last appointment after having ligament surgery in March. She has recovered nicely and is so excited to be able to lounge on the couch again! Thank you to all the staff that helped look after Lucy. And to Dr. Turpel thank you for taking the time to explain everything to me. Lucy is a member of our family and we are looking forward to many more years with her. Again thank you!
Our beloved Rotti Lucy recently had knee surgery at Upper Canada Hospital. We were all very scared, but Dr. Jim Turpel educated and reassured us on the procedure. He was extremely kind and was willing to answer any questions we had. We were kept apprised of Lucy's condition by email and photos through out the day of surgery. When we brought her home with a detailed recovery plan, Dr. Turpel called to see how everything was going. Dr. Angela was wonderful during Lucy's progress examinations and as always, Crystal was a welcoming face at the front desk. Lucy is now officially discharged (with still some way to go), but Dr. Turpel still calls to monitor her status. I would most highly recommend this veterinary service if your pet has any surgical needs. The professionalism and kindness is off the scales.
We were directed to Upper Canada Animal Hospital to have TTA surgery done on our golden retriever named Mollie. The knowledge, compassion and caring was above and beyond anything we expected. Dr. Turpel was exceptional with Mollie. Just knowing that after surgery we were able to contact him with any concerns was a great comfort to us. We would highly recommend Dr. Turpel and the hospital for any of your pets needs.
in November 2020 we found out that our young dog had an ACL injury and required orthopedic surgery. Before committing to a orthopedic vet I did my research, called approximately 5 vet hospitals. When I called Upper Canada Animal Hospital, they were very friendly and took time to explain and answer any questions that I had. We decided that based on our first impression and reviews we would take a drive up from Toronto to Niagara- on -the -Lake to have the surgery. Dr. Jim Turpel, Dr Erin Kanerva and vet tech staff took the greatest care of our dog Franek (Frankie). We received a call right after surgery to let us know that everything went well. We were sent home with a daily detailed schedule of what needs to be done during recovery. During the 8 week recovery time we would receive regular phone calls from the Upper Canada Animal Hospital to see the progress of recovery and to address any concerns that we may have. Dr. Jim has provided us with his personal e mail address and advised to e mail him at any time with concerns. We are very happy with our choice and would definitely recommend Upper Canada Animal Hospital.
As long time "patients" of Upper Canada (for multiple pets) we have full confidence in the abilities of all the Docs and Tech's working there. When we have had emergencies, they were quick to respond and react, while being caring and sensitive to our immediate needs. They have also been candid in advising us when further treatments are not the best route for our feline or K-9 family members. Doctor Erin was so kind to us re the final days of our Tonkinese, Echo, including looking for ways to mitigate expenses without compromising treatment. Dedicated, professional, empathetic and thorough, to us, the Upper Canada team is well qualified to deal with all aspects of any of our pet's treatment. It was also so kind of them to also make a donation in Echo's name to research. As for their facilities, they are so clean and welcoming, I'd personally be happy to be a patient there. Thanks everyone - Sandi Johnston & J. Richard Wright
Unfortunately I did not share the good experience with this hospit alot of people are talking about. Last week my German shepherd was given an appointment for a surgery consultation. They pushed heavily for us to put a 2000 deposit and do a same day surgery before we recieved the appointment. We explained multiple times our dogs situation and that we really want to know exactly what's wrong before we send him for any kind of surgery. we are not even sure if it is his hips or his knee. We would just like the consulation for now please. They agreed. 18 hours before the appointment they called back to say they would not be seeing him as he didnt fall under the category of an emergency unless he is recieving same day surgery. I explained that we had this conversation last week and everything was fine. They said the goverment has changed the rules around what they can and can not do and they cant see him for a consulation only. I agreed but was greatly disappointed to find out from my normal vet and other vets just hours later that this is not true and they are more then able to do a consultation for a surgery legally. Just disappointing. I understand but wanted to share this experience as I told my wife I have a feeling they will call the day before and refuse to take him unless he gets surgery$$. Which happened. Every other vet I spoke with today said this sounds like somebody trying to take advantage of this covid 19 situation and gauge money.. Which on an animals behalf, I sincerely hope is not true.
