I have 2 sick dogs that have been being helped by Dr. Amy. She left the clinic I was at in Hamilton, I heard she came to this clinic, but when I call noone seems to know wether she works there, wether I can book an appointment, or anything about her... I just keep being told to call back. Well I got told to call back again, by a lady who called and left a messafe AS she was leaving the office, and it's the long weekend. I called back and, again, noone can answer any questions. "Call back tuesday." Well if you haven't been able to even answer if she works there, and can take my dogs as clients for the last 2 days, what will be the difference Tuesday? I think Dr. Amy is the best vet I have been to, I just really have questions that need to be answered and I need to see a vet, I was hoping for some answers but the front desk staff here has forced me to go see another vet, probably one of the many that couldn't help my pets before I met Dr. Amy.

My dog had double ACL surgery and Dr.Chris made sure to inform us as much as possible and get our girl into see Dr.Burgess as soon as possible. Dr.Burgess saved our girl alot of pain and suffering by performing the surgery and doing it at alot lower price then elsewhere. They are both so amazing. The assistants are also very kind and helpful,we are always greeted with smiles when we arrive and our girl gets lots of attention. I highly recommend going here to see Dr.Burgess or Dr.Chris

I've been bringing my animals here for about 15 years. Ken Burgess was wonderful and always very caring and helpful. Since his retirement it has been harder to get in to see one of the other doctors. We've had to take our girl to the emergency vet instead. Today we tried to make an appointment again because our dog seems to have a bad ear infection and we were told they didnt have any appointments available for the next 2 weeks. I will always appreciate the prompt, caring, service and value Dr. Burgess provided our family over the years, but now I am looking for a new clinic that can provide similar quality service as he did.

As you can see many recent reviews are bad since the new takeover. I loved this place and referred many people there but not now, it's completely different, staff not caring, prices increased like crazy. I have a large dog with diabetes and requires insulin, he goes through a bottle every two weeks, they increased the pricing by 40% without warning has basically made it so difficult to care for our dog, a 40% increase is crazy and no warning. Not happy with them and absolutely never refer anyone any longer.

Burgess was fantastic with my girl almost 17 year old cat Missy. My girl had a seizure late at night one night so she was rushed off to an after hour vet. A week later I found her in her litter box having another one during the day so rushed her to her vet clinic witch is Burgess and they took her right in when I got there. We decided to do full blood work and within 20 30 min we had the results that her kidneys were not in good shape. We decided to keep her there for the day for observations, also to do x-rays and a urine sample. At the end of the day while waiting for her to be ready, the doctor called me and asked if I would come in once everyone leaves so we could go over her results in person. After getting in and looking at her results I learned that her heart was very enlarged, fluid around her lungs and kidneys not good. The doctor was amazing while going over the results, and I so appreciated being able to go over results like that in person and not on the phone. We decided she would come home and I would try and get a urine sample to look further into her kidneys. Unfortunately after bringing her home I knew she wasn't her self, I knew she wasn't feeling good ????. The next day I called and set an appointment to say our goodbyes in 3 days ( Monday). Monday morning I woke up at 4am and she was having another episode. I rushed her to the emergency vet and at 5am she was gone. They contacted Burgess to let them know so I didn't have to. A week later I received a card in the mail from Burgess with the most kindest message, as well as a seed paper to plant and grow flowers for our girl. It was so thoughtful of them to go that extra step, and appreciated more then they will ever know ❤

After looking for a vet that was comfortable with my adopted very large 160 lbs Rottweiler we found Dr. Burgess by a referral. ( a man who owns 3 rotti ) Apollo still doesn’t love Dr. Burgess when it comes to needles and getting his nails cut but I would not bring him anywhere else. Unless Dr. Burgess recommended it. He did have surgery at the Guelph University that went very well. I now travel from out of town just to see Dr. Burgess. We are so thankful for his care and the care we receive from his staff. Apollo is family to me, it means a lot to me to have such a great place to bring him when needed.

Dr.Burgess is the best veternarian ive ever personally met, and this is alot to say seeing my best friend of over 27 years is also a vet with their own practice! Hes always gone the extra distance for us and our pets, hes even come in on a Saturday evening on his day off too top it off in an emergency situation for one of our dogs. Hes the living example of what all vets should strive to be.... We consider Dr. Burgess as a part of our family, his word is final wjen it comes to the well being of our pets! Hes had a few "not so great" receptionists over the years that have dragged his flawless reputation down but i assure you that their not speaking his views all the time a.d recommend requesting to speak to Dr. Burgess personally when you find their not working with you when you call.

If I could give 0 stars I would. My family has been bringing our pets here for years however my mother brought my dog in today for a yearly check up and was constantly belittled and mistreated by the receptionist and the new vet. The vet said she was going to give my dog a treat and then took blood and did tests on him without my mothers permission. Then proceeded to hand her a bill with a huge price increase without letting her know prior. IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR PETS DO NOT BRING THEM HERE!!