Thank you so much for the friendly, fear-free environment. We really appreciated Dr. Angela's knowledge and advice and willingness to spend so much time with us in answering our questions. The staff were so friendly and welcoming to us and our puppy. We highly recommend Upper Canada Animal Hospital.
This clinic is amazing, my dog had to acl surgeries. All the doctors are fantastic, helpfull and patient every step of the way. The surgeon is unbelievably incredible!!!! He is the nicest and most kind veterinarian I have ever met. ❤
The Upper Canada team is very good ,we've been with them since they opened , they were there through the good times and sad times. Samantha, Sophie both spaniels, Bailey cat and the last of the pack Rusty the little dude is a Russian Bolonka. We'd like to say thank you for the great service and caring ❤ ????
I can not say enough about the care my kitty received at this hospital, Dr. Turple is amazing! I was calling to leave a non urgent message at the hospital when Dr. Turple called me personally to ask about my cat, at 8pm after having dinner with his wife. Right from the beginning Dr. Turple offered me several other options and places to get second opionions. The staff truly understands that they are more than just our pets, they are our fur babies. From the reception, to the vet techs to the Drs, amazing!!! Steeler and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
Many thanks to Dr. Turpel and the wonderful staff at UCAH for the love and care given to our Bella Daisy. Bella had surgery for a torn lt CCL. Her surgery went very well and her post op recovery was smooth and uneventful. It was such a pleasure to work with this wonderful animal hospital. We were given explanations and instructions at every step along Bella's road to recovery. The post op instruction package that is sent home with you is very detailed and precise and covers every aspect of care and time frame expectation. In addition, Dr. Turpel called us to check in and make sure Bella was doing well when she came home and left his personal contact info with us in case of any concerns. He was amazing! We would highly recommend Dr. Jim Turpel and all of the dedicated, professional staff at UCAH. With our heartfelt thanks..and Bella's too!!!
After three different opinions I found dr turpel and felt extremely comfortably and confident right from the start ! He goes above and beyond for your pet ,. He doesn’t just do it for the money he does it because he loves his job ! I’d recommend him to others , already have !! He not only does a wonderful job , he has a wonderful team , and your pet will be on the best hands with the best treatment !
Our little man Chihuahua had to have knee surgery Dr Turpel and his staff were highly recommended for the operation by our regular vet. Yoda has done very well and the regular calls and support for his physio at home has been outstanding.
Dr Jim and his staff were all outstanding and so caring from the first phone call I had made to inquire about Tahoes acl surgery and throughout his recovery...The way we were treated was like we were family so caring, compassionate and understanding....as upset as i was after talking to Dr Jim he made me feel at ease....I cannot thank everyone enough At Upper Canada for the care and time they have taken throughout Tahoes surgery and recovery....I was recommended by a friend to take Tahoe to Upper Canada for his surgery and I definitely will recommend Upper Canada to anyone I know that has pets in need of the best care that can possibly be given...Thank You so much.........Mike and Tahoe
This is our second experience with Upper Canada Animal Hospital & Dr. " Jim " Turpel. Both hind legs had ruptured cruciate ligament repairs, known as a TTA. 1st surgery a year & 1/2 ago on R then L this year . Her recovery after 1st was remarkable . Dr. Jim's expertise in this type of surgery is renowned and his reputation stellar. The guidance provided for recovery exceeded our expectations with a very detailed booklet outlining everything . Thank you to the staff who go above and beyond.
I must thank Dr. Turpel and his amazing, caring and compassionate staff. Zoe has had 3 surgeries done by Dr. Turpel now. Dr. Turpel is an excellent vet and cares so much about the people and thier babies. The entire staff makes you feel comfortable leaving your pet there, knowing they will be taken care of. How many doctors phone on their own time to check on their patients. He explains everything to you so you are aware of what is happening. Zoe is almost 13 years old and just had her 2nd TTA done. She is doing great! Thank you Upper Canada Animal Hospital!!