Used for various pets in past, when Burgess owned, Chris was an excellent and compassionate doctor, always. Since the change of ownership, not too impressed. Called for emergency with my cat, waited on phone, staff checked info... said "hmm.. Joule has not been here a while".... and then stated there were no openings. Perhaps Joule has not generated enough revenue the past few years for them to bother with? well that was the feeling. Obviously will be looking elsewhere in future. A shame. I was business for them in the past, and brought them various referrals, some with special feed needs.... so expected a bit better welcome this time. cheers, i'm off the see the vet that's a bit more caring.

Had to have my 16 year old male cat put down today and we chose burgess animal hospital to take him to as they euthanized his brother in 2014 when he was sick and they were great then and they were amazing this time too. They made the whole experience very comfortable and the staff were very empathetic and compassionate. Im going to miss my boy so much....he was my best friend. R.I.P. Magus my love. And thank you burgess animal hospital for showing so much kindness during one of the hardest days of my life.

Terrible vet would give - stars if I could. Wouldn't take my dog in for an emergency and said to find another vet. He had a hole in his mouth blood every where . Terrible. I do not recommend.

Horrible service ..rude on the phone in compassionate situations..comments such as lessons learned (my car broke down and need insulin for my Doby) ..by far the rudest front desk lady I have had to deal with. The first vet we saw sent us home advising our pup would be better in a few days after a serious attack by a bigger dog... Thankfully Dr. Burgess was still there and followed up and had us come back the next day. Wounds were treated and surgery done to make sure our pup will actually be ok.

Today they lost our business. I recieved a reminder call on my cell phone at work. When I tried to speak the CSR rudely interrupted and left me on hold a second person came on the line did the same and when I finally spoke with the manager she only made excuses for there poor customers service. Doctor Burgess was great the one time we saw him. After our pup was fixed it was a new vet everytime. They gave out conflicting information on our last 2 visits. they didn't even know how old our dog was and even after the one vet said no concerns 2months later the next vet wanted to book surgery to remove a baby tooth (pup was 14 months old) If you want to feel like you are in a fast food vet for cheap, poor quality vet service then sure this is the place but if you would like your vet to maybe know your pet then try else where.

Use to amazing but since Dr burgess retired it’s gone down hill. The prices increased, and they started pushing other vaccines and medicine my dogs didn’t need (I took them to another vet to varify) last time my dogs where there they were very condescending. My dog today needed an emergency appointment, and they told me that the wait was 2 weeks out and to call another vet.

Hello everyone! I’ll share my time and experience with this vet. I have 2 pure bread German shepherds and I’ve been coming here for 5 years. I’d had 2 litters and gave them all my business with no regrets. We had bought a new house 30 mins away, stuck on the terrible 401 hw 6, from there I called and told them I’d be a few minutes late. We get there for a full 2 dog examination and we get told by a new receptionist that because were 10 mins late the vet will not see us...after 5+ years of loyal service... lol alright I say. “You tell the father and son, to tell me them selfs to re schedule and I will.” This girl goes around the corner, obv doesn’t ask the gentlemen I’ve been doing business with for years. Comes back and says no he doesn’t want to see you. After a 30 min drive, 5 years of service for 2 German shepherds lol, unreal. Even after I called and told them I’d be a few mins late this is what I get and how I’m treated. Sad. This was my exact experience. I ended up leaving and going elsewhere. Unfortunate they lost my business over a smart ass girl but, it will get you nowhere hiring that type of person. The end of the day my dogs are my family. Hopefully this doesn’t happen to anyone else!

Nice to know that when you decide to switch vets for various reasons , all records for your dog are lost. My new vet clinic called your office to get all my records for my dog, he was apparently never seen at your clinic. Luckily i have some receipts and vaccination proof to give to my current vet from your office. Now i have to worry if my dog is getting a double vaccination or booster that is not needed. Way to go Burgess's, nice to know you put animals first.

I was just at Burgess Animal Hospital for the first time and they are wonderful. The front staff have a great sense of humour and are very friendly. The vet we saw was very knowledgeable and did not push any products, foods or medications on us. They made our experience very comfortable with no pressure for anything. They were fast and efficient with procedure and payment processing...no waiting! I showed up a few minutes prior to my appointment and within 5 minutes we were in with the Vet. She was gentle and kind to my dog (he was there for his annual check up/boosters). If you're looking for a friendly, knowledgeable vet clinic, look no further!

DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE!!!!!!! They do not care about your sick pet. It’s just a money grab for them. My dog has been very sick for the past year. Burgess kept doing test saying there was nothing wrong or saying she has a UTI. They kept putting her on antibiotics without actually knowing what was going on. We got tired of not getting answers of what was actually going on with our dog. Took our dog to a different vet to get a second opinion. They found she has cancer in the first rounds of testing.

Burgess Animal Hospital has really gone down hill. The staff really don't care about the animals and are not professional or friendly. There has been no upkeep over the years and the clinic looks very outdated and run down. It is never cleaned and looks unsanitary at times. They make you feel like you are bothering them when you arrive and seem annoyed to have to speak. We have never felt welcome or have been greeted as you would expect at a professional establishment. They refused to see our dog when she was very sick and vomiting, having us drive around in the heat trying to find somewhere that would see her. They have no compassion or understanding and made no effort to fit her in. We will not be returning and want to let others know our bad experiences. I highly recommend bringing your animals somewhere else.