Appreciate the balance of professionalism and compassion of the entire team here. They educate without expectation, celebrate and empathize, and deeply care for our wonderful family additions. Dr Angela has always been fantastic, knowledgeable and understanding. 5 stars
Our 14 year old Shih Tzu has been having a lot of problems and we took him to see Dr. Angela Granacki whose been treating him since we move to Virgil 8 years ago. She spent an inordinate amount of time with us giving us a few options including the one we were dreading. However, after much discussion on all sides we went with a drug therapy which we'll try for a month to see how Freeway does. We still may have to choose for his sake to let him go but we know if that is the final outcome Dr. Angela will be there with us to help us all thru. This is a very caring facility from the girls at the front desk to the doctors and behind the scenes staff. We highly recommend Upper Canada Animal Hospital.
Blaze was so lucky to have you all! Thank you so much for taking such good care of my baby.
Our Portuguese Water Dog, Colbie just had a TTA repair of her CCL, 2 days ago by Dr. Turpel. This hospital was highly recommended by our local veterinarian. Trust me...its worth the drive to Niagara On The Lake (which for us was an hour away) no matter where you may be driving from. Having a background in healthcare (on humans) and dealing with specialists, Dr Turpel and team go above and beyond in extra TLC. While we have an interesting 8 week recovery "to do list" we know they are a phone call or email away with answers to our questions. Roxanne & Dave
Not usually one to write reviews, however I am simply amazed by this vet. My dog was hit by a car and fractured his hip bone. My regular vet referred us to this clinic and I couldn’t be happier. My dog ended up having a femoral head excision (FHO) by Dr.turpel. The surgery went well and they made him very comfortable. Having your dog undergo surgery can be very nerve wreaking, however the vet himself called me post operatively and the night we brought him home as follow up. The cost of the procedure in my opinion was reasonable as well, my vet estimated 5-7k and told me I may have to go to Toronto or Mississauga, because it was an orthopaedic surgery. Upper Canada however charged around 3k which included pre-op bloodwork, anaesthetic, pain meds and fluids, the overnight board and postoperative medications. They also took 100$ off because I was referred by my vet. The vet seemed honest and compassionate, and the team was friendly and translucent with care and cost. Would highly recommend you go here, especially if you think your pet may need surgery. They are simply the best ! Thank you for fixing our dog, so happy to have him home and healing !
If only Bonesy could talk!! I don't want to bore you with yet another 5 star review but you can't go any higher. What an incredible Vet Hospital filled with the most caring people on the planet. A staff that harass you with kindness. When have you ever been able to say that. I know where I'm when my knees go out!!!! bark, bark.
I do not normally post reviews but have to say the amount of time/care and follow up care we received from Upper Canada Animal Hospital has been amazing! Dr Turpel and his team have been above and beyond our expectations - making us feel comfortable every step of the way. We are in the initial stages of our healing journey but with their reassurance we are confident in our pups recovery. Would definitely recommend this clinic!
Of all my years owning/caring for pets this place has by far exceeded my expectations in professionalism, teaching/educating, caring with up to date practices & amazing staff. I truly wish I had them as our Vet service years ago.
Upper Canada ranks 10/10 in their care of our beloved Havanese dog, where he is treated like each staff person’s own pet. Everyone there is so caring and dedicated, and their services are at the highest professional level. His veterinarian is Dr. Erin Kanerva, and she is wonderful in every way. Not only is she focused on his health, but she ensures that every clinic visit is a happy experience for him. If he has had a health problem, she explores all treatment options, and we ask her what she would do if he were her own dog. We always get a follow up phone call from Dr. Erin the day after any procedure, or if he has been unwell, to check up on him. Our family is encouraged to phone with questions or seek advice at any time. We feel that Upper Canada's, and Dr. Erin’s, team approach ensures the best veterinary care for our dog, and this gives us total peace of mind in terms of his health.
This is Frankie my seven year old cocker spaniel. Dr. Turpel did a TTA on Frankie's second leg two months ago. The first leg was done three years ago, it was a TPLO. I was referred to Dr. Turpel by Frankie's amazing doctor two months ago. Dr. Turpel and all the staff at Upper Canada Animal Hospital were fantastic. The TTA that was just done was amazing. Frankie was using his leg the second day and was doing so much better and the recovery time just amazed us. Two months later Frankie has full use of his leg and just wants to go. Thank you so much for taking such good care of Frankie.
We read about Upper Canada on line and are so happy that we chose them to look after our dog. Rolly has had two knees done now and the support just never stops from this Team. We drive 3 hours one way to get to them but just marvel at their work and their love and care for animals. Could not have dreamed of anything better.
Excellent staff, and very attentive to both the hounds and us.
I have a 3 yr old black German Shepard named Mickey He was vomiting, losing weight and not active. Wanted a second opinion and was told about Upper Canada. Dr Stephan looked after Mickey and giving him the medicine he required. Now Mickey has gained weight, not vomiting and playful. He may have flare ups now and then but he is so much better. Can not say enough good things about Dr Stephan and the staff at Upper Canada. I have my Mickey back
With Covid I finally got in to meet with Dr. Jackie Gallienne, Callie’s Vet. She is very nice, didn’t feel rushed, and informative. First time seeing the office area due to changing vet. Lost Dr. Sam at Lock 1 due to health issues. Miss her very much, but after checking around I went to Upper Canada and I am very very pleased. All the staff that I have met are great. Would recommend them to anyone.????
What a great service!❤️???????? My dog has been limping for over 3 months, took him to regular vet, took X-rays, tried some Metacam and a lot of rest , still limping. Was told that soft tissue injury take a long time to heal. But he reinsured his shoulder again. Did my Google search about orthopedic specialists and came across UCAH and dr. JIM. I should have went there sooner and save tons of money$$$. Very good service and knowledgeable advice. Oli doesn't limp anymore and was diagnosed with biceps tendonatis. Dr. JIM and his all team is the best. Money well spent.
We moved to NOTL a few months ago. Recently, our dog, Morgan, has had some health related issues. Thanks to Dr. Lauren Collins and the staff at UCAH, she has received excellent care. The facilities are clean and well maintained and everyone is interested in her well being. We are very happy with their service.
Dr. Turpel is amazing. Dr. Kanerva and Dr. Granacki are awesome. The staff is amazing. So friendly, knowledgeable and they sincerely care not only about your pets but the pet parents as well. My 22 month old German shepherd Jaxson tore his ACL and had surgery. Dr. Turpel himself called me later that night when we brought him home to see how he was and me as well! The staff continued to follow up in the days to follow and encouraged us to call for any concerns we had. Again, absolutely amazing. Thank you so much. I would recommend Upper Canada Animal Hospital to everyone!
I can't say enough good things about Upper Canada Animal Hospital with whom we've been dealing for the past 5 years. Their staff is absolutely amazing! Recently, our little poodle Liberty was showing obvious signs that she was really sick. I contacted Upper Canada, and Dr Erin, whom Liberty loves, called me right back to inquire about the symptoms and informed me I should bring her in asap. Once I got there, Dr Erin diagnosed her and explained what needed to be done. 24 hours later, our little pooch was back in tip-top form and as happy as can be. In the meantime, Dr Erin had even called me for a follow-up. That's awesome! Thank you all at Upper Canada Animal Hospital. You guys really do care.
I am new to the area and was looking for a good vet. Numerous people I talked to recommended Upper Canada Animal Hospital and I see why. Their website was impressive, but as soon as I met the vets and staff, I knew I had found the right place for my dog Beau. He has allergies which are under control now and they were extremely knowledgeable and lovable to my little buddy. I DEFINTELY would recommend them!!!
It is my pleasure to recommend Upper Canada Animal Hospital to you. Our three cats are cared for by the veterinary doctors and staff at Upper Canada Animal Hospital. Our pets are treated with appropriate concern and receive the most knowlegable and professional care. The doctors are thorough with their examinations, explaining their diagnosis and recommendation clearly. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the doctors place 'follow up' phone calls, to check on their patients the next day. Everyone at the clinic is obviously an animal lover! One of our cats is 'feral' and has difficulty dealing with strange environments and new people. The doctors have been so gentle and considerate, respecting his needs, that the appointment was much less stressful for him. We are always seen for our appointments in a timely manner and the clinic/exam rooms are very clean and well appointed. I feel our pets receive the very best care from Upper Canada Animal Hospital.