I have been a long time customer at Burgess/VCA Animal Hospital and have had many visits there in search of their expertise on my animals health. When I came on to write a review I was shocked at the amount of negativity from people. My pets and I have always been treated with the utmost respect by every staff member there and the mention of prices soaring can only tell you how good we’ve all had it for many years. The only down side to the clinic is that I can’t always get my pet in when needed but then that also speaks volumes on the clinic’s popularity...and I really can’t blame anyone for that except you other customers for beating me to it. Just remember we all have jobs to do and I think those guys are doing a Phenomenal one under the circumstances so show some humanity folks and “Back Off”....

I don't drive and had to wait in the cold out front with my dog. They could have brought her in but left me out for 15 minutes past my appointment. I told them I didn't drive. I had a friend drive me and didn't want to get her car full of dog hair so left the car as soon as we arrived. I realize covid makes things difficult but watching them walk past me to get other dogs I found just rude. They do take great care once they have you dog in the office.

CAT OWNERS BEWARE!!!!!! THE FEMALE VET IS AFRAID OF CATS!!!! Here’s how my visit went. Vet was not friendly. Very condescending to me. I explained the symptoms he was having. Time to bring him out of the crate. Oh he’s a cat he just hissed at her. So the Vet says “That’s enough of that. We are done. Put him back in the crate”. So naturally I am thinking we are giving him a quick rest. Then to my absolute shock she said “I won’t look at him UNLESS WE GAS HIM IN THE CRATE FIRST!!” I am very upset at this point I need my cat to have some care. So the vet then proceeds to prescribe medication based on our quick conversation. Awesome so this vet will prescribe meds without a proper exam???Interesting. So time to settle the bill. I spent 2 minutes in a room with a vet that told me to gas my cat not even sedate but GAS my cat. I do believe the bill was close $250. I asked why I was getting charged an exam fee when there was none. “We have to pay the vet for her time.” Hmmmmm NO I am paying for a service and since she’s afraid of the cat she stopped that service. Asked to speak with the Office Manager but they were too busy to deal with the very upset first time to their clinic customer. You refuse to look at my cat. I REFUSE TO PAY YOU. Burgess animal hospital has been our vet for the last 8 years, we have had nothing but amazing care from all the staff. My big guy K-OS had 2 knee surgeries 5.5 years ago. He wouldn't eat for them during his stay, so they went out and got him some shaved roast beef and hand fed him. Recently my big guy fell and hurt his leg which wasn't uncommon with him since he hates floors. It wasn't getting any better so I called to get him in and we decided to get x-rays done. He was pretty painful so they kept him all day and made him feel like a prince. After going over his x-rays there was no evidence of anything serious but a little arthritis and swelling. I was warned that it could possibly turn into something else and he was at risk with his breed and age and having a previous surgery that he could develop bone cancer. With this we set up rehabilitation therapy for him and they got him set up with a harness. Over the next few days I got many phone calls from them checking in to see how he was doing. Therapy was also in contact with them and the communication was amazing. I then noticed K-os was not improving and started to get worse so I mentioned it to his rehabilitation team and they quickly got ahold of his vet. In which as I got home I got a call and wanted K-os to come back in the next day. Sadly this time the x-rays showed he had a very aggressive form of bone cancer. They allowed me to go in and we talked about all options available and allowed me to ask any questions and stay and cry and let it all out. We went home and that night he started a quick downhill climb. He was very painful I called the next day and they helped me in how to up his meds and make him comfortable enough. From there I knew he was getting too bad to quickly and decided we needed to let him be pain-free. We made the appointment for Saturday and his vet came in just to free k-os of his pain. It was a very emotional day and they all made it feel so comforting and you can tell how much they care. I can't thank his vet enough for all the amazing care. She was absolutely amazing and did everything she could to him my big guy. So thank you to everyone there. I will always be a greatful

Dr. Burgess and his staff have been looking after our many pets (dogs, cats and rats) for 25 years and we have nothing but the highest regard for his skill, knowledge, skill and empathy. My whole extended family also take their pets to him, one of which was a very difficult and aggressive rescue dog. I have been taking my dogs to burgess for 9 yrs. My one dog has been plagued with yeast infections in her ears and i asked the burgess to refill her prescription. I was told that the last prescription was from 2 years ago and that the doctor would need to see her again. I said that I don't have the money to pay for a full visit could i just have the medicine. They agreed. 2 years ago the prescription was less than $15. Well the same prescription was over $40, a 250% increase! You think i got screwed? I found the same item on line for $11.99 and with shipping it would be less than $18. I also found home remedies, coconut oil or orgeno oil does work.

Been going to burgess for years now and now that I have a serious emergency with my senior dog(might be dying) they refuse to see him because they are "over booked" lady on the phone basically laughed at me as she said sorry about your luck. Never have I felt so disrespected by them and the fact that they cannot squeeze in a dying patient tells me they really don't care about peoples animals. Hope noone else has to go through this with them.