An experience every dog owner...owes its dog Staff is great group of people while our experience with Dr. Turple was as good as we've ever had. Our dog is close too back to normal thanks to he and his staff. If he is not treating your wonderful family member then you aren't giving your dog the best! And he us ...THE BEST!!????????????
I can't say enough good about my experience with the Upper Canada Animal Hospital. On November 19, my malti-poo fell while running down our steps and broke his leg. As it turned out to be a very complicated break ie a comminuted fracture our regular vet was unable to set it. He said that Dr. Jim at UCAH was the only vet locally who would be able to do this repair. Dr. Jim took us the next morning and worked his magic on Finnegan. I couldn't hardly believe how he was able to put that leg back together again when it had been in so many pieces - what an amazing feat!!!! I was really quite surprised when Dr. Jim, himself phoned the next evening to see how Finnegan was coming along. Someone always did a follow up too when there was any change in Finn's meds. There was never a problem getting in touch with someone when I had any concern and they were very patient with me too:). Finnegan has been in a play pen since his surgery and tomorrow we go for what could be our final check up on his leg with Dr. Angela and all going well, he will regain his freedom. Needless to say, we have a gate at the top of our stairs now. I would like to say a special thanks to Dr Jim., Dr. Angela and all the staff at UCAH for the great job they did with Finnegan as well as their compassion, understanding , time spent explaining and just for being the way they are.
I decided to bring my yorkipoo to Upper Canada Animal because our vet in Toronto had diagnosed her with Legg Calve Perthes Disease upon doing some xrays and recommended FHO (Femoral Head Ostectomy) procedure. Dr. Jim Turpel (He introduced himself as Jim but I have so much respect for him haha ) and his team are absolutely amazing. From the responsive & attentive administrative staff (Hailey & Crystal were both super informative & responsive) to Dr. Jim Turpel himself, I could not believe how professional & organized this Animal Hospital is! The minute that I pulled into the parking lot, parking spots were well designated with signs and a number to call. I drove 1.5 hours to bring Mia out to see Dr. Turpel for a surgical consult, so I decided while we waited, we would just walk outside to give Mia a bathroom break. Dr. Turpel was still with another client and he already knew it was little Mia that was waiting & next! I am thoroughly happy that I decided to bring Mia to Upper Canada Animal Hospital as Dr. Turpel's assessment & recommendation were honest and with Mia's health & wellness as the top priority. After spending some time with us in the parking lot for the assessment, Dr. Turpel didn't even feel that it was worthy of a consult fee. Vet bills have been expensive for us on this journey and I really appreciated that Dr. Turpel was only looking out for Mia's best interest and did not put anything before that. Thank you Upper Canada Animal Hospital, I will be keeping you in mind for any future assessments that Mia may require (hopefully not!)
Today my Stanley went in for surgery for a Femoral Head Osteotomy. Dr Jim Turpel is a godsend (and his staff). When these professionals were created by the big guy in the sky he created perfection. I was a hysterical mess and these people helped me through one of the worst days of my life. To anyone reading this I just want you to know your babies are in the best hands. You never have to worry. Thank you again for everything!!!!
SAVED MY CATS LIFE Dr. Jim Turpel and Dr. Erin Kanerva are amazing veterinarians. After a previous clinic had been unable to diagnose our cat (Cookie) for multiple days, we decided to obtain a second opinion from Upper Canada Animal Hospital. Dr. Erin Kanerva carefully listened to all the symptoms Cookie had been experiencing, and after a throughout examination (physical, blood draw, xray) it was determined that our cat needed surgery as he was critically ill (based on xray views of his abdomen). Dr. Jim Turpel and Dr. Erin Kanerva performed an exploratory laparotomy where a gastrointestinal perforation was discovered. Based on the damage they discovered during surgery Cookie was given a less than 50% chance of survival. Our Cookie is alive and well today because of the skill, care, and compassion provided by Upper Canada Animal Hospital.
It was my cat's first visit to Upper Canada Animal Hospital and this was the best vet experience I've ever had! Dr. Erin and Teagan were absolutely wonderful.
Dr. Turpel (Jim) and the rest of the amazing staff took very good care of my little Peanut twice now. She went in for her first surgery in October on her left hind leg, and then back in December 22 for the right leg. I was extremely nervous and anxious for both surgeries and had a hard time keeping the tears in, but they understand your feelings and do what they can to comfort you and your pet. Jim said due to her size (5 lbs) these surgeries are very difficult, and that I have no doubt. She is taking a little longer to recover after the second surgery but I am hopeful with a little more time she will be 100%. The care and concern from Jim and the rest of the staff is second to none. I had e-mailed my concerns to Jim a few times and he always replied quickly. The staff also calls and does their check up to see how things are progressing as well. As much as I recommend UCAH, I hope after our 8 week check up we don't have to visit anymore! ;-). Thanks for taking such good care of my baby!
If you are looking for an honest vet who is professional and down to earth... look no further! Dr. Turpel could of made a lot of money off of us, but instead put our malinois's best interests over profits! Thank you for your honesty!! You can tell he treats his staff great too because everyone i talked to on the phone was always so friendly! Thanks again and we will be recommending you to anyone and everyone who needs special care!!
Our Lab had tta surgery on Monday and is recovering very well. The staff at upper canada animal hospital went above and beyond our expectations. The care they all showed to our girl was heart warming. They all truly care about the patient. The communication has been over the top. Thank you from Layla.
love this place, Dr. Collins is the best! so good with my Luke and Leia. all the staff is super great too. you can tell everyone honestly cares as soon as you walk through the door. i highly recommend
We were incredibly lucky to have this wonderful team be in charge of our dog Sunny's care for his torn cruciate ligament. We drove all the way from Toronto for Sunny's surgery and two follow-up visits. Every time, we were greeted by one of the friendliest, most knowledgable, supportive and comprehensive teams all the way from reception to the vets. We were given an incredibly detailed post-op instructions booklet (so helpful!). We were provided with Dr. Turpel's personal email and encouraged to contact him at any time with any questions. We received multiple follow-up calls during Sunny's surgery and after every visit to check in on Sunny's progress or in case we had any questions. Both Drs. Turpel and Kanerva always answered our questions with evidence-based research and were extremely validating, patient and personable. My partner and I walked away with so much knowledge and have been consistently impressed by how much thought and care the whole team puts into your clinic. To the UCAH staff --thank you so much for all the hard work you do. All of you made a stressful experience a positive one.
I absolutely love all the staff at Upper Canada Animal Hospital. Dr. Turpel did a fantastic job on my 7 year old dog's knee. It's been almost 5 months since Roxie had the TTA surgery and she is bouncing around as good as new, absolutely pain free. If your pet is in pain, I would highly recommend this hospital and this surgery, if it's needed.
My big boy Cooper was seen for an assessment and then underwent a surgical procedure. The care that this clinic gives to your pet is Absolutely incredible. Not only did I feel well looked after as the owner, I felt safe leaving my dog with them without hesitation. They sent me a message post op with Cooper to decrease my own stressors and provided multiple phone call updates on how he was doing; and, even allowed for extra calls and check ins if needed by myself to see how Cooper was doing without question. This clinic is outstanding with their care towards animals and help you understand what is going on at a level that, as an owner, you can comprehend. They give a very detailed discharge with instructions on how to care for your animal and allow for you to ask questions at anytime with a phone call to the clinic. I would highly recommend this clinic to all pet owners as the professionalism is beyond belief. Each and every staff member within the clinic is very positive, happy, and makes for a great overall feeling once you walk through their front door. This is one of the most amazing vet's I have been to throughout my life as a dog/animal owner. I greatly appreciate the care we received and continue to receive from Dr. Turpel himself and his team. Thank you for all that you have done this far. You are all incredible. Thank you.
